In the novel it said that Shen injured his talons amidst the flame, we even have a storyboard showing that.

So that means Shen came back home to his parents with an injured talon. He came back home with pride and a smile (albeit an insane one, he has lost his mind), presumably hiding his injury. Of course his parents have received the news before hand, I like to think that Shen didn't immediately said "I KILLED A WHOLE PANDA VILLAGE" he might just hinted it by saying "I have successfully changed my fate!" A fight definitely brew between them (a messy one, can't wait to touch on that subject) which led to Shen's banishment. My point is, or I guess my headcanon, is that Lord Shen's parent remains oblivious to their child's injury, a good mirroring of how despite their love for Shen, they remain neglectful. While Shen swore for vengeance and left Gongmen City, he walked by himself, bearing the pain.
