anyway, when all is said and done i still think the the veil coming down could've done more for veilguard's themes than the actual end if handled a certain way
#da4 spoilers#da4 critical#elvhenan is gone and so is the world i knew in da:o#and i think it would've been a kinder reboot than what we got with the south#i want to write a longer post about it but i think i need to replay and take notes.#same with my solas... review? reflection?#the short of it is that at the beginning solas says the veil is a wound and nothing ever disproves that fact#and yet at the end its existence being good remains unquestioned as if the series is both#desperately hanging onto the status quo and grinding it into the dust w/ the south falling into chaos#yeah its existence is justified bc solas is soothing the blight or something (dependent) but?? idk.#i think it would be a more interesting choice for the series moving forward. tho with solas being the literal veilguard#maybe its nature will change

#no reposting#ok ramble time because i have some Thoughts#subject to change..#okay so like#Barney is a few things. imo. one he's s good leader and protector. two hes a creature of habit.#Barney has always kind of stuck in one area of work.. from security guard to civil protection officer to white forest sentry#hell even as a field commander during the uprising half of his combat is essentially point defense and backing Gordon up#which like yeah thats just gameplay stuff but this is an intentional reading of his character so just. shh#anyways#Barney never really stops being some kind of guard. the context in which he operates changes of course but its still the same general role#maybe its a subconscious attempt at maintaining normalcy. maybe its just all he feels hes good at. regardless its what he does.#and its what he continues to do.#that's what feels right to him thats whats natural to him so he might as well do it.#i think part of Barney's brain hasn't really caught up to the idea that things really are improving.#like he Knows it and he's happy about it but it doesn't feel natural after spending half of his life under the combine.#his body still thinks hes in danger#okay im eepy#half life fanart#barney calhoun#half life 2#half life furry au#half life

got a new 17776-esque football game idea. average football game, but it's all played in a cornfield, but a maze could be involved if you want to get crazy with it. to make it even worse a part of the rules is that you CANNOT destroy or uproot any of the corn under any circumstances or else you'll immediately be out of the game, but you are allowed to eat any fully grown corn at any given time. the entire game field is the cornfield, and if you leave it you'll immediately be considered out-of-bounds. you're allowed to hide the ball in the corn stalks if you think that'll work. scarecrows are also there, not for anything helpful but just to throw players off cause i think that'd be pretty funny, watching someone fumble over a guy made of straw. possibly one of the most rage-inducing game ideas, or the funniest. just imagine the probes watching a bunch of players bumble around a field with extremely thick plants trying to get their way through the field through the maze or by brute force.

I actually find it really bizarre and counter intuitive that clinically speaking, you cannot legally be diagnosed with a personality disorder until you're at least 18. The reason given for this is because "the personality has not fully developed before this age" like ???
Ah yes, my favorite strategy. Not diagnosing the problem until it's already been virtually cemented into your brain for life! Wouldn't it be easier (and more painless) to address the problem before it's fully developed?
#im also certain that the age that personality fully forms at is not a universally agreed upon number#like idk. maybe this raises less questions about age and more about the potential consequences of pathologizing personalities#it feels a little fucked up to me that some mental illness are 'just' mental illnesses while others are deemed a thing synonymous with you#and i can understand if some people with personality disorders do really heavily identify with their disorders#thats fine!#i also think the average person has a concept of personality which is relatively stagnant and thats just not realistic tbh#i mean if you think personality is stagnant then yours probably is so in rhat sense youre not wrong#but personality can absolutely change and i dont think it makes you a 'different person'#i think its a natural progression#anyways. got a little derailed but the point im trying to make is#lets find a way to give people with personality disorders a more realistic hope for recovery without invalidating them#and also lets maybe try to treat personality disorders preemptively so they don't get worse

#terrorball#hey if any of my followers liked blaseball.......... join the stream next friday and say cowboy sent you (for legal purposes this is a joke#i unfortunately cannot join.......... i'm busy for almost exactly the amount of time the stream is on. maybe i'll be able to catch the end#depends how long it goes#anyway i love terrorball!! hell yeah!! my favorite thing to do in a fandom is run away with a character with little established#and guess what about most tball characters!!!#anyway. hc dump#so all the tabs are in the same body as the originals with access to all of their memories!#when the souls overflowed new life was stuffed in leading to the tabs#the baseball stitches are where the soul exited basically#tab has stitches around its neck because the stitches cover its back and they loop around because. that's how a baseball works#lore goes out the back because its backstory. yeah lmao#grit is the face (more specifically more the mouth) because gritting teeth facial expressions etc#and clutch is hands. you can't see the stitches because irons wears gloves#all of them are stuck in stasis-- cannot grow naturally#i mean they're all adults so really it's just that their hair doesn't grow#and they won't shrink as they get older but that's quite a bit in the future#tab did not change anything about its appearance and just wears its jersey all the time because it doesn't see the point#the only visual difference between it and alan is the neck stitches and the hair (it's straight instead of fluffy because. damp)#also the perpetually miserable look on its face (alan was always default somewhat content with life)#(though he drifted a bit-- never really connected with anyone)#sixes chopped off their long hair because averie always wore her hair in an iconic long ponytail#also averie didn't like the idea of getting her ears pierced so. obviously flashy earrings#and averie didn't like things around her neck so. choker!#the shattered horns were just a result of the soul overflow#sixes is named after their number-- 66#it was suggested as a joke but they accepted it#and then irons! gunner had a buzzcut so he's just kind of stuck with it#while gunner wore piercings and funny baseball hats. irons wears cowboy attire! he's an honorary texan#he's trying to define himself so this is just something he's trying out

Cannot imagine whatever is going on through Mr Leonard Echowatcher's head. You spend your life yearning for a world where you lived differently, where the day wasnt soaked in war, blood, and battle. Where you could envision a future where you have a partner and a family with friends to live gracefully with. But then you are given such opportunities only to find you were never taught to be gentle, you have a gentle, empathetic nature and yet the physicality of it is a stranger to you. You are expected to raise a child with gentle hands so that she saves the world, What does that even mean? How can you accept your growing love for your friend when you were never taught how to love, that intimate love is a luxury best left forgotten, there are no need for such things in war. He has to learn to become the things he wanted bc he grew too old to develop it naturally. He becomes a father to taimi fumbling his way into learning how to care and parent, he is defensive of Aurene bc he is from a culture where they arent expected to raise their own young and yet has to do so with a dragon. It feels like a test, He has to prove both to others and to himself he is capable of being a father, of nuturing, that calloused, stained hands can still be gentle. He has to accept that love is a terrifying leap of faith in vulnerability in order to gain a partnership that is considered a rarity. I love the idea that he spent 30 years yearning for things he thought he would never have and when he is actually given those opportunities (albeit admittedly through unusual circumstances) he has to learn how to actually live in them, becuase they were always just Concepts until now. Ohhhh my god Mr. Leo you are my everything
#rambling about my guy at 3am#its so so sos so important to leo's lore that he wishes he had freedom from the legions while still being inherently loyal to them bc he#cannot break the loyalty that is so fervent in his culture's belief so he doesnt leave and instead tries to be the change he wants to see#in savoring life and preventing reckless deaths and maybe one day allowing for more connections between the charr re their relationships#while also battling with the fact now that he has these chances hes not actually prepared for him#hes defensive about Aurene and he takes a while to admit his feelings for rytlock because of these#does this makes sense me shaking the camera do you see my vision he makes me insane#hes so tired hes sooooo tired but theres this constant weight on him at all times its just not a world ending one but a personal one#javi gw2#leonard echowatcher#this isnt even ABOUT being diallusioned with how the legions disregard lige and treat their soldiers as a numbers game bc thats an entire#different problem this is just abt his more personal struggles.#god i remember describing all his interactions with rytlock (intimacy wise) were all very passionate bc he didnt know how to allow himself#to be vulnerable and gentle#or rather hes scared to be bc its not natural to him#so when they see each other again and leo IS more gentle with him in private that is a huuuge deal#also im definitely not conflating romantic and platonic relationships bc those can be just as important#so im directly speaking about more intimate relationships or regarding whatever leo viewed himself wanting#which was like a partner and a family#sound the alarm this hardened soldier secretly dreams of a domestic fantasy he will never have#is esentially what it is#leo was made to be bbq dad who cleans gravestones and plants flowers for the feceased and is forced into [the entire plot of gw2]#sorry im rambling okay bye

Trying to remember where I first encountered humanity as a horror to see if this has a root the same way you can trace literally all of my thirst for fictional characters back to WITCH, but ngl I genuinely cannot remember anything like that.
#like you know. usually if something becomes human the narrative depicts it positively#like this is a good thing this is teh goal yay yippee#and that's great of course#love that#but everybody knows that i keep a collection of characters whose main conflict is humanity (horror) vs their nature#the example everyone likely knows is The Last Unicorn. and I saw the film adaptation when i was like 5 so maybe that's the root#but the thing is i... didn't realise the true horror of it until i read the book#so that shouldn't be it. but yes TLU is a classic example of humanity being the body horror AND the psychological horror#the unicorn was not meant to be a human. its nature isn't to be a human. it doesn't know human emotions. but it does now.#fully against its will and against the laws of nature it was changed into a she and now she is just like us and every day she looks#at her hands with horror and the hideous caricature in the mirror does not become less nausea inducing no matter how much#time passes. the repulsion gives only when the mind does. who are you really? what are you really?#and then she turns back but it ahs changed her. she will live knowing love and empathy and the fear of death.#she'll never belong anywhere and she'll have no kin. she's no longer human and no longer a unicorn.#sorry that got long because it's fucked up and depressing. but yeah that's like the prototype. the other wonderful classic#has got to be Viser I in Ani//morphs but honestly all Ye//erks are inherently this trope?#but a bit differently because they actually AREN'T that different from humans but their society shaped them into being#very different and the real horror is in realising that you have been very human all along. against your will.#the horror is just the same as if someone forced you to become a human because; well; what is the difference really?#perhaps it's even worse. i mean; the knowledge that you have always been like this; that has to be horrible; right?#and the other members of this beautiful collection aren't exactly classics but I love collecting them anyway. favourite niche fucked up#thing for real. for the uninitiated currently the other ones are Var//ney from Castle//vania (a mix of both of the above technically.#since he's something that is fully separate from humans YET his nature is actually human to the point that a character comments#on it and the kicker is he's fucking right! he's more human than many a vampire used to be. the humanity is inherent but he's very human#against his will and he'd deny being like humans at all. separating himself from humanity but hey! someone forgot that mirrors#are a thing! and they might not reflect vampires but they reflect what's within and boy your words are bullets shot in the dark corridors#of a funhouse and when they hit those funky panes of glass the one bleeding is you. you better check your mouth is dry#before you open it with a grin and stare in shock as blood pours out next time#another example is Gray from Dreamcatcher. yes i continue to ignore those few sentences at the end that completely ruin all the themes#and the last example is The Wi//nged Li//on. for obvious reasons. I'd say that's a mix of Gray and TLU

getting into ben 10 is so sad bc I binge the entire OS and am like wow cant wait for more and then every other series doesnt have the things I liked about OS and even casual fans online say that 10yo Ben's character in OS is more compelling than all the others but theres barely any of him after OS
#how did that episode in ultimate alien when it brought back 10yo ben make him 10 times more compelling#but only his 10yo self and not his current self in the show#but fr it was so sad learning that they immediately jumped straight to a 5 year timeskip after OS#plus artstule change plus recast plus major personality shift plus redesign#like looking at alien force ben next to OS ben idk who the hell that is bc thats not ben#its fine like im chill with just being neutral/uninterested in the later series and just sticking with OS#thats the power of fandom#i dislike his omniverse characterization but that doesnt mean i dont love rook#and i wont stick him into OS as a self indulgent au#theres also multiple things i like about the later series for sure tho like#1 rook like i just said but also#ben and gwens relationship. i love that they didnt play around with them in AF#and doom dimension likeee#i dont like how theyre written in AF and UA but that stuff is bomb#i think it all boils down to me wishing the show didnt feel split up in eras with different versions of the characters#and it was more linear#like instead of instant 5 year timeskip it was like. now ben and gwen are 11 or 12. maybe even 13#it shows more development that isnt just a huge jump from 0 to 100#ben getting more mature is the natural progression of his character but also#its the fact that they gave him major development in OS then changed everybody so jarringly they didnt even feel like the same characters#like theres a reason OS ben is the most compelling#it should have been more linear close together and less broken up in my opinion#pandas.txt#they just made ben look so normal and boring in most of the clips ive seen in the later series#plus not even feeling like the same guy#maybe ill try and watch the reboot#it rlly is chill tho bc im fine with just liking OS its a great show#anything i wanted to see i can just think of in my head myself and now i have a bunch of stuff to play around with#once i get more into it#bc this show is so fun and great and i love it i rlly do wanna stick with it
