Ok i still haven’t finished any of the DRAWING drawing i was hoping to do… but i really wanted to have fun and play play and just doodle colourful stuff. So i opened up notes app on my phone to try messing around within those limitations and just go with the vibes! So i doodled ocs

1 and 2 are the same character. canonically they’re a bird (goliath heron) but in AU for funzies they can be one of my deer guys. Their name is Clarity, i’m not sure if i’ve posted them here before

3 & 4 are also related. I don’t think i finalized a name for her but she’s a flondon rattus faber. shes a silverer hermit, following a drastic falling out with her former wife (she’s a mouse named Archie who captains an airship)

#5 is an angry hissing snarling Sondetten. they are like a bittern to me and sometimes a goose

FT my plush bat buddies (they all come from etsy shop kaleidoscopeofgifts! they have such wonderful well designed handmade batties, many with very realistic designs based on real species, and some fun fantasy ones! i collected a bunch over a few years)

oh hey, did i ever get around to posting what i made in october?

Hello spotted bat mask constructed fully from pipe cleaners. This was an undertaking, because i’ve made pipecleaner dragons growing up and had made my azhdarchid character in pipecleaner recently at this point, but i’ve never tried to construct a mask, let alone like this (a material where you can only add a small amount of structure at a time, and is very hard to ‘edit’ once built upon). It was certainly a learning process and if i did it again (not ANY time soon..) i’d put the jaw hinge further back for sure. The pull forces make it squish in a direction that is painful ESPECIALLY when trying to fit in large and very necessary glasses. I tried looking into fursuit techniques for the jaw but i think i still just did not set it far back enough.

I looked online but couldn’t find any references for making something like this out of pipecleaner, so i was pretty much flying blind. I pulled up pics of a 3d model head in profile and front facing, then overlayed pics of spotted bats at those angles and scaled them to Roughly disguise the human head shape while keeping eyes aligned, and then sketched over and made sure heights of detailed lined up between both angles. Then i grabbed a standing makeup mirror (one of those ones that swivel) and just kinda. Started roughing out a structure in pipe cleaner and holding it to my face to compare to my refs.

I could find ONE reference for spotted bat teeth, and it was a viewable 3D skull model on uhh sketchfab? So much thanks to the makers of that, i tried to work off of it as best i could

The inside makes me think of those pics of like. ending up with your camera inside of a 3d mesh and seeing the rendered teeth and eyes in front of the reversed skin. And yea i just used a hair elastic in the middle as the ‘mechanism’ to keep the jaw closed. I tried two on either side but it was two strong and contributed to mask squishing and lack of space. The elastic is the only thing here that’s not pipecleaner.

And a shot of the 3D form of the ears. Honestly these are probably even still too short for a Spotted Bat, but plenty tall on top of my head lol! Went for this honeycomb-esque design for considerations of weight & structural soundness. the shape has changed a Little while sitting on my desk for 8-9 months but all around i think i have succeeded at a stable design that maintains its shape! And note the tragus, very important for many echolocating bats. This is the last thing i finished off right before i ran out of time. i wanted to add some whiskers in regular wire but i didn’t get there and haven’t gone back to add any

Everyone drawn so so so pretty,,,, cute lil Themis & Marie dancin’,,,, OPPORTUNITY,,,,, ODYSSEY,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Also they noticed before I did how perfectly my ocs for this headworld can be divided up? I realized there were 4 older members and 4 newer members but i didn’t realize further within that divide there also happened to be 2 exploration-aligned members and 2 mission control-aligned members each ?! Love the way they displayed everybody and the background is really nice :]
