So the about three days ago I read this adorable fic by @valiantlyjollynightmare which introduced me to one of the warmest spring traditions I've ever heard of: mărțișoare.

So imagine my excitement when I left the train station today and there was a gentleman giving them out!!!! He even taught me how to pronounce it

And then I popped into a corner shop for a bottle of water and it turned out it was a Romanian shop, and they had a little basket of them on the counter, so I had to buy some to give out to friends and family.

I couldn't stop thinking about Marinette giving mărțişoare to her friends, so I wrote a very self indulgent fic where that's exactly what she does.

If you want to learn more about this Romanian tradition and get an idea about what the ones she gives in the fic look like, I put a bunch of pictures and explanations under the cut.

Basically, a mărțişor (plural: mărțişoare) can be anything as long as it has a red and white string attached to it, usually as a bow. Some of the most popular kinds of mărțişoare are symbols that are considered lucky, such as the four leaf clover or the horseshoe, but a snowdrop is pretty common too.

We give them to family, friends, whoever, on March 1, usually accompanied by some kind of wishing along the lines of “have a nice spring” or something like that, and you’re supposed to wear one for the whole month (not the same, of course; you can wear a different one every day), pinned to a shirt, on the left side. It’s also pretty popular for girls to wear one or more bracelets instead of a pin.
