(so, heres a quick story.
i have a friend and she was enroute to be a social worker. Like was rejected from masters programs the first year she applied so she went into the field and got more experience and then applied again and yay! She got in! Moved to a different state for school and started it—
and then she dropped it
and learned how to figure skate instead. and got a job at the ice rink so she could get free skate time. and then started coaching children
and never looked back
and i think about this alot. because 1) its okay if the thing you always wanted for a reallllly long time that youve spent time working for isnt what you want after all. 2) its never too late to start over.)

you’re my favorite dnp historian (and just overall tumblr user <3), can you jog my memory of the moon room?
you're so sweet :3 for sure! basically when dnp moved to the second london apartment(s) they had planned to not really show their bedrooms/living spaces/most of the living flat but then in this liveshow dan had to do his weekly younow from his bedroom and talked about how it was a "dank moon cave/the mooniest room"(37:38) and thus became the moon room.
this was also the liveshow that caused absolute chaos as phil's straightener (bc dan had stopped straightening his hair at that point) and shoes were in shot when he panned to the show the chair (after of course people were already side eyeing phil's new bedroom being the size of a closet)

but remember this was 2017 so if you insinuated anything from that observation then one million years dungeon

i wonder if post god's menu stays realise how much of a shift that era was for skz? like obviously you can see retroactively by looking back at their discography irt their sonic signature, but i don't think people who weren't there can seriously grasp how big of a shock it was, they went from stan twitter's favourite punching bag to one of kpop's biggest up and comers practically overnight. they were already relatively popular by virtue of being a big 3 group, and they'd had a bit of success with miroh and less prominently my pace, but the absolute explosion after god's menu and their continued upward trajectory ever since was completely unprecedented for them. and especially given that they had JUST dropped a member. kpop groups do not tend to have massive spikes in popularity after losing members, and when levanter dropped we were all incredibly anxious for skz's future because it looked so bleak. we were crying cheering throwing up over ONE MUSIC SHOW WIN. ONE. they used to be less famous than everglow. do you understand me? are you understanding me.
#everglow's downfall has had kpop twitter's finest scholars scratching their heads for years#mismanagement and massive gaps between releases are probably the biggest culprits#but i think we all need to hold hands and accept that they were never going to be the next blackpink. the timing of it just wasn't right.#skz's timing on the other hand was literally perfect down to the millisecond.#i know we like to talk about how hard they work and all but i don't think we can discount how much sheer luck was involved#because i do not believe that jype or even the kids were paying that much attention to the timing of releases. like be real with me#and also their exponential growth in popularity as bts stopped being so active was not a coincidence at all#bts as a group stopped gaining as many new fans when they started solo activities and the members started military service#both due to a decrease in new music and their new music being so different from what made them appealing to young people in the first place#same with exo to a lesser degree because they never got as famous as bangtan#that left a vacuum at the top which skz stumbled into pretty naturally given their newfound and still growing popularity#all those new gen fans who were looking for the next biggest thing found skz#and with the sheer amount of content they put out they're the natural choice for a middle school kpop fan with too much time on their hands#i know that people still argue that txt is the biggest 4th gen boygroup but i'm not interested in falsifying narratives like moas are#< joke.#i know skz and txt were tussling for most popular for a while especially in 2020 and 2021#but after kingdom it just stopped being a competition. you can probably still argue that txt are more popular in sk#but with skz consistently marketing themselves as a global group theyve never done as well in sk as they have abroad that's just the truth#im not on twitter anymore so i cant obsessively monitor the trends anymore but also i don't need to because skz have come out on top. LOL#5 years and im vindicated at last.#take THAT 2019 kpop twitter.... <- man who hasn't gotten over anything ever in their life

I think I can finally articulate why I feel that the superior Good Omens adaptation is the radio play (audiomens). It isn't that the tv show (showmens? nah, doesn't work) veered further away from the source material, even though it did, because I think Audiomens' greatest weakness is its attempt at cramming as many original book lines into it as possible. It's all about the use of the medium as much as it's about the changes to the core themes of the book.
Audiomens made a very fun decision to have everything in the story essentially "overheard" without a need for a narrator. It means that several characters are more emotionally and self aware than they were in the book, but it generally works well and helps the listener suspend their disbelief as they hear the characters work through the story. We sadly lost the "Baby A, Baby B, and Baby C the Adversary, Destroyer of Kings, Angel of the Bottomless Pit, Great Beast that is called Dragon, Prince of This World, Father of Lies, Spawn of Satan, and Lord of Darkness" part, but enough good lines were kept in places they didn't fully fit that I can accept this was probably for the best. It's not perfect by any means but the way the story is told is, I think, the perfect fit for radio.
By contrast, TV Omens, despite the fact that they also had all the visual language of television at their disposal, chose to have a literally omniscient narrator. This immediately gave it the same weird moments as Audiomens where bits of the book are lifted wholecloth and delivered to the ears rather than finding a more elegant way to convey the information. Not only that but it undercuts the humanist message of the book, where God's existence is irrelevant, and what matter are the actions of normal* people. In the show, God is all knowing, watching events unfold, being involved in a way that seems completely at odds with the intentional separation even Aziraphale had to God in the book. In fact, in the radio play, it was Aziraphale who said the line about God being the dealer in the ineffable game of his own devising who won't tell you the rules and who smiles all the time.
I don't remember who revived the dove in Audiomens. I do remember that they remembered to include the random soldier who got disappeared by Aziraphale appearing back home in the US. I also remember that a minor demon got killed at Crowley's trial just to show the audience (us and the demons) the stakes. Life feels cheaper in the tv show, and I think that's terribly sad.
*for a given value of "normal" anyway
