N7Month Challenge - Day 5: Elcor
Nora was fascinated by the new species that had discovered space travel not too long ago. No species had ever left such an impression on the other races as the humans did. They were at war with the Turians first, but they already had an embassy on the Citadel. It didn't seem fair to Nora, that the Elcor still had to share an embassy with the Volus while the humans had their own. But humans just like Salarians were always busy and running around. They were always in a rush.
The streets on Dekuuna were always busy, but it was nothing compared to the busy streets on planet earth. Nora had yet to meet a human in person, but she couldn't wait. They were fascinating. They looked so different from every other species except the Asari. But her friends had just laughed at her when she said it, because the Asari were blue and didn't have any hair. Nora disagreed with them, just because human hair was more flexible and came in different shapes and colors didn't mean it was different from the Asari equivalent.
Another point she and her friends disagreed about was her departure from Dekuuna. Nora was eager to leave her homeworld, she wanted to see and explore other planets, walk along the fields of Earth or the streets of Thessia. She wanted to meet other species and learn, there was so much to learn from other species especially in person.
So she set out to explore and bought a ticket off the planet on a space cruiser. They tried to make her comfortable, but Nora was too big for most of the hallways. Ironic, really, since she was considered rather small among her kind. It was comfortable enough in the cargo hold though, the Salarians had made sure she had some privacy and a safe place to stay. Nora notes with some amusement that Salarians were even more jumpy than she had thought, always busy and always in a hurry. She pitied them a little, 30 years of life expectancy wasn't much time. She herself was only 120 years old, still young for Elcor standards. Yet the technician she spent some time talking to was only 18 years old. 18 didn't seem to her like an age he should have any responsibility on a ship.
Nora was excited and impatient when the cruiser docked at the Citadel. This was it. Now she would be able to communicate with every species and learn. Maybe she could get a job at the embassy, they could use all the help they could get.
Nora walked off the ramp with a happy swing in her step. She had only just entered the area where she had to show her ID and wait to be allowed inside when she heard fast footsteps approaching. She didn't have time to react and the human collided with her side. The human fell backwards and landed on the ground.
"Shocked and concerned," Nora remembered to voice her feelings. "Are you hurt?"
"My pride is," the human said and looked up at her.
"Visible relief: I am glad to hear you are not hurt," Nora said honestly.
The human got back up on their feet. "I didn't look where I was going."
"Amused: This has never happened to me."
"Get used to it here, no-one pays attention to anything," the human grinned. "Is it your first time on the Citadel?"
"Happily chatting: It is," Nora grinned.
"I can show you around, if you want." The human offered.
Nora wasn't sure if it was a genuine offer. "Hesitant: Are you sure?"
"Of course!" The human grinned.
"Happy: I will follow you."
"What's your name?" The human started to slowly walk towards emigration.
"Politely: My name is Nora," she introduced herself.
"Nice to meet you, Nora." The human nodded. "I'm Conrad, Conrad Verner, and you couldn't have asked for a better guide."

I almost always play as "Sole Survivor" For Shepard's backstory because it opens up a SHIT TON of dialogue in all 3 games, a lot of it plot important.
But it's also kind of fucked up to have the human characters all being "oh wow Commander Shepard! It's so cool you have all this survivor's guilt!" and have Shepard visibly cringe and go "HAHA YEAH. HEY I KNOW, LET'S CHANGE THE SUBJECT!"
Anyway Scholarship boy does a Google.

Modders are so insanely talented. The good folks behind the LE3 Diversification Project have managed to change up Kasumi's little walk-around mission into a fully instanced mission that involves going underwater at the Hanar Embassy. Super fun after playing through these games a dozen times over.
Some post-coup stuff here, losing Thane, hanging with Jack at Purgatory, and getting Mako's XO, Ashley, back on board the Normandy. Also Conrad Verner is there!

To balance out my sentimental and potentially emotional post previously, here is a crack fic about Conrad Verner waking up next to Commander Shepard.
It's good dirty fun and is definitely not safe for certain eyes if you catch my drift. It was a nice break to write before going into heavier stuff.

How do you think Kaidan would feel about Conrad Verner being a reoccurring character? Especially since no matter what option you pick, Shepard seems to have a bit more patience with him than other people
I hope you’ll forgive me if I Feelings Dump about Conrad Verner for a minute.
To first answer your question, I think Kaidan would be quietly jealous of Sam entertaining Conrad’s open adoration, even if he knows that Conrad isn’t exactly a romantic threat, because, well…no one is much of a romantic threat for Sam, lol. But I think Kaidan would be surprised that Sam gives him the time of day at all, much less shows patience towards him. And if he asked Sam about it…I’m not sure Sam would know how to answer, because I don’t think Sam knows why Conrad holds any object permanence in his head, especially during the events of ME1.
After Sam and Kaidan are actually together, jealousy isn’t much of an issue, at least on a serious level. And with Conrad specifically, I think Kaidan would give that a lot of space, and here’s where my feelings come in.
What I think makes Conrad stand out in Shepard’s eyes is that…he’s just a guy. The only thing special about Conrad is that he isn’t special at all. He’s awkward. He’s naïve. He’s in the way. His intentions are good, but he can’t get anything right, because as much as he dreams of being a hero and a soldier and a defender of the galaxy…he’s just a guy.
How many regular people does Shepard ever get to have a conversation with? Not many. And that’s something that actually means quite a lot to Sam.
The in-game conversation you can have with him during ME3 lives in my head rent-free. From a dev perspective, it was a fun easter egg to reward the player who kept pressing the button to see if he had any more dialogue. You get a war asset to reward you for the time-consuming side quests you did way back in ME1. You make jokes about thermal clips. It’s fan service, and I loved all of it. But from Shepard’s perspective…he stops in the middle of a quest to stop a terrorist and save more people to just…shoot the shit with Conrad. And…Shepard doesn’t want to leave the conversation. The conversation ends when Conrad asks you if you have more important things you should be doing. And…yeah. You do.
But imagine how good it feels in those few minutes, to forget how much responsibility you have to the galaxy, how much people are looking up to you, how many lives depend on you, and…have a normal conversation with just some guy. Not a turian Primarch. Not a krogan warlord, or the salarian dalatrass, or the Council, or your squad who know a million and one ways to kill people. For a few minutes, Shepard just gets to make a joke about thermal clips, and see the world through the eyes of someone who doesn’t have to look at the world as a chess board, and decide who has to get sacrificed here to save those people over there. Conrad Verner isn’t special. But what is special is that he lets Shepard also just be some guy instead of Commander Shepard, even if it’s just for a few minutes.
And I think if Kaidan senses how important that respite is, he’d give them as much space and time as he could to just be Ordinary Guys.

This post contains minor and major spoilers, minor about Conrad, major about TIM. Viewer discretion is advised.
Conrad Verner is obsessed with Commander Shepard. That's not the spoiler, that's like the main pillar of the character everyone knows. Conrad seeks your approval, wants to be like you, even as far as recruiting for Cerberus in ME3 (that's a spoiler but not the spoiler I mean). He's recruiting for Cerberus in 3 cause you were working for them in 2, he uhhh, didn't get the memo.
The Illusive Man is also obsessed with Shepard. He literally moves mountains of cash to bring you back from the dead. He also seeks your approval, especially [MAJOR SPOILER] at the end of ME3 on the Citadel when he's trying to argue for controlling the Reapers. That's what drives him, he wants to control the Reapers, sure, but if you're a Goody-two shoes he ends up giving up, Saren style *cough cough*.
Now you maybe thinking Conrad Verner and The illusive Man are so different in position that they could not be further apart. Conrad Verner is a bum trying to impress people with his Shepard Fandom, TIM is the head of a galactic underground terrorist organization with enough sway to bend the law when they need to (or break it if it they can't). How can they be so similar? TIM got to be the head of Cerberus by his cunning and ruthlessness, but in his drive to bring Shepard back, you think Conrad wouldn't have done the same thing in TIM's place?
TIM is very smart, you don't get to be head terrorist of a galactic underground org without having a good head on your shoulders.
[MINOR SPOILER] Doctor Conrad Verner is a doctor. "A doctor honey" - Turanga Leela, wait wrong series. But I feel people underestimate Conrad. He's gota good head on his shoulders, he's a Doctor in Xenotechnology and Dark Energy Integration. If TIM knew this guy he'd hire him on the spot, instead Conrad likely got recruited by some local schmuck who didn't care about his education. TIM would have looked at that resume and locked Conrad into some outpost where he could do Dark Matter stuff and Xenotechnology research, to be fed as many pictures of Shepard as he wants.
But I think Conrad Verner and The Illusive Man are more alike than people used to think. Now that I've said my piece, you will tell me I am correct because you are INDOCTRINATED.
