This is probably too pollyannaish of me, but maybe this is the scare we need to shake us out of the rut of apathy and resignation as a country. The cost is too high, and we shouldn't have to barrel headfirst into disaster to figure out something is bad, but maybe that's part of human nature. Much like how a dreadful health scare (If it doesn't kill you) can shake you out of being a dumbass about your health and prompt better eating and exercise. Or how some people need to touch the active stove to see for themselves that it's hot. They get burned but they learn a lesson. It's a lesson they should have been able to learn without injuring themselves (or in this case, themselves and others), but sometimes that's just not how it works out for people.

It's that whole "We'll do the right thing... after we've tried everything else first" kind of thought. Maybe the airplane taking a nosedive will be enough to get the country screaming and for them to wake the fuck up. I don't know, or maybe we're just in the opening number of Cabaret.

i have suddenly become obsessed with a theme that HoO established but never proceeded to extrapolate on, which is:

You have no idea how much of it is real or not but regardless you feel like if your relationship isn't exactly in their image that you have failed.

You are Leo Valdez, and you have just learned that you are the echo of your great-grandfather. You are not your own person. You just exist to be a mirror of him. A doppelganger. An actor and stunt double facing all the danger he never had to but wearing his face. To be there for his best friend decades later simply because he couldn't. You are playing a role. A seventh wheel and a pawn for a goddess who carefully sculpted your entire life for her own purposes.

You are Hazel Levesque, and the only reason you are alive is because your brother couldn't save your his sister. You are a consolation prize. An apology. Your existence here is misplaced in every way but you inhabit it anyways.

I can overlook the butchering of Agatha and Rio’s relationship in the finale (no I can’t but ao3 will fill in the gaps) but I cannot get over how they completely dropped the themes of sisterhood and belonging. Not just in the final episodes but it was sorely lacking in the whole show. A show about covenless witches!!! A gang of bitchy, pessimistic, traumatized women forced to work together to regain their power as witches, and the canon explicitly telling us that being apart of a coven is intrinsic to being a witch….. the story they should’ve been telling is right there 😔
