Arnhari, Toa of Creation

Arnhari’s personality is an enigma. They have neither Gnifera’s love nor Vahoro’s disdain for the beings of the Matoran Universe. They never seem to act without purpose or speak without careful consideration. To the foolish viewers, Arnhari may look passive, but they have a busy mind, constantly adding and subtracting, juggling the variables of the universe and the pertinence of action or inaction. If they do not consider it their time, no force in the universe may sway them. When roused, though, their effortless power makes their will inexorable. They wield the Genesis Brush, an unusual implement for the Matoran universe capable of daubing images into being, creating whatever it is they desire. Their power is not without limits, though, for the Great Spirits shackled Arnhari with the Kanohi Samsenrah, the Mask of Sacrifice; if Arnhari were to attempt to create matter from nothing, they must surrender life their own life, a sliver at a time.

So Arnhari may well be one of my favourite Toa designs I’ve ever done. Sand green is a really rare Technic colour, so I had to get creative with System parts to keep it as a primary colour. I also really like their mask, feeling it almost evokes a muzzle, and it was in fact that that first pushed me to make the Legendary Elemental Toa. Once again, I used Dynasty Warriors for inspiration in weapons. I like that none of the Legendary Toa actually use anything that could be considered a conventional weapon - they don’t exactly need them.

Kravuya, Toa of Shadow

Kravuya, and her brother Avini are each others’ minders, confidants, and best friends. They are very rarely seen without each other, for good reason - Avini keeps Kravuya moral, and Kravuya keeps Avini proactive. But shadows are a powerful ally, if you dare to dance in the dark. Kravuya is keen to prove herself, in part to shake off the vile reputation of the power of Shadow, but also to earn the respect of her fellow Toa. Kravuya wears the Kanohi Xehano, the Mask of Apathy, which allows her to temporarily shut off the inner light of herself and others around, enabling her to harness the true might of Shadow without forsaking her moral compass permanently. Meanwhile, her Ender Cannon can level most threats to her or her people.

I found it interesting to design a good Toa of Shadow. I find it a bit reductive to have one group or power that are just fundamentally evil, especially because according to canon to only way to get power over Shadow is to just be a complete jerk. To reconcile this, I found a mask inspired by the Heartless from Kingdom Hearts, which I thought would be a good stand-in for this kind of moral shut down.

Mask: Kiril, Mask of Regeration (Modelled by MechanicalHands)

Built for deep ocean search and rescue missions, Toa Hyhati's body has been heavily modified to survive the crushing pressure. Her Kiril allows her to perform repairs on herself without needing to surface.
