Digital painting practice project from yesterday:
Value distillation study of Max Grecke's Batman drawing (on the right). Following this Drawfee Drawclass episode.
Goal was to simplify values and work with shapes rather than lines. Started with blocking in shapes in just two tones, then added a midtone inside the lighter sections. End result is definitely a bit off from the original (especially the angles of the head and foot), but I do think it is legible as Batman at least and the overall effect worked pretty well!

What summery lighting for such a wintery fellow!
Before I started working on the Purely Personal painting, I needed to work out the style rendering. It's partly inspired by Max Grecke, whose smooth shading and sharp shapes while still being atmospheric I admire.
To see more of the process and a timelapse, check out my blog.

A recent piece I made for the batrat art challenge on Max Grecke’s discord server. We had to draw the server mascot, so I went for batrat-chan fan art. Had a lot of fun with this one ✨✨✨
