Timeline: Bullying Allegations, Rumors, Investigations, and Leaks

Unless cited, all links from the Daily Mail. Apologies, but all links are "active" webpages. There's just too many. I specifically chose the DM because they always TL;DR their articles, which I'm including here so y'all don't have to go click these links.

This is going to be a little bit of a differently-formatted timeline.

These items in bold red are critical rota stories that sort of blew things open, if you will. These ones will have excerpts.

These items in bold purple are Tumblr gossip.

Let's jump in! One quick disclaimer first: This isn't an exhaustive list. this is only what I've been able to dig up today.

10/28/2018: The real Charles revealed: William’s wild mood swings, Harry’s pre-wedding meltdown and how the Prince of Wales finally earned his boys’ respect, as revealed by his biographer ROBERT JOBSON

The weeks leading up to the wedding had been far more tense for both Harry and Meghan than most people realised. In fact, they’d both felt so stressed that they’d booked a series of appointments with Ross Barr, known as ‘the acupuncturist to the stars’. Whether these treatments had much impact on Harry is debatable. In the build-up to the wedding, says an inside source, he was ‘petulant and short-tempered’ with members of staff. Raising his voice on occasion, Harry would insist: ‘What Meghan wants, she gets.’

11/9/2018: MAJ RAPPED MEG The Queen warned Prince Harry over Meghan Markle’s ‘difficult’ behavior after row over bride’s tiara for royal wedding by Dan Wootton of The Sun

11/10/2018: CDAN Blind. This came out a couple of weeks after tumblr (the old TCD blog) got a massive dose of Aussie tea. Scroll down to August 2019 for those stories.

Apparently the diva behavior on a recent trip was nothing compared to the verbally abusive thrashing the employee took on that trip when things were not perfect. The employee threatened to sue because of how bad the abuse was which would have become public. The employee instead was given a check and an apology by the in-laws of the former actress turned abuser.

11/15/2018: Duke and Duchess of Cambridge join youngsters on The One Show sofa to speak about new anti-bullying app (with Kate in another recycled dress by Emilia Wickstead). This event was the day after Charles’s 70th birthday bash at BP, to which Meghan wore the blood earrings again and the gossip leaked that the Sussexes left early.

11/15/2018: Prince William accuses Facebook of putting ‘profits before values’ as he slams social media giants for being ‘on the back foot’ in fight against fake news, privacy and cyber bullying

11/17/2018: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle change plans to move into Kensington Palace apartment as resident Royal ‘doesn’t want to leave’ by The Sun. This was the first time that rumors of a rift between the Cambridges and the Sussexes over behavior/attitude were published by the printed press.

Kensington Palace isn’t short of luxury accommodation, with Prince William and Kate Middleton living in a lavish 20-room apartment in the grounds. And it is also the residence of The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke and Duchess of Kent and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. The Queen’s cousin, The Duke of Gloucester, 74, and his wife Birgitte, 72, live next door to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in their grand 21-room apartment. Prince Harry is said to have been eyeing up the property as the perfect place to raise a family. But a source claims Danish-born Brigitte is refusing to move. The Mail quoted a friend of Duchess of Gloucester saying: “Birgitte doesn’t want to leave. “And why should she? She and her husband are still full-time working members of The Firm and they were given their apartment by Her Majesty.”

Many blogs read the bolded section above as Harry and Meghan were pushing the Gloucesters hard to move out of KP #1. Not necessarily bullying them, but...not being nice about it either.

11/26/2018: Is Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s rift causing tension between Harry and William and behind Windsor move?

11/28/2018: Meghan Markle ‘left Kate Middleton in tears’ over her strict demands for Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid’s dress by Jack Royston, The Sun.

This is one of the earliest "admissions" that Meghan sends the staff emails out of business hours.

Rumours of a rift between the duchesses swirled after royal sources revealed emotional Kate, 36, ended up weeping. An insider claimed the incident followed a “stressful” dress fitting — just weeks before Meghan, 37, married Prince Harry. Royal aides did not deny the incident had taken place, amid claims that the duchesses are “very ­different people”. Princess Charlotte, three, had been trying on her outfit just weeks before Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry. Meghan, 37, is understood to have insisted on “the very best” for her big day — but the fitting did not go according to her demands. Royal sources said the pressure of the “stressful” fitting became too much for her now sister-in-law, and that Duchess of Cambridge Kate was left shaken and in tears. An insider told the Daily Telegraph: “Kate had only just given birth to her third child, Prince Louis, and was feeling quite ­emotional.” The reported incident sparked rumours of a rift between Kate and the Duchess of Sussex. The duchesses are understood to have put the incident behind them.

Concerns have surfaced that American actress Meghan has at times struggled to fit into royal circles. Sources claimed she regularly “bombarded” staff with early morning calls and emails.

12/11/2018: How royal staff are calling Meghan Duchess Difficult as 2nd aide exits by The Daily Express. This is the first recording of "Duchess Difficult" in the printed press and the first hints that Harry may have confronted William about Meghan's red carpet welcome into the BRF.

The Duchess let slip recently that she's not sleeping well and has resorted to 4.30am yoga sessions to help her relax. However, her early starts, also said to involve firing off emails, aren't to everyone's taste and Meghan will soon have to find an aide more in tune with her lifestyle.

Kate was reported to have become upset by the manner in which Meghan speaks to staff and although this has been denied by Kensington Palace it has not stopped the chatter that all is not harmonious.

According to one insider, Harry, who is notoriously protective when it comes to his new wife and is desperate for her to enjoy her official duties, is said to be unimpressed with the welcome William has given Meghan. He feels his older brother could have done more, including ensuring that Kate took the American under her wing. Harry, 34, is said to be mindful of how isolated and miserable his mother, Diana, became. In a TV appearance in February, involving the so-called Fab Four of William, Harry, Kate and Meghan, there was an awkward moment when the group was asked about whether they had disagreements. “Oh yes," said William, while Harry tried to make light of the issue by joking that they came "thick and fast". But the insider says: "Harry won't take any criticism of Meghan and he is so sensitive that he often sees criticism or negativity when there isn't any."

2/7/2019: ‘Harry will be the BEST dad!’ Meghan praises her husband - amid claims she is suffering ‘emotional trauma’ over feud with her own father - as royal couple dazzle at the Endeavour Fund Awards in London. (This is Meghan's cater waiter outfit.)

4/12/2019: The Meghan Markle ‘Duchess Difficult’ Rumors Just Won’t Stop - and This One is Bizarre by Glamour Magazine. I'm including this one because it cites a few Sun articles that are no longer accessible.

According to The Sun, staff members at Frogmore Cottage, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's new home, have been "banned" from using the parking lot closest to the residence and instead must use the one a mile away. The sources who spoke to The Sun seem to confirm a change in parking permits is happening, but here's the kicker: It was reportedly the superintendent of the castle's decision, not Markle's. And yet all the tabloids reporting this story are making it seem as though Markle woke up and randomly decreed, "You know what would be fun? Forcing all the staff members to walk a mile to work each day." The headline in one article starts with "Not in Meg Back Yard," which is apparently the acronym insiders are using to describe this change. That makes it sound like Markle is the one behind the choice.

3/2/2021: Buckingham Palace insists it DIDN’T smear Meghan after she accused aides of a ‘calculated campaign’ against her - after ex-staff claim she ‘bullied two PAs’ and ‘drove them out’ of Kensington Palace, four days before explosive Oprah interview will be aired

The Times reported a spokesman for the Sussexes vehemently denying the claims, saying they were 'the victims of a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation'

A bullying complaint was lodged against the Duchess of Sussex by a senior member of Kensington Palace staff before she and Prince Harry quit as working royals

The Times reported it was made in October 2018 by Jason Knauf, who worked as communications secretary to Harry and Meghan

He is said to have claimed the duchess 'drove two personal assistants out of the household and was undermining the confidence of a third staff member' 

Sensationally, the couple's lawyers told the newspaper it was 'being used by Buckingham Palace to peddle a wholly false narrative' before this weekend's interview with Oprah Winfrey 

3/2/2021: Meghan Markle ‘Saddened’ by ‘Attack on Her Character’ amid Bullying Allegations from Palace Staffers by People Magazine

"The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma," a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. Some even believe they may have form of post-traumatic stress from experience 

But I have personally witnessed more than one member of staff driven to tears by the treatment they were subjected to by the duke and duchess before the couple acrimoniously quit as working royals. One person sobbed down the phone to me after a particularly harrowing day. They clearly felt emotionally broken and could no longer cope with the pressure they were being subjected to. Others have indicated to me they were being asked to behave in a manner they did not feel professionally comfortable with, particularly in their dealings with the media. Several aides have also told me that Meghan in particular was very good at 'drawing' staff into her confidence, flattering them as if they were the only person in the world she could trust and asking them to help her with various duties.

Toxic, hostile, distrustful, poisonous: all words I have heard regularly used over the past few years to describe people's experiences working in the Sussexes' household.

But I have since been told that this popular aide was deeply unhappy about her experience working for the duchess and had been 'desperate' to get out as long as she could professionally put a brave face on it. Likewise a third member of staff. Mr Knauf makes clear in his email, as reported by The Times, that he was also concerned about the couple's hugely experienced deputy private secretary, Samantha Cohen. She had worked for the Queen for more than 20 years and was personally persuaded by the monarch to stay on and help the couple navigate their first few years of royal life. He indicated that she was experiencing extreme stress and said: 'I questioned if the Household policy on bullying and harassment applies to principals [the term used to refer to a member of the royal family].' One source tells me wryly, with an eye to Meghan's much-hyped championing of female empowerment: 'Note that everyone concerned was a woman.' Another adds: 'Sam always made clear that it was like working for a couple of teenagers. They were impossible and pushed her to the limit. She was miserable.'

The Times also makes reference to an incident during the couple's tour to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga in 2018, which was a particularly difficult one for all concerned, Meghan included. She was, of course, pregnant at the time. The newspaper reports how Meghan cut short a visit to a market in Fiji because she was concerned about the presence of a UN organisation promoting women, with which she had worked before and made clear she no longer wished to have anything to do with. At the time officials had suggested that it was because it was humid and the crowd was oppressive in the market. I was there at the time and witnessed Meghan turn and 'hiss' at a member of her entourage, clearly incandescent with rage about something, and demand to leave. I later saw that same – female – highly distressed member of staff sitting in an official car, with tears running down her face. Our eyes met and she lowered hers, humiliation etched on her features. At the time I was unable to document anything as I couldn't conclusively link the two incidents together, despite my suspicions. I have subsequently found out from other sources that my instincts were right.

This is a trend, we start with oracle of energies. We start with deception, falsehood from 2025… She is working on new projects. She is less in conflict with her emotions and thoughts. She is looking for partnerships and new openings. She is observing if she can have someone else in her life. Currently, things are not as pretty at home.

Akashic tarot: the energy is so heavy!!! ok there is movement in the air, she is coming towards her ascension (being at the top of a mountain) The environment is quite chaotic around her. I must have lost my mind... my comprehension... or priorities.

I am truly reeling. Fully, and by all sides of the arguments over a photo. There has not been so much of a bruhaha since the hordes of humanity were storming stores in search of toilet paper. It truly is blowing my mind.

Okay trying this again after once before as a Reblog to another today. But I have a few things to say and then I am going to leave this lay. I have NO idea if this will be long or short. But I am dang well hoping I feel better afterwards.

So there I was this afternoon, early, the phone rings. And it is my daughter-in-law whom has not called me since the second week of November. I see her name on the caller id, take a deep breath, and... she wants to talk about Catherine. What???? How about home, hearth, family, and the state of relationships? But okay. I went with it.

I am going to start this, what I hope is a mini-vent off with what I think of the photo submitted first. There is NO doubt it was a huge blunder. The week proceeding was already a fire storm demanding proof of life, relationship, and just about everything else you could throw into the mess. This was no time to release anything touched up whatsoever, and even for myself who loves and supports this wonderful person... the lack of wearing at the least her wedding band was just not a good look to send out worldwide. I do not care WHEN she wears or does not her dang rings privately. But now was not the time. I do believe she had good intentions and was just being naive. But she has been around the block for over two decades and firmly involved and in the trenches to what amounts to a modern-day War of the Roses.

Someone did not have her back.

Now to my main points, real concerns, and what are the TRUE problems, according to just little me, sitting in my cheap director's chair and calling out the scenes currently playing on the world stage.

People. This is going to pass. This is just the latest in the drama and the saga since Meghan Markle hit the royal family. The real danger from my view is not the photo or Catherine's intentions. The escalation and apparent hysteria of what could be real danger is truthfully what is my focus. When news agencies are checking the place of origin, metadata, timestamps, editing, and making judgements on integrity and the future of the monarchy based on a simple photo for Mother's Day... we have a HUGE issue. It is now far past time for the Wales family to be better secured, the British government to step in and take care of the obvious dangers that are growing exponentially, and priorities addressed as to the future.

I am FAR more concerned about William and his family at this point being safe, secure in where they are living, and the future of each of them an absolute priority. It is time for all involved with their protection and well-being to deal with what is so obviously happening. And I feel for William who most likely has the world, literally, on his shoulders. But it is for him to take the first stand.

This is not about a photo. This is a shot over the bow on the global stage.

Catherine dearest. Just heal please. Take care of you first. I will continue to keep you close in thought. You have given everything in honor, love, and duty for over 20 years. You take the time you need.

Going to publish this bad attempt at writing I suppose. Hope the madness ends soon. And I do not mean about a simple picture meant as a greeting to Mother's around the world...

Markle's Folly Today, I watched a movie based on the show Downton Abbey. For those who don't know, it's a British series set at a beautiful English manor in the early 20th century which depicts the lives of the aristocrats who live there and their domestic staff. The movie I saw takes place in 1927, and the plot revolves around a visit to the estate by King George V and his wife, Queen Mary. King George was Queen Elizabeth's grandfather, and the movie (although fictitious) takes place when Elizabeth would have been a baby. As I watched this sumptuous show (which won more Emmys than any other international program ever), all I could think about was how profoundly stupid and shallow MM is. Of course, the show's story happened a century ago, and some of the customs and formality have fallen out of fashion. Just the same, the excitement and respect that the citizens had for their King and Queen, and the dedication and loyalty they exhibited is similar to what people still feel. I remember seeing the Queen years ago at the Highland Games at Braemar. Her carriage made a loop around the field, and to see her sweet smile and royal wave was absolutely thrilling. Anyway, every time I think about how Meghan, that loathsome, festering pustule of a human being, had a one-in-eight-billion chance to meet HLMTQ, chat with her, live amongst the priceless treasures of those amazing properties, participate in one of the world's most historically rich environments, to listen and learn from a gracious and wise woman who'd met the most prominent leaders of the 20th and 21st century......I literally feel nauseated. I don't think there is anyone else in history who has squandered more privilege and opportunity. Harry forfeited it, but at least he knew what he was losing. But I don't think for even one nanosecond could Meghan stop feeding that insatiable ego of hers. She was so intoxicated with her own sense of importance and value (I am talking lunatic level here) that she was incapable of appreciating the potential treasure she was gifted. I don't know of any human who has fallen as far as Meghan Markle has for such petty reasons. I am also convinced that she is the worst kind of coward: when faced with the relatively minor task of adjusting to a new lifestyle, she fled (with her insipid dolt of a husband), and she tried her best to punish everyone else for her own weakness and failures. Celta, I'm amazed at how in tune you are with your intuition with the universe. There's definitely blood in the media waters regarding M, who already sent out a puff piece to Marie Claire magazine today entitled "Why Can’t We Stop Talking About Meghan Markle’s Emails?" by Kristin Contino. Now that M allegedly threatened Hollywood Reporter (who is standing firm) with legal action and failed, M is trying the "move on, people there's nothing to see here" tactic and it's not working. M is panicking.

She definitely doesn't want that Hollywood Reporter article to gain any traction, but all she is doing with her denials is to draw more attention to it. From FOUR MONTHS AGO:

So here's what I got along the lines of Meghan's new PR. As we know, she no longer has Sunshine Sachs. Meghan and Harry have left SS a couple of times and come back, but I heard that this time SS broke up with THEM, making it unlikely that they reunite again. Never say never, especially when it comes to Meghan Markle, but I think they are truly done now. Sunshine Sachs allegedly ditched them for a couple of reasons more than because Meghan put off paying a $2 million PR bill for 6+ months. Once she paid, they were dropped because A) they know she'll end up unable to pay bills again-- it's just a matter of time,  B) she apparently (unsurprisingly) wouldn't listen to advice, C, she insisted on being oversaturated in the media resulting in enough puff pieces to build the giant Stay-Puff marshmellow man of Ghostbusters fame, C) apparently when they tried to limit the amount of bilge being pushed out about her, she went behind their backs and did it herself, D) as a result of B and C, she got dropped because she herself was bad PR for Sunshine Sachs. She made them look incompetent. And finally E) she is rumored to be a controlling nightmare to work with. So that's done.

The thing is, I have been asking around, and I cannot find out who is handling Harry and Meghan's PR now. This makes me think Meghan is doing it. Usually SS will push out positive stuff of no consequence like Meghan's beauty routine, or what she wore to something, or how she makes time for Merchie and Lilibucks while still being a working mom, that kind of shit.

The shit we're hearing now doesn't have the ring of an insurgence of positive puff pieces designed to neutralize her in the people's minds.  Instead the article inundation right now seems to be about how Meghan and Harry and the kids were so hard done by during the funeral. My gut feeling is that if an article is glorifying Meghan by throwing shade at the RF, Meghan is the source of the article. Meghan is the one who routinely villifies the family. So my feeling is that Meghan is handling all her PR right now and she's rallied every asskisser in her arsenal to push out articles claiming she and Harry were treated poorly, etc. If I can find out that she's using a new PR company, I'll be sure to share, but for now, I think it's mostly her.

Oh!  That was the other thing that was pretty interesting that I learned today. Basically all Harry knows about the PR they are using is that he doesn't like them and wants new representation. I'm told Harry has often complained about their ineffective PR and how he can't understand why they have so much media presence and why so much of it is negative. This is why they've gone back and forth between PR from Sunshine Sachs and crisis reversal PR agencies but the problem remains, to Harry's consternation. Meghan just tells him this is how popular they are and how racist/misogynistic the media is and there is nothing to be done . And the funny thing is that Harry doesn't know that the reason why their PR is so ubiquitous/negative is because she is always pushing stuff out behind their PR's back through Omid Scobie and one or two other magazine contacts she has on her own. As we know, she's incapable of making a good impression with her press releases and bad press multiplies like hydras heads. One outlet comments off another, comments on another, comments on another....

And so Harry is just always scratching his head over why they never seem to have gold PR. He knows it exists because he had the best of the best when he got remade as hero Harry, but Meghan tells him he doesn't understand anything and on the PR nightmare goes, with Harry still wondering where they went wrong.

WTO members made history today (15 February) when the General Council agreed by consensus to select Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria as the organization’s seventh Director-General.

When she takes office on 1 March, Dr Okonjo-Iweala will become the first woman and the first African to be chosen as Director-General. Her term, renewable, will expire on 31 August 2025.

“This is a very significant moment for the WTO. On behalf of the General Council, I extend our warmest congratulations to Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her appointment as the WTO's next Director-General and formally welcome her to this General Council meeting,” said General Council Chair David Walker of New Zealand who, together with co-facilitators Amb. Dacio Castillo (Honduras) and Amb. Harald Aspelund (Iceland) led the nine-month DG selection process.

“Dr Ngozi, on behalf of all members I wish to sincerely thank you for your graciousness in these exceptional months, and for your patience. We look forward to collaborating closely with you, Dr Ngozi, and I am certain that all members will work with you constructively during your tenure as Director-General to shape the future of this organization,” he added.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala said a key priority for her would be to work with members to quickly address the economic and health consequences brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I am honoured to have been selected by WTO members as WTO Director-General,” said Dr Okonjo-Iweala. “A strong WTO is vital if we are to recover fully and rapidly from the devastation wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The General Council agreed on 31 July that there would be three stages of consultations held over a two-month period commencing 7 September. During these confidential consultations, the field of candidates was narrowed from eight to five and then two. On 28 October, General Council Chair David Walker of New Zealand had informed members that based on consultations with all delegations Dr Okonjo-Iweala was best poised to attain consensus of the 164 WTO members and that she had the deepest and the broadest support among the membership. At that meeting, the United States was the only WTO member which said it could not join the consensus.

The consultation process undertaken by the chair and facilitators was established through guidelines agreed by all WTO members in a 2002 General Council decision. These guidelines spelled out the key criteria in determining the candidate best positioned to gain consensus is the “breadth of support” each candidate receives from the members. During the DG selection processes of 2005 and 2013, breadth of support was defined as “the distribution of preferences across geographic regions and among the categories of members generally recognized in WTO provisions: that is (Least developed countries), developing countries and developed countries”. This same process, agreed by all members in the General Council in 2020, was strictly followed by Chair Walker and his colleagues throughout the 2020-21 DG selection process.

The process for selecting a new Director-General was triggered on 14 May when former Director-General Mr Roberto Azevêdo informed WTO members he would be stepping down from his post one year before the expiry of his mandate. He subsequently left office on 31 August.

There’s A New Meghan Markle Smear Campaign On The Rise

The latest bombshell news items about her have all the marks of a targeted hate campaign.

They say bad things comes in threes, but for Meghan Markle that feels less of a superstitious happening and more of a targeted attack. This morning, following the news that she and Prince Harry had parted ways with Spotify, it was reported that Meghan’s heavily rumoured deal with Dior is not happening – and at the same time, she’s being torn apart for apparently ‘faking’ interviews on her Archetypes podcast.

Cue the endless tirade of sensational headlines. ‘Meghan Markle “is not signing big money Dior fashion deal” despite Spotify axe,’ one today reads. Why Spotify's big bet on Meghan fell flat,’ another states. ‘”Grifter” Meghan may have faked her podcast interviews,’ a third claims.

Reading them – and the many similar – you’d be forgiven for thinking that Meghan is in the midst of a full-on career meltdown. The stories about Spotify report rumours that she and Harry were sacked for not producing enough content, the headlines about Dior infer the luxury French fashion house have fobbed Meghan off much to her dismay and those ‘faking Archetypes interview claims’ further perpetuate the ‘fraud’ narrative birthed by tabloids way back when the smear campaign against her first began.

So, allow us to clear a few things up. First, Dior. Contrary to the headlines implying there was some kind of snub, both the Sussexes and Dior have come out to say there was never any truth to the rumours of a sponsorship deal between them. A source at Dior told The Telegraph that their team are ‘nonplussed as to how the story came about’ while a spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle confirmed that the rumours are simply not true.

They were always speculation in the first place then, and yet somehow by merely confirming the speculation was misplaced, Meghan is at the centre of unnecessary headlines inferring she’s been rebuffed by a brand she’s known to adore.

Next, Archetypes. The award-winning podcast that once unseated Joe Rogan’s – Spotify’s consistently most listened to podcast – top spot would, as per very normal podcasting production, have a large team that contributes to bringing content together. That’s what producers are for, they ‘PRODUCE’ content. And yet, when you break down the headlines saying Meghan ‘faked’ interviews with guests, you’ll see that they’re simply referring to the fact producers on the show sometimes conducted interviews with guests and Meghan would dub her voice over questions afterwards.

Anyone involved in podcast production might tell you, it’s not out of the norm for producers to help interview people. It’s also not out of the norm for voiceovers to be dubbed in, corrected, or re-recorded after an interview – as is the same for TV production. It might not be typical for the content to them be put out as if it's a conversation, but with someone as high profile and busy as Meghan Markle we can surely make allowances for the occasional dubbed voiceover. It certainly doesn’t warrant a barrage of headlines called her a ‘fake’, nor is it even new information - journalist Alison Yarrow revealed last year that her interview on the show was conducted by producer Farrah Safarfi. So why has it come up now, and why is it being spun in such a foul way?

Finally, the Spotify deal. This is certainly more complex. While initially releasing a joint statement that the Sussexes and Spotify had ‘mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series [they] made together’, Spotify’s head of podcast innovation and monetisation, Bill Simmon’s, went on to refer to Harry and Meghan as ‘fucking grifters’ – fuelling speculation that the couple did not meet Spotify’s productivity benchmark for the £18milllion deal.

Simmon’s pointed to Harry in particular, saying on his podcast, the Bill Simmons podcast, ‘I have got to get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It’s one of my best stories.’

One should note that he had also previously expressed resentment at having to work with Harry at all. In a January 2022 episode of his podcast, he said: ‘You live in fucking Montecito, and you just sell documentaries and podcasts, and nobody cares what you have to say about anything unless you talk about the royal family, and you just complain about them.’

Not exactly their biggest fan anyway then, but what stands out most to me is Simmon’s issue with Harry in particular, and yet Meghan is bearing the brunt of the negative headlines about the deal falling through.

How is it fair that Meghan is being criticised when she created one of Spotify's most-listened to podcasts?

The woman whose podcast won awards, acquired legendary guests like Mariah Carey and Serena Williams, and debuted to an estimated 11million plus listeners (while listening figures aren’t released, Joe Rogan’s podcast is estimated to be heard by an average of 11million Spotify users per episode, and Archetypes threw him off the top podcast spot on Spotify just two days after the first episode dropped).

It seems unfair that Meghan’s work is being criticised, when the Duchess created one of the most listened to podcasts across the entire streaming platform. Few stories also mention the many other reasons the Sussexes could’ve parted ways with Spotify, including the suggestion by some experts that Harry and Meghan are following in Barack and Michelle Obama’s footsteps – who ended their contract with Spotify last year allegedly due to the exclusivity element of the contract (they didn’t want their podcast to only be available on Spotify).

The Obamas certainly didn’t face the same level of scrutiny when they parted ways with Spotify. Rather, headlines implied the complete opposite power dynamic, that the Obamas were the ones doing the ‘ditching’ as opposed to the other way round.

Why is it then that whenever the Sussexes make a business move, or announce new work, the headlines are always skewed in such a negative light? And more importantly, why is it always implied that Meghan is somehow to blame, or the one who has been snubbed? The most recent batch of three stories have all the marks of yet another smear campaign towards the mother-of-two.

From court cases with tabloids to Netflix documentaries about their decision to step back as senior royals and flee Britain, it is worth noting that the couple have gone to great length to demonstrate the emotional impact of this kind of relentless negativity, and the endless attempts to make Meghan seem manipulative or fraudulent.

We know it fuels abuse towards the couple, we know if makes Harry fearful for his family, and we know it has had a near-deadly impact on Meghan’s mental health. How can one contribute to such discourse with their conscience intact at this point?

Celta, M let it slip at the very end of her latest hilarious PR article today in The Mirror ("Meghan Markle has a 'new trick' to win over Prince Harry's family after years of feuding") that H&M want to reconcile with the Royal Family and "cut losses, repair rifts, and ensure those titles don't go anywhere." 😂 H&M also want to use Fergie as an "ally" for any peace talks H&M have with Charles and for Fergie to "stand up for [M] against the likes of Camilla and Kate." That is a damning slip, as it shows that what Meghan is worried about is Harry losing his titles (because then she automatically loses hers). She definitely told on herself there.

I would think that Fergie's recent health issues (breast cancer) and the rumoured breakdown of her daughter Eugenie's marriage are quite enough for her to cope with, without being pulled into the never ending drama of the Harkles and their sense of entitlement.

Additionally, if that is an example of Meghan's strategic thinking, then I am crying with laughter. As if Fergie's opinion has any weight in the royal family compared to The Queen and The Princess of Wales. Sure, Meghan, send Fergie in to bat for you and we'll see how that goes. I’m in the UK. 24 hours later, how is the US media covering the revelations in Spare ?

Well, there's this, for one.

Most of the US shows have reported on The Guardian "leak," which I think says a lot about that leak. Someone was sending out press releases from her Hotmail account. The leak, of course, focused on the fight.

The one that has been going around was CNN's Don Lemon calling the memoir "gauche." Meghan's bots were criticizing the segment on Twitter so I guess that made a mark.

CBS covered it pretty neutrally. They called it "disappointing" and promote the Anderson Cooper interview. It's basically promo for them because they own 60 minutes.

CBS Morning was also 60 minutes promo with anchors questioning the motivation. I guess the interview will address that. Roya Nikkah talks about his long-standing resentments and the likelihood of a reconciliation summit. She expects a "recollections may vary" type of reaction.

Good Morning America also based their coverage on the Guardian leak (surprise!). This one is basically promo for the Stranahan interview. It has the "archnemesis" segment of the interview.

NBC actually got their hands on a Spanish copy, which is interesting. They don't mention the Guardian leak, which leads me to believe that they weren't part of the Sussex PR drive. They mention the Nazi uniform, losing his virginity, and drug use, which the other outlets did not.

NBC Today did mention the Guardian leak. NBC didn't have the book in time for the morning show yesterday. The correspondent says this is a nightmare for King Charles.

Fox News was very negative. They covered most of the content, not just the fight. They note that ITV, where Harry is doing his interview, is part of the royal rota that he supposedly hates.

Megyn Kelly covered it for her Sirius XM show. She had Tom Bowers on and was very negative.

I think the most noticeable aspect of the US coverage is how much it follows what we presume was the Sussex pr strategy--focusing on the Guardian leak and the upcoming interviews. It really illustrates how easy it is to guide the US coverage. All you have to do is give some exclusives.

The more cringe details that were published in the UK and overseas, were featured in smaller outlets like The Cut and Slate. The Cut is the only outlet, so far, to mention the "baby brain" comment.

Slate focused on the comments about Will.

Reuters, a news service, also did a list of revelations. Interesting that not many outlets have picked up on this and used the info.

Associated Press, the other big news service, focused on the fight.

Edit: I should have mentioned that Page Six, from the NYPost has been relentlessly publishing every single little snippet. There's just too many to count. They've covered EVERYTHING.

And People Magazine has also covered most of the drama, including the "baby brain" comment. They've skipped most of the genitalia stories because they're classy like that.
