Raybearer is so good! I loved it. It's a bit weirdly paced and has it's fair share of traits that define it as a young adult book (Things that are common in books aimed at that demographic) It's very creative and thoroughly enjoyable, I enjoyed the magic system and the world.
#eta#raybearer#I enjoyed it so much more than Blood and Bone or Blood Scion#or a song of wraiths and ruin#Those books are not bad!!! (Well. I think they're quite average.)#I just think Raybearer is better XD#my Issues with the other ones are that they are -generic- plot and character and even sometimes magic wise despite drawing on inspirations#not often highlighed in books published in the US#(Blood Scion at least is Somewhat memorable so it ranks a middle distant second to Raybearer)#But if you held a knife to my throat and told me to say ANYTHING specific to A Song of Wraiths and ruin ( 1 MC suffers from migraines?)#or Blood and Bone (Legit cannot remember anything about it)#(Other than like tropes)#Enemy prince love interest#mc is the chosen one with unique powers#Actually thats a thing I really enjoy about Raybearer!! The reason the MC has her abilities is well realized and makes perfect sense#It's a very good feminist story!

DEMO || FORUM || CONTENT WARNING
Vessel of Harkahn is an upcoming 18+ fantasy interactive novel that takes inspiration from the Dragon Age series, TTRPGs, A Song of Ice and Fire, as well as several other pieces of media.
⚡️ The Short Demo is complete! (As of 08/08/24)
⚡️ The Forum and Content Warning pages are a WIP! (As of 06/29/24)
When the Grand Duke of Le Versare is assassinated, his surviving children are left to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives.
With hardly any time to mourn their father, the Aurelios twins are approached by a mage who has suspicion to believe the assassination is tied to several events across the continent.
The mage also believes demonic influence in involved.
Many months after the assassination, Carlise Aurelios and Varre Delatore have discovered the resurgence of the demon Harkahn. The demon feasts on hatred and chaos but is much weaker than his first appearance centuries ago.
Harkahn now requires a vessel to survive in the mortal plane. He has yet to become strong enough to shed his vessel and exist in his demonic form.
You are his chosen vessel. Or, at least, you were.
After exorcising the demon from you, Carlise and Varre recruit you into the Band of Althor to aid their cause of defeating Harkahn. Seeing as you were his vessel, you have priceless intel on the demon's mind. You may have insight to his plans or possible weaknesses.
The only issue? You can't remember anything from your time possessed and even memories from before are foggy and shrouded. Trying to remember these lost memories causes you immense physical pain.
For now, you must find another way to help Carlise and Varre's cause.
⚡️ Create and customize your MC "The Vessel".
⚡️ Play as male, female or nonbinary.
⚡️ Play as an Elf, Half-Elf or Human.
⚡️ Choose from three classes to play from; Warrior, Rogue or Mage. Each class has its own unique Mentor.
⚡️ Shape your skills as you play.
⚡️ Six romance options to choose from alongside secret routes to discover as the story progresses. (All romance options are romanceable regardless of gender.)
⚡️ Help recruit others throughout Caadvir to join the Band of Althor. There is strength in numbers.
⚡️ Discover more about your lost memories and the significance of your Mentor.
Asan Aurelios || The Heir || Human
As the older one of the twins, Asan is the hereditary Grand Duke. He has big shoes to fill after his father's long and peaceful reign. Despite the weight on his shoulders, Asan keeps a bright smile on his face and pushes forward. He is more than supportive of Carlise's efforts to dispose of Harkahn, he just has other political matters to attend to.
Asan hails from the province Le Versare.
Carlise Aurelios || The Leader || Human || RO
As the younger one of the twins, Carlise doesn't hold as much weight to her shoulders. The line of succession has passed to her brother, which allows her to focus entirely on disposing of the demon Harkahn. She is calculating and, at times, cold. Carlise is the founder and leader of the Band of Althor and is greatly respected.
Carlise hails from the province Le Versare.
Varre Delatore || The Mage || Elf || RO
Varre is an extremely talented and powerful mage. He has spent many years studying and mastering magic at the White Tower of Castavel. His knowledge and experience is what drove him to discover Harkahn's resurgence and its influence throughout Caadvir. Varre approached Carlise and Asan about their father's assassination and its relation to Harkahn and has been by their side ever since. He aided Carlise in founding the Band of Althor.
Varre hails from the province Castavel.
Ewan Geraunt || The Viper || Human || RO
Ewan is part of the mercenary group called the Vipers of Venoss. They are regarded as the best mercenary group throughout Caadvir and some of their numbers have been worked all across the world. Ewan is a higher ranking member of the Vipers, but left the group shortly after experiencing an odd dream. After learning his birthplace suffered an attack from Harkahn, he immediately turned to the Band of Althor to serve their cause.
Ewan hails from the province Venoss.
Dea || The Halfblood || Half-Elf || RO
Dea had no place in Ordaire. As a place still ruled by their distaste for humans, half-elfs are heavily frowned upon and outcast by society. She spent many years in and out of street and bar fights alike. Like Ewan she found herself in a mercenary band, but unlike him it didn't last too long. She jumped from band to band, job to job, until she landed on the Band of Althor. She works for Carlise now but who knows how long that will last?
Dea hails from the province Ordaire.
Kizan Fremont || The Knight || Human || RO
The Fremont family have long been allies of the Aurelios family. Kizan's father before him served the Grand Duke of Le Versare as his protector. The mantle was passed to Kizan a few years prior to the assassination. He is the Knight Commander of Le Versare's Order of Cor. While his duties keep him busy most of the time, Kizan will always find time for himself and make the most of it.
Kizan hails from the province Le Versare.
Amysa Briarfel || The Apprentice || Human || RO
Amysa has spent much time studying magic at the White Tower of Castavel. She plans to become a Mentor at the tower, which has earned her the title of Apprentice. Part of Amysa's apprenticeship is traveling throughout Caadvir and assisting different noble houses. When she finally landed upon House Aurelios, she willingly chose to put her apprenticeship on hold to stay and help the Band of Althor.
Amysa hails from the province Xinthe.
Préaux || Warrior Mentor || Human
Préaux is a well-known and respected knight from Itresse. They served the Grand Duke of Itresse for many years before retiring and disappearing entirely. Préaux earned many nicknames throughout their life like 'The Saint of Silver' and 'The Silver Serpent'.
Préaux hails from the province Itresse.
Jaq the Grin || Rogue Mentor || Half-Elf
Jaq the Grin is an infamous thief who terrorizes Caadvir. They have never been caught or really seen. Those who claim to have witnessed Jaq state that the only thing they could remember from the encounter was Jaq's impossibly huge grin, which earned them their nickname.
Jaq the Grin hails from the province Ordaire.
Erina || Mage Mentor || Elf
Erina is a Mentor at the White Tower of Castavel. Having served many years as a Mentor, Erina is highly respected and not a force to be trifled with. Many students of Erina have gone forth to achieve greatness in their lives, such as serving a Grand Duke or King or Queen.
Erina hails from the province Venoss.

FAQ
Grey Swan I - Birds of a Rose
The Divine Flock. Some call them crazy, some even dangerous. Some even say the cult is hiding dark secrets. But, in all your life you have yet to find one. After all you should know should there be any dark secrets: you are a member after all! A member, not only of the Divine Flock, but also of the Avis Academy, the best school the cult has. Your life is quiet and follows a strict routine, at least until two Strays from the outside, the normal, world are allowed in the normally so closed off grounds and as a newly appointed Wing it is your job to keep an eye on one of them. With their arrival some of those dark secrets may finally come to light…
You ARE not playing as a BIRD!!!
New demo https://dashingdon.com/play/wolv/grey-swan---birds-of-a-rose/mygame/
Old demo https://dashingdon.com/go/13119
Genre: Urban Fantasy, Dark Academia.
Moniker for MC: Wing MC.
Genderselectable MC: cis male or female, trans male or female. However due to growing up in a cult, MC wont know that trans is a thing/what it means, this is something MC can learn about. The same goes for sexual orientation: play as gay, bi, straight, aroace or ace, but be prepared for consequences.
Pick your level of devotion: be a devout follower of the teachings of the Divine Flock, reject it partly or wholly, or simply not care. All of it will have consequences.
Choose one of various school clubs, your volery, and get an unique storyline. Ranging from dance to school security, to managing your social media page.
Important people: Your flock, a group of younger pupils you were responsible for before the Strays arrived. You may not be their Wing on paper anymore, but you still hold a special place in their heart! They do miss you and are looking forward giving you a present on your birthday!
Your volery: whichever volery you joined, you are going to met pupils that are just as enthusiastic about your chosen interest as you are! Some more than others.
Your parents. It’s another question if the relationship between you is good, but important it surely is!

Grey Swan II - Hawks and Doves
Unless otherwise stated you are playing as a normal human! Two legs, two arms, internal organs, hopefully a brain too. We will see how much of this organ stays intact after state propaganda, will we?
Someone once said that you were the most happiest youth in the world after the Great Heartbeat, that had shattered the old world. Earlier you would have agreed in a heartbeat, wearing the light green uniform of your state youth organisation. But now? When war has come to Avistrions shores and news reels show only destruction ?
Choose your gender, way of thinking and stance while growing up in a religious dictatorship on the giant island Avistrion. Be a devout follower of the Divine Flock, the only thing that survived the earthquake that devastated the earth. Or be the Vulture, trying to rip it to shreds, while wearing the badge of youth leadership… where will you be when war strikes your so closed off country? Which side will you be on when it ends? Will you even survive long enough to see the outcome?

Are we the only lightning weaver or are there others in our school? Also is it just the lightning itself that we control or could we possibly create storms too?
Also do the deities have a say in how their blessings are used?
If you’re familiar with Avatar: The Legend of Aang/Korra—the concept of weaving is heavily inspired by the show :D
The main elements are fire, water, earth, and air. Those who can weave sub-elements of the four like ice, metal, etc. are mostly pure-bloods.
Other lightweavers exist yes, but even so their main element will always be fire. They can’t tap into lightning’s full potential like MC can—whose main element is lightning.
MC is one of the few chosen, people who have been blessed with a unique sub-element as their primary weave...
That’s all I can say for now. ;D
And yes it is just lightning/electricity itself, so no generating storms unfortunately.
Normally, deities don’t have control over their chosen, so they choose carefully on who they pick; only the ones with potential to grow into a long bloodline. They have to because it’s a limited ability; it’s literally their life and power source.
But not every deity has the same capabilities, like the chosen, they have their own anomalies too.
They have their own drama up there 👀

why you should read Mystic Prince if you enjoyed ORV
Mystic Prince / Prince of Myolyeong (묘령의 황자) is a fantasy and action-adventure manhwa with art & story by Aheuredal (아흐레달) and in my humble opinion, an absolute hidden gem. it's literally one the best manhwas i've ever read (among the top 2) and i've finally gathered my thoughts enough to try to articulate why i love it so much, and hopefully convince you to give it a chance!
here's the official summary on webtoon:
An immortal emperor rules the Kingdom of Yeol, a divine country blessed by gods with awesome powers. After a thousand years of peaceful rule, the time has come for a new emperor to be chosen. This is determined by a series of trials, in which twenty princes with special powers who have trained since birth must compete. As all princes of varying personalities and agendas gather to partake in the trials, intrigue and possibly even bloodshed seem all but certain. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the other princes, the Fourth Prince Jeok-yeon Ryu hides a secret he must guard with his life.
anyway i literally made a carrd for this, that's how much i care about this manhwa and i worked very hard on it!! you can find the carrd here*
(* also if you hate daily pass like me pls note that there's a fan translation as well! just keep in mind that some episodes have ost but you can find the links to youtube on the carrd as well. but if you enjoy it please do try to leave likes, comments, and a good rating on webtoon to support the creator!)
Mystic Prince is incredibly unique in terms of story and execution that i can't really compare it to anything else but here's why i think you'll enjoy it, especially if you also liked orv:
strong-willed MC who's not naturally skilled but works extremely hard
said MC is willing to suffer and hurt themselves to achieve their goals (aka kim dokja-esque tendencies)
seemingly cold and aloof ML with yoo joonghyuk vibes at first, naturally gifted and seems to look down on everyone
...but is actually head over heels for MC and just doesn't know how to express his feelings
ensemble cast of incredibly complex and well-developed characters with different personalities and motivations
MC seems a little dense at times but they have a tragic backstory that explains why they're Like That
incredibly bisexual vibes !! like literally off the charts
slowburn romance that is cooking up such a great meal
MC and ML have actually known each other for centuries
characters go through trials that involve risking death
extremely unique lore and world-building
i said ML before but there are actually multiple potential MLs with how much complexity all the character dynamics have
beautiful character designs (literally over 10+ within the main cast and they're all so unique)
evocative writing and heartfelt monologues that seem taken out of a book of pure poetry
narratively significant motifs of fire and water (à la orv's black/white and reader/protagonist)
profound and realistic depiction of the inner feelings and troubles that the characters go through
incredibly heart-wrenching original soundtrack! (actually made me cry)
some of the most gorgeous art i've seen in any manhwa (seriously pls just open the 1st episode and look at the first few panels)
[spoilers below for chapter ~10]
delicious gender fuckery
MC is actually cross-dressing afab (i personally hc them as genderqueer; korean doesn't have gendered pronouns but the official tl uses she/her pronouns)
bonus: they're built like a fucking tank (as seen here) like hello??? which is so refreshing to see for an afab MC
plus they're also canonically lacking in empathy but still deeply compassionate which again is really refreshing
i'm sure there's even more stuff i'm forgetting but these are just some reasons off the top of my head why i think this manhwa is so amazing
please do give Mystic Prince a chance, it's an absolute delight!! there are multiple beautiful covers but here's a couple of them, BE ART BAITED <3
and finally some of my personal reactions to Mystic Prince and also a note regarding the content warnings under the cut!
feel free to skip this part lol but personally when i look for recs, i love when people tell me their emotional reactions and how passionate they are about it! so if this tells you anything,
this is the ONLY manhwa to have made me cry so far (yes that includes the orv webtoon, but not the novel ofc) like actually ugly sobbing with snot and tears and everything lmao
(it's not all sad though! this manhwa will have you clutching your heart one moment and then cackling out loud the next)
and it's also the ONLY manhwa i've ever spent actual money on before the fan tl picked it up just so i could read the advanced chapters (i'm notoriously cheap so this says a lot imo)
and i'm not alone in this, every other comment on webtoon is people saying the exact same thing. the general consensus is that this is 100% a hidden gem (webtoon DP my behated why'd you have to shoot yourself in the foot like that)
also regarding the content warnings on the carrd: this was my first time making a list of cws (i don't think anyone else has made one yet?) and i was a little hesitant to add them, so i sincerely apologize if i missed anything!! if anyone else has anything else to add (cws or otherwise) then please feel free to send me a message and i'll be happy to edit it!!
(btw this was inspired by this post which is also a great summary for why u should read a cnovel called mist unlimited)

season 1 of obey me spoilers btw
i like the idea that since it was so long ago that lilith got reincarnated that theres just dozens of people who are liliths decendents. mc isnt actually that special theres a bunch of people running around with busted magic but have no idea
You know, anon, I think that has to be how it is???? I mean they definitely make it sound like MC is unique because of it, but that really doesn't make sense.
So like I did that whole DNA test thing (my whole dang family said they were gonna do it & have their kits but so far my dad and I are the only ones who have actually mailed back our spit), and it's constantly telling me I have new third and fourth cousins or whatever.
I think it makes a lot of sense that there are probably a decent amount of Lilith's descendants.
Also depending on how far back it was that Lilith was alive, it just make sense to me that her DNA would have spread more than just straight down the line to MC.
I always kinda felt like it was implied that Lilith somehow influenced MC being chosen (why am I remembering something about MC's application somehow catching Lucifer's eye or something?? am I crazy???). If that was the case, then perhaps it was like... okay yes this is one of my many descendants, but this particular one also has the capacity to be a demon therapist lol. So I'm making sure they get chosen!
Either way, I think it's really funny to think about all these peeps in the human world with that lil bit angelic power. I kinda want them all to meet up just to see what would happen with their magic all in one place.
#I guess the game can just claim that it's different with angelic power or something#it only manifests in one in one thousand descendants or some such thing#but where's the fun in that huh?#obey me#obey me lilith#spoilers#obey me spoilers#obey me mc#anon asks#misc answers

Humans have made their peace with the supernatural a long time ago.. all of them, except the demons.
Ten years ago Archangel Michael swooped down from the Heavens to give humans a new salvation, a solution to their pest problem, a little thing they called H.E.L.L. - Heaven's Eradication of Lethal Lowborns.
Ever since then the demons have been under control. Until recently -unexpected, right?- after a series of kidnappings conducted by a cult calling themselves The Morningstar's Children. Ever since, H.E.L.L. has been cracking down hard on the lowborns.
And well, Lucifer Morningstar (The President of Hell Themself and Michael's sibling) is having none of that.
In retaliation, she sends you, a demon, to infiltrate H.E.L.L., and take it down.. from the inside!
OR, a celestial sibling rivalry goes a bit too far.
FEATURES (May Change!):
Play as a lowborn/demon! Male, female or nonbinary (including cis/trans options); gay, straight or aro/ace; be the vessel for Lucifer’s revenge against her sibling by.. hunting your own kind? What?
In-depth character customization! Hair color & style, skin color, body type, markings, piercings, etc!
Choose how you got chosen for the job! Are you a demonic assassin or are you just an average joe who happened to be walking by?
Romance one out of four unique romance options! Your demonic co-worker, a demon hunter and TWO archangels (that’s right!)
Cause chaos and shenanigans! Get Michael’s coffee wrong, mess up an investigation and let demons escape H.E.L.L.’s grasp! It’s what you’re here for!
Discover the mystery behind the disappearances, and who's really behind The Morningstar's Children!
Help Lucifer Morningstar win her election against her son Satan, or sabotage it!
Levithan (He/Him): Demonic Overlord, Son of Lucifer, Sin of Envy. You'd expect a guy with that description to be pretty full of himself, but instead he seems pretty tired and over-worked. He's been tasked by Lucifer to infiltrate H.E.L.L. alongside you- why? It's anyone's guess at this point. (Possible Tropes: bickering couple, tired x energetic, tol x smol)
Yavhi Gupta (They/Them): Stubborn, rude and cold-hearted. They've been working for H.E.L.L. since they were able to join, and they're one of the toughest, roughest demon hunters around. They don't joke or play around, they go straight for the kill each time. Unlucky for you then, that you've been assigned to train underneath them for the foreseeable future. (Possible Tropes: enemies to lovers, opposites attract, black cat x golden retriever)
Raquel (She/Her): Fierce, witty and loyal to the end. When her best friend left Heaven, she followed right after. Now, she works as a detective alongside him and they've been hired by an outside source to investigate The Morningstar's Children, as H.E.L.L. can't seem to do anything right, and she'll do anything to find out the truth; even if it means teaming up with a lowborn like you. (Possible Tropes: fwbs to lovers, smart x dumbass)
Gabriel (He/Him): Quiet, yet lethal and dangerous. He left Heaven for a reason, but now works alongside his friend as a detective. He's the brawn of the operation, but just as willing to do anything to get the truth... even if you get the feeling he knows more than it seems. (Male MCs only. Possible Tropes: Mutual pining, star-crossed lovers, quiet x loud)
Lucifer Morningstar (She/They): As the Sin of Greed, she's the father (mother?) of all the other deadly sins, and the current President of Hell- though with reelections soon, and her subjects looking in their son's, Satan's, favor, that might change soon. Which is why they sent you on the quest to take down H.E.L.L., so her rep would get a serious boost. She's conniving, scheming and pantsuit wearing, and will stop at nothing to keep her spot on top. (And I love her.)
Michael (They/Them): The most powerful Archangel of them all, it was obvious that one day, they'd become the humans savior, their saving grace.. uh, not really, but they love the praise. Recently however they've been under fire from the human media after a slip-up resulted in the deaths of six people, but they managed to save grace by capturing and promptly executing a few lowborns connected to The Morningstar's Children. (Which, In Raquel's professional opinion, puts them right at the top of her list of suspects.)
Shae (She/Her): A vampire and the one who hired Raquel and Gabriel after the kidnapping of her son Damien at the hands of The Morningstar's Children.

I truly think SVSSS deserves a revision more than any of MXTX's other novels.
I love the novel, yes, but it is poorly written. MXTX rushed the chapters after Bbingqiu's reunion due to using VIP lock for the first time and it makes the writing distinctly worse. I understand that she was young while writing it, which is the whole reason why it deserves a revision. The novel could have so much more potential than it currently does and it's no wonder that it's her least popular when even fans of her other novels choose to not read it due to being uninterested.
So much more story could be added, or just minor details. For example, we barely know anything about the 12 peaks all together, and unless you make up facts, there's practically nothing on their peak lords too. I see complaints about the SVSSS wiki being empty regarding the peak lords and I hate to say it, but that's NOT due to the moderators but rather pure lack of content. Hell, most of the facts that do existed were only in the light novel and not in the web novel at all. There's such little information it's really not shocking that the fandom runs on head-canons. In all 100 chapters of her novel, half of it in slightly plot, while the other is SQQ being... SQQ.
I have so many thoughts on the potential SVSSS has:
Despite it being mentioned that there are 'plenty of minor sects' we only hear the name of one.
Despite sects like Tian Yi or Zhao Hua being a part of the main 4, we know almost nothing about them, how they run, or their disciples/sect lead (literally the only named Tian Yi disciples are the 3 nuns). We also don't know their locations, what locations they control, or their history
The past events of SVSSS (before SY transmigrated) are so messy. Theres only 2 timelines I've found here on tumblr and even those are so different from each other. Theres no clear years compared to TGCF or MDZS and its so frustrating. This also leaves characters practically age-less (other than like. Binghe) unlike her other characters.
Almost none of the side-characters grow development with anyone other than Shen Qingqiu. I say 'almost' but I can not name any off the top of my head. There are characters that have/had such interesting relationships that were completely thrown out the window For The Plot. This is so.... disappointing, considering other character's relationships make up the plot! It's not only the MC!
Everything being rushed is heartbreaking, and with a re-write I think arcs such as the Holy Mausoleum, Jin Lan, Borderlands, etc could become SO much more interesting. Alongside that, the Mai Gu Ridge situation was blown off so fast?? Like, it was mentioned that the Endless Abyss was breaking through CCM, then just never mentioned again...
Power Scaling. Fights. Actual fights between people who aren't LGQ or LBH. We only really got NYY/LPM, MBJ/his uncle, and TLJ/LBH. Most of those were ALSO rushed.
The System's appearance was reduced LARGELY in the later chapters-almost like MXTX forgot about them. The whole first 2 volumes include The System so much, and its unique! functions! all for it to be disregarded and those functions to never be used other than the jade necklace.
Actually going into the wonderous world of PIDW that is claimed to have interesting weapons (only Xin Mo was shown), locations, plants (only Qingsi and that one thats too long for me to feel like typing shown), and creatures (only rly ZZL and Madam Meiyin shown).
That's all I really have right now. I'm not trying to be an anti of MXTX's other novels. I just think that SVSSS has so much potential that she could have brought out if she had chosen to revise it. I love TGCF and MDZS very much, they have great scaling, brought-out potential, and relationships that SVSSS so could have.
I do want to exclaim that out of all her 3 novels SVSSS has been my favorite for years. I genuinely feel upset that it was not the one picked despite how obvious it is that it has barely any NEW content. Or at the least, confirmed facts. In her QNA's most of the questions are purely MDZS/TGCF while there's maybe 2 SVSSS ones. Those few questions answered by her are literally lifelines for some fans. (Such as heights and Moshang) The novel could become popular just if the criticisms/potential of it were actually addressed. I'm not saying that casually but I am very sure of it as MXTX is a freakishly great writer and she COULD take the novel to the same heights as TGCF/MDZS if she truly wanted to.

Thrust into the magical yet unpredictable world of the Devildom, they soon discover they are no mere exchange students. Ancient prophecies whisper of their arrival, destined to be the key to defeating a primordial evil that threatens to consume all realms and the prince's soul.
As they navigate a world of adventure, intrigue and wonder, these heroes must learn to harness their unique abilities while forging unbreakable bonds with the Devildom's Prince, the angels, a cunning sorcerer, an enigmatic butler and the alluring demon brothers.
With the fate of all worlds hanging in the balance, our heroes must confront their deepest fears and embrace their destinies as the chosen ones. Thrilling adventures filled with action, romance, and supernatural powers await as they battle ancient forces and unravel the secrets of the Devildom.
(So pretty much Ensemble Stars, Sailor Moon, Love Live and Power Rangers smashed together)

Just wanted to mention this because I’m finally getting to revise this scene within the second part and I’m excited to talk about it! When the MC gets to Aurelian, and the dorm you’ll be staying in, you’ll be able to choose your rooms design. (Since Aurelian Academy is enchanted, the magic will happily oblige.)
And, yes, each one will potentially offer unique reactions from the various characters.
You’ll be able to choose from these:
Cozy: A crackling hearth sends off a gentle glow throughout the room, something that only exemplifies the dark color palettes strewn throughout: showcased in the deep engravings within the wooden walls, in the plush rug stretched in front of a couch within the small sitting area situated in the corner of the room. It’s a place that radiates warmth, safety, and a general feeling of home.
Elegant: Tastefully chosen decor— from the leather sectional to the hand-engraved bookshel, and even the beautifully crafted stained glass window— complements the overall feel of the room, as well as the beautifully handcrafted crystal chandelier that offers the central lighting. It’s a place that radiates power, wealth, and, above all, comfort.
Gothic: Straight out of the classic vampire guidebook— the room is splashed with black, blood red, with the barest hints of dark gray. Various alcoves are dotted throughout, filled with various oddities, and stone gargoyles stand as sentries within the topmost ones. Dragon clawed scones offering the main lighting for the room. It’s a place that’d make Count Dracula proud.
Minimalist: Less is more, right? Well that saying is personified within this room! Clean lines, sparse furniture, only the necessities, along with a neutral color palette. This place radiates a certain light and airiness that can rarely be found anywhere else!
Normal: The typical Aurelian Dorm experience! Why customize it when you have everything you already need? A simple bay window, along with a sturdy elevated bed, with a desk situated underneath, are the main focal points of the room. Added on, you’ll find a few bookcases, a small couch, and a rather nice rug. It’s a room that’s so good you don’t need to even think about changing it!
Nature: Why go outside when you can simply stay in your room? The bed is seemingly carved at the base of a grand tree itself, along with a small meadow being created to simulate the main sitting area— with bits of bioluminescent bark, mushrooms, and fireflies (not real), being the main lighting of the room. It’s a place that any nature lover will love to spend their downtime in!
Colorful: Why have one simple color scheme when you can have them all? The rainbow has made its home within your room, and you wouldn’t have it any other way! A slew of different colors are dotted throughout— from the tie dye bedspread to the multicolored flames that dance within the hearth— to give you whatever you may need! This is a place that’ll never have you seeing in black and white!

I'm so freaking tired of seeing the same handful of tropes and storylines in isekai because it often boils down to: regular guy ends up in fantasy world and immediately gets a) op cheat skill. b)healing magic. or c) the ability to punch/use a sword really well. Regular guy runs around the fantasy world alone at first because hes been abandoned or accused of a crime he didnt commit, completely oblivious to the harem of very diverse but ultimately the same hot women he's building along the way. Regular guy is also weirdly fine with medieval fantasy slavery, discrimination and thinks he's edgy and cool just because he's being kind of an asshole.
so here are a bunch of story ideas that I came up with.
1. When a reasonable adult discovereds that rhe Chosen One (who they didn't even want to summon anyways) is a teenager, they proceed to just defeat the evil threat themselves and adopt the teenager in the process while figuring out how to send the poor kid back home
2. MC doesn't realize he's got a harem because he's very gay for a side character/villain
3. The Villain and the Hero are stuck in a timeloop that resets to the day when the Hero is summoned. This is because during the first loop there was a prophecy that was subverted by summoning the Hero to change the worlds fate. Now they are stuck in an eternal loop until the prophecy is fulfilled.
4. The summoned 'Hero' isn't granted op power upon arrival to the fantasy world. Instead they are the latest in a long line of the kingdoms failed attempts at creating a living superweapon to defeat the Villain via winter soldier style human experimentation. The villain could even be the original experiment that escaped.
5. Instead of the MC being a regular human tossed into a fantasy world with 237 different magic races, they're a non-human tossed into a fantasy world with way less variety. They might not even have other members of their race in the new world, making them unique in that way. Allows a more indepth look at fantasy discrimination and racism and could create some interesting world building implications.
6. The fantasy world and modern world are universe counterparts. Doppelganger shenanigans.
7. The Chosen One is summoned decades or even centuries before they're actually needed to save the world.
8. MCs freshly departed spirit slips through a crack between worlds into the fantasy world. Ghost shenanigans. The reason they decide to seek power and learn magic is because they want to become strong enough to be seen again by other people.
9. MC comes from another fantasy world with a magic system that no longer works at all. They have to learn the new worlds magic system in order to be able to do magic again.
10. MC is reborn into another world because their worlds deity hates them and because they don't want to deal with MC anymore, they just decide make the MC another world's problem.
11. The summoning ritual gets hijacked.
12. MC is summoned from a distant point in time rather than from another world.
13. MC is actually the deity in disguise because they couldn't find a suitable person to isekai.
14. MC is a highly successful Chosen One, to the point where they offer up their services as a Hero to desperate gods who want to save their world/chose the wrong person to be the Hero and need to fix it before its too late.
15. Instead of just joining a guild, the reincarnated MC builds one and becomes the Guildmaster.
16. The MCs modern opinions on slavery, the class system, sexism and equality in general lead to them kickstarting the fantasy french revolution.
17. MC actually liked their life in the modern world. They had a good family, healthy friend group, worked their dream job and all that other happy jazz. They really don't want to be adventuring in a fantasy world -their entire goal is getting back home.
#writing#writeblr#writer stuff#isekai#fantasy#please im begging on my hands and knees#isekai has so much potential im going insane#why is it the exact same plot with 6 tropes that get randomly rotated#if youre gonna have 6 tropes at least twist them around a bit#writing trope#tropes#even if the ideas on this list arent very good i still think theyre a bit different to the normal stuff#if anyone uses these ideas at all pls someone tag me#suggestions feedback and ideas very very welcome and requested#before anyone tells me i know there are very good isekai and i love them with my whole heart#i just want a little more variety outside of the power trips and the harems

Continuation: The reason why Monomasa wanted to talk to MC was because he was hoping that they'd be able to convince Drovain to absorb the rest of him because Drovain will die if he doesn't. MC isn't really down with this request because their job is to observe heroes' dreams and Drovain's dream is for Monomasa to be able to come out and finally live his life without being controlled by others. Asking Drovain to give up on his dream would go against their job and, quite frankly, Drovain seems to care more about Monomasa's wellbeing than his own, so he wouldn't be down with it regardless. Monomasa and Drovain are both eventually going to be screwed if this doesn't happen though, unless MC pulls some shenanigans, so MC has some stuff to think about.
Danzo was actually listening to their conversation, so in the morning when he sees MC internally stressing about the situation, he decides to distract them from it by being obnoxious, which is nice of him imho.
Galvo finally ends up remembering that he's actually heard about an observer named MC from Exio. About them being a Unique, bringing back Mt. Fuji, that their power and skill are a mess, but they're on their way to becoming something... which shouldn't be possible since that all occurred in the present world and MC should be the only MC present. Exio would also tell Galvo that he couldn't meet MC when he asked about it. Exio was telling others about how based and OP MC is, ain't that sweet? Or ominous? Why not both? It's interesting how much he divulged to Galvo since he's usually so secretive, even around Seiichiro and his gang. MC wasn't even something he would have to mention at any point since Galvo didn't know about them, it was unprompted. Maybe Exio feels comfortable mentioning the things going on in the present world to him because he figured that it was a separate world and nothing would come from it if he knew. I'm choosing to believe he just uses Galvo to vent and traumadump on because he doesn't want to pay for therapy.
So anyways, the gang comes to the conclusion that Galvo's Exio and their Exio are most likely the same guy and bro has been using his power to world hop or that Galvo's Exio and their Exio have been communicating. According to Monomasa, this seems to line up with Exio making random schedule changes as if he knew the future, which would be possible if he already experienced these events in other worlds or if he's getting a heads up from someone.
The current objective is to flip Exio's bricks and get back to their own world, and by extension Danzo can back to his master. MC starts getting the feeling that Seiichiro's order for Danzo to protect MC might be getting in Danzo's way, which seems to be true since he seems to be hindered in battle while protecting them. MC can finally understand what Monomasa meant by Drovain being incomplete and weaker while he's around.
MC ends up talking about feeling bad for getting in Danzo's way, which Danzo "nuh uhs", and this leads to a conversation about the relationship and trust between heroes and operators, trust being a two-way street for them. Galvo asks MC who is that ideal hero that they can put their trust in and the game makes you choose between Akashi, Mokdai, and Sui. As you can see, it's red, so this option is important and the game WILL REMEMBER it for later. I would've picked Sui, but went with Akashi since I know that from a narrative point, Akashi is the one who desires MC's trust and faith the most.
Galvo requests that MC put the same trust they'd put in that chosen hero in all of them for now and work together. Monomasa seems to take his words into consideration, so maybe they'll work things out between Drovain and Monomasa at some point with a collaboration of some sort. Galvo then suggests that MC just order Danzo around, so they won't feel like a hindrance to him and, you know, teamwork, which both of them go along with.
They get to the place Exio and Galvo crashed, so that MC can try to open up a path to their world, but they discover that the area is too unstable to do so. Danzo shows them that the facility stats Grigory showed them earlier are waaay over what they should be and ominously says something that can be summarized as "we're probs boned" before the screen statics out.

y'know what would be cool
a Genshin Impact/Wuthering Waves/you get the drill-esque gacha (possibly isekai) rpg, except it's underwater and all the playable characters except maybe the MC are (ZOOLOGICALLY ACCURATE, we don't need another Tweel incident,) merfolk
and they would all use unique, hand-chosen neo/xenopronouns, because you mean to tell me an underwater society cut off from humanity wouldn't develop its own concept of gender? And sure they still use pronouns and stuff but we can handwave it as translation from merfolk language to human language
and you yourself would be able to fully customize the MC, pronouns included
keeping in line with the gachas that came before, the MC's default name/title would be the Diver
perhaps they ended up discovering the merfolk's cities after finding an artifact (<likely one of the merfolk's magic weapons) in an abandoned lighthouse and getting isekai'd (think Amphibia-style) into the magic ocean
and all the weapons would be things like harpoons or magic staffs or similar things for fighting underwater
maybe the overarching story thing is about how there's some new kind of scary, powerful magic bubbling in the merfolk's pristine ocean and some people are scared of it and the merfolk born with it are often shipped off to be experimented on and the different merfolk cities have different views on how this new magic should be handled
science fantasy, of course, because magic technology is super cool and we need more of it in stories
the different kinds of merfolk would live at different depths in the sea in big floating magic bubble cities based on what kind of fish they are (like an angler fish merperson would live in a trench, a parrotfish merperson would live near a reef, etc.)
anyway are there any game devs out there that can make this happen
i really want to play this
and if nothing else I shall draw concept art
feel free to ask me questions about this little idea
(please talk to me about this little idea)

I think it's a very kind thing not to want to make your readers uncomfortable, but I personally find it slightly flawed because what makes one uncomfortable is pretty subjective.
For example, I find the Cop, the Ex, the Lawyer, and the Model to be very uncomfortable, both as routes and as characters, for various personal reasons, and the Step-Mother's Partner genuinely terrifies me as a character because of his chosen quote and the fact he can get access to MC easily through the Step-Mother to carry out his words and we can't even trust her to protect MC or take their side on the matter.
But I cannot, in good conscience, ask you to 'soften' them up, make them less 'problematic' so I can get comfortable. That's not fair to you and your hard work. So I will do the next best thing and avoid the characters and their routes/scenes as much as I can.
You can't please everyone. Everyone has their unique squicks and triggers. Ultimately, you should write what you want, within the borders of your own desires and comfort.
The best you can do is to warn the readers of themes in the story/each route, and trust them to watch out for themselves by avoiding routes/parts of the story they don't want to deal with, or if they are unavoidable, at least they will feel ready to power through them because they were warned ahead.
If they find age gap romances, with its warts and all, upsetting/discomforting, they can avoid it. No one is forcing them to pursue D, P or M. Just like no one is forcing me to take the Ex back, or get in bed with the Model behind my friend's back.
Sorry for this word vomit, I just wanted to add my five cents in since you opened the subject for discussion, I hope it's okay.
All I feel for this message is love
#thank youuuuu#pia: age discussion#finally feelin good again about my if#means the world to me#i got the best anons!

but the thing is,
i don't believe diavolo is "canonically yandere"
and here is why:
first off, those admissions stated are not unique to "yandere" characters only. multiple characters have expressed wanting to keep mc to themselves, and given the chance, they would proclaim so. it can't be a fact contributing to diavolo = yandere if other "non-yandere" characters (say, mammon or asmodeus, or perhaps simeon) would or have already proclaimed such things. Obey Me is a romance oriented game. It is quite normal to hear/read lines of the sort, no matter the character archetype. I've played otome/gacha games including Solmare's games since back when they were still Shall We Date. edit: —and therefore encountered those same lines multiple times.
second, his character song. i genuinely believe his character song isn't meant to suggest that he's yandere. i didn't feel any of the sort. if anything, diavolo's character song instead feels likd desperation. like he was doing his best to sell himself to mc.
"Have you noticed? This is my charm."
"Please don't look away
I will catch your heartbeats
Say no more and come here"
"I'm a formidable No.1
The unmatched only one
Fear nothing and move forward
Run run run
Always singing with grace
La la la la la"
"I have nothing to hide, I am always honest
As long as I can, I will do anything for you
So yeah, "as an exchange"...
...may not be an appropriate expression
But I want that love from you in return"
Even the chorus feels like he was trying to convince mc and him both.
"Fear nothing and move forward." seems to be a message to himself, a reminder that despite possible, suggested fears of not being chosen, not being the closest to the player in comparison to the brothers, especially Lucifer.
It's very hard to explain and I probably should be doing my research paper instead but technically, he is the number 1. He's the prince of Devildom. He has the authority, the riches, the power. He's royalty. But compared to Lucifer and the brothers, he has barely any way to connect to mc. Not to mention that Lucifer is the more present and active forefront.
It's also like...like he thinks he needs to exchange luxury or material things to be loved.
Honestly I don't think I have enough non-neurodivergent braincells to be able to express my views on the matter clearly and concisely, so this ends here.
edit: i am back from first major hurdle of research study. right now i am not playing obey me. the way the writers handled the story and the individual character depths of all the male leads disappointed me, so i only come back for fanfic ideas because yes, despite what has happened in the story, i still love the characters. so yeah. as of now, these opinions are of what i know from the character song, and from side/event stories as well as devilgram and chats. before stopping, i did play obey me for the main story for three years though.
point one: it was not diavolo who was specifically responsible for mc's estrangement into devildom. mc was chosen by random and complete bad luck, mentioned by lucifer in satan's arc. even then, choosing did not fall under diavolo's responsibilities, but lucifer's. pretty irresponsible way to choose an exchange student, especially a human one, but diavolo wasn't even meant to be a dateable character back in the earliest part of the main story for it to suggest that diavolo has yandere tendencies. the only thing that implies is that demons overestimated humans and their ability to adapt/acclimate or simply did not care. however, this argument is only viable if the yanking mc from home thing one is referring to is not from season 1.
point two: the definition of a yandere is exactly, word for word, this: Yandere is a portmanteau of two Japanese words. The first is yanderu, which means “to be sick,” and the second is deredere, used here for “lovestruck.” A yandere is often sweet, caring, and innocent before switching into someone who displays an extreme, often violent or psychotic, level of devotion to a love interest
here's a longer definition:
point three: there's a distinct difference between yandere and somewhat possessive or jealous.
point four: barbatos is def much more of a canon yandere than diavolo, and i am not against fanon/headcanon/au yandere! diavolo.

Hi WQA I hope everything’s been good!
I wanted to know- how do I depict a character arc of “reluctant hero/chosen one” without it being… how to explain it? Like the usual Disney type of stuff?
I want my MC to be given a power that they do not want to deal with and are now stuck with- plus leading a bunch of peeps to destroy the big bad guy- but I really have no idea (I mean I have a few story beats in mind but it’s still REALLY fuzzy yknow?) how to show them going from “ew I don’t want to deal with this” to becoming a leader and eventual ruler- how do I depict the arc?
Thank you very much friend!
Non-Cliché Reluctant Hero/Chosen One Arc
There are some specific things that make the Chosen One arc cliché, and honestly, not great a lot of the time. We'll go through some of those things and talk about what can be done instead.
1 - Fate vs Destiny - One of the biggest issues of the Chosen One trope is that all too often, the hero--whether reluctant or not--doesn't have a choice in their role as the Chosen One. They are fated to do the thing that only they can do, so every decision they make is preordained to lead to that outcome. If they're fated to save the world by sacrificing themselves, that's going to happen no matter what. This strips them of any agency they might have in the story. There is the illusion of choice, but all roads lead to their fate. And, honestly, it's not much fun to watch someone rise to greatness when it's the only possible outcome. Solution: Destiny can be changed... it can be shaped by choices. If a character is destined to save the world by sacrificing themselves, that outcome can be avoided. They can find a way to save the world without sacrificing themselves. They could even refuse the call if it somehow set off a chain of events that still led to the world being saved. A Chosen One with agency is much more satisfying to watch than one who is doomed to their fate.
2 - Give Them a Choice or Make Refusal an Option - Prophecies (which can be fate or destiny), bloodlines, or being the only one in possession of a unique gift leaves little to no room for choice. They didn't choose to get involved with a particular cause. And if they'd refused the call, they would have looked terrible. They may have agency later on in that their choices actually matter, but what difference does it make if they're making choices in service of a cause they had no choice but to accept? Solution Option #1: Put them on their path by choice. For example, in The Hunger Games, if Katniss's name had been pulled from the Reaping ball, she wouldn't have had any choice in being a tribute. But because it was her sister's name that was chosen, she made the choice to volunteer to take her place. Since she was the first person in District 12 ever to volunteer as tribute, no one would have expected her to make that sacrifice, and we as the reader wouldn't have even known it was possible. So, while from an emotional and moral perspective, there was really no other choice she could have made (she wasn't going to let that happen to her beloved sister), she still made the choice. She was still the master of her own destiny, and continued to be as the story went on. It can also be argued that volunteering as tribute wasn't even the thing that made Katniss the Chosen One, but rather her behavior and actions during the games that earned her a role as the icon of rebellion. So, "hero-by-deed" is another option to give your character some choice in their role. Solution Option #2: Give them a viable alternative, but one which has an undesirable drawback. For example, let's say your character has a unique magical gift and that's why they're chosen, but whoever delivers the call gives them the option to transfer that ability via magical spell to another person. The drawback is the gift won't be quite as potent in another person, and also they'll lose all their memories associated with ever having or using that gift. Now they have a viable choice. They might lose their unique ability and all associated memories, but they don't have to be in a situation they didn't choose.
3 - Prophecy for the Sake of Prophecy - Too often, prophecy is used as the basis of why the character is the Chosen One, however the prophecy is superficial and serves no other purpose. Solution: If you use a prophecy as the basis of why your character is the Chosen One, make sure the prophecy is fleshed out, relevant to the world and plot, and serves more purpose than being an explanation.
4 - Salvation in the Hands of a Child - Another Chosen One cliché is when the Chosen One--whether a child, young adult, or amateur--is surrounded by people who are better skilled, more knowledgeable, and better qualified to save the day, but still somehow the fate of the universe rests on the Chosen One's shoulders. Solution: Make sure there's a reason why the character, despite lacking in qualifications, is still the best option to save the day. Also, have them receiving lots of help and guidance from the more qualified people around them. Let them struggle as they acquire new skills, and have them really need that help from others. It should be a group effort to some degree. Let other characters be important.
5 - Proficiency at Lightning Speed - There are few things that make a reader's eyes roll faster in a Chosen One story than when the previously uninitiated Chosen One answers the call, then very quickly becomes proficient in whatever skills are needed in order for them to fulfill their destiny. Solution: Again, let them struggle as they acquire the necessary skills. It should take a believable amount of time for them to do the thing well, and there should bot lots of failures and setbacks. As much as I hated the Disney+ sequel to Willow, one thing they did right is have their Chosen One really struggle with learning to use and control the magic that was in them all along. It was pretty close to the end of the season before they became adept enough to really make a difference.
Bonus - Here's a lightning round of things to avoid: the over-the-top underdog Chosen One, the "All Powerful" Chosen One, the Chosen One who never has to make tough decisions, the Chosen One who is ordinary for no reason, the Chosen One who is defined by their destiny, the Chosen One who is special for the sake of being special, the Chosen One who has no autonomy and no agency, the Chosen One who only puts others first and never considers their own safety/wants/needs, the Chosen One who doesn't get to have a life beyond their Chosen One role.
Happy writing!
