He strode into her personal space. "Don't you dare. Don't you dare say I didn't. Because I did. I stayed. I waited...for you. You were the one who pushed me away. You were the one who-"

He paused, putting their foreheads together, his hands on her arms. Their proximity something he had always dreamed about but not in this manner. His heart clenched as he remembered again of what - who - he had lost.

In a whisper, he continued, "I love you, Alex. I have always loved you. From the moment you arrived during the table read with your cup of coffee and overly large sunglasses to the moment we said goodbye n Doctor Who. I have always loved you while standing outside your house with that Cyberman head you always wanted watching you be happy with someone else. I loved you as you broke my heart by walking down that aisle to someone who wasn't me. I loved you even though you never loved me back. I. Love. You. But that was something you never believed."

She opened her mouth to protest but he shushed her. "I'm not saying you didn't know. You didn't believe. You never did and never will." He tucked a stray curl like he always did and always will with a heartbroken smile. "But... that doesn't mean I ever stopped." He tried to laugh but it came out as a choked sob. "I don't think I can, 'Lex. I don't think I ever will."

He is greeted with a small murmur, but he can’t help but notice that Henry - Alex’s on-stage husband in the play they were acting in - doesn’t even turn around to acknowledge him. Instead, his blue eyes are staring determinedly at Alex’s sleeping form on the hospital bed, as though he believed the mere intensity of his stare would wake Alex.

Matt swallows a little, knowing that Henry was attracted to Alex long before they made the decision to separate - Alex always claimed he was merely a friend but it was clear that the other man wanted to be more than mere friends. He was the cause of many of their fights prior to their separation and Matt doesn’t have the strength to even look at him.

I've been looking for three fics for a long time. They are all older fics, 5 years old or older. If you can't find them, that's fine, they are all pretty obscure. 1) A fic with the Doctor (either 10 or 11) where he's traveling with the Master after locking him up in the TARDIS, I think after LotTL. River was in it, all though I don't remember if it was a Doctor/River fic. She seemed to vacillate between being intrigued and being disgusted with the Master. (1/2)

More info added in 2nd ask: “The first fic was definitely on ffnet. 2) This one I remember only vaguely. It was an AU, I think that takes place in the US, and it had Nine, Ten and Rose, plus other characters. I just remember a scene where Nine was talking to Rose about Ten (one of them named John Smith I think) and encouraging her to give him a second chance I think. I believe the scene took place on an airplane. It was on either ffnet or TSP. 3) A RP fic with Matt Smith and Alex Kingston. It was on ffnet.”

Um. It’s an AU. Mattex. Alex is somewhat recently divorced from Lord Snakeface and sitting on a decent amount of his money. She’s an artist now, rather than an actress. And she’s been talked by a friend into hiring a very classy escort service to provide some… company, since she’s been feeling lonely and washed up and worthless lately. She’s more than a little surprised when baby-faced but still very sexy and confident Matt shows up at her door, hardly what she’d been expecting. He’s very skilled at putting her at ease and listens to her and promises to satisfy her every need when she invites him into her bed. 

After the first very successful night with him, she decides to hire him again. And again. And again. Until it becomes a regular thing. She’s having the best sex of her life but finds herself having formed a pretty strong emotional connection with him. Some nights they don’t even have sex. And falling for the male prostitute she’s become a regular client of can’t be a good thing, even if it sometimes feels like he’s starting to think of her as more than just a client too. 

ETA a snippet since I do have a decent bit written and I don’t hate this fic:

“So let’s talk. Tell me a bit about yourself.”

Alex laughed hollowly. “What could we possibly have to talk about? You’re being paid to spend the night with me. The least I can do is not subject you to my life story.”

He shuffled closer to her, his face edgeing nearer and a smile lighting his face. “Now there’s where your wrong. I want to know all about you. I love getting to know a woman at the beginning of the evening. Finding out what she likes, what she does with her life, what it was that brought me to her doorstep. It’s fascinating and it lets me get to know you as a person. And the better I know you as a person, the better I’ll know how to please you later, once you’ve invited me into your bedroom.”

The boy - man, she had to keep reminding herself - certainly had a way with words. Or maybe it was just his voice, the timbre of it unlocking something within her that put her at ease and stoked the fires within her simultaneously. She’d barely known him three minutes, all he’d done was touch her hand, and already she could feel her inhibitions start to slip away.

2. Why do you write fanfiction?

Because right now it’s one of the handful of things that bring me joy. Writing, reading, coming up with new plots and discussing wips with friends - it just makes me so happy. and of course, sometimes things in canon just aren’t satisfactory enough so i really do want to add to that and make it my own version of things, you know? i think it’s really nice when i share my thoughts and pov of river and the doctor’s relationship (in fic form) and people comment saying they really like how i’ve interpreted them. it just makes me very very happy and i need that a lot :)

4. Are there any writers that inspire you?

Some of my friends who happen to be writers too inspire me on a daily basis. They come up with amazing headcanons, or they really really want a very specific type of story done, and it inspires me to write because i’m able to build a whole plot around that specific thing. i’d also like to add, at the risk of sounding like the most pretentious human being, that i do inspire myself sometimes. writing just brings me so much joy that i am constantly searching for inspiration and i’ve learnt to really appreciate how little details can change a story magnificently, which inspires me to create a whole different world out of a small detail. 

12. Tell us a WIP you’re excited about.

hehehehe well. i’ve been posting loads about a bridgerton AU for 12/river, and that’s obviously coming - i’ve written out a first chapter and i’m editing it now as well as writing a second chapter. it follows the bridgerton tv series quite loyally in terms of the plot and storylines, but i’ve altered it a bit so that it fits river and 12 specifically. after that i’m definitely going back to the prince/prostitute AU (i’m horrible about that one and i’m so sorry), and after that one’s done i’ll hopefully go back to writing more mattex because i do sorely miss them.

1. If you’re an author, how many WIPs do you currently have? (Be honest!)

yikes. umm. upwards of like. twenty. i always start with what i think will be the first few opening paragraphs of the fic and now i’ve probably got so much more than i can handle. so yeah, i’d say about twenty or thirty plus. 

10. Mutual pining or enemies to friends to lovers?

omg mutual pining for sure!!! i do love enemies to friends to lovers as well but theres just something about two idiots pining for each other from afar that just sticks to my heart.

12. Friends with benefits or secret dating?

Friends with benefits to lovers lmaoooo i just love that casual sex angst and gradually developing feelings for each other without the other knowing and just realising what the other person means to them at a random moment. it’s sooo goood! tho as a mattex shipper secret dating is a great one too

19. What’s your favorite character headcanon?

I know this isnt exactly a character headcanon as much as a shipping headcanon but the one i really really believe that’s quite popular is that the doctor and river frequently go for honeymoons throughout time and space, and by the time they’re on darillium it’s like their 500th honeymoon lmaoo

According to ao3, around 200k+ words. But that doesn’t include the tumblr prompts or fics that went unposted, so on the whole i would say around 250k~ words, rounding up.

Oof. It’s got to be the reality of everything, no contest.

Might not be the least popular, since the mattex fandom is really small in comparison to the yowzah fandom, but i think it’s we’ll live in love forever. 

14. A fic you didn’t expect to write. 

Umm - i had no plans to ever complete my badporn rewrite so i guess it’s you deserve a chance at the kind of love i’m not sure i’m worthy of.

Yes!! I’m planning to start the year by finishing the current wip i’m posting, and then i’m moving directly to a mattex succubus au. 

23. Fics you wanted to write but didn’t.

Omg so many. A professors au with twelve/river that i will definitely be writing next year. A canon divergence where the doctor and river’s timelines are synced and none of the angst happens. A fic that kind of explores the idea behind river’s hiding the damage. A twelve/river adventure on darillium involving a company that wants to have river brought in because of her biological makeup to produce medicines that enhances humans. A mattex cruise au where they meet on a singles cruise. Another mattex fic where they made a sex tape that went viral years later, after they broke up and are with other people. A mattex fic involving them attending marriage counselling. A mattex fic where they’re married and matt has found out that he’ll be working with alex’s ex husband. Those are just off the top of my head, i’m certain that there are loads more that isn’t coming to me at the moment.

Hi!!! This is for the wip challenge.

Okay im in the process of posting this one! you can find it here. To summarise, Matt just went through a bad public breakup. His ex is his costar for a movie that’s being nominated for a bunch of awards. Award season is coming up and he finds out that she’s going with a hot new director and he feels irrationally jealous and pathetic because it’s only been a month since they broke up. Coincidentally, he’s set to meet with Alex.

Here’s a snippet from an upcoming chapter, because i think that this is some of the most decent writing i’ve done in awhile:

Both of them know that the other can feel this - this thing between them; this thing that whispers that their kisses aren’t pretend, that every touch isn’t for the world to see but for the other to feel, that every longing gaze isn’t some part of a well thought-out script and they’re merely the actors.

50 - would you mind describing the next few fics that you intend to post/are currently writing?

Oh!!! Thank you for the question, anon!!! I do so love posting about my wips hehe

Okay so! I have a few that are in the works now. I’m posting the last chapter of my spacewives fixit in a few minutes! And afterwards, I’ll be posting a twelve/river au where they haven’t met each other yet but they have to spend a few weeks in a safe house together and twelve is supposed to be sort of guarding her. I’m in the process of writing this one - i’ve got four chapters done and ready to go, but two more are yet to be written. 

I’ve also got a yowzah anniversary fic that i can’t talk about because it’s a surprise. But it’s a human au and it’s thirteen/river. I’m maybe about a quarter way done for this one? it’s a cute little oneshot and i’m so excited about it.  I’m also starting a cruise au for all my mattex readers - matt and alex go on a singles cruise and they fall in lurveeeee while attending all the cruise ship activities. I’ve been wanting to write this fic since i started work at a cruise centre like six months ago and now i’m finally doing it. Gimme a yassssss!!!!!

Fortnight: what wip do you plan on posting next, if at all?

Oooh! well, it depends on if i’m able to complete the spacewives fixit that i’m currently stuck on (i’m sorry to those who are waiting for the next chapter, i swear i’m working on it!!!) but umm well there’s a secret yowzah anniversary fic that i’m working on now that i will hopefully post on april 22. But if i complete the spacewives fixit by then, i will probably start posting a twelve/river au where they both are stuck in a safe house without previously having known one another (i’m pretty proud of this one). I’ve got the first four chapters (there are six; i lost the last two somewhere, but i’m rewriting it soon hopefully) 

July: what’s the hottest fic you’ve ever posted?

The one i posted just last night, which is a mattex fic based on jealousy and lust. If you wanna check it out, you can here!

December: have you ever gifted a fic to someone?

I have! I’ve gifted several fics to some great friends i’ve made last year. 

Calendar: Do you have a schedule for posting?

It depends on the fic. Whether it’s completed, how long it is etc etc. When i was posting my longfic, I posted two chapters a week because I’d already completed it and there were almost thirty chapters. But with my spacewives fic, it isn’t completed yet so there isn’t a fixed schedule. Normally, i’d do a once a week type of thing, which i think is the norm around ao3. 

But if we’re talking about posting in general, i’d like to at least update an existing fic or post a new one every month. I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep up with that, but I haven’t failed so far so *crosses fingers*.

Tuesday: name a fic you have posted that you think is overrated?

Ummm,,,, i don’t think i have one that’s overrated yet. Is that arrogant to say? Idk, i just think that compared to a lot of the writers here i’m still just a newbie trying to gain readers. 

May: a fic you have regretted posting?

I can’t honestly say that i’ve regretted posting anything. I love all my stories, even the ones that are just smut (though i love those just a little bit less) and i don’t regret posting them at all. 

August: are any of your fics associated with any genres/artists/songs?

Not the ones posted, no. But there is a mattex fic coming up inspired by a carrie underwood song called ‘i told you so’ which is so heartbreaking. I’m not sure when i’ll be posting it, though. 

Minutes: how long does it normally take for you to finish a fic?

A few months, if it’s a long fic. If it’s a oneshot, probably just a week or two. 

Today: have you made any progress on any wips today?

Yikes. No i have not. But tomorrow, i will get on it lmaooo.

12. Describe your perfect writing space. 

Alone. Table, chair, notebook/iPad, silence - or, if i need it, piano music. I don’t really need to be alone, but i do need silence.

14. How do you deal with self-doubts?

Honestly? I cry a lot because of self-doubts. Majorly. But i tell myself that yo, as much as you love getting comments and validation from other fans, the entire reason i started wasn’t to become a BNF. I started writing fanfic because i had a brilliant idea that i hadn’t seen anyone do for the fandom before, so i shared it. I started writing fanfic because the canon or real life material stopped being enough. 

And if that doesn’t work, i go back to my previous fics and reread every single comment on my stories. I remind myself that even though it isn’t much, even though it isn’t as much as whatever writer, people do like my stuff. And it’s a small comfort, but it’s a comfort nonetheless so i’ll take it anyway

15. How do you deal with writers’ block?

I read all the time. I reread my stories, my favourite fanfics, fics i’ve been saving, i just read and read and read until i run out of things to read and i get this desperate feeling to just create more content for the ships. It works everytime for me :)

20. How many WIPs and story ideas do you have?

Too fucking many to count lmaoooo. I’m such an idiot, i fuckin swear. I have so many ideas and i don’t know how to keep track of them and i feel like i’m running around in circles tending to every idea on different levels and each time i finish tending to one idea ten more ideas enter the circle and i have no idea what the fuck i’m doing.

No, i really do have so many ideas. If you want me to elaborate further on them, you can totally send me a separate ask and i’ll answer it there! But this post is getting too long and i don’t wanna intrude on anyone’s dash lolol.

30. Favourite idea you haven’t started on yet?

Gahhhhhh so many. You have no idea, anon. So, so many, and I’m desperate to write everything that i feel like i’m stretching myself thin trying to grasp at them before the motivation fades. But my top for both ships are:

Doctor/River: a linear au where everything is exactly as it is in canon except the doctor’s and river’s relationship isn’t timey-wimey complicated. They meet in linear order, they fall in love in linear order. The only instance where time travel is involved in their relationship is when river goes to demon’s run after baby melody has been stolen and tells them that everything will be fine because she’s here and she’ll be fine. I have been sitting on this idea for more than a year, guys. But it feels like such a fucking massive project that i’m so scared to get started on it. Hopefully one day i’ll get the guts to. 

Mattex: i really want some established relationship angst with them. So i’ve been sitting on an idea where they��re married, both their careers are going splendidly, their families are amazing and they have such supportive friends - but their marriage isn’t going so well. They want to fix it, so they seek a marriage counsellor for help. And from then, the story progresses on how they fix their relationship.
