So I was reading the Bhagwata Purana today, and I read about how women are "less intelligent" and less capable of understanding Kanha's supremacy than men for the umpteenth time.
And then I started thinking about Radha and the gopis, the ashta-bharya, Meera, and Andal Devi.
And now I'm just wondering, what if Kanha took up this particular form (as Krishna) just to prove to the world that women are more than capable of loving him much more than men ever could, and of being his biggest devotees.

Note
what books will you recommend for the beginners who are into Indian Mythology?
Start with the Bhagavad Gita. Although it is deeply philosophical, it helps cultivate love for God. After that, I recommend reading the Puranas, such as the Shrimad Bhagavatam and Devi Bhagavatam, to understand the pastimes of the Lord. If you're not inclined to read the Puranas, you can read:
Meera's Poems
Krishnayana
Garga Samhita
Narada Bhakti Sutra
Yogini: Unfolding the Goddess Within
The Forest of Enchantments
The Palace of Illusions
Radha: From Gopi to Goddess
These works will enhance your understanding of the devotion and the divine. I hope you enjoy reading these.

First OC post!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of the art + the animation you see above was done by my bestest best friend Dee! You can find more of their incredible work on their instagram dee_from_webtoon
Please check him out!
The character with the mustache sitting next to her on the bench is one of Dees own characters named Jackson Jet. Also the t-shirt is talking about Sarala lmfao
This my original main character, Sarala Devi! (Pronounced like Davey)
Pronouns are She/Her, and she’s pansexual but doesn’t explicitly identify as such
Has nothing at all to do with her internalized homophobia towards herself👍 /s
Sarala is a 49 year old mother of 2 adult sons (Vincent and Jordan) and grandmother to one adopted grandchild (Riley)
She’s a scientist with passions for biology, dermatology, and chemistry. But also has a knowledge in/tinkers around with robotics.
Her Spider-name is Makadee Naree (Hindi for Spider-Woman), and she has all the usual Spider powers *plus* the ability to shoot webs from her ankles as well as her wrists! She also gained her powers in the typical way, bite from a radioactive spider from the lab she works at. She was the first to be bitten and gained powers, and then the same happened to all three of her children as well, which led them to become San Jose’s one and only Spider-Family!
*please ignore how on some of the drawings she has two small spiders as part of her chest emblem, her design has been changed to drop those so it’s just the black widow spider on her chest*
She and my other characters existed prior to me gaining my interest in Spider-Man, but since I love Spider-Man so much and that love really helped me develop my characters so much further and deeper, I only really focus on the Spider versions of them all.
Her best friends are named Frank DuPont and Meera Tamanna. Meera’s her on and off again high school sweetheart girlfriend, buuuut then one day I accidentally shipped Sarala with Miguel O’Hara and that happened instead lmao
I have so many more characters I’m just itching to share, if any of the names from this post pique your interest the most, let me know and I’ll post them next!!

Tribute to Saraswati Devi, the first woman music director in Hindi films, on her 44th death anniversary (09/08/1980).
Born in a Parsi family in 1912, Saraswati Devi was a trained classical singer and rose to become India’s first woman music director of Bollywood.
A musical rage in the 30s and early 40s, Saraswati Devi's musical career was mostly confined to films produced by Bombay Talkies. Starting with 'Jawani Ki Hawa' in 1935, she went on to compose highly popular music for hit films like Achhut Kanya, Kangan, Bandhan and jhoola.
She was born as Khursheed Manchersher Minocher – Homji.
She changed her name to escape the wrath of the conservative elements of her community as they could never stand that a lady from their clan would enter the film world.
Once when at a gathering the Bombay Talkies owner Himanshu Rai heard her, he instantly invited her to join his concern as a music director. She was reluctant at first, not knowing how she would adjust herself to the needs of the film industry. But finally she accepted the offer.
She was the first woman music director no doubt. But the biggest challenge she faced was to groom non-singers into singers. That was a very, very big challenge in view of the competition from New Theatres as she didn’t have a Saigal or a Kanan to sing her compositions. That is why one should say that she had a formidable task to perform unlike her counterparts like R.C.Boral, Tamir Baran and others in Calcutta.
The biggest contribution by Saraswati Devi, therefore, was to produce hit songs through the lips of non-singers like Ashok Kumar, Devika Rani and Leela Chitnis.. Right from Achchut Kanya till Jhoola, Saraswati Devi went on rampage, so to speak, producing one hit after another. Leela Chitnis could sing hit songs like, ‘Meera ke jeevan ki sooni parri re sitar’ (Kangan), ‘Man bhavan lo sawan aya re’(Bandhan) and ‘Jhoole ke sang jhoolo jhoolo mere man’.(Jhoola) Imagine Saraswati Devi producing a golden jubilee hit in the voices of Ashok Kumar and Devika Rani in film ‘Achhut Kanya’ (a film that Nehru saw and appreciated)-‘Main ban ki chirriya ban ke ban ban bolun re’. The biggest hit by her was the marching song of Bandhan, ‘Chal chal re nau jawan’ sung in solo by Ashok Kumar, sung in chorus by Ashok Kumar and sung as a duet by him with Leela Chitnis. She used a non-singer like Sneh Prabha to sing the Puner Milan song, ‘Nacho nacho pyare man ke mor’. The male singer she had was Arun Kumar, who sung for Kishore Sahu in Punermilan, for Mumtaz Ali in ‘Jhoola’ (Main to Dilli se dulhan laya re he babuji) and others. Incidentally, it was she who gave break to Kavi Pradeep as a singer though he was writing lyrics for the concern since 1939 from film ‘Kangan’. She first used him in that immortal song of ‘Bandhan’ which is played in the back ground: ‘Piyu piyu bol praan papeehe piyu piyu bol’ Pradeep did sing subsequently some big hits after leaving Bombay Talkies. But in ‘Jhoola’ he has left behind a memorable song too tuned by Saraswati Devi: ‘Mere bichade hue saathi teri yaad sataye, baar baar teri chavi aye birha agan jaraae’
After she left Bombay Talkies, she shot into limelight again in the early fifties when she tuned two non-film ghazals for Habib Wali Mohammad. These were: ‘Lagta nahin hai dil mera ujjarre dayar mein’ and ‘Yeh na thi hamari kismet ke visaal-e-yaar hota’. When you listen to her compositions, specially the indigenously-flavored background music, you are transported into the environment of the India of the early 20th century.
During the later years of her life, the bad and selfish film world turned apathetic towards the doyenne. Not even a single person visited her when she fractured her hip bone after falling from a private bus. The legendary singer and India’s first female music director left for a better world in 1980 with no one to mourn her death. Even the media did not find her worthy of an obituary. Ajay Patel
Name: Ajay Patel Nicknames: JJ (By Sid), Big Bad Wolf (His infamous title) Age: Young Adult (Immortal) Life State: Werewolf Traits: Bookworm, Childish, Creative, Athletic Home World: Moonwood Mill Likes: Yellow, Metal Music, Fitness, Painting, Knitting, Sparring Dislikes: Pipe Organ, Vampires, Sour Candy, Getting wet Partner: Sidorian The Mistwalker Children: Sasi Patel, Isaac Patel, Hyacinth, Zephyr Parents: Ravi Devi (Father) Meera Patel (Mother, Deceased) Best Friends: Fern Wildwood, Valley Carr Pets: Pepper The Cat Theme Song: Animal in Me - Solence
If you thought Greg was the strongest werewolf out there, you'd be wrong. Ajay is a proud werewolf that's always sparring with other werewolves, hunting, chasing the mailman and being a werewolf menace in general. He's the only one in Moonwood Mill who has defeated Greg in several spars, sometimes just for fun and bragging rights. Truthfully, he is acting the part of a bully werewolf to keep face. While he is in no doubt, a strong werewolf, he's way nicer than he might appear to be. He likes reading, painting and knitting and is actually quite smart (save for a few wolf brain moments)
He use to be picked on by other werewolf pups for being "weak" so he pushed away his true self to become the big bad wolf. After he defeated Greg for the first time he started to wander around with no purpose. He was the big bad wolf, no one wanted to be his friend and he was resigned that'd he be a loner forever. This is until he encountered an elven spellcaster named Sidorian while he was hunting in Glimmerbrook. Sid was kind to him, and very intrigued by this werewolf as he had been studying the mooncasters in his free time. It took awhile for Ajay to open up and eventually turn back into his normal form and he became close with this silly elf he had a fondness for. Sid encouraged him to get back into the things he really loved. Sid likely prevented Ajay from becoming a worse version of Greg and Ajay is forever grateful to him to him for that.

house toland - a family tree
the history of house toland and the ghost hills
varun toland brother of slya manwoody, husband of amara toland, father of aditya, pallavi and devani toland
varun toland took little interest in his children. a sailor aboard an essoian ship before he was a lord, and a second child himself who became heir upon his eldest sister's death, some of the few conversations he had with either of his offspring were lamenting the loss of his glory days at sea. he passed away during devani's time in essos, a fact she learned upon her return to dorne.
slya manwoody sister of varun toland, mother of joy manwoody and the other manwoody siblings
when varun became the heir of ghost hill upon the death of their eldest sister, slya was married into house manwoody, giving birth to several children including the deceased joy manwoody, mother of the current ruling lord, the infant ishaan.
amara toland wife of varun toland, mother of aditya, pallavi and devani toland
amara toland was a demanding mother to both of her daughters, with ambitions of advantageous marriages or small council positons for both pallavi and devani. an overbearing woman, she came from a very minor house, and is regarded as a social climber. despite her high expectations for her daughters, she has always doted on her first born and eldest son, aditya, who in her eyes can do no wrong.
aditya toland son of varun and amara toland, brother of pallavi and devani toland
the first-born child of house toland, aditya became the ruling lord after varun's death. spoiled and coddled by his mother, he is weak-willed and entitled, often referring to amara whenever he needs to make a decision. he has very few friends, and has made an enemy of house jordayne after taking liberties with one of the sisters.
pallavi toland daughter of varun and amara toland, sister of aditya and devani toland, wife of doran uller
pallavi toland was the second born child of house toland and an ambitious schemer, moulded by her mother to aim high. she was married to doran uller in a political match and would later be executed for her part in trying to assassinate him - a plot aditya and amara were in on. this occurred whilst devani was in essos, and she would not learn of it until her return.
devani toland daughter of varun and amara toland, sister of aditya and pallavi toland, estranged wife of bennaro nogarys, mother of kheerat toland
the youngest child of varun and amara, devani was always the more rebellious of her siblings, clashing dramatically with her mother until she eventually fled dorne at sixteen. she did not return until fourteen years later upon hearing word of her brother's issues, knowing that she stands to inherit ghost hill should he be killed during his trial by combat.
bennaro nogarys estranged husband of devani toland, father of kheerat toland
a sellsword, bennaro nogarys met devani toland as devi the bard, during her time in essos, and the two married when devani was twenty-three. upon learning of his wife's true identity, bennaro changed in the way he treated devani, becoming more controlling and more combative. after giving birth to their son, devani would disappear from his life, leaving him to raise their child. bennaro is recently deceased, succumbing to infection from a wound.
kheerat toland son of devani toland and bennaro nogarys
six years old, kheerat was born on his mother's twenty-fourth birthday and abandoned by her three weeks later. raised by his father, kheerat was given his mother's name at birth so that he might have a claim to ghost hill. an intelligent, kind, sensitive boy, he has been secretly transported to dorne in the wake of his father's death, and is currently being hidden by his mother in the kitchens of ghost hill, awaiting her next move.

Bollywood Movies Part CCVII
Tumblr media
Roommates Sid (Dulquer Salmaan) and Kallis (Rakshan) fall for Meera (Ritu Varma) and Shreya (Niranjani Ahathian) respectively. Sid and Kallis are also criminals, using technology to commit crimes such as stripping computers and selling the parts and then returning the computers with inferior components and theft. When DCP Prathap (Gautham Vasudev Menon) starts tracking their crimes, Kallis and Sid decide to go to Goa with Meera and Shreya and their ill gotten gains. However, they discover that Meera and Shreya are con artists after they leave with the boys’ money.
Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal is a fun movie that has romance, betrayal, a chase, and a heist. I don’t have much to say about it except that it was enjoyable and entertained me. Favorite songs are Sirikkalam Parakkalam, Ennai Vittu, and Kanave Nee Naan. None of the songs have subtitles.
Tumblr media
When Champak’s (Irrfan Khan) feud with his cousin Gopi (Deepak Dobriyal) over using the family name for their competing sweets shops causes his daughter Tarika (Radhika Madan) to lose her scholarship to a university in England, Champak decides to help her get in no matter what.
Angrezi Medium is a great film about family, especially the relationship between parents and their children. It’s lots of fun and heartwarming. I enjoyed the parallel shown between Champak and Tarika’s relationship  and Naina (Kareena Kapoor Khan) and Mrs. Kohli’s (Dimple Kapadia) relationship. Favorite songs are Ek Zindagi (English subtitles) and Samajh Ni Pavega (no subtitles, stills and audio).
Tumblr media
Anupama Bannerji (Sanya Malhotra) decides to sue her mother Shakuntala Devi (Vidya Balan) for selling Anu’s business properties and keeping the profit for herself. During the settlement meetings for the case, Shakuntala’s rise to fame as “The Human Computer” is depicted.
Shakuntala Devi is extremely biased as the creatives only based the movie on Anupama Bannerji’s narrative and did not bother to do anything other than superficial research into the events in the movie. While I enjoyed learning about Shakuntala Devi, I think the film does her a disservice. Favorite song is Rani Hindustani (no subtitles).

Rabindranath Tagore
Indian poet and writer
Tumblr media
Rabindranath Tagore FRAS was an Indian poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer and painter. He reshaped Bengali literature and music as well as Indian art with Contextual Modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Born: May 7, 1861, Jorasanko Thakurbari, Kolkata, India
Died: August 7, 1941, Jorasanko Thakurbari, Kolkata, India
Children: Rathindranath Tagore, Shamindranath Tagore, Renuka Devi, Meera Devi, Madhurilata Devi
Spouse: Mrinalini Devi (m. 1883–1902)
Parents: Debendranath Tagore, Sarada Devi
I came to rest at the altar of the stars
From the forest branches fading     birdsong offered Self-sacrifice to a huge silence. Dark formlessness settled over all     diversity Of land and water. As shadows, as particles,     my body Fused with endless night. I came to rest At the altar of the stars. Alone, amazed,     I stared Upwards with hands clasped and said,     "Sun, you have removed Your rays: show now your loveliest,     kindlier form That I may see the Person who dwells in     me as in you."  Rabindranath Tagore
The poems of Rabindranath Tagore are among the most haunting and tender in Indian and world literature, expressing a profound and passionate human yearning. His ceaselessly inventive works deal with such subjects as the interplay between God and mortals, the eternal and the transient, and the paradox of an endlessly changing universe that is in tune with unchanging harmonies
Tagore was a recipient of the Nobel Prize in literature, which was awarded by the Swedish Academy in 1913. The award that he did renounce, as a mark of protest against the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919, was the knighthood bestowed upon him by the British.

Sab kuch chood ke mann ek mein bus ek hi dua hai
Baith jaaye sab kuch chood ke tere lagan mein iss tereh
Ki baith jaaye sab kuch chood ke tere lagan mein iss tereh
Jaise karn karn mein basse the kanha ji meera mein jis tereh
jaise karn karn mein basse the kanha ji meera mein jis tereh.....
