From the documentary As Armas e o Povo (Weapons and the People), 1975
A massive crowd attends the commemorations of May 1st in 1974, the first ever to be celebrated in Portugal, 5 days after the fall of the fascist dictatorship. During the dictatorship, people were not allowed to manifest or speak freely, and thousands of socialists, communists, and people affiliated with worker rights and student organizations were persecuted, imprisoned, tortured and killed.
The Movement of the Armed Forces, composed by a group of leftist, low ranking army officials, started the revolution with a coup d'etat that overthrew the fascist government.

Horror icon Ingrid Pitt guest stars as enemy agent Elayna in The Adventurer: Double Exposure (1.20, ITC, 1973)
#fave spotting#ingrid pitt#the adventurer#itc#1973#classic tv#double exposure#episode 20 in transmission order but among the first produced I assume; I'm following Network's dvd order in watching (almost certainly the#prod. order) but I'll refer to these eps by transmission order because im an awful dullard. yes‚ The Adventurer. truth be told‚ i saw a#single episode of this series quite a few years ago on Network's 50 yrs of ITC set and it didn't really inspire me to ever seek the rest#of the series out... but with Network's passing (rip forever in our hearts) I've found myself picking up some titles I'd held off on bc of#the very real possibility that a series like this may never see another commercial release. the guest star spots were enough for me to#swing for this once i found it cheap enough (and i had to hunt bc I wasn't paying a lot for something i was fairly certain would be bad)#and... it isn't great. it isn't as bad as i expected either. it's ok. Gene Barry's lead character (the imaginatively named Gene Bradley) is#a truly absurd character: he's a world famous film star who also happens to be the greatest secret agent‚ and of course a successful#business man (also ace pilot‚ award winning racing driver‚ peerless sportsman etc etc etc). that he's played by a visibly tired looking 50#something Gene B is another thing entirely (as is Gene's... variable performance; reputedly a nightmare on set‚ who was hated by co stars#writers and directors alike‚ he also insisted on idiot boards to read his lines from). ITC‚ having spent record amounts of money making The#Persuaders at the start of the decade‚ were attempting something of an economy drive at this point; thus the switch back to 25 minute eps#after 50 had become their standard‚ as well as now shooting on cheaper (and inferior) 16mm film instead of 35mm; by the by that's why these#images are relatively awful. shot on cheap stock‚ and never undergoing the same revival of interest as other contemporary itc shows‚ The#Adventurer presumably languished in film cans somewhere and network appear to have done little to nothing in terms of restoration on the#series‚ with it looking far worse than any of their other itc releases. but then i suppose it was always going to be a niche release..

my autistic ass avoided watching the x-files because i knew it would consume me....
& now here i am fully consumed even though I've only watched the first few handful of episodes of s1 (i'm regaining spoons needed for media consumption), but let me tell you w h a t!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was so excited i started crying because it combines unbridled pining, a skeptic & her believer husband partner, true crime, weird mythology, aliens (which i already knew abt obvi), unlikely besties who are prepared to square up at all times (re; scully being cold towards the agents mocking mulder & mulder being ready to fight g o d whenever anything happens to scully).
i just love the show a lot & i expected this but goddamn!!!!!! it's wormed into my spin category & now my alien spin is returning along with my 'unexplained happenings spin!!!!! i'm being consumed i tell you!!!!
#i'm excited to watch the movies as well!!!#i'm a little nervous for s10 & s11 due to the time jump etc etc#so i may not watch those--but i intend on watching 1-9 & the films#tho i'll probably watch s1 - 5 & the watch the first movie. watch s6-9 & watch the last movie#i knew i would be consumed by the autistic coded FBI agents & their ufo sightings but DAMN YALL-----i started going bonkers#on dya fuckin' one & now they're all i can think about#maybe this is to fix the void i have due to w*tcher being a mess (I'm season 3 is good--i ma just petrified dfghkjldfh)#if this end sup in tags no it doesn't <3 but also if it does---don't follow me due to this post#i post a mishmash of stuff!#kylo rambles#kylo's audhd/disability posting#<- putting this there bc it just feels right to do so <3#the reminders im getting of like--the fucked up alien shit i know & ALSO 2 OF MY FAVORITE ALIEN CENTRIC MOVIES-#(those being close encounters of the third kind & starman)#i've gotta rewatch those now & c r y because those movies remind me of watching them in my grandmother's livingroom while my mom played-#-games on her pc. they also remind me of the summer nights i'd watch them back to back for days on end#god--for a 25 year old i talk like someone who gre wup in the 80s when i--alas did not---i grew up in the 200s but my parents#showed me a lot of 80s & 90s media so i feel more at home with those films & early 2000s films then i do most things from the 2010s#i'm talking a lot in tags--if you read all this--i'm so sorry. i don't know the art of shutting the fuck up#anyways; once again--if i end up in tags no i don't & don't follow me solely due to this post because i post a lot of stuff that's unrelate#to this (also please be above 18 if you're gonna follow me <3)

The Price May Be Right - Number 25
Welcome to “The Price May Be Right!” I’m counting down My Top 31 Favorite Vincent Price Performances & Appearances! The countdown will cover movies, TV productions, and many more forms of media. Today’s pick is a classic mystery tale, with Price playing a significant role in the proceedings. Number 25 is…Shelby Carpenter, from Laura.
Tumblr media
Our previous spot on the countdown was the murder mystery “House of the Long Shadows.” Strangely enough, today’s entry is ALSO a role Vincent played in a murder mystery feature. “Laura” – the 1944 film noir “Whodunnit?” - is widely considered a classic of the genre. It’s easily one of my favorites among such pictures, and that’s saying a lot. The plot begins with the apparent murder of the titular character, Laura Hunt: a glamorous heiress and the ambitious head of an advertising agency. After Laura is discovered shot to death in her apartment, New York City detective Mark McPherson (played by Dana Andrews) goes on a quest to solve her case…a case that he quickly grows obsessed with, to the point where some start to believe the sleuth is actually falling in love with a woman that is already dead. Things only get more complicated when it’s revealed – SPOILER ALERT – Laura is actually still alive! Evidently, the person found dead was an employee of hers. Now, McPherson’s case takes an all new twist, as it seems the person who killed Laura’s employee may still want the real Laura dead. Price’s role in the film is that of Laura’s fiancé, Shelby Carpenter. While he’s charming, good-humored, and often seems rather lost with all the mayhem around him, he’s also something of a human parasite: it becomes obvious very quickly that Carpenter is really only interested in Laura because of her money. He, himself, is in a heap of debt; despite supposedly coming from a wealthy family, he has squandered most of his own fortune on frivolity, and now is desperately seeking a way to regain his funds and climb his way back up the social ladder. Carpenter is something of a red herring in the picture, as his need for money and penchant for womanizing could easily lead to a couple motivations for murdering Laura, especially when it is ultimately discovered she really doesn’t love him. Vincent often said this was one of his favorite movies, and it’s not hard to see why. While his role is ultimately that of a mere supporting player, this is one of a few parts from the earlier days of his career that can be seen as a stepping stone for his path in life to come. Carpenter is a romantic and princely figure, in some ways, but he’s also shady and unscrupulous. He flip-flops between being a loveable sort of scoundrel and an unsettling figure of suspicion throughout the picture. Price, at this time, was still mostly known for his work in romantic comedies and period costume dramas; playing the Red Herring figure in a good ol’ fashioned murder mystery can easily be seen as a sort of crossroads for the kinds of movies he’d do later on. Really, it’s the classic status of “Laura,” as a movie, that gives Price’s appearance here such power. For him, it was one of the most important films in his career, helping to get him more attention from audiences and critics alike than perhaps any movie he’d done up to that point, and the picture – as a whole – has proved influential on many other stories in the same genre since. It’s fair to say that Price’s performance as the loafing Shelby Carpenter helps the picture in some fashion. Ultimately, I just felt other roles were more prominent, in some fashion, and therefore felt I couldn’t place this part any higher on the countdown. Tomorrow, the countdown continues with my pick for Number 24!

“The Israeli military has a history of attacks on media structures,” Carlos Martinez de la Serna explained. In May 2021, a tower housing the Qatari media organization Al Jazeera and the American news agency The Associated Press (AP) was destroyed by three missiles, on the basis, the Israeli military claimed, of an imminent threat posed by Hamas’s presence in the building. When questioned publicly, Israel provided no evidence to support this claim. Since October 7, 2023, the phenomenon has taken on unprecedented proportions. In response to the Hamas terrorist attack on Israeli soil, the Israeli military has relentlessly bombarded the Gaza Strip, a 365-square-kilometer territory barely larger than Malta. News coverage in the Gaza Strip has become extremely limited. “When you look at the conflicts around the world … you would usually have the international media on the ground,” said Irene Khan, UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression. “None of them have been allowed access. Or they’re embedded within the IDF.” Only Gazan journalists can report on what is happening in the Gaza Strip. They struggle daily to survive and find places to take refuge. In many cases, their places of work no longer exist. According to the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate (PJS), around 70 press organizations, including local radio stations, news agencies, transmission towers, and journalist training institutes, have been partially or completely destroyed since the start of the war. Forbidden Stories has carried out this investigation in collaboration with AFP, Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism, Le Monde, Paper Trail Media and other international media outlets as part of the Gaza Project. Supported by the analyses of experts in ballistics and audio, it illustrates one of the many strategies used by the Israeli military to stifle information in Gaza: the destruction of press infrastructure.
