So I bound a collection of goldsickness-centered fics and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. This post is about the binding, and I'll do the fic recs in another post so they can be found separately later, but I'll still say a huge THANK YOU to the authors here for writing these and replying when I reached out!

My intention with this binding was to make a book that could look like a jewel in Thrór's treasure hoard. I wanted it to evoke opulence, so it's voluntarily very busy for the eye. The fabric is holographic golden pleather (which is so hard to take a picture of, the book actually looks darker and truly gold, but the camera shows reflections from every angle), it looks like it's shifting in the light (and it gives me a headache if I stare at it too long, but I want to stare at it, which echoes the gold getting to Thorin's head nicely). The endpapers are sparkly like silver and diamond dust, and I gilded the edges for the first time. Notice the black headbands and blue ribbon as a callback to Thorin's hair and eyes.

This fantastic fanart and its colors were part of my inspiration.

Mistakes What I learned this time

The book has flaws, of course. The main problem is that I did a straight spine instead of a round one as I usally do: I misjudged the size difference between the text block and the cover, it should have been bigger because of the added thickness of the spine. I used a fabric that's very thick and unwieldy and not made for bookbinding, so I have big prominent corners. And since this is the first time I use a guillotine, I need to loose some habits I had when typesetting to get my margins to look good without cutting. This time, I actually could cut, and it was too tight. The acrylic paint gilding isn't great either.

But!

It's fine. It's a small book, but all the text I wanted to preserve is there, it's beautiful to me, and I'm very proud!

hello travelers. are you to gain knowledge on mobs? well your in luck. this post will categorize mobs on what they are, how they look and there purpose. it will add mobs that were scrapped, spin off games, lets jump in shall we? the first category is the simplest. these are the undead. creatures that burn in the sun with rotting flesh or no flesh at all! some have abilities like hunger and poison! the following are these. undead: zombie, husk, drowned, lobber, bouldering skeleton, wither skeleton, bogged, wither, mossy skeleton, stray, frozen zombie, jungle zombie, wraith, phantom, red phantom (pet mob in minecraft dungeons), zombie piglin/pigman, armoured zombie/skeleton, zoglin, zombie pig (pet in minecraft duongeons), giant, zombie horse, skeleton horse, vex, necromancer, sunken skeleton, tower wraiths, vanguard, zombie villagers, bone spiders, skeleton wolf, skeleton horse traps, zombie rabbits, nameless one, wretched wraith and finally the wither storm (?).

some of you might ask why the wither storm is on the list. it is a command block corrupted version of the wither. therefore, undead.

next one has a wild range of mobs. known to be the main villains in the game and have been the center of theorization and fanart, i give you, the illagers. these lovable gray psychos inhabit the world and raid villages. plundering and thievery are there main skills. whats interesting is that some are known to have powers. lets take a look.

illagers: vindicator, pillager, evoker, witch, ravager, illusioner, iceologer/chilliger, tower keeper, guildsmith, powersmith, uniquesmith, enchanter, geomancer, mountaineer, rampart captain, pillager captain, royal guard, tower guard, vindicator chef, wind caller, pillager/vindicator raid captain, giant royal guard, warrior, giant royal guard, mage, arch illager and finally the viler witch.

this category is one of the famous ones. creatures that will help in battle and more. presenting, the golems! (yay!) this category consists of mobs that can be made or summoned. magically and manually.

ok heres a bonus one. a very small category that has one mob only. introducing, the sculkoids.

Gimme Shelter

This fic was inspired by the Batfam AU from this fanart by @acidulication. I hope you don’t mind. I just loved the concept and I ran with it.

There was a silvery gray cat with beautiful blue eyes that rested on the garden wall separating the grounds between two properties. The young cat liked to spy on the boy that played with the big black dog. Sometimes the boy with the friendly green eyes also played with a big black cat.

He watched the boy with rapt attention and longing; wondering what it would be like to be wanted; to be acknowledged; to be loved. The idea started to make him nervous and he started to tremble. This caused him to lose his balance on the branch and fall into his neighbor’s back garden.

Frightened, the cat tried to jump back onto the garden wall, but the wall proved to be too high. If he had been better fed by the people in his house, he might have been able to clear the wall, but no.

He walked a short distance from where he had fallen trying to find something that would give him the boost he needed to jump back, but there was nothing except a lot of open space. It was a beautiful back garden with a gazebo, a rose garden, some scattered trees and well-manicured hedges. It was beautiful, but the cat didn’t belong here. He had to get out of here fast.

He strolled along the border of the grounds and he started to hear faint barking. The sound was getting closer and closer to him and he started to panic.

The scared young cat ran full tilt heading for shelter under a bush of jasmine flowers. The dog had stopped barking, but his nose kept sniffing around where the feline was hiding. When the nose got too close the cat batted it away.

He didn’t have front claws to defend himself. The people in the big house made sure to get rid of them so he couldn’t scratch them. He stayed under the jasmine bush watching the dog’s paws go back and forth until he heard lighter footfalls and a child’s voice.

“Titus, get back! You’re scaring the kitty.”

The young cat stayed very still, but he knew that voice. It was the voice of the boy he watched every day from the garden wall. He ventured his head out and sniffed the air. The boy sat patiently crisscross applesauce by the bush. The cat kept his eyes on the boy’s hands. He knew what hands did to cats like him and he made sure they were in his line of sight.

“Hi, kitty. Oh you’re little. Are you lost? Do you have a home?” The boy asked, offering his hand for the kitty to sniff.

At the sight of the hand the kitten flinched further into the shrubbery.

“Are you hungry? I can get you some food? Come Titus.”

The feline watched as the boy and the dog left his make shift shelter. He ventured his head out again to look around. He had run so fast that he hadn’t realized that he had hid under the jasmine bush that was located closest to the house. Not hearing anything for a while, the young cat curled up and took a nap.

The boy was very nice to Kitty always giving him human food to eat and not the yucky dry stuff the man and woman had always left out for him. The boy even gave him a name, Tim. It was odd to him that the name felt right.

“My name is Damian. Father says that you are welcome to stay here as long as you like. Would you like that? We promise to take good care of you.”

One by one several of the other animals of the house came to meet Tim. The first one was the very big and very friendly cat. He wasn’t anything Tim had ever seen before in his young life. The big cat was actually a panther called Dick, with a beautiful coat and startling blue eyes. Dick insisted on always grooming Tim. At first Tim was uncomfortable, but he soon grew to look forward to it.

The next one he met was a hyena who Damian called Jason. Jason seemed very intrigued by Tim; almost frightened of being around him. Tim wondered if Jason had never seen a cat before.

“What’s wrong, Jay? Come meet Tim.” Damian coaxed the hyena, but stayed at a distance. The hyena made a strange strangled noise that caught Damian’s attention. “You’re not going to hurt him. Just remember to be gentle, okay?”

Tim had learned quickly that Jason was a fierce protector.  The hyena never let Titus or Alfred the cat get too close to Tim.

Tim was still afraid to go into the house, but one day it was raining and he didn’t have much of a choice.  He trusted that Damian would never hurt him, but that didn’t stop him from being wary of humans. Eventually he followed the boy passed the kitchen and up the stairs to the bedrooms.

Damian led Tim into an empty bedroom. He sat down on the bed and patted the space next to him encouraging Tim to join him. Tim looked around cautiously before obeying the gesture. He jumped up and honestly couldn’t remember ever feeling anything so soft and comfortable in his life.  Tim walked all over the bed taking in the comfort under his paws. The people at the house hadn’t given him a bed in what felt like years. He finally settled down and stretched to his full length on the bed.

Dick and Jason came in to the bedroom and looked knowingly at Damian. Tim watched the exchange and immediately straightened giving the newcomers his full attention. Tim watched as both the panther and the hyena shifted into human boys. Dick looked to be in his late teens, Jason a few years younger than Dick. Dick was the first to speak.

“Tim we know that you are a Shifter. We want you to know that you are safe here. If you feel more comfortable remaining in your cat form, we understand. But if you wanted to shift back, that’s okay too.”

Tim stared at both of them with wide eyes. He didn’t know what to do. He only remained in cat form because he figured none of them wanted to bother with him being human. Human boys took up much more space than cats.

He did wonder if they had already known he was a Shifter. Damian had never once fed him cat food. He had always fed him human food on a china plate and had always left a fork.

Tim couldn’t remember the last time he had shifted into his human form. The man and woman had never liked him taking up much space so they had made him shift and had kept him in a too small kennel as punishment. The too small kennel prevented him from being able to shift back.

Often enough they had left him alone with too little food and water. In his desperation he had figured out how to get out of the too small kennel and left the house. But because no one had known that the man and woman had a son who was also a Shifter, he had remained in his cat form.

Tim burrowed himself into the covers of the soft bed, took a deep breath, and shifted. He was ashamed of the state of his clothes. They were old, dirty and torn. The man and the woman had stopped giving him clothes once they had made him shift permanently.

“Tim,” Dick whispered, resting a hand on his head. “Are you okay?”

Tim peaked out from the blankets and nodded. “Y-yes.” It came out raspy from disuse. “Does…does Bruce know…what I am?”

Dick smiled. “Yes. He’s known for a while. Since the first day Damian found you.”

“He’s…okay…with me being here?”

“Very much. This bedroom was his idea. It’s yours.”

Tim looked around. “Mine?”

He didn’t know what to do with this new information. He couldn’t remember ever having a bedroom before.

“Can…” Tim swallowed. “…can I take a shower?”

“Of course. This is your house now, Tim. You are safe here in whatever form you choose.”

Once he was able to get cleaned up, Tim was a whole new being. His skin felt soft and clean and when he shifted his coat was shiny and free of mattes. He was still insecure with the freedom to be able to shift back and forth between human and cat, but everyone in the Manor encouraged him that either form was acceptable.

He alternated frequently between both forms trying to get used to being human again. Dick, Jason and Damian were great at helping him be a boy again. They included him in activities and gave him frequent hugs (these were mostly from Dick). Most importantly for Tim, they treated him like a person, not a creature they despised.

When Tim got overwhelmed with all the human stuff, shifting into his cat form was finally an enjoyable option. No longer did he resent his cat form because the people around him loved him as Tim the boy and Tim the cat. They treated him the same, as a person who just happened to be able to turn into a cat at will.

For the first time in a long time Tim was finally safe, loved and wanted.

1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?

The first I got involved in? Not wrote, but just... involved. Mh. It’s gotta be One Piece, that’s where I discovered fanart and fanfiction for the first time. First fic I ever read was some self-insert love-triangle between a Mary-Sue and Luffy and Ace and I absolutely loved it because the mere fact that here, for free, I just got to read about my favorite characters and my favorite anime was absolutely mindblowing.

15. Is there an obscure ship which you love?

I mean. 75% of the ships I love are “obscure”. I... I always find the very obvious mainstream ships... boring. I mean, sometimes I find them nice in canon, but mostly I find canon to provide enough about them that I don’t really need fandom to get more of it, you know? Or, which also often happens, I find the mainstream ships have more of a very strong friendship-dynamic, or even a sibling-dynamic in some cases, and I just can’t really find it in myself to want to see them in a romantic way.

So, if I have to pick an, as in one, obscure ship, I will have to go with my top OTP. Jagnus. Jace and Magnus literally lived together, in both the show-canon and the book-canon, yet somehow it is an “obscure” ship. I mean, not somehow, we all know why. It’s the unwritten fandom rule of “canon mlm shall NEVER EVER BE BROKEN UP HOW DARE YOU SHIP ONE WITH SOMEONE ELSE”. You have no idea how often that rule has come between me and my OTP. Basically every time there is a canon mlm ship, really.

And this in no way or shape means to criticize those who only ship canon and are content with it, you do you, but I do find the lack of creativity in shipping in fandom where there is a canon mlm ship... really damn boring. Fandoms without canon mlm representation have the wildest constellations of ships, have a far broader variety of content, but when there is canon mlm, the majority of a fandom tends to just happily sit down with it and hug it and prefer not to be creative with the content and the shipping. And as a certified multishipper, I don’t really get that - like, even if you like the canon, you could have multiple ships?

17. Who was your first OTP and are they still your favourite?

My first OTP was Shere Khan/Bagheera, because gods do I love Jungle Cubs. And while other ships I interact more with have pushed it off the throne, if I see any form of Sheregheera content, I am immediately sucked in, no questions asked, no hesitation. I am utterly in love with this very rare, small, very obscure actually, ship and I will always love it and it still is one of my favorites.

23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.

Ooof. Interesting one. I’ve done a variety of PJO fics I’m particularly fond of in previous versions of such a question, so let’s go with something else this time. “The Lost Soulmarks”. It’s, at this point, probably my own personal most reread story. I just reread it the other night, actually. It just - it hits all of the right spots in what I want from a fic. Very often, I write to please my readers, with “What do my followers like most?” in my mind at least to a certain degree, but some things are absolutely self-indulgent. And I should really write more absolutely self-indulgent fics because those are the ones I myself keep coming back to. This is the fact that REAL LGBT people watch this show; real NON-WHITE people watch this show; real WOMEN watch this show, and WOMEN are the literal lead characters of this show. But those parts of the audience wind up disappointed with the lack of care, consideration, or prioritization in this weak-ass writing, where only the art and animation salvage it.

Then why are some of the most prominent fans of the community LGBT, Non-white and/or women? I mean, surely if this was handled so poorly they wouldn’t be so prominent. Unless of course, the issue isn’t with the show but a certain group of people with a similar thought process (that being “If it doesn’t pander to me, it’s bigotry!.’)

Diversity isn’t a fucking myth like you think just because you have less social aptitude than a fucking rock, or because you refuse to interact with anyone that isn’t the same as you.

Monty was GENTLY asked in a post-show interview if there’d be LGBT+ rep in RWBY, and he confirmed yes. That was 2014.

And he also fucked over his own show numerous times. He wasn’t exactly a good writer so him saying that would have probably resulted in a ham fisted, out of place moment of gay angst that would never be mentioned ever again.

What Miles Luna, Kerry Shawcross, and Gray Haddock have done, instead of giving us a named PROTAGONIST character to be the first instance of that rep, they made the first openly gay character a VILLAIN. (no, Matte Sky does not count bc the VOICE ACTOR named them, not the creators)

You mean the single sympathetic villain who would later get a redemption arc among the other straight villians who are portrayed as irredeemable and monstrous *cough* ADAM *cough*.

Oh no, how terrible. You get a complex and well written character instead of the edgelord. 

Nothing is groundbreaking about that trash. LGBT+ historians and fandoms have noted that in the media, villains were portrayed as gay, trans, or implied as such for YEARS. (it’s called “queercoding”)

And that’s called ‘bullshit’ because coding is only ever brought up in subjective ways.

Not only that: You were never promised something GROUND BREAKING. Show me where it was said that. 

Monty was GENTLY asked by fans at a convention when more brown characters would be in RWBY. He confirmed that Sun and Velvet have “cool” dark-skinned teammates. That was 2013. (after an animation panel at Supanova)

So no, this isn’t just “rabid tumblrinas” hounding the creators for the sake of being special snowflakes like you fucking think. These are real fucking people who love the soul of this show but don’t actually SEE THEMSELVES IN IT. And Monty, rest his soul, was so excited and earnest in wanting to be inclusive so this show could be shared and loved by more people.

Yeah and Miles and Kerry get death threats over this. That was proven in 2018. I could not care less.

And here’s the deal: If you cannot relate to a character because they do not share the same skin color as you, you do not DESERVE a character to relate to. Because creators are suppose to make compelling characters and skin color is NOT COMPELLING. Expecting me to find a character compelling because they are white is honestly INSULTING to me.

But the fact is that it’s not as inclusive as it could be. Even when he was alive, he made missteps too. And it’s not even like it’d be a big deal to fix. But hateful people go out of their way EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. to make it seem like it’d be such a lorebreaking addition to make a character brown, gay, or trans.

The fact that ‘it’s not as inclusive as it could have be’ is a flaw shows you do not actually care about the show. Because you care SO LITTLE about the show actually being good you try to prioritize something COMPLETELY DIVORCED from quality above all else.

And no one wanted them to just do it because it was not the right fucking time or place. Imagine a character in Berserk went off on a tangent about how gay they are. That’d be pretty cringy right? Now think of that same thing in MHA. Not even bad now is it? Because one is not built to support this and the other CAN support it.

Honestly, the way they handled Illa, from a purely writing standpoint, is the best way they could have gone about it. It’s used to emphasize her pain with Blake and quickly takes a backburner for Illa’s more personal and universal issues. They showed it was athing before moving onto more pressing matters.

It makes absolutely ZERO SENSE how a FANTASY REALM can be lacking so much variety in terms of its inhabitants. And Diversity is an AFTERTHOUGHT. Or a “lorebreaker” (remember the homophobic “how would you show gay characters? just have them make out during the chaos? That’d make no sense!” argument? Fun times!!!)

Damn near every single piece of fanart about Illa emphasizes her being gay, apparently that was an informed guess on their part. And honestly ticks me off since Illa is so much more than that.

How many times do we have to sift through the garbage comments on fanart (FAN ART!!!) of Blake being portrayed as black, as if that’s some huge leap from what she could have represented in the first place?

Representation doesn't matter here, it's the fact that these designs usually look like shit because the people making don’t care about good character design and use dark skin on a design that is built around light skin. It’s like if someone made a light skinned Emerald-it would look fucking awful.

How many times do ppl turn a blind eye to femslash fanart of team RWBY but suddenly complain when someone mentions the notion of one of the characters in team RWBY actually being canonically gay? Or bi? Or pan? Anything outside or in-between?

Never. I have literally never seen that happened. I’ve seen people be called homophobic for shipping straight ships before I say this.

Hateful people are like “u should be thankful” when they’re having a buffet of representation and we only get, not just breadcrumbs, but moldy ones that the ants are crawling on. Then, when we make our own stuff to satisfy us (again: FAN ART! FANFIC! HEADCANONS!!!) they’re suddenly so defensive and wanna police our shit???

A. Nobody has ever just eaten certain foods because of their color,

B. You actively REFUSE to accept any character that isn’t EXACTLY like you and proceed to try to hurt REAL PEOPLE over this. Mold crumbs with ants on them is more than you deserve, honestly STRAVATION is more than you deserve.

C. Making fanart and fanfics that are fundamentally WORSE than canon and calling it ‘fixed’ or ‘improved’ like these people always do is insulting. You are actively pissing people off.

A. Name me a single trans person who said that, let alone enough people for me to even consider that.

And B. Adam is cisgendered and a genocidial Nazi. Good luck beating that.

It’s not rocket science. Rooster Teeth’s animated show, “RWBY” has a problem not just with it’s writing, but with diversity. Pure and simple. And this show has had since 2014 to improve. But you’re still surprised that some of us are fucking mad.
