2022 Watchlist
Current Watchlist // 2023 Watchlist // 2021 Watchlist // My Favourites / My Art These are all the dramas I finished in 2022. They might not have been released in 2022, but this is when I watched (and finished) them. Year total: 76 dramas watched. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beware, here be spoilers!!
(Everything is subject to change and just personal opinion. My ratings and opinions don't reflect on the quality of the shows at all. Tastes vary!)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dramas I finished in 2022.
(Alphabetical order.) 180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us (Thai BL) Final rating: 8/10 This show was painful but beautiful. Painful in that I knew from the very first episode that it wouldn't have a happy ending, but the writing and acting and cinematography were still gorgeous to look at. Wang falling in love was tragic, because it was never going to work out. He was the very image of his father, stuck between his (love for his) mother and (his love for) In. Except where his father was on an even setting with the both of them, he's still seen as a child. Him trying to convince the world that he's not was more of a struggle in this show than him being attracted to a man was. He represented his mother and In's greatest fears and regrets. And as a result he was never going to get what he wanted with In, because In was never going to risk making the same mistakes and destroying someone the way he destroyed himself. Beautiful, but painful. So be careful if you watch this.
21 Days Theory (Thai BL) Final rating: 7/10
A cute show that surprised me. I was expecting it to be, well, worse, but it was actually rather cute and I didn't even hate the side characters. I don't really have strong feelings about it, though, which means it was good enough to have me look back on it fondly, but nothing really stood out to me at the same time.
8.2 Byo no Hosoku / The 8.2 Second Rule (Japanese BL) Final rating: 6/10 A short little series with a main character who finds himself being the match maker for cute guys but never finds one who likes him. Or does he? It's short and not really much of a BL, but it's cute?
About Youth (Taiwanese BL) Final rating: 7/10 I have to admit that I don't remember much from this show. I remember that I thought it was cute and that I was surprisingly into the secondary pairing, but that's all. I may have to rewatch it at some point to be able to give a better review. Ai Long Nhai (Thai BL)
Final rating: 6/10 Oh boy, this one was messy. The two main actors try their best and do have chemistry, but the storyline was a mess and I left the show feeling confused. I finished it because I felt like I had to, but I wasn't really enjoying it. (And this is coming from someone who actually really liked Tonhon Chonlatee and was excited about this somewhat related show, so my taste is obviously flawed.)
Alchemy of Souls (Season 1) (Korean Drama) Final rating: 8.5/10 I really, really enjoyed this show. It's the perfect mix of other worldly fantasy mixed with adventure and great characters. The two main characters were both interesting, the plot a lot of fun, and I actually looked forward to every new episode. Worth a watch if you're into action/adventure fantasy shows set in a beautiful world.
Bad Buddy (Thai BL)
Final rating: 9.5/10 Bad Buddy is already a classic. Every person who's into BLs at all should watch this one, because it's the perfect example of what a good BL should be. It uses, creates, AND circumvents some staple BL tropes but it does it in a great way. The two main characters are awesome together, the actors have comfortable chemistry, and this show has one of the best first kisses known to man. (Also, the moment when Pat and Pran have a sleep over and talk about whether they have a crush on Ink will forever make me cry. Pran's reaction when he realizes that the guy he likes is into someone else is devastating and played so, so well. Heartbreaking scene.)
Be Loved in House: I Do Final rating: 8/10 I actually really like this show. It has a fun - albeit somewhat silly - plot that makes for some great tension between the two main leads. Their characters are opposites in many ways, but gradually you see that they also have some things in common and compliment each other. They make the other better people. Also, the final confession is great. Behind Cut (Korean BL)
Final rating: 7/10 I feel like this show had a lot of potential and I really enjoyed the first couple of episodes. The tension was there and I liked the contrast between the two main characters, but once they got together I wasn't super into it. I thought the best friend of one of the main characters was actually the best thing about the show. He was fun and tragic and his jealousy made for some entertaining moments.
Big Dragon (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7/10 I feel very conflicted about this show, because on the one hand it didn't give me what I'd initially imagined it would, but on the other hand the chemistry between the two leads was great and the story was still very entertaining. The push and pull of the main couple's relationship was a lot of fun and while I'm not 100% sold on the story, the pairing and chemistry from the actors I'm absolutely behind.
Blueming (Korean BL) Final rating: 8.5/10 I always think back fondly on this show. It's one I've watched more than once, mostly because I like how comfortable the main characters feel and how pretty it's shot. As an artist, I just love looking at pretty shows that make me want to draw and this is one of those. It's cute, well produced, and the actors mesh well together.
Cherry Blossoms After Winter (Korean BL) Final rating: 8/10 Much like Blueming, this show is just gorgeous to look at. It has great use of colours and always has a dreamy atmosphere about it. I'm not usually one for step-brothers kinds of relationships, but I actually really like this one. It adds conflict to everything. Also, the younger character being the tallest and more confident of the two is cute. They're just cute, okay?
Choco Milk Shake (Korean BL) Final rating: 9.5/10 If you'd told me a year ago that one of my favourite shows from 2022 would be one about a cat and dog reincarnated as humans, I'd have told you you were crazy. In fact, initially I wasn't going to watch this because it just sounded too silly for me to suspend my disbelief. But, then I saw it was a Strongberry production and I gave it a shot anyway. And, oh my god, was it charming. Somehow the silly premise works and somehow it ends up both breaking your heart and mending it. The chemistry between both pairings is excellent and I still adore how heartbreaking and beautiful the Uncle/Milk pairing is. I still headcanon about them sometimes. <3
Close Friend Season 2 (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7.5/10 I actually like this one better than season 1, which is surprising because this involves established relationships instead of the journey getting there. Is it phenomenal? No. Does it showcase how cute Ohm and Fluke can be? Yes. Also, I was very into the second/main pairing that this season introduced, which probably helped make it less 'established relationship'y.
Color Rush Season 1 (Korean BL)
Final rating: 7.5/10 Color Rush has an amazing premise and is absolutely stunning to look at. The use of colour is both important to the storyline as well as the production and you can tell. The main characters have great chemistry and the story is painful, dark, and colourful all in one.
Color Rush Season 2 (Korean BL)
Final rating: 8/10 Much like the first season, this season is gorgeous and there is a surprisingly interesting plot to it. I was skeptical at first because one of the main characters/actors had been replaced, but it worked well and there is something hauntingly tragic about this relationship where one person has spent a lot of time waiting for the man he loves to return while his new lover must now be terrified of that actually happening. Let's just say, if this ever got a third season I wouldn't be opposed to it. Cupid's Last Wish (Thai BL)
Final rating: 8.5/10 This is my least favourite EarthMix show and it's rated 8.5 out of 10. Can you tell how much I love EarthMix as a pairing? XD It's a bit of a wild story, but I was willing to go along with it for the famous comfortable EarthMix chemistry. (Which is funny considering how volatile those two sometimes are together in real life, lmao.) I wasn't even opposed to the inclusion of the sister. It made everything more tense. 'Is he in love with me or my sister?'
Cutie Pie (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7.5/10 I'm torn on Cutie Pie. On the one hand it's well made, has a unique storyline, and great chemistry between the characters, but on the other hand it has some toxic 'I'm lying to you and making decisions for you for your own good because I am older and more mature and know better' attitudes that I just can't get behind. If you ignore that then it's a fun show, though.
Dear Doctor, I'm Coming for Soul (Thai BL) Final rating: 7.5/10 I have to admit, at one point I didn't like this show and stopped watching it. It took me months to go back and finish it. In the end, it had me crying. It's a weird kind of 'I like it but I don't' show for me, where I'm not huge on the chemistry of the main couple - mostly because one of the characters is a literal angel of death and he's stiff and otherworldly for most of the series - but the story still makes me cry. A timeless, immortal being having to watch their loved one grow old and die will forever break my heart, okay?
DNA Says Love You (Taiwanese BL)
Final rating: 7/10 This is a show that does a lot of things really well. At the same time, it took me a while to get invested. I think it was the big reveal that cemented it as 'this one is decent' for me. And it does say some meaningful things about what love means and whatnot. It just...didn't do as much for me as some other shows do.
Double (Japanese BL)
Final rating: 6/10 I don't...remember much about this show other than what the basic plot was and that I wanted to like it more than I actually did.
It had everything I like in a show, complete with angst and pining, but I just...didn't feel it? Eien no Kinou / Eternal Yesterday (Japanese BL)
Final rating: 8/10 God, this show hurts. Imagine finally realizing your feelings and maybe having those feelings returned and then suddenly your happiness is taken from you. Only, that person is not actually dead. They're still with you, but everyone forgets about them and they're slowly dying in front of you. I know this sounds super tragic and sad - and it is! - but it's also beautiful, because love and affection are why that person was able to live just a little longer. He was able to show his love, talk about what he felt, and just live while being loved. Even if it was just for a little while, that was beautiful. This show made me so sad and yet I'm glad that I watched it.
Enchanté (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7.5/10 Oh boy. I know a lot of people aren't hugely into this show and I do agree that the writing could have been stronger. (Also, Theo...my man. Decisions were made. Talking would have sufficed, okay?) However, I actually rather like this silly show. The two main characters are very different, but that's the fun thing about them and there are enough interesting side characters to put these characters in various fun situations. Also, ForceBook just have good chemistry and it makes it enjoyable to watch.
Even Sun (Thai BL)
Final rating: 6/10 Look, this show just has me so mad. BounPrem are better than this. So much better. And the sad thing is, this show being bad has nothing to do with them. I don't know what the writers were on, but...it either was way too much or not enough. What the hell was this? I actually really enjoyed episode one and then after about two or three episodes it just went down the drain. The story made no sense - Prem's character is there to get his money back from Boun's character even though it's apparently the other way around? and legally that somehow works? And then Boun's character basically kidnaps Prem's character even though earlier he was trying his best to get rid of him? - and the side pairing was cute but was so disconnected from the main story that it felt like two different shows. BounPrem deserve better. Honestly. I'm so glad they got Between Us.
Fahlanruk (Thai BL)
Final rating: 6/10 Failanruk, more like. Oh my god, was this show a mess. Like a lot of other shows before it, I was fine and kind of interested after episode one. Not so much after episode three or four. Basically, my headcanons were fun and fascinating. Two playboys hooking up and having a friends with benefits situation before gradually realizing they've fallen for each other and having to navigate a situation - genuine affection and an actual relationship - they've never been in before sounds great. But no, one of the playboys just falls in love after day one for absolutely no reason and the other somehow falls in love too after being hounded and pestered for a while. Why anyone would be at all attracted to Fahlan is beyond me, because he is one of the worst (non-criminal) human beings I've had the pleasure of seeing in a BL. He's rude, obnoxious, toys with his own boyfriend and judges him for cheating when he himself has done nothing but cheat on him, harasses a guy who's made it clear he only wants a one night stand, is an asshole to his friends, and is over the top jealous/possessive of his boyfriend several times. Sherbet can't even give or receive affection from his long time best friend when he's injured without Fahlan being mad. This show drove me crazy!! (The side couple was cute, though.)
First Love Again (Korean BL) Final rating: 7/10 Cute but nothing special. The chemistry is okay, but nothing amazing. The story, however, is cute and the tension between the two characters is believable. Imagine waiting thousands of years for your one true love and then they're nothing like you've expected them to be? And imagine having to live up to the expectations of someone who's been waiting for you for that long? Let's just say, my headcanons were epic.
Fukou-kun wa Kiss Suru Shikanai! / Unlucky-kun Has No Choice but to Kiss! (Japanese BL)
Final rating: 7.5/10 Is it silly? Yes. Is one of the characters basically using the other for his personal gain? Yes. Is it still cute somehow and worth watching? Also yes.
Ghost Host, Ghost House (Thai BL)
Final rating: 8/10 This show pleasantly surprised me. I figured it'd be a ghost story with some comedy and basic chemistry, but it ended up being kind of heart wrenching with a great main pairing. These two have amazing chemistry and the attraction jumped through the screen. The story itself is also pretty good and interesting. If you're not watching for the chemistry between the main leads, then watch it for that. (It's not as scary as it promises to be, btw. The ghosts are generally good people.)
Hard Love Mission (Thai BL)
Final rating: 5.5 Look, I liked the actor playing Yoshi. He tried his best and was cute. That's about it. I can't even headcanon with this show because everything was just...lackluster or downright terrible. Ridiculous plot with sudden villains and next to no chemistry between the main pairing. I liked one actor and that was it. Sorry.
Kimi no Koto Dake Mite Itai / I Want to See Only You (Japanese BL)
Final rating: 7/10 Very cute show with pretty cinematography. It's short, which is both its advantage and disadvantage. Things aren't hugely fleshed out, but it's sweet and relatable and feels like your first (summer) love. Like the first time you looked at someone and felt butterflies.
KinnPorsche (Thai BL)
Final rating: 10/10 I might as well just link this post where I talked about it.
Kissable Lips (Korean BL)
Final rating: 6.5/10 This just wasn't my show. All the things I liked - the chemistry between the characters and the two main actors' performances - I got (and better) in the second show they did together. Vampires just aren't my thing, I guess.
Love Class (Korean BL)
Final rating: 8/10 I could have done without the main character's obnoxious friend, but other than that this show was fun and I'll probably give it a rewatch soon.
Love in the Air (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7/10 This show is...questionable. Both relationships have fairly toxic beginnings - one starts out through subterfuge and repeatedly ignoring 'no' while the other is just built on not taking no for an answer - but do end up with clearly mutual attraction. If you can ignore the part where both of the older characters completely refuse to take their future boyfriend's word at face value, it does end up quite cute and with some very nice, steamy scenes. I just...had a hard time doing that. The rating is based purely on the chemistry between the actors and not at all on the story being told or the characters.
Love Like the Galaxy: Part 1 & Love Like the Galaxy: Part 2 (Chinese Drama)
Final rating: 7.0/10 & 7.5/10
I was super excited about this show when I first started watching it, because it has my probably favourite actress - Zhao LuSi - in it with an actor whom I really enjoyed in The Long Ballad. And the storyline did seem very promising going in. However, I sadly didn't end up liking it as much as I thought I would. The main female character is fun, but at times she's also a total bitch and gets away with way too much. (All the important, good characters immediately love her even though she's everything a girl in those times would be expected not to be.) And the male character is just...boring. He isn't even near her for huge parts of the story and their chemistry disappointed me. I thought she matched much better with the actor playing Luo Yao. (Whose character I also liked better. He seemed a much better match.) So, yeah, fun show but not as good as I expected it to be.
Love Mechanics (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7.5/10 This is another show that has a toxic relationship as the main focus. However, the difference is that it being toxic is part of the story. We know that Vee is an asshole to both Mark and his girlfriend. (Of course, his girlfriend also ends up cheating on him to offset this. Convenient!) That's something he has to work on throughout the series to eventually win Mark over. Had I been Mark I would have dumped his ass ages ago, though. The chemistry between the two leads is obvious and carries most of the show.
Love Stage!! (Thai BL)
Final rating: 6.5/10
A cute story, but there's not really much to it. Both leads are very pretty, though, and they did have decent chemistry once things actually started happening. Minato Shouji Coin Laundry (Japanese BL)
Final rating: 9/10 Look, as a grown up and a teacher do I approve of student/teacher relationships where one is a grown ass man and the other a teenager? Absolutely not. Does this show tell a great story and did I enjoy it? Yup. Because it's a fictional story, I was able to get over that and ended up really enjoying the tension and angst and the eventual happy ending. But had this been real life...no way in hell.
Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities (Chinese Drama)
Final rating: 8/10 It's been a while since I saw this show, but from what I remember I was really into it while watching it and for a few months after. The main female lead is a lot of fun and not as obnoxious as a lot of cdrama leads tend to be. Fun, action filled, pretty to look at show with good actors and great characters.
My Only 12% (Thai BL)
Final rating: 9.5/10 This show was made for me. Had the characters been a bit older and not teenagers, this would have been 10/10. Best friends who eventually realize - through a bunch of angsty, painful, beautiful episodes - that they love each other is my aphrodisiac. I love that shit. This show actually made me cry both sad and happy tears. It's comfortable, loving, gorgeous, painful, and heartwarming all at once. Earth and Santa work so, so well together and I actually liked them a lot more than I thought I would.
My Ride (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7/10 This is one of those shows that I kind of didn't care for the first time I watched it, but then liked it a whole lot more the second time around. It has a very likeable main character and the other main character actually being into someone else for the longest time was rather interesting. Plus, older queer character representation!!
My Secret Love (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7.5/10
This show is a little messy and the plotline goes back and forth a little, but it is cute and it has some great secondary pairings. I was especially into Tim/Mai for the longest time - they took the longest to develop and had the most angst, okay, I'm a sucker for that - and still have active headcanons for those two.
My Tooth Your Love (Taiwanese BL)
Final rating: 7.5/10 This is a really good show. I don't have it rated that high because I didn't completely feel the main pairing, but that doesn't take away from that it's a good show and there is a lot of chemistry. Also, like many shows the secondary pairing was fascinating and I wish it'd gotten more of a conclusion.
Not Me (Thai BL)
Final rating: 8.5/10 Not Me has become a BL staple and rightly so. It's a very good story with some amazing characters and it deserves to be considered one of the best and most popular BLs in recent years. And Gun deserves so many accolades for how distinct the two characters he plays are. The only reason that it's not rated higher for me is that I was one of the few people who wasn't hugely into the secondary pairing.
Ocean Likes Me (Korean BL)
Final rating: 6.5/10 Was it cute? Sure. Did I feel the chemistry? Not really. I love Holland and really liked his co-star in other shows I've watched, but I wasn't 100% convinced on this one. I also thought the storyline was on the weak side. Pretty shots of the sea (Ocean?), though!
Oh! Boarding House (Korean BL)
Final rating: 6.5/10 I may have to rewatch this show, because I only have vague memories of it. To the point where I sometimes come across videos on youtube that have characters from it in them and go 'oh, hey, that show seems interesting. how have I never seen that be- wait, it's oh boarding house...'
Oh! My Assistant (Korean BL)
Final rating: 7.5/10 A little weird, but cute. One of the main characters has the personality of a houseplant, but I think that's kind of the point? He's still very pretty, I guess. It's short but sweet.
Oh! My Sunshine Night (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7/10 This show broke me. It had so, so much potential and I was so invested in it for about half of the show and then it turned into murder plots and helicopters and completely abandoned what it had initially been about. Look, this show was supposed to be about Ohm and Fluke being tragic and sad because Fluke's characters had a heart condition, but in the end his heart problems didn't even matter to the story at all. I was so mad at the end, because I'd been so excited about everything - especially the secondary pairing - but everything they'd set up got thrown aside for literal murder and subterfuge. The rating is purely for the side pairing and the potential the show had. If you can ignore the last bunch of episodes and just headcanon what a normal show would have done, you're good.
Old Fashion Cupcake (Japanese BL)
Final rating: 10/10 One of the few shows that I've given 10/10 to. As an older queer person, this show resonated with me a lot. It's about older people realizing they are still able to fall in love and discover things about themselves. Alongside that it's a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing tale of cupcakes and adoration. It takes short but sweet to an entirely new level. Please watch it. (Also, Togawa is unreasonably pretty.)
Paint with Love (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7.5/10 I actually really liked the main pairing. They were different, but that made them fun. It's also really funny that I watched this before I knew who most of these actors were. Looking back I'm going 'wait, Tae? Yoon? YACHT??!' It's also kind of an office romance show, which is currently all the rage. Ahead of its time, I suppose.
Plus & Minus (Taiwanese BL)
Final rating: 8/10 The kind of suffering and pining that LiGong does throughout most of this show is exactly the kind of thing I live for. Like I've said several times before, best friends who come to realizations is my jam and one of them pining for the other for decades is right up my alley. My interest kind of tapered off towards the end and the secondary pairing was a little weak - Yuki is pretty but... - but it's still a really good show.
Roommates of Poongduck 304 (Korean BL) Final rating: 9/10
This is what happens when you give the Kissable Lips boys a better story and it's a blessing. The tension between the two main characters is fun, the arguing amusing, and the chemistry is just undeniable.
JiWoong and SeoBin are so good together and I'm trying very hard to be happy for JiWoong and not sad that we'll deprived of this pairing now for a long time if not forever.
Secret Crush on You (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7.5/10 SCOY is a bit of an acquired taste. It took me two tries to get past the first few episodes - look, I'm not into people falling for their creepy stalkers and Toh breaks a lot of boundaries that never should have been broken - but once you get into the meat of it it's a charming show with amazing chemistry between the pairings. Nuea/Toh is one of the few pairings that actually feel like they'd bone in public if common decency wasn't an issue. I think it's the sounds and the grinding, to be honest. Also, Sky is a green flag kind of character before that kind of thing was cool. Sky/Jao forever.
Semantic Error (Korean BL)
Final rating: 10/10 One of my 10/10 BLs. Even if you've only seen a few BLs I'm sure you've come across this one. It was even famous in non-BL circles in Korea and it made both of the actors verified superstars. The story is one of contrasting personalities clashing until they eventually realize that they actually work really well together. It's blue versus red. Reason versus emotion. Calmness versus passion. Just watch it. You won't regret it.
Senpai, Danjite Koidewa! / Senpai, I'm in Love! (Japanese BL)
Final rating: 7/10
Not my favourite Japanese BL, but that doesn't mean it's not good. It's an office drama and very cute. It takes a while to show the chemistry between the two leads, but once it does it's pretty good. And the main character is just adorable.
Shining Just for You (Chinese Drama)
Final rating: 7/10 I watched this solely for Peng Xiao Ran, whom I loved in Goodbye My Princess. She's great in this too! I'm not hugely sold on the male lead, but the story and Xiao Ran's performance are good enough to have made it an enjoyable watch regardless. It has some similarities to GMP actually, as it starts out in similar settings. Not nearly as heartbreaking, though!
Sword Snow Stride (Chinese Drama)
Final rating: 8.5/10 This show had such a pretty first episode that I ended up drawing three watercolour pieces for it before I even hit episode three. I knew Zhang Ruo Yun from several previous shows, so I knew he'd be good and I thought the story overall was a lot of fun and was super pretty to watch. Some of the characters - especially the female ones - were badass. I thought the romance aspect was weak, though.
Something in My Room (Thai BL)
Final rating: 8.5/10 When I watched this it was mere months before watching an influx of ghost related shows and this still remains one of the better ones. It's interesting, the characters work well together, and parts of it were painful. I like my shows to hurt a little sometimes.
Star and Sky: Sky in Your Heart (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7/10 This show was always going to have a tough time ending up as one of my faves because it reminded me too much of A Tale of Thousand Stars and it was never going to beat that. So, it started out on the back foot. However, much like ATOTS it did have beautiful scenery and I wasn't averse to the story being told. Very similar, but still cute. I'd be interested to see if this pairing could do well with a different setting.
Star and Sky: Star in My Mind (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7/10 Much like the other Star and Sky episode, this show was fighting immense odds. School related shows are plenty and some have been way better made than this one. However, I don't dislike it as much as some people seem to do and actually think the main pairing is very cute together. Frustrating sometimes, but cute. Also, after watching their Our Skyy 2 episode I now need Typhoon/Maitee to happen.
Takara-kun to Amagi-kun (Japanese BL)
Final rating: 8.5/10
This is such a soft, pure show. It just exudes first love.
It's very pretty to look at at times and the characters are just adorable together. The ice prince who's been crushing on the innocent dork has kind of become a BL staple, but it works so well here. It's just cute, okay, much like My School President is cute. And soft. And adorable.
The Autumn Ballad (Chinese Drama)
Final rating: 7.5/10
I don't remember much about this show, which is surprising to me because it has two of my favourite male actors in it. I do remember it was pretty and that the two leads were entertaining together, but other than that...?
The Blue Whisper: Part 1 & The Blue Whisper: Part 2 (Chinese Drama)
Final rating: 8.5/10 & 8.5/10
Any show that has Dilraba in it is guaranteed to do well. That's just a given. This show is no exception. It has some amazing worldbuilding and a great, powerful main character with equally great supporting characters. Hell, one of them even circumvents the 'rival turns evil' trope and makes actual, sensible decisions. Good on you, Hao Qing! Very pretty show that will make you root for the main pairing. Might seem long due to two seasons, but at 42 episodes combined that's less than your average (single season) cdrama. The Eclipse (Thai BL)
Final rating: 8.5/10
The Eclipse is one of the most popular BLs released recently and proved First/Khaotung to be an excellent pairing. And it's deserved, because the show is great and the two actors have a lot of fun chemistry. My only gripe with this show is the ending. Having the perpetrators all be queer characters while the story is supposed to be about how oppressive regimes/governments/etc are and how they hurt those very same people just doesn't sit right with me. Like, all the people responsible for the curse were gay. And they were oppressing the out queer characters and putting them in actual danger. Really? That's what we're going with? The Love of Winter (Thai BL)
Final rating: 5.5/10 I...remember nothing about this show. Which makes sense, as it's only 2 episodes. Whoops? The Tuxedo (Thai BL)
Final rating: 6.5/10 I know a lot of people dislike this show, but I didn't think it was actually that bad. Okay, I didn't give it a high rating, but it had a unique concept and I actually liked the way the characters developed. (And this is coming from someone who loathes 'he got better through the power of love' scenarios.) Not earth shattering, but still cute. Till the World Ends (Thai BL)
Final rating: 6.5/10
Just...not really my show. The storyline was all over the place and one of the main characters was just completely unlikable for most of it. Like, actively lying to his love interest, whom he pretty much got killed. And that's not even including the time he hit him over the head so hard that he ended up with amnesia. I like Art as an actor, though?
To My Star Season 2: Our Untold Stories (Korean BL)
Final rating: 8/10 It's like this show knows that I don't enjoy established relationships, so they broke them up and went through the pain of bringing them (back) together all over again. And I loved it. Was it painful and tragic and frustrating? Yes. But that's what I loved about it. Because in the end they suffered through all of that because they need each other.
To Sir, With Love (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7/10 I have a weird relationship with this show, because on the one hand I love the relationship Tian and Jiu and I loved Tian's brother, but apart from that I had absolutely no interest in the storyline or the other characters. Like, it wasn't fun to me somehow and so I spent half of the series just fastforwarding to the good bits. And, no, that did not include magic mushrooms. I know a lot of people loved it, though, and I can see why. It just...wasn't for me. Only that amazing relationship. Hell, those amazing relationships because the love between Tian and his brother was just as deep and important. Triage (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7.5/10 My issue with Triage isn't that it's not a good show with an original plot and good acting, because it's all of those things and I did really enjoy it, but that I didn't think the chemistry - which is there plenty, don't get me wrong - is realistic when it comes to two characters who basically meet for the first time every single day. At least from Tol's point of view the first time around and then the doctor the second. And initially Dr. Tin falls for someone who only ever gets introduced to him and has only known him for a day, basically. Like, how do you fall in love with someone who doesn't know you at all? Who will treat you like a stranger every time you meet him? My brain just...wasn't dealing with that. Still a really good show, though! Unforgotten Night (Thai BL) Final rating: 5/10 Oh, Unforgotten Night... What a mess you were. Supposedly dark and gritty, but in reality just silly and repetitive and throwing away any and all potential. I like Yoon, but I don't think he was right for this. Though I do think he and Ton work well together. The only thing I was really interested in at the end of this show was the relationship between the bodyguard and Baiboom. Which, in true tragic BL fashion, they did nothing with and it had no resolution. Truly cursed. Vice Versa (Thai BL) Final rating: 7.5/10 A really good show with an interesting premise and great main characters. I don't know, it's just a good show. It doesn't really hit my favourite tropes - there could have been more angst about not knowing what the other looks like, etc - and I still don't get why Puen didn't tell Talay who he was, but still a really good show.
War of Y (Thai BL) Final rating: 6.5/10 This show is tricky, because it was basically a collections of shows. Some I was really invested in - well, one, maybe two, I was really invested in - and the others I just...watched because I could. Billy and Seng have such amazing chemistry that I enjoyed the first one quite a bit, but after that it got to be less and less. It also became repetitive. Everything was about 'this thing bad for everyone involved, but the love is real guys!' (Not to mention the contradiction of making a show about how the very shows they're creating are bad and shouldn't be supported while wanting fans to support you.) So, yeah, this show is weird to judge. What Zabb Man! (Thai BL) Final rating: 6.5/10 One of those shows where I find nothing really wrong with it, but I also wasn't invested in it. I was most into the side couple, honestly. I'd like to see those two in more shows together. Who Rules the World (Chinese Drama)
Final rating: 9/10 Look, if you put Zhao LuSi in a show I will watch it and if you add YangYang, an amazing story, and an equally amazing world to it? With a badass main female character? Then I'm sold regardless of what happens. This is one of those shows I'd recommend because it's just so much fun and has some great characters with a compelling, entertaining story. Why You… Y Me? (Thai BL) Final rating: 7/10 I primarily watched this because there was such an uproar about Shogun and Maito on tumblr and I get why. I do. They're cute. But in the end my angsty brain just felt bad for Green. Idk, I'm weird. You're My Sky (Thai BL)
Final rating: 7.5/10 I've seen people talk bad about this show, but I don't really get it. Yes, it's not ground breaking and there is some repetitiveness in the issues they deal with, but overall it had three pairings that I really enjoyed and that were different enough to keep things interesting. It was cute.

The 2021 Destiel Favs Survey!
The December, 2020 edition of the Destiel Fan Favorites Survey is now completed! I got 340 submissions, the most I’ve received since the first time I did the survey in 2017 (this is the fifth time). Since the inception of the survey, I’ve received 1372 surveys, reflecting the tastes of those in the fandom at the time they did the survey and completed especially with an eye toward highlighting excellent lesser-known works.
On the latest survey, 336 different authors were listed as favorites! 165 of these authors were added to the list for the first time. Across all five times I’ve given this survey, 700 authors (on the nose!) have been listed as favorites. You can view a list of all those authors, and links to their accounts, here!
On this survey, an astonishing 1,448 stories received a vote!! The majority - 891 works - were added to the collection for the first time, which is absolutely thrilling to me. 253 of the authors of these works had never been listed before, and now know - they’re someone’s favorite. How awesome is that?
Since the inception of this survey, 3,544 stories by 1,365 different authors have been named as someone’s favorite. All of these works are assembled in a collection that you can view on AO3 here! (works that aren’t on AO3 are bookmarked, as are the works of author’s who chose not to accept the invite to the collection; 210 invites are still pending from the 2021 survey; if authors don’t add their works by next weekend, I’ll bookmark them). Alternatively, you can view a list of every work in the collection, and a link to access the work if it’s still available online, here!
By far, the best way to navigate the collection is to go to the AO3 Collection and use the tags searches and filters to find works that appeal to you. That said, I know some people are curious about results. It’s outside my ability to make lists that include every work, and so I do in general compile some of the data and share those who got the “top” results (not in a ranking, only in alphabetical order). If you’re interested, keep reading...

if you are having trouble seeing the links on this post, please access it on pillowfort here: https://www.pillowfort.social/posts/1967244
In the past, I've done an annotated "Top 20 Authors" list, where I list (in alphabetical, not ranked) order the authors who received the most votes and every work they have in the collection. I will not be doing that this year. I'll give the top 20 list, but not list all their fics - it's too much, and too many of these authors are the same as previous years. The goal of the Collection is and always has been to highlight the works of authors who don't get as much love and aren't as well known, and I've come to feel the Top 20 list doesn't serve that goal effectively. As such, I will instead be doing a "Rookies of the Year" list, listing 10 authors who have not been on the top 20 list previously, and a "Top New Stories" list, with the 10 most popular stories added to the collection this year.
You can see the past top lists at these links:
January, 2020
June, 2018
March, 2017
I also have done a number of rec lists based on the data, but not since the last two surveys (the collection has grown too big, and I don’t have time any longer). These are also all available on pillowfort.
All lists are in alphabetical order! These are not rankings!
Rookies of the Year! A list ten authors who’ve scored highly for the first time on the survey, and every work they’ve written that received at least one vote in the survey!

just for a day
summary: What’s a little acting between friends? If friends was even the right word.
word count: (idk yet man lol ) 3,373
request: Hello! I just wanna say your writing is absolutely amazing! If I may, could I request an 11 x reader where the reader’s friends keep bugging them to get a boyfriend, but they say they already do and they have to ask the Doctor to be their “boyfriend” (kind of like with Clara at the beginning of Time Of The Doctor) and eventually leads to feelings being spilt? If not, that’s perfectly fine!
a/n: this got WAYYY too long and for that i am so sorry lmao. i’m writing and posting this on the same day so if there are many mistakes or it doesn’t make sense that’s on me. anyway, i hope you enjoy this fic!

“You’re back!”
You’d expected screaming. You’d expected yelling, and a fair dose of pterodactyl-esque screeching from the students in your advisory class, but what you weren’t expecting was crying. And lots of it. Nearly every fresh-faced elementary student was in tears, some sobbing quietly and some full-on bawling as soon as you walked through the door.
It was nice, cute even, but honestly a little disconcerting.
“Hi, everyone,” you said, shutting the door carefully behind you. The sight of their crying faces immediately activated your Parent Mode. “Are you all okay?”
“Perfectly fine!” Marih chirped, president of the class and therefore a little more levelheaded than the rest, which earned her a handful of disagreeing sighs. “What? Guys, you look ridiculous crying,” she continued, as she wiped her cheeks with the back of her palms and gave you a toothy grin. “We’re just happy you’re here again.”
You smiled at her, and reached out to pat the top of her head. “That’s great and all, but it’s like you guys haven’t seen me in ages.”
A heavy silence fell over the whole class. You saw students shift in their seats and look down at the floor, suddenly very interested in their black school shoes. Even Jaden, the class’s resident troublemaker, didn’t say a word. Marih cringed, ran a hand through her long dark hair, and smoothed the front of her checkered uniform.
“How long have I been gone?” you asked, raising an eyebrow. Marih seemed to cringe away at the question. “I thought I was only travelling for a week!”
“Actually,” Marih said, stretching out the word, “you’ve been gone for three months?”
Your mouth fell open. You stared at her for a moment, dumbfounded, before you dug into your pocket and fished out your phone – she was right, it had been exactly three months and a week since you’d left the school to go travelling.
You groaned. “Oh, I’m going to kill him.”
By travelling, you meant time travelling and by him you meant the Doctor. The madman in a box that you’d run off with. You had let him turn your life upside down in the best way possible since he dragged you into the TARDIS, with his stupidly gorgeous smile and eyes and – you were getting off topic. Now you were plotting the murder of the man that you would consider to be the most incredible thing that had ever happened to you.
“Hey, ma’am?” came a soft voice from the front of the room. Karyll, with her tied-back hair and glasses, looked up at you from her seat. “Why are you looking like you’re going to kill someone?”
“’Cause I am,” you said cheerily, shoving your phone back into your pocket. Oh, you were going to have words with him, and they would most definitely not be nice ones. “Have I missed anything big? Were you nice to my substitute?”
A collective wave of disagreement swept over the class, and you couldn’t help but let a smile slip onto your face. These were your babies after all, and if you’d really been gone for three months then they were sorely missing their Second Mom.
Maybe the tears weren’t that much of a surprise after all.
“Okay, good morning everyone! Now, if we’re still on schedule, and I really hope we are, we should be talking about integers…”
The late afternoon sun drifted through the curtains of your classroom, filling the room with an almost hazy glow as you sat with your best friends in a haphazard circle of desks. Your kids had all gone home already, and a little pile of flowers and chocolates sat neatly on your shelves, right beside your lesson plan folders.
Denise leaned forward to look at them, her curly hair falling over her face. She was the elementary students’ science teacher, and was so well-organized it was almost inhuman. She would have liked the planet where everything was arranged alphabetically, you thought.
“I’m jealous, my students never give me gifts,” she said as she leaned away. “Sis, where have you even been?”
“Long story,” you replied, and it was. You weren’t sure if you could fit everything you’d been through – travelling through time, going to planets lightyears away, and of course all of the near-death experiences – into a story that you could tell in under an hour, and you weren’t going to try.
“And you’ve been travelling? By yourself?” Julianne, an arts teacher, raised her eyebrows at you from behind her laptop. “God, that’s lonely. Oh – unless…” Her calm expression morphed into something truly evil in your line of work – mischievousness. “Unless you had someone with you.”
“I mean –” Oh no, this was going to be hard to get out of. “I mean, I wasn’t alone,” you said, hoping the smile on your face was enough to mask your utter fear. You knew exactly where Julianne was going and you hated it. “I was with someone.”
“Ooh,” Julianne said, her grin growing so sly it was sending shivers up your spine. “You’ve been gone three months, has anything happened between you and your travel buddy?”
Heat rushed to your face. If you were a cartoon character steam would be pouring from your ears. “Why would you say something like that?”
Julianne shrugged. “We’ve been telling you to get a boyfriend for so long. You said you’d be gone a week, and then you disappear for three months… that kinda says something, don’t you think, Denise?”
“Definitely.” Denise grinned, and you shot her a helpless look.
“We’re doing this because we love you,” Julianne sang. The light from her laptop was enough to make her look absolutely menacing. “So? Travel buddy? Or more than that?”
The Doctor wasn’t just a travel buddy, and he was so much more than that – but you hadn’t found the words for what he meant to you, at least not yet. Companion was enough for you and him, but even then, there was a weight to that word. And there was definitely a weight to your partnership, but you wouldn’t call it… dating.
Julianne simply waggled her perfectly shaped eyebrows at you. You swallowed. You and the Doctor were a long story too, and Julianne wasn’t going to be happy with “maybe” for an answer.
The words were out of your mouth before you could stop yourself. “Fine, he’s my boyfriend!”
I want to crawl into a hole and die was your inner monologue, and your background music was Julianne and Denise’s raucous laughter. I want to crawl into a hole and never have to face the world ever again.
--
Smash cut to you, standing nervously in your bedroom, gripping your phone so tightly you were sure it was going to break. Your plans of killing the Doctor for dropping you off late would have to wait. The phone rung once, twice, and you chewed your lip. If he was in the Time Vortex, any version of him could answer the phone and you couldn’t deal with that on top of everything, not today at least –
“Hello?”
You heaved a sigh of relief at the sound of the Doctor, your Doctor’s voice. “Help?” you squeaked out.
“Help?” the Doctor repeated. There was a blaring noise, and then the sound of electricity crackling. Something fizzled and popped, and the Doctor shouted something that sounded like a swear. “Oh, shut it – you – sorry, sorry. You were saying?”
“Uh, where are you right now? Are you somewhere?” you asked.
“I’m not somewhere, I’m drifting! Right above Earth, approximately right where you are,” he said. You could hear the smile in his voice. It quelled your anxiety somewhat. “I’m doing maintenance. Agh – ow! I think I can see the roof of your house through the clouds, unless that’s someone else’s house. What color is your roof?”
You giggled. “It’s brown. You’re in the same time as me?”
“’Course I am,” the Doctor said. You heard the clanging sound of metal being dropped. “I never left.”
The Doctor liked to run off on his own when you were home and have his own mini-adventures. He liked to come back and say he’d spent his time with alien royalty, or something like that. But instead he was staying put, he was waiting, for you. It made the next part so much harder.
“I need you to be my boyfriend,” you said quickly, covering your burning face with your free hand.
“Oh,” the Doctor said simply. Another clang.
Oh? “Just for a day,” you coughed. “I kind of said that I had a boyfriend, and that he was my travel buddy, and now my friends kind of want to meet you. It’s my grade’s family day tomorrow, maybe you could, uh, show up?”
“And be your boyfriend,” the Doctor said.
You nodded, then, “And be my boyfriend. Just for the day. You never have to show up again.”
There was a beat of silence, and for a second you thought the Doctor was going to say no – he had every right to, of course, and you could just lie and say that he couldn’t show up – but the Doctor laughed, cheerful and warm. “Ding-dong! Okay! What time tomorrow? I have to study, I’m a bit rusty in places.”
Your mouth fell open for the second time in twenty-four hours. “You’re serious?”
“Very! Any pet name preferences?”
You groaned loudly, and the Doctor laughed again. “Shut up!”
“Alright, alright. Guess I’ll have to do my own research.”
There was another moment of silence, and when the Doctor spoke again, it was much softer, much less playful. His voice almost sounded fond. “Goodnight?”
“Goodnight, Doctor,” you said softly, and the call cut off with a series of short beeps.
--
Was it a surprise that you barely slept at all? You had spent the whole night with your imagination running at full capacity, your mind latching onto every single thought and concept it could come up with. You slipped in and out of sleep, lying still in bed whenever a possibility popped into your head. To say you were nervous was the understatement of the year – but what was a little acting between friends?
If friends was the right word for it.
You waited for the Doctor behind the school, leaning against the concrete wall and watching the TARDIS fade into this plane. Wind blew into your face as the TARDIS groaned and wheezed, eventually materializing in front of you.
“I’m not late, am I?” the Doctor said, sticking his head out of the TARDIS doors. He grinned widely, his hair falling into his face. You grinned back at him and pushed yourself off the wall.
“You’re early, which is a first,” you said. The Doctor frowned at you, stepped carefully out of the TARDIS, and frowned some more. “Don’t look at me like that.”
“I think I’ve earned the right to look at you however I’d like,” the Doctor huffed, adjusting his bowtie. He’d ditched the tweed for the day, it seemed, going with a long green coat that annoyingly complimented his eyes. The frown didn’t last very long, though, because he went right back to grinning brightly at you. He held out his elbow in your direction. “Shall we?”
“Here’s the lucky girl,” Julianne cooed as you walked into the empty canteen. All the tables were pushed aside to make space for all the games you’d be playing – in the corner of your eye, you saw the Doctor light up at the sight of all of the streamers and balloons. “And here’s the lucky boy – oh my god, Denise.”
“What?” Denise popped up from behind a large speaker, then blanched. “Oh, now I’m double jealous.”
The Doctor pulled away from you to lightly kiss both of Julianne’s cheeks in greeting. Julianne looked positively starstruck when he stepped back to stand beside you, quickly waving Denise over. Denise had her mouth hanging open, still clutching a microphone in her hands.
“Hi,” you said, gesturing at the Doctor, “here’s my boyfriend.”
The Doctor raised his hand and smiled. “Hello! I’m John Smith, lovely to meet you both. You’re my girlfriend’s girl friends, I assume?”
“Uh –” Denise blinked owlishly. “Yeah, we are.” Then, quietly and to herself, “Holy moly.”
You couldn’t help but grin at their flabbergasted faces. The Doctor rested his hand on the small of your back, and you leaned into his touch as if it was the most normal thing in the universe. That was enough to make Denise stumble into Julianne, who barely even reacted, as she was still staring wide-eyed at the both of you.
“I think we caught them off guard,” you said. The Doctor chuckled and leaned down to kiss the top of your head.
“You did when we met, sweetheart,” the Doctor said smoothly. Sweetheart echoed in your ears and bounced off the walls of your already racing mind. Your heart stuttered in your chest. That was bad.
“Oh, are we doing charm now?” you asked. “Are you trying to be charming?”
“I did say I would study,” the Doctor said.
“You guys are insufferable,” Denise said, but she was beaming at you. “If you could get your hands off of your travel buddy for just a few minutes, I need help with the mics, the families are gonna be here any minute…”
Her voice trailed off as she walked back to the speaker. You stood on your tiptoes to kiss the Doctor’s cheek, feeling his skin heat up underneath your lips. “See you later.”
“…See you,” the Doctor echoed, and bent down to kiss your cheek too. He turned on his heel and walked towards the decorations, softly muttering, “Ooh, balloons! Love a good balloon…”
You stared at him for longer than you should have, watching him poke and prod at the balloons lying on the tables. He put his face very close to one and smiled at his reflection in the plastic. Affection welled up in your chest, and a tiny smile slipped onto your face.
“Look at you, you’re smiling at him,” Julianne chimed, sidling up to you and nudging your side. “That’s disgusting.”
“Says the girl who said I needed to get a boyfriend,” you shot back.
The Doctor went still for a little bit and turned to face you, smiled and winked, then went right back to inspecting balloons. Julianne made a strangled noise, and you made one too. So he was doing charm, and you hated to admit that it was absolutely working on you.
“I meant to say disgustingly adorable,” Julianne said. “You’re so lucky.”
You gave him another glance as you walked away to help Denise with the mics – “help with the mics” was apparently code for “I’m going to tease you more about your new boyfriend” which wasn’t helped by the fact that every so often, the Doctor would look in your direction and just smile, which was enough to make you stumble over your own words and give Denise more teasing fodder.
The parents and their kids eventually filed into the canteen and you flipped into Teacher Mode. You stood next to your students, pinched their cheeks and then greeted all of the parents and got everyone ready for the program. (You didn’t notice how the Doctor mirrored you, standing a little far away and watching, a dumb smile on his face.)
Julianne and Denise were the emcees for the family day, big smiles on their faces as they rounded up everyone for the games. At the mere mention of games, the Doctor was back at your side at an instant, his eyes glittering with excitement.
“Please don’t destroy the kids,” you pleaded.
“No promises,” he replied, and then proceeded to destroy the kids in most of the games.
The first game had Julianne call out for whoever could bring an item of her choice to the table – the Doctor, with his coat that was surely bigger on the inside, had no trouble pulling out whatever was asked. Even when Julianne started to test the waters and ask for increasingly insane items, the Doctor just kept going. He jumped in joy like a little kid at the win, bounding up to you and pressing a kiss to your cheek. You’d just blushed and smiled, ignoring the butterflies that were multiplying in your stomach.
The Doctor holding your hand wasn’t new. The Doctor being close to you wasn’t new. The Doctor being affectionate with you wasn’t new. But now it was all under the guise of being your boyfriend. Of course it felt different, but to your surprise and growing horror, it didn’t feel bad.
The Doctor shouting your name snapped you out of your thoughts. He was standing on a piece of newspaper as Denise started to get music ready, waving his arms to beckon you over. His coat was gone, thrown onto a nearby table, and even without it he was dashing.
“I need you over here!” he yelled, still jumping excitedly. His hair bounced up and down with the movement. “I need a partner!”
You let your feet carry you to him, trying to ignore the stares pointed your way. The Doctor took your hand in his and pulled you onto the newspaper.
“Stay close,” the Doctor said. “I’ve got this.”
Loud, thumping music filled the air. The Doctor spun you around and you squealed in surprise, moving your feet clumsily to the music. Suddenly, it stopped, and the Doctor pulled you back onto the newspaper. It was a tight fit, and you had to press yourself against his body to even stay standing. The butterflies in your stomach went crazy at the contact, and once again you tried to ignore that, too.
“What did I say?” the Doctor breathed, his breath tickling your ear, his smile wide and manic. “Let’s dance!”
The paper got smaller and smaller, and the two of you got closer and closer. Sweat started to bead on your forehead, and the Doctor had rolled his sleeves up in the middle of all the chaos. In the end, it was just you and another pair of parents, tiptoeing on their own folded pieces of newspaper.
“I’ve got an idea,” the Doctor said, his voice loud over the music. “When the music stops, jump into my arms.”
“Seriously?!” you shouted, and the Doctor nodded enthusiastically. “You’ve got the balance of a drunk giraffe! You’ll drop me!”
“Do you trust me?” the Doctor asked.
There wasn’t any question. “I do!”
“Then jump!”
The music stopped, and in the split second where the Doctor stepped onto the now-tiny folded newspaper, you ran and leapt. For a moment, it seemed like he wouldn’t be able to catch you at all, and in your mind you could already see it – you crashing into him and sending you both tumbling to the floor.
The Doctor’s arms shot out and caught you. Cheers erupted from everyone in the canteen, and behind you your competitors both lost their balance and fell face-first onto the floor. You wrapped your arms around the Doctor’s neck to steady yourself in his arms, feeling him shake slightly as he kept you aloft.
“We won!” you gasped, still basking in all of the cheering. “As expected from my lovely boyfriend.”
The words left your mouth as easily as breathing. You smiled up at the Doctor, breathless from all of the dancing. His skin shone with sweat, his hair was a mess, and his bowtie was askew, but even that was enough to make you throw all caution to the wind – still in his arms, you pulled him down and kissed him.
Cheers erupted from everyone again, but you could care less. The room could be empty and nothing would have changed. As cliché as it sounded, all the mattered was the feeling of the Doctor’s lips against yours. Your hands found their way into his hair and he melted into your touch, pulling you closer to him.
“You know,” the Doctor breathed as he pulled away, “I don’t want this to be just for a day.”
“Good,” you replied. You leaned up to press a chaste kiss to the corner of his mouth. “Because I don’t either.”

DAY 4462
Jalsa, Mumbai May 25/26, 2020 Mon/Tue 9:16 AM
Birthday - EF Rasika Shashikant .. Jaspreet Singh .. Tuesday, May 26 .. love and the joys of celebration for the birthday .. happiness ever .. from the entire Ef ..🌹🌹
Oye .. have you written the Blog .. no not yet .. why .. was busy doing something else .. like what .. err , was watching an inspiring series .. ya so .. so in the middle of it .. yes .. in the middle of it I dozed off .. you dozed off in the middle .. yaa .. so it couldn't have been very interesting .. no no it was , but .. but what .. but , I don’t know , just dozed off .. so .. so because it was interesting I felt I had missed out during those portions when I was .. was what .. err , dozing .. ya so .. so i .. yes go on .. so i rewound and tried to catch what I had missed ..
are you mad !! I mean who does that .. sorry just happened .. such a convenient word .. sorry .. ok I heard you .. thanks .. what thanks , get up and write the ruddy blog .. ayee , don’t call it ‘ruddy’ yaar , its very pure for me .. yes i understand but i was not ’ruddying’ the blog , i was just - its a way of speaking .. ok ok am going .. good .. get on with it , its almost 10 am of the next day ..
Essentials done .. open the curtains put off the conditioning , get the gear on for the gym .. light the ‘agar batties’ and the ‘dhoop’ circulate them to the various areas of the surrounding .. get the smell of the divine .. the joss sticks ever do that .. never ever tried to find out why they be called ‘joss’ .. why cannot the original Indian name be an accepted name world wide .. its an issue with me .. every time we describe something in the Indian name or pronounce, there is the immediate demand of ‘whats it called in English’ or in the language of the Country it is being spoken in ..
are bhaiya .. agar batti agar batti hai .. aap use agar batti hi kahiye .. ok ;;;;
अरे भैया , अगर बत्ती अगर बत्ती है , आप उसे अगर बत्ती ही कहिए ,, ठीक है !
Alright done with that little regional patriotic formality .. getting on ..
Found out where and how it be called ‘joss’ .. its pidgin English derived from Chinese .. (they seem to be every where these days) .. pardón .. pun unintended .. its a word from apparently a Chinese idol .. like Godly idol .. whooaaaa .. !!!!
that must have been a long long time ago .. cant imagine it coming from recent years .. err , recent ‘commie’ years .. no dis respect meant .. just a shorter form for communist .. an abbreviation developed in the 40′s they say ..
Ya so where was I .. haaan .. so at the desk .. lights on .. the 2 lamps from left and right .. ideally should be from the right for the English alphabet writing .. and the left for the Arabic alphabet writing .. what ..? why you smiling on this .. its the shadow issue yaar .. English alpha bet written from left to right .. if light is also on left the shadow falls on the right before you can construct an alphabet .. and vice versa .. got it ..
Now the smarties out there may ask but ‘Blogmaestre’ you are typing the Blog ..!
Exactly ‘smarty pants’ .. 2 lights because both hands .. sorry both fingers are being used, which travel to the left and right of the board .. the key board .. and the shadows fall on either side .. so the double lighting to diffuse the shadow on either side .. diffuse right , not getting rid of .. that is not possible .. because :
... where there is light there is shadow .. !!
aree wah .. kya dailogue maara .. no ..?
That be the theme of the DAY .. where there is light there is shadow .. every time there be light there shall be a shadow .. no light no shadow .. no darker replication without the onset of the brightness of light ..
Where there be the sunlight of success, there shall be the lurking shadow of failure .. get out of the light and failure goes .. but so does success , buddy !!
learn to live with it .. it is attached, never shall be detached .. a grey reminder that it is permanent .. never exact in its shape and form, but there, ever and always .. keep an eye on it .. and continue ..
Short .. quick .. rapid .. speed ..
they be the format in these modern generation times for everything .. the way they talk the way they wish to eat the way they want to communicate the way they wish to be entertained the way they dress ...
.. its all minimal ..
.. save time .. save cost .. get on to accommodate more in the saved time ..
HENCE , for the profess of the likes of moi .. keep it short sweet and adjustable to convenience ..
Entertainment ..
Huge discussion on these days after the announce of GiBoSiBo on digital .. many voices against .. many alright ..
Sudhir Ef makes a point in his deliberation :
When Henry Ford introduced the private car in the US, the last lot of horse-carriages in London gave polished gold-plated elegance to the cart, more sturdy horses, less rents and cushioned comforts.. all in order to compete with the car... didn't work... the horses had to leave the street... I believe, the earliest forms of entertainment began with music, humor, athletics, and performing animals... Let's not decorate the horse-carriages with polished gold... Time to reinvent entertainment... Hmm... I'll take the rest of my musing offline... the subject is too creative for an off-hand comment... 🙂
WHERE THERE IS LIGHT THERE IS SHADOW .. 🙏

A Journey to KGSP/GKS: Study Plan
After a very long while, I finally managed to post this! This, I guess is my final post on A Journey to KGSP/GKS Series. I’m still considering whether or not to make a post about the interview. I’m not sure I can cover this topic well since my experience is limited to the interview session in the Korean Embassy. Even I heard that each Embassy has its own way of conducting the interview, including the questions given. Anyways, on this post, I’ll be sharing on my experience in writing a study plan (or statement of purpose for the Graduate degrees) for the GKS Application. If you just started preparing the GKS Application, you may want to check my previous posts on the guideline to the application forms and personal statement essay or read my experience in applying for the 2016 KGSP/GKS-G.
So, as we’ve known, a study plan is another important stage to showcase the applicant’s ability in planning his study in Korea. One needs to explain his/her plans before coming to Korea when doing the study in Korea, and after graduating from the Korean university.
Study Plan template (2021 GKS-Undergraduate Application)
Statement of Purpose template (2021 GKS-Graduate Application)
When preparing for the application back in 2016, I tried to find as many resources as possible. I joined the KGSP Global Applicant Facebook group, searched awardees from Indonesia and other countries online through Facebook and Instagram, and contacted them to discuss their experience and ask for some advice. I then found Mas Nasikun’s blog, a KGSP awardee from Indonesia who did his Master’s degree program at Seoul National University. I was especially very grateful for his posts on how to write a study plan. His posts on KGSP Application are still there and anyone interested in applying for this scholarship will surely find it very useful.
Here I’m making a kind of brief guideline in writing a study plan. I divide them into plans before, during, and after studying in Korea.
Plans before going to Korea. Here, you need to write down things you have been doing and will be doing before going to Korea. This mostly covers Korean language preparation. I believe that ‘taking Korean language courses’ shouldn’t be necessarily on the list. There’s a bunch of fun ways to learn a language, especially the Korean language. What is better than watching Korean TV shows and being whipped by the actors and actresses? (Not watching one?) Okay, if you still doubt whether you should start learning the language by now, I urge you to do so unless you just apply for fun and ‘luckily’ see yourself get a seat at the end. Especially for those who never got anything related to Korea, get yourself used to how Korean language sounds is an important first step that will take you further lightheartedly. I met people who hardly heard the Korean language until they reach the country, and they struggled within one-year language training which I believe could have been less tormenting and fun instead. One year is short if not to say insufficient, trust me.
I was far from fluent when applying for this scholarship program (well, I still am), but I wasn’t unfamiliar with the language either. If there was only one effort in learning the language that I invested the most, it was listening to Korean songs. I wasn’t into K-dramas before coming to Korea, and I could barely make any time to go to a language center. I started learning Hangeul (Korean alphabet) while preparing for the application but just started self-teaching on basic grammars around 2 months before my departure in August. I wasn’t confident in mastering the language in one year, plus my over-anxiety told me to do something to lessen my stress in the future. Still, I knew I should’ve started earlier.
So, you need to explain that any plans during this time are to prepare you for life in Korea and of course the degree program. Here, you also need to mention your goals during the language training program. You may divide it into two semesters; what things you will do and the level of Korean proficiency you aim in the first and second half. There are many programs you can participate in during language training, such as the Buddy program, voluntary work at Korean schools, cultural festivals, etc. You may do your research and mention what you’re mostly expecting to do to improve your Korean skills.
Plans during your study in Korea. This section is a little bit different for GKS-U and GKS-G applicants AND applicants via Embassy and University Track. GKS-U applicants are provided a separate section for this part whereas, for GKS-G applicants, this part is combined with the plan before coming to Korea. Regardless, the best way to deliver this part is by setting a timeline for your plan, either per semester or per academic year.
For GKS-U applicants, I personally think that you can simply mention the number of credits in total to graduate and the average number of credits every semester. As for the course, you can mention some courses you’re particularly interested in and the reason (for example, those courses are in line with the topic interest of your final project/thesis, or they will be beneficial for your future career). These are basic information, so make sure you check the curriculum and graduation requirements! Other things to include are plans on taking short-term courses during summer/winter break and organizations/clubs/other student activities you will want to join (check on the university/department website for reference). Don’t forget to elaborate on why you need these activities (project it to your future goal).
For GKS-G applicants, I recommend writing down your study plan per semester since dividing into two academic years may limit the details. Depending on the major, you may set different goals each semester. Generally, I believe, the first semester would be the time to strengthen your fundamental knowledge regarding your field of study while adapting to the Korean education system. Some may have chances to start consulting with their academic advisor/professor even working in a lab. In the second semester, you may need to start working on your research plans. Here, you may briefly explain the thesis research you want to do. Most Master’s degree programs in Korea require a thesis for graduation so make sure you prepare one. Unless you’re applying for the Research Program, no need to go very detail on this. Three important points to include when explaining your research plan: what the research topic is, why you want to work on it, and why Korea and/or your university choice is the best place to carry out this research. In the third semester, you will probably need to sit for a comprehensive exam and start conducting your research. For social science and humanity students, you should prepare the ethical clearance application by the end of this semester or during the semester break so that you can start conducting your research, especially, collecting the research data, as the new semester begins. Finally, you may wrap up your final semester by completing the thesis and publishing or submitting a research article to a journal (some departments have it as part of graduation requirements).
For Embassy track applicants, I don’t think you need to elaborate on your 3 university and major choices and the reasons behind every choice. You likely apply for similar if not the same major. Despite different names, the focus study should be the same and that’s what you need to elaborate on. What I did back then is briefing the reason I applied for that major (I already mention it in the Personal Statement so I just briefly explain it here) and what topic of study I will focus on my thesis research. For university track applicants, you may explain the reasons for applying to the major and the university of your choice and your study plan followed by the plan each semester.
Plans after graduating from a Korean university. The keyword for this part, I believe, is future career. And the best way to show the reviewer your enthusiasm and your visionary side (regardless of how vague the future life is yet), is to name your future goal. I think telling what kind of job you aspire and some motivations behind it would work. Another important point to include is whether you will return to your home country or stay in Korea after graduation, accompanied by things you will do afterward. Again, this part may seem vague for some, especially for GKS-U applicants. Still, you need to make it as detail as possible, regardless of whether you’ll change it someday in the future or whether it seems unattainable for now. Dream big! If you plan on going directly to a graduate school, briefly explain what motivates you to continue your study and what field of study you’re going for. For GKS-G applicants, I guess their work for this part shouldn’t be too difficult as some are likely to already have a job and/or know where they’ll go after receiving the degree.
----
I hope you find this post helpful and may as well be a reference for writing your study plan. Best of luck with your GKS application and your study in Korea.

Meet the Curator
A Moxiety one-shot with Single Parent Virgil and kid Logan. Not edited. IDK just had an idea. @altruistic-skittles Word count: 1.9k Warnings: brief mention of adoption and Virgil’s ex was bad but I don’t go into detail at all.
It was in rare moments that Virgil couldn’t regret the path he chose to get to where he was now. When little Logan was coloring with a single crayon across a page in his coloring book while singing the alphabet, he was content. Or when Logan gave Virgil a drawing he managed to sign himself, or even when Virgil helped Logan ride a bike without training wheels... Virgil held nothing in his heart but love.
His ex who failed to convince Virgil to put Logan up for adoption after he was born had left them when Virgil wouldn’t budge. She vanished overnight so Virgil couldn’t even ask for child support while he struggled to keep a job and raise a newborn by himself. Virgil didn’t have much family left to help, though his good friend Roman was probably half the reason Virgil made out alright so far. Logan was a curious child, always asking questions but never satisfied with answers. Virgil would always try saving up to take Logan places like the zoo to let him burn his excess energy while being able to learn and ask questions. He couldn’t afford to do it as much as he would have liked, but he had managed a few small trips which Logan always enjoyed. When Roman introduced a friend to Virgil, it was a nice change of pace. Virgil spent so much time talking to Logan that talking to others his age was a nice break. Although, sometimes talking with Patton felt like he was still with his son. Bright eyes and burning through questions faster than he could answer, Virgil managed to keep somewhat of a conversation with Patton because of past experiences. When Patton said he worked in a museum as a curator, Virgil was a bit surprised. He had mentioned how Logan liked learning and he was always looking for new places to take him that weren’t so strenuous on his wallet. “Oh!” Patton perked up, grinning. “I work at a museum! I’m a curator, you should totally bring Logan! I can get you special passes for the day, too! My treat!” Virgil tried turning down the offer, it was far too generous of him, but Patton insisted. He traded numbers with Virgil to keep in touch and set up a date. Of course, Patton had texted immediately with a joke. After hearing Virgil laugh, he continued to send as many jokes as he could. Virgil’s phone would go off so often that Logan would perk up and ask what the joke was, even when it wasn’t Patton. They had finally set up a date to meet up in the middle of the week when it would be slow when Virgil discovered the first of many problems. When he explained to Logan that they were going somewhere special, he started asking questions. Virgil had no idea what the museum actually was, and a quick internet search came up rather empty. So, he told Logan that it was a surprise and that he would find out when he got there. Then after hearing Patton would be there, he asked if it was a playdate. Virgil tried not to panic at the mention of a ‘date’. Logan didn’t play with many kids his age and he had no idea of the small crush his father started to harbor for the curator. Patton was nice. He was easy to talk to and very friendly. He was great with kids, too! When he met Logan, he kneeled down and introduced himself and they got along so well! Patton wasn’t put off by Logan’s many questions and answered them the best he could. Heck, his son liked the man, that was impressive enough! Virgil couldn’t help it, his heart leaped and got excited at the thought of him sometimes. It was a simple crush, that much Virgil couldn’t deny. When they arrived at the location Patton had given, Virgil was very confused, to say the least. It almost didn’t even look like a museum. If it weren’t for the signs, he would have thought the bus dropped him off in the wrong place. However, Logan was excited and tugging on his father’s hand as he tried rushing into the building, staring up at the tall ceilings in awe. They found the desk and Virgil asked for Patton, just like he had been instructed. The woman at the counter immediately knew who they were and handed them badges. Logan was thrilled to get his and stared at it in awe. They wrote his name on it and put it on a star lanyard small enough to fit him. He thanked them and Virgil couldn’t hide the smile on his face. He owed Patton big time for this. Logan and Virgil gave their thanks and went to wait for Patton on the side before Virgil stopped. “Oh, sorry. I almost forgot.” He turned back to the receptionist. “What was the name of this place again?” “It’s the play museum!” Virgil froze and his jaw dropped a bit before Logan grabbed his hand, tugging at it and pulling him away. “Daaad, come on! I wanna wait over there by the fish tank!” Virgil stumbled and turned, allowing his son to pull him over to the tank built into the wall. “Ohh, cool! Look, that one looks like it has a funny nose! Oh, can fish get boogers?” Virgil humored little Logan by reading off the signs until they heard their names being called. Patton smiled and walked closer, his outfit much more formal than Virgil was used to. Though, the colorful tie sort of counteracted the button down Patton was wearing. “You made it!” “This place is so cool! What can we do first?” Logan looked ready to bolt off, but Virgil was faster. He reached out and placed a hand on his son’s shoulder, adding a small bit of pressure as a silent warning. Logan kept glancing around, but he relaxed in response. “Thank you for this, Patton.” “Yeah! Thank you Mr. Patton!” Logan smiled up at him before grabbing his father’s hand. “Can we go now, dad?” “Sure, buddy. We got all day, don’t worry.” Logan was practically sprinting as Virgil scolded him to not tug on his arm so hard. “You’re too strong, you’ll rip it right off!” “Eww, no I won’t!” Logan giggled. Eventually, they got to a section that looked like a massive play area. Everything seemed interactive and Logan didn’t hesitate to jump right in. He immediately tried to figure out how everything worked and Virgil could only think about how tired he’d be carrying him home and how well they would both sleep. The light in Logan’s eyes as he played was enough to make every hardship worth it to see his son happy. Virgil knew he’d be smiling for a week after today. “Really, Patton, I can’t thank you enough. This means so much to me, I owe you one.” “Aww, of course not, Virge! Don’t worry about it none!” Patton was watching Logan discover a series of buttons before deciding which one to press. The lights started changing colors and he looked around in awe before pressing another one. “I love working here and seeing all the kids get excited. It’s the best part.” “So, you’re a museum curator in what is pretty much a giant playground?” Patton’s laugh caused Virgil’s heart to jump and threatened to flutter out of his chest. “Yeah, pretty much! Best job ever, right?” “It certainly is very you.” “DAD! Look!” Logan had climbed a series of stairs and found some levers that moved a giant statue on a wall. “Logan doesn’t have to clean his room!” The statue’s mouth moved up and down as Logan giggled. “Thank you, mister giant!” Virgil huffed and crossed his arms. “Well, he does today! That is if he wants to be able to come back, he will!” “Okay, I promise! I’ll make it so clean, you’ll see!” Logan hopped down the stairs and ran off. Just seeing him run around was enough to make Virgil tired. They followed along and Patton pointed out a few things while Virgil and Logan got a closer look. It seemed that everything was interactive in some way and Virgil found himself playing and following Logan as best he could. They were both having loads of fun until Patton suggested the food court for a break before they continued on. Virgil ordered a few slices of pizza and had to fight Patton to be able to pay. Once they got to their table, Patton huffed and stared Virgil down as Logan didn’t hesitate to eat. “What? Are you really that mad I paid for my food?” Patton shrugged and leaned in a bit. “I mean, no? But I wanted to pay!” “You got us in for free today, Patton. I still owe you for that. I couldn’t let you buy us food as well.” Patton took a bite of his pizza before looking back at Virgil. He smiled and leaned in, the look on his face made Virgil’s heart jump in worry. “Okay, but I know how you can make it up to me if you want.” “Name it.” Patton’s smirk fell a bit and he leaned back, staring down at his pizza. “You don’t have to! Feel free to say no, but... Let me buy your food next time?” “Next time we’re here? Deal.” “No! No, though, that too if you’ll let me. I meant, uh...” Nervously, Patton licked his lips. “Next time as in just the two of us? Maybe this weekend? You could ask Roman to watch Logan for a little bit, maybe?” “Like a playdate?” Both adults turned to Logan who was about halfway through his slice of pizza already. “I can’t come?” “Well, not on this one! But you can definitely invite me out on other ones in the future if that’s okay?” Virgil’s ears and face felt really warm as Patton peeked up at him through his bangs. Patton’s glasses had slid down his nose a bit, his eyes silently asking for some sort of answer. “This, uh... would be a date, right?” Patton smiled a bit and nodded. “Oh. Uh... Okay.” “Okay?” Patton sat up tall, eager and excited. “Really?!” “Yeah. Yeah, definitely. I’d love that.” “Yes! Oh, I’ve been trying to get the courage to do that for weeks! I feel so much better!” Virgil didn’t get to ask anything else as he felt a tug on his sleeve. “Hey, dad?” Virgil smiled down at Logan. “Yeah?” “When you go on your playdate with Mr. Patton, can Roman and I come back here? This place is so cool! I want to show him the space room!” “Maybe, buddy.” Virgil smiled and brushed his hair out of his face. “You two might need a chaperone, though!” Patton chuckled and reached over, taking one of Virgil’s hands in his own. “What’s a chapter own?” Logan was a bit upset when they both burst out laughing, but Patton bought them a scoop of ice cream and Logan was gracious enough to forgive him. This time, at least.

The way to find out Cross Stitch Patterns?
Embroidery, all around the globe is considered as a slice of tradition. This legacy has been with us for many centuries. As an art form is therefore aged that none folks can pin point the accuracy of its ancientness. Since the time of our mothers, grand mothers and their ancestors have adopted this art, inspite of the globe being poles apart.Where we reside will not produce a difference all of us have been introduced into embroidery as cross legged embroidery. That's because it really is so simple to learn. It requires the most common of supplies that are accessible. So just how far ever I go ga ga over celtic cross stitch it'll be little because I love its patterns.Cross stitch is not without its impressions of varied civilizations and tribes and areas. Patterns of cross stitch really are a mixture of a few primitive, ethnic, contemporary day along with modern day variants. Other too have their beliefs, while some regional patterns are evident. Like Victorian cross stitch is admired because of its timeless layouts, African American stitch is famous to their ethnicity and Celtic due to their intricacy.Celtic embroidery is an ancient form of lace. Its archetypal patterns are very well understood the diversity of its own designs are something that we can enjoy. Since Celts have been nomads hence that the impressions of their art realized no more borders. These routines could possibly be seen on probably just about each possession of theirs. On their belongings the design and motifs work had minute details that some work could well be a masterpiece within our contemporary life. Cross stitch patterns used by Celts had beliefs of their life styles. Styles like geometrical shapes, mythological monsters, flowers, alphabets and more. They did not merely stop with creating layouts with embroideries, they were so found of the routines that even their paintings, utensils walls and walls could engraved with this kind of patterns. All of you'd now be asking about the techniques to get them magnificent and exclusive patterns. I wouldn't have been in a position to reply this. But I'm fortunate enough to own enough knowledge concerning this art in order be able to talk about it. Your choices of thread to machine design could be overwhelming, especially for the newcomer quilter. We often embrace the belief that a hundred percent cotton or lace sewing thread may be the only thread. Thread over time, may cut to cotton material, especially at which blocks are combined. For this reason polyester is often threads by quilters' choice. Howeverthere are many other alternatives of ribbon for machine quilting. So most our coasters are sewn to your adventure of learning a new blueprint, looking out our personal layouts or solely for the fun of this. It our goal that these quilts will likely be properly used because of our relaxation or the relaxation of our animals, kids, grandchildren or our buddies. Our goal is usually for the duvet to bring happiness to the human being that is blessed is the fact that receives it all. I don't know about you personally, but I typically stipulate to this recipient to"utilize their new quilt and enjoy it". Doesn't it make you happy to walk right in to a home where a person your pajamas reside and watch it on the couch, or on floor in front of the TV rather than being hidden off in a expectation chest? It wont disturb one to experiment and also require a few hazard with threads used for vine in the event that you can have the mindset that it is irrelevant whether most of your quilts are not going to eventually become heirlooms that needs to continue throughout lifetime. If you are feeling somewhat timid about wanting different threads for your own quilts, '' I expect the subsequent advice will allow you to muster the guts to experiment and have fun using diverse alternatives of threads for system quilting.Threads are numbered according to size. The lightest weight thread has the highest number. The number on a spool that's 50/3 is telling you it really is three-ply 50 weight thread. Even a 50/3 sewing ribbon is finer compared to a 40/3 decorative thread. Generally in the majority of cases, I favor a milder thread as it will show more but that is just an individual preference. You've plumped for when sewing with threads, then you'll need to try out a variety of needles to decide on which one works better for the ribbon and also your fabric. I'll provide you some Needle Size Chart that may lead you using all the size of needle to use for distinct fabrics. Your selections of thread to machine quilting also comprises your bobbin thread. I've used acrylics, rayons, Jean sew and cottons with success. It moves without being said, your choice will be dependent on the appearance you need on the back. As it is considerably thicker, for example, in the event you apply the Jean Stitch, then it will be more decorative as opposed to cotton. A gorgeous way touse the Jean Stitch is always to choose an"all over style and design" to your decorative pattern, like twisting, then twist your quilt"upper side " to quilt and let the bobbin ribbon series onto top.The monofilament, mylar and metallic thread are a little trickier to operate together with at the bobbin. Usually you can see that tiny twist to be adjusted by guidelines . BEWARE. All these are preset in the mill and you face the probability of having trouble once you attempt to put them back to the original setting. There will be A better idea to purchase a bobbin instance and just play with the settings one . I dabbed at a spot of crimson nail polish onto exactly the one I play with so that I would not confuse the two. When using the monofilament thread, I had trouble using this falling off the spool although used to do all the usual"fixes". The answer for me is to put the spool in a small babyfood jar rather than putting it in my spool holder. Monofilaments are cotton or nylon , available in smoke or clear coloring and appear to sew with a 90/14 needle. Sulky and YLI are manufacturers. Monofilaments will definitely give you an antique or appearance. In the event you sew on a dark material, the smoke-color is best to utilize as the clear one is going to look shiny and also be visible.A fantastic 100% cotton ribbon to-use is Mettler 50/3 wt and also YLI 40/3 wt. These makes seem to own much significantly less breakage than others which since you realize, is crucial to machine quilting. Even the Mettler thread is slightly stiffer than the YLI however, also the YLI offers a more decorative appearance. A 80/12 sharp or 90/14 sewing needle functions well in case you should be using a cotton or rayon thread into your bobbin.Rayon threads tend to be favorites touse by quilters because of the brilliant colors available. The result is cosmetic and slick because the rayon grabs the light and really show itself off. A 90/14 needle having a cotton bobbin thread works well. Sulky and Maderia are terrific brands for rayon threads. The metallic threads split very easily. Additionally they purge. The YLI now is easier to use, but that I think you may even like the Sulky and Madeira metallics. Your best needle size to use for the metallics will be described as a 90/14 sewing or 80/12 Metallica. Even the mylar threads are not as likely to crack as the metallics and you'll probably like the appearance that is glistening and moist which the mylars give. Even the threads appear to accomplish better in the bobbin in the event you use the metallics or mylar. To help avoid the breakage, then place the spool in a baby food jar beside your sewing device instead of on your machine if you experience a problem. If you match with all the metallics, be careful not to drop the cuttings only because they make chaos for vacuum cleaner cleaners. To get further details on this please check my review here. YLI may be the sole new I know of that has got the"denims Stitch" 30/3 wt thread. As you may guess by its title, it offers a look that is very significant. I would think hard before buying a mattress quilt as it's much heavier than the cloth and will probably cause the fabric. But , it produces a stunning decorative stitch for wall-hangings. The jeans/denim needle is your one to make utilize of to your denims Stitch because it has a larger eye than the embroidery needle. Our present stitching, embroidery, and serger machines sew at quite high speeds putting an enormous strain on threads. New threads are always being manufactured also it seems that each and every single machine manufacturer, embroidery designer, along with digitizer gets her or his own brand of thread. The majority of those threads work well on the majority of their devices, but since a lot of our devices become automatic as well as the mechanisms that work these are far hidden, it could be frustrating and confusing to troubleshoot if our threads crack , especially when we are trying to squeeze in that last minute present or are sewing the final topstitching details onto a woven wool jacket.Whenever a needle ribbon breaks, first thing to check is that the thread trail. Don't forget to clip up the ribbon from the spool before it passes through the tension discsand pull on the cracked thread throughout the system from your needle end. Do not pull on the thread backward by way of the discs toward the spool, since this can eventually wear out vital components, necessitating a costly repair. Then take the thread from your spool and re-thread the needle according to the follow instructions to your machine.Even in the event the needle into your system is brand new, needles might possibly have small burrs or imperfections which cause threads to crack. Make certain the needle is also the right size and kind to your own ribbon. In the event the needle's eye is small, it might abrade the ribbon more quickly, causing frequent fractures . A smaller needle can make smaller holes from the material, resulting in more friction in between fabric and the thread. Embroidery and metallic crowns are specially created for specialty threads, and will protect them out of the excess pressure. For ordinary breaks, try a new needle, a top-stitching needle having a bigger eye, even a more specialization needle, or perhaps a bigger size needle.Sometimes the ribbon will likely break over the needle, and a long item of thread is going to be pulled into the underside of the crochet. This thread will probably snag and tangle using the stitches, inducing thread breaks. If possible, it is also more advisable to slow the machine down when stitching a spot at which the thread broke over. Check for screw thread bits underneath the stitching on a embroidery or stitching machine. Lowering the tension and slowing the sewing speed may assist, especially with long satin stitches, metallic or monofilament threads, and high density layouts. Sometimes the needle tension may possibly need to get lowered significantly more than once.Changing that the bobbin is not listed in the most popular literature, nonetheless nevertheless, it can prevent perennial needle ribbon fractures. When bobbins get non, especially whenever they are pre-wound bobbinsthey exert a greater tension on the needle ribbon. Even a bobbin might possibly well not be close to the ending, nonetheless it is worth changing out, instead of coping with constant thread breakage. This happens in a few machines than in others. Another problem with bobbins is when they get down to the past couple of foot of bobbin thread, the thread could be wrapped inducing the needle ribbon to crack. If stitching proceeds, this knot may even be sufficient to divide the needle itself. This is especially advantageous for serger difficulties. Make sure the ribbon follows a clean path from your spool, to the tension disks or dials, as well as the needle. The ribbon might have jumped from its own proper course. To blame here is the arm. Re-threading will figure out this problem. There are also. Some threads may fall off the spool and acquire caught around the spool . Whether there are additional threads they can tangle with the thread. Threads may get caught on dials, buttons, clips, needle threaders, or even perhaps the edges of this sewing machine or serger. On sergers, the subsidiary looper can be a standard offender, so inducing upper looper thread rests as well as preserving the top looper stitches from forming correctly. Some threads are better feeding out of the surface of the spool, a number from your side of the spool, and a work better added to a cone shaped holder that a slight distance from the machine. Another tip with threads which spin, especially metallic threads, so is always to conduct them through a Styrofoam peanut between your spool as well as the rest of the thread trail. This helps to straighten the kinks and twists that can get captured, inducing breaks.Adding just a tiny Sewer's Assist about the ribbon will permit it to move across the machine simpler effortlessly. On occasion a small dip could be inserted to the needle. Make certain to preserve this bottle different from some other sheeting or fray prevent solutions, as those could cause serious problems should they have mixed up.Some devices tend to be somewhat more particular about their thread than some the others. Even if working with high quality threads, then some threads may work in 1 machine and also not just another. Get to understand which ribbons operate nicely on the machine and also inventory on them.Although some may recommend throwing the spool away, you will find other options. One suggestion is to put it and set it. The thread could also be employed for less stressful purposes, for example as for example other methods for thread embellishment, hand sewing, tassels, and also strings that were twisted. Another way to save as much thread is to pull the top layer or 2 from your spool and try back again. On occasion the layer or layers may have been dry outside, but there is still very good ribbon underneath so when you get to it, then your stitching will go efficiently.

This Cohime project you're working on seems very well thought out and polished. I have to ask, how long have you been working on it and what inspired you to make it?
Oh dear god my friend you have no idea.
Cohime began when I was in 6th grade, and if memory serves I was 13. Meanwhile, I am currently edging close to the age of 27, so... slightly more than half of my life, as of current, has been devoted to creating this world and the story I want to tell within it. Nearly 14 years.
As for inspiration, I was already writing on the daily way the fuck back when. I was already fiddling with fanfiction [don’t ask, I have saved NOTHING from that era], and daydreaming was a near constant. In one of my daydreams, I imagined a scene in which two armies, one with magical powers, one without, were about to march on each other in a valley. On the cliffs above them as a woman, and I empathized with her-- she was my point of view in this day dream. An injustice was about to happen. What was going on below her was wrong. She summoned a creature, massive and horrifying, that erupted from the earth between the two armies and stopped the fighting, but she wasn’t able to keep control of it. After her people, those who had magic, retreated from the field, the creature turned on her and killed her.
This daydream turned into something of an obsession. Within a few days, I’d written the scene and had begun detailing the world it lived in. I knew I had the beginning of something, but even I didn’t know quite what just yet. I wanted to show someone, so I showed my English teacher at the time, Ms. Mooseburger. [that is her actual name and she’s a beautiful human so don’t make fun of her] She held on to it for a day, promising me she’d find some time to read it. After school a bit later, she gave it back to me with notes written all over the typed pages; she did correct my grammar, but she also praised my early and clumsy use of description and metaphors. At the end, she wrote something I don’t think I’ll ever forget.
“You are a gem! Keep going, don’t ever stop.”
... and here we are. That scene I’ve described for you, while it has seen little tweaks and fiddles and a lot of updates on the language used to write it, has remained by and large the same... and is the inciting incident for a ten book series that explores a world that is, not to put too fine a point on it, my life’s work.
Fun fact, the reason mage marks appear on the RIGHT hand is because I’m LEFT handed. When I was just getting started I would draw the mage marks on myself with sharpie. Additionally, the language used in the book that’s associated with magic [as well as ancient cultures], known as Ehtmoph, is derived from a scrambled alphabet code I used to pass notes with my buddies WAY back in the day. The language has gotten much more complex in the years since, but the original system is still where I start when deciding what a given root word should sound like.
... I should prolly stop babbling now. XD Thank you for the question!

Our Kids pt. 1
Summary: Lisa knows they can’t stay there, especially with how uncontrollable her brother’s powers are.
Backstory: Lisa and Frances were adopted by Tim Drake and Faith after they found them living on the streets.
Notes: This month I am going to do requests and this Next Gen series.
Or that’s the plan ATM but we’ll see how long this lasts lol.
Eric and Sofie are @speedypan
First few days were good. Frances kept his head down and counted when he was feeling his powers building up. Normally if he went backward from 20 it helped him. If that didn’t help he would count the time till he would see Lisa.
Only 1.24 hours till he could see Lisa again.
Gotham Academy held all grades so it was easy to run from the Elementary to the High School where Lisa was. Normally this was when they had a free period or lunch.
Today though, the counting wasn’t working. Neither was the other distractions he always tried. Collin had suggested keeping his fingers moving the motion would help distract himself. “Also keep your mind focused” the older boy had added winking at Britney “find something distracting to keep your mind occupied.” The girl had just rolled her eyes giving her new cousin his phone back.
“My number is in the emergency contacts. Just text or call ok.”
But it wasn’t working. He could feel the energy pulsing through his body like a heartbeat. Fast and furious trying to break free.
“Deep breaths.” Frances thought, “in and out” the energy started to pulse around him causing his hair to stand on end.
******
“So just add Y to solve for X…” The teacher droned on as Lisa scribbled on her notebook. Why did his voice have to be the most mellow sound ever? Her pencil tapped on her desk as she tried to wrap her mind around all these alphabetic letters that were being used as numbers. Part of her wishing she was still on the streets fighting for her life. At least the numbers were numbers.
It happened all at once. The air became dry, static energy flowing like currents through the air. The girl in front of her, Ashley, a hand went through her suddenly frizzy hair. Lisa frowned as she watched papers and notebooks start to float into the air. Shit, Frances.
She hadn’t felt the energy this bad since… well since they had almost gotten mugged by those henchmen two years ago. Jumping up Lisa looked around wildly. The teacher paused studying her.
“Yes?”
“I… Bye” Dashing out she heard the teacher calling after her.
******
Eric sighed leaning back in his chair, today was one of those days. Long and never-ending. He frowned as he noticed a small mass of lint float into the air. It was oddly thick. The way it danced in the light it almost looked like snow frozen in the air. Little clouds of white gathering together like they were about to rain down a mini thunderstorm.
Then his eye caught Lisa dashing down the hall.
Shoot something was up.
******
She found him in the bathroom of the Middle school. Crouched down in the corner shaking.
“Frances?” The small boy looked up with bright pleading eyes. Sparks of color flickering across his normally dark brown eyes. Slowly his sister walked toward him kneeling down before taking his hands in hers.
“Come on, focus”
“I can’t” the energy flowing through his body making small sparks like static electricity spark around them. Little rainbows of color. The door opened again to the sound of Eric and Red.
“What’s going on?”
It started the boy as another wave of energy burst from him. Flowing from his hands onto Lisa shooting up the girl’s arm. The sound was like a sicking crack as her bone split in two through her skin.
Lisa cried falling back with the sheer force. The pain so intense she almost passed out. Eric was at her side in an instant his hand out toward Frances who looked on in horror.
“Hey wow, buddy focus.”
“Frances?” May’s voice said walking gently up to him. “Try breathing ok.”
Red’s eyes glowed behind her, “Yeah focus, I can help.”
“NO!” Frances said floating his back against the cold wall of the bathroom. His eyes wide with horror as May walked closer. “I can hurt you.” Rainbows of light leaking from hands like raindrops burning the ground around him. The smell of burnt plastic and rubber filled the air.
“You can’t hurt me see,” May said taking the younger boy’s wrists. “My bones are made of rubber, they can’t break.”
“May” Red warned as he tried to gain control of the younger boy’s mind. The energy seemed to push him back like a wall. It almost felt like Red was bashing his skull against it, over and over as he tried to gain access. He tasted blood on his lips as he pushed harder. They didn’t truly know what France's could do but they were in the school and if something truly bad happened a lot of people could get hurt.
“You can do this” May whispered.
“No, No!” the younger boy screamed pushing the girl away from the energy cracking angrily around him. It was a blur. Antoinette grabbing her siblings and friends dashing them out of the bathroom as it exploded.
Lisa screamed pushing away from Eric as she tried to stand. She felt herself growing weak as she fell back. Eric studying her. She felt nauseous like she was going to throw up. Looking down Lisa noticed the blood all over her new shirt Gigi had just gotten her. Her arm limps at her side.
“OH MY GOD LISA!” Britney’s voice ran out as she rushed toward the girl. Lisa struggling to fight her way toward the bathroom to no avail. She was so weak.
“Where is he?”
“Who? What’s going on?” Britney asked turning to Eric who sighed rubbing his head.
“Frances, his powers…”
“Sofie got him,” Antoinette said coming up behind them. “I made her teleport him somewhere deserted, most of the blast went there. They are at Faith’s now”
That was all Lisa remembered as her world grew black. That and the sound of Britney yelling her name.
Lisa found herself in her bed a cast on her arm. Faith and Frances sitting next to her.
“We thought you would be more comfortable at home so we had the doctor come here,” she told her as Frances rushed at his sister hugging her. Tears in his eyes. A million “I’m sorry” falling from his lips. To see him this way broke her heart just a little more.
This wasn’t his fault.
Hours later she sat on her bed looking over her bag. They would have to go again. She knew that. There was no way they could stay. Even if Faith and Tim let them stay she knew they couldn’t. It just wouldn’t work.
Lisa knew Frances would be upset. He had grown attached to Tim and Faith. He liked the other kids they had become friends with. Memories of him asking her if they could stay played at her heart as she added a few stolen knives into the bag.
But they could take him away. She could lose him.
There was no other way. They had to go. This was their life.
Always on the run.
“Hey, just thought I would check up on you.” Lisa spun around pulling her pocket blade out. Eric laughed putting his hands up.
“Easy there Inigo Montoya”
“What?”
“Nothing, what’s with the bag?”
“Nothing?” she said mimicking his tone. Trying to be nonchalant as she shifted on her feet, her green eyes not meeting his.
“Going camping? ‘
“You should always have a bag packed.”
Eric laughed again looking at the bag, “Why? Is Godzilla going to take over the City?”
“Who?”
“Wow, we need to have a movie night. We should probably start with the classics. Have you seen Finding Nemo? I feel like you would like that one.”
Lisa sighed, he wasn’t going to leave, was he. “I can’t stay for a viewing, we are leaving tonight.”
“What? Why?”
“We can’t stay, they might take Frank away from me.”
“Who?”
“Them”
“Who is them? My parents can help, they are heroes.”
Lisa felt her heart rase. No, no heroes, no people. No help. Just run. They would just try to help. Lock Frances up, like that doctor when he was 5. He had said he wanted to help, like these people. But he wanted to take her brother away. So she had left him bleeding out on the floor as they once again ran away.
No one was taking him away again. She would kill them all if she had to. She had done it before and she would do it again.
“Wow calm down, you're shaking,” Eric said reaching out only to have the knife pulled on him again. This time it nicked his arm.
“NO!” Lisa screams, “You’re not taking him away from me! I won’t let you hurt him!”
“Calm down” the redhead yelled dogging another jab before grabbing her wrist pulling her forward causing her to drop her blade. Then quickly he twisted her around pulling her hand behind her back. “Breath!” he hissed in her ear, “No one is trying to hurt you or your brother.”
Lisa tried to pull away but he was stronger than her and she had a broken arm. She didn’t realize she was on the ground crying until she felt Eric’s grip loosen.
“I promise,” Eric said, “I won’t let anyone take him away from you. You are both safe here.”
They both sat, not really saying anything. Just telling Lisa cry. After a while, there was a soft knock on the door before Faith’s face peeked in.
“Oh hello Eric, I thought I heard your voice. Lisa would you like to come down. Frances wants to show you something.” Lisa nodded slowly standing.
Her brother was sitting at the dining room table with Jennifer. The older woman was laughing at something and Frances beamed up at her before going back to something on the table.
“Oh Lisa,” Jennifer said looking up at the girl. Frances looked up before putting his arms around something.
“It’s not ready yet!” he said
“Why not show her what you have so far?” the woman asked gently, “I think she wants to see something pretty.” Frances looked down at the item he was hiding deliberating in his mind before letting out a small sigh of defeat.
“Fine.” slowly he opened his hands to show a small wolf made out of clay, “Jennifer is showing me how to make art, to help me focus. I made you a wolf and I’m going to add rainbows like your stickers.”
Lisa smiled taking a seat across from him on the table. “I love it,” she whispered looking around at the people in the dining room. Eric leaning in the doorway. Faith coming back in with a few glasses of ice cream for everyone. Jennifer playing with her lump of clay which looked something like a bird. Frances, a huge smile on his face as he focused on his creation. Eyes never wavering as he molded the clay in his hands. He was so happy, so calm.
Maybe they could stay here.
At least for a few more weeks.

Sensor Sweep: Alan Moore, Louis L’amour, Conan Pastiches, Robots
Super Heroes (BBC): Is it embarrassing for adults to like superheroes? According to Alan Moore – creator of the Watchmen series and widely considered one of the greatest comic book writers – it is. He says superheroes are perfectly fine for 12 or 13-year-olds but adults should think again. “I think the impact of superheroes on popular culture is both tremendously embarrassing and not a little worrying,” he says.
Folklore (The 13th Floor): The ancient lore of the indigenous peoples of North America are as varied and far-reaching as the continent itself, and unless you’re well-versed in native lore, you might not realize how many of those tales are populated by horrifying spirits, ghosts, witches, demons and monsters… and since we’re in the scare business, we’re going to share the most nightmarish ones with you.
Westerns (Crimereads): Some of the difficulties the fiction magazines were experiencing were due to a prewar invention: the paperback book. The Western “dime novels” and “railway novels” (so named because they were sold in train stations) of the nineteenth century were early experiments in this form. True success, however, had to wait until the 1930s, when a pair of innovations were introduced: an effective glue strip used to bind the book together and the adoption of a distribution model invented by magazine publishers.
Fiction (Goodman Games): What makes those stories pastiche instead of fanfic, I suppose, is that many of these writers were paid to write it and the result was distributed widely. You would assume that meant that the work was well-edited and had some kind of consistency, but a lot of people, me among them, would tell you you’re wrong. Some writers don’t quite get the character, or want to change him, or don’t understand that he actually does change, age to age, and is capable of greater subtlety/humor/intellect than is popularly assumed (just as REH’s writing is more complex than popularly imagined).
Men’s Adventure Fiction (Paperback Warrior): “The idea that genre fiction is somehow inferior in quality to so-called mainstream fiction, and is not as literary, is artificial bull-puckey,” Hayes said. “Mainstream also is genre, psychological studies, social issues, etc. are all genres, and most of that is not as entertaining as other genres. Entertainment is the primary objective of all fiction, the other, lesser goal being enlightenment, which should never dominate the story. If you have a cause to espouse, the proper literary form is an essay or a non-fictional book.”
Pulp Magazines (Dark Worlds Quarterly): I’ve been spending a lot of time amongst the Pulps lately. And it begs the question: what is the appeal of these old, flaking, brown books? One thing strikes me immediately, the collector’s mania that says, “I want them all!” Since Pulp magazines are no longer produced it is a finite proposition to own a “complete Weird Tales” if not a cheap one. But this doesn’t explain everything. The idea of a rare magazine or comic sealed in plastic, unreadable, priced at, say, $1000.00, makes it no more interesting than a rare coin or a bearer bond.
SF RPG (Trollsmyth): Treasure is easy in fantasy realms. Usually, it’s great piles of gold coins, gleaming gems, and works of art. Back in the middle of the 20th century, when the future was nuclear, space powers feuded over fissionables the way 20th century powers fought over oil. Later, when the power of the future shifted from fission to fusion, He3 became the thing to fight over.
A. Merritt (DMR Books): What a difference a century makes, eh? A well-respected book reviewer for “The Newspaper of Record” published that glowing endorsement for the very first hardcover edition of A. Merritt’s The Moon Pool. As I’ve explained elsewhere, the book itself was a “fix-up” novel merging Merritt’s original novelette of “The Moon Pool” with the novella/short novel, “The Conquest of the Moon Pool”. Let’s see what else the reviewer has to say…
Pulp Fiction (Grey Dog Tales): This book opens with an excellent and very informative introduction by Garyn G. Roberts Ph.D., in which he gives a very detailed background of Farmer’s love for and relationship with Pulp fiction. Without wanting to repeat too much of the information in that introduction, it’s worth mentioning here that Greatheart Silver was Farmer’s homage to the great pulp heroes of the 1930s.
Gaming (Jeffro’s Space Gaming Blog): Long, long ago I heard rumor of them in the introduction of GURPS. Elements of Melee and Wizard are of course baked into the classic Second Edition GURPS Basic Set and first edition GURPS Fantasy. But strangely enough, the group of high school buddies that went hog wild playing Car Wars and Ogre and Illuminati somehow never went beyond doing anything else beyond creating a few 100 point characters with those gaming materials that were supposed to be Steve Jackson’s magnum opus and the ultimate testament to his design genius.
H. P. Lovecraft (Slashfilm): During an interview with Coming Soon, SpectreVision’s Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah revealed tentative plans for a Lovecraft trilogy, adding that Color Out of Space director Richard Stanely might be involved as well. Wood and Noah said that if there’s “enough of an appetite for these things, and we can keep them going and make at least three of them” because Lovecraft is “such an important voice in horror.”
Folklore (Blog That Time Forgot): Ah, that most feared & beloved of Scottish beasties, the Wild Haggis. Elusive yet ubiquitous, they’re rare enough to be seldom seen in the wild, yet populous enough to feed 5.4 million Scots every Burns’ Night. Some say they are small furry mammals, others that they are little birds with vestigial wings; some say their right (or left) legs are longer than the others to facilitate mountain navigation at the cost of reproductive opportunity, while others suppose that they have only three legs, or even no legs at all; there are those who compare their call with the drone of the bagpipes, and others who equate it with a whistly twittering.
Small Press (Rawle Nyanzi): There’s a particular short story magazine that chugs along like a little engine that could. In spite of financial challenges and some less-than-stellar sales figures, it keeps on keeping on through periodic crowdfunds and targeted marketing. I’m talking about Cirsova, the Magazine of Thrilling Adventure and Daring Suspense, founded in 2016 by P. Alexander, a Twitter buddy of mine who did the interior formatting for both of my novels Sword & Flower and Shining Tomorrow.
RPG (Goodman Games): The third book in the Alphabet series is now ready for pre-order! The Cthulhu Alphabet is an organized book of madness that you can incorporate into any role-playing game, Dungeon Crawl Classics or otherwise! The Cthulhu Alphabet is a collection of random tables to inspire your role-playing game, structured around an abecedarian theme. If you are a player navigating an uncaring universe, a haunted setting, or a horror-filled dungeon, you will find new ideas for your character and adventures.
Tolkien (Tolkien and Fantasy): I’m using the term “Tolkienian resonances” in this post’s title to refer to some things that predate Tolkien’s own relevant works, but are certainly not influences. They could perhaps be called precursors, but that seems too expansive a term. In any case, a few of these works with such resonances are interesting, and I recount them here. First, there is the discovery by Mark Hooker of the poem “The Orc and His Globular Island.” Hooker wrote about it in the November 2019 issue of Beyond Bree. The poem is interesting not only for its use of the word orc, but for the orc’s similarities to Gollum in The Hobbit.
H. P. Lovecraft (Sacnoth’s Scriptorium): Despite enjoying him as a good read, Lovecraft left Williams out of SUPERNATURAL HORROR IN LITERATURE, his monograph surveying the field, which he was expanding and revising at the time. Doubtless Williams did not make the final cut because Lovecraft had concluded that CW was really not a horror writer at all and also that only committed Xians wd fully appreciate these novels (Lovecraft himself was an atheist and nihilist).
Tarzan (DMR Books): As I stated this time last year, a significant portion of Tarzan fandom considers November 22 to be the ape-lord’s “real” birthday. That’s fine with me. It makes a perfectly good excuse to talk about my favorite works of Tarzanic art. I considered going through my faves in the order I first discovered them, but it was long enough ago—and much of it was in a fairly short span of time—that I decided to go chronologically as they were first published. Thus, the iconic cover for the first McClurg edition of Tarzan of the Apes has to start things out.
Pulp Art (Dark Worlds Quarterly): The first Pulp magazine to offer robot stories was not a purely Science Fiction mag but Weird Tales, which featured the first robotic brain, giant robots and robot despots in Edmond Hamilton’s “The Metal Giants” and Ray Cummings’ “The Robot God”.
Fiction (Don Herron): The other day Brian Leno mentioned that he’d heard good things about the novel Relic by Preston & Child — but even more specifically, he got the major tip-off from me. I found the novel much, much better than the movie and could not believe that the movie cut out the role of Pendergast, an FBI guy who for all practical purposes may as well be Sherlock Holmes. My god, the best character. I could not believe it, and I still cannot believe it — who’d buy rights to The Hound of the Baskervilles and then delete Sherlock? What genius does that?
Ian Fleming (Mystery File): Thunderball was the eighth James Bond novel and followed a break after Goldfinger where the new James Bond had been a collection of short stories, For Your Eyes Only. In fact Thunderball was the result of the author’s dwindling enthusiasm for his creation after a series of bitter disappointments about Bond’s screen fortunes. A proposed Hitchcock film of From Russia With Love had fallen through (Hitchcock ended up doing North by Northwest instead), and while sales for the Bond novels had rocketed with Doctor No and Goldfinger, the television series pilot “Commander Jamaica” that fell through had become the plot of Doctor No.
Weapons (Pulp Rev): Swords are cool. That alone would be enough reason to include swords in fiction. And you can’t have a street samurai without a sword. But my preferred aesthetic, that of the military technothriller, demands greater justification than just ‘cool’. And for good reason: soldiers must justify every piece of gear they carry on a mission. Unnecessary gear just slows you down and takes up space.
