Thinking about this post again with the Separatist clone infiltration

Because. They can’t rely too heavily on the Kaminoans’ work or technology because even though technically they have access since Palpatine is pulling both sides’ strings, nobody but Dooku and maybe one or two other people knows that and that’s how Palpatine likes it. So it’s a defecting scientist here and some leaked data there to make the DNA really useful, but at least the template is set up – all the first clones they make are viable. Of course, at this point, even aging twice as fast is too slow; they’ve entered an arms race that was won ten years ago. Dooku keeps those first few clones, still young children by the end of the war, just in case, but the next batches have to be sped up. They can’t age rapidly their whole lives, or someone would notice these shinies turning to old men in a matter of months, but the Separatist scientists can probably figure out a way to age them and train them quickly in order to be sent out. It’s star wars, science is what you make of it.

And then like. Maybe, maybe you could put these clones in with the others, disguised as an attack on Kamino that fucks with data and then suddenly there’s an extra squad or two that must have gotten lost in the shuffle – but more likely these clones have to literally take people’s places. Sole survivors of squads, clones gone MIA for months, so on and so forth, all coming back just a little strange, a little different than people remember – but that’s going to be the effects of what happened. They’re still obviously, visibly clones, after all.

Some of these clones are lucky enough to replace shinies without names or friends, letting them establish their own personalities as the ones of the person they’re replacing. Some of them not so much, and instead of picking their own name it’s assigned to them by the people who ask these clones to turn on an army of people who look like them and understand them on a level nobody in the Separatists does. But the Separatists have one thing over the Republic – they don’t have a million clones. Every one they send out is trained carefully and specifically for their task, and they know they’re special and can’t afford to be lost. The cruel irony of it all would be that the Separatists value their handful of clones in some ways more than the Republic, even though they deny theirs even the recognition of their own names/identities that the Republic clones get from the Jedi.

post-beginning of accomplice ending [anime/ova timeline, so after the burning but long before souji leaves inaba] where souji & the IT are met up at junes still trying to figure out the "real culprit" but souji's phone rings & he looks down & sees its adachi & his brows raise then knit & he looks conflicted for a moment & he quietly excuses himself & the others just assume its dojima calling about nanakos condition or asking him to run an errand so they dont rly give it a second thought, sure ok souji.

but after Quite a long while, souji's still not back & whereas the others are engrossed in talking abt namatame with naoto, it rly nags at yosuke bc he has a bad feeling... what if souji's still not back bc he received some rly bad news? did he have to leave & forgot to tell them? so he tells the others hes gonna go look for souji & see if hes alright or whatever

so he gets up & looks around junes in some of the quieter corners nearby until he spots the bathroom & hes like huh. i wonder if he took his call in the bathroom? or maybe he had to go afterward. so he decides to peek his head in (it's stalls, so theres a sink/open area) & hes abt to say soujis name to see if hes in 1 of the stalls (would be creepy to look down & lean a little to see the shoes in the stalls, after all. & what if he gets the wrong person who just has similar shoes?), but then he hears a choked sound that sounds ODDLY familiar... but, what—

& then he hears it again, this time a bit different. it's more a whimper or smth of that nature... alongside some quiet sound of skin. & he'd recognize his partner's voice Anywhere. was he... in here...??! & he gets flusters for a second bc the reality of walking in on his partner doing smth like that is- i-is... & what sort of phone call couldve led to this? was the phone call a Ruse to get him to leave & have some private time to do... this? his head was too scrambled... & yu sounds far better than he had any right to. he could hardly think abt the implications of the warm feeling in his stomach at the sound of his partner's noises.

but thats when he hears it. souji letting out a strangled hiss of "adachi-san, i—" & his blood goes absolutely cold.

Umm, let's see.

I have a habit of buying blorbo headcanon adjacent things. On my desk right now is a candle called "BIG SKY" with a horse on the label that smells like sandalwood and jasmine with notes of lavender, musk, vanilla, and amber because I saw the label, then smelled it, and declared "THIS IS WHAT CAPTAIN PIKE SMELLS LIKE!" Many such things are like this, I do very fun things with my grown-up money. :)

I went back to college as an adult after flunking out haaaard in my late teens and decided to do community college. One of my friends who knows I'm into nerdy stuff/comics recommended I take the class of a locally known comic book author. I signed up for his Brit Lit course and spent the entire semester taking psychic damage every Tuesday and Thursday because this comic book author should not have been allowed to teach anything but especially not literature. Our final assignment was to read The Killing Joke and put together our dream fancast for a movie version and I wish to fuck I was joking about that. Other memorable moments included a lecture about how Victorians definitely thought table legs were sexy and another lecture about how Mary Shelley probably didn't write Frankenstein (because "why would a little girl write something good when Lord Byron and Percy Shelley are right there to have ghost written it for her?"). At the end of the semester I left a very scathing "anonymous" review of his course calling out the Mary Shelley thing specifically and what misogynistic bullshit it was to only cover ONE woman author in the entire course and THEN teach her work as not being her own. I guess I kinda forgot that I live in a smallish area? And run in comic circles? And would probably see this man again at some point? Because sure as shit I run into him like the next year at a local comic show and he kinda nervously but kinda excitedly tells me that he's expanded his Brit Lit course to include Jane Austen, too, and only THEN did I have the epiphany about "anonymous" feedback. Cautionary tale and like wow Jane Austen okay but it was actually VERY COOL to see him trying. (Also for posterity: his comic books are pretty much putting women in sexy situations drawn sexually and I should have 100% checked his body of work before signing up for his class.)

I got spoiled for Agent Coulson's death in The Avengers (2012) and tweeted (vaguely) to Clark Gregg who was at the time campaigning against spoilers (for obvious reasons) about it and he replied that he was sending The Hulk. I think I've been chasing that high ever since.

02/23/2025 "Fiction and Feast" Progress Update:

Edited another 2300 words of the first chapter. Google Docs says I have exactly 2000 words to go lol, which of course will expand by the time I'm done chewing on it. (Void journal bullshit below, you know the drill.)

Did another midterm today. Wanted to die, but that is a frequent feeling when I'm taking exams. I've always considered myself an alright test-taker, but my confidence has slipped as I'm nearing the end of my degree.

Ahhh I haven't told anyone this yet, so you get to be my trial run, but I'm failing one of my classes. I've never in my life gotten below a B, much less FAILED, and I want to bang my head against the wall anytime I think about it. I pay for most of my own schooling (with scholarships covering the rest) and thinking about failing a class I spent thousands of dollars for is, uh, not doing great things for my mental health. I truly think I'll have to retake it in the summer, which is the semester I graduate so it wouldn't delay my degree, but the idea I may have to go through this horrendous class AGAIN is killing me. And my failure not only affects me but also those who are financially dependent on me, too. So this comes at a really hurtful blow.

It's weighing heavily on my mind. People tend to say not to beat yourself up for things like this, but it's hard when the aftershock of your failure isn't felt by just you. Other people suffer when I fail. It's difficult to be kind to myself. But I'm trying.

In more POSITIVE journaling (Jesus, my pessimism is my downfall) I mentioned in recent tags I'll be moving soon. Though these next few weeks will be goddamn stressful, I'm so so excited!! I'll actually have room to get away when I need to, which is something I have wanted forever. I love my family, but I'm sensitive to noise/body heat and get overstimulated easily when I'm around other people, so I often need to shut myself in somewhere to cure it. We've been in such a tiny space these past six months that I've admittedly been going a little crazy. I'll have my own spot in the new place to withdraw when I need to and it can't come soon enough.

I hope you have a lovely night. The Sunday Blues are juuust hitting me, but I'm going to bed so they won't have me in their clutches much longer. I laugh in Sunday Blues' face, HA! Truly, I think about Zack getting older and seeing parts of Angeal in himself. Almost jumpscaring himself walking by the mirror some days; looking at old photos and thinking. There's mourning and grief in it all, knowing that he's gone, but it's like Zack is taking him with. Living for the sake of them both, because what else are you supposed to do.
