listen. I'm banging my fist on the table. Aku/Scaramouche. Why isn't this a THING. Why after digging halfway to hell into the tumblr tags have I only seen two people total shipping Aku/Scaramouche. It is RIGHT THERE.

Scaramouche bases like 50% of his identity around being Aku's #1 specialest little guy. He's called Aku often enough to have memorized both his phone number and the unique tune the buttons make when he dials the number. He crossed half the damn planet AS A HEAD to give Aku some good news as fast as possible. He's known Aku long enough to make it to #1, so he must know how often Aku breaks his bargains—even with people that handed him Jack on a silver platter—but he's unflaggingly confident that Aku will happily pay off Scaramouche's debts as a reward. He's just as confident that the guy who instantly eye-lasers anyone that displeases him will be thrilled to chat after Scaramouche breaks into Aku's locked down castle.

And Aku IS willing to listen and DOESN'T kill Scaramouche for breaking in. He gives Scaramouche a new body—as far as I can recall, the ONLY on-screen example of Aku rewarding an underling in the entire show. He's willing to do a stupid victory dance with Scaramouche. He brings Scaramouche along to gloat at Jack (altho it didn't end well RIP Scaramouche The Merciless you'll be missed). He gave Scaramouche his number in the first place—possibly during the span of time when he's so depressed he'll hardly get out of bed, much less talk to anyone. Aku even accepts collect calls from him.

And there's SO many ways you can write it.

Are you into "villain and his most loyal henchman"? Boom. You've got it.

"Godlike figure and the little person who (figuratively or literally) worships him"? Boom. You can effortlessly spin it that way.

"Murderous remorseless evil power couple that mocks the good guys together"? Boom.

"Creepy dark doom guy who radiates grumpiness and his ball of radioactive sunshine and optimism"? Boom.

"The one guy who can get away with shoving his way into the misanthrope's life without being sent packing"? Boom.

"Guy who looks dark and scary but when Jack isn't stalking him is a font of unhinged evil glee and guy who looks fun-loving and cheerful but is also a font of unhinged evil glee."

"The Statler and Waldorf at any group social function if Statler and Waldorf really liked slaughtering whole towns and mistakenly assumed they were the two coolest guys in the room."

"Guy who's so miserably depressed he can hardly drag himself through the day and guy who goes to the ends of the earth to give him the one thing that can make him smile again."

"Guy who has all the riches in the world and his hot young thing that confidently tells everyone he meets that his sugar daddy evil boss will pay for anything he asks."

Boom boom boom. I could go on. You can do anything with this ship. "Oh I want a monsterfucker ship but I can't tell if I'm in the mood for demons or robots" WHY CHOOSE, HAVE THEM BOTH.

My personal preferred way to interpret them—you're getting my headcanon now, I'm holding back the general Scaramouche headcanons and sticking to the ones relevant to the ship—I think Scaramouche's model is the next-gen upgraded version of the X-model line. The X-49 experiment proved that giving robots emotions made them better at killing and helped them survive longer so they can kill more. So, give them all emotions. Make a couple of tweaks: you don't want them doubting their jobs or understanding right from wrong, so don't give them consciences or the capacity for remorse, let 'em have fun killing while keeping the rage and self-preservation that made X-49 so successful. And rabid loyalty to one living being seems like a great way to motivate them, but we don't want any more robots dragging home stray dogs. Program them for loyalty to Aku.

So here we've got a bot who has an entire whole personality of his own—dude probably dresses himself, he has very strong opinions on Jack's hair, and I'm sure Aku's not the one who went "you know what would make this assassin unstoppable? the flute"—and yet, and yet, the core of his existence is obsessive devotion to Aku. Everything's about Aku, everything's for Aku, he kills for Aku, he travels the world for Aku, he sings and dances for Aku, he breaks Aku's commands for Aku. All he wants to do is everything Aku could possibly want him to do. And he must be succeeding because he's Aku's #1 assassin.

When Scaramouche is slaughtering a whole town just to lure Jack out so he can kill him, Aku is telling his scientists he's given up on sending anyone to kill Jack and pretending he doesn't even care anymore—and that must mean Aku didn't send Scaramouche after Jack, Scaramouche decided on his own that that's his target. It's not like he needs to impress Aku—not THAT much anyway—he's already #1. He's trying to figure out what will make his depressed-as-hell boss finally happy. He's calling Aku as often as he can get away with, to hear his voice, to make sure Aku approves, to ask what now, what can I do for you next.

Eventually, ultimately, if you wait long enough and dig deep enough, his every thought revolves around Aku. It's what he's programmed for, after all. He worships Aku. He wants Aku. He loves Aku.

... Scaramouche you weren't programmed to feel loyalty that way. Scar. Scaramouche what are you doing. None of the other bots in Scaramouche's line did this. (Which is good, because if he thought that a bunch of bots with the potential to be just as competent & useful as him were his rivals, he might just destroy them all.) These emotion chips are wild, the second you flip them on they start adapting and changing and it's impossible to predict how they'll affect a bot's personality. Maybe a bot will decide purple overcoats are cool and fall in love with his boss. You never know. Well... whatever's going on in his head, it seems to be effective. He is Aku's #1 assassin.

For Aku's part? If the show's plot had gone a little bit differently and he didn't blow up anybody's head and they'd both lived long enough for Aku to find all this out himself?

How rare must it be for anyone to want him?

Not his massive store of riches—him. Not a piece of his political power—him. Not offers from him of cushier jobs or better bounties—him. Not his protection as an indestructible shapeshifter—him. Not his favor, a village spared, a prisoner freed—him.

Him—and not in spite of the billion red flags, but heedless of them. Him—with no fear of the potential consequences that come from being so close to him, the greater risk of misstepping and ending up in the Pit of Hate or worse—not because his suitor arrogantly thinks himself immune to those risks (well—maybe a little bit), but because anything he can get before that last mistake would make it all worth it. Him—not because this suitor imagines some secret better nature hiding inside of Aku, but because of what Aku clearly is on the outside—even when he's feeling at his worst and most pathetic—because Scaramouche is devoted to Aku the way he is, because he must be devoted to Aku the way he is, however he is.

The fact that it's programmed doesn't make it any less sincere. And anyway, it was never meant to be programmed like that—from the default code, this arose naturally.

And Aku may have been pursued a few times in the past, primarily for political alliances and the like, but he's never been wanted like THIS before: with the steely-opticked determination of an unstoppable killing machine.

And this demon, this monster, this tree-ogre, who sees children celebrating his would-be murderer and—instead of punishing them or even telling them made-up stories about how good is lame and evil will always win in the end—tries pathetically to convince the children that he's the hero protecting them, tries to steal that hero-worship for himself...

It's possible Aku may have never noticed how awful it feels to be eternally, universally unwanted... until he's wanted for the first time.

And once he feels it, once he's convinced it's real, he'll crave it with all the avarice with which he ever hungered for the rest of the world's vast treasures.

Do you see my vision. Can you feel the potential. Please. Please. I'm on my knees. Is anybody listening.

In light of discovering I’ve been a friends to lover girlie this whole time. Here’s are my top ten friends to lovers of all time canon and non canon.

1. The ship that started it all admittedly I liked Raven more so I shipped her with Robin, but my god Robin and Starfire were cute a whole ass ship I didn’t even realize I was shipping until they kissed in the movie and I was squealing like well I was a kid lol. My favorite episode aside from the Raven ones were always the ones focused on their relationship. Stranded was chefs kiss. I’m not a girl I’m not your friend. Date with Destiny had me gagged. Sisters the arm reach as she’s kidnapped beautiful. No other couple will compare.

2. God when this was airing what a time to be fucking alive. I was so obsessed with this ship. My first fanfic ideas were about this ship. I used to roleplay this show at school. They were so fucking messy with their just friends bullshit. Just friends my ass. I used to watch episode 22 routine on repeat and yes I have it memorized they almost kissed then spent the rest of series pretending they weren’t down bad for each other. They never actually made it official either which will forever haunt me to this day.

3. This one crept on me. I didn’t realize I shipped it until I shipped it and there was no going back. I mean come on. The look of love is literally their theme song. What do you mean Langa only likes skateboarding when Reki is there to watch and cheer him on. What do you mean Reki is afraid of Langa getting hurt not himself but Langa. Cindereki need I say more. The most casual friends to lovers cause they don’t even realize till the end. I went to skate infinitely with you who says stuff like that to someone they’re just friends with. How they adopt each others love languages through your the show. Ugh.

4. Alright imma be honest. This one started as me just wanting to read more Itadori fics but my god. If gege wasn’t a coward they would’ve been official (jk mostly) but Megumi only wanting to live a domestic life with Yuji, regaining the will to live after Yuji says he misses him, not having a reason for saving him not wanting him to die, start by saving me itadori…yeah. And itadori never giving up saving fushiguro, first words out of his mouth are always fushiguro, tells Sukuna to give fushiguro back. I mean how could I not.

5. Might be too early for me to be adding them to this list but so far Momo and Okarun have all the makings of being just as great as Robin and Starfire if not better. Two idiots sharing one brain cell the way they actually communicate with each other, Okarun getting salty when people insult his wifey, Momo getting jealous when people flirt with her husband. Okarun straight up telling Momo he can’t read her mind but he cares about her and values her friendship. Momo straight up saying she wants to talk to Okarun and loves hanging out with him. I’m into deep and it’s only been nine episodes. First time I’ve been this invested in a straight ship in years.

6. Back to the classics with this one. And I’m lowkey starting to sense a pattern. Cause why do they all involve redheads in some way and do I have a type? (yes) Kim and Ron are the original boss wife/fail husband. They’re so cute cause if you rewatch the series there’s all these little hints that they always liked each other (it took you 12 stinking years to kiss me) (I mean me and Kim sure everyone expects it but) but like didn’t wanna ruin their friendship fucking cute as hell idk if it was intentional on the writers part but yeah

7. Gwen and Geoff from Total Drama Island. They had one episode together and I was a goner. Idk I just love my sun and moon motifs as yall can clearly see. Something about the black cat golden retriever dynamic just tickles me I guess. I know yall see the potential. I rewrote total drama island just to get them to together it was bad

8. Harry and Luna from HP. Idc he shoulda been with her and not Ginny. No shade to Ginny but I just feel like they would’ve been such a great couple. Harry with someone who understands him and will never make him feel like he needs to live up to the savior role and Luna with someone who will never judge her for being different or odd. Sigh. So much wasted potential. So stinking cute oddly doesn’t exist as much anymore sigh.

9. Birdflash. I will not deny a huge part of this stems from really liking Wally West and that’s pretty much it. And I wanted more fics about him. I did not like Artemis at all, no one else shipped him with Zatanna or Rocket or Batgirl or Megan so Robin it was lol. But I mean I’ve been eating since so I can’t complain.

10. Ok while I don’t like this ship anymore I can’t deny I was obsessed with it for a hot minute. Danny/Sam from Danny phantom so much freaking potential and actually really cute from 10 year old me’s pov too bad they don’t hold up as an adult. I was very much obsessed with goths as a kid huh.

Adrien/Marinette: I haven’t seen enough of this show to put em in my top ten but my god is it cute af sometimes I just need to cute sunshine’s falling in love that is all. I’ve seen enough to know I’m rooting for both of em. A

Jade/Andre: I was obsessed with the episode he had a crush on her. Also in canon he’s the only one she calls a friend, they have lunch dates, she isn’t ever mean to him not as mean as she is to everyone else. I think it’s be cute af alright. Plus Andre wouldn’t flirt with other girls and make her jealous

could you explain to me why people ship seroroki 🥺pls

Full disclosure, I am not speaking for all Seroroki shippers or even some. Just speaking from my own experience as someone who does like the ship.

Okay, even though they don't have a lot of moments, the moments they do have are great. After the Sports Festival, I like they have these moments where they imply they hang out or they're on good terms. They share manga (chapter 218 for reference), Sero has nicknamed Todoroki (Joint Training Arc) and during the pool episode he cheers him on. There's also right after the Dark Deku Arc, there's that bit with Mineta copying Todoroki twice and Sero just "nuh uh, stop", thought that was cute and amusing.

Their vibes just feel compatible to me. Todoroki is real chill, but doesn't mind having mind or socializing (especially after season 2) and Sero is just as chill but to a more excitable extent. Like, he'll start the fun and Todoroki tags along with it.

Sero is just as outgoing as other characters like Kaminari and Ashido, but he's also kind of like "not so fast, let's cruise along with this" kind of character. To me, he's a good fit for Todoroki to hang with because Todoroki would still be able to join in and socialize with him, but not so fast since with his background he's not used to it.

There's also this shot from season 5's first ending song, Footprints by the peggies, that is so cute!

Piggybacking off the last anon, what is it you like about Jane so much? I find my feelings on her kind of mixed but I lean towards positive.

okay i haven’t read act six in probably like 5 years so bear with me here. *cracks knuckles*

jane is sooo so interesting and it’s really a shame people miss like everything fun about her.

pre-scratch she used her detective work to literally succeed at tearing down the crocker cooperation, to the point that HIC has to fucking abandon ship and head into another universe to have another shot at her evil empire. pre-scratch jane is also fucking hilarious! if you didnt enjoy her antics with john as nannasprite you must just have no heart

meanwhile HIC breaches a new universe, and her FIRST fucking order of business is to NEUTRALIZE JANE CROCKER because of how goddamn detrimental she was to HIC’s plans the first time around.

not ONLY does HIC pump subliminal messaging and brainwashing into nearly every aspect of jane’s life, she also tries to straight up mind control her basically whenever possible! she ALSO sends assassination attempts after jane 24/7! (people will seriously try to say that jane lived a safe normal life… as if she wasn’t almost killed by walking into her backyard.) this is because HIC is fucking scared of jane, as she very well should be!

jane is also NOT a boring weepy annoying crybaby like everyone and their mother complains about. jane is literally the most fucking supportive friend and emotion-repressing dumbass you could ever hope to meet. jane combines john’s emotional repression and jade’s intentional cheerfulness together into one of the most fucked up cases of emotional repression in the whole comic

act 6 suffers from a LOT of shitty writing choices, but it’s not jane’s fault the whole act turns into a soap opera— and she’s ALSO not the only one who acts all soap-opera-y either! literally all of the alpha kids suffer from this, people just like jane the least so they project it all onto her. despite the fact that she did her very fucking best to NEVER talk about her feelings, to the point where she ONLY started telling people about shit when she was mind-controlled or took mind altering substances to make her do so! and you can say “ohhh that’s stupid she shouldn’t repress things in the first place how dumb” but, one she’s sixteen, and two, everyone eats that shit up when it comes from like. literally any other character.

people (cough hs2 writers) act like she would actually be “pushy” with a relationship on jake— as if she wasn’t literally the one who helped him make the decision to explore dating dirk?? because she thought it was the right thing to do???

jane is incredibly thoughtful and mature and people really throw all of those traits out of the window with preference for a version of the story where she Comes Inbetween Their Fave Gay Pairing as if she wasn’t, again, the one who got them together. jane is also extremely interesting in terms of queerness; she’s got the makings of a really interesting arc, not to mention she’s the only human girl that dresses mainly masc! there’s a lot there that people just don’t care to explore.

people just have less patience for the prospit kids in general. not to mention homestuck fans love to be misogynistic and berate jane for stuff they love the men doing, or claim she’s coming between them when she’s not, etc etc. and then because no one was writing fun meta posts about her, nobody ever rereads the comic to grab little scenes or lines to expand the online discussion about her! and then because there’s no discussion about her, people assume she’s boring and don’t go looking for bits to start discussing, which cycles on and on forever until we have the ripple effects we see of that misogyny today. which mostly consists of, “oh i hate jane because she was a villain is hs2”, or, “i know hs2 isn’t canon but i still don’t care for jane because she doesn’t do anything that interests me.” (and she’s only not interesting because of the cycle i mentioned before causing NO ONE to have meta discussion about her).

TL;DR: jane is fucking COOL, she just suffers from intentional fandom ignorance. and she’s also a canonically hot, fat, masc woman, so i don’t know what else you could possibly want.

How are we feeling about ensekai’s emu3 translation!!! (I’m mad)

(if you remember the 3 whole posts i made when asahi got de-gayed on EN you'll know i am mad too and that this is probably going to get long)

i don't like to be too cynical but it was so obvious that they were going to change that line, i had a feeling since the event first released on JP and after the incident with Asahi where I went through and tracked down multiple other examples of EN removing queer subtext it became clear to me that in no way shape or form was "emu-chan really loves nene-chan" making it to EN without getting changed. what i didn't expect was them changing Nene's line after Luka's comment, which actually makes this whole situation far worse than many of their other instances of toning down queer subtext.

for anyone who isn't aware of what happened, in chapter 5 of the current Emu event, there's a scene where Nene, Rui and the Virtual Singers are talking about what would cheer Emu up. The vsingers all talk about how much Emu loves spending time with Nene, leading to the following exchange

If you look for them, any fan TL of this scene will be something similar to this:

Luka: ...Fufu. Emu-chan really loves Nene-chan, doesn't she? Nene: Th-that's nothing special...

EN's official translation is this:

So what's the issue? I'll start with Luka's part. In the original text, she uses the word daisuki, which can mean to "like a lot" or "love". It's a word you will see frequently in the idol/idol-adjacent genre of games, due to its ambiguity in that it can be read as either platonic or romantic when used towards a person, and often will be used in ambiguous situations so that it's harder to confirm the writers' intentions either way. so here, fans of the emu/nene ship could view the fact that emu loves spending her time with nene as more on the romantic side, but people who don't like the ship could view it as platonic and move on.

while they didn't translate daisuki directly, Luka's line still works, and still contains the ambiguity that works as ship tease in the original text. it's a perfectly fine localisation that still conveys the original intent. despite that, there is something to be said about EN's consistent refusal to translate daisuki as love in most instances when it's not used on An/Kohane (but then again, EN has literally teased An/Kohane on their twitter account so is it all that surprising?).

Here's some examples:

Aibou no koto ga daisuki de / he loves his partner -> he cares about his partner very much (The Power of Unity chapter 7 when Kaito is comparing Arata to Akito and Toya)

HARUKA-CHAN, DAISUKI DAYOOOO!!! / HARUKA-CHAN, I LOOOOOVEEE YOU!!! -> You're the best!!! (Dear Me, As I Was Back Then chapter 4 when minori is at an ASRUN concert. this one isn't actually that great of a localisation)

Honachan no koto daisuki dakara. Kore de iinda yo. / I love Honachan, so this is fine. -> I want what's best for her. And this is it. (Leo/need main story chapter 14 after Saki tells Honami she won't bother her anymore)

Minna daisuki de - taisetsuna tomodachi na no / I love them all - they're my dearest friends -> They're all amazing, and very dear to me. (Leo/need main story chapter 17. this isn't good either)

What's particularly amusing about that last one is that there's a second official translation for it that I assume was done by JP staff (since EN never promoted doing the Journey to Bloom subs like they did back when they provided subs for Petit SEKAI) that actually keeps the word daisuki as love.

It's a better localisation than the official EN team one.

Questionable localisation choices aside, Luka's line is fine and is actually in line with the original. The issue with this localisation very much lies with Nene's part, because that is an entirely new line.

In the original text, Nene's "that's just normal" or "that's nothing special" or however you choose to TL it, is meant to be her questioning Luka's statement, since all the things that the other vsingers said that Emu liked were pretty normal things like going shopping and playing video games with nene. To Nene, these things are normal activities for them to do together, so she gets embarrassed by the fact that Luka concludes from that information that Emu loves Nene. When I dissect it like that I think you can really tell what the writers were going for here lol.

"That's just us being friends" does still convey the idea that Nene thinks these activities aren't anything out of the ordinary and she isn't sure why the vsingers are picking these out as some of Emu's favorite things to do, but it's very different from the original line. "But those are just normal things we do together" is something I just came up with on the spot, but it's a lot closer to the original text and still conveys the same meaning. The fact they changed the line to "that's just us being friends" is, honestly, not even subtle that they're covering up queer subtext. The original scene was very clearly written in as ship tease, and EN mentioning "friends" for no reason, especially since the word nor anything close to it was not used in the original, is instantly a red flag because it's like the go-to for queerbaiting and censorship. This was intentional. There was no need for them to specify that the relationship is platonic, Luka's part is ambiguous for a reason so that fans can view it how they like.

Just to top all this off, here's Rin's original line just before that Luka+Nene interaction:

Oh, and! And! She said that playing games with Nene-chan is also super fun!

And here's Rin's line from the official EN translation:

That's not the same thing, but even more weirdly, the incorrect part (super fun->really loves) is a correct translation for the part changed in Luka's line. So, they can do it, they are willing to say "really loves", just not in the right places. Maybe because Rin's part is less personal than Luka's part? It's strange actually, this isn't the first time they've done this either. Off the top of my head I can think of an example from Shiho's Varied Kindness 2* story where they translated the word "suki" as really loves, despite that being much stronger than the original word used (and the fact that daisuki is used a lot in the Leo/need stories and it's incredibly rare if not entirely unknown for them to translate it correctly).

It's not subtle that they're trying to remove implications of the characters possibly being queer, they did it in curtain call and they did it in walk on and on, and multiple times before then too. And considering some of the content in this year's events and the amount of times they say daisuki alone, it's gonna keep happening. honestly i hate the fact that i keep trying to justify the translations in these posts. these translations are intentional. what happened in the curtain call translation back in october says enough. when a character who uses explicitly romantic language towards another guy passes as a straight character in the translation you know they're doing it on purpose.

oh and once again, it's only the EN server that has this issue. The scene in question was translated almost word-for-word on the TW and KR servers.

read fan translations. they're better than what EN gives us and people put a lot of effort into them.

Deep Night (Thurs iQiyi) ep 2 of 8 (10?) - Everyone seems to be a bit of a player and I’m not mad about it. It’s nice to see high-grade flirting, and I really love how very gay the leads feel. Not BL gay. Actual gay. We shall see how it goes, I suspect we are in "messy gay" territory in which case, I predict utter carnage and that this show will drop ranks precipitously for me. But right now? Of all the Thai BLs airing, I'm enjoying this the most. How bizarre. 

I like the side couple (thrupple?) too, despite the prat fall kiss and possible cheating. They very pretty:

Rule no 966 of the BL world. He’s never asleep. 

Argh Achi wants Ji so bad. Nice mutual kiss tho, despite Ji's baggage. I guess Ji knew what would happen if Achi stayed? But why is he so scared? Just deeply closeted? The backstory is very high school achy and I feel like it explained Achi but not Ji. And the crying in the movie was lovely, so we totally understand Achi's but Ji is just messed up and confused? I admit to being a bit confused too. Why is Ji the one so angry?

On a totally different aside, I really like how the set dressing is done in Ji’s apartment. It looks lived in and not staged. Super rare in Thai BL. I'm reminded of Ai & Pond's dorm room in Love By Chance, which actually looked like a real college dorm.

City of Stars (Fri iQIYI) ep 7 of 12 - Why is it always the pulps that actually trot out the best communication, conversation, consent, and healthy relationships? Yes I'm still wincing over the truly bad acting but I’m enjoying their good relationship. The sex scene was sweet and tender, although the likelihood of rose petals getting stuck places wigs me out. (Flower petals + lube = terrible combination. Just FYI.)

1000 Years Old ep 5 of 12 - How ridiculously colorful and flirty they all are. There is nothing at all vampire about this show. I’m a bit bored by the restaurant plot but I'm tuning in for the bonkers approach to goth. How dare they be so cheerful with my precious emo youth, but also, how very Thai pulp of them.

Unknown (Taiwan Tues Youku YouTube) ep 4 of 11 - oh it’s SO GOOD. Reading the yaoi and crying. COME ON TAIWAN HAVE MERCY. The red wrapping of the hands (red thread, yes yes we get it). The boy who doesn’t want to box for so many reasons. Not the least of which is how unpleasant it is to spar with a lover. 

This is easily the best BL currently airing and it is going to hurt us. But I don't care. I love it.

AntiReset (Taiwan Fri Viki/Gaga) eps 8 of 10 - This show is dangerously cute and I’m scared for everyone involved, including me.

Love is Better the Second Time Around AKA Koi wo Suru nara Nidome ga Joto (Japan Gaga) ep 2 of 6 - Poor baby thrown in all willynilly amongst a pack of queeny bitchy gay intellectuals. I'd be lost too. It's the worse kind of fight, one you have to philosophize your way out of.

Although I Love You and You AKA Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yaro ka (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 10fin - They are extremely adorable and it was a very good ending - mature, adult, and bittersweet. I liked it a lot. But I didn’t love it the way I wanted to.

The promise of this show, younger cook courts older divorced office worker, should have been my catnip. I mean if someone pitched this to me in an elevator I would have downloaded it by the second storey. Unfortunately, it did not exactly fulfill that promise, not in the way I'd hoped. Did I still enjoy the ride, yes, but I feel just a little let down. 8/10 

My Strawberry Film (Japan Thurs Gaga) eps 5 of 8 - Honestly now I’m just shipping the two girls getting together. Frankly, I really don't like this show, and normally I'd DNF but there's only a few eps left and nothing else is airing rn.

Close Friend Season 3: Soju Bomb! (Thai ViuTV grey) 10 eps - I'm exhausted by this franchise and the variety pack style of BL. If there is a particularly good couple (or installment) I might watch it, but I'm letting others decide for me.

A Secretly Love (Thai WeTV grey) 10 eps - I watched the first ep but grey is too much work for this inferior of a show. I may pick up and binge if it gets distribution but for now, it gets a DNF from me. KimCop might have held this crap together but Kim without Cop? No thank you.

Lady Boy Friends (Thai WeTV grey) 16 eps - reminds me a bit too much of Diary of Tootsies only high school, not my thing. DNF unless it turns a corner and is truly amazing for some reason.

The choreo controversy - Deep Night vs OnlyOneOf. Look, like a musical rift, or a styling photoshoot, there are no new ideas in choreo, I feel like Madonna did this pose too, a long time ago. Certainly someone in the 80s. Or whatever. Anygay, it's an ironic thing to see a Thai BL being called out by a gay-branded Kpop group when both are exploiting eroticized homosexuality for commercial profit... just saying. (HOW DID WE GET HERE?) Not to mention that BOTH are ALSO exploiting the kink community. We live in interesting times, BLabies. In the end, it's a good publicity stunt all round. And I think Nine knows exactly what he's doing (and why he is doing it). Finally: Drama drama drama around coreo? That is V gay boys. Fun fun fun, carry on everyone.

3/21 Two Worlds (Thai IQIYI) 10 eps - One of those "he's dead Jim so time travel" thingames staring MaxNat. I'm over this concept but Asia flipping loves it and I do enjoy MaxNat. Phupha (Gun) and Khram (Nat) love each other but Phupha is murdered. Then Khram is pulled to a parallel world where, 12 years ago, Khram and Tai (Max) were in love. However, Khram was killed by Tai’s dad. Now Tai finds alter-Khram apparently alive. But then there is ALSO an alter-Phupha to deal with. (Phupha is played by Gun Thanawat who was Khom, the repressed butler bodyguard from Unforgotten Night. We like this, we scared of the love triangle aspect.)

Have ya noticed that it's slender pickings right now but it shouldn't be? This is not the mid summer slump nor end of year lull. We should be getting some heavy hitters on first quarter release. (Side eyes GMMTV. Perhaps those painful Japanese acquisitions were a bigger issue than any of us realized?)

Anygay, IMHO, Thailand's BL bubble has popped and sponsor money is drying up. This is my shocked face:

Look, the 2021-2023 level of release and growth (exponential) was never gonna be sustainable, so I'm not surprised. I suspect that in 2024 Thailand will actually produce fewer BLs than 2023 (73, 64 in 2022, and 40 in 2021).

I know I'm sticking my neck out predicting any film industry but... I have seen this kinda thing before and it just *feels* like shrinkage. Thai BL's load has been shot, my peeps. (Not to be crass or anything.)

Oh, don't worry you pretty head about it, it's not going away, just getting less prolific.

Believe me, as much as the Rules of Acquisition are valid, I don't think i'll be making profit on a print version of The Message. The production costs for 20 pages booklets are super high. I'll have to print a significant quantity of copies to make the production fees drop and figure out a reasonable price to sell the comic. My end goal with this is to make people happy and not lose money on prod costs. I also don't want to end up with useless piles of Zelink comics in my office. Printing a comic really is expensive. I'm really doing this for fun. When projects starts to be about money...i tend to lose interest. Everything i print and sell is made for fun. If people like it, cool! If not, well, too bad. But I need to be smarter with The Message.

I will definitely try to make the comic available to anyone who is interested in a physical copy. But there would additional shipping fees, obviously. Maybe I could make a survey at to know how many people would be interested and plan my production accordingly. I might sale a digital version too so that people can see the art in better resolution if they wish.

Oh and as for my tabling event, I always attend Montreal Comic Con, my local event. 2025's edition is on July 4-5-6.

As someone who loves canon Klaine as is, there are a few fundamental things I believe about the ship that only actually furthers my enjoyment of them, that I’m kind of shocked how many people think were OOC, or hate and think of as bad writing.

Here’s a list of things I think are absolutely crucial to understanding Klaine!

Blaine cheating was in character. Kurt cheating was in character.

First of all, both of Klaine love attention, so jot that down.

Regardless of anyone’s personal feelings on the matter, I know people love to argue semantics here how “Blaine didn’t care about Sebastian so it’s different”, the show canonically equates Blaine talking to Sebastian behind Kurt’s back as the same as the situation with Chandler. He said it himself in Dance With Somebody, “Although a while back I was sort of doing the same thing…”. He also cheated on 2/2 of his boyfriends on the show. This is something that’s so consistent with his character and to call it OOC just because someone can’t picture season 2 Blaine doing it, even though there’s 5 other seasons of his character to consider, is just silly to me. I’m all for cheaters!Klaine, I think it’s hilarious and I would have watched them cheat on each other and cheat on other people WITH each other a million times more.

To understand Blaine’s character, and explain how his cheating is in character you also have to get: he could act impulsively and based on emotion, when he was insecure he felt the need to find a way to take back control in a situation (Tested and Puppet Master), and when he felt hurt, he lashed out. This is particular was something we saw again and again throughout the show, and his cheating is just another example of this. I think this post does a good job detailing these things.

I think his cheating wasn’t simply because he was just lonely and he needed some physical reassurance as I’ve seen people say, but also because he knew it would hurt Kurt. However, afterwards he realized that hurting Kurt didn’t fix anything. And this is cycle Blaine goes through quite a few times. Feels hurt -> hurts Kurt -> it didn’t help the situation and actually made things worse.

Now: Kurt texting Chandler. I always find this discussion a little interesting because I feel like it usually goes beyond people’s opinions of just Kurt and Blaine as characters, but also the boundaries they feel about IRL relationships and what actually counts as cheating. Some people think it’s cheating, some people think it’s not, some people think it’s something more in the middle. If you asked me simply, I’d say yes he did cheat. The fact that he didn’t want Blaine to see his texts is proof enough it was cheating. However if you asked and gave me the chance to write a 15 page dissertation on it I’d say…he did cheat but it wasn’t this huge emotional affair people make it out to be. Not even to excuse Kurt because as I’ve said before, I think Klaine cheating on each other is hilarious and I would never take that away from Kurt and if he cheated on Blaine I would only cheer him on, but rather…I just genuinely do think it was a bit complicated! Or rather, I think there was a double standard here that doesn’t negate Kurt’s cheating but does call out Blaine’s hypocrisy more, if what Kurt did was cheating then so was what Blaine did with Sebastian as the show canonically equates them. And I also think it’s interesting that even when Kurt was texting Chandler, he wasn’t truly opening himself up to another person and letting himself be emotionally available to Chandler, that’s where I think it’s less of a full blown emotional affair (but I do, personally, see flirting as cheating even in irl relationships.). It was a very detached, lazy form of cheating. Because Kurt was honestly so lazy sometimes LMAO love that for him though. I also do think there were more reasons Blaine was upset with Kurt in this episode than just the cheating.

I think Blaine singing It’s Not Right But It’s Okay in front of everyone was also incredibly hilarious. Like I love it so much it’s SO funny. This scene also continues to illustrate that Blaine tended to lash out when he felt hurt or slighted, and that he was prone to large public displays of emotion. This is important to understanding Blaine’s character, as it also connects to his performance of Teenage Dream in season 4 and the proposal in season 5.

The season 4 breakup was not out of nowhere.

Blaine had already shown he couldn’t cope with long distance when he transferred to McKinley to be with Kurt for a year, and when he ignored Kurt during DWS because he was upset Kurt only talked about NYADA and New York since he felt Kurt was already moving on without him. Even during Somewhere Only We Know he looks devastated lol and it’s why he even transfers to McKinley, to be closer to Kurt. He always wants to be close to Kurt.

Meanwhile, Kurt had a hard time balancing his new New York life with his old Lima life. Kurt had a very one track mind, and that could cause a detriment to his personal relationships. This is shown in Grilled Cheesus when his dad made a point that they need those Friday night dinners or they might not see each other much, or how he ignored Mercedes for Blaine in The Substitute. This is also already shown to be a problem for him in DWS, where he’s so focused on his excitement for college. When Kurt is caught up with something, it’s hard to break his attention.

Dance With Somebody was foreshadowing. Like, hey, these two guys are definitely going to have more problems down the line and here’s what they’re going to be, it’s not going to be resolved in this single episode.

Three things can be simultaneously true at once: the proposal was beautiful and moving, Kurt had wanted to get married to Blaine because he still showed up to the proposal since he knew about it in advance. However…he still could have felt pressured, after the fact. Or at the very least, he had his own regrets about saying yes and pushed some of the blame for how he was feeling onto the proposal.

I know a lot of people use the box scene and the sleepover deleted scenes as pure evidence that Kurt was 100% sure about getting married to Blaine (as well as that one scene where Rachel talks about Finn proposing to her and Kurt clearly shows he would have said yes if Blaine had asked him). But if we’re going to take deleted scenes as evidence, then we have to consider there’s also a deleted scene where Kurt said he felt pressured during Loser Like Me, that takes place much later and would therefore be his most recent thought on that matter in the timeline, to take into consideration. And even completely disregarding that, I still think you can take his actions throughout season 5 and use them to infer the fact that he felt as if saying yes to the proposal was starting to feel like a mistake.

During the car ride over in Love, Love, Love, Kurt almost seemed like he was being driven to execution lol yet I still think he was blown away and moved by the proposal and he had planned to say yes, which is why he went anyways instead of telling Burt he couldn’t do it. Kurt did want to get married to Blaine, the proposal was a grand gesture that he loved, and he wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. I don’t think it’s fair to paint the proposal as a malicious act (though I will say, it’s not often stated that one of Blaine’s motivations to propose to Kurt was so he couldn’t meet anyone else) because it simply wasn’t. The proposal was a genuine act of love from Blaine, that suited Kurt (he loved weddings, was excited at the idea of a promposal in season 2, and a lot of what he wanted out of a relationship, set up in season 2, was the ability to be public with the person he was in love with just like anyone else. The proposal is in the same vein as him wanting to walk down the halls holding hands with a boy, it’s a representation of the strides the world has made for gay rights and Klaine’s right to be able to express love so publicly just like any straight couple. Believing that Klaine should have had a private proposal instead is, in my opinion, a complete misreading of both their characters and what the ship is meant to be.)

But! As time went on, Kurt began to have doubts. Kurt could have changed his mind the older he got (after all, he was still in high school during the box scene and the Kurtchelcedes sleepover) + the more actual experience he had with being engaged to Blaine, and especially as they had a difficult time even living together. And it really is possible! People change their minds. Of course the way Kurt went about it was super passive aggressive (and I lived for every moment of it) and he didn’t tell Blaine this until it was too late, but I think it’s completely possible he was initially sure about saying yes, but then changed his mind over time as reality began to set in that it wasn’t as easy and fairytale as he thought it would be. A lot of Klaine’s problems stemmed from the fact that they had a hard time grappling between their idealized versions of each other, and who the other really was, which Burt brings up when Blaine asks for permission to marry Kurt (And can I say I just love the fact that Burt said no but Blaine did it anyway lol like it’s another Blaine thing I really love about him. Also that he encouraged Tina to propose to Mike when they weren’t even dating because he still thinks it’s romantic even though it didn’t work out for him), and that could apply to the proposal as well. The fantasy of having such a grand proposal, of being engaged young, might seem different once being faced with reality, and he was beginning to believe perhaps it was a mistake to say yes.

Kurt also repeatedly stated, like in the Purple Piano Project for example, that he didn’t want to get married until he was around 30. So it’s in character that Kurt could have felt they were still too young.

I want to make a better longer post about the proposal because these aren’t even 1/3rd of my thoughts about it…(I have quite a few thoughts about the way Chris chose to act in this scene, I genuinely believe he was going for a “overwhelmed with emotion” look but his eyes were opened so wide that he just look terrified the whole time…) I swear I love the actual proposal! I just think it’s interesting to think of the way it could have affected Kurt and connected to the breakup in season 6. Which…

The season 6 breakup was not out of nowhere.

Tension between Klaine had been building up since season 4. It was clear after the cheating Kurt’s perception of Blaine and trust in general changed, and there was building resentment from all throughout season 5 (especially if you consider that Kurt was growing resentful of the proposal and possibly feeling pressured from it). Even though they did talk about their problems and promised to resolve them like in Tested, I think the June Dolloway arc proved that Blaine could go back on his word if he wanted to, which only furthered Kurt’s doubts. Like Kurt had said, they talked about lying to each other, just for Blaine to lie to him again. At the end of that episode, Kurt told Blaine he was choosing to trust him, and though many people see that as them working out their feelings for good which makes season 6’s breakup come out of nowhere for them, I feel as if that final scene between them showed just how much Kurt didn’t actually believe what he was saying. His body language is incredibly stiff, and the way Chris delivered the lines is almost monotone, as if Kurt is forcing himself to say these things. While body language irl isn’t something you can actually use to judge a person’s thoughts, in acting it is supposed to clue us in to how a character is feeling. And I feel like, even though he was telling Blaine that he was going to choose to trust him, he was just going through the motions of the song and dance they’ve been playing these last few arcs. Inside, he felt like he had already lost a fundamental trust of Blaine and their relationship would not be the same again, and that resentment building all throughout season 5 is going to spill out all at once with his very harsh “Maybe I don’t!” in season 6. That outburst didn’t come out of nowhere, because he spent all of season 5 bottling his feelings.

It’s super cute when Blaine moves back in and Kurt moved the desk back to where Blaine had wanted it though. But it also kind of doesn’t erase the fact that we just watched an entire half season of them arguing.

Blaine dating Dave was in character. And no, I don’t think it was simply a natural cause of them coming from a place with a small gay community. Blaine chose to date Dave for a reason. (And it wasn’t a pure, “just trying to move on” one.)

It’s too much to get into. And maybe many people will not understand... One day I want to fully go into depth about it, but right now I’ll try to explain it as briefly as I can. Blainfosky makes complete and total sense when you understand Blaine’s canon character and his consistent canon actions (and not the fanon version of him), it aligns with the major theme of season 6 which is about regression before moving on. It makes sense when you examine how important Dave Karofsky is to Klaine’s relationship as a whole, his complicated relationship with Kurt, and how their history together isn’t erased simply because Kurt forgave him.

And so, I think Blaine dated Dave for a reason. And that the thing they have most in common was Kurt, and this was purposeful as they even say they got to talking…mostly about Kurt! And so I do think on some level, Blaine was hoping this would hurt Kurt. However, like his cheating in season 4, he realized that hurting Kurt didn’t help himself feel better (and we see it on his face when Kurt runs away during the scene in Scandals in Loser Like Me) nor did it help the situation. And that’s why, when he finds out Kurt is going on a blind date because he’s going to respect Blaine’s relationship, he’s instantly jealous. When they talk about it, Blaine pointedly tells Kurt “like you’ve always said, we’re better off as friends.” At the very least, I don’t think Blaine dated Dave for the intention of moving on (because even the act of going back to Dalton was meant to reflect he wasn’t moving on), because it’s clear through his body language and tone throughout the first half of season 6 that he was hoping to get some sort of reaction out of Kurt. This is especially clear when he accused Kurt and Rachel of taking Jane from the warblers, eager to get a jab in there about Karofsky. And because he was never with Dave for the chance to move on, he was never with him because he genuinely liked him, as soon as they kiss in the elevator Blaine is basically all but ready to have a full blown affair with Kurt lol and he even teases it in Transitioning after Kurt rigs the wheel.

And okay! I get that most of this is not positive stuff, and might make you wonder why I like this or why it furthers my enjoyment of Klaine. And what I think is super important is that these events, that are caused by Kurt and Blaine being the specific people they are, make Klaine a much more interesting and compelling couple than if they were just any old generic “healthy” pairing. These are the things that make Klaine Klaine, these things happened because Kurt is Kurt and Blaine is Blaine! It’s fun to analyze why they chose to do the things they did, to connect this stuff to their other behavior in the show, and I think handwaving it away because someone might think these (very canon) things are OOC or bad writing simply because they wish Klaine was a perfect couple where nothing bad ever happened is a bit…boring? I love that they cheat on each other and on other people WITH each other, that they’re both control freaks (and yes, Blaine is one too, there are two whole episodes about it! I feel like people confuse Blaine being obsessively in love with Kurt with being blindly submissive, when a power struggle between Kurt and Blaine was present several times throughout the show) who sometimes don’t see eye to eye, and that they have issues! It makes them so much more fun! and one day I might write more about the positives of klaine, but these things I’ve listed are genuinely thinks I like about the ship just as much as the “good” things.

Why I think Byler is endgame

Before we start, you must know I'm really skeptical about theories and all. I like to read and have fun with them, but believe them? It's really hard for me as a 20 years old queer person. Since young I've suffered being queerbaited by mainstream series, Stranger Things wouldn't be the first nor the last to do that.

I know today things are a little bit better, but for the sake of my poor broken heart, I'm always expecting a deception. Yet, I can see byler happening in season 5.

Here we go to the reasons why.

The existence of Robin

I've heard a lot of straight people say, before season 4 and even now, that "Will can't be gay because Robin is the gay person in the show. There is no reason for another one".

Like? The show can have 38272 straight, developed and important for the plot characters, all of them with love interests and happy endings, and one gay character inserted as a comic relief is fine. Two? To much to deal with.

I know, I know, disgusting. BUT what if I say that Robin was not a character added to the show only for a comic relief or identity representation at all? That she was presented for the watchers to consider the existence of a gay character in the show. For them to recognize some queer coded things that, without Robin, they wouldn't be able to?

Robin was presented to us in Season 3. As we must know, the third season of the show is mainly dedicated to character and relationships development. Thanks to it, we got to see the characters way more cylindrically, their fears, mistakes, who they are in their normal daily life. Mike, El, Hopper, Joyce, Erica and Steve gained many new layers in this season, but Will had the most special one: the first explicit hint of his sexuality.

And then, Robin appears. At first we are conditioned to think she likes Steve, the Duffers play a game with the watchers' heteronormativity using the dubiousness of their dialogs. And then, boom! She is lesbian. Not only lesbian but repressedly in love with a girl - at least was - and jealous of Steve.

Thanks to this coming out scene

The interpretation door was open to see this as Will being in love with a boy, repressing his feelings and being jealous of the girl the boy is dating with.

Will's jealousy and feelings for Mike back then stamped the background of everything, it was being slowly built inside the show - but not inside the character, remember the Snow Ball script? It was always there, just unseen.

Until here we are only remarking that Will is gay. But what Robin has to do with byler as a ship?

Well, if she is the queer character created to open this door for Will, created to gain the sympathy of the general public as comic relief character who bonded with two of the most popular characters of the show - Dustin and Steve - since s3, showing the watchers the struggles of a queer person in the 80's in a "light" way and making the viewers to cheer for her love life, of course her character holds a big role with byler building a romantic relationship.

Robin appeared in Season 3 because the viewers wanted Milven to happen in season 2 - thanks to the heteronormativity and kids sexualization I may say - when it wasn't going to, it wasn't scripted like this and it's not going to be endgame. So Robin's creating a scape route for the writers.

The hints given about Will being called a f@g and Mike over protective and supportive behavior with Will were not enough to create this bridge between friends and lovers as we know very well.

Movie Date and Schrodinger Cat

Moving on. We know Will is gay. Okay. What is still uncertain in the show is Mike's sexuality and required feelings towards Will. Here, we are focusing in the required feelings part.

I read a lot of analysis about the "movie date scene". I remember people discussing the blushing frame and the holding hands theory even before s4 coming out and at the time it sounded like joke to me - as I said I'm really skeptical. Yet, after rewatch the part and reading a lot (especially @greenfiend 's one about the holding hands thing), I feel like I finally understood why the scene is so spoken of.

It's pretty simple, it's another open door. Not like Robin who is there to guide us to read between the lines but as something that is open to interpret and rely on when they finally get together. It was made for when people start to question "where did this relationship came from?" and create assumptions like "it came out of the nowhere".

In the scene, Lucas, Max, Mike and Will go to Starcourt's movie theater to watch a horror movie together. When arguing about Mike's behavior, Lucas remarks that he is spending romantic time with his girlfriend by going there. When they are finally inside, lumax and byler sits separately, then things start to get really fishy.

The construction of the whole next part, when they are inside the movie theater, from the beginning of the movie to the black out and end of the scene, are basically hands. Hands everywhere. In the close ups, in the people around them and even in the movie. Why? For us to see it, to think of it, to imagine. To imagine what? It's up to you of course, but we know people hold hands at movie theaters, specially when watching a horror movie, and we also know byler is the main focus on that scene for some reason.

But they didn't show us their hands, did them? No. Because of that, no one can really say they were holding hands, but the same can't be said about them not holding their hands. The construction of the scene deliberately leads us to question the possibility, however there is no true answer. Like the Schorodinger Cat, they are holding and not-holding their hands.

Also, the "are you okay?" Mike says, the camera play and Noah's acting leads us to think that, if they are holding their hands, it was Mike's initiative, not Will's.

The whole scene is purposefully dubious.

Noah looks down at his hand at the end of the interaction, up again, and then smiles. It's there but they don't show us! At the same time, if it was an unromantic moment, they would've shown us they were holding hands as they did before, so why not? Mike's character construction and Finn's acting

I'm a ST fan since the beginning. I was here when the major public liked Jonathan better than Steve, when Mike was the favorite member of the party, and Finn was treated as one of the best child actors of the show. Looking back, it's pretty obvious things changed a lot since the third season.

Why things changed? In the last two seasons, Finn was accused of being "out of the character" and "having a bad acting". And Mike turned into a douchebag in public eyes.

The truth is: the way the writers had chosen to show us Mike changed. He still is the same insecure, paranoic, loyal, compassionate character who is a jerk sometimes from the beginning, but we didn't get the chance to see his POV since s2.

Mike is a character trapped in the expectations of the viewers. They expected him to date El, to love El as a girlfriend, to treat her the way she deserves - what he can do, but clearly not as a boyfriend. Their relationship wasn't scripted the way it happened, so his character needed to go through some changes to remain himself. And, of course, for mlvn to end, the viewers needed to hate his version with El. Again, it is a scape route.

His character is still the same, but the way we see him is different. The truth is the viewers expected Mike to acts towards El the way he did with Will after they started dating: unconditionally supportive, trusting, and understanding, but guess what? This was never on Mike's character to begin with.

He doesn't understand, trust, or support people unconditionally. They are showing how much he is inflexible and selective in what he wants to believe since the very first episode, we can see that in the relationship with his family and friends. Just remember his fights with Lucas in s1, s2 and s4 and Dustin in s2 and s3, they are his CHILDHOOD FRIENDS, but even them don't have the pleasure of Mike's unconditionally support and trust. The only character he is truly open to is Will.

These changes were made for us to see the difference between Will and the rest of the world for Mike. In season 3, when he appears to be a jerk to everyone, no exception at all, the only person he seems to retract this behavior for is Will. In season 4, Mike fights El and Will, but again, the only one he seems to understand and retract from his defenses for is Will. Again, the only person he is really open with.

Now, speaking about sexuality, the other reason for people to blame Finn's acting is the awkwardness in kissing and intimate scenes - like the first I love you he heard from his girlfriend.

I don't know about you, but for me, it is almost painful to watch them kissing. Not only kissing, the whole dating thing looks like a performance, and it's not a good one, if I may say. But here is the thing, it's on purpose! The same goes for the looks he gives Will's and Eddie's body.

Don't even think that every look, expression, or camera play is not calculated. These people spend so much money in the show for it to be half assed by bad acting or misinterpretation of the script.

Apparently people like things I make involving Cookie Run Kingdom. That's fantastic, honestly. Cheers to you all for that.

Unfortunately, I also put up a poll. And the result of that poll is... Gonna be wild.

So, it looks like I'm doing this. I'll be trying to color code this, and I probably won't get everything in there, but I have a good few to get out there.

Obviously, this will not contain pairs like Moonlight Cookie × Sea Fairy, as I don't aim for canon pairs. I like to expand on possibilities outside of currently established canon.

• 1 - BurningSpice×GoldenCheese — BurningCheese/GoldenSpice

A lot of people call it BurningCheese, but I feel GoldenSpice is a more apt name for the dynamic — if given the opportunity, through her divine radiance, Golden Cheese could refute all of his flawed ideology and show him that Change takes time - with her help, he could become so much better than he ever was. In her radiance, by her side, even his spice seems like gold.

• 2 - DarkCacao×CaramelArrow — DarkArrow/CaramelCacao

Oh, yeah, some people won't like this one. I've heard the complaints before, and I solemnly swear... I don't care. They deserve to be happy. He is a man that is constantly battling with Resolution — so stubborn, so driven, so stalwart in his beliefs, that he will do anything to ensure that it is so. She is a woman that holds her oath to be sacred, and will do anything for her king. She understands him implicitly, and it is so obvious that she would do anything to make his every vision a reality. I mean, even her WEDDING OUTFIT matches his Awakened outfit. Like, don't even take my word for it;

Just Look At Them!

• 3 - ShadowMilk×WhiteLily — ShadowLily

Is it fucked up? Yes. Are they good for each other? Probably not. Does the nuance in their duality get the gears in my brain turning, imagining the kind of combo where one is always being careful and meticulous, while the other is spontaneous and curious? Absolutely. Honestly, I didn't see it, but some artists in the community brought it home for me. Borderline crack ship, but that's where the fine line is.

• 4 - BlackLemonade×Werewolf — LemonadeWerewolf

Insert obligatory LemonWolf joke here — but, no, really. The two of them have such immense vibes. Whenever they talk, she is so supportive towards him. I feel like she could be the music that soothes the soul of the savage beast that lies in wait within him. Always the helpful shoulder to lean on, someone who understands having darkness inside but learning to shine in spite of it. Truly, an electric pairing for me.

• 5 - ShadowMilk×PureVanilla — PureMilk/ShadowNilla

Yeah. Yeah, y'all should have known this would be here. There is a point in which I have to respect that I like me some complications with a pairing. There's a sort of subtext with a lot of their interactions that can be read a very specific sort of way, and I like the dynamic of "goodie two shoes that wants to help" and "loser loner who knows everything except how he feels". Maybe problematic, but I try to look for the silver lining with things, and these two got some sort of chemistry.

• 6 - BlackRaisin×PureVanilla — PureRaisin

Honestly, I think it's pretty obvious that the connection between these two is pretty up there. BlackRaisin goes out of her way for that man time and time again, but he is too much of a himbo to realize that that poor woman has feelings for him. It's kinda cute, and I feel like they really could work well together — provided the blind man can open his eyes to what's right in front of him.

• 7 - PureVanilla×WhiteLily — PureLily

Basically the same as PureRaisin, but this is basically doomed to fail, because both of these bitches are bottoms and too dense to realize that they love each other. But, provided that Vanilla is suddenly smarter thanks to the events of Chapter 8, or White Lily figures out her bullshit in Chapters 9/10, only time will tell. Until then, this ship is a hard 7th Place.

@charlottecbordeaux made probably the best piece of artwork that there is for the two of them, which settled me on the ship, even after all the subtext. (As seen up above — go follow, honestly, you CANNOT find their kind of work elsewhere).

• 8 - WindArcher×StardustCookie — AstralWind

I was galvanized into believing in this ship by the pure amount of propaganda. Plus, I believe that Archer would be more than capable of soothing the Wrath of the Stars more than almost any cookie on Earthbread, just in how attuned he is to all life in the world. The two of them have so much going for them.

• 9 - PersianBlue/Cobalt×Camillia — BlueCamillia/CobaltCamillia

I have never seen two men that give off such vibes of comfortable closeness. Cobalt is a close and trusted friend of Camillia's, and I get the feeling that they have been through a good bit together. Together, these two can face through most trials and tribulations that would obscure their path, with might and charisma in equal proportion. They really just work amazingly well together.

• 10 - BlackForest×WeddingCake — BlackWedding

Look. I understand that Black Forest Cookie loves The Witches. And I love me a fucked up love dynamic like that. But Wedding Cake Cookie and Black Forest Cookie are such a pair, I think the two of them could be literally perfect for each other. Even when transformed, Wedding Cake didn't bat an eye towards her state of being, and instead just told her plainly that she wanted her to be happy. I'm not saying that they should be together just based off of that, but Wedding Cake is one of the only cookies outside of the St. Pastry Order that actually gives a shit about Black Forest, and beyond that, she doesn't have the most likely nefarious ulterior motives of The Order. I just think that they could be cute together.

Booths and stalls lined up both sides of various roads.

Rows of lanterns hung from the treelines to the lampposts.

Droves of people flocked. From wearing kimonos to just plain snuggly attire to battle the coldness.

Praying at the shrines to make wishes for the coming year came first.

After that, chaos ensued.

A squealing Nobara hurried over to embrace her lifelong friends Fumi-chan and Saori-chan before introducing them to Maki who was keeping it cool to Nobara's admiration.

Kento brushes something off Yu's scarred cheek only for the younger man to kiss his stern partner fully on the mouth.

A teasing Mai and Momo along with a reluctant but curious Kasumi dragging a stubborn blushing Kokichi off to doll him up with various trinkets and hats they spotted at various booths.

Ieiri and Utahime trying to catch some goldfish at one of those booths. Utahime shouting out her constant success at catching them fishes; her competitiveness shining through, and Ieiri calmly cheering her wife on.

Yuji laughed while Megumi and Junpei smiled at his radiant expression while chowing down on barbecue skewers together.

That was long before your salmon haired boi yelled out in alarm as a heated Todo chased him in his fervent pursuit to drag his brother off to see the Takada-chan's New Year's Eve live special screening at Shibuya crossing.

Noritoshi eating a kebab as Yuki filmed the whole chase beside him, aimed at Choso as he let Yuji jump into his arms and speed off with Todo right at their heels, dust clouds left in their wake.

Riko and Misato shooting darts at a gaming booth all to get the familiar looking, long as hell, rainbow dragon plush to the girls delight.

Atsuya dragged his bae Hiromi by his collar into the nearest bar just to get away from your group and drink to their retired hearts content.

Masamichi and Yoshinobu sharing sake in the place across from said bar.

Yuta kissed both Rika and Toge on their stuffed cheeks as their mouths were full of sweets; mochi cheeks he spotted in his mesmerized gaze.

Right before Panda, carrying plushies by the armful, dumped his winnings all over his ecstatic buddies.

Spotting Toji and Shiu amiss the crowd, eyeing his son as his protective brother instincts creaked out as he played tug of war with Tsumiki who was stubbornly set on kissing a dopey grinning Junpei some more as her lipstick marked his rosey cheek.

Toji snorted at the sight before being dragged off by the arm by Shiu, opting to get a better view, a less crowded spot at that.

Nanako and Mimiko running around with sparklers lite.

Tears filled up your eyes to the brim.

Seeing so much happiness.

So much positivity.

All amassing here.

All in this moment.

Together.

Your mind flashed.

What could have been …

Buildings sliced and diced to mince.

Magma erupts from the streets, encasing all in its range.

A circle of darkness that continues to grow.

No lights.

No life.

Barred from all.

You were getting caught up in your mind too much lately.

Thinking too much, wandering in too deep, letting intrusive thoughts cloud the light.

Your knees trembled, your grip slipping, you wrap around your belly, prepared to not let it get the brunt of the fall.

“Y/n!”

His long raven locks flowed in the breeze. His almond brown eyes are so vibrant and sharp and alive.

“Sugu!” You weeped immediately into his charcoal robes, grasping handfuls of his front, alarming him tremendously.

“Y/n! Be careful! What's wrong!?”

“I'm just so happy we're all together celebrating tonight!” Your waterworks hit him right in the face as he led you two to a bench to rest your bloated sore self.

“Tiredness, mood swings, they do come with pregnancy, love.” Suguru calmly explained as you clung to him, pulling your legs up to rest on the space left on the bench.

“Perhaps we should take you home early. I am terribly sorry if we pushed you too much with coming here … jeez. Now where did Satoru go this time?”

Warping right by your side nearly gave you a heart attack. Even still, you were never quite prepared for Toru's spontaneity.

Getting down on one knee, Satoru tenderly caressed and smooched your clothed bump. “Right here~!”

“Toru!” You yanked the man up by his sleeve, having him sit beside you as well as he draped your legs over his lap as he let you cuddle him and weep in his neck.

His shades titled down to reveal his devoted gaze as he carefully pulled you atop his lap, nuzzling your head as he exchanged smooches with Suguru. “Aww, wifey. It's okay. We're here. Just think. A new year. New hijinks. New possibilities!”

Suguru's head rested on your shoulder as his heated breath made you mewl. “And a new addition to our family.”

Viewing the kids all animated, the adults mingling, the buzz in the air, it all helped to ease the unrest in your hormonal self.

“I hope we can continue living out our somewhat sense of peace in the new year.” You murmured, humming as they gently smothered you in their plush chests and secure arms.

“Agreed.” Their giant sculpted hands felt your bump together, wistfully grinning as you smiled shedding tears of joy.

An upbeat song blared out through the speakers.

Next thing you know, few turned to many dancing.

Lost in paradise.

For a dance mob has formed.

Yugi, returning out of the blue, took the lead, bopping with his usual upbeat finesse.

Megumi wasn't dancing, more like bashfully scratching the back of his head, too shy to look anyone in the eye, until a beaming Yuji had him, helping his boyfriend loosen up.

Nobara twirled and swirled, tugging her girls in to all get in sync and flaunting their beautiful strong selves.

And Gojo, in all his glory, was swaying with style, cause of course he wanted to get down most of all. Yuta, Yuji, Megumi, even the twins flanked both his sides, strutting their stuff.

From Takuma to Choso to even Panda, everyone you knew found the groove. From found family to your work buddies. Even the tipsy adults. Even the former assassin and his handler buddy. Even a well disguised Nobuko who had her bodyguards on standby also in disguise warily kept their eyes on the heart eyed Aoi Todo.

The dancing flash mob you never expected to happen did in fact happen.

They clapped, they swayed, they spun, they did it all!

The ships sailed as many familiar faces knew how to dance so acrobatically well. Leave the sight to the imagination.

Fireworks began littering the sky.

The billboard's timer struck 00:00.

Cheers and claps rang as embraces were exchanged.

You giggled as Suguru Geto swept you up in his arms, cupping the back of your head and your cheek to kiss you passionately.

You just had to ask.

“Where would I be without all of you?”

Satoru warped again back to you just to smirk at your jump scare. “Probably bored out of your mind.” You and Suguru shut your white haired husband up by slapping his shoulders to his snickering amusement.

“It goes both ways, Satoru.”

“Aw, I love you too Suguru~” He pulled his shades up to rest on his head as those Six Eyes glowed with love for the growing life in your belly you three made together. “All of you.”

You two peppered kisses all over Satoru's laughing face as the rest of your found family danced the first night of the new year away.

It was mid January. Couple months after the Meireki Kaju battle. Most of the destroyed Yokohama was rebuilt and so the city decided on hosting its annual marathon event. As it was with all big festivals the JAKDF was taking part in it as both one of the vendors and also partial security. Just in case a kaiju alert happens during the festivities.

Mina as the face of the Force was sitting at the booth with a couple officers hoping to encourage future recruits. It wasn’t her favourite activity but it had its perks. She could get to know the people she was protecting and reassure herself in her work.

"Excuse me!" Suddenly a child, a familiar child, approached the table.

"Oh, hello," Mina smiled, leaning forward to look better at the small, yet determined citizen. "How can I help you?" She noted that there was no parent with her.

"Where is Uncle Kaiju?" The girl asked.

Mina's eyebrows went up. Uncle... kaiju? Her mouth curled a little bit upwards.

"I'm sorry but he wasn’t allowed to come in..." She explained, remorseful.

"Yukiko!" Suddenly a high pitched woman's shout reached them. "Yukiko! What did I tell you! You can't just disappear like this!!" The missing mother appeared. "I am so sorry, Captain..." She turned to Mina, bowing her head a little.

"But I want to meet Uncle Kaiju!! You promised!" Yukiko pouted, hugging a handmade doll of no. 8. She stomped her little foot to make her point.

"Yukiko!" Her mother scolded her. "You shouldn't be-"

"That's okay," Mina spoke out, raising her hand to calm the woman down. "Unfortunately, no. 8 cannot be among the crowd just to avoid panic or the excitement with his person but he is around."

The girl's face lit up instantly. “Can I meet him?!” She pressed her hands on top of the table and jumped up and down. “Pleasepleasepleasepleaseeeee?!”

“I’ll see what I can do,” Mina replied and gave the mother a reassuring look. “Kafka.” She used the communicator in her ear. “Could you drop by sector Gamma?”

“Is there a problem?” He immediately responded sounding battle ready.

“No, but there’s someone really eager to meet you,” she said as she petted Yukiko’s head. “We’ll be there in 5.” 

By the time they got to the small camp the Defence Force set up for themselves, Kafka was already waiting for them there. Yukiko upon seeing the kaiju, immediately let go of her mom’s hand and darted straight to Kafka, tackling his leg.

“Uncle Kaiju!!” 

Kafka looked at her, speechless for a brief moment, then at the mother who was rather pale at the moment. Then he glanced at Mina, who just smiled giving him a silent encouragement. So he looked back down at the little girl and smiled back.

“Heeey! It’s you!” He knelt down and ruffled the girl’s hair.

“You remember me?!” Yukiko gasped.

“Of course! How could I forget! You were the one who helped me the most!” He said and the girl grinned so wide, he was afraid her face would split. 

“U-um, Yu-yukiko, how about you give the officer-” Yukiko’s mom looked at Captain Ashiro if she was using the right term. She didn’t want to insult the most powerful kaiju in the world by accident. Captain nodded back at her. “-the officer, the drawing you made?”

“Oh yeah!” The girl reached into a small bag she had on herself and pulled out a neatly folded drawing. “See! This is you! This is me, this is the cool older brother and this is my mom!” She showed it to Kafka who studied it closely. 

“Wow! You’re quite an artist!”

“Yes! And mommy helped me make this!” Yukiko proudly lifted the No. 8 doll she had.

Kafka oooh’ed in amazement, taking the doll carefully in his hands. “That’s so cool. It’s a little me!”

“Yes! But I might need to make another one, you look different now,” Yukiko said, saddened a little. 

Kafka hummed, trying to come up with a solution to cheer the girl up. 

“We can take a few pictures with you and Number 8 so you can have a reference for the new doll,” Mina spoke up. 

“Oh, please, don’t trouble yourself!” The mother sounded flustered. “We have already intruded…”

“That’s not a problem at all!” Kafka interrupted her. “I always can make time for my biggest fan and you already have permission from Captain Ashiro!”

“Yaaaay!!” 

“Let’s move away from the tents and closer to the trees, though,” Mina suggested. Better not catch any of the military installments in the shot. 

“Let’s have a race then!” Kafka suggested it to Yukiko. 

The girl nodded with enthusiasm. 

“On three!” Kafka began to count. “One, twoooooooo…… two and three quarterssss…. three! Go!” 

The girl squealed and began to run full speed of her tiny legs. Kafka followed at leisurely jog speed, letting her win. 

“Noo! I have been beaten! I can’t catch my breath! So tired!” He fell to his knees, pretending to be out of breath, then faked his death, laying down in the grass, letting his tongue loll out. The girl giggled. 

“You’re really silly.” She poked his face. Kafka didn’t react. “Uncle Kaiju?” Now Yukiko got worried.

Suddenly! Kafka grabbed onto the girl and lifted her up as he sat up. “Rawr! I have snatched a human child! There are no brave officers from the Defence Force to save her!” 

Mina and Yukiko’s mother who were right behind them arrived. Mina shook her head. Kafka and his antics… Yukiko herself laughing and kicking her feet in the air jail Kafka put her in.

“Terrible Kaiju!” She called making her hand into the shape of a gun. “I’m Captain Mina Ashiro of the Third Division! You will release the hostage!”

“Gasp!” He said. “I surrender!” He set Yukiko down. “I am no match for the Great Captain Ashiro!” He raised his arms up. “Have mercy!”

“No mercy for kaiju menace!” Mina said with a serious face. “Blam!”

Kafka faked his death once more, adding more sound effects to himself dying. Yukiko ran to her mother giggling. In the meantime Mina helped Kafka get up from the grass.  

“You’re really giving your all here, huh?” She asked him.

“I meant what I said - that fight when I saved them from that yonju - I was ready to give up, but this girl putting her faith in me, despite being so scared? How could I not…” Kafka said quietly, eyeing the mother and daughter discreetly.

“The girl’s name is Yukiko, by the way,” Mina whispered to him.

“God it, thank you.” He winked at her with 3 of his 6 eyes. “So!” He called their guests. “Pictures!” 

“Yes!!” Yukiko shouted and pulled her mom with her. “Uncle! Let’s make that smile face!”

“Which one?” He tilted his head to the side.

“Smiiiileee” Yukiko imitated his initial, terrible, attempt at a kaiju smile, stretching her mouth with the help of her fingers.

Kafka could hear the little snort and giggle of Mina behind him. “Well, if that’s what you want…” 

The two of them made silly faces. As well as the more genuine one when Yukiko’s mom joined them. Yukiko also got to talk with Kafka about his fights with other kaiju, imitating his punches and kicks. She also got to sit on Kafka’s shoulder as he carried her to the exit of the Gamma sector.

“Uncle, do you see out of these?” She pointed to his extra eyes.

“Yup! I can see a little bit more around me,” he replied.

“Your horns are really cool!” 

“Thank you.”

“Uncle, will you always protect us?” She asked, rubbing her eyes a little. 

“Yup! That’s a promise,” he said and lifted his pinky finger to her.

She wrapped her much smaller pinky around his. “Promise!”

“Now!” He set her down next to her mother. “Be good to your mom, study hard and maybe in the future, you can too become a super cool officer of the Defence Force and we can beat kaiju up together!” 

“Okay!” She nodded with an enthusiastic conviction. Then she yawned.

“This was a lot of excitement for today,” Yukiko’s mom smiled softly and picked her daughter up. “Thank you. You’re really good with children.”

“Eh, that’s really nothing.” Kafka replied. 

The woman bowed a little to both him and Mina, thanking them again before walking away. Yukiko, barely awake in her mother’s arms, waved a little at them. Soon, they disappeared in the crowd. 

“Who knew you’d have such a devoted fan, eh Kafka?” Captain eyed him from the corner of her eyes as Kafka turned around bawling his eyes out with happy tears. He really kept it in for a long time.

A week later. 

“Hey, Kafka! You’ve got mail!” One of the post officers handed Kafka a thick bundle of letters.

“Me?” Kafka held the bundle in his hands.

“What? Old Timer has a fanclub now?!” Iharu said in disbelief.

“Let’s open them, sir!” Reno encouraged him.

The very first one was a handwritten letter from Yukiko. There was a drawing attached. She drew their meeting with him carrying her on his shoulder. She wrote how she told everyone at her primary school about meeting him and that her mom made her a second doll. Kafka smiled to himself reading the entire thing. The kid reminded him of himself and Mina, when they were still small. He was sure she would go far. 

The other letters were from her classmates. It made Iharu laugh at him but Kafka didn’t mind. He met his biggest fan. And that was enough to keep going.

(What makes a great audiobook?) Honestly, I think it comes down to whether or not the narrator is a fan of the book that they're reading. I've seen fans embracing the narrators of my audiobooks, just, Elizabeth Evans, who I adore, people have come up to her on the street recognizing her. And she's actually in the process of re-recording all of the ACOTAR audiobooks to be released with the 10th anniversary of ACOTAR this spring.

(What can we expect from the next ACOTAR?) *Chuckles* I'm not gonna tell you guys anything! No surprise, it's going to be a long book. It's too early for me to who it will be about, and what's going to happen, but I hope to have more details for you soon.

The ACOTAR books are being re-recorded by Elizabet Evans for the ACOTAR 10th anniversary in May.

It looks like we get ACOTAR 5 news relatively soon! Like, before or during May.

As for the ship war (ugh I hate to even call it that since one side is right and the rest are delusional lol)...

I already know the next book is Elain's, with Azriel as the MMC, for 2 reasons:

The text hints directly toward this, the same way that before ACOSF Nesta was the clear FMC of the book.

mario fanfiction prompts: bowser x luigi (PART 4)

based on bad luck/ friday the 13th

luigi loses his ID in a different kingdom during an adventure and bowser's his only transportation, possible deal making/ owing favors

bowser's or one of his kids' clown cars breaks down and they have to get help from luigi (and mario if you include him), owing him a favor

bowser and luigi get cursed together, luigi's clumsier than usual because of nerves and keeps bumping into things/ accidentally hurting himself, bowser doesn't get the boo boos but he feels every hit

something goes wrong with the koopa castle's/ ship's plumbing, they have to call the bros, mario's doing another job so luigi shows up

-it's a big job and troops/ bowser's kids keep destroying what he fixed (on purpose or by accident) and he has to keep coming back

someone runs out of toilet paper while the people they're living with are out

after a series of poor date experiences either bowser or luigi go on a last ditch blind date, the person never shows up, bowser/ luigi sits down with them and pretends that they were late

either bowser or luigi keeps losing races during mario kart, the other awkwardly tries to cheers them up

either bowser or luigi accidentally summons the other, my idea for this was that if luigi summons bowser then bowser's king of the demons, and if bowser summons luigi then luigi was meant as some kind of warrior against the other kingdoms or a romantic partner

- maybe mario and luigi found a book and were doing it as a joke but luigi got a paper cut and it got on the summoning circle thing, so that's why bowser likes him more/ listens to and tries to make a deal with luigi instead of mario - maybe luigi was drawing or crocheting for funsies and accidentally made a summoning pattern - maybe bowser's troops/ kids summoned luigi, hoping it'd be another princess on equal standards as peach so that their boss/ dad would get over her but now they have luigi (he ends up being cool tho)

that thing where you accidentally trip and kiss/ kabedon the other (if bowser trips on luigi they either topple over or luigi catches him cuz strong)

bowser texts a flirt to the wrong number (luigi's)

luigi confesses to the wrong number (bowser's) because he was too nervous to do it in person

bowser and luigi are text friends and go to meet in real life only to find out it was the other, some accusations and misunderstandings happen (you were tricking me! just to see me vulnerable1 that's low, even for you)

mario pretends to be peach (super crown power up + hair dye), gets captured by bowser, but it ends up that bowser captured 'her' to ask for advice on how to hit on luigi and now mario's not sure how to react (personally i think he'd be confused and weirded out but supportive)

bowser surprise attacks peach's room, captures her, and immediately marries her in the dark; it was either luigi in disguise (a trap) or luigi and peach switched rooms because of a normal reason (it's getting renovated from the last attack)

bowser gets a bad haircut from a new hairdresser and luigi's one of the only ones who can fix it cuz they know that the plumber has pride in his own grooming
