Phoenix! On-and-off member of the EEG field team. A self-employed mechanic and electrician otherwise (and local dilf)

-> Until recently Phoenix wasn’t a super official nor consistent member of the team. He maintains that he’s not one of The Scientists, he’s a maintenance guy and an outdoorsman and he’s good for lugging supplies around the strange alien wilderness. In recent years though he’s around a lot more often and participates in most expeditions. Can’t hurt to have more eyes looking out for them.

-> As a teen, Phoenix pursued sciences in school, taking some of the same classes as friends like Tune and Odyssey, but Phoenix ended up dropping out when he couldn’t keep up with the work. It stung at the time and they have a tendency to discredit their own intelligence as a result, but despite this they’re content with the path their life’s taken.

-> Generally a casual and laidback kinda guy. One of the only folks on the team who has a healthy relationship with their emotions. Dude knows how to cope. that one post like ‘dude i’m emotionally vulnerable as shit i’ll cry on any of you’ that’s Phoenix-core.

-> He enjoys the fruits of hard work as much as anybody else but he’s a big advocate for the importance of rest and leisure. Can’t be giving it 100% all of the time or you won’t have anything left to give. You gotta find time to take it easy and enjoy where you’re at.

-> Phoenix looooves camping and outdoor recreation. They try to rope their friends and family into joining him out in the wilderness a couple times a year. The normal wilderness, working in the Otherworld doesn’t count.

-> While he’s not one to butt in on other people’s problems uninvited, he’s always got advice on hand if asked. Sure, some of it’s bullshit. It can’t all be gold.

-> Phoenix has been broken up with an unfortunate number of times. Amicable breakups, no hard feelings, but man this guy is unlucky with his romantic endeavours. Two of his coworkers are past exes (but remain good friends with him thankfully).

-> Phoenix an uncle to Maven and Perseverance, through being friends with their parents rather than blood relation. Perse in particular he was able to spend a lot of time with through her childhood and the two are very close. She takes after him in regards to extroverted personalities and enjoying physical activities like hiking and sports. They’ve got a good understanding of each other and a very playful relationship. There’s more distance between Maven and Phoenix, but they still have a good relationship. Phoenix is less sure of how to interact with them, how to tell when Maven just needs a little prompting to get outside their comfort zone and build confidence vs when Maven really does not want to be involved and just wants time alone. Phoenix is just trying to do right by the both of them.

If you had written it, what would've been your favorite moments from the stonemason arc?

Oh man there's like... so many little moments, but here are some of the bigger ones I had in mind (in mostly chronological order, across the entire arc and even beyond it with stuff tied into it):

EPretty much any confrontation between Dipper and Yellow, especially earlier on when he still has some fight in him

Dipper's initial reaction to losing his arm ahahahah oh no plus adjusting to it being gone (he'd lose it pretty early on into the process)

The slow development of the bond between Dipper and Amber, Amber realizing this human isn't like the zoomans she's dealt with before and coming to genuinely care about him and feeling grief when she realizes she can't bc she's too afraid of being found out and shattered

Bouncing off of that, the two of them bonding as Dipper tells Amber about all his friends and family back on earth, bittersweet af bc he misses them so much

The HBO playing off each other in general, especially Hessonite and Amber, there's a lot of... tension there.

The slow burn effect of Dipper's deteriorating mental state and the impact the conditioning/brainwashing is having on him as he realizes he's losing himself to Yellow's control

Bill was gonna show up and "inspire" Yellow's methods with some fucked up ideas of his own because of course he would, he'd be delighted to see something like this happen to "Pine Tree"

White was also gonna be involved, totally aware of Yellow's little "pet project" and joyfully supporting it, giving her the idea to use the song to control her new assassin effectively

Tied back up into Bill's involvement, he was def gonna give Dipper some nightmares about being back home but being unable to reach Mabel, Steven, and so on bc of what's happening to him ahahah fuck

THE moment when Dipper finally becomes Stonemason christ it would have been just So Much

Stan and Ford's reactions to Steven and Mabel coming back to Earth without Dipper. Wooo boy

Lapis' initial reaction to them coming back without Dipper. WOOO BOY

Fuck, Pacifica's reaction too jfc pain all around

The Gems and the Stan twins basically being at each others throats the entire time Dipper is gone bc christ there would be so much blame being thrown around

Steven just being... insanely guilty during the entire arc, especially once Stonemason is unmasked (more on that later)

Kevin Party would have had a scene where Mabel reunites with Gabe Bensen (puppet guy from Sock Opera) and basically explodes at him when he tries to flirt with her, bc whoops she still feels guilty about Sock Opera even a year later esp now that Dipper is gone/potentially dead

Oh yeah the fact that nobody even knows if Dipper is dead or alive during the entire time he's gone oop

Jungle Moon was gonna see Mabel seperated from Stevonnie, basically lost on her own until she's briefly captured by none other than Stonemason, recently deployed from Homeworld to track down "Rose Quartz" and shatter her; that entire subplot would have been somethin else bc Mabel has no idea who her captor is and the irony that its her brother and neither of them know it? woo baby

The scene where Stonemason is finally unmasked, the reactions to it... lord (it would have been a cliffhanger ending aahah), also bonus points bc Mabonnven was gonna be the one to unmask him so its basically the MK vs the one they thought they lost oh fuck oh no

Literally every encounter between Stonemason and the Pines and Gems after that, incredibly tension filled and upsetting hahah

Scenes of Stonemason on his own, showing signs of Dipper slipping through the cracks of the conditioning more and more as time goes on thanks to all of the encounters Stonemason has with his friends and family getting through to him

Stonemason vs. Maven. Nough said

Steven using his dream powers to finally find and communicate with Dipper inside his own head; it'd be kinda like that one bit in Dimensions but hhhh ya know even more gay and fucked up

Yellow would have had Stonemason attack Gravity Falls to lure "Rose" out; he's unmasked the entire time so that basically instills a lot of fear and mistrust in the townsfolk toward Dipper later on (more on that later)

Basically a redux of this oneshot I wrote a long time ago

The gang finally successfully capturing Stonemason

Steven and Mabel going inside his head to rescue Dipper, encountering Stonemason who tries to stop them; Dipper overpowering him and taking back control of his mind and body

Everyone's relieved, overjoyed reactions to Dipper finally being back golly

Dipper having to essentially get used to living like a human again (bc on Homeworld he didn't actually get food, he got "nutrition suplements" instead and Stonemason's armor probs had something in it to make sure he didn't need to sleep I don't fucking know) so ya know, adjustment period angst

Also Dipper adjusting the metal arm, not knowing how to control its strength at first, being upset that he has it and that it can't be removed, ect.

Townsfolk being angry and accusatory towards Dipper for the destruction Stonemason caused in town; surprisingly enough, Gideon of all people would have stood up for him, bc he understands what its like to have essentially an entire town turn against him too

Raising the Barn being so much more fucking devestating because Dipper begs Lapis to take him with her bc he's so scared of Yellow finding him and controlling him again; Lapis says she will, but ultimately doesn't (both because she doesn't want to take him away from his family so soon after they got him back and because she's worried Yellow might be able to track him through the arm)

Steven being ridden with guilt to the point that he considers making a deal with a certain dream demon to undo all this shit hehhehe

All that ^^ culminating with a Stepper appearence when Dipper assures Steven that he doesn't blame him for what's happened and still cares so much about him

There's a TON more but those are the standouts I have right now. Gotta keep all these fresh in my mind because I may actually end up writing this out after all. Just cause.

Mareven Scrap Idea

Maven after his death, falls into a limbo which is in a form of an alternate reality. Where he finds an version of him marrying Mare. No one could see him, hear him, only his otherself could:

He was stunned to say the least. Watching from a safe distance, aother version of him gently smiling at Mare, with his hand outstretched, luring her to the alter.

The other Maven couldn't take his eyes of her.

Maven can't blame him, Mare looked exquisite in her wedding gown, even the silver paint didn't damper her beauty.

Maven moved, needing a better look at both of them. Watching Mare move with fluid grace, yet her eyes were a storm of emotions. Fear, doubt but, as her eyes settle of the other Maven, it sparked with hope.

He was quiet for a while, as a distant memory passed through him. His Mare used to look at him like that as well, before all the horrors him and his mother put her through.

But this Mare looked at his other self with more than just hope. Love. Admiration. Trust.

He watched as his other self held Mare's hand. He expected her to pull away, grimace and even spit in his face.

Instead, she held his fingers tightly.

He felt a stab of jealousy. She looked at him the way he always wanted her to. Her love for her only friend, her companion, the ancher that kept her grounded in this sea of Silver.

Maven couldn't take it. He wanted to rip those two apart. He wanted to warn them. He wanted to yell at himself. He wanted Mare to end him again. All his emotions pulling him in different directions, but all he could do was watch and wait.

So he waited in the dark. Under the balcony of his and Mare's room.

"Those two sure are taking their time." He mumbled bitterly. Thinking how ridiculous this situation was.

Then he heard the door open. He considered waiting to see if its safe, but then realized no one could see him. He only hid to give them some privacy.

So he walked out of the shadows, as he turned to look at the balcony, hoping to see Mare in her nightgown bathed in moonlight, only to be greeted by himself looking down on him, his pale hand gripping the railing.

They both stared at each other for a moment.

Then the other Maven flicked his bracelet, summoning a ball of fire to illuminate them both.

"So I wasn't seeing things." The other Maven murmured. Blue eyes staring daggers at him.

Maven only signed, not bothered by his own fire aimed at him. "Ah". He tilted his head to the side. "So I wasn't as invisible as I thought I was."

Other Maven only looked annoyed and insulted. "Is this a joke? Another crude prank by a bloodhealer?" His words rushed as his face starts to flush silver. "And to do this on my wedding night!"

Maven opened his mouth to correct himself. "Well-"

"As much as you managed to look quite similar to me. You are far too thin, too gaunt and too poorly dressed to pass as a Nortan Prince." His other self hissed through his teeth.

Bastard. Maven for a moment wanted to throw a fireball at himself or better yet, his Mare wielding a letter opener.

He only scoffed and countered. "You are correct. I am no Nortan Prince. Most of my subjects address me as 'Your Highness' and all know me as King Maven Calore of House Merandus."

Other Maven's face contours into anger and even pity. "You deluded fool."

Throwing a fireball at him, only for it pass through his chest. It didn't hurt, but it did tickle.

His other self frowned puzzled, his posture becoming tense.

Maven chuckled, his voice sounding too smug, considering his current state. "And this fool, ruled over Norta and ended the 100 year War with the Lakelanders."

The other Maven looked at him again, observing him. From his pale, gaunt face to his plain clothing.

Other Maven raised his brow, his mouth lifting in a scowl. "Am I suppose to envy you?"

Maven only looked past his other's shoulder, peering into the dimly lit room.

He could picture Mare peacefully sleeping in their bed. Her brown waves spread around her like a dark halo and her lovely face pressed against the pillows. He could sense the cool, midnight air around them. She must be freezing.

"No." His voice soft, almost a whisper. "But I do envy you."

Then take it. A small voice in his head whispered to him. The small remnants of his mother's gift.

Those three simple words gave clarity to his jumbled mind.

He did took his perfect brother's birthright. Stole the crown that was never ment to graze his brow and ruled Norta for months.

By some miracle, he felt his heart beat fast in his chest, as he thought of a plan, a purpose.

Maven's musing was cut short when he heard the familiar sound of grinding teeth.

He looked back at his other self. Teeth bare, eyes filled with wrath. Maven could sense the waves of heat radiating from him. It seems he read his thoughts.

"Don't you dare." The other Maven flicked his bracelet, blue flame running up his arm burning his sleeves.

Maven glanced at the raging flames. Unimpressed by his other's poor attempt of a threat. They both know its not their flames that made others fear them. Yet the determination in his eyes, made it perfectly clear. He will not make it easy.

No matter. He has decided. He will steal this life.

i think the reason why i (and many others) like characters who don’t get happy endings so much is because their life is already so upsetting and unfair that even if they did wrong, their situation makes up for it and so we feel the need to stand up for them, show them love and support and continue fighting in their name. on the other hand if the character does get a happy ending even if i liked the character i don’t feel the need to love them as much anymore because they have enough love and happiness. they don’t need me.
