The week leading up to Valentine’s Day had been a nightmare. Boys throwing grand romantic gestures your way, desperate attempts to win your favor—it was exhausting. And to make things worse, Mattheo had been watching it all unfold with nothing but amusement.

Every time someone asked you, he was there—leaning lazily against a wall, smirking, making some snide comment under his breath.

“Not this guy,” he muttered one morning at breakfast as a Hufflepuff nervously approached you. “Can’t even hold his wand properly, what’s he gonna do with you?”

“Mattheo,” you warned, shooting him a look.

“What? Just saying, sweetheart.” He grinned, tossing a grape into his mouth like this was all a game.

It was driving you insane.

So when Valentine’s Day finally arrived, you expected him to keep up his usual antics—watching, teasing, maybe throwing in a sarcastic Where’s my Valentine’s gift, love? just to rile you up.

But that wasn’t what happened.

Instead, as you left the library that evening, you found yourself cornered.

Literally.

One second, you were walking down the empty corridor, and the next, you were being tugged into an alcove, your back pressed against the cold stone wall. Your breath hitched, and before you could react, he was there.

Mattheo.

Towering over you, hands braced against the wall on either side of your head, his dark curls falling slightly into his face as he looked down at you with that infuriating smirk.

“Relax, sweetheart,” he murmured, voice low. “Not gonna hex you.”

Your heart pounded. “Mattheo, what the hell—”

“You’ve been turning down every single guy this week,” he interrupted, tilting his head. “Kinda started to think you were waiting for someone.”

Your lips parted slightly, but no words came out.

His smirk widened. “So tell me, was I right?”

You swallowed hard, pulse racing. “And if you were?”

For once, he didn’t have a cocky comeback. Instead, his expression shifted—just slightly. Less teasing, more real.

Then, from behind his back, he pulled out a single dark red rose, twirling it lazily between his fingers. “Then maybe I wasn’t wasting my time getting this for you.”

You stared at it, then back at him, completely thrown off.

Mattheo Riddle—chaotic, reckless, maddeningly smug Mattheo Riddle—was nervous.

A slow smile crept onto your lips. “Are you asking me to be your Valentine, Riddle?”

He scoffed, but there was no real edge to it. “Don’t make me say it, love.”

You laughed softly, reaching up to take the rose from his fingers, twirling it between your own.

“Alright then,” you murmured, leaning in slightly. “I’ll say it for you.”

His breath hitched as your lips brushed against his cheek—just the faintest touch before you pulled away, amusement dancing in your eyes.

“Yes, Mattheo,” you whispered. “I’ll be your Valentine.”

For the first time all week, Mattheo was speechless. And you had never seen anything more satisfying.

Poor Tom just wants to go on with his day without hearing kissing noise.

Mattheo Riddle

Always pestering you to get him a date. Hell, he even woke you up straight on Valentine’s Day so you could help him find one.

Even for the yule ball…it was annoying.

“Are you sure you can’t make a love spell to work only for tonight?” Mattheo says, walking by you in the halls. You swiftly turn around with an annoyed expression. “Matt…please shove a sock in your mouth. I can’t force love, I can coach for sure. But force isn’t a good thing.” You lastly said. Leaving the Slytherin male to think to himself.

It took a few days for him to start to flirt with you. At first it didn’t work but then it started to.

Ending up with you two dating, oddly mattheo stopped talking about love which made you ask him.

Only for him to say this, “I stopped talking about love because you took it all.” Cheeky bastard…

Draco Malfoy

He’s just like Tom. He hates seeing pda from strangers. But for him he doesn’t mind showing you affection in public

A hypocrite I must say.

But he love show you do help couples with their relationship problems. He find it usual if you two ever get into an argument.

He’s curious, is he not? He goes into your so called “love office” and checks out your potions only to accidentally drop one called “obsession” on two rats who started to mate aggressively.

He was traumatized and never went inside your office again.

Blaise Zabini

Teases you a lil for being a love witch/wizard.

At first he thought you were joking to be one, but when you show your own magic he was amazed

Now he wants to watch all your sessions so can give his own love advice

Of course he credits you🫶🏾💕

If mattheo asked Blaise to steal a potion so he make two animals fall in love

He would either do it out of pure curiosity or just say no. You trust him a lot and even gave him a spare key for your office.

Theodore Nott

He would be a slight hater towards couple showing pda in public because he’s jealous he doesn’t that kind of love.

Would immediately sneak into your love office and try to do a “compatibility test” so he can see if you two are match

Would ask you a lot of damn questions of what do girls like in a guy and what do guys like in a girl. He just wants to know!

Probably asks if you do sex therapy.

Now that made him kicked out of your office.

Just a Glimpse of Us

summary: after a particularly rough break up with mattheo, theodore is there to pick up the pieces. he’s the perfect boyfriend in theory, so why do you wish it was your ex instead?

a/n: while the reader is currently dating theo, this isn’t really about him (sorry bby ily). our focus today is matt. he’s a bit of a dick for the majority and says a couple of insensitive things. the happy ending won, so here it is, happy valentine’s day ♡

Only 2 weeks after your relationship ending fight with Mattheo Riddle, Theodore Nott asked you out. You said yes.

It had taken you a week longer than it had for Mattheo.

You weren’t entirely sure why you had said yes. The pessimist in you said it was only because you were hurt. The optimist in you meekly thought different.

Theodore was attractive and surprisingly gentle with you. In the days following the break up, he frequently sought you out in the nooks of the castle you started to escape to. The times when you couldn’t keep yourself together, he held you as you broke down in tears and didn’t let go until the pain subsided. His chest was warm and sturdy and safe. The scent of smoke lingered on him hauntingly similar to the way it hung to Mattheo, permeating his clothes and your soul.

He was there by your side when you stumbled on a Ravenclaw girl practically chewing Mattheo’s face off out in the hall in front of god and everyone, 3 days post breakup. Part of you knew he wanted you to see.

A piece of you died that day.

The following weekend party ended with you in Theodore’s bed. Maybe you wanted Matt to walk in his dorm and see you with one of his best friends. Maybe you wanted him to feel the same festering wound you had been living with since he had stormed out of your life.

He never did come back that night.

A week after Mattheo broke your heart a second time, Theodore found you sitting in the astronomy tower, knees to your chest, staring at the view of the valley. He sat next to you, arm easing its way across your shoulders as you leaned into him. He had seemed nervous, so unlike his usual stoic and relaxed demeanor.

“Would you want to maybe go to Hogsmeade with me tesorino?”

The pessimist in you was right.

That was a month ago. A month of dating Theodore Nott. You were less sad at least. Or maybe you were just more numb.

Despite sitting at the Slytherin table with Theodore and your friends, you weren’t really present. You were vaguely aware of his hand resting on your side and the unintelligible chattering filling in the background noise of aimless thoughts. Your eyes were facing the rest of the Great Hall, but you were looking through it. You used to sit here with all the same people but Mattheo always used to be here too. You hadn’t seen him during meals or class lately. He would sling his arm around your waist during meals like this. Theodore’s touch burns.

Before your mind can drift off too far as to what he could possibly be up to recently, the doors to the great hall open with a thud.

It takes a few blinks to get your eyes to focus back and when they do, you’re greeted to a bored looking Mattheo, arm loosely resting on—what appears to be a Hufflepuff—girl’s shoulder.

Theodore’s grip on you tightens and a kiss is pressed to your temple. Matt’s eyes rake over to where you’re sat and you can’t quite figure out what he’s thinking. As quickly as he looked your way, he directs his attention elsewhere.

“You okay tesorino? You got tense,” Theodore speaks softly above your ear.

With an exhale you smile up at him, “I’m okay Teddy.” He’s looking at you like you placed the moon in the sky for his enjoyment and it reminds you of brown eyes that had once looked at you the same way.

Pushing the thought from your mind, you press a firm kiss on his lips- searching for butterflies or fireworks or something when he returns the motion.

You find none.

“Nott? Really sweetheart? You can do better than that.”

Mattheo’s voice stabs through you, making you involuntarily jerk to a halt. It had been so long since you’d heard his voice. You try to regain your breath before turning to face him. He’s standing in the middle of the hall, cocky smile on his face. You had forgotten how arrogant he could be, used to his sweet smiles and soft eyes reserved only for you. You desperately longed for it. That Matt was long gone, just a whisper you were still hopelessly trying to grasp onto.

He raises an eyebrow when you make no attempt to respond, seemingly expecting a snarky remark. He takes a couple strides toward you. He baits you again, “I guess I can see why you hang around him, he follows you around like a pathetic dog.” You bite.

“At least I’m not a manwhore who jumps in the first skirt offered to him,” the calm in your tone surprises you, your entire soul feels like it could shatter any moment. “What do you want Riddle?”

Something flashes across Matt’s face for the briefest of moments. So subtle only you would have noticed it.

Before he can respond Theodore is by your side, “why don’t you say that shit to my face next time.”

“And here’s the guard dog now. Have to say, didn’t expect my best mate to lap up my sloppy seconds.”

Tears sting in your eyes at his unexpected cruelty. Then the sound of a fist cracking bone is making you jump. You cover your mouth with your hands as blood starts pouring out of Mattheo’s nose. A crowd has started to form around the three of you and you’re grabbing Theodore’s arm that’s getting ready to take another swing.

Matt’s face is hard to read. He doesn’t immediately react to his apparently broken nose nor the blood staining his uniform. Instead his eyes are locked on you.

You force your voice to work, “c’mon Teddy, it’s not worth it.”

He snaps his head towards you in bewilderment. “Tesorino you heard what he just said about you, right?” Your heart aches at his concern only for you, your gaze shifting to meet Mattheo. The same aching heart reminds you he would have done the same for you once upon a time.

Those pretty brown eyes convince you that you don’t want to see his face anymore beaten than it already was.

“Please Teddy, let’s just go.” You look up at Theodore’s face and tug on his arm.

He relaxes his stance and gives you a nod, letting you lead him away. You do your best to not look back at Mattheo.

However you can’t help the quick glance over your shoulder; seeing Matt looking at you, ironically, like a kicked puppy.

You cry yourself to sleep that night, locked in Theodore’s suffocating embrace.

Monday night finds you back in the astronomy tower, cigarette in your fingers. You had swiped it from Theodore’s stash before classes this morning. It wasn’t the same brand Matt used. Knowing Nott, it was probably higher quality.

You turn the stick in your hand, blinking back tears. Thoughts of your time up here with Matt swirl around your head, making it hard to breathe.

There at the top of the tower surrounded by the cool night, you break.

It happens all at once. No build up, just a shatter. Sobs rack through your body and an animalistic cry of pure pain and despair forces its way out of you.

Mattheo pushes himself off the leather couch he sat on in the common room. Enzo looks up at him with furrowed eyebrows. He pulls a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket and flashes it at the boy, “need a smoke, wanna come with?”

He gets a small head shake no in response before he turns to leave the dungeons.

The walk up to the astronomy tower is familiar and would be comforting in different circumstances. As he starts climbing up the stairs he hears broken sobs echo through the tower. He hesitates thinking it might be best to leave the person alone, but his concern wins out and he treks onward. To say he’s shocked when he sees it’s you is an understatement. Heart rate picking up at the thought of you being hurt, he makes his way over.

At the sound of his footsteps, in between sobs you choke out, “please leave Theo, I want to be alone.”

“I’m not Theo, sorry to disappoint,” the words are slightly joking but his tone is gentle.

You lift your head up to look at him, eyes red and tear tracks staining your cheeks. His heart aches. He settles himself down next to you, giving you space.

You sit together in silence for a few moments, his mere presence wrapping itself around you like a childhood blanket, tattered and long lost. You feel some semblance of peace for the first time in months.

“I’m sorry,” he ducks his head down, shame overtaking him. “You didn’t deserve the way I treated you.”

He tilts his head to look at you, eyebrows knitting together. He almost looks like he could cry. “You’re not my sloppy seconds and Theo isn’t a dog, I just-“ he goes back to avoiding your eyes and blinks a couple times, a tear rolling down his cheek. You reach out and gently wipe it away with your thumb. It has the unintended consequence of making more tears start to fall.

“I was angry and hurt and I guess the only way I know how to express that is by hurting everyone around me.” Your soul shouts at you to reach out for him, but you hold back.

“I think about you all the time,” he’s curled in on himself in the way you’ve only ever seen him do when he talks about his home life. “I miss you so much.”

His eyes squeeze shut in an attempt to stop crying, fingers digging into his biceps. You know him too well, can read his actions like you were reading his mind.

You pull him into your arms.

It’s easy to tell you made the right decision when he instantly relaxes in your embrace, instinctively pushing his head against your chest like he had done so many times before. His voice comes out quieter when he says, “I don’t expect you to forgive me, lord knows I wouldn’t.”

A small smile works its way onto your face as you speak to him for the first time since the fight in the hallway, “you’ve always been the type to hold a grudge. And I know you’d never admit it, but it’s because you care.”

“I’m sorry for kissing that girl, I don’t even know her name. I thought it would fill the hole in me, but it didn’t. Then I saw you with Theo at the party and—“ his voice cracks. You tighten your grip, a hand coming up to run through his curls.

You release a breath you didn’t realize you had been holding, “I told Theo that I couldn’t keep seeing him today. I felt like I was using him, cause he’s not you.”

Matt pulls himself out of your embrace to cup your face in his hands, dark eyes swimming with unshed tears and that gentle look he used to give you. The one where you could see the longing, the raw need for your touch and love and approval and very essence of your being. It was vulnerable and gave away just how deeply sorry he was for hurting you.

You were drawn to him as you had always been, a planet orbiting a sun that gave off such warmth and fiery passion but could also burn magnitudes of pain that was near incomprehensible.

“I can’t fix the damage I’ve done, but I want to spend my life making it up to you. And I’ll do everything in my power to make amends with Theo. Please, let me be part of your life again.”

“Matty, I want to, but I don’t want to feel like that again. It was hell,” your voice catches on the last part, a stray tear escaping. Gentle lips are pressed on your cheek where the tear was.

“I will never make you feel that way again. And I give you full permission to use an unforgivable if I don’t keep my promise. Fuck, I’ll take an unbreakable vow if that’s what you want, love.”

You can’t hold back anymore, pressing your lips to his in a kiss that rivals the most beautiful sunsets, warmth rushing over you. This is what home feels like.

You sighed as you laid in bed, trying to ignore your disappointment. Mattheo hadn’t gotten you anything for Valentine’s Day. He didn’t even mention it. No ‘Sorry’. No ‘I forgot’. He didn’t even tell you he loved you early when you split up for class. Had you done something wrong? Worry filled your mind, and you tried to hold back tears.

Suddenly the door opened, and Mattheo entered with a huge grin. His hands were behind his back, and he smiled as he came over and kissed your forehead. “Hey love. How was class?” He asked softly, his eyes never leaving yours. “It was fine.” You replied with a tone of dismissal, your eyes shifting to your lap.

“I brought you something.” The sentence immediately filled you with curiosity. You watched as Mattheo removed his hands from behind his back, handing you one of his hoodies. His favorite hoodie. “Mattheo? Wha-?” You couldn’t even finish your sentence, stuttering as he sat down beside you. You had tried multiple times to steal the hoodie from him, but he always caught you. He would never let you take it. “I got a new one a few days ago. I thought it was about time I passed that one down.” Mattheo said with a giggle. You held the hoodie up, admiring it in all its glory. It smelled like cigarettes, cologne and ink. Just like Mattheo. “Check the pocket.” You did as Mattheo said, checking the pocket. There was a small rectangular object, neatly wrapped and untouched. You unwrapped it, your eyes filled with surprise. It was a mixtape labeled ‘Love Day’.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, my love.” Mattheo said with a grin, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “Matt, I…you remembered?” You asked in disbelief. “Of course I did, baby. Did you really think I would forget?” Mattheo asked with a small laugh. You frowned, and Mattheo chuckled. “I love you. I guess I did forget that earlier.” Your eyes immediately brightened, your expression turning soft once more. “I love you too, Idiot.” You smiled, putting the mixtape on before settling back in your bed. Of course, most of the songs were The Smiths songs. You didn’t mind, knowing it was Mattheo’s favorite band. You curled into Mattheo’s side, enjoying the sound of music filling the room mixed with the calming beat of Mattheo’s heart. Best Valentine’s Day ever.

HSMTMTS 2x05 Review

The Quinceañero was a truly historic ep featuring the first time two boys have ever kissed on a Disney show. Let’s dig in!

We got the second same-sex kiss in Disney history tonight, Big Shot had the first last Friday, and the first kiss between two boys in Disney history. It’s a huge step forward. That’s not to say that Disney is going to start approving more same-sex kisses or lgbtq relationships or characters but the door is now open and at least some other shows and movies will be able to eventually follow in HSMTMTS steps.

Really nice cover of The Climb, Joe has such a great voice. It was cute that young Seb had watched young Carlos’ dance vid and felt inspired. Frankie and Joe being an irl couple certainly helps give Seblos a good rapport but it also helps that creator and showrunner Tim Federle is an openly gay man himself. I think if a straight man was showrunner we probably wouldn’t get such dedication to Seblos as a couple. 

It was a really funny ep too: Carlos saying his love language is riddles, Ricky asking Nini who they talk to when doing their confessionals, Carlos saying Miss Jenn was a master of smoke and mirrors, Benjamin Mazzara and Mike Bowen interacting. My personal favourite gags were when Big Red said he always wanted a nickname and Kourtney immediately did an office stare and when Nini said Picasso was a terrible person.

Gina still going through it. Kourtney is right that it doesn’t really make sense that Gina is now going to all this trouble for Carlos but to be honest the writing and pacing has been disjointed so far this season so a lot of things aren’t flowing as well as they need to. Is what Gina regrets convincing Ricky to go back on stage as that helped get Rini back together? That’s petty but fair and also true to teenage emotions (though she shouldn’t beat herself up too much, Rini were clearly on the path to getting back together by that point anyway).

Jesus Christ, Ricky needs to read the room. Last ep he correctly realized that Gina wouldn’t want to hear about his Nini issues and tried to stop Big Red from mentioning them but now he’s just doing it himself? Obviously they’re trying to drill in the fact that for now Rina is one sided but it’s a little much. Also really doesn’t make sense that Ricky wouldn’t go to Kourtney or Big Red for this kind of advice.

Sofia Wylie was killing it this ep, both her and Joe are showstoppers. A Dancer’s Heart was great and she did a good job of acting on the verge of tears almost the entire ep

At least EJ actually thought to ask Gina how she’s feeling though and she clearly appreciated it after she got over her shock. It does seem that reports of Portwell’s demise were greatly exaggerated, with the music and the longing stares they’re setting up for at least EJ to have a crush on Gina. Hell even Mazzara picked up on it at the end. I had noted last week that it seemed like Gina’s story line in S2 was being thrown out of balance by the writers dropping a planned Portwell plot and sure enough this week we actually begin to see Gina’s story arc not being entirely her pining over Ricky. 

EJ also benefits by being given something to do instead of just standing around in the back. I’m glad he took Mazzara up on the AV club offer and they have a nice mentor-mentee relationship going on. It’s also a nice little parallel with 1x05 when Gina told off EJ and had a moment with Ricky and now in 2x05 Gina tells off Ricky and has a moment with EJ. 

Matt seemingly dismissed Portwell as a friendship rather than even hinting at something between them. I guess he could have been told to keep it under wraps as much as possible but odd that they wouldn’t hype it a bit; it’s not like this came completely out of left field, people were wondering if Portwell might happen because of the moment they had in 1x10 and the facetime call they had before S2. Sofia has already said that Gina will have love interests this season and EJ being one, even if it’s brief, would make whole lot of sense since there’s really no one else for except Jack who only shows up much later and doesn’t seem to be in more than an ep or two.

Rini was sweet tonight. Yes Ricky is being clingy which stems in large part from his mom’s abandonment and in fairness Ricky and Nini have probably been used to spending much of their time with each other since they were kids. Loved that ‘I think you kinda you know’’ call back tonight. Looks like Nini will be cast as the Rose which should be interesting.

Miss Jenn is pulling Mike Bowen, Ben Mazzara, and Zach Roy. Good for her! Jike shippers certainly feasted tonight as Mike crashed a teen bday party just to see Miss Jenn and we got confirmation that everyone’s fave Disney Dilf was born in the 70s and must be no older than 51.

Well gotta love Lily’s commitment to bringing down East High and drinking scalding hot black coffee. She really seems like she just stepped off the set of Glee

Really hope we see those puppies and man was that wolf adorable

Not both HSMTMTS and Love Victor both making Okay Boomer jokes (it worked when Pilar said it to Felix but not when Ricky said it to his dad)

Big Red exposing Kourtney and Howie was good and it looks like their plot kicks into high gear next ep

Bet Tim thought he was real clever for that shot of Mazzara, Mike, and Miss Jenn in a triangle

A well shot ep except for one weird  and abrupt cut from Mazzara saying Caswell to Seblos outside the barn

Looking Ahead:

EJ stopping Gina from leaving would certainly further their relationship and would parallel him being the one to bring her back in S1. I still don’t get why they didn’t just use the Valentine’s chocolates as a plot device to further this plot; just have EJ secretly send them as he was also lonely and you can still have Gina think they were from Ricky.

From what I’ve seen online this Portwell hint has been controversial. It’s true that there’s an age gap between the characters of 2ish years and a much bigger one between the actors but I don’t think that will stop Tim as he already had EJ date Nini. I’ve also seen comments that it would be a bad idea since EJ is leaving at the end of S2 once he graduates but he’s not actually leaving, they’ll keep him around in some fashion until the current juniors graduate. 

So far it seems like Rini is the Rucas of hsmtmts, Rina is the Lucaya, and Portwell is the Joshaya.

Kowie starts progressing a bit next ep and we may possible see Antoine next week or the week after according to Larry.

Presumably Ricky’s clinginess starts causing trouble between him and Nini.

Still so funny that North High just up and decided to do Beauty and the Beast just to bring down East High.

“Foggy…did you get me…Love Hearts?”

A quick and dirty (and probably riddled with typos) fic to make you smile this Valentine’s Day!

The pun clocked me in the face like a baseball thrown by Bullseye and I just Had To, so pls accept my college era contribution to the fluffy Valentine ficlets:

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Matt!” Foggy exclaimed, settling a cardboard box in Matt’s arms.

“Oh boy... A box... Just what I always wanted...” said Matt, and earned himself a light cuff to the shoulder.

“It’s in the box, you dork. Got you a cookie cake from that new place a block from our second-favorite coffee shop. There’s little frosting hearts on it and everything. It’s adorable.”

Matt set the box down on his desk and then flipped the lid open. The wave of sugar that wafted up at him was ridiculously overpowering.

I shouldn’t, Matt thought to himself. I really, really shouldn’t.

It was an indulgence, a luxury — Matt didn’t need a cutesy holiday-themed dessert. But Foggy had bought it for him, and... And as sugary as the confection smelled, it didn’t smell plasticky or stale or artificially sweetened. The ingredients were good quality. And it wasn’t like Matt didn’t have a sweet tooth. So, just once... Just once, he could indulge a little. It was what a good best friend slash roommate would do, right?

“Frosting hearts, huh?” Matt asked Foggy at last, not sure what else to say.

“That’s right, buddy. I went all out. There’s a secret message on it, too,” Foggy told him. “The m&ms want to tell you something.”

“... What?”

Matt was still trying to puzzle that little riddle out when Foggy gently took his wrist, guiding his hand to the center of the massive cookie. Matt’s fingers pressed against something solid and smooth. An m&m, he realized. And not just one. There were clusters of them, arranged in rows, almost like—

Braille. Foggy had written him a message in m&m Braille. It was too big to read just with his fingertips, so Matt swept the whole length of his fingers across the words. It took a few extra seconds of thought to put the message together at that unusual size, but Matt got it in the end.

I law-ve you.

“Oh my god, Foggy, that is so dumb,” he said with a laugh, running his fingers over and over the m&ms — which appeared to be glued to the cookie with frosting, since they didn’t shift under his touch.

“But you love it,” Foggy said without a single trace of doubt.

His heart was beating out a happy little rhythm that just made everything ten times better.

“I love it,” agreed Matt, grinning. “In fact, I might even law-ve it.”

Foggy’s pleased laugh was even sweeter than the cookie, and before Matt quite knew what he was doing, he’d kissed it off his lips.

And then the whole world ground to a chilling halt as he realized what he’d done.

“I’m. Sorry, I didn’t. I,” Matt stammered because there was no diplomatic way to say sorry I was briefly overcome with madness and also my giant crush on you and kissed you completely out of nowhere.

And then there was a warm hand on his cheek.

“Well gee, Murdock,” Foggy said, “if I knew all I had to do to get you to fall in love with me was give you a giant cookie, I would’ve baked it myself like six months ago.”

Which... Sounded like Matt wasn’t getting rejected. Actually it sounded kind of like maybe Foggy had a giant crush on him too.

“Yeah...?”

“Yeah, Matt,” Foggy replied. “I mean I only tell you how hot you are like every week, is this really a surprise?”

okay this is going to be vague because it hapened over five years ago and my memory is spotty and i am moderately intoxicated right now. also, while I was there for the entire case, I am australian and a lot of important things happened while i was asleep. any other DN folks who were around at the time and have a better memory than me can feel free to jump in and correct/elaborate on anything i say here.

lowlightprimed was an ARG that played out on tumblr and discord in early 2017. The primary case started on valentine's day and ran until the ides of march, although the story continued to play out after this and covered possibly the entire the kira case (I lost track of the arg around this time so I'm not sure what happened exactly).

the arg began with a series of strange codes sent anonymously to several popular/active death note blogs. cracking these codes eventually lead players to @lowlightprimed-blog a tumblr blog apparently run by L. This blog contained a message from L explaining that Beyond Birthday had escaped from prison and started sending L threatening riddles and ciphers. Anyone who proved themselves by solving L's codes was invited to join a taskforce and help him solve the clues to track down and apprehend B.

The early case took place mostly on tumblr and consisted of a series of clues/threats sent back and forth between L and B's blog (I think B's blog was @rueryuuzaki - sorry for the tag if I am misremembering). A lot of the clues from this period were saved and catalogued on @the-lowlightprimed-library. You can see who the main participants were by looking through the posts there and in the lowlightprimed tag. Unfortunately the dumb bitch who was running that library blog never finished collecting and organising all the posts from the case because she had to focus on studying for her masters degree and not on running a fandom blog that only two dozen odd people knew or cared about (that dumb bitch was me).

Eventually we realised that B was watching us, so the case shifted away from tumblr and onto a discord server, where we would all hang out and hassle L at all hours of the day and night with our dumb jokes and terrible memes. And also sometimes we would dicuss clues and actually progress the case. It was around this time that @yagamirai10-blog1 joined the case.

I'm going to be honest, I don't remember the exact clues because it was a long time ago. I remember a lot of codes and ciphers, a lot of references to classical art that went over my head, some latin and many references to Julis Caesar. The Ceasar cipher was a big thing, so was the word VIDI and the number 44. Beware the Ides of March... then fall Ceasar <- this meant L was going to get fucking murdered. Something happened in Venice. There was a lake (or lakes?) and a man in an orange shirt who we all decided was very important (he wasn't).

What I do remember is that B was trying to kill L and we were trying to protect him. For some reason we thought that the best way to do this was to use L as bait to lure B out of hiding and trap him. And it worked! B was apprehended and L didn't die. He did get stabbed tho, and then he whined about it for some time afterwards. Watari narrated all of this to us because L was too greviously injured (sulking) to hold his phone or type. Matt took over B's blog and we all played cards against humanity at what was for me (an Australian) the arse end of the morning. It was all very exciting.

Some time after B was once again safely behind bars, criminals all around the world began dying of heart attacks, leading the taskforce to a new case in Japan...

So, in conclusion, the lowlightprimed cass was a month of sleep-deprived mania, memes, cracking complex ciphers and weird conversations with the world's greatest detective and the gang of tumblr girlies he was hanging out with on discord. It was the most fun I have ever had in any kind of fandom space ever in my life and I got a tattoo to commemorate it, and then promptly forgot all of the important details. So sorry if this explanation is maddeningly rambling and incomprehensible.

The most important thing you need to know is that L told us all that he arrested Lind L Tailor by seducing him, fucking him, stealing incriminating evidence from his house while he was asleep and then hanging around and fucking him again in the morning. And we never let him forget it.

Oh and also Alessandro Juliani (L's English voice actor) recorded some audio for us as L which is the wildest thing that has ever happened in the history of the earth, and you can still find that circling around on tumblr.

Bullet For My Valentine Lay Out Their Emotions In "Gravity"

Post-hardcore has always been the home for the broken, and that includes the artists as well. Bullet For My Valentine lay out their emotions in Gravity, an album that doesn't break any ground but does see the band deliver some of their most honest and pained material.

Gravity is riddled with self doubt and pain as vocalist Matt Tuck documents his own battles with depression. Songs like 'Under Again' see Tuck battle hopelessness, the chorus wailing "'Cause when I'm losing my head, it feels like I'm going under, under again and again." 'The Very Last Time' addresses someone who used him and subsequently put him in a bad headspace, Tuck angrily but emotionally singing "Your eyes don't lie, a pair of daggers cutting through my mind / Your stare it rips a hole into my life / Am I supposed to leave this all behind?" The lyrics seem more befitting of poetry than anything else, but definitely gets the message across. The record seems to only become more real as it continues, the tracks that are hardest to swallow coming at the end. 'Don't Need You' is the heaviest and angriest track on the record, exploding with riffs and angry screams. Closing track 'Breathe Underwater' is like a final plea, the song more quiet and restrained as Tuck sings painfully.

Sound-wise, Gravity is pretty much what you'd expect from a modern post-hardcore record. Opening track 'Leap Of Faith' really captures that average post-hardcore sound, and though it's formulaic to a degree, it's at least done well. 'Not Dead Yet' gets more stadium-oriented as the gang vocals and guitars ring powerfully, and the drama of title track 'Gravity' plays towards that grandiose vibe as well. Melodies carry 'Letting You Go,' but all of this is really indicative and expected of songs from this genre. As a result, things sort of become stale, even for as honest as the lyrics are (though the words to 'Piece Of Me' certainly don't help the record in any way).

Bullet For My Valentine lay out their emotions in Gravity, facing depression and hardship head on with honesty and real feelings. The record itself is average as far as post-hardcore goes, and though the sound does drag it, the lyrics offer something to really key in on.
