“I tend to not be drawn to things [roles] that are familiar. I like to travel, in more ways than one, get a little further from what might feel like home. And sexuality is something you can find your way in, even if it seems utterly foreign at first. If you just try it on, as much as you’re loath to admit it, it might fit. To find something that seems garish and pink - to put it on, and find that it fits, that’s sort of thrilling. Though red might be a better color than pink.”

In fact, the winter premiere, "Ruin," is The Blacklist's most unique episode to date, changing up the series' typical formula in a big way. Gone is the Blacklister of the week, and in is — well, we can't spoil you other than to say things are intense. To get more info on the game-changing episode, TV Guide spoke to Megan Boone about how Liz has changed since Tom's death, how the tone of "Ruin" sets the stage for the rest of the series and whether Liz is picking up on her dad's criminal habits.

The Blacklist DVD Special Features
Right, I have NO idea why I decided to do this because it took soooooooooooooo damn long but I uploaded all the special features on the dvds onto a shared google drive because the dvds are expensive, so if anyone wants to watch them, HERE! Features include episode commentaries, gag reels, deleted scenes that didn't make it and cast & crew interviews :)
(side note, while doing this I did NOT realise my software recorded background audio. It didn't happen very often but if there is random audible shouting or crunching of food, I apologise XD)

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The suspect in a string of slayings that terrified this city's Muslim community faced a judge for the first time on Wednesday and was ordered held until an upcoming detention hearing.
Muhammad Syed, 51, made a court appearance via Zoom and was told he's being charged with the murders of 41-year-old Aftab Hussein, killed on July 26, and 27-year-old Muhammad Afzaal Hussain, slain on Aug. 1.
"The state believes at this time there are no conditions that would keep the community safe with Mr. Syed's release," Bernalillo County Assistant District Attorney Joshua Boone told the court.
A detention hearing in Syed's case was set for Monday, a court spokeswoman said.
Syed heard proceedings through a Pashto interpreter and initially asked to address the court. But he eventually accepted the advice of defense lawyer Megan Mitsunaga and Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court Judge Renee Torres to remain silent.
"OK, sounds good," Syed said. "Yes, your honor whatever you guys think is the right thing sounds good."
Police said he's also being investigated for possible connections to the recent murders of two other Muslim men in the community.
Hussein was fatally shot near 417 Rhode Island St. NE by a gunman who had "waited behind a bush," according to a criminal complaint. The victim had "excited his vehicle" when "the suspect shot Aftab through the bush multiple times," the court document stated.
Muhammad Afzaal Hussain was gunned down while he strolled on the sidewalk in front of 420 and 422 Cornell Dr. SE, in what one 911 caller described as a "drive-by" shooting, according to the complaint.
Police recovered 9 mm casings from Cornell Drive SE and those matched a "9mm casing located between the windshield and hood area of" Syed's car, police said in the criminal complaint.
Albuquerque police and FBI agents "received multiple tips in reference to one male, Muhammad Atif Syed," the court document read.
"The tipsters who called in stated that Muhammad was the shooter in the homicides of Muslim men in Albuquerque," the complaint continued. "The tips also provided a vehicle, a gray Volkswagen sedan, as the vehicle driven by Muhammad."
After he was taken into custody by police, Syed told investigators he was headed to Houston "to find a new place for his family to live because the situation in Albuquerque was bad," the complaint read.
"Muhammad denied having any involvement in the murders this this case," according to the court document.
In an interview with NBC News on Wednesday, Muhammad Imtiaz Hussain, the brother of victim Muhammad Afzaal Hussain, said he didn't immediately recognize the suspect's name.
But when he saw Syed's photo, the brother realized he had seen him at the local Islamic Center sometime in April.
Muhammad Imtiaz Hussain recalled that they chatted briefly during an Eid al-Fitr gathering and at a Ramadan celebration. He recalled Syed struggled with English and said the suspect didn't immediately strike him as a “hostile person.”
Syed seemed like a “family man,” the victim's brother said, because he appeared to have a few children around him.

I don’t remember which interview it was (and if someone finds it, please let me know) that the statement was made that when Liz learned who Red was, that was the end. I believe Bokenkamp said it. She’s learning. This is the end.
So what is the point of S9?
This is not a straight procedural. While I’m sure some of the audience is here for the blacklisters every week, this is a character-driven, mythology-based show with the overarching question of why Red came into Liz’s life. That is the show. I can’t help but think back to the time Jon was talking about pitching the Blacklist to Sony/NBC and that he started to tell them the ending and they told him that he needed to show that he could make it run as long as they renewed it, and here we are. The show is over, but it’s still going.
I will always hope that this show will surprise me. It has a fantastically talented team of writers, actors, and staff all around, but I feel numb at this news. I want to say I’m disappointed, but at some point it goes beyond that. I’ve had faith for so long that they’d find a path to make the way they’ve stretched this out worth it, but I don't see how without her. Liz and Agnes were my last thread of hope. After everything, I still want them to surprise me. I would love if they find a way that I can’t even conceive of, but I don't see how. This is a story about Red and Liz, and when there is no Liz, what story are we watching?

(Part 1) Hi!! ❤️ I would love to pick your brain on this, it’s no secret that a popular idea for how the Lizzie character went wrong was either poor acting on behalf of Megan Boone or a mix of that and poor writing for her character, possibly due to her acting limitations, and that she was very full of herself in relation to Spader and other actors. However, I don’t know where those rumors originate from because I can’t place that behavior with what I know about her from her interviews.

Hi there, dear anon!! ❤️ What an interesting ask!! I definitely understand what you mean re: all the Megan hate... I've always been kind of surprised at the ferocity of the hate for Megan (not Liz, mind you, that's completely understandable lmfao) even starting in the very beginning. Like, yes, she was a relatively unknown actress without any huge, successful projects under her belt & maybe not the most overtly talented actress out there - especially next to James effing Spader - but she brought Liz to life & did a fantastic job doing it!! As far as the more recent rumors in regards to her attitude & personal beliefs about herself in comparison to other actors... well, they're just that - rumors. Despite the other tidbits of information we've gleaned about Megan from being fans of this show for 8 long, long, long years & how these rumors seem to align with said tidbits, we don't actually know anything. Nothing was ever confirmed by a reputable, verified source & nothing likely ever will be. We can speculate all we want but, at the end of the day? It's none of our business. Our business is what Megan brought to Liz in terms of the show we love (to hate) & that's all.
Speaking of, I think people tend to forget, firstly, that a character & the actor that plays them are very separate &, secondly, that the actor has no control over the script & content they are given. Megan can't be blamed for TPTB's poor writing & she even - by some accounts - tried to stick up for Liz & how she should have been written. But, when it comes down to it, Megan did the best she could with what she was given. And the horrendous quality of the absolute shit she was shoveled will forever be incredibly tragic but that's a topic for another time, I suppose.
In regards to the deleted scene you mention, anon, I've never had the pleasure of seeing it!! I've never actually bought a season of the show on DVD bc I was waiting to see if things would pan out in a way that necessitated it &... well... 😑😑😑 But it's okay, as there's plenty of other scenes throughout the series that showcase Megan's acting ability & Liz's potential as a character, both of which were... so, so wasted. Furthermore, I think the question "how many roads did the writers come so close to going down, only to rob Lizzie & by extension the rest of the show in the process?" is an excellent one, anon. Given how many logical & canon-based options & show directions us fans can come up with? TPTB clearly missed out on many, but we'll never know how many, bc they chose to go with the absolute worst one.
Rest assured, anon, that I genuinely don't understand why they did what they did to Liz either. I've never seen a show work so hard to sabotage their protagonist & main character so fully, not to mention snub the most prominent ship of the show so consistently & heartlessly. It's no secret that I'm of the adamant opinion that they could have made Lizzington work - quite beautifully, I may add - if they really wanted to, which makes it all the more painful that they never did. And while I seriously doubt there is any possibility of Megan/Liz ever coming back, I agree that even that wouldn't right all the many wrongs they managed to do with just the finale, let alone the entirety of season 8... though her return would do wonders for Red's & by extension our hearts. Mad props to you, anon, for being understanding enough to still & always love the show & continue to watch it... bc I'm just not that strong 🥲
Anyway, I think I touched on everything you talked about in your ask & I hope there was something here worth reading!! I'm so flattered you wanted to pick my brain on these topics & were interested enough to know my opinion, that's such a compliment, thank you, anon!! 🥰 No worries about the length either - we all know I'm guilty of long... well, everything LOL - they just take a bit of extra time to answer, so I thank you muchly for your patience, I really appreciate it!! Thanks again, anon, & much love to you, my friend!! ❤️

Season 5 - ‘The Blacklist’ Star Megan Boone Says the Finale Brings the ‘Biggest Reveal’ Yet
Ileane RudolphMAY 15, 2018
Tumblr media
No one will ever say Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) leads an uneventful life.
In Season 5 of NBC’s The Blacklist, the FBI agent was violently widowed, went off the grid and to the dark side in Alaska, dissolved a bad guy in acid, met her hostile half sister and, finally, put down Ian Garvey (Jonny Coyne), the corrupt marshal who killed her husband, Tom (Ryan Eggold). We asked Boone what on earth is next.
Now that Garvey is dead, what’s driving Liz in the season finale?
Megan Boone: Liz still doesn’t know why Tom died. She’s racing Red [James Spader] to find out what’s in the duffel bag that’s so imperative for him to keep hidden. Tom risked and lost his life so she could know.
Will she hurt Red, even though he’s her father, to uncover his secret?
Their agendas put them at significant odds. She becomes more of a threat to Red as the episode progresses.
Does the FBI step in?
The task force has to make a choice, potentially risking the Blacklist and Red as their informant.
Will we — and Liz — learn whose bones are in the bag?
The audience will. It’s the biggest reveal we’ve ever had. You’ll look back at the entire series with new eyes.
Whoa!
It’s a huge turn in the mythology and at the heart of the biggest questions that have existed since the pilot. Fans will be stunned.
The Blacklist, Season Finale, Wednesday, May 16, 8/7c, NBC
