MailOnline's insider claims that the Montecito start-up has proved to be a 'logistical nightmare' after the 11th hour name change from American Riviera Orchard and because they have no idea how well her products will sell.

I must have lost my mind... my comprehension... or priorities.

I am truly reeling. Fully, and by all sides of the arguments over a photo. There has not been so much of a bruhaha since the hordes of humanity were storming stores in search of toilet paper. It truly is blowing my mind.

Okay trying this again after once before as a Reblog to another today. But I have a few things to say and then I am going to leave this lay. I have NO idea if this will be long or short. But I am dang well hoping I feel better afterwards.

So there I was this afternoon, early, the phone rings. And it is my daughter-in-law whom has not called me since the second week of November. I see her name on the caller id, take a deep breath, and... she wants to talk about Catherine. What???? How about home, hearth, family, and the state of relationships? But okay. I went with it.

I am going to start this, what I hope is a mini-vent off with what I think of the photo submitted first. There is NO doubt it was a huge blunder. The week proceeding was already a fire storm demanding proof of life, relationship, and just about everything else you could throw into the mess. This was no time to release anything touched up whatsoever, and even for myself who loves and supports this wonderful person... the lack of wearing at the least her wedding band was just not a good look to send out worldwide. I do not care WHEN she wears or does not her dang rings privately. But now was not the time. I do believe she had good intentions and was just being naive. But she has been around the block for over two decades and firmly involved and in the trenches to what amounts to a modern-day War of the Roses.

Someone did not have her back.

Now to my main points, real concerns, and what are the TRUE problems, according to just little me, sitting in my cheap director's chair and calling out the scenes currently playing on the world stage.

People. This is going to pass. This is just the latest in the drama and the saga since Meghan Markle hit the royal family. The real danger from my view is not the photo or Catherine's intentions. The escalation and apparent hysteria of what could be real danger is truthfully what is my focus. When news agencies are checking the place of origin, metadata, timestamps, editing, and making judgements on integrity and the future of the monarchy based on a simple photo for Mother's Day... we have a HUGE issue. It is now far past time for the Wales family to be better secured, the British government to step in and take care of the obvious dangers that are growing exponentially, and priorities addressed as to the future.

I am FAR more concerned about William and his family at this point being safe, secure in where they are living, and the future of each of them an absolute priority. It is time for all involved with their protection and well-being to deal with what is so obviously happening. And I feel for William who most likely has the world, literally, on his shoulders. But it is for him to take the first stand.

This is not about a photo. This is a shot over the bow on the global stage.

Catherine dearest. Just heal please. Take care of you first. I will continue to keep you close in thought. You have given everything in honor, love, and duty for over 20 years. You take the time you need.

Going to publish this bad attempt at writing I suppose. Hope the madness ends soon. And I do not mean about a simple picture meant as a greeting to Mother's around the world...

The Post taste-tests Meghan Markle’s ‘acidic’ As Ever jam, ‘janky’ cookies and ‘bland’ tea

Ever since Meghan “Jam Is My Jam” Markle announced that a berry jam would be one of the first products released under what was then known as her America Riviera Orchard label, the world has eagerly wondered what the groundbreaking pantry goods actually taste like.

Today, The Post can exclusively report that the Duchess of Sussex’s “keepsake” packaged $14 raspberry spread — now branded As Ever, due to trademark issues — has a very familiar flavor.

“It tastes like the same kind of raspberry spread/jam/jelly/preserve that you can buy in any supermarket in the United States,” longtime Post food critic Steve Cuozzo said in an official taste test. “It tastes fine. Raspberry jam always tastes fine. There’s nothing unique about this.”

It’s one of nine As Ever products that the duchess launched last Wednesday.

The line, which also include teas, honey, baking mixes and flower sprinkles, sold out in less than an hour and created havoc for those desperate for a taste of Markle’s Montecito — by way of a gritty stretch of Hollywood that is home to the As Ever LCC offices, by way of parts unknown. (Meghan, your loyal subjects want to know: Will you be hit by tariffs?)

Wherever it comes from, the sweetness level of the “runny” fruit spread — as it must be called, according to FDA guidelines for sugar content — polarized taste testers.

It “has a really high acid profile, making it completely unenjoyable,” griped editor Zachary Kussin.

“I like [that] there’s not a lot of sugar, like with a Smucker’s brand,” said commerce reporter Emma Sutton-Williams.

The As Ever Shortbread Cookie Mix with Flower Sprinkles ($14) also garnered mixed reviews.

“I’ve tried a lot of shortbread cookie mixes out of a box and I’m always disappointed. I’m not disappointed with these,” said Sutton-Williams, declaring the treats an “A+.”

Still, she noted the cookies were time- and labor-intensive — requiring an hour in the fridge and two sticks of butter. (Has anyone checked Prince Harry’s cholesterol levels lately?)

“Did Meghan consult with Paula Deen? Because these are very butter forward,” said Post senior writer Jeanette Settembre, who baked them.

Kussin, for one, declared the cookie “brittle,” “insipid” and void of flavor: “It has the consistency of a hockey puck and the flavor of a hockey puck.”

But Cuozzo had some encouraging words, saying, “Meghan, Duchess, you’re in the ballpark.”

For columnist Kirsten Fleming, there was one big letdown: the now-infamous flower sprinkles that Markle cheerfully employs on her Netflix show “With Love, Meghan,” perhaps to distract from her abysmal knife skills.

As Ever’s $15 jar of edible dried flowers — which looks uncomfortably close to the potpourri you used to see next to bathroom sinks in the ’90s — was sold out within minutes. But hallelujah, a small packet of the flower sprinkles is included in the cookie mix!

Unfortunately, they were dull and too small to lend any legitimate pop of color.

“There was such a big deal made about them that I expected them to be like this pinata coming out of the cookie, and it just looks like a few colorful crumbs,” said a disappointed Fleming.

“Janky,” declared Settembre.

One thing all the taste-testers seemed to agree on was that the herbal peppermint tea ($12) was as bland and beige as the oatmeal-hued Jenni Kayne sweater Markle wears on her show — and promotes on her new ShopMy page (noting in small print that she may get a cut of the proceeds, natch).

It’s “understated, just like the royal family,” a diplomatic Sutton-Williams said of the hot beverage.

Kussin, a self-described “peppermint tea enthusiast,” called it bland and said it “could be a lot more minty.” He prefers the free Harney & Sons peppermint tea available in The Post offices.

“It’s not very strong, the flavor isn’t really there … it’s quite ordinary,” lamented Cuozzo of Markle’s tea. “If all it takes is making a product like this, then I want to be a duchess myself.”

So it tastes like shit…no wonder she sent the first batch to actors and actresses. They had to fake their approval.

History is made: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala chosen as Director-General

WTO members made history today (15 February) when the General Council agreed by consensus to select Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria as the organization’s seventh Director-General.

When she takes office on 1 March, Dr Okonjo-Iweala will become the first woman and the first African to be chosen as Director-General. Her term, renewable, will expire on 31 August 2025.

“This is a very significant moment for the WTO. On behalf of the General Council, I extend our warmest congratulations to Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her appointment as the WTO's next Director-General and formally welcome her to this General Council meeting,” said General Council Chair David Walker of New Zealand who, together with co-facilitators Amb. Dacio Castillo (Honduras) and Amb. Harald Aspelund (Iceland) led the nine-month DG selection process.

“Dr Ngozi, on behalf of all members I wish to sincerely thank you for your graciousness in these exceptional months, and for your patience. We look forward to collaborating closely with you, Dr Ngozi, and I am certain that all members will work with you constructively during your tenure as Director-General to shape the future of this organization,” he added.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala said a key priority for her would be to work with members to quickly address the economic and health consequences brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I am honoured to have been selected by WTO members as WTO Director-General,” said Dr Okonjo-Iweala. “A strong WTO is vital if we are to recover fully and rapidly from the devastation wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic. I look forward to working with members to shape and implement the policy responses we need to get the global economy going again. The General Council agreed on 31 July that there would be three stages of consultations held over a two-month period commencing 7 September. During these confidential consultations, the field of candidates was narrowed from eight to five and then two. On 28 October, General Council Chair David Walker of New Zealand had informed members that based on consultations with all delegations Dr Okonjo-Iweala was best poised to attain consensus of the 164 WTO members and that she had the deepest and the broadest support among the membership. At that meeting, the United States was the only WTO member which said it could not join the consensus.

The consultation process undertaken by the chair and facilitators was established through guidelines agreed by all WTO members in a 2002 General Council decision. These guidelines spelled out the key criteria in determining the candidate best positioned to gain consensus is the “breadth of support” each candidate receives from the members. During the DG selection processes of 2005 and 2013, breadth of support was defined as “the distribution of preferences across geographic regions and among the categories of members generally recognized in WTO provisions: that is (Least developed countries), developing countries and developed countries”. This same process, agreed by all members in the General Council in 2020, was strictly followed by Chair Walker and his colleagues throughout the 2020-21 DG selection process.

The process for selecting a new Director-General was triggered on 14 May when former Director-General Mr Roberto Azevêdo informed WTO members he would be stepping down from his post one year before the expiry of his mandate. He subsequently left office on 31 August.

Soho House started its life in London in 1995 as a private members club for the artsy elite. Eight years later, it brought its exclusive formula of gathering designers, musicians and writers in perfectly worn velvet club chairs to New York. Then after a 2021 public offering, it opened up in 11 other cities around the world.   Today, as two billionaires wage war over the club’s future, it is learning an unusual lesson: It’s very hard to be a public private club. ThirdPoint hedge fund founder Dan Loeb, one of the fiercest activist investors on Wall Street, has a 10% stake and is pushing for new leadership and a high takeover bid. Its top shareholder, supermarket magnate Ron Burkle, is connected to a $1.7 billion buyout offer to go private. A short-seller firm criticized the club’s practice of doling out food and drink tokens and alleged some accounting issues. The challenge for Soho House is that its focus on growth, to some members, feels like it comes at the cost of its exclusivity. Several members of its older clubs have said the quality of service has declined and that it appears to have gotten too easy to get in. At its flagship U.S. location in Manhattan’s meatpacking district, where “Sex and the City’’s Carrie Bradshaw was once turned away from the sexy rooftop pool, families with small children now make up the brunch crowd downstairs.  Soho House has over 200,000 members—its ranks climbed by more than 70% in the four years since it went public, and there are another 111,000 on a wait list. It has grown to 45 club locations from 26 in 2019, opening in cities ranging from Portland, Ore., to Bangkok and Stockholm.  Soho House says it has never lost its exclusive vibe. It points out that its membership growth came mostly from opening new clubs in new cities, not from adding members to older ones. Its members have mostly stayed members: The club’s retention rate was 91.5% in 2023.  It remains a go-to place for buzzy events.
