Cis people in Canadian provinces that currently don't have rabid transphobes holding a majority in their legislatures: *now's* a good time to try to choke out those sorts of political views. Not, like, five or six weeks before your next election.
As connected as our far right and the US far right are, *you* don't have to take cues from "moderates" down there. You *must* be better than that.
And in provinces that are already gunning for legislative repression — shut that down. *Please*.
The goal shouldn't just be "keeping (BC/MB/ON/&c.) safe-ish for trans people, technically" — the whole world needs to be entirely free of transphobia — but that effort needs to start with not conceding to fascists *now*. Not when the writ drops for the next election.
(Also, if you've never needed to care about transphobia, now's a good time for you to look into how things have gotten so dire elsewhere in the world, and how that's currently being imported to here.)

"As election day in Manitoba draws closer, the Progressive Conservatives are now actively campaigning on their opposition to searching a Winnipeg-area landfill for the remains of two Indigenous women police presume are victims of an alleged serial killer.
In a full-page advertisement in the Winnipeg Free Press on Saturday, the PCs drew attention to four party campaign planks — and provided a place of prominence to leader Heather Stefanson's opposition to the landfill search.
"Stand firm," reads the ad, next to a photo of Stefanson bearing the caption, "For health and safety reasons, the answer on the landfill dig just has to be no.""
Ghouls. Just unbelievably callous. I hope they lose. I hope the first thing the NDP do when they win is to authorize a search.

Right now, it appears election politics have trumped energy policy and climate concerns.
In April 2022, to demonstrate her government’s commitment to addressing climate change and future energy needs, Premier Heather Stefanson commissioned a $1.2-million study from Dunsky Energy + Climate Advisors, a Montreal consultancy that has advised governments, intervenors and utilities in North America.
However, given the complexity of the issues, and the cost of the study, it seemed implausible the document released by the premier covered the entirety of the work done by Dunsky.
As it turns out, it wasn’t.
A copy of the actual Dunsky report, obtained by the Free Press, shows the PC government substantially changed or rejected most of the recommendations.
Of greater concern, Dunsky’s analysis and recommendations appear to have been ignored by Manitoba Hydro, through which all of Manitoba’s future energy and climate change policies must flow.

Canadian Municipal Elections
In many parts of Canada, there are local and municipal elections coming up!
Specifically, all of British Columbia (this Saturday, October 15th!), Manitoba (October 26th), and Ontario (October 24th). Also some parts of other provinces and territories (see here).
For information about how to vote and who's running where you live, you'll have to google "[your city or region] election" or go to your local government's website. You can also check out your local library's website (or ask a librarian in person); they will probably have helpful information!
I recommend looking up the candidates ahead of time and writing down who you plan on voting for if there are a lot of them. You are totally allowed to bring notes into the voting booth, as long as you take them out with you when you go.
Local elections have as much or more effect on your life than national elections! Since they have fewer voters, they are also sometimes used by special interest groups to gain local power. This is why you need to vote! Since they have fewer voters, your vote counts for more.
And after the election, if your new city councillor or whoever seems cool, go back to their website and get on their mailing list! Learn about local issues and events!
EVERYONE GO VOTE!

Just minutes after he was sworn in, Manitoba's new minister of Indigenous reconciliation and northern relations was directly challenged in the legislative building after he said those who ran residential schools believed "they were doing the right thing."
Speaking to reporters, Alan Lagimodiere said his understanding of the residential school system was that it was meant to give Indigenous children the skills they needed to fit into society.
"At the time I think the intent … they thought they were doing the right thing. In retrospect, it's easy to judge in the past. But at the time, they really thought that they were doing the right thing," he said.

I’m NOT affiliated with this in ANY way, I just think it’s a worthwhile initiative. Solidarity, not charity. This is a program run by people in poverty,  for people in poverty and they can use some help.  They sponsor other people for $20 - $30 a month to help with food insecurity in Canada and other emergency crisis.  If you have some money to spare, consider a donation.

Honestly Albertans, think about the influence that could be exerted if the Greens, the NDP AND the Conservatives rallied around electoral reform for a change.

So Kelvin Goertzen, the Conservative Minister of Education in the province of Manitoba, teleconferenced with Betsy DeVos, Ted Cruz, and an assortment of far-right agitators and neo-nazis from Germany, Brazil, and Russia, where he openly advocated using Covid-19 as a pretext to privatise the education system.
@allthecanadianpolitics, if you could spread this around, that would be great.
