Thunderful and Studio Fizbin Announce Reignbreaker, a "Medievalpunk" Action Game

At Gamescom Opening Night Live, Thunderful and developer Studio Fizbin unveiled Reignbreaker, a roguelike action game that as seen in the announcement trailer at the link here, might definitely give off some vibes of the likes of Hades, but it becomes clear quite soon that the game has its own unique world that blends together a bit of the modern world with the more hardcore, gritty elements of medieval times (the era, not the restaurant).

EXCITING DOUBLE BIRD EVENT! and here we get the fun time of describing the Difference between the sharpe and foth ladyhawke stories, and also why the sharpe one has been so much easier to write.

so the film Ladyhawke, in which both these stories are based, is about a curse placed on a pair of semi-star-crossed lovers, involving day-night animal transformations that don't overlap with the other half of the duo. but a lot of Ladyhawke's humor and charm proves to come from the fact that it's told from an outside perspective — a silly fellow with a penchant for theft, prison breaks, and general mischief. and thus, it's a much smoother journey to allow the Chosen Men to scamper about low-fantasy vaguely-medievalpunk au-Spain...

Sharpe stared at him in mixed confusion and dismay, and Harris determined that he’d speak his piece more fully this time. “Well, you see, it was that you up and vanished, and so we figured that we ought to go and find you.” “And it’d be helpful, wouldn’t it, if we did!” put in Perkins. “We didn’t mean to be gone long,” said Hagman, the only one out of the four of them to display even a smidgen of guilt. “And we wouldn’t have been, if he hadn’t—“ “—if you hadn’t broken into the—“ “—well, you’re the one who—“ “—you and your damned rum—“ “…and that’s how we went and got ourselves arrested,” finished Harris, as if Sharpe had been able to determine the slightest through-line of truth in the cacophony of conflicting stories. “But we got out again, as you see.” The four Chosen Men, the last remnants of Richard Sharpe’s final command, looked at their officer proudly, quite as if they expected to be congratulated for their unexcused jaunt off from the army and their trip in through one side of a prison and out the other.

The next day dawns misty and damp, a clinging curtain of fog folding itself around the two travelers. The sick, dizzy feeling that comes with transformation takes far longer to leave than is typical, and so he remains prone beneath the overhang of rock as his cramped muscles slowly ease. He had cared little for where he fell as the morning’s shift took him off his feet, sprawling to lie on his side with one hand fallen in the now-cold ashes of the previous night’s fire. Despite the scrap of shelter provided by the outcropping of stone, the thick wetness of the air has already seeped into Keith’s hair and clothes, and as a tendril of wind brushes across his back, he finds himself shivering enough to set his already-strained body to aching. “If this is summer, Ardroy…” he mutters, knowing that his words will be neither finished nor heard. The mere suggestion he has put forth inspires a wholly new fear in him — where shall each of them be come winter, and will the curse still bind them together when the seasons have made their turn? Keith laughs cheerlessly, stretches out a hand to feel the rain against his palm. Damn this country, damn this war, damn whatever fate had been cruel-handed enough to serve him so poorly…. Catching his words close again, he stops himself before he can finish. One thing at least, he cannot curse, and that is Ewen Cameron.

We learn that he wasn't actually born into a royal family like all the Kings. So he just doesn't have eyes, that's pretty harsh. Going up against a disabled person.

So far, King DJ seems to be a character rather than an allegory for an existing historical figure. He seems to have left a big mark in the history of Callan, he is competent and powerful, but also he is evil.

Idk, I kinda wish this comic didn't take the "Dominic Deegan does the French Revolution" route for the final story. I mean it's more unique than having just The Beast be the main villain, but I still feel like Final Boss of Dominic Deegan should have been someone more personal. In most stories, the corrupt system just exists as an antagonist that can't be fought, and outside of YA novels they almost never end with the corrupt system being torn down. Dominic Deegan should've done that to fully nail the Medievalpunk genre but Mookie really wants to have his bitchboy kill a King.

In Another Universe: Tender Love warms Cold Hearts, Explicit, Graphic depictions of Violence, Merrill/Female Hawke. A medievalpunk AU where modern and Medieval tech mixes, retelling the story of DA2 with more of a focus on Merrill and Hawke's relationship.

A gift fic I’m proud of: The Maker’s Forgiveness, Teen & up, Florianne de Chalons/Female Trevelyan. Grand Duchess Florianne tries to seduce and manipulate Trevelyan, only to find out that the Inquisitor is not as naive as she assumed.

Rare Pairings: Blessed Are the Lovers, General Audiences, Cullen Rutherford/Sebastian Vael. Cullen has been secretly in love with Sebastian for years, but can’t hide his feelings after seeing him at a friend’s wedding.

Absolute angst: This Is What Would Happen, Mature, Major Character Death, Iron Bull/Dorian Pavus. Bull’s POV through to Trespasser as he remains Ben-Hassrath and falls in love with Dorian after sacrificing the Chargers.

That time I tried something different: Same as the Day Before, General Audiences, Avexis & Minaeve. Genfic in present tense where Avexis finds herself stuck in a time loop, receiving news of the Tranquil cure over and over again.

An overlooked gem: Rescue Mission, Teen & up. Merrill & the rest of the DA2 crew go to rescue Fenris after Hawke sells him back to Danarius.

So, let's go into it more, we have Dragon Age first:

Marian is on perfect forehead kissing height for Merrill. Marian is a half-elf rogue, in my Medievalpunk DA2 crossover fic, where she tries to navigate all the hostilities of Kirkwall while keeping her family safe, and catching very unexpected feelings for the Dalish elf that fell into her life. Fic(s): Tender Love warms Cold Hearts (Rated E for gore, NSFW scenes are marked to skip easily)

Faith is a film student moving to Kirkwall, where she meets Merrill in her class. the fic is largely a meditation on religion, with Faith struggling to find her identity as a half-elf, and where she fits in with the Elvhen religion because of it. She was shunned by the elves in her hometown, but Merrill is very eager to make her feel included. Faith can also comfortably nestle herself under Merrill's chin, making for very comfy cuddles. Fic(s): Have Faith in Me (Rated T, does not contain violence or smut)

Cassidy appeared to me in a dream, so doesn't have a firmly rooted story yet, but towers over her girlfriends, and is very comfortable cuddling with them both piled on top of her. No fics yet

Almithara reluctantly took up the position of Inquisitor, and Sera was one of the few levities that made the job bearable for her. She fell in love quite quickly, and does anything to keep her archer safe. No fics yet, but hopefully soon.

Jane has always given everything to help others, and neglecting herself in the process. but Liara can cut through that, and recognizes the deep emotional needs inside her. Fic(s): Stolen Nights among the stars: A M rated one-shot about Liara strugglign to keep the relationship hidden from the rest of the crew Orbitting the Shadow of my Twin: A M Rated longfic, with two shepards on opposite sides.

Kate Shepard towers over both of her lovers, even if she is slightly shorter than her twin sister. She is ruthless, not holding back to obtain her goals no matter the costs. But Thane makes her see the parts of life worth loving, and Samantha reminds her that she is someone who deserves to be loved regardless of the situations she is thrust into. Fic(s): Make me forget my worries: An E rated very smutty one-shot with her emotional vulnerability around Thane. Orbitting the Shadow of my twin: A M rated longfic, with two Shepards, where Kate is forced to go after her own sister.

Demi is the main character of my original work Untethered, that I honestly think hasn't aged greatly and am tempted to rewrite. She has DID, and discovers this, and meets her headmate Avelyn around the same time she develops her crush on Jess. Fic(s): Untethered an E rated fic that, honestly, in my own opinion is too smutty and needs to be toned down.
