unpopular opinion:

artists do not owe their fans tour concerts and m&g's. their main job is to write music (in some cases), record, release and occasionally perform to promote the music. the concerts & m&g's are a bonus to all of that: to get more money, say thank you to the fans, gain more popularity, etc. in general, it's both a marketing strategy and a gift to the people that support the artist.

that is why, i think it should be respected when an artist doesn't want to tour and/or do m&g's if they're not comfortable with it, because it's not their obligation. we've just gotten so used to it that we think it is and we complain (well actually some of y'all do 'cause i don't) when they don't do it or when they don't perform at our countries, but the truth is, they don't really have to.

Did you see that Swifties are now going after Lil Nas X on X (Formally Twitter) and Tik Tok one of them saying that he must have been raised in a barn for not standing to greet Taylor Swift when she was standing to greet him at the VMA’s? I swear they like to act like their fandom isn’t racist but in the past week they’ve gone after Beyoncé, Olivia Rodrigo, Demi Lovato, and now Lil Nas X. Are they going to pretend thats it’s just a coincidence that all of them are going after singers of the POC community? Like this is why people can’t stand Swifties. Because if someone doesn’t like their favorite white woman then they think it’s acceptable to be making racist and microaggressive comments I swear Swifties are getting ridiculous.

They are? They act like Taylor is the queen of the world and everybody should treat her like one. Why would he stand up and meet her? He doesn’t even know her. Swifties really are annoying and like you said, they are racist as hell. Some of the racist things they said about Beyoncé and other artists of color made me sick.

Also, I feel like they are threatened by those artists you mention because they could be just as popular as Taylor is. I know that Olivia is already breaking records for her upcoming tour and Beyoncé is already way more iconic than Taylor. That’s why Swifties are attacking them. They are honestly pathetic for doing this.

@thiswatch-lepparddef-werehi and I were taking about how City of Angels by Demi Lovato reminded us of Phil and how it needed to be a one shot… so here we are. It also has a touch of Daisy Jones & The Six because I’ve been obsessed with that show lately!

The City of Angels. What a silly name for city that is full of people who are far from angels.

I’ve lived here my whole life. I grew up going to Catholic school and being the perfect little girl my parents wanted to be. It all changed once I got to experience the wonders the Sunset Strip brought at nightfall.

The sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll scene changed me. I started staying out late and bringing home a different guy every night. Somehow my parents never knew it. Maybe they did, and just didn’t have the energy to care. That wasn’t an unusual thing for them. I think they forgot I existed most of the time anyway.

I live alone now, and haven’t spoken to them much over the last few months. I fill the void with whatever I can get my hands on, but still manage to function and maintain a job at the local music store.

I’ve seen all kinds of people in my shop. Guys in no-name bands to rockstars with number one albums. I treat them all the same. It’s always been about the music for me.

The bell over the door rings for the hundredth time today. I sigh and get up from my comfortable sitting position to greet them.

“Hey, welcome to Guitar World. How can I help you today?” I say in what I like to call my customer service voice.

The man takes off his sunglasses and I realize who it is. Phil Collen.

“Hello, love.” He smiles. “I’m just looking around.”

I try to pretend like I’m not absolutely fawning over him. Def Leppard has been a favorite band of mine for a long while. I watch intently while he strolls around, picking up various packs of strings and plucking the guitars that are on display.

Pull yourself together, Y/N. If he catches you staring, what will he think?

Almost as if he could hear this thought, he turns around and we make eye contact. I quickly pretend I was looking somewhere else, but I think he knows.

He comes up to the counter with the items he picked out.

I cough, nervously. “Will this be all?” I mutter as I scan everything.

“Actually, no.” He says. I pause, looking up at him. He’s leaning with one elbow onto the counter. “I’d like to know your name.”

Suddenly it feels my air circulation has cut off. Is this happening right now?

“Uh, Y/N.”

“Phil, but I think you already knew that.” He places money on the counter along with a note, winking before heading out the door.

I stand frozen for a moment before picking up the small sheet of paper and unfolding it. It’s his phone number.

I got off work hours ago, but still keep replaying that moment in my head. I hold the small piece of paper in my hand, tapping my fingers against the phone.

Without thinking any more about it, I dial the number quickly.

“Hello?”

“Phil! Hi. It’s-“

“Y/N. I’ve been waiting for you to call.”

He was waiting for ME to call?

“Um, right. What are you up to?”

“Not much.”

“Do you want to meet me back at the shop? I’m about to lock up, and well, I understand if you don’t want to.” My words run together from my nervousness.

His laughter rings throughout the phone. “I’ll be there in 20.” The receiver clicks and I’m left with silence, aside from my heart beating out of my chest at ten thousand miles per hour.

Sure enough, he arrives a few minutes later. He’s wearing the same outfit he had on earlier, but with a leather jacket added on top of it. I don’t think he’s ever had a bad look in his life.

We end up walking around town, taking in the night scenery. There’s not much light other than the moon shining down above us.

After a bit of walking, we reach a building that is all too familiar to me. The church I grew up going in. The one I went to school in. I stop in my tracks and face it.

His warm hand grasps my shoulder. “Are you alright?”

“I’m okay. I just… I just grew up in this church and went to school here. It saw the good, bad and ugly parts of my life.”

“I see.” He says. He starts to walk up to the doors and go inside.

“What are you doing?”

He turns around to look at me. “I’m going inside.”

“No, we might get in trouble.” I try to stop him, but he just laughs at me in response. He goes inside.

Looking around frantically, I go inside after him.

All the memories come rushing back.

“So you wore one of those little skirts, eh?” He smirks.

“Yes, sometimes much shorter than I was supposed to.” I sit in one of the back pews as he glances around.

“Oh, a rulebreaker.” He inches closer, grabbing my hand and pulling me to the back of the room.

“Gave the nuns hell.” My back ends up pressed against the wall.

“I believe it.” He closed what little space there was between us, pressing his forehead against mine and snaking his arm around my waist. “Want to break some more?”

I don’t respond, I just immediately latch my lips onto his. He meanders his hand inside my top, the sensation of his touch giving me goosebumps.

He picks me up, gripping my hips as he carries me back to the pew we sat at before. He starts to pull off my top, but I stop him. “No time, the night guard will be here soon.” I learned the routine of this church like the back of my hand. After all, this is where I lost my virginity.

“So you did break some rules.” He laughs.

“Frequently. With half of the graduating class.”

He scoffs before he moves down to unbutton my jeans hastily, sliding them off of me along with my underwear. Instead of throwing the black, lacy fabric on the floor, he tucks them in his back pocket.

“Saving those for later.”

“On with it, Romeo.”

“As you wish.”

He reaches and puts two fingers inside, making me gasp from the sudden intrusion. “Already so wet. You’ve been thinking about this all day, haven’t you?”

I can’t get out any words other than a slight “Mm.”

He removes his fingers and starts undoing his own belt, sliding down his pants and boxers in one swift move.

I barely have time to catch my breath after he bottoms out on the first go.

“Goddammit, Phil!”

“Be careful how you use his name.” He whispers, his breath hitting my neck as he enters me again, and again. The old wood of the pew is knocking around just like it used to.

“Almost there.” I lock my ankles at the small of his back as a signal not to move. His movements get slower and slower until he fills me with his warmth.

He pants before leaning his head down on my shoulder.

“We have to go.”

He kisses my neck once more before pulling out of me, causing me to groan out of utter distaste.

We clean ourselves up and quickly get out of the building.

“Well, if there is a hell, we’re certainly going to it.”

“Oh well. I like the warmth anyway.” I wink, grabbing his hand and pulling him back down the sidewalk.

EMLYN: NO-ONE CAME TO GRIEVE UK/EU TOUR

This was my second show at The Deaf Institute and Emlyn’s first show in Manchester however, this is her last show of the tour with only 2 other dates in London & Berlin, similar to the Dylan show I saw there. There was a Paris show when the tour was announced, but that was cancelled due to another opportunity arising for her album release. Emlyn’s alt-pop sound is a mixture of all of my music tastes - think Demi Lovato's 'confident' era pop anthems meets Taylor Swift's reputation era style mixed with Sabrina Carpenter's heartbreak lyricism.

I started listening to Emlyn’s music mid-pandemic and wanted to go to her album release show in London in the early summer of 2022. However, it clashed with my GCSEs, so I wasn’t able to go. This time, the minute she announced this tour, I made plans to go and was also able to book tickets for her meet & greet before the concert and talk to her, buy merch & have a full conversation with the opening act, Beth Mcarthy.

Her set was amazing, I had only listened to a few of her songs a couple of days beforehand, and what I heard was great. She also played an unreleased song and a cover of Billie Eilish’s ‘Happier Than Ever’. Something I found interesting is that she interacted with the sound tech at the back right beforehand whilst on stage, asking for alterations in her IEMs and double-checking the sound on her guitar. We then saw Emlyn’s band come on to double-check their instruments and IEMs inbetween sets and could see them alter a few monitors/boxes on stage & see the guitarist set up and soundcheck. In the intermission between sets my sister approached Emlyn’s manager to say potentially have a chat and say hi but Emlyn was due to come on stage very soon so told her he'd be hanging around after the show so we could come and find him then. The set itself was absolutely incredible. As I said earlier, I've wanted to see Emlyn live for a while now, and she didn't disappoint. If the fact that she had an entire set of belters and vocally challenging songs wasn't enough, her stage presence clearly showed that she's a pop powerhouse. The emotionally vulnerable lyrics of her ‘sad bitch anthems’ perfectly opposed her 'no-remorse bad bitch' anthems and encapsulated her message that it's okay to be a mess and a badass at the same time. After one of her most emotional songs 'Change For Me' the crowd (including us) held up flowers & pictures of her younger self with sweet messages for her to show her that she isn't alone. The transitions between songs were particularly interesting as some of them were medleys of other songs she didn’t play but had the same themes/vibes of those that she did play. Although I didn’t necessarily relate to any of her songs, it was fun to sing along in a room full of those that did and see how much Emlyn has impacted them/their lives.

After the concert, we weren’t expecting her manager to remember us since we assumed he’d be distracted by work, so we were a little surprised when he came out from backstage and walked directly towards us. We had a full conversation with him as I'm considering going into a music business course post-college, and my sister wants to go into graphic design, specifically in the music industry. He gave us a lot of advice about the industry as a whole and a few specific notes into specific sectors. He seemed really enthusiastic talking to us about it. We were really glad that he took the time to talk to us and have a proper conversation with us.

One of my favourite things about Emlyn is that she’s currently working on her 3rd album yet is still almost entirely independent, working most of the time with just her manager and producer. She’s been in the music industry , working with her manager as a songwriter for almost 6 years, only pursuing a solo career for the last 3 The fact that she’s persevered and stayed chasing her dream just shows how determined she is and how much potential she has to be one of the next biggest names in pop.

I know that I said Dylan @ the o2 institute was my favourite concert, but this one definitely takes the top spot - I love this venue and to see my 3rd top artist of 2022 (below 5 Seconds Of Summer & Taylor Swift) at the Deaf Institute was the best birthday experience I could've ever imagined & I can't wait to hear her next album sometime this year.

NITA STRAUSS Holds Clinic, Question-And-Answer Session And Meet-And-Greet At Guitar Center In Hollywood

Former Alice Cooper and current Demi Lovato guitarist Nita Strauss took part in a clinic, question-and-answer session and meet-and-greet on Saturday, February 18 at Guitar Center in Hollywood, California. This past December, Nita underwent a surgery for a torn meniscus.

Nita's meniscus surgery was overseen by Dr. Michael Banffy, an orthopedic surgeon at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles who is also a team doctor for the Los Angeles Rams. The procedure took place seven months after she first sustained the injury while on the road with Cooper.

Strauss, who has been the in-house guitarist for Los Angeles Rams football games since the team moved to SoFi Stadium in 2020, discussed her operation in a social media post in November. At the time she said in a video message: "Surgery has had to be pushed to the end of the year — after Christmas, after the last Rams game — and then it'll be a full month before I can do anything at all again. So no shows, no performing, no nothing. I'm super disappointed at that; I was hoping to already be on the mend by now. But it is what it is."

In an October 2022 interview with Meltdown of Detroit's WRIF radio station, Nita said that she had "been touring with a torn meniscus since May. So I'm actually not as injury prone as I usually would be, because I'm taking it a little easier," she added. "I have surgery scheduled at the end of this tour, between Rams games and everything else I have going on. So right now I've been playing through the most serious injury I've ever had and really just trying to take care of that, make sure it doesn't get worse before it gets better."

Asked if she had to take cortisone shots in order to deal with the pain while performing on stage in recent months, Nita said: "I've had two. I now can't have any more because it's too close to my surgery date. It's getting tough now, but we're making it through.

"All I can really do is keep it under control," she explained. "It's just the realities of running around on stage for 20 years; every once in a while you're gonna get hurt."

According to the Mayo Clinic, a torn meniscus is one of the most common knee injuries. Any activity that causes you to forcefully twist or rotate your knee, especially when putting your full weight on it, can lead to a torn meniscus.

Nita made her live debut with Demi last July with a performance of Lovato's single "Substance" on ABC's Emmy Award-winning late-night show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!".

Strauss had been playing with Cooper since 2014 when she replaced Australian musician and former Michael Jackson player Orianthi. She joined Alice in time for a mammoth MÖTLEY CRÜE tour. She was recommended to Cooper by the legendary rocker's former bass player and WINGER frontman Kip Winger.

In October, Nita released a new solo single and accompanying music video, "The Wolf You Feed". The track features a guest appearance by Alissa White-Gluz of ARCH ENEMY.

"The Wolf You Feed" was the second song Nita has released featuring a star guest vocalist, the first being the "Dead Inside" which featured guest vocals from DISTURBED's David Draiman and saw Nita become the first ever solo female to have a No. 1 hit at Active Rock radio. She also returned to her instrumental roots last year with the release of single "Summer Storm", a fast-paced, emotive shred-fest.

As well as performing with Cooper, Nita has also played with R&B star Jermaine Jackson, early MTV darlings FEMME FATALE, video game supergroup CRITICAL HIT and popular tribute band THE IRON MAIDENS.
