“You do it.”
“No!” You gasp, shaking your head so fast you feel like your brain is shaking too. “You do it!”
“Your entire job is about people, you do it.” He insists, gently nudging you forward, but you don’t bulge. “Y/N, come on, it’s not that scary!”
“I’m not scared, I just hate talking on the phone! You wouldn’t know what’s that like, since you barely use yours.”
“And now you’re diverging,” He giggles, pushing the phone over the counter to you once again.
It has been almost thirty minutes of this and that is not really how you imagine spending your morning after all that had happened last night. For a moment there, Spencer’s voice fades to the background and all you can focus on are those beautiful, pink lips. Now that you know how they feel– the perfect balance of chapped roughness and natural softness; not now that you know how he tastes, something so naturally Spencer and minty toothpaste; not now that you know how he sounds when he whispers for more, more more. Not now, not ever.
Took you both some time to come down from the absolute high of acting like teenagers. What had started like a sweet, slow kiss, quickly turned into what teenagers would refer to ‘making out’, and suddenly you two were a little hurricane of hands, lips, and tangles bodies trying to make it to the room. The feeling of his hands on your waist, tugging you closer, pushing you down– “Y/N?”
Your cheeks explode in a fiery red shade when you realise he’s caught you daydreaming.
Again.
“Yeah? Shaking your head slightly, look down at the phone being pushed between you two.
“Are you going to call her?”
To be fair, you haven’t really explained everything to him considering how… distracted… you were last night. And then this morning. And even now, mind going not so far away from the kitchen to the room, where absolutely nothing had happened last night. Absolutely. Nothing. Frustration settled after a while, a thrumming hum in the back of your head that never really let you fall asleep. It was only natural that after so long craving this, you had been excited at the thought of finally letting it happen, of allowing yourself to enjoy a moment that had meant as much in your dreams as it did in real life… but then you two made it to the bed. And you laid down. And suddenly, the underlying need behind every push and pull of his perfect lips against yours started to fade, and his hands that explored your body oh so eagerly started to slow down, and before you could say anything, he was backtracking to forehead kisses and getting up to brush his teeth.
Like it had been just another day.
Just another kiss.
“I don’t want to,” You whisper back, eyes wide in a vulnerable state that has nothing to do with Abigail or the fact that you are about to hire her to take care of your store.
This is not even about last night.
This is about this morning.
This is about the fact that when you woke up, he wasn’t there. His side of the bed was tussled, and the pillows were thrown around, but Spencer was missing. For a moment, your heart sinks. You scramble around the bed, feeling out his side, searching for something, anything, that would give into your dwindling hope of last night not having been a dream, because god knows how many dreams you’ve had of him. But then you hear it, the sound of the shower running and the light humming of a man who has not a single musical bone in his body, and you let out a breath you didn’t even know you were holding.
Then it downs on you. It wasn’t a dream. Spencer kissed you last night, that’s a fact. And now he’s about to come out of the bathroom and you refuse to let the first thing he sees, on such a special morning, be this messy hair, panicked face version of yourself. The way you roll out of bed, rushed to the point of tripping on the blankets and falling on your knees with a hiss, is enough to have you laughing at yourself. Your cheeks blush when you think of facing him so early in the day and despite the excitement of it all, you are nervous. What will he say? What will he do?
Making breakfast seems like a great way to ease your overthinking mind of any incoming anxieties, and it’s a simple matter of action and reaction.
Action, breaking the eggs over the hot pan. Reaction, frying some eggs. Action, putting the bread in the toaster. Reaction, getting some toast to eat with your eggs. Action–
“Good morning.” Action, Spencer comes out of the shower.
“Good morning,” You call back, looking down at the pan with such an obsessions you barely notice him stopping behind you.
You do notice his hands landing on your waist, though, and when he turns you around, you can smell the fresh scent of his minty soap he loves so much. His smile calms you a little, and he leans forward, coming down, down, down… until his lips touch your forehead. “Slept well?” He mumbles, reaching behind you for a toast and then walking away to grab his bag from wherever he hid it. Blinking, you can’t even answer his question. Is he fucking teasing you or is he serious?
Safe to say, you don’t really speak up then nor later, and that’s how you two end up where you are, sitting in front of each other in a stupid battle over who calls who.
“Why don’t you want to call her?”
Eyes cast down, almost in shame, you shrug. “I…” How do you explain it to him without sounding crazy? “I don’t know, Spence. She makes me feel… weird. Like she knows something I don’t.”
“Oh sweetheart,” His nice words can’t hide the smile on his face. “It’s just change. And you’re human, Y/N, which means you naturally don’t like change. But it’s okay, I promise. You already asked Garcia to dig as deep as she could and nothing came up as suspicious. You also refuse to entertain the idea of hiring your second choice because you said, and I quote, ‘he grabbed a book with greasy hands.’ So, this is pretty much the only option you have.”
Great. Instead of a kiss that you crave, you get the dose of reality check you deserve. “Thank you, Spencer,” You grumble, the irony of your words not missing the spot when his smile falters. You grab the phone to dealing the number you’ve been avoiding for so long, but you stop before pressing call. “Fuck.”
“Y/N–“ The magic of last night is gone when his phone rings and you know he has to go.
“Go,” You whisper, patting his shoulder with dejection. At this point, the morning is ruined and, to be very honest, he is partially at fault.
A kiss is not something you would consider casual. You know a lot of people do, and that’s okay; you don’t mind about how other people live their lives. You do, however, care about what Spencer thinks and does, and in your books, kissing you and then ignoring it the next day is simply not acceptable. But then you sit with it for a while, and your brain starts whirring up. Usually, when you open your eyes, the sun is barely up and Spencer’s breathing is regular enough to keep your head going up and down, up and down, up and down. The more you two cuddle, the more you realise you love the sound of his heartbeat– you were yet to see him hurt, but you’ve heard enough stories from past cases that now, whenever you got that little extra confirmation that he is okay, you feel a sense of relief that you can’t really explain. Yet, that morning, when you finally make sense of what the fuck was happening without the your usual warm body next to you, you don’t feel relief. You don’t feel anything, to be very honest, because for a moment, your blood turns cold at the idea that Spencer might have woken up and regretted it all.
“I feel like I shouldn’t,” He frown, cocking his head to the side in that way that makes you think he’s about to tell you something about yourself that you’ve never asked. “Y/N–“ “Go to work, Spencer,” You repeat yourself before pressing ‘call’. The phone in your ear is enough to keep him from trying to chase you. “Abigail? Hi! This is Y/N, from the bookstore… Yes. Yes, and from the uh, from the building. I’m calling with good news– you seem like the perfect person for the position. You– oh, no, no, it’s okay, you don’t have to bring me anything, it’s fine!”
This is the last thing you need– Abigail and her nosy nature. “What’s going on?” Spencer I next to you and his mouth is so close to your ear you shiver a little when he speaks.
“Abigail, please, I’m about to go out and– oh, no, my… Spence is going to work. Thank you for offering to bake a cake but I’ll just se you at work, okay? Alright. Yeah, okay, thank you! I’ll be sending you a follow up email with all the information for next steps. Thank you! Have a good day! Bye!”
“Y/N, did Abigail do something to make you uncomfortable?” His hands on your shoulder that hold you at arms length are starting to annoy you. Now he didn’t even want you close? There is more to it and you know it. Above all, you’re not completely illogical, but your brain is working overtime and your heart is hurting, and now every little thing Spencer does will be an issue.
Fed up with it all, you stomp your feet and walk away. “Go to work, Doctor Reid!” The impetuous way you huff as you turn around and slam the door of his room shut has him gasping, and you can hear if from where you stand, embarrassed by yourself and your ridiculous, childish behaviour. Still, you refuse to go back out there until you’re sure you’ve heard the door closing behind him.
“Fuck me,” You mutter after you sit there in your own silence. The apartment doesn’t feel the same as it used to anymore. It’s not a matter of coming in and watering his plants anymore. You don’t just walk around looking for clues from the scattered books in his apartment anymore. You actually know things now. You know parts of his life that he had to tell you, parts that you didn’t have to guess, and it actually felt good— he was opening up out of his own volition and now you’ve ruined everything. Maybe you got greedy. Maybe you got greedy for his welcoming arms and whispered pet names. Maybe it all felt too good, and, just like Icarus, you might have flown too close to the sun, and now you are falling, wings melted and ruined.
Before you know it, you’re already dialling your mom’s number.
“Mom?” You are sitting on the floor, legs pulled to your chest with a ridiculous pout on your lips, and from the way she laughs on the other side of the line, you think she can hear it.
“Well, look who it is,” She teases. It’s easy to picture her face when she says that. You two have made a dance out of it, this whole loving sarcasm thing, and she always go first. Naturally, you just follow her lead. “My daughter who forgot I exist.”
“Aw,” You smile, shaking your head in amusement. “Is this my mother? The one who knows how pick up the phone and dial my number if she wants to talk to me?”
You two laugh for a while before she speaks again. “I’m serious, sweetheart, I’ve missed you. I haven’t seen your face in a while and… and your dad misses you too, you know?” The slight sniffle on the other side of the line breaks your heart a little.
“I miss him too,” You whisper, voice a bit too soft for her not to notice.
“Y/N, is something wrong? Did something happen?” It’s no surprise your mom panics quickly when it comes to you, specially after everything that happened in New York. “Is it Josh? Did he find you?”
God, how it hurts that she even has to worry about that. “No, no, it’s not Josh, it’s…” You are yet to tell her about Spencer. And not in the context of this entire situation with Cat, but about Spencer as the wonderful human he is. About his quirks and his love for books and his chess addiction and… and the fact that he has your heart in the palm of his hands and you’re scared. You’re so scared. “I met someone.”
Her gasp has your eyes shutting– it’s so nostalgic, that noise of motherly surprise, that you can’t help but bask in it. Growing up, you had always been very close to your mother, enjoying days out together on Sundays and always trusting her to keep your secrets safe from the world. She was your biggest fan, too; supported you on everything you did, cheered from you from the sidelines of every game you wanted to try, helped you convince your dad to let you go to parties you never enjoyed. Never had she unfairly punished you, never had she betrayed your trust, never had she treated you with anything but love and pride. Hiding things from her is hard, possibly one of the hardest things you have ever done, and you hate how easy it’s becoming to deflect her questions and ignore her comments, because truly, all you want to do on days like this, where your heart hurts and your spirits dwindle, is to go to her and cry. Is that too much to ask?
“Tell me about this person,” She immediately shuffles around and you picture her in the same living room you’ve grown up reading book after book. If you have to guess, she has her usual coffee mug next to her, an addiction you blame her for passing onto you, and she’ll throw the old knitted blanket she’s so proud of making over her legs.
“Well, his name is Spencer–“
“Spencer is a good name!” She whispers to herself and you smile.
“It is,” You agree, stretching your legs in front of you and wiggling your toes, glad to be distracted by anything and everything that gets your mind off of last night. “He is a good guy. My favourite customer, actually. That’s uh, that’s how we met.”
“At the store? That is adorable!”
“Yeah, he reads… a lot,” That is the understatement of the century. “He was my first client when I opened up, and we kind of became friends and gotten closer. Then I kind of, uh, started apartment sitting for him, whenever he was away at work and we just–“
“Oh, what’s the apartment like?”
“It’s… beautiful,” You mumble, looking around with a small smile playing on your lips. “The walls are this pretty shade of green and it’s really cozy? Books all around. I like it here.”
“Here?” Oh no. “Wait, are you at his house right now?”
“Yeah,” You mumble, picking the lose threads on the socks you borrowed, one blue and the other purple with polkadots. For the life of you, you couldn’t find matching pairs in his sock drawer. “I’ve been here a lot, lately.”
“Is he out of town?”
“No.” The silence that follows speaks volume, and for the first time ever, you realise that your mom might not be just worried. She scared, too; for the daughter she saw so happy one day and then moving cities the next. “Mom?”
“I– I’m happy for you, sweetie,” Her words are kind, but the edge of hesitation is there. “And you’re not going too fast, right? You said you’ve known him since you opened the store, so that’s a year and something, and–“
The assumption that you are repeating the same mistake you’ve make with Josh annoys you. You’re not the same person you used to be, you’re not like that anymore– needy and blinded by love and all the shinny things it brought you. You’ve come a long way since then, and you know your mother recognises that, you do but… but you’re still embarrassed. Embarrassed about who you were. About who you loved. It’s a bit ridiculous, how whenever one of your parents bring him up, you immediately raise your defences, walls coming up so high you can’t even see over the green field of life that awaits you on the other side.
“Mom,” You wince when your voice comes out a bit too harsh. “Sorry. Mom, I’m fine. We’re… nothing. I’m here because… because a pipe burst in my apartment and he was kind enough to let me stay at his place.”
“Oh! Oh, I’m sorry sweetie, I didn’t mean to– I mean, I’m glad you have someone to help you out when we’re so far away.”
“I wish you guys were here,” You whisper, slowly getting up to move to the living room. You immediately sit down in the armchair, grabbing your blanket and covering yourself. If you couldn’t hug your mom, this would have to do. “You’d love him.”
“Yeah? Is he handsome?”
“So handsome,” You giggle, and it’s an instinct, looking to the side table in search of that familiar frame of Spence and his team at a fancy dinner. You love his smile when he’s happy, so wide and taut that it almost looks like he has too much emotion in proportion to his body. “And he’s so kind, mom. He’s kind, and gentle, and oh so smart. A genius, really.”
“Of course he has to be a genius to keep up with you and the hundreds of books you read in a year,” Her reply is comical when you think about it. The idea of Spencer having trouble keeping up with you, and not the other way around, makes you laugh. “So why do you sound so sad, if he’s such a great guy? He’s treating you good, right?”
“He treats me amazingly, it’s just that… we kissed last night.”
“And it was bad?” Her teasing makes your shoulder relax enough until you are melting onto the chair. “That’s why you’re sad?”
“Mom! No!” Cringing, you hug the throw pillow closer. “It was great. Amazing, even! It’s just that it was our first kiss and then this morning he just… didn’t do it again.”
“Oooohhh, I see what’s going on,” She chuckles. “You expected him to talk about this and he didn’t, did he?”
“How do you know?”
“Because you dad was the same way–“
“Oh gross, no, no, no!” You refuse to fall onto this freudian trap. “I’m not dating my dad!”
“Wait, so you guys are dating? Is this you telling me you have a boyfriend?!”
“No!” Groaning, you know you’re between a rock and a hard place. There is no escape anymore, and you have to come clean. “I don’t know! We kissed, but then he didn’t talk about it this morning and he just left like nothing happened, and and– and yesterday, he didn’t even say he likes me! I’m too old to be on this whole will-they-won’t-they thing, mom! I need verbal confirmation!”
“Well, have you asked him? Or told him how you feel? Or tried to start a conversation?”
Squinting at the phone, you huff, incredulous at her insinuation. Her correct insinuation. “Mother! Whose side are you on?”
“Always yours,” Your mother laughs. “Which is why I’m saying talk to him. If he won’t start the conversation, do it yourself. I raised an independent young woman, and this is the perfect time to prove it.”
You wait a second before sighing. “I’m scared.”
“Of what, sweetie?”
“Of everything. Of what happened before. Of it happening again.”
“Y/N,” Your mother say and suddenly you think you’re about to get scolded through the phone. “You can’t be afraid of your future because of one mistake you made in the past, sweetheart. I– I’m sorry we didn’t notice. I’m your mother, I should’ve noticed, I should’ve said something, and I’m never going to make that mistake ever again. So I’m saying something now. You haven’t sounded this excited about pretty much anything in a while. You… You sound like how you used to be. But better.”
“Mom,” There is no one to witness the way your lower lip trembles at her words. Back then, you thought you were doing a good job keeping your parents safe from it all– you thought you were good at hiding the tiredness with makeup and the miserable tone of your voice with sweet high pitched laughter. None of your parents ever talked about what was happening, either. They didn’t ask questions like how your mom does now; they didn’t see past the beautiful necklaces, the pretty dresses, and the important parties. They were blinded, much like you were, with the fake promises of a happiness that never came. And now here you are, scared out of your mind to jump into this again, and yet, everything fades away when your mom guarantees you she’ll never let this happen again. As grown as you are, nothing reassures you more than your mom– your biggest fan and your biggest protector.
“I’m scared too,” She whispers, like she’s telling you her biggest secret. “I’m scared my baby will hurt again and I won’t be there to help. I’m scared I’ll never be able to visit. I’m scared about a lot of things when it comes to you, sweetie. But I prefer to focus on the silver linings.”
Ah. So that’s where you get if from. “And what are the silver linings here?”
“You being you,” It’s as simple as that for her. “And that’s all I really want.”
For about an hour, you two stay on the phone, chitchatting about the randomise things. It’s no secret that you miss New York– the bustle of people, the endless lights, the pollution and its grey hue in the air. God, you miss it a lot, but what you miss the most is the ease of everything. Moving around is quick, whatever you need you just need to turn the corner and a deli will surely have it, and, above all, whenever you want to see your mom and dad, all you have to do is take the express from the Upper east side down to Midtown and you’re there. You’re at the same small apartment you grew up in, the same brick walls, the same loud neighbours, hell, even your room still looked the same as you left it! But that’s not what you need right now, even though you would love to see your old room with such new eyes… what you need is that feeling of warmth spreading through your chest when it dawns on you that you are home.
“Mom, I have to go,” You finally say. “But let’s talk more often, okay? I miss you and dad a lot.”
“We miss you too, sweetie. I love you.”
“Love you too,” Hanging up the phone is harder than you expected it to be, but you don’t have a lot of time to suffer in silence.
Spencer is a man who naturally avoids all forms of technology. He is not the biggest fan of computers and cellphones, and whenever he texts you or calls you, you feel like you’re winning in life. You’re the exception to his firm, firm rule. But for work purposes, he had explained, he had to be reachable at all hours, meaning Spencer has something you haven’t see in ages– a landline phone. When it starts ringing, that nostalgic loud, shriek of a ring that never fails to make you feel like you’re about to have a heart attack.
Instinctually, you reach for it as if you are the one expecting a call. It would be so easy to just pick up the phone and say Dr. Reid’s residence, how may I help you? Yet, you don’t. You stop yourself just as the tips of your fingers touch the phone and you pull back. This is exactly what happened last time– a box for him and the consequences ending up being yours to face. Since then, you’d like to think you’ve grown smarter, and so you let it go to voicemail.
“Hello, Dr. Reid, this is Nurse Kenny from Bennington Sanitarium. I’m calling about your mother.”
Somehow, this still feels like facing the consequences for something you didn’t do.
—————————————
In your defence, you did try calling Penelope before panicking. You called her, you called Spencer, you even called the BAU hotline in a feverish desperation to reach your boy wonder. All the hurt from that morning, all the pain and the insecurities immediately fly out the window as soon as the nurse hangs up with a final call me when you can.
“Fucking hell,” You push your way through the crowd trying to make out of the subway station, everyone rushing through the steps to finally be set free in the loud streets of Washington, and if it was any other day, you might have taken the time to enjoy it. The sun is high, the air is cold, and the smell of coffee reaches you almost instantly.
But there is not time to be happy when all you can think about is Spencer– his face crumpling up in that way it does whenever it goes uncharacteristically serious, his brows furrowed in worry, his hands frozen in place like the rest of his body. It kills you being the deliverer of bad news. It’s something you have always tried to avoid, ever since you were a tiny little girl and you had to tell your friends that no, you didn’t like My Little Ponies and then later on that also no, you didn’t want to go to that party. The disappointment in their faces always makes you crumble, give in, give up, anything to see them smile again.
This time around, you can’t do that. You can’t give up, or tell him something he wants to listen to instead. This has to do with his family, and you don’t know anything about his family– so you know they mean a lot to him. Oddly enough, it’s one of his little weird habits that you find the most endearing; for someone that talks a lot, when it comes to the people he loves, Spencer doesn’t talk at all. Maybe this is the price to pay to work at the BAU… when the most despicable and inhumane people in the world know his name, he has to do everything in his power to not let them find out any other.
“Ma’am, where do you think you are going?!” The security guard approaching you is, to say the least, terrifying. You forget that you have to sign up, so uses to walking in with Officer Kaper and his badge, except this time around, you didn’t have time to call him. You did everything Spencer told you not to do, and he will lecture you on it later, you just know he will, though you don’t really care about it, as long as he talks to you after this, you don’t care about what words come out of his mouth.
Because sure, it was an accident– listening to the nurse’s message was an accident– but you still did it. There is no hiding it, you did it and my god, you feel terrible about it. Feels like something akin to looking through his phone while he is in the shower, close to searching through his letters at home, similar to reading through the annotations in his books. This is private. It wasn’t enough to be living at his apartment? Sleeping in his bed, stealing his clothes? You also had to go ahead and listen to his private messages? “I’m here to see Dr. Spencer Reid,” You say, lower lip trembling at the thought of a possible confrontation with this man. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, but it’s urgent, I need to see him, I need to talk to Spence, he’s not picking up his phone and–“
“Do you have a form of identification? You have to sign in,” When he takes a step closer, you immediately shrink back, shoulders hunching forward in a tense attempt to cover yourself from his eyes.
“Of course, yes, I’ll… sign in, but can you– I’m so sorry, but can you call Penelope Garcia? She is the BAU’s tech analyst, I think. She has a lot of computers and–“
“Get in line.”
It’s an order more than a request, and you consider telling him to fuck off. Your nerves are high and you feel a sense of urgency that you have only felt one time before in your entire life– and that was when you moved to D.C. The thing no one tells you about signing in into the FBI is that is practically impossible. People like to think that all you need is a government issued ID, and technically, they are right– there is nothing else you can provide them other than you driver’s license, but the hoops they have to go through to grant you access add another ten minutes or so onto the wait that is already killing you.
Until the clerk says, “Here you go, ma’am,” And gives you your visitor’s pass like it’s nothing.
Like it doesn’t hold the weight of the world for you then, as you shove it into that stupid guard’s face and runs to the far left end of the hallway. At this point, you’ve been at the building enough times to know how to get upstairs, but despite the faint familiarity of it all, you continue to feel displaced and singled out whenever those beige walls surround you. Your oversized cream sweater is like a beacon of light in such a dim office, but it serves its purpose to keep you warm against the powerful air conditioner in there. How Spencer gets anything done under those circumstances, you don’t know, but the shivers travelling up and down your arms are enough to keep you alert and on the look out for the most likely presence to see– your favourite bright pink, bleached blonde geek.
“Excuse me, can I help you?” He’s wearing a suit, much like the ones Agent Hotchner wears and you have to hold back tears. It’s all very intimidating, knowing that at any point one of these people could find you suspicious and start asking you questions.
“Uh, y-yeah, I guess you can,” Clearing your throat, your hand squeeze the shoulder of your bag tighter, and when his eyes move to look at the slight movement, you know he’s a part of the BAU. You know he’s reading you like Spence does. “I need to find Dr. Spencer Reid,” Saying his full name still feels odd to you. “Could you maybe tell me where he is?”
“Oh? Reid?” This expression you know– surprise. “Are you his girlfriend or something?”
“His girlfr– I uh– I mean, I–“ It takes a moment for you to realise that if you say no, then you have to explain to this stranger what you really are to Dr. Reid, and that is a can of worms you rather not open right now, so instead of being honest like you always try to be, you blush and nod. “I uh, yeah. I am.”
“Oh wow!” His genuine shock to the news ticks you off a little. It’s not all that crazy that Spencer would have a girlfriend, considering his charming awkwardness and his bright, beautiful smile. “He never mentioned a girlfriend before, I didn’t–“
“Is he here or not?!” You kind of shriek, widening your eyes in hopes to make him pity you enough to move on with this a bit faster.
“No, he isn’t. I think his team just left for the tarmac, they got a case in this morning and–“
His voice fades to the background easily, your anxiety peaking through with that annoying ringing in your ear. Spencer left to another state and didn’t call you. Logically, you know that his job and his feelings for you, however good or bad they might be, are not connected. Logically, it is easy to make that distinction. However, you are not a logical person all the time. You are not a genius like he is, and sometimes, you let your heart lead; you let your emotions take over like a tsunami inside of you, crashing and crashing and crashing, until you are nothing but a crumble of what you once was.
You are ready, too. Ready to give up and delay the inevitable until the nurse can reach him directly, until you’re not the one having to panic, until he can deal with this personally. Consider it an addictive habit of a you of many moons ago, a Y/N who let things go to protect herself and avoid unnecessary confrontation. Confronting Josh was never the best option, so you had to come up with strategies. Plans, schemes, lies. You hate that you’ve become good at those, hate that all the work you’ve done to leave those behind is now at risk, but something deep inside of you can’t let this go.
Something that you know very well is the need to make Spencer proud. The need to be there for him after all the times he was there for you. It’s your time to be the hero.
“Call Hotchner.”
There is a harshness in your voice that is very much planted there. The same goes for the twitch of your brows, the bite to the inside of your cheek, the averting gaze to the floor. It’s time to tell the story the profiler wants to read, and you double down when you let out an exasperated sigh, pushing your disheveled hair back. “I need you to call Hotchner and get Spencer back here right now.”
You shouldn’t want to laugh with how he fumbles with his phone, quickly dealing the boss’ number, but all amusement is gone when he mumbles something about an Spencer’s girlfriend and passes the phone to you. “He wants to talk to you.”
“Oh god… hello?” You say, voice wobbling a little.
“Miss Y/L/N?” In the background, you can hear some chatter and nothing else. Are they in the jet already? Have you failed? “Is everything alright? Why are you in the office?”
“I am truly sorry, sir,” You gulp down, glancing at the man in a silent request for some privacy. “But I need to speak to Spencer. He is not answering his phone and it’s an emergency. Penelope wasn’t answering either, so I thought I could come find her, but SSA Greenberg asked me if I needed help and–“
“Is that why you told him you were Spencer’s girlfriend?”
“Family emergency trumps everything,” You explain, the heavy weight of you guilt settling in. For some reason, you think you got Spencer in trouble.
“Miss Y/L/N, is this about your case? We explained that we would have cases alongside–“
“Sir, it’s his mother. I don’t know the details, but there was a call and they asked him to call them back as soon as possible.”
The eery silence that follows has you holding your breath. You are not sure how much his team knows about the intricacies of his personal life, but they surely know more than you do, considering the immediate rustle you hear on the other side of the line.
“We’ve just arrived at the tarmac. I’m sending send Reid and Garcia back to help us from there,” Agent Hotchner says, voice dripping with authority. “Wait for him there. Tell Officer Kaper he will be relived as soon as Reid arrives.”
“Office Kaper is… not here.”
“…We will discuss this later. They should be arriving in twenty.”
“Okay. Okay, good,” You breathe out loudly. “Thank you, sir.”
Once the call ends, once you give SSA Greenberg his phone back and evade all the questions he has about you and Spencer, once you push down the wave of relief that almost makes you fall to the ground… you make your way to Penelope’s office. You need credentials to walk into her lair, it’s not as simple as just opening a door– she is the gatekeeper of all things confidential, and you know not all people are authorised to walk in. The fact that this is the same woman who has invited you over for wine night and got so drunk she couldn’t stop talking about the one time she walked in on Morgan showering is actually insane. The Penelope you know can’t keep a secret for her life, but then again, this is not Penelope’s office. This is Garcia’s lair, and you need to remember that these are fundamentally two different people. Just like Spence and Dr. Reid. JJ and Jennifer. Prentiss and Emily. All of them had managed a level of separation that seemed practically impossible to you, leaving work outside of their homes in a perfectly packed box by the door. It makes you wonder, though, if when he walks out the door to go to the office, he leaves you behind in a box inside.
Compartmentalising is not something you did well. You tried, back when you first arrived in Washington, at the recommendation of your therapist, but you seemed to struggle more than normal. At your core, you believe in honesty, in transparency, and despite everything you’ve been through, you never gave up on yourself, on your core self, not the self you’ve created to appease Josh. Though you did forget about her, for a while. Distracted by your new life, you missed your old self like you miss old high school friends; remembering the good old times but still doing nothing to reach out.
Just like you told your mom, you’re scared it will happen again. That you’ll lose yourself in the beautiful world of Spencer Reid and lose sight of what matters– yourself. You might have learned this way later in life than you should have, but a relationship is a two way road and now you know that. Now, you want to know that, you want Spencer to show you that. There is a kind of romance in how he leaves books for you to read next to the armchair, a certain indication that he knows what you like. A type of care in how he buys the shampoo and conditioner you mentioned you liked one time almost eight months ago. This is where you are trying to meet him at, ordering the rare books he’s so desperate after through your unique contacts. Making him breakfast before work. Unfolding the corners of his books. Even though you express yourself better with words than actions, you don’t miss the way his eyes sparkle a little extra whenever he sees his coffee mug filled up for him first thing in the morning or how he always pretends to be caught off guard when you bring him a surprise book from the store. Spencer can read you like he has been born to do so, and yet, he still played along. For you, he’d always play along.
Which is why, when they found you sitting on the floor next to Garcia’s office, he plays along. “Are you more comfortable there than sitting on my desk?”
His casual tone shocks you a little bit. Scrambling to your feet, you meet him and Penelope halfway. “Spence!” You gasp, hands stretching out to touch him, feel him, ground him, anything. You just need to make sure he is paying attention, the hands on his biceps squeezing it slightly. “Spence, you need to call your mom! Something happened, and I tried calling you guys but you weren’t picking up, so I came here to tell you that you need to call her, you–“
“Y/N,” Spence whispers in that way that makes your heart speeds up. His eyes are stuck to yours, shinning with something you’ve seen before, something you’ve seen last night. “Y/N, my mom is okay. Hotch told me to call her as soon as he sent us back, she’s okay, everything’s been handled. Are you okay? Sweetheart, you’re sweating…”
Garcia’s gasp falls onto deaf ears as you and Spencer lose yourself in each other. “I was nervous,” You mumble, trying to pull away and dab at your forehead, but he’s on it. His hands catch you by the elbow and gently bring you closer into what slowly turns into a hug. “I’m so sorry, Spence, I didn’t mean to listen to the message, I swear I didn’t, I was just there and the machine–“
“I know,” He nods his head distractedly and gently wipes you clammy skin with the wrist of his sweater. “I know, Y/N, you don’t have to apologise. Thank you for coming all the way here to look for me just to tell me to call my mom. I truly appreciate it.”
“Of course I would,” There is something building between you two, a tension very familiar to you now that you’ve been watching it pile on for the past couple of weeks.
For Penelope, though, it is certainly news.
“OH MY GOD!”
Snapped out of the trance of those honeyed eyes, you turn to look at your blonde friend with a pale complexion. “Pen, no–“
“OH MY GOD, YOU TWO BONED!”
“What?! No! Absolutely not!” Spencer takes a step back from you like he’s suddenly troubled by thought of being that close to you, and you can’t really hide how your heart breaks a little at that.
“Yeah… apparently absolutely not,” You repeat, coming back down to your harsh reality since the bubble burst.
“What– What just happened?” She utters, but you don’t really give her a chance to develop her line of thought, grabbing the access card from her hand and swiping it through the reader to unlock her door. “Wait, wait, what–“
“I’ll stay here with Pen,” You say without looking back at Spencer. Your job here is done and until Officer Kaper can come pick you up, you know they won’t let you leave the building. “I’ll call Mike for a ride, so don’t worry about me going back alone. I–“
“He’s not here?” Spencer asks, looking around with that adorable confused frown of his. “Wait, Y/N, did you come here by yourself?! Didn’t we talk about–“
“No Spencer, we didn’t! We didn’t talk about a lot of fucking things, and then you left off this morning like you didn’t want to talk about it and, and, and I was panicking, okay?! You didn’t pick up the phone and I’m a big enough girl to take the subway alone!” Your voice certainly raises enough to have people looking at you two, and your cheeks fire up in embarrassment. You are causing a scene at his workplace, and in your opinion, that is unacceptable. Gulping, you look down, tugging Penelope into her sacred space and closing the door behind you. “I’m sorry. That was out of line. I’m really sorry.”
“Y/N, wait–“ But the door closes midway through his sentence and despite him having access to enter, he knows better than to press on a sore spot.
The worst part is that you kind of want him to. And you hate that part of yourself that wants such a reactive behaviour from this peaceful man. Spencer does plenty to show you he cares, even if he does it in his own quiet, subtle way, and that is enough for you. Fuck, that should be enough for you. Yet somehow, nothing seems to shut up that voice in your head telling you that yes, he is enough… but you aren’t. In your overthinking mind, you know that you are too average for Spencer. You’d never be able to keep up with him, with his spectacular brain and his humble attitude. At best, all you offer him are books, some observations here and there, and a warm body to hug at night. At worst, you’re a burden to a man who already carries the entire world on his shoulder.
“You two?!” Penelope’s dramatic gasp is enough to put a pause on your pity party. “Boy genius and you?!” Scoffing, you sit down on the chair she pulled for you. “I know… sounds ridiculous, right? I mean, the man is a genius and I’m… well-read at best.”
“Oh, no. No, no, no, no, we’re not going there,” Barely does she know you’re already there, that you’ve been there this entire morning. “What happened? Last time we talked, it was a crush and nothing else! And now you and boy wonder are ‘sweetheart’ing each other and the forehead kiss was just so adorable and–“
“We kissed.”
The way it comes out to her, unlike how it did with your mom, is a confession rather than a posing issue. It makes your heart race and your sad face lifts for a second, enough to let a giggle escape. This is what friends are for, and you are happy to be living through this again.
“YOU WHAT?”
“Pen, don’t shout!” You whisper, looking at the door like it’s about to slam open at any second. “What if someone hears?” “Would that matter?” She laughed. “You basically told the biggest gossip in the FBI that you are Spencer’s girlfriend.”
“Oh my god,” You groan. Slowly getting comfortable in your chair, you pull your legs up to your chest and let your head fall on your knee dramatically. “He’s going to hate me.”
“Now why on Earth do you think that? I’m pretty sure Spencer has had wet dreams of you calling him your boyfriend.”
“Penelope!” It’s suddenly way too hot in her office, your entire body flushing instead of just your cheeks. “You are wrong, by the way… He had a whole dinner planned, you know? He was turning his apartment into the perfect date when I got back home, and he was cooking and he looked so good, Pen, so, so, so good and we just– I mean, it just happened! And then…”
Penelope is holding onto your every word, perfectly painted lips biting on her fluffy pink pen. “And then…?” Her wiggly brows are a dead giveaway of where her dirty, dirty mind is going.
“And then, just as we get to the room…” You repeat, leaning forward as if you’re about to tell her the biggest secret of your life, only to deflate right after. “He pulls away, kisses me on the forehead, and goes to sleep.”
“No!”
“Oh yeah,” You sigh, body crumbling in a defeated lump of limbs. “And then this morning? Nothing. Nada. Not even a peck on the lips as a ‘good morning’.”
“Oh wow,” She says after a moment. You find some comfort in how she seems as wordless as you were early today. “Oh wow, that’s… wow. It’s impressive, but it’s not shocking. Still, it’s… wow.”
“Not shocking?” You shriek. “It’s very shocking!”
“Oh, sweet pumpkin,” There is so much comfort in the clicks and clacks of her heels when she gets up and comes to give you a hug. Admittedly, Penelope’s hugs are much like one of a mother; warm, caring, and all encompassing. It’s enough to heal wounds you didn’t even know you had, like she is searching your soul the same way she searches the web for evidence– with expertise. “I sometime forget you’ve never known little boy genius when he was, well, little. Our pretty boy over there is not… the best with people.”
“That’s mean, Pen,” You sigh, frowning a little. He might not say much about his feelings, and sure, sometimes Spencer is quite reserved to his own mind in a way that makes you think he assumes people won’t really understand what’s going on up there, but never has Spencer made you feel uncomfortable or bad about yourself. Saying he is ‘not the best with people’ actually upset you because despite a couple of hiccups here and there, Spencer is great with you. He remembers everything you say you like or dislike, he cares about your opinions even though sometimes you feel like you’re just saying the obvious, he is gentle with his touches and hugs. “Spencer is amazing, he’s always so careful with everything and everyone, and he’s so kind, and gentle, and considerate. He’s just too in his head sometimes, but that’s okay! So am I, so is everyone, you know?”
“It’s so cute how you’re quick to jump to his defence,” She teased, shaking you a little by the shoulders. “I know he’s all of that, trust me. I would die for Spencer– no, that’s too easy. I would kill for Spencer, and I actually almost did once! And–“
“Wait, what?!”
“And what I’m trying to say is not that he is a bad person, but that he can get a bit awkward. Try to think from his perspective, Y/N, the kid went to college when he was 14. All those crazy life experiences we had in college, he didn’t. And then he joined the FBI, and time just… got away.”
“Are you trying to tell me Spencer Reid is a virgin?” You gasp, mouth hung open in surprise, because from the little action you two had going last night, you would not have betted on that.
“God, no… or at least I don’t think so, but what I am trying to tell you, my cute bookworm, is that his experience is… limited to a couple of people. Very different people. One of his exes was a famous actress kind of people. They did long distance every single time kind of people.”
Little by little, the engines in your brain start turning, and things start making sense. “He never… had a proper relationship?” Somehow, this makes it feel like all that weight that is sitting on your chest, the pressure of figuring everything out by yourself, the racing thoughts that can’t leave you alone… it’s all gone. All easing up in a lighter mist of confusion and sadness.
Her curls bounce around her face when she shakes her head. “Not that we’ve known. So just… god, please give him a chance. He’s a good egg, a perfect egg, even! Just a bit confused with his own brain and, and, and he’s probably wondering what’s the proper procedure from here on out! He’s probably confused and wondering what to do and– and he’s so happy, Y/N. This morning, he couldn’t stop smiling. He didn’t tell
Morgan to shut up when he made sex jokes. He didn’t hog the coffee machine. It was like he was in his own little world and it was so cute to see him finally acting like the boy he should have been all along. I don’t want to see that go away.”
Penelope Garcia has a tell that you are pretty sure she doesn’t know about. It usually peek through her desperate rambles that you love so much, squeezing her voice out of her until she’s barely speaking. You know she’s self-conscious about her rambles, the amount of times she has apologised to you enough proof of it, but when she starts feeling guilty, like she’s staying something she shouldn’t have been, Penelope’s voice dies down, to the point that her mouth is moving but no sound is coming out.
“Pen…”
“I know you like him,” The intensity of her eyes behind her glasses is enough to have you looking away. “I know you do, you like him so much that you broke your security protocol and ran to the FBI to tell him that he needed to call his mom. Please don’t give up on him.”
“I’m not,” You whisper back, shaking your head so fast your neck hurts a little. “Pen, I’m not giving up on him, I don’t think I ever could. I’m just… insecure. I understand Spence’s experience is unique to him, but mine is unique to me, and I think we’re both in the learning process. I just wish he would’ve talked to me, you know? Spencer kissed me like there was no tomorrow yesterday and this morning he didn’t even acknowledge it. What if he doesn’t want to do it anymore? What if he changed his mind? You know, his brain works too fast and he could’ve thought about all the future scenarios in which this goes wrong and–“
“You know, sometimes you two sound so much alike that it’s scary. I’ll tell you the same thing I told him, get your head out of your ass, it’s not a hat.”
“Hey!”
“Your intrusive thoughts are shitty!”
“That is a really weird way to put it–“
“What are you two talking about?” Turning to look at Spencer, you’re surprised to see him all packed up with his satchel hanging by his side. You deflate a little at how ready he is to leave, thinking he’s going back to the tarmac to meet up with the team wherever they are, but he beats you to the punch. “Y/N, ready to go home?”
“Oh,” You scramble to get up, grabbing your bag and your visitor’s pass and then nodding. “Yeah, I guess. Are you coming with?”
“Yeah, I told Hotch I’d be working from home in case my mom’s nurse called again,” He gives you that tight-lipped smile you love so much and you kind of swoon.
“Alright,” You give Penelope a hug goodbye and from then on, you find yourself in the longest stretch of silence you’ve ever been before.
The tension is there, taut enough that you feel like your stomach is being pulled out of your body every time he sucks in a breath a bit too hard or opens his mouth just to close it again. Every time, you think he’s going to initiate the chat, and, every time, he doesn’t. It disappointment after disappointment, and by the time you two make it back to his place, yo can’t keep it in anymore. “Spence,” You call softly, letting him open the door the the building without rush and following him inside. As per usual, he’s quick to let you lead, gesturing politely for you to go up first. “Spence, we need to talk about last ni– Abigail, what are you doing here?”
You’re not even at the top of the stairs when you see her, all sweaters and ponytails standing by your door. “Oh, hi boss!” Her joke makes you cringe a little, but you smile nonetheless. You must’ve done something to alert Spencer of how uncomfortable you actually are, his hand sneaking to grab yours as he squeezes past you to stand one step above, body almost covering yours completely. “Oh. Hi.”
Her tone change is obvious even to your layman ears, and you squeeze Spencer’s hand in nervousness. “Abigail, right?” He asks, a small smile playing on his lips as if he’s trying to be nice, though the squint in his eyes tells a whole other story. “Good to see you again. Did you move in okay?”
“Yeah,” The way she moves her head to the side, trying to get a glimpse of you, has red flags raised all up in  your head. “All moved in and ready to start work on Monday!”
“I’m happy to hear you’re excited, Abigail!” You reply with a forced chuckle, climbing the extra step to stand side by side with Spence. Your hands are intertwined behind his back, his fingers playing with yours, and if it’s to keep you calm or himself, you don’t know. “I’m excited for you to start at the store, too. Is there anything you need, though? I know I said I’d send you a starter email and a draft of a schedule, but I just haven’t had the time today. I’ll work on it as soon as I can!”
“Oh, no, no, no hurry!” Once she can see you, it’s like her whole persona changes. She’s bubblier when she’s talking to you, shoulders less tense and voice less tense. “I was just coming here to bring you this. It got delivered to my apartment by accident, but it has your name on it.”
From behind her back, she pulls a brown package. It’s small and thin, and it doesn’t seem so have any logo on it. “Y/N, are you expecting something?” Spencer whispers, eyes not leaving Abigail’s hand and for a second you let yourself panic enough to believe she’s carrying a bomb. It felt like she was carrying a bomb. Like it was going to blow up and your entire life, your entire re-construed life with Spencer by your side, and everything would soon come crumbling down.
“N-No,” You stutter back and your body goes frigid cold when Abigail takes a step forward to you two, arms stretched out to give you the package. “Oh my god, no, no, no one knows I’m–“
Quickly grabbing the box, Spencer wastes no time in getting you inside the apartment. “Thank you so much for bringing this, Abigail, but we really have to get home. As promised, you’ll hear from Y/N soon on that starter email. Have a great rest of your day!”
“Wait, I wanted to talk to Y/N about–“ The loud slamming of the door drowns her words out.
Before even looking your way, Spencer is on the phone. “Hotch,” He breathed out, eyes wide in that crazed way that you’ve only see once before, in your shop when he had his gun out. “She found Y/N.”
You know you can’t call this an ending, not when you two never even had a begging…
“We have to relocate her.”
But it surely feels like one.

Another post I’ve had locked away for a while! Sorry for not posting this last night as promised, I had entirely too much to drink last night lmao.
Tagging my two besties @daddy-dotcom and @rainaaaskyy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There were some songs that were just meant to be catchy, no matter how annoying they could be. The rise of catchy songs came with the likes of TikTok, especially when it is filled with people who get famous for dancing to the most random songs or it inspired artists get their work into the world.
Some songs were made for humor related purposes, which birthed some of the most catchy pieces of music that would have anyone driving the surrounding people insane. Case in point, Penelope came into work excited to show the girls of the office one song she found on the app.
At first, they made fun of it and they all had their laughs, then the five of them put together a dance for themselves. That made the rest of the BAU endure the group acting like a group of teenagers who just had their favorite band release a new song that they needed to listen to until they got sick of it.
Spencer felt like he was going insane, Matt couldn’t help but laugh every time they broke out into their own song, Dave just thought they were insane but he found himself humming along with the girls, then there was Luke who thought it was the most amusing thing he’d ever seen. It was like Y/N would sing it everywhere and even if the song was one of the dumbest ones he heard, he’d admit that it was catchy.
That was why he’d belt it around their shared apartment, which would always result in the two getting into a laughing fit that left both of their stomachs hurting. He would even do his own improvised dances for each line of the song, which again, could have Y/N crying laughing.
It was a slower paced day at the office, everyone getting caught up on the paperwork that they hadn’t gotten around to yet because they were caught in an endless loop of jumping from case to case. They had to work fast because evil never seemed to give them a fucking break.
So, it became bustling with everyone gathering up reports and getting ready to give them to Emily to have them finished and filed away. To nobody’s surprise, it wasn’t long until Tara was humming the familiar melody.
“No. Please. I’m begging you..” Spencer groaned as he brought his hands up to cover his ears. “This is worse than prison. You know that? A million times worse.” They always appreciated the dramatics of Spencer Reid. “I’ll tell you whatever you wanna know, just stop torturing me.” He breathed out.
Luke was already laughing at the man’s actions. “You know they sing it because you have that reaction, right?” He asked, making Matt stop to lean against Luke’s desk. “He’s got a point, Reid. If you laugh about it, they will do it less.”
Y/N was coming in from the kitchenette while shaking her head. “No such luck, boys.” She laughed as she was skipping to her desk. “I think you should embrace it, boy genius.” She had commented, ruffling his hair on her way to her desk with a smile.
“I think you boys are just overly dramatic.” JJ piped in with her own opinion while heading over to her desk in order to finish the finishing touches on one of her reports. “No, we are not. That song drives me bonkers.” Spencer responded, his nose wrinkling as he was looking at the two men in front of him. “You’re telling me you like it?”
“It’s not so bad.” Luke responded while Y/N gestured to her boyfriend. “He sings it too! Don’t you, Alvez?” She smirked while lifting her coffee mug to her lips. “I do, yeah. It’s catchy!” Luke began to laugh as he put his hands up in self defense with a grin on his face. “We went out to dinner last night and I got a strawberry margarita and he started singing it!” Y/N emphasized while laughing at the memory of the previous night.
“Make fun of me all you want but you weren’t opening your legs after that drink at all.” Luke bit back while chuckling as his girlfriend’s cheeks were red.
“Give her one margarita and she’s going to bed.” He sang while the rest of the office was reduced to their own fits of laughter. “Face it, Cariña. Nobody is getting head or anything of the sort after you’ve had a sip of a margarita. You’re out of commission.”
Y/N was waving her boyfriend off while laughing. “You’re never getting head from me again, Alvez.” She teased while looking back at her paperwork. “You’ve ruined it for yourself!” She laughed at the male, who was putting his hand over his chest in a dramatic fashion. “That is the worst punishment ever! I’ll buy you a margarita after this as an apology.” He mused.
“Then I'll be happy while I'm going to bed.”

What Lurks Within, Pt. 2
Author’s Note: I told myself if I got ten responses to Part 1 that I’d do a Part 2. Here it is!
Content: Upon arriving in Denver, Spencer and Y/N visit the latest crime scene. After meeting with the case detective, the BAU discovers they are working against an unsub who is much closer to the team than initially anticipated.
Warnings: Typical BAU-level violence, hom!c!de, examining a crime scene, established relationship, very light fluff, a hostile work environment and brief arguments ensue
Tumblr media
I slept dreamlessly on our flight, until I felt someone gently shaking me. Wincing at the sudden intrusion of light as I opened my eyes, Spencer’s voice greeted me, “Well hello, sleepyhead. Welcome to Denver.” I groaned, groggily rubbing my eyes.
“That’s not possible, I just went to sleep,” I mumbled, exasperated. I pulled myself off his shoulder and leaned back in my seat, shutting my eyes again.
“Actually, you went to sleep about three and a half hours ago. We’re here, honey.” I felt his long fingers gently comb through my messy hair.
“What time is it?” I asked, dreading his response.
“About three in the morning, our time,” he answered. I audibly groaned. Opening my eyes once more, I saw Matt bent over Luke, trying to wake him from his slumber. Emily was shaking Rossi’s shoulder, to which he responded with some very colorful Italian phrases. JJ was the only member who stood ready to exit the jet.
“Glad to know I’m not the only one struggling to get up,” I said matter-of-factly. I rolled my neck, trying to release the tension that had formed while leaning against Spencer for hours. “Has anyone ever told you that you don’t make a very good pillow?”
“Only you, honey,” he smiled. “Come on, let’s get off this jet and into the car. You can sleep for a couple more minutes on the way to the local precinct, if it makes you feel any better.” He rose from his seat, stretching his hand out to me. I reached for his hand, wrapping my fingers around his wrist. He gently pulled me up from my seat. “Don’t forget your go-bag.”
“I’ve got it under control, my genius,” I said with a smile. Grabbing my bag from the seat, I turned one last time to see if Emily and Matt had made any progress with waking up Rossi or Luke. Thankfully, Luke had arisen. He slowly stood up and reached his arms for the ceiling, stretching out as I had done moments before. Rossi, on the other hand, was fighting Emily’s attempts with everything in him.
“I run this ship. Hasn’t anyone told you not to poke the bear? Let this old man rest.” Rossi swatted at Emily’s hand on his shoulder.
A playful smile tugged at the corner of Emily’s lips. She pulled back, placing her hands on her hips, “Need I remind you that I technically run this ship now, and that you’re batting at your superior?” Rossi bitterly opened one eye. Sighing, he rose from his seat with a grunt.
“It’s unfortunate when they get so old that they can’t move without groaning,” Emily said, to which Rossi offered a deathly glare. I couldn’t help but giggle, as I turned back towards the door of the jet. JJ and Spencer stood on the stairs, watching the comical show unraveling in front of us.
“You think that he’d eventually learn to wake up with some level of grace,” Spencer said while taking the final steps off the jet and on to the tarmac.
Luke’s voice came from behind me, “Nah, he’s too old, too set in his ways.” I nodded in agreement. As the rest of the team filed off the jet, the cold Colorado air sent a chill down my spine. Rossi stumbled down the stairs with his go-bag in-hand as he covered his eyes with sunglasses, despite the total darkness surrounding us.
“Tough night, Rossi?” Matt asked, teasingly.
“You have no idea, kid,” Rossi retorted, making his way to the closest of the three black SUVs which awaited our arrival. Opening the back, driver’s side door, he threw his go-bag in the seat across from him, climbed inside, and slammed the door shut. The window tint prevented us from seeing him any longer. The team let out a collective giggle.
“Alright,” Emily said, shaking her head, “time to get serious. JJ and Matt, I want you guys to work on victimology. Head to the Denver station. Get everything you can from Garcia and the local P.D. about the victims and their families.” JJ and Matt nodded. “Oh- and take Luke with you,” Emily shouted as an after-thought.
Luke furrowed his brow. “She forgot I was here,” he said in a tone of faux offense. He placed a hand over his chest, as if nursing a broken heart.
Emily rolled her eyes, “Cut me some slack, it’s three in the morning.” With that, Luke shrugged and followed JJ and Matt to the second black SUV. “As for you two,” Emily turned to Spencer and I, “You’re going to the latest dump site at Ashwood Park. It should still be an active crime scene. See if you can pick up anything that local law enforcement might have missed.”
You and Spencer nodded in unison. “Where are you and Rossi going?” Spencer asked. Emily sighed, lips becoming a thin line in displeasure. She crossed her arms over her body.
“David and I are also going to the local P.D. to meet with the police chief in private,” she shook her head in disappointment. “I have been very displeased with the way this case is being handled and the lack of communication from their department, and I intend on letting them know.”
“Ah,” Spencer said. I nodded in understanding. It was only fitting that the police chief knew what an absolute disaster his team had created.
Suddenly, a whirring noise signaled the rolling down of an SUV window and Rossi’s voice came bellowing from the back seat, “Emily, are we going or what?” Without turning her head, Emily raised her eyebrows.
“I love dealing with him when he’s like this,” she mumbled.
“Like what?” I asked, knitting my eyebrows together.
“When he’s hungover and pissed because a case took him away from his poker night,” she said with a smile. “Emily,” Rossi’s voice came from the SUV again. “I’m cold, I have a headache. Let’s get moving.”
“Good luck, you two… though I think I’ll need it more,” she turned and made her way to the SUV, hopping in the driver’s seat. Rossi, still in the back seat, slowly rolled up his window, disappearing behind the tinted glass. I looked up at Spencer, who tried to suppress his smile. It was all pretty hilarious, truly.
“Well, enough of that,” Spencer said. “Time to get serious.” I nodded in agreement.
“Who's driving?” I asked.
Spencer raised his eyebrows incredulously. “Are you kidding me? I am never letting you drive again after experiencing your behind-the-wheel ‘skills’ last week in Miami.” He accentuated the word ‘skills’ with air quotes.
I let my jaw drop in fake disgust. “Whatever do you mean? You mean you don’t like going 115 in a 75?”
“That is exactly what I mean, as well as several other bad aspects of your driving we don’t have time to get into. Come on.” Making our way to the SUV, Spencer climbed into the driver’s seat and I into the passenger’s seat.
Spencer started the vehicle, fumbling to turn the heat up. He opened the maps application on the SUV’s touch screen, “Emily should’ve sent directions to the park to your tablet. Can you pull them up on the screen, please?” You pulled your tablet out of your bag and shared the directions Emily provided to the SUV screen. “Alright,” Spencer said, “Off we go.”
Driving in silence for thirty minutes, you soaked up the new sights of Colorado. After only a year and a half with the team, you’d yet to work a case here. You were a bit disappointed you wouldn’t be able to experience the fun side of the state because of this case. As a result, you made a mental note to pay attention to possible vacation activities for you and Spencer to consider before your next trip.
Arriving at the park, Emily was correct about the location being an active crime scene. Photographers, policemen, and yellow tape surrounded the scene. Despite the large police presence, the number of media outlets set up around the park was doubly concerning.
“The unsub getting all this media attention can’t be good,” I said to Spencer before climbing out of the SUV. He bobbed his head in agreement as he climbed out the driver’s side.
“Agents,” a local detective approached us. His thick black mustache and shaggy hair made him look like a 70s porn star. I reached out my hand, offering a firm handshake as Spencer offered a small wave of his hand. “Welcome to Denver. I’m Detective Whittendon,” he said as he returned my handshake, offering Spencer a curt nod of acknowledgement.
“Detective Whittendon, I’m Agent L/N. This is Dr. Spencer Reid.” I tried to recite the formal introductions Emily taught me as efficiently as possible, “The BAU is here to assist your team in any way we can.”
“Thank God. We need all the help we can get on this one. If you’ll follow me this way…” He trailed off as he turned to face the taped-off scene behind him. Spencer and I followed him close behind, approaching the yellow crime scene tape, attached to a blue swing set which roped off the area.
I saw the body before we’d crossed under the tape. With a slashed throat and heavy bruising covering his naked body, he had surely been in captivity before his death. We ducked under the tape and approached the body. Spencer crouched down, examining the ligature marks on the victim’s wrists and ankles. “Who’s the victim?” Spencer asked, looking up at Detective Whittendon.
“Thirty-five year old bank teller, Jeff Olsen,” Whittendon said, not taking his eyes off the body. In a lot of ways, Olsen’s appearance reminded me of Spencer. Brown hair, stubbled face, thin frame and tall build. What if that was Spencer on the ground? I forced myself to look away, drawing a shaky breath. No time for what-ifs and unfounded fears, Y/N… Get it together…
“These ligature marks suggest he was in captivity for days before his death,” I vocalized. Spencer and Whittendon nodded.
“This means the unsub has a place he can hold these men. It’s private enough that he can get away with beating and torturing them before he kills them,” Spencer surmised.
Whittendon looked at me. “We’ve got a team working on a geographical profile to try and narrow down possible locations of his hide-out,” he said.
“Detective Whittendon,” I started, “with all due respect, your department has not been very forthcoming with correct information about the dump sites and manner of death in these cases.” The detective cocked his head to the side, furrowing his brow. He brought a hand up to his face, rubbing over the stubble on his unshaved cheeks.
“Agent L/N, that doesn’t make sense. I personally file those reports and hand them over to the tech team. I’m very thorough. There must be some mistake.” I tried to read his face for any sign that he may be lying, or that he might have some doubts about his own carelessness. If he had a tell, I didn’t notice. I turned my attention back to Spencer, who narrowed his eyes as he also tried to analyze Whittendon’s response.
I nodded, believing his claim for the time-being. “We’ll ask our technical analyst about it when we return to the local office,” I said. “Until then, have your crime scene technicians found any clues throughout the area?”
Whittendon shook his head, “Nothing… well, except for this.” He walked over to a small table set up by the crime scene investigators, gently picking up a bag. Whittendon held the bag out to me, and I took it gently from his hands. Inside the clear bag was a small red marble, with white swirls surrounding the fragile class it was made from.
“And where was this found?” Spencer asked, rising from his crouched position next to the body and leaning over me to get a better look at the marble.
“In the victim’s mouth,” Whittendon said, shifting uncomfortably on his feet. “I believe it was put there post-mortem.”
“Has this been a theme throughout all the crime scenes?” I asked, handing the bag back to Whittendon.
He accepted the bag, turning to place it back on the CSI table. “Yes,” he said. “There’s been a marble found at each scene. However, this was the first time it’s been placed inside the victim rather than dropped next to the body.” His eyes scanned Spencer and I’s faces for our thoughts on the strange calling card. I made eye contact with my boyfriend, who returned my gaze.
“This is something we didn’t know about until now,” I told Whittendon. His jaw dropped a bit, eyes bulging incredulously.
“I’ve included this detail in all my final reports. You’re telling me none of this information got to D.C.?” He ran his hands over his face in frustration. I shook my head in response. “I’ll have a talk with my tech team when I get back to the office… I can’t believe this sh-” he turned away from Spencer and I once more, ducking back under the police tape and walking away from the scene.
“What do you think, Spence?” I asked. He walked around the victim’s body once more, returning to stand by my side. He gently grabbed me by the arm, pulling me away from the photographers and crime scene analysts still examining the scene. “Where are we going?” Taking me in the opposite direction Whittendon had just gone, and ducking under the crime scene tape, he stopped us behind some of the park’s small trees.
We were out of earshot from the locals, and a serious look crossed Spencer’s face as he looked around to make sure nobody was listening to us once more. “Spencer, what is going on?” I asked.
“I think someone inside the local police department is disrupting the investigation by altering the files. You saw the way Whittendon looked when he found out we hadn’t gotten the information he set aside for us,” his tongue dashed out over his lower lip before he continued. “We should get back to the precinct and tell the rest of the team what’s going on.”
I nodded fervently. “You’re right. I’ll tell Whittendon that our unit chief wants us back at the office. You call JJ and tell her to gather everyone in the conference room. Let her know we’re on our way.” He slipped his phone out of his pocket, dialing numbers while I began looking for Whittendon. When I found him, he stood by himself, smoking a cigarette in the parking lot behind a patrol car, hiding from the local media.
“These damned reporters. All they ever want is more gore and another quote for their headline,” he took another draw of his cigarette before dropping it on the parking lot and stamping it out with his boot.
“I know how it is,” I responded, resting a kind hand on his shoulder. Gently pulling my hand away, I cleared my throat. “Detective, I came to tell you that our unit chief requested Dr. Reid and I head over to the precinct.”
Whittendon looked down at me and nodded. “I’m sure I’ll see both of you there. I sent a message to my tech team. We’ve got a very serious conversation to have,” he said with a deep sigh.
“Of course, we’ll see you there,” I responded. Despite his concern, I refused to tell Whittendon what Spencer suspected was happening within his department. You can never be too careful. You never know whose side someone might be on.
I heard footsteps approaching and turned to see Spencer coming towards us. “The team knows we’re on the way,” he said. “Are you ready to go?” I turned back to Whittendon one more time, who offered me a small nod, as if to say he didn’t need any more from us at the moment.
“Yes, let’s go.” I turned away from the detective and followed Spencer back to the black SUV he’d left in the parking lot. We climbed in our respective seats as Spencer started the vehicle, and I plugged the precinct’s address into the SUV’s digital map.
“I guess Emily was right,” Spencer said as he slowly pulled out of the park’s parking lot. “We do have our work cut out for us, here.” I took a deep breath in response, leaning my head back against the passenger’s seat headrest as I tried to replay the conversations we’d just had in our mind, wondering if I’d missed anything. “You alright?” Spencer asked, reaching a hand over to rest on my thigh.
“Yeah, Spence,” I said, “just taking some mental notes and making sure I didn’t miss anything.” The rest of the trip was made in silence, as the twenty minute drive to the precinct felt like hours with the weight of Spencer’s suspicion resting on both of our shoulders. After we arrived, we walked inside. I scanned the room for familiar faces, and saw Matt standing in the conference room with Luke, JJ, Rossi, and Emily all gathered around the large table.
“Lead the way,” I told Spencer, gesturing to the conference room. We walked through the desk-crowded office to the conference room, Spencer holding the door open for me as I slipped in behind him. I heard a small click as he pressed the door knob’s lock into place, as I got to work shutting the blinds so any local workers wouldn’t be able to see what was happening inside.
“What is going on with you guys?” JJ asked. “You’re locking this place up like Fort Knox.” She raised an eyebrow as Matt placed his hands on his hips. Luke cocked his head to the side, silently questioning our actions. Rossi and Emily leaned back in their chairs, preparing for whatever bombshell we were about to drop.
Once I closed the last blind, I turned to face the group as Spencer made his way to the head of the table. “Sit here, Matt. We’ve got a lot to discuss,” I gestured to the seat next to me. Without saying a word, Matt sat down next to me, folding his arms in front of him as Spencer settled into his chair.
“Okay,” I nodded, “go ahead, Spence.”
“Okay.” He sat up straight, eyeing the team. “I think I know why the communication we’ve received from this office has been so awful.”
Emily lifted her head in interest. “I wish you’d enlighten us, Spencer. Police Chief Graydon was no help on that front.”
Spencer paused for a moment, taking a deep breath before continuing, “I believe someone in this department is the unsub… or working to protect him.” The room was silent as glances were exchanged between members.
“That’s a heavy accusation. What are you basing this on, kid?” Rossi asked. Spencer looked down at the table, furrowing his brow.
“Y/N and I just met with the detective on the case. He swears he sent us files that were accurate and entirely thorough. He was genuine about it, too.” I nodded to the group, showing my agreement with Spencer’s conclusion.
“Whittendon wasn’t lying,” I said. “I think he’s a good cop. Somebody in this department is trying to throw us off the trail.” The tension in the room was high as I scanned the faces of our team members. Heavy as the accusation was, it seemed as though they were accepting it with some level of belief.
“If that’s the case,” JJ began, “how should we proceed?” She looked at Emily for guidance. Emily rocked back in her chair, carefully calculating her next statement.
“We should keep our cards close to our chest,” Emily answered slowly. “Be helpful to the locals, but don’t get too friendly. Any new developments that come out of this room are only to be shared between the seven of us.” We all nodded in unison, taking in the severity of the situation. Dealing with a difficult department was one thing, but trying to find a criminal within one was a different game altogether.
“With that being said,” Rossi spoke up, “try not to make it too obvious that we’re keeping things under wraps. Just be casual about it, make it seem like FBI protocol.” Murmurs of agreement went up around the group.
Spencer opened his mouth to speak again, but was cut off by a loud crashing sound coming from the main bullpen of the precinct. We all jumped out of our seats. Luke began making a dash for the door. “Wait!” I said, stopping him in his tracks. Being closest to the window, I peeked through the blinds to see what was happening in the office. Detective Whittendon stood over a young man, as the worker’s shattered computer monitor laid on the floor next to their feet. “Uh-oh,” I said.
“What is it?” JJ asked with quiet urgency, hand resting on her holster.
“I think Detective Whittendon and his tech team are having a little disagreement… I’ll go talk to him.” I turned away from the blind and reached for the door handle when Spencer’s voice cut me off.
“Y/N,” Spencer said, “do you really think it's a good idea for you to go out there and try and talk to him while he’s clearly in a fit?” More yelling came from the bullpen, and I snuck a glance out the blinds to see Whittendon face to face with the tech worker.
“He’s a good guy, I’ve got this,” I said, shrugging at Spencer. Opening the conference room door did nothing to tear Whittendon’s scathing look away from the worker, nor to lower the volume of his shouting.
“You no-good son of a bitch!” Whittendon exclaimed. “I want to know what happened to my original files, and I want to know now!” He emphasized ‘now’ by slamming his open hand on the worker’s desk. The worker seemed to cower in fear.
“Sir, all I did was send over the file I received. Honest. I never even opened-” Whittendon’s sharp look cut the worker off.
I slowly made my way towards the pair. Stepping in between them, I spoke. “Detective, I think you should step out and cool off for a minute,” I said. Whittendon acknowledged my presence for the first time, eyes flickering down at me before glancing over my head at the worker.
“I’ll be back, Richie,” Whittendon said. “By the time I am, I hope you’ve come up with a better explanation for what happened to my goddamn files.” With that, Whittendon turned sharply and headed for the precinct door, stepping out into the cold Colorado night.
To be continued! :)

post prison!spencer reid x fem!reader
genre: enemies to lovers, smut with a plot
summary: spencer can't help but despise his "replacement", especially during an undercover mission in a nightclub.
MDNI 18+
“this is insane.” penelope garcia mutters on the other end of the phone call. “there’s no way jeffery was able to absolutely take himself off the internet.” she huffs, the keyboard clicking in the background. “i’m gonna keep working. i’ll be back in a jiffy, i swear!” she says sweetly before hanging up.
the unsub, jeffery hogan had abducted then murdered four young women in los angeles california. the team had been in la for three days now, and jeffery had already killed two more women before they could stop him. all of them were getting antsy and a little angry.
you sigh, leaning back in your chair as the rest of the team begins talking amongst themselves, minus spencer, who had been staring at a map for twenty minutes.
“reid.” you say, catching his attention. he doesn’t look up, but you can tell that your voice startled him slightly.
“hmm?” he says, annoyance lacing his tone. you roll your eyes. he had been an absolute dick to you since day one. the whole team had described him as a saint, yet, you couldn’t see it. yes, he was attractive, but that didn’t distract from how hateful he was towards you. plus, you had been nothing but nice to him when you first met him, doing nothing to get on his bad side.
“did you make a connection between the locations?” you ask curtly. he huffs. “i don’t see you doing anything helpful.” he snaps, finally looking up from his map to glare at you.
“spence,” jj begins, joining the conversation unknowingly. “any connections?” he smiles and turns to face her, like you hadn’t just asked the same question.
“the one common location that overlaps with all the crime scenes and significant places in jeffery’s life is the ‘night owl’, a local night club.” reid says, smirking at you when he finishes his sentence like a teenager. you scoff.
emily gives them a look that says “act professional please”.
“we have no idea what he looks like, we only know bits and pieces of his life that garcia could dig up, how are we going to catch him?” matt asks, leaning against a wall with his arms crossed, a coffee in hand.
“i could go undercover,” you begin with a shrug. “most of the girls he abducted have been around my age and have my same features.” emily nods in agreement.
“one issue.” rossi says. “the unsub has always abducted women on dates.” you nod. that’s true.
“i could go with you.” matt says, standing up straight and taking a sip of his coffee. you open your mouth to thank him but emily cuts you off.
“no offense simmons, but what if we sent in reid instead? he closer matches y/n’s age and resembles the victims boyfriends more closely.”
spencer opens his mouth to protest but tara cuts him off with a smile. “great idea, you guys should leave in an hour or so, you better start getting ready.”
you watch as reid fights the urge to say something rude, but is quickly whisked away by emily.
jj helps you get ready in another conference room of the precinct, dressing you like the average clubber.
your outfit is a small, tight, red mini dress, with matching heels and accessories. you had to admit, you looked good. you found yourself wondering what they had put reid in and whether he would find you attractive in this tight dress.
“you look amazing.” a voice breaks you out of your trance as you’re putting in an ear piece. you smile, turning to face emily.
“thank you.” you say softly, using your hands to smooth out your dress. “i think i’m ready.” you add, slightly nervous. emily reassures you that you will do great and asks you to follow her outside.
that’s where you’re met with spencer reid. he looks unfortunately handsome, hot even, wearing the most casual “spencer outfit” you have ever seen: corduroy pants, converse, and a white button down. the white button down was sheer linen (very beachy) and allowed you to barely see his chest. you quickly remind yourself that he is in fact a dick, hoping that will somehow make him less attractive.
you watch as his eyes wander your body. emily seems to notice and clears her throat.
“you guys gotta get going.” she breathes out a smirk on her face.
reid walks over to the side of the car. you smile slightly as he opens the door, your smile fading as he slides in alone slamming the door behind him.
“petty bitch.” you mutter. your heels angrily clicking against the asphalt as you walk to the other side of the suv, ripping open the door and sliding in with your arms crossed. you slam the door behind yourself, eyes glaring into the side of reid’s face.
“look,” you begin, your tone angry. “if this is going to work you need to at least try to pretend not to be a fucking asshole.” he scoffs, turning to face you.
“watch your tone.” he says lowly, his voice sending a shiver down your spine. your arms are still crossed and you watch as spencer’s eyes go from your face to your tits, then back up again.
you remind yourself that indeed, he's just a man. he may be a genius but behind that, he’s simply just a man with needs. you were going to make tonight hell for him.
you smirk, eyes glaring into his. “do your fucking job and i just might comply, doctor.”
he turns his head away from you, staring out the window, a new type of tension in the air.
“can you guys hear me?” jj says through you ear pieces. “yeah.” reid says, you can hear how angry he is, just through one word.
the team gives you both a rundown and reminds you both of your parts.
“…remember you’re a couple!” garcia reminds you. the team agrees loudly on the line. “yeah,” alvez says. “pretend to like each other for one night.”
“we’ll try, alvez.” you reply as the suv pulls up in front of the busy nightclub.
you look over at reid. “open my damn door and look like you fucking mean it.” you say through gritted teeth. he doesn’t respond as he steps out of the car, shutting his door quietly and makes his way over to your side of the car. he opens your door with a fake smile on his face, putting out his hand for you to grab. you get out of the car, leaning in to whisper in his ear.
“grab my waist.” you demand. he huffs under his breath, reaching his large hand to rest on your waist. he leans in to whisper back. “you will not dictate this night. i have over ten more years of experience than you, on this team. you do not get to boss me around, y/l/n.” he says through gritted teeth, pulling away from your ear with a fake smile on his face. you don’t have time to respond as he says; “let’s go, baby.”
the nickname hits you like a brick, especially the way it comes out of his mouth so effortlessly. in an attempt to control your composure, you smile and lean against him as he rubs his hand lovingly across your waist.
you both enter the night club, the mix of bright lights and darkness temporarily blinds you as you grip onto spencer for support.
“don’t respond, but we see you’ve made it inside. go grab a drink from the bar then hit the dance floor.” emily orders. spencer nods, leading you towards the busy bar.
as you approach the bar, the bartender asks what you both want. “i’ll have a club soda with lime.” spencer says, turning his head to look down at you. “what do you want, baby?” he asks, rubbing circles on your waist softly. you smile back up at him pretending like you don’t want to kill him and subtly dig your ass into his crotch. he sucks in a breath.
“i’ll have a vodka soda.” you say with a sweet smile on your face. the bartender nods going to make the drinks.
you look back at spencer, his jaw clenched and his breathing heavy. you set your phone down on the bar and “accidentally” knock it off of the counter.
“oops!” you say dryly, bending down to pick it up, your ass now rubbing against his crotch. you subtly feel something twitch in his pants.
“y/n.” he warns you. you nod innocently. “hmm?” you hum. he moves his hand from your waist. you look back at him to silently scold him, but he quickly uses both hands to push you away from his crotch. he slides his hands down your waist, to your ass, then pulls down your dress in one quick motion. a man standing to his left begins complaining loudly about how he can no longer see your "fattie". you almost thank him, then remember that its fucking spencer you're dealing with.
he doesn’t say anything and simply hands you your drink, leading you away from the bar and the creepy men, to a nearby table.
you bite your lip to hold back hateful words that dare to spill out. you stand in silence, spencer sipping his drink while you chug yours.
"you look miserable." emily says in your ears. "do something." she adds.
"wanna dance, pretty boy?" you ask him, the nickname falling from your mouth accidentally. you pretend like it was on purpose as spencer looks up from his drink, slightly stuttering over his response.
"y-yeah, yeah." he repeats, regaining his composure. he grabs your hand and leads you towards the crowd of sweaty people dancing, only looking back once to make sure you were still there
spencer scans the crowd as he pulls you into his chest harshly.
"i'm not just some doll you can throw around, reid." you yell over the music, sick of his bullshit. he looks you in the eyes and shrugs.
as the song changes, couples around you begin to make out.
"kiss me, reid." you say, realizing the awkward dancing in a crowd of horny couples would defer the unsub's attention. spencer doesn't seem to hear you. "reid." you repeat, his eyes still scanning the room. "spencer." you say, the first time you've ever said his first name to him. this catches his attention. his gaze finally falls to you, his frame towering over yours as you wrap your arms around his neck.
"i need you to kiss me, spencer."
the usually dick-ish man makes no cocky response. instead, he simply tips his head down capturing your lips in a kiss. the kiss is awkward at first, but quickly turns heated as you press your body against his. his hands, which were loosely on your waist move downward, rubbing circles on your ass and somehow moving you closer to him.
you run your hands through his hair, feeling him moan softly into your mouth. his sweet noises immediately go straight to your now-wet-core. you break the kiss for a second, to catch your breath, your faces still inches apart.
spencer's pupils are blown, his hair is messy, and his lips slightly swollen, tinted red from your lipstick. fuck, you want to devour him.
spencer quickly resumes the kiss, this time you don't have to ask. you easily feel how hard he is already, with his cock pressed against your leg.
you groan softly as you push your tongue into his mouth, eliciting more sweet noises from the handsome man.
"nice job guys, we have a suspect at 3 o'clock." emily says into our ears, reminding us that we aren't alone.
“let’s go somewhere more secluded.” spencer whispers, his breath hot on your cheek. he wants to lure the unsub out. you nod, waiting for him to move. instead his hands are still on your ass, his eyes on you, like he’s taking a mental picture.
“pretty boy.” you say almost inaudibly. “let’s go.” he spins you around so you’re in front now, able to maneuver your way out of the crowd. one of his hands rests on the small of your back protectively as you head towards the back corner of the club, a stark contrast to the way he was treating you less than 10 minutes ago.
“the hypothetical unsub’s eyes are still on you guys but he hasn’t moved, we can’t seem to see his face on camera. you need to get him to move closer.” jj announces in your ears.
“she’s telling us to kiss again.” you whisper. he nods, placing his large hand on your cheek and swiping his thumb across your lips. you wrap your arms around his neck, leaning into kiss him. he picks you up slightly, just enough to allow you to sit on him as he takes a seat on a random couch.
as he moves from kissing your lips to your jaw and neck, you instinctively begin rocking your hips against his, feeling how hard he is under you.
he groans softly against your neck, his kisses becoming sloppier.
“y/n.” his tone desperate, the use of your first name alarming. “if you keep going i might not be able to maintain professionalism.”
you bite your lip excitedly. “do you want me to stop then, spencer?” his eyes stare into yours, his hands on your hips.
“no.” he breathes out, pulling you closer to him and kissing you again. he moves his hands upwards as his lips move downwards, slowly leaving kisses and rubbing your now-visible nipples through the thin fabric for your dress. you suck in a breath at the new sensation, your head thrown back in ecstasy.
“the unsub moved into the light, it’s jeffery. sending alvez and rossi in now to apprehend him. you guys can stand down, nice work.” emily says, startling them slightly. you pull away from spencer, your underwear undeniably wet and your cunt begging for attention. you awkwardly remove yourself from his lap, sitting next to him on the sofa, noticing that in fact he was hard, an outline of his dick highlighted in the odd club lighting. he squirms in his seat slightly, obviously trying to readjust.
“y/n,” he says, noticing your eyes on him. you hum in response, your eyes moving from his cock to his face. “bathroom.” he says simply.
he doesn’t give you an opportunity to respond, simply getting up and leaving the room. you wait for a few seconds, processing his words and attempting to wrap your head around the fact that an hour ago you hated this man and now you were dying for him to fuck you.
a few minutes pass and you make your way to the bathroom where you don’t even knock, you simply walk in. spencer is there waiting. immediately as you enter the bathroom, he locks it, then attached his lips to yours. you moan softly into the kiss, jumping up to wrap your legs around his waist. he, however, seems to as other plans as he sets you down on the sink and lowers himself between your legs.
he leaves soft kisses up your thighs, your legs now thrown over his shoulders. “spencer,” you beg, his lips dangerously close to your cunt. “please.”
he smiles as you beg, hooking his finger on your underwear and pulling them down your legs roughly. he lowers his head farther in between your legs, licking a slow stripe down your cunt, causing you to squeeze your legs around his head and moan.
hearing your reaction, spencer moans softly against your pussy, the vibrations making you gasp.
unfortunately the club music had been turned off and if anyone were to walk by, they would probably hear you making sounds. you cover your mouth with your hand to make sure you guys don’t get caught.
he moves his tongue farther into you, the sound of his mouth on your soaking wet cunt making lewd sounds that fill the small bathroom.
you moan into your hand, bucking your hips against his face.
he pulls his mouth away from you and without skipping a beat he inserts one of his large fingers into you, grinding his crotch against the edge of the sink to get himself off.
you open your mouth to tease him but he interrupts you by adding another finger into your pussy. you can’t help but moan loudly, feeling your walls clench around his fingers.
“so good for me.” he says breathlessly, his fingers’ pace rough inside you and his hips fast against the sink counter.
“spencer,” you say in between ragged breaths. “i’m so close!” he smiles at your words, removing his fingers from your pussy with a pop.
you groan softly, hating the feeling of emptiness.
“spencer.” you warn, sitting up to get a good look at him. he has a look in his eye, a smirk on his face.
“what’s up?” he says nonchalantly, licking you off his lips and his fingers. you ask yourself how he can be so calm when he was literally just finger fucking you and eating you out. his cock is still dangerously hard, a spot of pre-cum on his cute little pants. you catch yourself imagining how big he is.
“fine.” you huff, seeing how he didn’t seem like he wanted you to finish. you insert your own fingers into your swollen cunt, pumping them inside yourself like spencer had been only a minute ago.
you over exaggerate your moans watching as spencer begins to rub himself through his now tight pants.
“i’m not going to beg you, pretty boy, but i need your cock inside of me right now.” he smirks at your words, making his way back over to you, hands moving to your face, kissing you passionately.
“i’m pretty sure that was begging, y/n.” he says as he pulls away from the kiss, beginning to unbutton his pants.
however, loud knocks interrupt him. "spencer?? are you in there??" emily's familiar voice, fills the room.
"uh, yeah! i'll be out in a second!" he says, beginning to re-button his pants, his cock still visibly hard. emily says something inaudible from the other side of the door then walks away. you lean forward on the sink counter, resting your head on spencer's shoulder, his arms wrapping around you.
after a second of peace, you hop of the counter in an attempt to fix your appearance, sliding back on your awkwardly soaked underwear.
"can we please finish this later?" spencer speaks up, catching you off guard. you smile, your brain still processing the fact that an hour ago you wanted to kill this man.
"yes, please."

"Little Miss Reid, entrepreneur" (Spencer Reid x fem!reader x their daughter)
Tumblr media
Summary:  Spencer and reader help their little daughter with her very first lemonade stand, and the whole BAU family gets together. Requested: Nope   Warnings: This might be too fluffy: Reader discretion is advised. Category: Hardcore fluff . A/N: Hello! I wrote this for @imagining-in-the-margins Summer Sunshine Fic Challenge, I hope you enjoy it! Promp: Character helps their child with their first entrepreneurial venture... a lemonade stand. They weren't expecting half the damn FBI to show up.   Masterlist
Summer vacation was an interesting time at the Reid’s house. With both Spencer and (Y/N) having only two weeks off from work, they had to plan in advance and schedule all their activities, to make sure they had enough time to do everything their kids wanted to do with them during the break. Raven was already five years old, and Vicent was already two, and both Spencer and (Y/N) really wanted to make it up to them for always being away, solving cases with the BAU.
That’s why that year, their “Summer fun plans” included a trip to the grand canyon, visiting lots of museums, going to a water park or two, and most importantly: helping Raven with her first lemonade stand.
The little girl was obsessed with the idea of running her own business ever since she had visited her cousin Henry, and he had a little lemonade stand outside his house. Uncle Will had explained to her that that was Henry’s way to earn some money to get a new bike, and that was enough to plant a seed in the little girl’s brain.
- “Dad, remember when you said I couldn’t get a pony ‘cos they are too expensive?”- Raven asked her father later that night, after reading a bedtime story together.
- “Yes, they are too expensive and we don’t have enough room to keep a pony here. Why do you ask?”
- “‘Cos… you know how Henry wants a new bike and he has a lemonade stand to save money and get it?”- suddenly Spencer knew exactly where his daughter was going with that question.
- “Yes, I know.”
- “I was thinking…”- Raven made a pause and looked at her father, who was trying not to laugh.- “I know I can’t get a pony, but what if I have a lemonade stand and save a lot of money and you take me to Barnes and Noble and I get to buy all the books I can afford?”
Spencer never saw that plot twist coming. Of course, there was no way he could say “no” to his kid. Raven was very smart and she knew her dad would be thrilled with that idea. So, after a long logistic debate with his wife, and a talk with Nono Rossi, Spencer and (Y/N) scheduled a day. That Saturday, Raven was having her first lemonade stand in David’s front yard. They decided to do it there ‘cos it was a more family neighborhood than their street. You don’t usually see kids with lemonade stands in front of an apartment building, do you?
While (Y/N) went grocery shopping with their kids and got everything they needed to make lemonade, Spencer asked for professional assistance from a Lemonade Stand professional: Matt Simmons.
- “So, did you ever sell lemonade as a kid?”- Matt asked Spencer as they set all the materials and tools in Rossi’s backyard.
- “No, never. I really wasn’t into outdoor activities, as you might imagine.”- Spencer replied and Matt chuckled. - “But once one of my neighbors set one, and my father forced me to go and buy a cup.”
- “Why did he force you?”- Matt questioned, confused.
- “He wanted me to have friends my age. When I was seven, my best friend was the librarian.”- Spencer explained and looked around - “So, where do we start?”
- “Did you get spray paint?”
- “Yes, all of Raven’s favorite colors.”- Spencer grabbed a few cans and tossed one to his friend. Rossi walked over and left a cooler filled with cold beers.
- “I’ll leave this here, and in case you need me, I will pretend I can’t hear you while I spend my morning reading in my studio with the AC on.”
- “Thank you for letting us do this here, Rossi.”- Spencer smiled at him as he shook one of the spray paint cans.
- “Anything for mi principessa.”- David replied and waved as he walked back into the house.- “Good luck, kids!”
Spencer had been right: Matt Simmons was a lemon stand pro. In two hours they had a green and lavender stand made with four wooden crates. One rod on each side of the stand helped hold a banner (Y/N) had made the night before that read “Raven’s Lemonade” and on the front, Spencer hung another banner that read: “Lemonade: ¢50”
- “All set!”- Matt smiled proudly and tapped on Spencer’s back a few times. - “How do you feel?”
- “Excited, pleased with our work… nervous?”
- “Why are you nervous? Your kid is going to be thrilled!”
- “I know, but… what if no one shows up? She would be broken-hearted…”- Spencer sighed at the thought of his baby pouting, and Matt shook his head right away.
- “There is no way that could ever happen here. Not under this heat and not in Rossi's neighborhood. Elderly people are very supportive.”
- “Hey!”- Rossi argued, overhearing Matt’s comment on his way out. - “Who is elderly?”
- “Your neighbors!- Simmons explained right away, trying not to laugh.
Raven Reid yelled and jumped with excitement when she saw her lemonade stand. She ran around Rossi’s backyard, nearly hyperventilating. She hadn’t been so excited since Santa brought her the telescope she wanted.
- “It’s so pretty, daddy!!”- the little girl jumped into Spencer's arms and he caught her with a bear hug.
- “I’m glad you like it, birdie.”- he replied and kissed her chubby cheek. - “Did you and your mom get lots of lemons?”
- “Yes, and some lemon bars too, in case someone is hungry.”- the little girl explained.
- “Good idea, boo. Did you thank Nono Rossi for letting us set the stand in his front yard?”- the little girl shook her head and Spencer quickly set her down.- “Go tell him thank you.”- and off the girl went, running and yelling “Nono!” on her way into the house. Spencer stared at her as he stood in the middle of the backyard, putting all the tools Derek had given him a few years earlier back into the toolbox. His heart felt full of love knowing he could give his kids the childhood he never had.
- “Hey there, Bob the builder.”- (Y/N) walked out to the backyard and smiled at her husband. - “This looks amazing.”
- “Thank you.”- Spencer whispered and felt her lips on his immediately.
- “Raven is ecstatic, she wants to start making lemonade right now.” - and just in time, they heard the little girl’s voice calling for her mommy.
- “You heard the boss.”- Spencer whispered and kissed his wife one more time. Meanwhile, I’m gonna move this outside to the front yard.”
- “Great, Pen said she was gonna come and help around four, so we should be ready on time.”
When (Y/N) said Penelope Garcia was going to help, she pictured her friend slicing lemons and making lemonade along with her in Rossi’s kitchen. She never imagined her friend was going to… well… be Penelope Garcia, and take things over the top, as usual.
First, Garcia didn’t slice a lemon, she might as well have chopped the entire tree: she got to Rossi’s with homemade lemon cupcakes, lemon cake, lemon tart, and lemon cookies (lemon shaped, of course, and covered in yellow frosting). She had so many trays with goods, Luke was forced to help her. He picked her up and gave her a hand carrying everything over to Rossi’s.
- “Oh… my… good.”- (Y/N) whispered as she stared at the number of treats her friend had baked, piling on Rossi’s kitchen island.
- “I know, I might have gone a little over the top, but once I started, I didn’t know how to stop.”- Garcia apologized and smiled guilty at her friend, who only had one worry in her mind.
- “Ok, now I’m scared. How are we going to sell all this?”- (Y/N) asked, but Garcia dismissed her fears and shook her head immediately.
- “Don’t worry about that! I’m sure Raven is going to do great. We’ll charge a dollar for everything, so she won’t get confused with math.”
- “She is Spencer’s daughter”- (Y/N) chuckled as she spoke- “Math is not the problem. But Pen, I’m just scared no one is going to show up and she’ll feel discouraged. I don’t want my baby thinking she failed.”
- “Nonsense! It’s a lemonade stand, everybody loves a lemonade stand!”- Garcia replied and grabbed a fresh lemon- “Now, let’s make more lemonade!”
Raven ran out of Rossi’s front door carrying a stack of paper cups and a bag of paper straws. Right behind her, her mom carried a big glass dispenser filled with fresh lemonade. Raven’s little stand was ready and open to the public. A glass jar on the top of the counter was ready to be filled with the profit of the dar. Spencer stared at his daughter and took a few pictures with his phone. Garcia and Luke carried some of the sweets to start the sale, and Rossi opened his wallet.
- “Are you my first customer, nono?”- Raven asked, making her mom and dad chuckle.
- “I am, mi principessa. Can I have a cup of lemonade and a cookie, please?”- Rossi placed a dollar and 50 cents in the jar, and Raven’s eyes shone with joy as she poured her first order.
- “I’m gonna need a lemonade too.”- Luke said as he paid and waited for the girl to give him a cup as well.
- “Enjoy, uncle Luke.”- the little girl said and turned to her little brother Vincent, who was playing on a blanket on the grass their mother had set for him. - “Vinnie? Do you want some lemonade? For you, it’s on the house.”- the little girl grabbed her brother’s sippy cup and filled it with lemonade, as her parents filmed the entire moment on their phones.
JJ and Will showed up a few minutes later with Henry and Michael to support Raven’s little business. The kids played on the street with their skateboards, as Raven sat behind her stand, waiting for her customers.
A few of Rossi’s neighbors walked toward the lemonade stand, and Raven was shining. Her parents sat with little Vincent on his blanket and watched from a safe distance as their daughter took care of her paying customers. Meanwhile, Luke and García walked to the backyard with Rossi, Will, and JJ to enjoy the pool.
- “Fresh lemonade, get some lemonade”- Raven said to everyone who walked down the sideway and passed her stand. Everybody stopped and bought something for the little girl, she looked adorable while selling her products. But at a certain point during the afternoon, no one was coming. And Raven looked at her money jar feeling discouraged.
- “Mama… what if no one else comes?”- the little girl walked toward her parents and sat on (Y/N)’s lap. Her mother wrapped her arms around her and kissed her cheek a few times, making the girl chuckle.
- “Come on, it’s still early. It’s been what? just one hour? I promise by the end of the afternoon you are gonna be sold out of all the things you have in your stand.”- (Y/N) smiled and kissed her daughter’s cheek one more time before she stood up and walked back to her stand to wait for her customers. Spencer waited until Raven was far from them and turned to his wife. He didn’t have to say anything, she knew what he was thinking. It didn’t need saying. The two of them shared the same fear.
But after just a few more minutes, something weird happened. Anderson parked his car in front of Rossi’s and waved at the Reid’s as he walked to Raven’s stand and ordered a lemonade and a slice of lemon pie for him and his boyfriend. And less than a minute later, Andi Swan’s car parked down the street, and she showed up with her husband to get a lemonade and a lemon cupcake. Not only that, but Matt Simmons, his wife, and all his kids showed up, excused themselves for being late, and ordered lemonade and lemon cookies for the entire family. Raven was on fire, and her parents were… confused to say the least.
Where were all those people coming from? The cars kept parking: Ashley Seaver showed up with her kid and husband and got lemonade and lemon cake for her family. She hugged (Y/N) and Spencer and introduced them to her family, while more FBI agents kept showing up.
Alex Blake parked and nearly ran to the Reids as her husband followed close behind. Kate Callahan showed up as well, with her kids and husband, and soon after, Tara Lewis came along. Raven got to ask her mom for help to serve all the customers, and soon Pen and Luke showed up with more sweets and to refill the lemonade jar. Somehow, what had started like a simple lemonade stand ended up being an FBI get-together family party.
(Y/N) turned to Spencer and the two of them stared at the scene in shock. Pen and Luke walked to them and Garcia smiled and waved at everybody.
- “What did you do?”- (Y/N) asked her friend and she simply giggled.
- “I might have sent a few emails to everybody at the Bureau and some former agents telling them your little Birdie had a little entrepreneur of her own, and encouraged them all to come.”- Garcia explained and smiled innocently.
- “Everybody is here! We only need Elle and Hotch and we’d have the biggest BAU reunion ever!”- (Y/N) looked around in disbelief and chuckled.
- “You are forgetting me, little mama.”- (Y/N) froze and turned around slowly. That voice. She could never forget that voice. Derek Morgan stood in front of her, holding Savannah's hand and a stroller with their little boy: Hank Spencer Morgan.
- “Derek!!”- (Y/N) jumped and ran to hug him, as he chuckled and wrapped his arms around her.
- “Mrs. Reid! I missed you so much!”
- “I missed you too!”- (Y/N) said and turned to Savannah, who opened her arms and wrapped her in a hug.- “And you are gorgeous!!”
Spencer stared at their reunion with the biggest smile on his face, holding Vincent in his arms.
- “Is that my little nephew? You haven’t sent pictures of him this week! He looks so much bigger! What are you feeding him?”- Morgan joked and looked at Spencer. - “You look like you could use a nap, boy wonder.”
- “Two kids are more work than chasing serial killers”- the young doctor replied and chuckled as Morgan hugged him, tapping his back a couple of times.- “I missed you.”
- “Me too, brother.”- Morgan replied and smiled at his friend- “But I’m sorry to say I’m not here for you, I’m here for my little princess. Where is she?”- Derek walked to the stand, waving at their former colleagues on his way until he reached Raven and held her in his arms.
- “Uncle Derek! You are here!!”- the little girl yelled and wide opened her eyes - “You have to help me with my stand!”
- “That’s what I am here for! Lemme see what your old man did here…”- Spencer stood behind his friend and waited for him to inspect the construction.
- “I’m proud, you used the right nail for the wood.”- Morgan said, nodding.
- “Of course I did.”- Reid replied, almost insulted
- “Who helped you?”- Derek asked, and before Spencer could deny getting any help, his daughter explained.
- “Uncle Matt said he had plenty of experience with lemonade stands, so he helped daddy.”
- “Simmons?”- Derek chuckled and turned to Reid.- “You two did a great job.”
- “Thanks.”- Spencer smiled and turned to Raven. - “So, what is your uncle Morgan going to have, birdie?”
- “For you, lemonade on the house, uncle Derek.”- the little girl said and handed him a paper cup. - “But if you want to eat anything, you are gonna have to pay, ‘cos auntie Penelope said we had to split the profits.”- Morgan tried not to laugh, but failed, as Raven stared at him, waiting for a reply.
- “If that’s the case, I’m gonna have one of everything, thank you very much.”- and the little girl’s face lit with excitement as soon as she heard those words.
The afternoon ended, the FBI agent returned to their cars, and the BAU family moved from Rossi’s front yard to the back. David, Derek, and Luke prepared a barbecue, the kids played in the backyard, and (Y/N) and Spencer put away the lemonade stand. Nothing was left, not even a cookie. The sale had been a complete success.
- “How much did she make?”- Mrs. Reid asked her husband, who held the money jar and shook his head.
- “Over three hundred.”
- “Wow… she is gonna go crazy with the books.”- and as (Y/N) said those words and finished cleaning the last jar that was left in the sink, Spencer stood behind her and wrapped his arms around her.
- “Thank you.”- he whispered in her ear and sighed.
- “What for?”
- “For giving me everything I ever dreamed of.”- (Y/N) turned around and stared at her husband for a few seconds. She then leaned in and kissed him sweetly.
- “Eeewww!”- Raven said as she saw her parents kissing as soon as she walked into the kitchen. - “Uncle Derek is right, you are always kissing.”
- “Hey! Come here-” (Y/N) commanded with a smile and the little girl giggled as she walked to her parents.- “It’s a good thing your parents are always kissing, and we are also always kissing your chubby cheeks!”- and as soon as she delivered that line, both Spencer and (Y/N) started kissing Raven’s cheeks.
Summer was soon going to end, but those happy memories were definitely going to last forever.

Matt Simmons X Teen Daughter Reader
Request: 14 year old daughter of matt Simmons, where her and her best friend get kidnapped by the unsub and Matt saves them.
I love it!
B/F/N - Best friend Name
Third person pov...
In the quaint suburban home nestled amidst manicured lawns, 14-year-old
Y/N Simmons, daughter of the esteemed FBI agent Matt Simmons, led a carefree life.
Her laughter filled the house, her adventures with her best friend, B/F/N illuminating her days. However, one fateful evening, their idyllic world shattered.
Currently Y/N sits on the bottom of the stairs tying her shoes, she was planning on meeting her best friend at the park, Matt Simmons walker past her and lent against the banister.
"Have a fun time sweetie, be home by 6 okay?" He tells her, the H/C girl grins as she jumps up. "Yes Dad" she says grinning.
The man rolls his eyes and pulls her in for a hug which was returned, waving her out the door the agent sighs and walks to the living room where his wife was sitting.
Smiling at him she holds her hand out, Matt takes it and sits next to her, Kristy cuddles up next to her husband. "She'll be fine Matt" the man sighs.
"I know but-" "-you worry to much" Matt smiles and kisses her cheek. "I know"
Y/N Simmons giggles as she walks to the park to meet B/F/N. Being a saturday the park was filled with parents and kids playing in the park and outside on the field.
The two girls were excited to see each other, running up to each other they hugged twin smiles on their faces.
"Hey N/N"
"Hey B/F/N"
"Come on N/N!" Giggles B/F/N as she runs off to the seesaw, Y/N right behind her, the two girls plated on the seesaw, swung on the swings trying to see who could go higher.
As they did neither teen noticed a man standing under a tree watching them, the park was filled with Parents and their kids but knowone notices the man.
As he watched the two girls in particular he had a sinister grin on his covered face, he finishes his cigarette and crushes the butt into the earth.
He then walks closer as the two girls wonder away from the park, quickly he catches up with them.
"B/F/N wait for me!" Cries Y/N the H/C girl ran after her best friend who ran into the forest, they loved climbing trees seeing to could climb the highest.
"Hurry up then slowpoke" Giggles the
H/C girl as Y/N caught up with her, she then tackles the other teen to the floor. "Ooof" the two fall to the leaf covered floor laughing.
After a few seconds of laughter Y/N then rolled off the girl and onto the floor next to B/F/N both breathless from laughing so much.
The two then look at each other and end up laughing all over again, suddenly a twig snaps making the two girls jump at the sound, they hadn't noticed anyone following them into the forest.
Slowly and cautiously Y/N sits up from the ground, nervous E/C eyes searched around them, she nudged her best friend to get her to shut up.
As she saw Y/N expression she knew something was wrong, having an FBI agent as a Dad, Y/N has been taught how to protect herself and to observe her surroundings. Slowly the two girls stand up from the ground eyes looking everywhere.
They turn around to go back to the park, as they walk they continued looking around as they did, quickly walking turned into running. The two girls sprint through the forest and back to the park.
Y/N got back to the park first, bursting out from the bushes, she leans into her knees, breathing heavy from running she looked around for B/F/N. "B/F/N? Where are you!" She yells turning around to the forest she just ran out off.
As she did her blood ran cold, a shadowy figure emerged from the darkness, brandishing a gleaming blade. Terror surged through Y/N's veins as she realized their predicament.
The man had B/F/N in his grasp, holding the knife to the young teens neck, his other hand held the girl to his chest making sure she couldn't escape.
Y/Ns stared at them not knowing what to do, tears where falling silently down her friends face the H/C girl shook her head telling Y/N to leave.
"Let her go!" She yells, the man only tightens his grip on the terrified girl he was holding the balde too. "How about no, come with me or she dies?" He laughs as the girls look at each other.
Y/N looks at her best friend, she couldn't leave her with him, she just couldn't. "Alright I'll go, just don't hurt her" she says walking forward back into thr dark forest.
The man began dragging them into the depths of the woods, farther than they'd ever gone before, before she was taken Y/N managed to discreetly drop her favorite hair clip onto the floor, knowing her Dad will recognise it.
As the clock stuck 7pm, Matt Simmons' heart sank as his daughter's usual laughter turned into an eerie void. His instincts screamed that something was amiss.
Y/N was always on time coming home she never misses her cerfew, he had thought she's message before hand but she hadn't. Sitting in the kichen with kristy.
"Somethings wrong" he tells her, his wife instantly agrees. A frantic call to Sarah's parents confirmed his worst fears: both girls were missing.
Y/N's frantic screams echoed through the trees, but her pleas for help were met with silence. The cold grip of the kidnapper tightened around her, sending icy shivers down her spine. Despair threatened to consume her as she feared the worst.
The man had dragged the two girls deep into the forest, they'd never this far into it before. Eventually they came to a dilapidated cabin deep within the woods.
Their kidnapper, a twisted and deranged man, tormented them with threats and violence. Yet, amidst their despair, a flicker of determination burned within them.
Time became his enemy as Matt raced against the clock to find his precious daughter. He rallied his team and delved into the depths of the investigation. Every minute lost was an eternity, and the hope of rescuing Y/N dwindled.
As night fell, Matt led a team of agents into the wilderness, determined to leave no stone unturned. Their search continued relentlessly, their flashlights cutting through the darkness like beacons of hope.
Suddenly, a glimmer of movement caught their attention. Matt holds up his hand making the others stop.
"Wait, do you hear that?" He asks them in the distance, they heard the faint sound of muffled cries. Adrenaline coursing through their veins, they surged forward, their weapons at the ready.
As they approached the cabin, the horrifying reality unfolded before them. Y/N and B/F/N lay huddled together, their bodies bruised and battered.
With lightning-fast precision, Matt and his team stormed the building, subduing the kidnapper and freeing the girls.
Relief streamed down Matt's face as he embraced his daughter and her friend. Y/N squash herself into her Dad arms holding his tightly. "Daddy, I knew you'd come"she cries tears getting his shirt wet.
"Of course I came Baby, I'll always protect you" he tells her hugging both girls tight.
The end!
Hope you liked this, another Matt Simmons one haven't done one for him in ages, sorry for any grammar and Spelling mistakes.

JJ found herself tinkering with the watch on her wrist. Tonight was going to be an important night. You were finally meeting the team. It had been on the books for weeks, and it had taken months for you to have been able to mention it with her eyes nearing jumping out of their sockets. They were her family, after all. And, you? You were special. She wasn't sure what she was worried most about, them not liking you or you not liking them.
She sighs, pushing herself off the frame of the front door. You should have been out of the bathroom right now.
"Are you almost ready?"
You dropped your arms, just enough that the mascara in your hands is no longer close to your eye. She's called out to you, not even five minutes ago. Three minutes was generous, even. It was starting to get a bit, frustrating.
"Jennifer!" You call back with nothing else to really say after. You just want her to hear in your tone how tired you are of her asking. After a moment, you hear footsteps, and you huff. She steps into the bathroom, and you look up in the mirror. She's ready, and she looks good. Casual enough, jeans and teeshirt. Her make up was minimal, but she looked gorgeous, as usual. You speak up before she does, "Baby, stop bugging me. I'm getting ready, okay? We finna go to a bar, not a dinner reservation. Can you just stop rushing me?"
JJ ignores the question, zeroing in on your middle statement. "Exactly, we are going to a bar to meet them. So, what's all this? You don't have to go all out for them."
"You should know better than to think I'm getting gussied up for anyone but me." You retort, finishing up your mascara.
"You look beautiful, already," she sighs, leaning against the bathroom doorframe, "Can't you just, wrap it up? Your makeup looks about done."
You twist the cap back on your mascara and look up at her with a smile as you know what you're about to say is not going to be music to her ears. "My makeup is done. Now, I have to do my hair."
JJ groans, turning her body away from you. Her back, now, flat against the frame, she leans back against it. Eyes closed with a deep exhale, she slides down a wall. You have the most beautiful, artful head of hair ever. And, damn, if you didn't do a damn good job about making it into any masterpiece you wanted. But, God, did it take forever. She texts her team that you guys are going to be a little late, tells that they she would like them to meet you while they are at least mostly sober.
Emily reads JJ's text and sighs. She slides her phone into her back pocket, annoucing, "Beers only, for now, guys. They're going to be here a little late, and JJ wants us to be fairly sober when they get here."
Matt takes a swig of his bottle, "Did she say how long they were gonna be?"
"Uh, no, but she said her girlfriend was doing her hair," Emily answers, shrugging, "So, it shouldn't be too much longer." Derek and Savannah exchange looks before laughing. Seeing as Savannah had introduced JJ to you, she and Derek were the only ones who knew anything about you. Including how you looked, and more particularly, knew it would take a bit of time for you to do your hair. Emily squinted, as did the rest of the team, "What's so funny?"
Savannah amused, shakes her head while Derek answers through his laughter, "Nothing, I'm just saying that, if JJ wants us to be sober when they show up then we should switch to water."
The team talks amongst themselves, enjoying their night out. The first night out in a while, that they've gotten to enjoy Derek and Savannah's company. So, they make the most of it, while they wait. In fact, they were having such a good time, they had completely lost track of how long they had been waiting. The filled their drinking gap alternating between beers and water, and occassionally, ordering a round of shots. Then, the door opens, and Penelope gasps about someone so gorgeous she felt blinded. The team follows her line of sight, set directly on the door. As Savannah jumps up excitedly and moves around Derek to approach you, JJ walks in right behind you, after having just held the door for you. You grab her hand the moment she's close enough.
"Damn," Luke exhales, "JJ's girlfriend is.." He trails off, catching himself before he finds himself on the recieving end of pointed looks and the back Garcia's hand smacking his chest.
Maybe it's because he cut himself off, maybe it's because everyone's too busy staring with their jaws knocking between their ankles but neither reactions come. Instead, they just hum along while Emily lets out a quiet, "Tell me about it."
Derek laughs, "Pick your jaws up off the floor before they get here and JJ catches your eyes."
Matt is the first pull his eyes away and thus, respond. "Aw, c'mon, JJ doesn't really strike me as the possessive type."
Emily, getting flashbacks from years ago, tears her eyes away from the couple, getting this far away look in her eye as she murmurs, "Oh, yes, she is."
Matt, Luke and Tara give her a curious look as Reid, Derek and Garcia exchange looks because they know where Emily's mind went. Before Emily went to London, things between the two of them, made team nights out really uncomfortable sometimes. Even moreso, when Will was with them, confused as they were. How JJ didn't realize she was gay until two years ago will forever be something that confuses them. When they get closer, they stand in anticipation to greet the stunning couple. When they are within earshot, the group clammers over the sound of each other's voices to greet JJ, who's arm is tight on your waist because Luke still has that glazed over look in his eye when he looks at you. Dumbstruck and in love, and your body is going to pay the cost of that later.
"I'm sorry we're late," JJ says, after greeting her team back.
You smile, "It takes work to be this pretty."
"No, it doesn't," JJ argues, "You're always that beautiful."
Penelope squeals, "You guys are so cute." She locks eyes on you, pointing, "You, you are gorgeous."
You laugh, extending your hand to her, "You must be Garcia," and when she excitedly confirms, shaking your hand with a vigor you should have been expecting but was still surprised by, you introduce yourself to her. Letting go of her hand, Emily introduces herself to you and you make your way around the group. Before getting around to Derek and hugging him instead of shaking his hand.
"Oh, so you know two know each other?" Emily asks.
JJ's eyes sparkle as she bites back a laugh, looking at Derek and Savannah both, "You guys didn't tell them?"
Reid squints, "What was he supposed to tell us?"
"You were being so secretive about your relationship, I didn't say a thing." He answers.
You answer Reid, "They," pointing to Derek and Savannah, "introduced us."
"Wait," Tara asks, motioning between you and Derek and Savannah, "So, how is it that you know each other."
JJ immediately goes cherry red as you look at her, seeing if she would be willing to answer since she brought it up, and all. You laugh. She's still mildly embarrassed, certainly not ashamed, but it's still a fact that flusters her.
"She," you start, pointing to Savannah, "is my Aunt." Derek laughs as jaws drop and JJ's eyes become wide and glued to the floor. Luke and Tara start making cradle robbing jokes at JJ's expense, and you didn't think it was possible for her to become more red, but she did. You defend her, "To be fair, it took me six months of relentlessness for her to see me as the adult woman that I am, so please, hop up off my woman." And, you laugh, but you're kind of serious. You've never loved age gap jokes from the outside, and you weren't comfortable enough yet with JJ's friends for you to find them funny.
Savannah slides back into the conversation, "Okay, also, to be fair, I became an aunt rather early in life. So."
Now, they're dying to know how you two met, exactly. Which makes JJ's blush deepen because she does remember the first time she saw you. You think those six months of your effort was because she didn't see you as a woman, but it was really more because she was trying not to see you as a woman. The moment she saw you, she isn't going to say she fell in love with you, but she definitely imagined herself fucking you. In so many ways, so many positions. She imagined the way your moans and whimpers would sound in her ear, imagined how your sweat and arousal would taste on her tongue.
She had only recently truly realized she liked women; it's why she and Will separated, why he went back to New Orleans, and she hadn't even verbalized her newfound self discovery outloud to herself, much less to anyone else.
Furthermore, she had been leaning heavily on Derek and Savannah during this difficult time, as he and Savannah were helping her out with the boys. So, the very last thing she needed to be doing so imagining all the ways she could possibly having their niece screaming her name, but that's what she was doing. And, your sizing her up and giving her those flirtatious glances did her zero favors. Then, you started giving her more than suggestive glances, and she thought the devil sent you to her. So, not wanting to complicate her friendship with the Morgans, she did her best to keep a respective distance, but you made it so hard every single time she saw you. Because you'd openly wanted her just about as much as she wanted you in her mind.
Eventually, the two of you found yourself to be alone, and JJ did her best, but the chemistry was electric. After six months of trying to do the right thing, she had ended up absolutely railing you in your bedroom. And, you were caught as soon as Derek and Savannah came back home with the kids. So, as JJ blushed and blushed and avoided every eye in the room as you weren't shy about it at all, though, thankfully, you did spare them all the sweetest details.
"A go getter," Matt nodded, thinking back to when he met Kristy, lifting his beer to tip at you, "I respect it."
Emily's mind did some quick math, "Wait, is she the reason you came out?"
"Well," JJ looked at you with that lovesick twinkle in her eyes, "She certainly helped."
"I wasn't sure you would ever come out," Reid chimes in. And, everyone mutters their agreeance. If what Emily, Derek and Penelope are doing can be considered muttering.
"Aye," you speak, defensively. JJ looks slightly offended, and slightly is enough for you to say something, "Some journeys are longer and harder than others. She came out when she was ready."
"Protective, too," Tara notes, looking at JJ, "I like her." And, she's not the only one to say so.
The conversation shifts as they pry to get to know you. Penelope fires a million questions at you, and she's pushy about you answering. Apparently, she had tried to look you up, but you aren't active enough on your socials to give her much insight. She was firing questions at you a mile a minute, and you were just as honest as you needed to be. You were losing track of how many questions you'd answered in this, and sensing your tiredness, JJ slides in to your rescue.
"Penelope," She cuts her off mid question, "This isn't going to be the only time you see her," She gives that smile, the one does when things are tense. Or, when she's nervous. Or, when she's forcing herself to be polite, "Leave some mystery to her."
"Right, right," Penelope concedes, "I'm sorry. I've just waited so long to meet you, and now that I'm meeting you my excitement has not wound down because you're so stunning, and you two are stunning together, and JJ has been so happy. I've never seen JJ this happy, not ever since I've known her, and I didn't even realize she wasn't quite happy until I've seen her truly happy, and seeing her happy just makes me so happy," she leans forward, takes one of your hands in both of hers, "I am so happy that you make her so happy. Thank you for making her so happy."
Your eyes soften as her ramble comes to an end, and when you look at JJ, she's give you that puppy eyed look she only seems to fix on you. You steal a small kiss from her, and Reid averts his eyes out of respect while the rest of the table coos at the two of you like children do.
It makes you keep the kiss short. JJ rolls her eyes when she pulls away and looks back at them, but even so, there's a fondess to the action. She switches the conversation, though. Takes it to something more casual and pulls the focus away from you and y'all's relationship. Things amongst the group settle easy then. You guys have plenty of drinks and you have so much more fun than you expected. You didn't expect things to go badly, but you honestly hadn't expected to mesh with everyone so well.
By the end of the night, the only person good enough to drive is Derek, and you all find yourselves cramming up in his SUV, heading back to his place for an impromptu, drunken sleepover. With the exception of Matt, who has Kristy come and pick him up. When you back to yours and your Aunt Savannah's house, you give Reid, Tara, Luke and Penelope some blankets for them to set themselves up and pass out in the living room while you and JJ go curl up in each other's arms in your room.
"Your friends are nice," you murmur against her neck, drifting off to sleep in her arms.
JJ -- both too tired and too drunk to revel in the newly formed bond between her favorite people -- simply falls asleep right after you with a faint smile on her lips.

Walking to the group outside I didn’t understand how I should behave. These people are profiler’s. The abrupt actions of before could be justified as first time jitters but now, thirty minutes into the party I couldn’t walk away anymore. I had to face my fear, or rather face my crush.
“Here’s a cocktail made for you by a gentleman whose name I learned is Matt Simmons,” I said as I handed Lisa her drink by coming up in front of her on the couch. Across from me sat Phil and Penelope, the couch against the wall had Luke and Lisa, while Spencer sat on the couch opposite of Luke and Lisa.
“Ohh that's a nice sunset colour,” Lisa said excitedly at the orange and yellow hues of the drink.
“Reminds me of the sunsets I saw as a Lonely ranger,” Luke said with a dramatic seldom look on his face as he looked into the distance.
Penelope just stared at him with a Youre fucking crazy Newbie look, whilst Phil and Reid just laughed at his expression. Lisa however was genuinely interested in what more Luke had to say.
Slowly sipping my Cuba Libre I loved the cold drink against my warm flushed cheeks. I listened to the group chatters between the pairs but soon realised it was conversation amongst themselves. I had only the one human that makes me into a stuttering, blabbering, mess to talk to. Taking a bigger sip of my drink I stood up slowly and sat closer to Spencer. This got his attention and he just looked up at me with a smile.
Tumblr media
WHY DOES HE LOOK SO CUTE.
“I’m sorry about what I did before,” I apologised as I began seating.
“I have no idea why you’re apologising,” Spencer's words laced with confusion but his eyes held a warmth and concern that made me look deeper into them.
“You know, inside when I abruptly walked away saying I needed water and I most definitely zoned out, and I just didn’t want a rude behaviour like that to go by unapologetically.” I whispered out my words as my eyes left his and focused on my fingers that were playing with the rim of my half full glass.
“Hey I understand,” His comforting words whispered out his lips as his eyes raked my face, hoping to make eye contact. Giving him the opportunity to have my attention my face looked up with a smile.
“Meeting new people at times, especially friends, is a very anxious moment. You act different because you’re feeling different.” He concluded his words with a small smile on his lips.
Biting my lips a wider grin came on my face as I let a small chuckle pass my lips. Breaking eye contact for a moment I looked back at him.
“Thank you.” I simply said with my head sideways a bit and a genuine smile on my face.
I don't know how to explain it but his words had meaning to it that it's hard not to feel its effect on you. Our eyes still held each other's gaze as his face held a small comforting smile.
And now this is the part when he pulls you in for a kiss and says his stupid little girlfriend isn't his love but it's me and he was dating her to get over me.
I couldn’t help the stifled laughter that came out of my mouth. Covering my mouth with my hand I began to profusely apologise.
“I’m sorry I just remembered a memory from long ago,” I said, giggling at my thoughts and now at the memory.
“Is it a special one?” He asked a bit confused and a tad bit angry at me. Which I could understand. I began laughing like an idiot just at random.
“You tell me,” I said, laughing a bit. Taking in a deep breathe I steadied my laughter and looked back at him.
“I was 14 years old, in 10th grade and my mom was pregnant. Because of her pregnancy she would get these cravings of certain indian food from specific stores. So this particular day she got a severe craving for Chicken Biryani from the Indian store not too far from us. My father, mother, and my cousin sister who was living with us that year, picked me up from school. Now because of homework, obligations in clubs and home made my sleep schedule become really messed up, so this day I remember being awake till 3am and waking up at 6am to catch the 7am bus. Anyways in my sleep deprived state at the restaurant I made the mistake of drinking soda and since I would skip lunch to talk with my friends I was starving. I became so deliriously giddy like I saw this fork with three spikes and I went crazy. I began - I- oh..” I stopped with the story as my stomach began hurting from remembering that fork and the familiar delirious laughing feeling came back.
“Oh my god I can't, I just can’t.” I said covering my mouth as I continued laughing with tears in my eyes.
“I'm sorry. It's just I remembered how much the fork looked like a trident and I was imagining someone replacing the trident with the fork and how ridiculous it would be,” I said sniffling and wiping tears as I felt myself calming down.
“You don’t have to apologise. By any chance were you diagnosed with iron deficiency?” He asked casually.
Tumblr media
“The very next day in fact.” I stated, looking at him with amazement but also just to admire him.
He was speaking about how he concluded that, and I smiled and nodded and added comments but none that I could remember. At this moment I was studying him. His eyebrows would furrow as she would make eye contact when he is stating facts from memory. When his eyes evaded mine his eyebrows would become less furrowed but his forehead would be a bit scrunched as he continued citing facts from memory.
His eyes would hold a glee to them as he shared his knowledge as he purposely tried to keep a normal tone to his voice but the pace he talks is giving away his excitement. And when I would say I read that work from that article or met the scientist behind that article his eyes would widen in surprise. His mouth would form a smile and he would ask me if I liked the scientist, the work, and any question he didn't have an answer to.
I truly couldn't look away from him. He was just so perfect in my eyes. My breath mimicked his as my face couldn’t stop the smile, the laughter, the giggle that would come out of it due to his comments, jab, or him apologising for possibly offending me due to his strong words against a person's theory.
“Hey guys, it’s dinner time.” Jennifer came to announce as she held a bottle of water in her hand.
I still sat on the couch letting the two other couples pass us slowly. Then I stood up and so did Spencer Reid.
“After you,” He said politely with a small smile.
I knew I should see him as a friend and I shouldn't do anything that would make things weird between us but the emptied glass of Cuba Libre gave me liquor and sugar courage. As I was walking in front of him I made sure to talk a bit fast for enough distance for me to pull my stunt. Fortunately for me he turned back to grab his phone that fell from his pocket so I quickly had the opportunity to “twist” my ankle. Letting out a small “Oh fuck” before I “limped” to a stool close to me. I placed my “right” leg a bit high on the stool making sure to cover it in order to keep the scene as innocent as possible before my whorish display.
“Y/N are you okay?” Spencer asked as he planted his tall body behind me. Both of his hands unconsciously ghosting my hips.
“Yea- I think I just twisted it a bit. Let me check.” My wavering and “oh so in pain” voice said.
He didn’t say anything but as I began slowly removing the slit of my dress I revealed my thighs and my bare legs to hom. I could hear Spencer take a deep breath in and as I grabbed my thighs in an effort to “massage” away the “pain” he let it out at a wavering pace. My body bent forward a bit more to reach my ankle and as I was reaching for my ankles my upper turned back a bit to look at the sunken eyes of Dr. Spencer Reid.
“Why don’t you go ahead and sit? I’ll be in shortly.” I said with a small smile on my face. I let my fingers knead at my flesh, to leave small marks of my hand behind. I was shamelessly displaying how easily I can be marked and I knew he was shamefully enjoying it.
“It’s okay, if something goes wrong it’ll be handy to have a doctor near by.” His joking words left his mouth breathlessly. Clearing his throat he came beside me and squatted in a position to get a closer look of my ankles.
“From here I don’t see any visible bruising or anything serious,” I stated my observation as I allowed him to inspect my legs.
“I agree,” He said as his eyes trailed my legs before making contact with mine, “Why don’t you try walking just to make sure.” He said with a firm close lipped smile.
“Good Idea Doctor Reid.” I teased back with a smile that he so dashingly reciprocated.
As I removed my right leg from the stool I planted weight on it. Looking at him I nodded as if to say it doesn’t hurt. Then I took a step with my left leg and sighed. Looking back at the Spencer who now was standing up, his hands in his pocket his eyes focused on what I am assuming is my leg but it could’ve been my back, my ass, my figure to be honest. Knowing I had his attention made my mind spin with confidence that boosted my ego. I felt like I could control his thoughts, his behaviour towards me.
“It’s not hurting,” I said with a sheepish smile to hide my own maleficent thoughts.
Stepping forward with my right leg with confidence, my eyes clouded with ego embarrassingly didn't see the elevated step in front of me. The front of my half of my feet were on the tile but the other half were in the air, in slow motion I felt myself beginning to fall back. My mouth took in a huge gasp of air to subdue the panic that fueled my widened eyes. My body felt cold in that second as I was falling backwards. But a familiar warmth surrounded me.
Spencer had planted half his body behind me. His left hand held on to my clothed left hip. Whilst, his right hands went around my waist and gripped my thighs. His hands held onto the flesh that was exposed. His hands were warm. They felt calloused but soft at the same time. His hands couldn't go around my thighs completely but they did cover half of it effortlessly making me conclude that this man behind me is feeding into my big hand kink.
“Are you alright Doctor?” He whispered in my left ear, in a low and comforting voice. He placed his face right on my left shoulders as he crouched to come at level with my ears.
I knew I shouldn’t turn my face, I knew that if I did it could be awkward. But I couldn’t help myself. Slowly I turned myself a bit. My eyes lowered on purpose so I could study his face slowly to savour how handsome he is before I look into those deep coffee hued eyes. Those eyes that I stare into right now held so much care in them but their dilated pupil looked so feral. Like a pool of good sex that will make my hips bruised and my throat raspy from shouting out
“I- um- I think so.” I admitted as I let out a breathless giggle to show my surprise at this turnout and to the thought that was running in mind.
The very thoughts that made his hands on my naked thighs much more prominent. I could mentally picture where each one of his fingers are, how long they are, and how thick they are.
Imagine his fingers, that are so damn close to my freshly shaven and now wet cunt, beginning to rub me through this dresses thin material.
Imagine him rubbing my sweet swollen clit with his fingers, allowing the shivers of pleasure derived from that one spot travel up my spine. Making me whine, moan, and arch against his figure.
Imagine one of his long fingers sliding over a little bit more of fabric of the dress and a little bit of the fabric of my slutty panties before pushing in his long finger. Making me feel full.
Imagine, my back arched as his finger is curled and set in a pace to make me cum, the only mission they seem to know.
Imagine staring into his eyes as his hands crept closer and closer to that one spot except….
I didn't have to imagine it was happening right now. And it wasn't creeping closer, it was slipping away. Clearing his throat Spencer removed his fingers from my thighs and hips.
“Excuse me, I have to go call my girlfriend, she said she will be joining us for dinner so I am just going to notify her.” He spoke without looking at me as he was facing down looking at his phone as he texted and walked away from me at the same time.
Damn. Did I take it too far?
Not knowing how to react to this I decided to just go to dinner. The commotion of utensils and people chatting were my guide to this villa of a house. At the table people sat down respective to the name cards that were placed on the huge oak table. A group of three waitering staff was apparently hired and would serve us our dinner.
“Y/N over here,” Said the sweet voice of Penelope Garcia.
“Hi again,” I said as I took a sit between Penelope and Luke.
“Sorry I switched out our seats, you can have it back anytime you want though,” she said kindly.
“No it’s okay. It’ll give me a chance to judge this one.” I whispered to Penelope as I eyed Luke’s figure behind me.
“Wait so I’m being scrutinised?” Luke said in disbelief as he had heard what I was saying to Penelope.
“Clearly we need to work on respecting others' privacy.” I said with a fake tone of seriousness.
“Agreed.” Penelope popped her head in and said.
“Second, that.” Added on Matt.
“Oh stay out of it.” Groaned poor Luke at everyone ganging up on him.
A small fit of laughter spread around the table. As everyone basked at the serenity and a sense of comfort in the air. A feeling that was perfect. A feeling that resembled a calm before the storm. Something deep in me clearly said that this sense of comfort is just a distraction from the true reality.
“Hey, where’s Spence?” Asked Jennifer who was seated next to her husband and Matt’s wife. She spoke as she gestured the two empty seats across from me directly.
“We’re right here,” He said as he walked in with a woman in his arms.
“Hello Everyone.” A quiet but loud enough voice said.
“Maeve!” Exclaimed Emily, Jennifer, Penelope, and Krystall as they basically jumped out of their chairs to go greet the woman.
And there’s the storm.
A/N: HAPPY NEW YEAR MY WHORES! I LOVE YOU ALL FOR THE LOVE AND SUPPORT AND FOR THE REBLOGGING! And yes in this Maeve doesn't die. We are pretending the bullet missed her because she like yanked her head back and was able to get away from the creepy killer. And to clarify this will not be, I repeat will not be a cheating trope, it's more complicated than that.

“We have a few emails coming in for the manager position, do you want to check them out?”
You two are sitting on his kitchen counter like this is the most natural thing to do at two in the morning. Spencer has work the next morning but still insists that it’s fine and that he wants to keep you company. You think he still feels guilty about the fact that, if not for him and his weird connection to Cat, you would have never been put into this tricky of a position. So he makes up for it where he can– he brings dinner whenever he knows he’ll be home late because he knows you’ll be waiting for him to eat; he makes a mean cereal bowl in the morning whenever he has time; he leaves books he knows you are yet to read by the small table next to your armchair because that is now your armchair and he would never steal that away from you.
In your own efforts, you also try to make him feel a bit more comfortable with the reality of everything, and you don’t bug him much to go outside, anymore. You don’t call him all panicked and gasping for air whenever he goes on work trips either, instead choosing to spend those lonely days in the endless company of Penelope. Officer Kaper has gotten better and been cleared to work again, and having him with you whenever Spencer isn’t brings you some sort of comfort and guilt. This man had become a target thanks to you and suddenly, you don’t quite read the fantastical stories of princesses and their faithful knights. The way your stomach weights down whenever they eventually get hurt to protect the fairest lady of the land does not sit right with you anymore– you refuse to believe that romance is hurt and pain for one and comfort and safety for the other.
At this point two weeks had gone by without you even noticing. Suddenly, you jumped from day 9 to day 23 and with the month mark approaching, so is your need for answers. Cat has been silent ever since the attack on Officer Kaper’s house, and so is her partner. For a second, it’s almost like she’s teasing you, like she’s throwing a taste of freedom in your face only to later pull the carpet from right under your feet. Spencer must feel like this too, considering how jittery he has been lately. At this point, you know how to recognise the different gestures of those pretty hands, and the way he fidgets with his fingers while reading War and Peace yet again tells you that he is not, in fact, reading the book, but trying to read himself. You don’t quite understand him fully yet, and that is okay; Spencer has shown you that even if it takes time, he is worth waiting for.
You still don’t know what happened to him, weeks ago, when you two were discussing Josh. You still don’t know what made him choke on his own words or what had his body limp and stripped of energy in your arms, but the truth is that you don’t really care what it was. Not yet. For now, you are just happy that Spencer showed you a side of himself that you had never seen before, and that he has been less… overbearing about your job. Actually, he had been the one that told you to check your emails for applications, suggesting stating the interview process so that you can make a schedule to possibly go back to the store. “Are you serious?” You whispered to him, eyes wide and waiting for Derek to pop out from the kitchen shouting ha! Gotcha!
“Of course,” He smiled and nodded and the rest is history.
The chairs are so close together that your legs brushes against his every time you lean forward to squint at the computer, but at this point, you two don’t even notice it. Cuddling on the couch after a mentally taxing conversation had unlocked new heights for you two, and though he does miss the way your cheeks flushed red whenever your fingers brushed, he prefers how now you just smile, honest and bright, whenever he’s closer than he should be. You don’t know that, but Spencer thinks your spoiling him rotten with these smiles. In your defence, however, smiling at him is just the easiest thing in the world. “Okay, what do we think of this one? His name is–“
“No.”
Your head whips to look at him, eyes wide behind your glasses. “But I didn’t even finish my sentence!”
“There is a weird gap in his resume,” Spence points out with a smug smile. He likes showing off to you, you’ve noticed.
“I can ask him about it during the interview process! Spence, he used to work at–“
“Next.”
You know he won’t budge when he gives you that tight-lipped, dimples-showing smile of his. “My god, you are hard to please,” You grumble and poke him in the stomach with your elbow, already scrolling to the next email.
When you feel his arm falling onto the back of your chair, you lean back a little into his touch, humming to keep yourself awake. “I am not hard to please,” He says easily. “I just won’t accept you hiring mediocre men to do the job you’ve been doing flawlessly.”
The way he emphasises men makes you chuckle. “But a mediocre woman is okay?”
“A bit better,” He admits gruffly, and you laugh. “This one seems promising!”
“Give me time to read, Spencer!” You groan, leaning forward again and nodding while your eyes scan through each line. “Okay, she seems good, Mr. Picky. Studied English Literature, so she’ll obviously have some literary background, has previous experience managing bookshops and cafes, has dealt with stock and suppliers before…” The list goes on and on, and you write her name down on the notebook to your right. That’s where the names Penelope will be running a background check on go, per Spencer’s insistence.
“Wait a second,” Something about the name, so visual and palpable in your little notebook previously filled with facts and memories of Spencer, makes you frown. Why does it sound so familiar?
Abigail Harrison.
“What is it?” He hums, chin once again finding perch on your shoulder. Little by little, you start to think that that is where he belongs, leaning on you, relying on you. “Who is Abigail Harrison?”
“I don’t–“ But then you see it, the address on top of the resume and you hold your breath. “Abigail.”
“Abi– Wait, the new neighbour? That Abigail?” His arms go around you, and now you’re in an awkward angle, half falling off the chair, half leaning on him, but you don’t mind. What you do mind is the uncomfortable, suspicious feeling in your gut. “Oh. That’s fine.”
“You don’t think it’s a weird coincidence?” Turning to look at him, you bit your lip in unsureness.
“Not really– if anything, I think it’s a very logical series of events,” He shrugs and you feel it in your own body. “She clearly has the experience and is obviously looking for a job, so why not one that fits her as an employee and is just a five minute walk across the street?”
As if sensing your worries, Spencer moves, yet again doing the unpredictable and dropping a gentle kiss on your shoulder. Having one thing to worry about it not enough, apparently, so he gives you another one, and now you know for a fact you won’t be able to sleep any time soon. He’s been doing things like this lately, and you think it’s because he’s finally getting used to your presence next to him at almost all hours of the day. His phobia of germs seems to be pushed aside when it comes to your skin, and if he washes his hand right after letting you go, you don’t take it to heart; it’s just who he is. But with cheek kisses and forehead kisses starting a list, this is yet another one for you to tally up– shoulder kisses. All five stars, ten-out-of-ten-would-do-it-again, though you don’t really ask him for them. You just wait. Living with Spencer has taught you patience, amongst many other things, and for him you don’t mind exercising it to its fullest, excited for your list to grow even longer.
“Garcia already ran her name through the database,” He whispers in your ear, hands going up and down your arms in a gesture that tells you he knows you’re nervous. “She’s clean, sweetheart.”
This is new too.
Letting out a strangled noise at the changes that kept on coming, you nod, mind completely shifting focus. “Yeah, okay,” You breathe out, eyes slowly fighting to stay open and not because of the time. “I uh, I’ll reply to her and ask her to come in to the shop for an interview…”
“That sounds great, but it also sounds like it can be done tomorrow when you’re not almost falling asleep,” Oh, sweet, innocent Spencer. Before you can even protest, he shakes his head, smiling like he’s trying to hold it back. “We’re going to bed, Y/N. I have work tomorrow and now, so do you.”
Any and all protests fall disappear from your lips– the prospect of getting to go to work after only being able to keep the store’s website open actually has you excited enough to make you sleepy. The contradictory emotions will surely bit you in the ass when you actually lay down next to Spencer, but you don’t care. You get to open up the shop again and that alone is enough to make you squeak in glee, naked feet thumping through the wooden floor. He always bugs you to put on socks, afraid that you’ll get sick with the cold breeze that manages to push its way in despite the windows being shut, but you like feeling the cold on your soles. It always sends a little zap of life up your body and you enjoy it the same way kids enjoy hopping in the mud despite the mess– it makes you feel alive.
There is a rhythmic routine to how you and Spencer get ready for bed. He brushes his teeth behind you, and you usually wash your face first, so that while he does it, you can braid your hair ready for the night. At first, you didn’t really worry about that because you two did your best to stay in your respective corner of the bed. You tried putting a pillow between you too but after the first time you kicked it off of the bed, you never bring it to the room with you again. Then you tried just paying attention, but that made you lose a significant amount of sleep and you ended up cranky for days. Giving up and accepting that, like it or not, you will end up waking up in Spencer’s arms, legs tangled with his and mouth drooling a little on his shirt, had been the best thing to do to move forward. Now, you two don’t pretend that anything else will happen, and before you’re even asleep, he opens his arms with a grunt, your signal to scoot closer and enjoy your very own space heater of man. “Alright, alright, I’m here,” You mumbled, happy with the way your body is warm but your feet are cold. So cold, in fact, that the moment one brushes up against his, Spencer yelps.
“What the hell was that?” He gasps, eyes going wide in shock.
“What?” You ask, smiling mischievously.
It would be unfair to say that the fear from early in the days has disappeared. It hasn’t– you’re still scared. Sometimes, it tackles you like a football player, abruptly and with so much force that you’re left breathless and immobile for a few minutes. Other times, it creeps up behind you, and you have time to prepare yourself. Despite the sudden appearances, however, your fear has lost that constantness that it had before. It’s duller, to the point that at times it’s just not there at all. And you quite like it, everything considered… it gives you space to breathe. It also gives you space to be– not be anything specific, but just be. And the more you can be, the more your personality starts to come back, peeking through the curtains you had set between yourself and the world.
Spencer always knew you were a playful woman, but this just confirmed it. “Y/N, don’t you–AH! Oh my god, these are death machines! Put some socks on!”
“Never!” You shout before fully pushing your feet against his legs.
Laying there, feeling Spencer squirm underneath you and then going off on some random fact about why it is important to keep your feet warm, is when you remember.
You are a believer in silver linings.
And you believe Spencer might just be yours.
————————————
The shop looked exactly like you had left it, which made you happy and sad at the same time. Took you almost an hour to leave the house that morning, Spencer practically having to drag you away from the mirror with promises that “You look beautiful, Y/N.” Officer Kaper is waiting for you by the door when Spencer drops you off with a kiss to your cheek and hurried steps down the street.
From then on, it’s a frenzy of cleaning. You try to convince Officer Kaper– or Mike, as he told you to call him– that he should sit down and guard the door, but he’s having none of it and instead, carries the not so heavy boxes of brand new books that you ordered as soon as you got news you’d be coming back to work. This is exciting to you, this return to normal, but it also makes you somewhat anxious. Once all of this is resolved– and you’ve taken to thinking about it with the mindset that it is not if it will be resolved, but once it is resolved– what will happen to you and Spencer? Living with him has its perks and the biggest one is that you get to actually see him with some sort of frequency. You get to experience having him in your life instead of just someone who comes and goes as they want. If you go back home, even if just across the street, right above your store he visits everyday… will you still feel this connection you do right now? Will you still get forehead kisses, and sneaky touches of his hand, and his pinky hooking with yours when you pass by?
None of that matters, though, when you hear the bell ringing through the shop. A customer. “Hello!” You call out from the shelves, making your way to the front. A buzz of anxiousness runs through you, though you quickly put it out; there is a literal police office standing guard by the door. You are safe.
You are even safer when you see it’s Abigail, the downstairs neighbour.
“Hi! I’m a little early, I hope that’s alright?”
Oh god. With all the cleaning and organising, you lost track of time. “Oh gosh, yeah, of course!” You say, pulling your hair down from the mess on top of your hair and smoothing it down.
You want to make a good impression on her. Out of all four interviews you have today, you hate to admit that Abigail seems the most fit for the position. Her experience is almost immaculate and her immediate availability is almost too good to be true. In fact, Abigail as a whole, with her warm smile and welcoming aura, seems too good to be true. As much as you believe in silver linings, she just seems like a straight up miracle.
“Please, sit,” Pointing to the foldable chair by the corner of the counter, you smile. “We don’t really have a sitting area yet, but I’m working on it.”
“Oh don’t worry about it!” Abigail’s voice is bright and peppy, and you should like her. You do like her, actually, but even so, you can’t quite ignore the nagging feeling in your gut. “I also brought a copy of my resume in case you didn’t have mine readily available–“
“I have it here, but thank you!” So far she has been nothing but delightful, and to be honest, it’s almost like she is a missing puzzle. The way she fits in the store is almost weird, and maybe is the way she is dressed so similarly to you, or how she looks like someone who would manage a bookshop, all plaid and cardigans and pretty smiles.
Pretty.
Abigail is pretty and that’s when it downs on you that you feel a little jealous. You are not ugly by any means, but the idea that Spencer will go to your store only to look at another woman– a younger, prettier woman– has you holding your breath.
“Y/N? Are you alright?”
Snapping out of it, you blush in embarrassment. You’re being crazy and you know it. “Yeah! Sorry, my mind went somewhere else for a second. So uh, why don’t we start with you just telling me a little bit about yourself and what do you want to work here, I guess.” You sound as unsure as you feel, and you suddenly regret saying no to the list of questions Spencer offered to make you.
“Well, we’ve met briefly when I was moving into the building,” She giggles. “But my name is Abigail Harrison, recently moved to Washington D.C. from New York City–“
“I’m from New York!” You exclaim, big smile spreading as you finally place the familiar intonation in her voice.
“No way! Where? I was born and raised in Brooklyn!” And suddenly it all makes sense– her cool nerdiness, her extroverted nature, her ease to fit in. This girl is definitely from Williamsburg.
“Oh, I was raised in the West Village but then moved to uh, Upper East Side,” The memory of moving in with Joshua is an uncomfortable one and makes you immediately change the course of the conversation. Throughout this interaction, you have to remember to be nice, but also serious. You don’t want to give her the impression that this will be an easy job, specially not with how reluctant you already were with hiring someone. “So, why do you want to work here? Besides the close proximity, of course.”
“To be honest, I–“ And there is a pause. It’s not long nor weird, it just sounds like she’s thinking, but Spencer likes to point out your own pauses whenever you try to lie to him about your strategy during nightly backgammon, and it’s become a sort of a bad habit you’ve gotten from him. Squinting, you let her continue. “I just really like the store. I know this sounds a bit ridiculous, but I walk past here every morning, and every morning, I prayed that it would be open. Everything inside looked so… homey. So familiar. And I’ve worked with books my entire life, you know? I thought… it was fate.”
There is a redness in her cheeks that makes you squirm in your seat, nape of your neck suddenly feeling a little clammy. “Fate…” You mumble, nodding while looking down at the blank notebook on your lap. Right now, you are torn– you are trying to understand what is it about Abigail that makes you so hesitant while also fighting against your gut simply because the more she talks about her experience, the more you know she has to be the one.
“…and after almost five years as a manager, I’ve found that I have a really good method of keeping things in order,” She finishes, nodding eagerly for you to show her any reaction.
“That is really good to hear,” You gulp, getting your head back in place. “So just to reiterate, this would be a full time, part time position, of sorts. I would still come in some days in the week, and you would be acting manager whenever I am not here to oversee things. Whenever I am here though, you would be a very welcomed extra pair of hands and company. Believe it or not, we tend to get quite busy during lunch time and it was getting a bit too much to be here by myself.”
“So we’d still work together some days, right?” Her excitement is so clear in her voice that even Officer Kaper turns to pay more attention to you two. “Like, we’d still get to be a uh, a team?”
“Of course,” You say, nodding stiffly and looking at the clock. “I love working in a collaborative environment and I wouldn’t leave you alone in a new job straight away. We’ll start with training days and go from there.”
“That sounds incredible!”
“Yeah…” Looking at Mike– you are doing your best to abide by his wishes and call him by his first name– he gives you a little nod of recognition. “Anyways, do you have any questions for me?” When she shakes her head, you get up and offer her a hand to shake. “I’ll be making a decision by today end of day. I have a couple of other people to interview, but I’ll let you know either way.”
Is it just you or is her hand lingering a little?
“If you don’t call me, I know where to find you,” She says, her little laughter giving out the fact that this is supposed to be a joke. But you don’t laugh. And neither does the armed policeman by your door.
“Ha ha,” You say, trying your best to be nice regardless. “That you do!”
“Your boyfriend is lucky to have you, I bet he gets lots of books for free,” Abigail is a chatterbox, that much is clear, and with every try for a conversation, the more you feel like she’s just digging for gossip. For a minute, you actually think you are back in high school.
“Wha–“
“Or is that not your boyfriend?”
You don’t really know what to do, and it shows. Which is why you’re not surprised at all when Officer Kaper, your one and only hero, steps in. “Sorry to ask, ma’am, I should’ve said something before, but would you mind me checking your ID? We are conducting a security check system for the businesses in this area, there has been a rise in robberies lately and this is just for precaution.”
“Oh my! Of course,” After that, it doesn’t take long for her leave.
There is not even a minute of silence until a customer walks in and you have to slap that fake smile in your face again. The hair on the back of your neck is standing up in a way that makes you a bit too aware of everything, and that, in turn, makes your heart skip a beat. Nervously glancing at Mike, you keep trying to remind yourself that you are safe, that you have someone to protect you. It’s hard to focus on your work when Spencer’s voice echoes in your head making up a list of everything that could go wrong. Your job is very open to the general public. People can easily see inside. You don’t know what they have in their bags. His habit of mouthing off whatever comes to mind is not coming back to bite you in the ass.
“You have a boyfriend?” Officer Kaper’s questions snaps you back to reality.
“Huh? Oh! No!” Shaking your head, you awkwardly lean over the counter to try and ignore the sure blush on your cheeks. “She’s talking about Spencer.”
“She knows Doctor Reid?” It’s clear from his tone that this arises some suspicion in him.
“She just moved into the building and we met her when we were coming out for a second,” You shrug. You don’t want to feed your panic and you also don’t want to leave the man who got injured because of you on edge and scared. Abigail is just a bit taller than you and definitely stronger, with the body of someone who seems to care about her healthy appearance, while you… well, you prefer sitting on your armchair all afternoon with a cup of coffee and a book in your hands. A bit of a cliche, yes, but your life overall was a bit of a cliche, if you think too hard about it. “Spence thought it was better to let her believe whatever.”
“Hm, I’m sure he did,” Mike said with a dramatic wink, wiggling his brows in that suggestive way that makes you chuckle so desperately that he has a hard time not laughing at your reaction. “You know, I think Doctor Reid has a crush on you.”
“Ex-Excuse me?” You sputter out, eyes wide at how easy it is for this man to voice something that has been swimming in your head so insistently.
Spencer having a crush on you is not that wild of a thought, when you think about it objectively. It’s the Proximity Principle. You read about it once back when you were in college and it’s kind of stuck– people are more likely to form close relationships with other people they spend significant amount of time with. Unfortunately, though, you also know that crushes are also dependant on a certain fantastical factor, something that allows humans to project a lot of their needs onto the one that holds their affections. Predicting Spencer’s needs is actually not hard either, and the more he tells you about himself, the more your heart break for the boy that lives inside that man; the one that is afraid of being abandoned, the one that misses his mother dearly, the one sees a family in the coworkers he spends so much time with. You see how you can fulfil this role for him, you’re not blind nor stupid. His smile gives him away, to be very honest, with how bright and big it gets when he notices you waiting for him to get home, sitting in your armchair, reading the book he left for you next to it. Or how he tries to hold it back, that gorgeous, beautiful smile, when he hears you calling his name, all whiny and shy at the same time, to ask him something so ridiculous and out of pocket that he can’t do anything but laugh.
You are the sense of belonging he never had.
The same way that he is the sense of consistency you’ve always craved. Though in your case, you know that he is so much more than that.
In his… well, you will never know until you ask.
And my god, you’re not ready to ask.
“Yeah, a crush,” Officer Kaper shrugs, walking to the counter and smiling like a kid saying something naughty. “He used to talk about you all the time, before all this. The pretty bookseller.”
“Now you’re just enjoying making me squirm,” You say, squinting at him despite how his words make your heart race.
“Maybe I am,” He jokes. “But I’m serious! You two are obviously into each other… right?”
“Officer–“
“Mike, please!”
“Mike,” You sigh with an attitude, rolling your eyes in exasperation. “Are you trying to profile me?”
His silence is enough of an answer to make you gasp.
“It’s not like that–“
“Mike, do you want to be a BAU profiler?!” The way you whisper makes all of this feel like a big secret ever. Your body is leaning over to try and get closer to him, and you’re so excited about knowing this that it makes you bounce a little in your feet. “Why didn’t you say something before? I’m sure Spence would help! You can ask him all the questions and–“
“I already too the FBI entrance exam once and didn’t get in,” He interrupts you with such abruptness that something in the air shifts. This is not fun anymore. It’s tense. “It’s fine. I’m happy doing my part here with the MPD.”
“You are,” You nod. “You really are. Thank you.”
That is the last of the small talk for the day, the next interviewee coming in before you can say another peep.
————————————
“Did you have a good time at the store today?”
This is the first time that you are not the one doing the waiting. Or the cooking. Or– “Did you clean?” You ask, a bit shocked with how spotless the entire place looks even though the air smells like tomato sauce and… something else?
“Why do you say this as something so hard to believe?” Spencer is baffled at your expression, laughing incredulously. “I live here! This is my apartment! I’ve been living by myself since I was 18!”
“I just never seen you clean!” You defend yourself with a lighthearted laughter.
“I’m thirty years old!”
“That just means you’re old,” And you two fall back to the usual teasings while you walk around the living room, dropping your coat and bag on the couch, and moving into the kitchen to help with whatever you can. “Oh my! And you even cooked! Careful Spence, you’re spoiling me… I might just want you to make me dinner everyday from now on.”
Spencer just shrugs with that little shy smile playing on his lips. “I could get used to spoiling you…”
“I could get used to being spoiled,” You mumble, eyes unwavering from his. Letting the tension of the moment grow, you push your hair behind your ears. “Can I help with anything?”
“Not really, I made sure to start it really so it would be ready when you came home,” He says and turns into a ball of excitement that is all limbs and fast words. You love him like this and so you listen, like you’ve been yearning to do all day. He tells you that this is a recipe that Rossi taught him a while ago, and the wine is the exact same one he recommended back then, and just as he says, when you look closely to the busy workspace on the kitchen isle, there they are– two glasses half-full. In a very Spence fashion, he goes on and on about the exactness of the ingredients and how the whole idea that cooking is about ‘feeling it’ is kind of stupid, but the more he talks, the more breathless you find yourself.
There is wine.
There are entrees, and it looks like Spencer did his due diligence, buying your favourite crackers from the deli nearby.
There are main dishes, sides, dessert; and you guess it is some sort of a tiramisu, catching the smudges of chocolate powder and coffee by the sink.
And then there is Spencer. There is Spencer back home early. Spencer wearing his favourite purple sweater. Spencer with his combed hair. Spencer without his phone? Now you are suspicious, looking around with a confused frown on your face.
“Is everything okay?”
“Where is your phone?” His satchel is also not where he usually leaves it, gone from it’s perch by the door.
“My phone?” He asks, sounding as confused as you. “Why do you need my phone?”
“I don’t, I just never seen you without it.”
“Oh,” That makes him laugh. “I don’t need it today.”
“Why not?”
“Curiosity killed the cat, Y/N,” Spencer catches you by the shoulder and brings you back to the set dinner. “Just sit down and enjoy this. We finally have some time to spend together.”
“You would never let anything kill me,” You say so easily that it can’t be anything else other than the truth. “Why don’t you need your phone?”
He snorts and turns to mix something in one of his many pans. “Because Hotch and Rossi forbade the team to call me tonight. Derek said he’d be on call instead.”
“That’s awfully nice of Mister Muscles,” You comment offhandedly and there is something about the way you notice Spencer tensing a little that makes your smirk.
“He has a girlfriend, you know.”
“Oh, I know– I heard it all from his baby girl, who is not his girlfriend, but is a big fan of that couple,” You say, happily smiling while munching on a cracker. “Why?”
“Just checking if you knew. A lot of girls are usually… taken… by Derek’s looks and charms, but he’s off the market now. I think Savannah is here to stay.”
Crinkling your nose at the though of dating Agent Derek Morgan, you quickly shake your head. “God, no, I’m not– No. I mean, don’t get me wrong, he is objectively handsome, but he’s not my type.”
“Are we talking about the same Derek Morgan?” He scoffs without turning to you. “He is everyone’s type…”
“Not mine,” You repeat, silently getting up from where you sway your feet. With muted steps, you walk around the kitchen isle to stand behind him, fidgeting with your hands in a moment of unsureness.
Maybe you are reading this wrong. Not every man that does a nice gesture is interested in you, you know that mainly because you never really believe people are interested in you at all, but it’s getting progressively hard to not look at everything he had done for you and not think it is a date.
Before you can overthink this, Spencer is moving backwards. “Oh? What is your type, then– oh fuck!” Your arms go around his waist as soon as he bumps into you, and you don’t let him squirm away, even though he tries. “Y/N, wha-what are you doing…?”
Gently, you let your head fall onto his back, forehead pressing close to his nape. Silence reigns until you are ready to speak, but Spencer waits, tense and oh so patient. “Spencer,” You whisper with your broken voice, nerves getting the best of you and making you shake like a chihuahua. “Spencer, is this–“
Sweet as ever, his hand moves from the counter, where his knuckles are white with how hard he grips it, to a slow touch to your hand. Brushing his fingers overs your skin, he whispers back. “Is this what?”
“Spencer is this a…” Why can’t you bring yourself to say it?
Around you, there is noise. You hear the neighbours upstairs, the click-clack of their shoes echoing until they are gone. You hear the heater pipes reading themselves to work through the night once again. You hear the food in front of you two bubbling and sizzling. And my god, do you hear him… you hear his heart, beating, racing, so strong and fast, that you smile to yourself. This is all Spencer– every noise, every shake, every thump and thud of that amazing, loving heart of his.
“It is.”
Your arms squeeze around him in shock. “I didn’t even say it.”
“By now, you should know you don’t have to,” The soft cadence of his perfect pronunciation tells you that he is feeling confident and calm, and you bask in it for a second or two. Until he hits you with the million dollar question. “If Morgan is not your type, who is?”
“I want to say it, though.”
“Who is your type?”
It’s a weird battle of stubbornness between you two, but you don’t mind. You would fight this war forever, if it meant this– feeling him alive and breathing and laughing. “Let me say it,” You ask, smiling coyly even though he can’t see it. “Please.” His adorable little laughter sends a wave of ripples down his back and you press your face closer to feel it. “Say it then.”
“Spencer Reid, is this a date?”
“I was hoping it would be,” He says and pauses. “Y/N Y/L/N, am I your type?”
“I don’t really have a type,” You say slowly, pulling back a little to nudge him to turn around. You only smile when you see his eyes– those curious, curious eyes– that constantly look for answers for his questions. Sometimes, you don’t have answers, but he looks for them anyways. First in one, then the other. Spencer looks at you carefully, slowly, like you are something worth committing to that memory of his by the detail. Like he wants to remember you even when he closes his eyes. You see it, how you make him feel like he belongs, with your open smiles and blinking eyes. But you also see, for the first time, how you are also so much more. “But if I did, it would be you.”
You are a believer in silver linings.
And yes, Spencer might just be yours… specially with the way his lips feel against yours.

Heyyy if you’d be down could you write a Luke Alvez x flirty!male!reader where the readers Matt’s little brother? (Adopted) He comes into the office to surprise Matt but gets distracted by Luke and just ends up flirting with him the entire time like he’s very straightforward and eventually Matt finds them in a very awkward position in the break room or smth and is just like “are you f_ serious?”💀 feel free to deny and take your time thanks😌
The 'my best friend and my brother' thing was influenced by Friends by the way lol, don't wanna get sued.
Also, this is a- I don't even know what this is. And I can't flirt like to top it all off. So I'd like to formally apologise lmao
One more thing, feel free to keep the Matt Simmons brother reader coming I love the idea!
"Hey, Matt, surprise-" You pause, seeing a (rather beautiful) man leaning over a desk to grab a file. Although you can't really see his face, but he has a beautiful back, broad shoulders, and his hair looks good. You smirk slightly, letting your eyes drift down (with no attempt to hide it).
When he turns around, your breath hitches. He's stunning. You smile brightly, "Hi, I'm (Y/N)."
"Luke," Even his name is beautiful. You shake hands, finding yourself smiling as you do so.
"Beautiful name."
"I was about to say the same to you." His reply is instant. You don't respond, the pair of you maintaining eye contact with smirks painted on your face.
"(Y/N)?"
You don't even look at your brother as you reply, too busy staring at the man in front of you, Luke. Such a pretty name, fits him nicely. "Not now, Matt." You wave him off - literally.
"Are you fucking serious?" Matt groans, throwing his head back, "(Y/N), you hoe-"
"Matt, I'm talking,"
"No, you're staring." Matt corrects. When you don't reply, Matt huffs, turning around and making his way back to his desk - more specifically, his phone to text Kristy.
'(Y/N)'s ignoring me and flirting with Luke'
'Is Luke flirting back?'
'I'm too scared to find out'
'Baby.'
'Hey!'
'I need the gossip so we can bully him later'
'I'll gather the gossip, don't worry!'
With a sigh, Matt placed his phone in his pocket and looked up, seeing both you and Luke gone. The Devil works hard, but you work harder, apparently. Standing up, he makes his way to the breakroom, knowing that Luke was talking about getting a cup of coffee earlier.
The moment he walks in, he wishes he could bleach the memory from his eyes. You and Luke's faces are inches apart, the pair of you leaning in.
"Please don't." Matt mumbles.
"Sorry Matty," You grin, Matt groans.
"Don't call me Matty,"
"Matty?" Luke asks, confused.
"He's my brother," Matt replies, Luke turns to you in shock and you shrug in response.
"Obviously I got the good looks," Luke smirks, letting his eyes linger over you for a moment, you wink.
"For the love of God, (Y/N)!" Matt exclaims, walking out of the room, "Stop flirting with my coworker!"
"I can't help it, he's pretty!" You argue, following him out. Luke stood by the counter, unsure of what exactly he was supposed to do. "And he flirted back!"
Luke froze when Matt turned to him with a glare. "I expect better from you," He states, shaking his head.
"Don't you think you're overreacting just a bit?" You argue, folding your arms.
"My best friend and my brother!" Matt exclaims, pointing at the pair of you. "My best friend and my brother!" There was a small pause before he started to smile, "My best friend and my brother!"

What Lurks Within, Pt. 3
Author's Note: I know this is only my first series, but I'm having soooo much fun with it. This section offers some more background on Y/N's past with the team. If you love lore, this is for you!
Content: When the team gets a lead from the local department's tech analyst, they're forced to look into a questionable detective with a long history of complaints against him. Before they can talk to him, they've got to get him to the precinct, triggering some hard memories from the past as old fears reemerge.
Warnings: Mentions of harassment/sexism in the workplace, brief mentions of Cat Adams and Scratch, mentions of past trauma, established relationship... I think that's pretty much it!
Tumblr media
After the detective stormed out of the precinct, the team slowly shuffled out of the conference room into the main bullpen. The young tech worker, evidently named Richie, bent over his shattered monitor. “My poor screen,” he mumbled, bending down to pick up a shard of glass on the floor.
“Richie,” I said, “I’m Agent L/N with the BAU. I’d like to know what all that was about.” I feigned ignorance. I wanted to hear it from Richie’s perspective, and I didn’t want him to know Whittenden had already discussed the matter with Spencer and I.
Richie sighed, standing up straight and rubbing the back of his neck nervously. “You see, when I get files from my bosses, I don’t read them, let alone open them. I just sent them on to whatever department they’re meant for.” I nodded in response, and Richie continued. “The detective thinks I messed with his files, but I didn’t! I swear! I have no reason to…” Richie trailed off, getting distracted by his broken monitor littered over the office carpet. “I can’t believe he did that.”
“Do you know anyone who would have a reason to alter Whittendon’s files?” Emily asked, making her way to the front of the group standing in the conference room doorway.
Richie shook his head. “Look, I’m just the tech guy. I send emails and fix computers. I don’t get involved in all the office drama and crime stuff.” Emily and I made brief eye contact. How can you avoid the “crime stuff” while working in a police department?
“Anyway, I have a hell of a mess to clean up now… If you’ll excuse me…” Richie bent down to the floor, picking up shards of shattered monitor and trying to find any missing pieces that had gone askew on the floor. I sighed at the next dead lead. I made my way back to the team, and just as I started to rejoin the team in the conference room, Richie’s voice came from behind me. “Agent L/N?”
“Yeah, Richie?” I asked, turning around to face him.
“You didn’t hear this from me, but I know Detective Andrews has been after Whittenson’s job for months,” Richie shifted nervously on his feet, looking around the office with paranoia evident in his eyes.
I narrowed my eyes, and nodded. “Thank you, Richie. We’ll look into that.” So much for never partaking in water-cooler gossip. The young man nodded, continuing to pick up pieces of the monitor scattered on the floor.
I rejoined the team in the conference room, shutting the door behind me once again. “Did you guys hear that?” I asked.
“I did,” said Emily, “I’m getting Garcia on the phone right now.” Clicking her contact and turning her phone on speaker, Emily set her phone in the middle of the table. After two rings, a bubbly voice came over the other line.
“Hello, my pretties. How is Denver?” Penelope said. I could almost hear the smile on her lips, and I felt a small smile cross my own face.
“It’s okay, Garcia. We need your help,” Emily answered.
There was a moment of silence as I heard Garcia click around on her computer before she spoke again, “I am at your service, my fine-feathered FBI friends. Tell me what you need to do.”
Emily spoke again, “We need details on a Detective Andrews at the Denver Police Department, preferably anything to do with a recent promotion that he may have missed out on.” I heard Penelope clicking away on her computer.
“Uh-huh… anything else?” Penelope asked.
“Not for now. Have you found anything off the bat?” Emily questioned. She crossed her arms in front of her, staring intently at the cell phone. Spencer sat at the head of the table, leg tapping in anticipation.
“Sending it to your tablets now,” Penelope said. We all heard our tablets buzz from their respective positions on the conference room’s large table. Reaching forward, I opened the file Penelope had sent. A headline caught my attention first: “Detective Ryan Whittendon named Head Homicide Detective for Denver P.D.” I scanned the article quickly, looking for anything about Detective Andrews, when a line of text caught my eye:
“The decision for who would take over as Head Detective was a struggle. The Department was forced to choose between Whittendon, who has served with the Department for 3 years, and Jason Andrews, who has been with the Department for nearly 15 years. The Department made its decision based on success rates of case-closed and input from other office employees.”
“Yikes,” I heard Spencer mumble. He set his tablet down, scanning the faces of our other team members.
“No kidding,” said Rossi, “working here for 15 years and getting passed over for the newbie… I bet that didn’t go over well.”
“So what does this mean?” Luke asked, “Is this guy our unsub?”
“I don’t know about that,” I piped up. “With over fifteen years in law enforcement, becoming a serial killer would require a major personality change.” Matt and Spencer nodded in agreement.
I saw Rossi shrug. “You’d be surprised what people would do when they feel unappreciated. They feel unseen, and they lash out in any way they can to be seen,” he said.
“Regardless,” Emily stepped in, “we need to meet with Jason Andrews immediately. Garcia, do you have his home address available?”
“Sending it to you now,” Penelope said again. “Be safe, my friends.” With that, Penelope’s end of the line went dead. Our tablets buzzed once again, this time with Andrews’ address.
“Okay, here’s how we’re going to do this.” Emily paced around the room, formulating a plan. “Luke and Matt, you’re going to go pick up Jason Andrews. Bring him here and get him situated in an interview room. Spencer and Y/N, I want you to follow behind them as a back up team in case things get ugly when they try to bring Andrews in.” “You’ve got it, boss,” Luke said. He rose to his feet, as Matt followed suit. The two of them headed out the conference room door and exited the precinct. Spencer backed his seat away from the table, standing up and heading for the conference room door.
“Y/N,” he said, “are you coming?” I stared straight ahead of me, not quite making out what he said. I had an uneasy feeling growing in my stomach. I was never one to be overly superstitious, but I did believe in my instinct, and I was almost never wrong.
“I don’t know about this, Emily,” I said. She furrowed her brow, looking at me with concern. I was never one to question her decisions or turn down the chance to chase after a bad guy.
“What’s wrong, L/N?” she asked, coming to rest a hand on my shoulder.
“I just… I don’t know. I just have a bad feeling.” I felt Emily’s eyes rake over me before she looked at Spencer. The two made eye contact before they both looked back at me. “Y/N,” Spencer said again, leaning down so that we were eye level. “Nothing bad is going to happen. We’re just going to pick this guy up and bring him back here so we can talk to him.” The logical part of my brain knew he was right. The guy was a current police detective, surely there was no danger in that.
“I- I’m sorry,” I said, “I don’t know what’s come over me.” I stood from my seat. “Excuse me, I’m going to use the restroom before we go.” I exited the conference room without waiting for either of them to reply, brushing past Spencer and making quick work of the long hallway to the bathroom. I slipped in the door, and found myself staring deep into my own eyes. The reflection in the mirror seemed so foreign, so distant.
I took deep breaths, collecting myself and drying my eyes with a paper towel before tears started to drip out of my eyes. After a couple more seconds of solitude, I left the bathroom, walking slowly back towards the conference room. The door was still cracked open, and I could hear muffled voices inside.
“I’m just worried about her. You know she isn’t fully over everything that happened, Spencer,” Emily’s voice spoke in a hushed volume. I creased my brow. Were they talking about me?
I heard Spencer sigh, followed by a long silence before he replied. “The whole thing messed us all up pretty bad. She’s better, just like we’re all doing better,” he said. The whole thing… Cat… Scratch… part of my life that felt like a pure hell.
Emily spoke again, interrupting my thoughts, “I know, Spencer. You went through a lot, I went through a lot, but you have to acknowledge that she went through her own unique trauma as well.” You mean being psychologically tortured by a maniac before going through the physical trauma of a life-altering car accident? What’s unique about that?
“She’d only been a team member for six months when the two of you started dating. She’d only been here for a year when Cat forced her into that interrogation room and made her endure the whole night with you. Within hours of that, she was in that awful car crash with the rest of us…” Silence took over once more. “All I’m saying is, I know it’s been a few months since then, but those invisible wounds don’t heal in a few months. You should know that better than anyone.”
A long pause filled the room. I held my breath and kept silent outside the door, waiting for what would be spoken next. “Look,” Spencer broke the silence, “I know what she went through was horrendous and unfair. I think about it every day-” I heard his voice break a bit, bringing tears to my eyes once again. I heard him draw in a shaky breath before continuing, “But she is strong, and sidelining her is not going to make it any better. That’s what I do know.”
I decided it was time to stop eavesdropping and to stop letting other people decide my fate. I stepped forward, pushing open the door. I took in Spencer’s glassy eyes, and Emily’s grip on the back of a conference room chair before he spoke. “Y/N, how long have you been out there?” he asked.
“Long enough,” I gave a shy smile, a result of my embarrassment for having admitted to the eavesdropping. “Look guys,” I said, swapping my gaze back and forth between the two of them, “none of this is ever going to be easy for me. This past year has been a lot, but I’m moving forward. We all are, like Spencer said.”
Emily let out an audible breath. “What I’m saying,” I started again, “is that Spencer is right. Sidelining me isn’t going to help me get any better. I know I have my weak moments, but I always come back. I just did, you see.” I gestured to the bathroom before gesturing to the conference room, “I always come back.”
Spencer moved over to my side of the table. He reached out his hand, taking mine and offering a gentle squeeze as his show of support. “Now,” he said, “are we ready to go?” He asked it so quietly, as if he was afraid any force in his voice would break me to pieces. “I’m ready,” I said quietly, “it’s going to be fine.”
“It’s going to be fine,” he echoed. I held his hand all the way out of the precinct to where Matt and Luke sat in their running SUV.
“Where have you two lovebirds been?” Matt asked from the driver’s seat after rolling down his window.
“I had to use the bathroom, my bad!” I shouted back while jogging over to the passenger side of the second SUV. Spencer climbed in the driver’s seat while I slid into the passenger seat. Buckling our seatbelts, Spencer gave Matt a thumbs-up. Matt drove off, and we followed close behind.
The ride was quiet for the first minute or so, but I could see Spencer shifting uncomfortably in his seat. “What’s wrong, Spence?” I asked, examining the way his hands fidgeted on the wheel.
He sighed. “I’m sorry if anything I said to Emily upset you,” he said apologetically. “I know we don’t like to talk about the things that happened. I just didn’t want her to bring it up in front of you and make you feel-”
You held a hand up, stopping him from saying more. “You’re right, Spencer. We don’t like to talk about it. Maybe someday we will, but for now, let’s just keep doing what we’re doing.” You offered him a small smile, a way of letting him know that you were okay. He didn’t say anything else, he just nodded, keeping his eyes on the road. You could tell that something else was bothering him, but you decided not to push the subject more. One of these days we’ll get there.
The next ten minutes passed quickly as you pulled on to a quiet suburban street, Matt and Luke in the lead. Your pager buzzed and Matt’s voice echoed throughout the SUV. “Matt to Y/N, do you copy?”
“Copy, we’ve got you,” I replied. Matt and Luke brought the car to a stop in front of Andrews’ house. Spencer and I stayed parked a few houses back, watching to see if any back up would be needed. Luke jumped out of the car first, cautiously approaching the front step of the large brick house. They had no reason to believe Andrews was a real threat, but it was better to be safe than sorry.
Matt followed a few steps behind, quickly hopping up the porch’s front steps, keeping a hand on his holstered weapon. It was nearing six in the morning as Luke knocked on the door, “Jason Andrews, FBI!”
Spencer and I watched in anticipation as to what would happen next. I froze as Luke knocked again. I listened over my radio as Luke’s voice rang out again, “Jason Andrews, we need to talk to you!” Suddenly, the front door swung open. A forty-something year old man in a robe stepped out on the front step with a cup of coffee in his hand.
“Who the hell are you, and why are you on my porch at six in the morning?” Andrews asked, voice low and eyebrows raised in confusion. “My wife and kid are upstairs, keep it down.” I saw Matt and Luke’s shoulders release their tension.
“We need you to come with us to the precinct to talk. It’s urgent.” Matt said.
“That’s fine, just let me get dressed first,” Andrews turned back into the house as Luke and Matt waited on the porch. I let out a sigh of relief.
“Oh, thank God,” I said. That wasn’t nearly as painful as I thought it was going to be.
Spencer let out a quiet chuckle as Andrews stepped back out onto the porch in a full suit, climbing in the SUV with Matt and Luke. “See,” he said, “I told you there wasn’t anything to worry about this time.”
This time… The words echoed in my mind, sending the same sickening feeling to my stomach. I didn’t respond as Spencer pulled away from the curb, following Matt and Luke back to the precinct
*  *  *
We returned to the local police department, where Luke and Matt left Andrews in an interrogation room before coming to join the rest of the team. We all sat in the conference room once again, blinds shut and door locked, contemplating our next move.
“Okay,” Emily said, “I need your thoughts here, team. Who's going to interview him?” We all exchanged glances.
Matt cleared his throat, “Seeing as how he did pretty well with Luke and I picking him up, I just figured we’d be on it.” Luke shrugged in response, taking a sip of his coffee.
“I originally thought that, too,” Emily said, standing up from her spot at the table and reaching for a file she’d discarded on a shelf nearby. “That was until I read Andrews’ file.” I felt my eyebrows raise involuntarily. Reading someone’s file was a dangerous game to play, you never knew what you might find.
“I wondered why Andrews didn’t win the popularity contest that went into becoming Head Homicide Detective,” Emily explained, as she flipped through pages, “but then I read this.” She sat a piece of paper in front of JJ, who began to read out loud.
“Complaints of harassment against women: twenty-seven,” JJ cringed. “Good lord, how does this guy still work here?”
“So, Andrews is a raging sexist,” Luke said.
Emily nodded. “Exactly, which is why we need a woman in the interrogation room.” JJ and I exchanged looks, as if to say ‘not it.’ “It will throw him off his game. He won’t be able to focus on lying if he’s focused on being a-”
“A douchebag?” Rossi finished for her. Emily nodded quickly. “Well,” Rossi started again, “who's it going to be?”
Matt chimed in again, “Why not send Y/N in? She’s quite a bit younger, I bet he’ll notice that too.” I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. I often forgot about my age in relation to this group. Sure, I was only twenty-five and Matt had a point, but that didn’t make me love the idea any more.
Spencer noticed my discomfort, “Why Y/N? JJ is more than capable.” I felt JJ’s eyes on me, as well as Rossi’s and Emily’s. I did not want to let anyone down, especially after the conversation I’d overheard between Spencer and Emily earlier in the morning.
“No, Spence,” I said, rising from my seat and moving behind his chair. “I’m okay with it. I’ll go in with Luke, we can handle it together.” I tried to reassure him by placing my hands on his shoulders, but Spencer did not seem to relax under my touch.
“Great,” Emily said, “I’m glad to hear it.” She handed Luke the file on Andrews to flip through before turning to me. “Don’t let him get the better of you. He’s going to be a jerk and I want you play along with him. Each time you do, you’ll be loosening his lips even more.”
She gave me a reassuring smile. I nodded, understanding what she wanted from me. Besides, I’ve been locked in interrogation rooms with worse people before.
To be continued!

late night phone calls: Matt Simmons
Matt Simmons x female!Reader (Rossi’s daughter)
WORD COUNT: 2,136
WARNINGS: tw: mentions of Scratch
SUMMERY: Based off of 13x01, and how I see the events of it happening between Matt Simmons, and his fiancé Y/N Rossi that night
A/N: so just a little heads up: yes, this character’s father is the david rossi AND the communications liaison for the team. no, i do not have her mother being married or even divorced to david. she (and her twin brother) are byproducts of a one night stand between their parents, and the two had shared custody of them. ((i am thinking of making this a series, so if you like this please comment or message me saying i should continue this))
Tumblr media
Late night phone calls during the night were never the best to happen, especially because it wasn’t from either of the two people sleeping in the bed together. Y/N Rossi had recently just started her maternity leave, and the short hours of sleep had just started since there was a newborn baby in the home. It seemed like the little baby girl in the house could wake up to a pin dropping on the floor. It also didn’t help that their three-year-old son liked to wake them up early in the morning as well. So, when Matt and Y/N heard one of their phone’s ringing, the two immediately shot up from their positions on their bed, and leaned over to the nightstand to see which one of them was getting the call. When Y/N looked at her screen though, it showed nothing but some Facebook and Instagram notifications.
“Simmons here.” Was what Y/N heard from the other side of the bed. She was thankful that it wasn’t her own phone call. With the baby still trying to get a sleeping schedule, the poor woman was exhausted.
“Hey-hey! Penelope calm down, repeat what you said but slower.” Matt repeated as all he heard on the other line was just gibberish. Penelope finally calmed down on the other side of the line what was going on. Scratch was back and six team members, including his future father-in-law, signals were all offline. Matt was the one member that wasn’t on the BAU to know about all the current information on Scratch. They choose him since he would be someone that wouldn’t be with the team incase Scratch attacked, and Penelope would be able to call to help with the case and actually know what was happening. “Alright, I’ll be at the office as fast as I can.” Matt said as he swung his legs over his side of the bed and started to head for the closet to put some actual cloth on, instead of the boxers he was wearing.
With the lights and the movement that happening, Y/N sat up from the bed and looked over at her fiancé. “What’s going on? Why are you getting dressed?” She asked as she sat up in bed, turning her lamp on as she looked over at Matt getting dressed.
“Garcia called me; she needs me to come in to help her.” Matt told her as he looked over at her as he threw one of his shirts on before grabbing a button up to put on over the shirt.
“Well, I guess that means I should get up and start getting dressed too. Pen’s probably going to be ringing me soon. I could call my mom up and just drop off Alexander and Lacie with her.” She said rubbing her eyes as she slowly started to sit up, but Matt hurried over to her and pushed her shoulder’s back down towards the bed.
“Nope, Penelope strictly said that you were not to be called onto the case Y/N. You just had a baby. You need some sleep, and since the IRT disbanded, I’ve been dying for a case.” Matt said as he leaned down to place a kiss on top of her forehead. “I will be back as soon as I can, alright?”
“Alright.” Y/N said smiling as she looked up at Matt and smiled up at him. “I love you, and be careful, please.” She said as she squeezed his hand tightly.
“I always am, aren’t I?” he asked her smiling before placing a quick kiss onto her lips before he walked out of the bedroom door and hurried down the steps, knowing that the team really need his help. He was glad that he didn’t tell Y/N, knowing if he did, it would have worried her even more then she was already.
 ☾ . ° . ⋆⠀┊---------------------------------------------------------------┊ ⋆⠀. ° .  ☾
It didn’t take long for Y/N to fall back asleep, except this time, it was her phone that woke her up. “Hello?” She asked as she answered the phone.
“Is this Miss Rossi?” the female voice on the other side of the line asked.
“Yes, this is she, can I ask who this is?” Y/N asked a she soon stood up from the bed and started to walk over to the closet.
“This is Nurse Hugh’s over at D.C General Hospital. Your father, David Rossi, was brought in tonight with the rest of his team. Since you are his emergency contact, we decided to notify you. He is though refusing medical treatment for right now, so we would really appreciate it if you could come down at this hour and speak some sense into him.” The nurse asked her over the phone.
Of-course her father was refusing treatment, it didn’t shock her at all. “Yes, I will be down as soon as I can.” She said to the woman over the phone, before hanging up and hurrying to throw on some cloths that looked appropriate, all before hurrying and throwing a diaper bag together for little Lacie, and pack some snacks and things to entertain Alexander. She knew that she would have to bring her son and the little baby with her now, to try and convince her father to actually get medical treatment.
 ☾ . ° . ⋆⠀┊---------------------------------------------------------------┊ ⋆⠀. ° .  ☾
It only took a short time to drive to the hospital, and soon enough, she was walking in with Alexander holding her right hand and walking, while she had Lacie in her stroller. “What the hell are you doing here? Your supposed to be on maternity leave, not working a case?” Luke asked once he saw the woman walking in with her baby to the hospital where all the team members. He soon grabbed the stroller out of her hands and started to walk with her while pushing the stroller.
“I’m not coming to work the case Luke, I’m my dad’s emergency contact. So, they called me to say he was denying medical treatment.” She said before following Luke to the room where her father was staying in. Once inside, she saw her father laying on the hospital bed, with a bandage taped around the hair line on his forehead. “Now, why the hell are you denying medical treatment?” Y/N asked her father as she watched Luke place the baby stroller off to the side for her.
“I said, I would accept medical treatment once Luke and Spence went to my office and opened my desk to grab those Cubs season tickets that I’ve been promising him.” Rossi said, giving his daughter a pointed look, as to stay just go with it.
“Alright, well can you two head off then? I would really appreciate it if my father was actually checked out by the doctors.” She told the two men standing in front of her before watching them walk out of the room.
“Grandpa, up.” Alexander said as he put up his arms while standing on the side of his bed. The two were very close, maybe it was the fact that her father insisted on Sunday dinners with the family now.
Y/N walked over to the side of the bed and put her hands under Alexander’s arms and picked him up to sit on the edge of the bed, as she pushed some of the strands of hair out of his face. “You didn’t call your brother or mother about this all did you?” Rossi asked his daughter, hoping that she wouldn’t have called either.
“Mom, no. She would have been glad that you were in here and said you deserved it. It may have been decades since everything, but mom keeps grudges. Nicholas on the other hand I did call.?” She said as she soon saw her father about to start lecturing her on calling her twin brother this late at night. “I called him just to let him know what’s going on, besides he’s not even asleep yet. He’s off in California working on a case.” She told her father. It wasn’t a surprise that THE David Rossi, who started the BAU, would have twins that would both be working as Special Agents. While Y/N now worked for the BAU with her father, she at first worked before with the IRT, where she met her fiancé. While, her twin brother Nicholas worked for NCIS.
“Well, I’m glad. I only one worry child for tonight.” Rossi told his daughter smiling. Soon enough, the doctors were allowed to come in and check Rossi for the injuries he might have sustained in the car accident.
 ☾ . ° . ⋆⠀┊---------------------------------------------------------------┊ ⋆⠀. ° .  ☾
It only took a few hours, but the team had been able to catch Scratch before he could do any more harm to anyone. It might have been wrong to say, but Matt felt amazing right now. He had been missing the thrill of being out there in the field, working on taking down an unsub. Yet, all he wanted to do now after taking down Scratch, was take his family home. Which is why he was standing in the open door, looking into Rossi’s hospital room to see Y/N and Alexander both curled up on the tiny couch with one another, while Lacie was asleep in her stroller. “I told her that she needed her rest.” Matt said sighing as he walked into the room.
“And you really thought she would listen? I raised her; I know she has selective hearing.” Rossi told Matt smiling as he chuckled shaking his head. “Take them home, you all need your rest. Their keeping me over night just to make sure nothing is wrong with me. Then you all can come be my ride home since my car isn’t here.” Rossi told Matt smiling.
“I’ll just leave Y/N’s keys here for you, then you can just drive home and we’ll all come over later in the day for dinner.” Matt said smiling before walking over to where Y/N was sleeping, and shaking her shoulder gently. “Hey, time to go home and get some sleep there.” Matt spoke quietly, trying not to wake up Alex in her arms.
Y/N nodded her head before sitting up from the bed slowly before getting up and passing over slowly before looking over at her father. “Are you sure you are okay for us to leave you for the night?” She asked her father as she soon started to wheel Lacie around the room.
“Yes, I am perfectly fine. You two get some sleep, and make sure my grandchildren are up and ready to eat some of grandpa Rossi’s food tomorrow.” Rossi told his daughter smiling.
“Well Alexander is the only one that can eat your food, as for Lacie, I can’t promise she’s going to be up. She likes to take multiple naps throughout the day.” Y/N said smiling as she walked over to her dad and kiss his forehead. “Love ya dad.” She said smiling.
“Love you too sunshine.” Rossi said smiling as he watched the couple soon walk out of the room.
“Alright, let’s go home and get these kids to bed.” Matt said smiling as the two of them soon walked out to his black SUV that was parked near the front of the hospital.

It seemed as if sleep was just not for the two parents tonight once they got back home. Alex had woken up right when the car stopped, so Matt had gone to go read the young boy a book. While that was happening, Lacie had decided to wake up as well, though she was waking up because she was hungry. So, Y/N had heated up a bottle for the little girl. By the time that the two children had back fallen asleep, it was near 3 in the morning.
The two parents soon laid back down in their bed after the event full night. Y/N placed her head on Matt’s chest and soon asked, “We can do this right?”
“Do what?”
“Be two working FBI agents, while also being parents of two kids?”
“Of-course we can.”
“A-are you sure?”
Matt soon moved up a little to look down at her. “Of-course we can, we are two badass parents that can handle everything that’s thrown at us.” He told her smiling.
Y/N soon let out a yawn. “Your right we are two badass parents.” She said smiling
“And now these two badass parents need their sleep.”
“Oh, you are correct about that. I love you.” She said as she let her eyes flutter shut.
“I love you too.” Matt whispered to her before pressing a kiss into her hair, and letting his eyes shut as well.
