Jensen Ackles is so glad he can finally talk about playing Batman in The Long Halloween
Watch EW's Around the Table discussion with the cast and creators of DC's latest animated film about the Dark Knight.
One of the greatest Batman stories of all time is finally coming to the screen. Originally published as a 12-issue comic series by writer Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale, Batman: The Long Halloween is a yearlong murder mystery in which Gotham City's organized crime figures keep getting killed on holidays. Though Batman is trying to take down the mafia alongside his allies Commissioner Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, they don't support extrajudicial killings - especially when the witnesses they need to formulate a case against the crime bosses keep ending up among the dead.
Next week Warner Bros. will release Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One, the first of a two-part animated adaptation of the story. EW assembled a roundtable of actors Jensen Ackles (Batman) and Julie Nathanson (Gilda Dent), writer-producer Tim Sheridan, and supervising producer Butch Lukic to discuss their take on the classic tale.
One of the first topics that came up was the fact that The Long Halloween has been in development for years, but it was stalled for a time when Warner Bros. thought Matt Reeves might use the story for his live-action movie The Batman. When that film, starring Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight, ultimately went a different direction, the animated version was able to proceed. That means those involved are finally able to talk about it - and Ackles is definitely ready to talk about Batman.
You may have seen Ackles dress up as the Dark Knight for Halloween 2019. As many fans wished, the actor is now playing Batman for real - and in one of the character's best story lines, no less.
"I come from a previous film where I voiced Red Hood," Ackles says. "So when I got the call for this, I assumed I would be reprising that role into whatever story these guys were adapting. But then I realized I'd gotten the upgrade! I don't think they even got the whole word 'Batman' out. They were like, 'Bat-' and I was like, yes!"
When it comes to the Halloween getup, Ackles admits, "I couldn't help myself." But it also came together organically.
"I had this wonderful crew person I was working with who hand-made costumes and cosplay stuff," Ackles says. "She didn't even know. She did a Red Hood version for me. She was like, 'I'm gonna do a Batman, would you be my mannequin?' And inside I was like, 'If you only knew!'"
Although the masculine trio of Batman, Dent, and Gordon are at the center of The Long Halloween, this adaptation also centers female characters. Nathanson's Gilda pokes holes in Harvey's heroism, while Catwoman (voiced by the late Naya Rivera) keeps Batman on his toes.
"There's a lot of, well, duality in this particular film," Nathanson says, in a tease to fans who know or suspect where The Long Halloween leads. "But I think the female characters also have their own two sides. I hold that as Gilda, having her own personal space and stuff she's dealing with, and her guardedness because of pain, mixed with her desire to connect with her husband. The women get to play with that duality and that strength as well."
Watch the video above for more. Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One releases digitally and on Blu-ray on June 22, with Part Two following later this summer.

Talks Machina Highlights - Critical Role C2E113 (Oct. 27, 2020)
Good evening and good night, lovely people of the world! We’re on the internet and ready to go. Tonight’s guests are Travis Willingham and Sam Riegel. This will be calm, controlled, and sane, I can feel it. Brian points out it’s been seven months since either of them were on Talks. Oof. (Sam asks if it’s been going the whole time without him. Bigger oof.) Travis keeps sneaking bites out of an acai bowl or something and tries to look sneaky about it, and I laugh every time because he’s just...so big. He’s such a big person.
(Brian is wearing a lobstrosity shirt. He and Travis talk about Dark Tower for a bit; then Sam tries to get into the conversation: “Is that the thing from It?” Brian: “Is what the thing from It?” Sam: “Is that lobster the clown from It? I’m not very literate. Is that a Langolier? Is that a Shawshank?”)
Announcements: none! Maybe they just forgot. We’ve been talking about Sam’s spooky skeleton decorations for like five minutes. Brian suggests taking them to Travis’s house. Travis: “That’s the fastest way to get to the smell of burning plastic.” Brian: “Speaking of your girlfriend...”
On Avantika: Fjord wouldn’t call it a relationship as much as a casual sexual interaction. Not official! Super not official!!
The first sea voyage wasn’t great for Fjord, but he tried to be thoughtful about preparing for this one before they left: praying, kneeling at the bow of the ship, etc. He’s a little disappointed the Wildmother didn’t even throw him a “yo, fam” heads up.
They weren’t sure how to resolve the conflict at first, since Avantika went for Fjord rather than the crystal. No one expected it to get exposed in that way. Travis thought the necklace was a pocket dimension and was alarmed to learn it wasn’t. Travis wants it destroyed along with the third gateway, so until they are he won’t rest easy.
Everyone enjoyed watching them all fail on the battlefield again. (Sam: “You used [Counterspell] so effectively!”) Travis thought he’d said Thunder Step, which would imply Avantika was running, rather than Thunder Wave. Sam says it’s fine since none of them have that spell and he wouldn’t know it anyway.
It’s very difficult for Veth to find reasons to stay with the M9. She loves the adventures and making a difference, but she also wants to come home and have weekends and have a husband and life. “She’s a career girl!” He’s very excited about the possibilities of Caleb’s transportation effectively creating an easy commute for her. He also, as a player, doesn’t want to be the person who’s always leaving the party. “My characters wanna roam!”
Travis was fully tilted that Avantika might have gotten away right before the break. He doesn’t think he could have focused on Vess DeRogna’s task knowing Avantika had gotten away; he was seriously working out how Fjord would leave the party to go make a last stand at the third gate if she’d escaped.
Sam looooves how Matt plays Yeza, but it honestly makes him feel a little worse at how encouraging he is for Veth to chase her dreams. “He’s always like - go shine! Go blossom!” He wants to have the conversation about Yeza feeling a little ignored. It’s fun to share the tales of adventures with Luc & Yeza.
Travis says there’s no way it’s Molly--it’s all Lucien. They don’t know if it was a resurrection, if he’s undead, possessed, etc. Everyone--everyone--rags on Taliesin’s accent work. Brian surreptitiously claims Ashly was brought on to relieve him of the burden of the accent. Poor Ashly, ha!
Initially, Travis landed on the Oath of the Ancients, but it had more nature & pacifism in it than he felt fit Fjord very well. Many of them also had a focus on good & lawfulness, which also didn’t feel quite right; he also wasn’t that vengeful for some of the others. He & Matt got together and discussed options. Matt asked what Travis liked about Fjord; Fjord’s love for the ocean was a huge part of it, since Travis himself also loves the ocean & scuba diving, and so Matt created a custom oath for him. Travis does not plan to post its details, but he thinks Matt will at some point.
Cosplay of the Week! a lovely Scanlan by Air Bubbles Cosplay! Sam tells us the “canon” Scanlan cosplay was actually borrowed hodgepodge, and the boots were falling off all day.
It was really cool to see how Yeza & Luc have made a home in Nicodranas. Felderwin was okay, but kind of your basic D&D fishing village, and she likes the Nicodranas is much better. She’s confident & comfortable knowing her family is safe and sound.
Why is Fjord so interested in finding Sabian? To him, post-orphanage, his time with Vandren was the best of his life & the most love he’d ever received, because he mattered & had worth. It was taken by someone he’d known basically his whole life, so Fjord is not going to let that go. “That fuckin’ bill needs to be paid, my friend.”
Sam acknowledges that he should NOT have looked at his phone in re: the Vilya reveal, but it was pretty surprising! He can’t believe none of them recognized it! Travis points out the M9 had never met, heard of, or known anything about Vilya, so it’s not that surprising. Brian points out Matt has also done a really good job keeping the two campaigns separate, so any references were tasteful. Sam marvels that it was so well done: it was tasteful, had emotional and story impact... “That Matt. He’s getting better!”
Liam texted Sam back something like “oh SHIT.”
Knowing Veth had a chance to help someone else return to her child made Veth feel almost karmically forgiven for being away from her kid, but it also made Veth a little guilty--”this lady wants to desperately return home, shouldn’t I want to go home too?” Caleb’s teleportation spell couldn’t have come a better time.
Sam wants Caleb & Astrid to get back together (well, he says “hump each other”), and Dani’s eyebrows climb off her forehead. Veth/Nott really thinks Caleb needs to have a roll in ze hay, and feels like after meeting her that there is a kindness or vulnerability to her that could be worthwhile. Travis thinks she feels like someone tethered, that it feels like she has a bomb or something in her chest that’ll explode if she tries to leave. Sam thinks Eadwulf is super cool. None of these names are spelled like I think.
Travis found the dinner super frustrating, because he felt Caleb was trying to walk a diplomatic line and he just wanted to backhand Trent.
Fjord is still coming to terms with his feelings for Jester, and the feelings are definitely real, but there’s a lot of timing that he’s considering and he also wants to figure out what the relationship is like outside of constant tension and battle. Fjord is also having trouble figuring out how to exercise the ability to display affection as well since he’s never received them, and is feeling out how to give and receive them. “It’s fine now, because he’s feeling it, but once you say it out loud, or once you come to a point where you make it known to the other side, then what happens? It might be ruined. It might be broken. Or it might not be! The moment with the porcelain unicorn was too good not to try. Travis also sighs that he’s not a romance D&D guy, “but now I am! Fuckin’ Laura Bailey!” He’s definitely feeling it out and will see how it unfolds in the game.
If Jester hadn’t let go of the Traveler, Fjord would have either attacked the Traveler or the Moonweaver and tried to kick them both off.
Sam doesn’t think the Traveler’s realized yet what a dick he is. Brian thinks it may not happen in this campaign, but agrees the full weight of what he deserves hasn’t been felt yet. Travis: “Yeah, he came to the edge, but it didn’t cost him anything.” Brian: “Yeah, he’s a real edgelord.”
Fanart of the Week! a beautiful portrait of Molly in the snow by @claygryphon on twitter.
Veth acknowledges that they work for shady people with shady pasts, so Vess DeRogna isn’t her first rodeo, but this time it’s personal. It’s Jaws 2: Electric Boogaloo. Sam can’t commit to actual actions, since Vess is like level 20 or something, but “I will get some kinda revenge. Be it petty or significant, I will get revenge.”
How are they feeling about being in Eiselcross? They’ve only just landed, so not sure yet. The cold is intimidating. They’re excited to explore a new island that’s part of Wildemount, especially with the river of lava running through it. “It’s icy with lava? Sounds like a Dairy Queen.”
There’s still a ton of unknowns regarding the Tombtakers, Vess, the nature of their job, and who’s here on whose orders. They’re excited to see how it’s all going to play out. Travis laughs that he doesn’t take notes, he’s just here to fight things. It just washes over him when Matt starts talking about names and places. “It’ll reveal itself in time. [...] I don’t write those notes down. I don’t even know how to spell it off the bat.” I have never identified more with Travis. Sam actually does pay attention and take notes and was really impressed by Marisha’s dive.
Veth became interested in branding her own spellcraft as soon as she saw Caleb doing it. “That’s what the influencer agents are gonna be looking at. It would be nice to leave the world better than we found it, but also with some branded spells.”
What were Fjord’s thoughts on dropping so much money on the ring & the Ioun stone? It wasn’t about money for Fjord, it was about a cool thing to acquire. It’s why he saves money in his campaign. Caleb needs “as much of a flak jacket as he can get.” He also REJECTS the idea of buyer’s remorse on the ring and touts the effectiveness it’ll have on the lava river.
Travis talks about his old coins - a 340AD coin he bought at a ren faire and a 120BC coin that was a gift from a friend.
Sam marvels at the love and thought that Caleb put into the tower. Sam points out they forgot to go to the top two floors altogether. Travis: “Did the mansion get as much careful planning from Scanlan as the tower did from Caleb?” Sam: Absolutely not. But they were still thinking small in C1, figuring out how things went, and they didn’t have as much detail in their heads yet.
And that’s all the time we have for tonight! We end on everyone whispering way too close into their mics and tapping fingernails on mason jars. A fitting end to this crazy episode, I think.
Is it Thursday yet?

Did you see the Batman? What do you think about it?
i sure did </3
First of all. Wildly mediocre to outright bad. I have no idea what movie everyone else on here saw but it sure wasn’t the same one I did. “This batman isn’t for the fanboys” “this is the first real Batman” “this is the one true emo bruce wayne” shut up and just admit you’ve never seen a single batman movie before this. the batman somehow manages to be even more film bro than the nolanverse films. Jesus Christ the movie is three hours long and for WHAT. every single scene dragged on for an age and a half.
imo Bruce Wayne is as much an important factor in a batman work as batman itself. here bruce Wayne’s most prominent scene is the funeral/memorial in which he maybe has two lines max and otherwise just stands around looking greasy. other than that he has what? 2-3 short scenes mumbling to himself in the batcave and another short scene visiting alfred in the hospital. in this THREE HOUR LONG movie he spends the entire rest of the time as batman. you could feasibly take every single scene where he’s not in costume out of the movie and barely affect the plot or runtime. JUST batman is so incredibly boring. it’s also no wonder every single fandom and batfam person on here just immediately latched onto this version of bruce because he literally barely exists as a character and thus he’s just fully a blank slate to project anything you want onto.
god also he’s batman the whole movie and doesn’t do a single actual batman thing except for the ONE singular scene towards the end when he’s in the elevator. that’s it. every other time he just straight up walks out of the shadows. no finesse. no panische. boring. “Oh it’s supposed to be more noir detective inspired” well this ain’t it chief. he sucks at it. this is supposed to be The Batman.
the soundtrack is completely forgettable and the whole ave maria motif/theme is more annoying and distracting than anything else. all the costume design is horrendously ugly from the jigsaw gimp mask riddler to the dollar story catwoman cosplay selina. collin ferril honestly could have been a better penguin without all those godawful and ugly prosthetics. he was WASTED on the Penguin and was literally just him in name only. the studio wouldn’t even let him SMOKE. he barely did anything in the movie either and you could honestly take him out entirely and also change nothing. and yet he’s getting his own entire hbo show. for some reason.
pattinson as batman himself is also completely devoid of personality or character. i keep seeing these posts about how he has the best character development arc in a long time and how that how scene with the flare is about him inspiring HOPE and ACCEPTING HIS TRUE ROLE AS BATMAN and im just. lmao okay. sure. battinson is barely more than a cardboard cutout of himself the entirely of the movie. matt Reeves tried SO hard to hit that noir angle and missed the mark entirely.
anyways. that’s what I can remember to complain about as of this moment. i only saw the movie because my dad wanted to. i really would rather watch all three nolanverse films than this because at least christian bale can actually act. and! even his bruce wayne is far more enjoyable.
as an aside, my personal ranking of the various bats
1. ben affleck
2. val Kilmer
3. George Clooney (he made batman gay)
4. Michael Keaton
5. Christian Bale
Adam West ranks too far above absolutely everyone to demean him by being listed alongside everyone else. he’s in his own category.

Recently finished the first 20 issues of the Zdarsky Daredevil run
My thoughts:
(Spoilers)
Art is legit gorgeous I love it so
Matt’s a little hoe and I love that for him
Came out around the same time as the show’s second and third season so there’s a decent character-actor resemblance
Holy shit we’re getting serious right off the bat the first issue literally ends with Matt killing someone on accident
Frank’s a good boyfriend but he’s also very bummed out that Matt doesn’t actually want to be murder husbands
Matt’s “Punisher Cosplay” is such an iconic look and moment
Getting brief Danny/Matt vibes from when Matt’s on the couch with him
Elektra’s hair is everything
The whole exploration of morality is really really interesting and we get all different sides of the conflict
MattFoggy adorableness
Karen doesn’t really pop up, I think that’s because chronologically she’s dead???
Redhead Matt really grew on me
Never ever thought I’d see Fisk and Matt fight back to back but you know what they make it work
Wish this plotline was in the show honestly although the whole thing about the super powerful rich family would be outside of the scope of the show
I like this new police detective guy even if I’m constantly thinking he’s Luke
Love that the other cops legit just let Matt and the new guy duke it out
Honestly I don’t know what Matt’s complaining about, Elektra was well within her rights to take a finder’s fee if they were stealing already
Matt’s bed remains obscenely large
Pushing past the whole sleeping with a married woman thing (which is its whole own thing) maybe we should not have sex in front of the window to the book shop where her husband and family live on the second floor???
The nun being Typhoid Mary I totally did not see coming but I think if I’d read previous runs I’d already know that
Fisk getting beat up, very satisfying
Love how much effort and detail were put into every panel and then the bookshop is literally just called “Books are awesome”
the artist clearly has a fetish for Matt’s physique and I appreciate it
the brief Spidey cameo is absolutely worth every panel I love him

soft jemily halloween hc's? 🥺🎃🍂🏚️👻
:)
Okay Halloween is hands down their favorite holiday (Christmas has its charm, but Halloween beats it out easily in their opinion)
They are that cringey couple that coordinate their costumes to match
They always come up with the best ones too
The first year everyone walks into the office during Halloween, they’re all shocked to see Emily Prentiss, normally stoic and serious “chief in charge”, dressed up as Flynn Rider from Tangled
Exact outfit, exact boots, exact hairstyle
She even went as far as to complete the look by using makeup to replicate his beard and sideburns on her own face
Like seriously, even Penelope and Spencer are like “????!?!?! What?!????!!!”because they haven’t seen this side of Emily ever
JJ then walks by the group, dressed up as Repunzel (complete with a long flowing wig) with an innocent shrug
“What can I say? I’m very convincing.” She tells the group with a smirk before she leans up and kisses Emily’s cheek before heading back to work
[No one has to know that the costumes were really Emily’s idea all along]
After that year, no one bats an eye when the two come in dawned in their spectacular cordinated costumes
Penelope is always so impressed by them (ok, she might internally fangirl a bit over them because she’s definitely Emily and JJ’s number one “shipper”)
Spencer always innocently pitches new ideas for them to try for the next year (he has no idea that they already have the next year’s costumes planned out, but his contributions are sweet and well thought out anyway)
Tara is 100% their hype woman when it comes to seeing and complimenting their costumes (they’re too cute or perfectly planned out to not)
Luke tried to out do their costumes every year and it becomes a friendly competition of sorts to see who can come up with the best ideas
(He eventually convinces Spencer that they should wear the costumes he always suggests for Emily and JJ)
Matt and Rossi always sit back at watch the madness unfold each year (Matt for the entertainment and Rossi because he’s a proud dad to a group of a bunch of chaotic, competitive gays)
Emily and JJ stay at their house to hand out candy because Spencer and Penelope always take the boys trick-or-treating
(Luke comes along when he and Spencer start dating)
Michael and Henry always have the best costumes, not only because of their moms, but because Auntie Pen and Uncle Spence are cosplay professionals
They’ve been going to cons together for years, they definitely have friends and contacts that can make the best, most accurate costumes for the kids
Michael always wants to go as random things
One year, he goes as a washing machine [don’t ask]
You bet your ass, JJ, Emily, Spencer and Penelope worked their asses off to make sure little Michael was the cutest damn washing machine the neighborhood had ever seen
Henry’s costumes depend on his latest obsession
He went as Dipper Pines and had a Journal #3 that Emily had gotten him for his birthday
(He only discovers later that night when he comes back from trick or treating that the journal is signed by the Alex Hirsch and, wow, he’s so hype by it)
Anyway
Emily and JJ’s house is the best on the block because, not only do they always hand out full sized candy bars, but they give out multiple king sized candy bars and glow sticks
Their house is always decorated to the max
They have pumpkins littered in the yard, fake cobwebs in the bushes, inflatables in the yard
They have a fog machine to add some creepy ambiance
And a strobe light that makes the fog and the pumpkin’s mouths glow different colors
Their decorations are never gory or too scary
The most they do is put up fake skeletons and dress them up in generic costumes
They have a Bluetooth speaker that plays songs from a Halloween playlist JJ has on her phone
Emily finds a laser that they can set up so it flashes in time with the music and they have a mini laser light show flashing on their garage all night for everyone to watch
(They both end up with Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” stuck in their head by the end of the night)
They sit by each other the whole night in two folding lawn chairs, each with a mug of steaming cider
They sneak a few pieces of candy throughout the designated trick or treating hours
Emily sets aside a few Take 5 bars for JJ
JJ sets aside a few Twix bars for Emily
When the boys get home with pillow cases full of candy, it’s tradition for everyone to come inside Emily and JJ’s house to sort through it while a Halloween themed movie plays in the background
The boys [yes, including Luke and Spencer] end up watching the movie more than sorting through the candy
But, hey, they don’t catch the girls sneaking pieces of candy for themselves (it’s an unspoken rule that Penelope gets all the cherry twizzlers, so she ends up with a generous pile of them by the end of the night)
The boys each get one piece of candy—Henry gets the Reeces and Michael gets the SweetTarts
The girls separate the boys candy into two bowls, chocolates in one and “fruity” and other candies in another
After the movie and candy sorting, the godparents leave
Emily and JJ both help the boys get ready for bed
Emily reads them a bedtime story, but both boys are out before she’s even halfway done reading
But it’s okay because after the boys are asleep, it’s adult™️ time
That “adult time” being they both cuddle on the couch in their pjs with a glass of wine and watch their own Halloween movie pick
It’s almost always a horror movie
JJ’s favorite is The Conjouring
Emily’s is The Ring
JJ hates jump scares and will always bury her head in Emily’s neck when one is coming up
Emily’s hand is always tightly gripped in JJ’s during the scenes with the most tension
After the movie, they’ll sit and just cuddle with each other, share soft kisses every so often until one of them finally decides that they need to go to sleep
(It’s usually JJ)
She’ll carry Emily up to bed (shut up, Emily loves when JJ carries her)
They’ll cuddle up with each other in the sheets, pressed together so that there’s no space between them
And fall asleep in each other’s arms :)

Just all of them for the crit role either or asks
Oh hell yeah!
Thank you for this, now I have something to do during class lol
(Spoiler Warning for campaign 1&2 and Dalen’s closet !)
1. Campaign one or campaign two?
Definitely two, I’m biased since I started during campaign two and haven’t watched all of the first yet. I definitely will finish it soon though since the current campaign is on pause.
2. Vex’ahlia or Jester?
I would die for jester without a second thought, I love her so much. She’s the perfect mix of a silly personality, and I just want her to be happy,, please Mercer,,,
I do like Vex though, the whole wedding one-off murdered my heart.
3. Vax’ildan or Caleb?
Shit, that’s really hard because I’m a sucker for the raven queen and the whole scene with him coming back at the wedding, Matt and Liam did such an amazing job that was so good. But also what is better than sexy wizards… nothin. Caleb has grown on me a lot, he has made so many developments and Essek n him? Oh my heart, forehead kisses will be the death of me. Caleb, sorry Vax.
4. Pike or Yasha?
Do I have a crush on Ashley? Yes. Does that influence my feelings on Yasha? Absolutely. Pike is a sweetheart but women that could carry me without batting an eye can have my soul. She is just so caring and “I smell like crayons.” Actually murdered me.
5. Keyleth or Beauregard?
While I will never stop laughing over Keyleth dying as a goldfish, Beauregard hits home. Also fucks. And I respect that.
6. Scanlan or Tary or Nott?
Nott. I’m sorry but her character growth has been crazy and I’m so glad she is finally comfortable in her own skin, she deserves it! Also, Sam fucking kills me, that man is literally comedy gold.
7. Percy or Mollymauk or Caduceus?
Fuck how am I supposed to pick between any of these… Mollymauk will always hold a special place in my heart I literally bawled when he died, long may he reign. It’s gotta be Caduceus, Talesin seems so comfortable paying him and I love his chill vibe versus the chaos of the rest of the party.
8. Grog or Fjord?
I love Fjord for many reasons but also because every time I see his name my brain reads it as fij-ord even tho I know the proper way to say it. Ep 98 had me so scared, the start of the episode was so nice, I was tricked!
9. Trinket or Frumpkin?
I’m a cat gal, Frumpkin literally warms my heart so much and the art everyone does is so cute!!
10. Vox machina or the Mighty nein?
Haha it's probably pretty obvious at this point, M9
11. Gilmore or Pumat sol?
Pumat, the telephone story about him was so funny and I got so scared in the cathedral. I love soft seeming characters that can whoop ass if need be.
12. Kima or Keg?
Keg is literally me but a fantasy version. Her letter to Beau after their one night stand was so funny, “your eyes are so pretty when you smile, I love Thanks.”
13. Zahra or Calianna?
Calianna, bro the cosplay and art? Tasty.
14. Kashaw or Shakäste?
Shakaste!! My dude! I love Jester messaging him, good shit.
15. Kaylie or Marion lavorre?
Ruby of the red sea, I love how Mercer portrays her. He does an amazing job, she gives off big dick vibes and I support her.
16. Clarota or Lorenzo?
Lorenzo was terrifying, the dude kept talking while on FIRE. Scariest shit and he killed MollyMauk so he is already a monster (literally, as well). Caleb’s “You shouldn’t have killed my cat.” oh heck yea.
17. The Raven queen or the traveler?
The traveler and his whole reveal was hilarious, can’t wait for traveler con. But, Raven Queen is my favorite, I’m just a sucker for the cracked porcelain mask what can I say.
18. Sarenrae or the Stormlord?
Stormlord, the lighting aesthetic is so badass I really want to play a character involved with him so bad.
19. Emon or Wildemount?
WIldmount, have you seen the book put out? That shit is wild how does Mercer do this… I want his brain so I can dm for my friends better lol.
20. How do you want to do this or nerdy-ass voice actors?
Nerdy ass voice actors!! Though the relief/excitement in how do you want to do this is top tier
21. The campaign one cosplay intro or the campaign two animated intro?
I love animation, always have, I admire/envy those artists so much. It gets me so hyped for the show like you wouldn’t believe, that theme song kicks ass
22. Travis’ refusal to believe in dice superstitions or laura’s hoard of dice?
I only play with one pair because I really like it (though I lost the d4 so I occasionally use others) but I don’t do prerolls beforehand or anything like that, more on the Travis side.
23. Door troubles or yelling ‘nein’?
NEIN
#Thank you for the ask!#this was fun sorry it took me literally forever to do this#tumblr hates me awnsering asks for some reason#also I am DMing for my friends soon pray for me#askadork#ask#critical role spoilers#critical role

DC FanDome: Schedule, Date, Time, and How to Watch
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Fans hoping for major DC news in lieu of an actual San Diego Comic-Con are definitely going to get just that at DC FanDome, a digital event designed to be watched at home like a real con.
Originally set up as one epic night of panels and reveals, DC announced that it will be splitting FanDome into two separate and distinct events: Hall of Heroes, which will be held in late August, and WatchVerse in mid-September.
The August date still holds most of the big-ticket items. It’s billed by DC as “an epic world designed personally by Jim Lee featuring special programming, panels and exclusive reveals from a wide variety of films, TV series, games, comics and more.” Functionally, it’s the Hall H of FanDome.
This DC FanDome trailer gives fans a good glimpse at what they can expect from the event:
Here’s everything else you need to know about DC FanDome:
DC FanDome Date and Time
The first DC FanDome event, Hall of Heroes, kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 1 pm ET. Sign up to watch here!
DC FanDome Schedule
Here’s a rundown of all the panels happening during DC FanDome: Hall of Heroes. The panel descriptions below are courtesy of DC. All times are ET:
1:00 PM – Wonder Woman 1984 Panel
“Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal, and director/co-writer/producer Patty Jenkins join forces with Brazilian hosts Érico Borgo and Aline Diniz to celebrate the fans in a big way. They will answer questions from fans from all over the world, talk fan art and cosplay, and reveal an all-new sneak peek at the upcoming film — plus a few more surprises!”
1:25 PM – WB Games Montreal Announcement
“Gamers! You won’t want to miss this first look at an exciting new game, and Q&A with its developers.”
1:45 PM – The Sandman Universe: Enter the Dreaming Panel
“Neil Gaiman, Dirk Maggs, G. Willow Wilson and Michael Sheen discuss the legacy of The Sandman comic book series and how it has been expanded with new stories, adapted into new mediums, and enthralled audiences around the world.”
2:15 PM – Multiverse 101 Panel
“Get schooled in this engaging refresher course on the creation of the Multiverse with DC Chief Creative Officer/Publisher Jim Lee, Warner Bros. Pictures President of DC-Based Film Production Walter Hamada, and Berlanti Productions founder/DCTV mega-producer Greg Berlanti.”
2:40 PM – Flash Movie Panel
“This 101-style conversation with The Flash filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, star Ezra Miller and screenwriter Christina Hodson will give fans a speedy rundown on the first-ever Flash feature film.”
2:50 PM – Beyond Batman Short
“The Batman of Swinging Sixties culture clashes with the Batman of the far-flung future when Batman Beyond and his mentor, Old Bruce Wayne, intercept a broadcast of the 1966 Batman TV show!”
2:55 PM – The Suicide Squad Panel
“What else would you expect from The Suicide Squad but the ultimate elimination game? First up, writer/director James Gunn takes on fan questions, then brings out Task Force X for a fast-paced, no-holds-barred Squad Showdown that tests every team member’s Squad knowledge — and survival skills!”
3:40 PM – BAWSE Females of Color within the DCU Panel
“What’s a BAWSE? Find out here as some of the hottest actresses across DC television and film sit down with celebrity DJ D-Nice and Grammy-winning singer/actress Estelle to discuss how they use their confidence and vulnerability to navigate their careers in Hollywood. Panelists include Meagan Good (SHAZAM!), Javicia Leslie (Batwoman), Candice Patton (The Flash), Tala Ashe (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), Nafessa Williams and Chantal Thuy (Black Lightning), and Anna Diop and Damaris Lewis (Titans). Catch the entire full-length conversation at McDuffie’s Dakota in the DC WatchVerse.”
4:00 PM – Legacy of the Bat Panel
“Calling all Batman fans! Don’t miss this discussion on the wide scope of the Batman universe, including the Batman Family of characters. Key talent from comics, TV, and games will provide insight into the world of Caped Crusader.”
4:30 PM – Joker: Put on a Happy Face

4:45 PM – Surprise DC Comics Panel
TBA
5:10 PM – I’m Batman: The Voices Behind the Cowl Panel
“Everyone has their favorite Batman. But for audiences around the world, their favorite Batman has a local sound. It’s time to meet the voices behind the cowl. Hear what it’s like to be one of the many global vocal actors portraying the Dark Knight when the Super Dubbers, who lend their talents to the Caped Crusader on screens big and small all over the world, come together for the first time ever.”

Today I’ve got a bit more of a close up look on CR Studios. This one is first because it’s one of the sections I’ve developed the most, and also I think it probably merits a bit more explanation than some of the others. For people who have seen the show, Whitestone, Emon, Zedash and such are probably fairly self-explanatory, but CR Studios is sort of an original creation, so I want to spotlight it a bit.
This land is a bit of an amalgam of several things. One of the initial inspirations was the original Campaign 2 intro, featuring all the great retro 80’s vibes. I knew right off the bat I wanted to have a restaurant inside of that house, with classic American foods and 80s music and decorations. I also felt very strongly about featuring the production side of the show, not just the story. Those two ideas combined together to create this area based off of the “studio park” that was themed to LA in the 80s. The street is lined with palm trees, there are tall apartment buildings and lots of glass block and neon colors (it is the 80s after all). There are a couple of attractions here, and several shops that sell general Critrole merchandise and gaming supplies.
Within the first brainstorming, I had the idea for an attraction called Write Critical Role. I see it as a comedy/improv show where the guests have to help our favorite cabbage-scented Brian W. Foster (as everyone knows, the mastermind behind the show) and a team of interns finish the next episode’s “script” so they can get it out to the cast. There would be a lot of audience participation and just general hijinks. This is the kind of thing that could possibly be updated every so often to reflect recent plot developments, or perhaps might just focus on certain scenes (eg: We need Caleb and Beau’s middle of the night heart to heart, or Sam’s next DnD Beyond ad) that could make sense anywhere. The show would exit into a store called “the writer’s room” which is full of stuff from the Talks Machina set, random stuff that Brian has hoarded, and the mattress of newspapers and discarded scripts he sleeps on.
This also connects to the larger “studio complex” which is what it might look like if Critical Role was able to build a whole campus for their productions. There is a Studio Tour walkthrough attraction, where guests are able to see the sets for all the shows, green rooms, storage spaces, offices, and possibly several exhibits of fanart and/or cosplay displays. Alternatively, this could be a ride through some kind of “studio chaos” like a frantic search for Matt as the show is about to go live. Maybe even both! This sub-area is fairly new to my plan, so I welcome suggestions. Connected to this is a small food court with some Californian foods, or things the cast particularly likes, such as tacos, sushi, non-brand-name donuts, and working taps in the Pub set. In the middle of all these buildings is a sort of green area where there could be streetsmosphere performances or just a place to rest.
The other two attractions are a CR Short Films theater that could showcase clips from existing shows, or new shorts created specifically for the park. The outside of the building is themed like an art deco theater, complete with glowing neon strips. Lastly the Battle Royale stage show, which is housed in a large colliseum-like structure. I knew I wanted a Battle Royale show from the beginning, but I decided to put it in this area of the park rather than one of the other cities because I feel like it takes place, in a way, outside of the story. They’re almost more about the gameplay itself and that kind of competitive fun, plus I think the large stadium would be a nice feature to be visible from a distance.
That’s most everything I’ve got for this post. Thanks for all the support so far! And just as a disclaimer, starting with the next section there will be some mild spoilers for parts of both Campaign 1 and Campaign 2. I’ll detail which episodes specifically and put everything that might be spoilery under a break, but I wanted to give a heads up. Thanks!

Review: In ‘Shadows,’ on FX, Laid-Back Vampires Return for Another Bite
By James Poniewozik March 26, 2019
A key difference between movies and TV series is their relation to mortality. When a movie becomes a TV series, the creators must adapt a finite story into one that can unfold indefinitely. A movie, as a rule, must complete a world; a series must keep building one. A movie must end (at least until the sequel); a TV series must proceed as if it might never die.
“What We Do in the Shadows,” beginning Wednesday on FX, has an advantage on that last front, and not just because its characters, a gang of eccentric vampire housemates, are already dead. The 2015 movie, from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, already played like a tight, brief season of TV, in the most pleasurable way.
The mockumentary, about a group of bloodsucking ancients navigating modern life in Wellington, New Zealand, was driven more by character than plot, much like a hangout sitcom. Like Clement’s “Flight of the Conchords,” it had a deadpan — rather, undeadpan — sensibility and a penchant for characters who were less cool than they imagined themselves.
The FX version recasts and relocates to America while retaining the core premise. Staten Island, apparently the New Zealand of the tristate area, is now home base for Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak), a medieval Ottoman warrior; Laszlo (Matt Berry), a Romantic-era English dandy; and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Laszlo’s rapacious old flame and now hunting partner with benefits. (Clement and Waititi, who co-starred in the film, each write and direct several episodes.)
Having undead roommates, it turns out, is just like having mortal ones, except that you have all eternity to get on one another’s nerves. Early in the premiere, the anxious, fussy Nandor holds a meeting to deal with housekeeping issues, such as the problem of people leaving their guests sitting around half-drunk. (In this case, it means that they’ve been half-drunk.)
Rounding out the house is Colin (Mark Proksch), an “energy vampire” who drains people’s life forces rather than their blood, usually by drawing his officemates into long, boring conversations. So far, in the four episodes provided for review, it’s one of the less-successful additions to the story, a one-joke premise that “Saturday Night Live” might have done as an overlong sketch.
The series focuses more than the film did on the “familiars”: humans who serve as personal assistants to vamps in hopes of someday getting the neck-bite of immortality. Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), an earnest nerd, is tasked with procuring the group virgins (“It’s their favorite food!”), whom he sources locally by finding a college medieval LARP (live-action role-playing) group. One member, Jenna (Beanie Feldstein), takes the vampires to be LARPers themselves.
Which, in a sense, they are. A bit like the Chechen mobsters in HBO’s “Barry,” the vamps of “Shadows” seem to be cosplaying themselves, comically performing a received, pop-culture idea of scary-sexiness. (Nandor prepares himself for a special occasion by putting on body glitter, “like ‘Twilight’!”)
In reality, they’re underachievers, more bark than bite. (There is some bite, though, the episodes of violence played for over-the-top, blood-spritzing slapstick effect.) When an ancient overlord shows up to find out why the Staten Island vampires haven’t yet conquered the new world, it provides the (presumably) ongoing story line for the series.
As in the film version, the action is captured by a documentary film crew, though the device recedes more into the background (as it did in long-running mockumentary series like “Modern Family” and “Parks and Recreation”).
But the series retains the screwball-vérité look established in the film by Clement and Waititi, combining naturalistic shaky-cam with exaggerated levitation effects. In an age of inkily-lit cable dramas, this is the rare series where the nighttime palette actually makes sense.
The big question early on is whether most of the best jokes have already been told. The vampires’ feud with an aggro band of werewolves played out better in the film, which focused on the lycanthropes’ embarrassed efforts to control their transformations. But the show comes together in the fourth episode, in which the housemates trek to a nightclub in Manhattan — “Manhatta” in Laszlo’s archaic tongue — to impress a sleazy downtown vampire (Nick Kroll).
If “Shadows” doesn’t seem entirely necessary, it’s perfectly fun. Its pleasures are in the goofy details, like the way Laszlo exclaims “Bat!” as he transforms into one, or the vampire nightclub in which the equivalent of bottle service is waiters carrying a human body on a bed of ice.
I’m still not sure whether there’s a long run of TV in this resurrected premise. But there seem to be some tasty drops left before it’s entirely sucked dry.
