Sony in negotiations to purchase Kadokawa

Anime and Manga fans know that Kadokawa is a hell of a lot more than just the publisher of Elden Ring. Although this WOULD give Sony 69.6% ownership of FromSoftware.

But Kadokawa is also they're a manga/anime/gaming giant that owns tons of franchises and companies. Given that Sony already owns Aniplex and CrunchyRoll, this would further solidify Sony's massive control of anime properties.

Anime Japan Day Two: Heavy Hitters Make Their Appearance

With day two of Anime Japan complete, it's pretty safe to say that we saw some impressive trailers for some of the big names of the anime world. Alongside them though, quite a few younger and less-popular studios showed up big time with incredibly surprising PVs.

An interesting mix across the board, there's plenty of anime trailers and announcements from the last 24 hours, and I talk about all the good ones in detail at Animehouse.

P.A. Works have three anime this Summer 2024 Season! How have the likes of Mayonaka Punch, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, and Narenare -Cheer for you!- fared?

BTR and Mayonaka Punch are animes that lose part of their meaning if the girls were not gay for each other. I thought Masaki kissed Live when she caught her. I also thought they were going to kiss after the credits, but even without a kiss, the show managed to convey how much Live and Masaki meant to each other. You can't watch it and not think they have feelings for each other.

I'd also throw in VTuber Legend, Girls Band Cry and Symphogear in that ring as well but 100% agreed.

Live is simping hard for Masaki with the whole specifically wanting to suck her blood to the point she becomes a desperate mess being multiple euphemisms in one. Masaki in turn finally seeing Live as an incredibly important person to her as she's basically the first who seems to actually like her regardless of what she does instead of just tolerating her until she messes up.

Meanwhile Bocchi has gay failgirl energy to the max, complete with fantasies of girls and outright blacking out with an application for her band being in the school festival because she overheard girls talking about how they'd fall for a rocker. And of course Kita crushing hard for Ryo but then falling for Bocchi the more she got to know her.

There's a lot that could be said about subtext vs text when it comes to queer characters and how subtext tends to leave a bit too much wiggle room for interpretation and how there's never really enough works with textually queer characters being represented.

But in general, I feel the type of person that tries to wiggle out of the idea that a character isn't queer despite all the subtext pointing them as such is usually the type to get angry if the character is textually queer (thinking of the people who got angry at ILTV after Rae talks about how she is in fact a Lesbian).

For my part, the idea that characters can only be in love if they make big romantic gestures like kissing just always feels backwards to me.

Maybe it's my aroness talking but it feels like that's just for reaffirmation of one's love rather than the requirement of being in love. Maybe I'm also just hyped up on how good genre dissections How Do We Relationship and Yuri is My Job are about relationships that "x romantic gesture needs to be there for them to actually be in love" feels a bit trite to me.

Character Profile

Name: Kamado Hikari (竈門 光)

Appearance:

-Hair: Dark blackish-red, flowing like a river of shadows.

-Eyes: Striking pink, glowing with an ethereal light.

-Haori: Her haori is a deep, midnight black with intricate patterns of swirling shadows. The edges of the haori are tinged with a faint, ichimatsu pattern of white a black one that was worn like the rest of her family. The design includes subtle, shadowy motifs that seem to move and shift, giving the impression of living darkness.

Personality:

Kamado Hikari is calm and composed, often seen as mysterious and enigmatic. She has a deep sense of duty and is fiercely protective of her comrades. Despite her shadowy appearance, she has a kind heart and a gentle soul, always striving to bring light to the darkest situations.

Background:

Hikari is Tanjiro's older sister, who was believed to be dead after a tragic demon attack on their family. Unbeknownst to each other, both survived and embarked on their own paths as Demon Slayers, Hikari never uses her surname due to the pain she felt hearing it and had opted to use Kageyama, meaning shadow mountain. Hikari trained in the art of Shadow Breathing, mastering its techniques with dedication and perseverance. Her unique abilities and unwavering spirit earned her the title of Shadow Hashira, making her one of the most respected members of the Demon Slayer Corps.

Relationships:

-Best Friend: Giyu Tomioka, who understands her deeply and provides silent support.

-Love Interest: Sanemi Shinazugawa, whose fiery nature contrasts with her calm demeanor, creating a dynamic and intense relationship built on mutual respect and growth.

So 1. This is a recreation of the "ride sawbuck like a temporal bull panel" from 2010 by someone who had read the comic (as good as we're gonna get besides the actial panel) and

Setsuna: Wasted Potential

In the beginning, Setsuna was mostly this black haired hanyo girl version of Sesshomaru but she barely has a character outside of wanting to slay demons and playing the violin.

Parentage

Setsuna never really cared to know about her parents as she told the tree of ages that she doesn't care anything about sesshomaru but suddenly decides to battle kirinmaru for him and she never asked about rin but as soon as she sees her as the tree of ages explains her story she suddenly wants to rescue and have a relationship with her.

2. Rushed Childhood and Recycled Material

In episode 20, setsuna's past after the fire was quickly rushed as people such as raita and futa don't have much of a personality and shiori didn't like she was in the original.

Nothing was original about setsuna's transformation as its just a copy Inuyasha's as both of them were trapped in web by a moth demon who were eventually them in a mindless state and have a weapon that seals it away.

3. No explanations

setsuna's not even interested in finding the Dream Butterfly and majority of the time wants to slay demons with kohaku and the other demon slayers, so why was she following/staying with towa and moroha during the search when she could do anything else.

I really don't understand why setsuna became a demon slayer as she could've done anything else but I think they did that to have a female demon slayer without thinking about kin'u and gyokuto.

4. Rushed Abilities

Shortly after setsuna's revived, she suddenly gets the Yukari no Tachikiri and her quickly mastering it after only using it on the sea snake woman, rion, mayonaka, zero, meidomaru, and kirinmaru for less than the second season.

She also used the Suzaku no Machibuse once for plot device against kirinmaru.

5. Copying

Despite towa inheriting majority of sesshomaru's abilities, setsuna gets copied and pasted memories of his past and progress.

Ex. sesshomaru reviving rin and thinking of the smile she gave him. setsuna saved mei and thinking of how she smiled while thanking her.

sesshomaru mastering the tenseiga in less than one season, setsuna mastering the Yukari no Tachikiri in less than a one season.

like inuyasha, setsuna needing a weapon to seal her demonic side away but not towa.

6. Contrived Powerups

Majority of the time, she wins by using the same two abilities, scourge of swallows and cyclone burst, and screaming and even after battling kyuki and kirinmaru, battles she wasn't able to win, she still does that.

How was it that setsuna inherited the Yukari no Tachikiri instantly and it was all up to her and not sesshomaru to do it.

7. Hanyo

Despite knowing she is a hanyo, setsuna in episode 20 wasn't ashamed of being one but in episodes 2 and 3 she doesn't want others to know and is resentful in being one.
