thinking about solomon lauter sacrificing steph’s mom for political power. his most treasured thing. he tells everyone he’s devastated his wife has gone missing and it garners him a sympathy vote as well as the magically forced vote, so he gets mayor. but he gets it, and he decides it wasn’t worth it. he goes back to the black book begging nibbly (who the deal was with) to return her, and they tell him to be careful what he wishes for. he thinks about the implications, realizes he’s a demon who’ll get a laugh out of his torture and will make her a killer zombie or something. he’s more specific, asks to have his wife back as she was, and they say he could trade his sacrifice. kill stephanie and he’ll get samantha back. he finds himself considering it, then he snaps himself out of it, horrified with himself for considering killing his own daughter (who is like 3 here), and buries the black book in the middle of the forest, swearing to himself he’ll never let himself get near it again.

we all know and love the iconic 'dan reynolds' line from hatchet town, BUT i do want to acknowledge corey dorris' lines as mayor lauter.

his voice NEVER FAILS TO ASTONISH me HOLY SHIT. i've loved his voice for as long as i can remember. going from singing as frank pricely in black friday (a louder and more theatrical voice) to mayor lauter (a calmer but darker voice) is so fucking cool and i refuse to NOT talk about it.

OOH what if Steph is named after her mum?!? This would go with the theory that Steph’s mum was a Honey Queen, which is why Solomon says he's “not touching [The Black Book] again”, and why Nibbly speaks to her in The Summoning.

It would also add a whole new layer to “Stephanie, yum, yum”

Ok I can’t find the text post but someone was talking about the mystery of Steph’s mom, and that people were saying how now that her dad is passed she is an orphan.

They brought up that when Steph got home from that fateful day at school, she called out for her mom

And I just wanted to mention I watched it with captions and she yells out “I’m home” rather than “mom”, so the mystery still stands, who really knows what’s up with her

I really enjoy (?) the theory that mayor Lauter had to give up his wife 15 years ago when he came in contact with the lords in black and had to give up what he treasured most

Idk about anyone else, but I get serious "Frank During Feast or Famine" vibes from everyone accusing Mayor Lauter in Hatchet Town.

I knew I always hated Mayor Lauter but now I hate him even more because you know the scene where Steph throws her hand between the hammer and phone?

Like this bitch wants his daughter to die that's the only interpretation I got from these lines and I only realised this today. Long story short I am full of loathing for Solomon Lauter I'm glad he died in the musical
