After the end of the original series (s15) Matt retired from the FBI to be a full-time stay-at-home dad. He still volunteers with vets and helps them get adjusted to civilian life.

Matt modeled to help pay for college but never told anyone at the FBI until Mae and Penelope discovered his secret and never let him live it down.

Matt and Penelope are good friends and she loves hanging out with the Simmons family. She always volunteers to babysit when she knows Matt and Kristy need a date night.

Matt is the biggest Garvez shipper and loves going home to tell with Kristy about how oblivious Penelope is and how lovesick Luke is.

Matt Simmons (my beloved!) is such an underrated character. I thought he was marvellous and an incredible addition to late season CM. Since you're my first trick or treater, I'll give you a head canon and a pic!

I HC Matt as being bisexual and also kind of a freak in the sheets, if you know what I mean ;) I mean, think about it! Kristy has had FIVE kids and her husband is out of town on cases about 90% of the time. Anyone who has tried to have kids knows that the actual window where someone can get pregnant is barely two days a MONTH.

Matt and Kristy managed to have five kids -- I mean, they gotta have a great sex life for that to happen with his time restraints. Nothing but respect for this man.

I like to think big hero 6 exists in the criminal minds universe. Matt got to voice Tadashi bc of his work at the FBI. When his kids saw the movie, they were in tears and would let their dad go to work because they were afraid that he'd die in a fire. It was a very stressful time for him and kristy but on the bright side, imagine when Spencer meets Matt

i love tara lewis a LOT (pretty lady hngh) but we cant ignore the fact that the cm writers sed her and matt simmons as the perfect examples of tokenism

bringing in two poc as new characters and refusing to flesh out their personalities or give them proper growth or lives

for simmons u can make the argument he was barely there. but lewis was in 4 seaons as a main character and side character linda fucking barnes was favored over her.

this is the bigger reason why people have trouble falling in love with them the way they did the “core 7” or like, alex blake. the show writers tried to flesh out white characters, but poc were not afforded the same justice.

these two characters were written off by the show before the fans.

Matt Simmons has an open floor plan. Excluding bedrooms and bathrooms which are all along a wall. There are no walls inside the entire house. He has too many kids for walls.

Reid on the other hand has a closed floor plan where every single room, hallway and area of his house is closed with a door. You enter the house, there’s a 8x8 square and three doors for each wall.

Prentiss has one of those chaotic floor plans that has doors that open to reveal walls, and hallways and staircases that go no where. She invites the team over once and everyone got lost immediately.

AAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! i made a post way back when i hadn’t even made this sideblog yet about my hcs for the team BUT i’ve been thinking some thoughts so here are the new ones!!

okay. i’ve already said this. but. trans lesbian emily prentiss. this is my favorite fucking thing ever, no i do not accept constructive criticism.

jj is a bisexual nonbinary woman, she’s always been unsure of her sexuality (not sure how to define her attraction to women vs not sure if she actually was attracted to men) and it wasn’t until recently that she finally came to terms with her bisexuality after lots of support + research from the team. she’s also never quite felt comfortable with herself-- she just figured it was from first being stuck in the place of her trauma for multiple years and then working in an environment surrounded by horror for most her life, but even as she gets older she still doesn’t understand her uneasiness at being addressed as ma’am, mrs, etc. she spends some time with reid and discovers the word nonbinary and is like oh! oh. now that she’s more aware of her gender identity, she doesn’t mind being referred to with feminine addressment/characteristics although it’s not her exact preference.

tara uses queer! her gender’s a bit all over the place, and she sometimes might use graysexual when describing her attraction (or lack thereof), but most of the time she sticks to queer.

spencer is bisexual and nonbinary, which is a super common hc i’ve seen in the fandom :D i’m glad we all agree on that hehe his relationship with gender is p relaxed, has mostly androgyne aspects

morgan is bisexual and cis man, a lot of internalized homophobia/biphobia he manages to ultimately overcome

He cried at the birth of all 5 of his children

He always wanted to be a dad and husband but mostly a dad

When he was a new dad one night Jake wouldn't stop crying Matt started singing and Jake stopped crying so he sang to all of them as babies

This one comes from Danny himself and adds to the last one: Matt sings to the kids in Korean and tries his best to share his culture with his family

The Simmons did get to take a trip to South Korea to meet In-sook, Matt's grandma and they got to learn more about their culture

Matt loves having tea parties with the twins he adores his girls and let's them give him a make over every time

While he prefers everyone off screens and spending quality time, he does occasionally play video games with the boys - and later the girls when they get a little older

The Simmons have family game nights when they can. Tried making it a weekly thing after the IRT dissolved but had to make it when they could after Matt joined the BAU

After Kristy went back to work after having Rose, Matt fell asleep on the couch without the baby in his arms and woke up with her panicked, but realized Jake and David stepped up as older brothers and took over to give him a break

My personal HC for CME is after having Rose and then the events of Ghost, Matt retired from the FBI and became a full time stay at home dad writing his Simmons stories

He is 100% the dad that when Chloe and Lily become teens and start dating he has told them "do these boys know that I have a gun?"

When Jake started doing sports, Matt did his best to be at every game, even if Kristy had to FaceTime him in if he was away on a case

Rose being a kid raised in the pandemic means she is a total daddy's girl and was attached to him at the hip and she threw a fit her first day of school so Matt had to sit in the first day but she inevitably forgot about him and made friends

Despite that scene of him and the kids deciding what to do for dinner, Matt is actually a very good cook and when he cooks it's all hands on deck because he gives the kids all a random job to do so they feel like they helped with dinner

They’re at the beach. With the kids. And the team.

Meaning there’s built in babysitters. Meaning they get some well deserved time to themselves.

They even get to go on a date

They get dressed up (meaning Matt wears a polo with his cargo shorts instead of a t-shirt and Kristy wears one of those flowy maxi dresses)

Matt finds them some weird seafood place on the boardwalk

It looks kind of shady and there’s not many people there while the other restaurants are crawling with people

It’s their favorite kind of place, a diamond in the rough

The food is actually amazing (they don’t understand why it’s not getting much business) and the company is even better

They cherish their alone time and just get some time to be happy without their kids (no matter how much they love them)

Christmas With Matt

Warnings: Fem!reader 

Christmas at the Simmons's household was a very big deal 

You grew up loving Christmas and so did Matt

As soon as Halloween and Thanksgiving passed, the house was in full fledge Christmas mood

and I mean full fledge

The house was decked out from top to bottom 

Matt spent the afternoon putting up lights around the house, Luke stopping by to help him 

You hung snowflakes from the windows 

The banisters on the stairs had garland wrapped around it with ornaments hanging off 

The fireplace had stockings and little figures of Santa and his reindeers sitting on it. 

There was a giant Santa’s sled that you got a few years back that you put on the lawn every year, as well as the reindeers to go with it. 

The kids on the neighbourhood love it

They always come by and take pictures or just sit and hang out there. 

You seen multiple first kisses happen in that very sled

You’d always come out and give the kids cookies if they were playing in your yard

You loved to bake during the holiday season 

Every Christmas Eve, you’d have little packages with cookies and candy for the kids in the neighbourhood

It was a small gesture but you loved doing it 

The kids especially loved it because you convinced Matt to dress up as elf and hand them out 

He swears he won’t do it the next year, but he always does 

He takes in the extras you make for the team, making sure you always pack something extra for Luke to take home to Roxy 

The two of you love going Christmas tree shopping, even if it is a mess. 

It would make more sense for you guys to get an artificial tree, seeing that the two of you were always at work but you never do 

You’d always find one that’s well over 6 feet because you have a high ceiling 

The two of you would decorate it, every year would be a new theme 

Last year was blue and gold, this year would be red, black and gold 

Matt had you sitting on his shoulders so you could put the star on top

The team would have Christmas dinner at your house

The tree would be filled with presents 

Matt would come shopping with you but just hold the bags 

You’d get Rossi some expensive cigars you’ve heard him mention 

Penelope would get a new mug that said “Penelope Garcia, Technical Genius” as well as personalized earrings that had her initials on a keyboard  

Luke would get set of dishes because he dropped the box with his in them when he was moving, as well as a shirt that say “Roxy’s dad” (you thought it was hilarious) 

You always made sure to pick up a new toy for Roxy as well 

JJ and Will would be a household gift, which made sense 

But you’d go all out with gifts for the boys. toys, clothes, games, literally everything 

Spencer would get a new watch with his name engraved in it. It had dark brown leather straps and a silver face, it suited him well 

Tara would get a beautiful necklace

Emily got a new bottle of wine and engraved wine glasses that said “Emily Prentiss, Unit Chief of the BAU” 

After gifts, everyone was chatting 

Matt got down on one knee behind you

You were talking to Penelope, you didn't realize what was going on until she squealed

You turned around to see Matt

You started to cry, you didn't mean too but you did 

“y/n l/n, make me the happiest man and marry me ?” 

Of course you said yes 

Everyone wished you congratulations 

Garica and Tara convinced the two of you to have a practice first dance

Already tipsy, you agreed 

The two of you ended the dance on the floor after you tripped when Matt spun you around 

Rossi convince Luke to spike the eggnog and get you all drunk 

The night would end with everyone drunk, singing Christmas carols 

You’d send them all home in Ubers

You and Matt would sit on the couch cuddling 

The clock chimed at midnight, you turned to each other smiling.

“Merry Christmas Mr. Simmons” 

“Merry Christmas Mrs. Simmons” 

He gave you a kiss. 

You were getting married to the love of your life and it was Christmas, can’t get any better than this.

Nano Masterlist

The wind whipped around him in steady blasts, his shirt and hair in a perpetual whoosh. His hands were steady and his mood was light. He couldn’t help the smirk that turned up his lips or the way his aviators made him feel. Matt had bought the bike on an impulse, but had never regretted it.

The streets were lined with houses coated in fabricated webs interspersed with pumpkins whom stared back as he passed, eyes off center and mouths gaping. The weather was turning, he would have to garage his beloved bike for a few months, this was an annual farewell tour of the neighboring subdivisions and outlying roads and Matt knew he had been putting it off purposely. He could blame work, but it was an inevitability that had run its course.

The engine rumbled against the storm clouds on the horizon, the afternoon disappearing into the haze of gloming. He did one final loop of their block before easing up the drive into the echoing garage. Kristy was waiting for him in the door that led to the house via their mudroom. She loved to watch him ride, bad boy points were always good in her book.
