Question for Orbulon! If you had to plan a surprise date for Sirela, where would you take her and how would you surprise her? 👀💕💕

Oh! What a question! Hmm... The universe is so expansive! Infinitely so! There are simply so many options it's challenging to choose just one...!

I could bring her to walk among any number of planets outside of your "Milky Way" galaxy. Many of them have dazzling displays of light and color in the skies, not unlike her frozen home. Although...their atmospheres are incompatible for an Earth-folk like Sirela. I can breathe fine no matter where I go! But I am afraid she would not fare well, even with this planet's breathing technology...

I have also considered taking her to places here that we may both enjoy. Perhaps one of your "amusing parks" or the place that serves bitter bean drinks - fascinating stuff, if you ask me! But she has lived here since she was born, so surely she is bored of these places...

There is...one more possibility. For some reason, she is quite fixated on a certain planet in your star system - I believe you call it "Mars." I do not think it is so different from Earth that your breathing technology would not work... Maybe I will surprise her with one of these apparatuses! Then we would board the Oinker and--

...Uh... Oh... On second thought, I do not think the Oinker can fit more than myself at the moment... Hm... I will need to reconsider this plan. For now, I think a stroll beneath the stars will do! And maybe one of your Earth-sweets, too: m..."mush-mellos?"

Roots and Wings

Happy Valentines, lovelies! This is my contribution to the @zelinkcommunity's Loftwing Letters 2024!

This Skyward Sword Zelink pure marshmallow fluff for Kels! @oatmilkdrnkr! I hope you enjoy this gift and I hope your Valentines is full of love :)

Link's happy to be home.

When he steps up to the porch, he wipes his boots off the doormat. He turns the key through the lock – though sometimes he ponders why they have a lock, being the only two humans on the surface – and throws the door open. And when he's through the frame, he drops his weapons by the door.

Link hasn't been gone for long: it's only about an hour trip to Faron Woods and back. But whenever he runs an errand without Zelda, he finds himself missing her madly and gets the task done with a fair amount of impatience before hurrying home.

This morning, he's cleared out an overwhelming infestation of Deku Baba's, which the Kikwi's complained began sprouting out of nowhere. Bucha was so pleased with Link that he repaid his efforts with seeds for their garden.

Link scans the small house and calls out "Zelda?" when he can't immediately find her.

"In the garden!"

And Link smiles, because her voice calling back to him from some unknown place in the house always makes him smile for some reason or another.

So he crosses the length of their small home, wincing at the mud that he still manages to track in, and through the backdoor. And true to her word, Zelda's in the garden.

This is how he knows her, with windswept hair and sunshine on her face. She glows – and most people might say that it's from the goddess within now that they know she's Hylia reborn – but he knows better. The laughing twinkle in her eyes and the flash of her smile is all Zelda.

His face brightens when she turns her gaze up to him. She's wearing a hat with a wide brim, a Skyloftian dress with an apron, and she's covered in nearly as much dirt as he is. "Welcome home," she says, and he feels it in his chest like one of Groose's sucker punches.

This is home. She's his home.

When they're little, when his feet were rarely on the ground and feathers were perpetually stuck in his unkempt hair, he thought it was Skyloft. After all, it's where he was born; it's where the Knight Academy is and where Zelda lived.

But when Zelda was thrown off her Loftwing and disappeared in a cyclone of darkness, Link was spun off balance. He couldn't eat; he couldn't sleep – and that's a feat for the goddesses, because anyone who knows him knows the man can sleep.

It was then that he started to realize that maybe it isn't normal - how much he missed her. Maybe friends don't feel sickeningly empty when the other isn't around. Maybe they don't feel like their entire world just dropped out of the sky.

Just when he started to understand that the sky is infinite, it became impossibly small without her.

When he woke up for the first time and Zelda wasn't there, Skyloft didn't feel like home. It wasn't until he found her that he started to understand. Every time he saw her - at the top of a staircase or across a gaping chasm - he felt a little safer, a little more at ease, if only for a moment in Zelda's company.

It would fill his heart and soul with warmth and light: for weeks he could thrive off that feeling alone. In time it would burn out without Zelda's presence to reignite it and he would grieve until he saw her again.

When all was said and done, Zelda decided to stay on the surface, and Link is staying with her. Though she asked, there's no question in his heart. Link learned by then, after chasing her to every corner of the earth, that he'll go wherever she goes.

Headmaster Gaepora, Zelda's father, insisted that the Sealed Grounds is not an appropriate place to live, even if it's only to rest their head between adventures. Neither Link nor Zelda see fit to argue with him. For the few months it took to build a house, the Skyloftian's were brave and kind enough to venture to the mysterious surface.

Though many of the homes in Skyloft were built generations before them, some people - mainly Gondo and Jakamar - still know the tricks of the trade. With their instruction, the villagers built a small traditional Skyloftian home.

Link felt it's kind of like woodcarving and Zelda isn't the best at it – though, goddess, did she try – but she's the one to make the house their home. She knitted the blankets and displayed his woodcarvings, and she always sets fresh flowers on the table.

By now, it's common knowledge. He knows it; Zelda knows it; he's sure all of Skyloft does too. There is no building on the sky islands or any province on the surface where Link belongs. Home isn't with the Loftwings or the Kikwi's; it's not even with his friends.

It's always been her. Zelda is his home.

Kneeling on the grass, she waves him over and his smile remains even as he maneuvers through the plots of flowers and vegetables.

"How'd it go?" she asks.

"Good enough. Bucha was happy." Link rummages through his pouch before holding out his hand. "He gave us some seeds. They're fruits, I think."

"Oh!" she exclaims. Zelda holds out her palms and he pours the small seeds into them before she tucks them into one of her apron's pockets. "Remind me to thank him later."

Link nods as he crouches down to examine the small mounds of dirt: her newest addition to the yard. "What're you planting?"

Her easygoing smile stretches to an enthused grin and it lights up her entire face. "Some sort of flower," she says. "I can't wait to see what it looks like."

Many of the flowers and plants look and taste much different on the surface. It's been incredibly fun to try new things, and since Zelda's always been inherently curious, she's thrilled to discover all that the surface has to offer them. Even the birds are incredibly tiny, and he smiles mischievously to himself as he thinks back to the first time Groose "descended" to the surface.

Zelda eyes him suspiciously. "What're you grinning about?"

He simply shakes his head, murmurs amusedly, "Nothing," and offers her a hand. "Ready to go inside?"

Zelda pauses, thinks, and flashes him a rather devious look before placing her hand in his. He should've expected getting tugged off balance, and he topples to the ground. He rolls to his back and she's astride him a second later.

Her golden hair falls around them and her smile is like the sun, and by some miracle he manages to move his hands to her waist. His cheeks are red and so are hers, but he thinks an afternoon in the sunshine is partially to blame. But only partially.

"Not yet," she says, but Link already forgot what he asked.

Zelda drops a kiss on his nose and he takes a breath because he always does.

"I'm covered in dirt," he warns her, though he's not sure why.

"So am I."

"Aren't you tired?"

"Are you?"

Link stops, thinks, before he decidedly shakes his head. Zelda's laugh is chiming, and he can't help but lean forward.

But before he can capture her lips, her damned hat knocks his forehead. Her laugh turns into a giggle fit and he grimaces abashedly as he rubs the sore spot.

Deciding on revenge, Link's hold on her waist transforms into tickles and she yelps, nearly jumping from her skin. "Hey!" Zelda says between giggles, and he's smiling again. She's adorable. "Not fair!"

She wriggles before collapsing atop him and he relents if only so he can flip them over. When Zelda's on the ground, her hat comes off and rolls out of sight, and her hair becomes a halo around her.

Her laughing quiets down and turns instead into a serene smile. Moments before he dips his head to kiss her, Link thinks how happy he is to be home.

2024 Megaman Valentine’s Day Fanart Contest Rules Thread *CLOSED*

Hiya. Anybody still using social media or drawing and not using AI? OK, cool. Drawing neat Meganman pics contest #17 for Lovey Dovey Day sponsored by me and stuff is go time. After last year was a little different, and went the gift exchange route, it's back to your regularly-scheduled competition this season. The deadline this year will be on Tues., Mar. 12th, 2024. Nearly a month AFTER Valentine's Day? Wh…why? Because I'm tired, and you all are too, that's why. Or, well, read on to find out. XD As is the usual norm, there are two categories this year, one for Talent and one for Humor. You are allowed to submit one entry for each category, if you would like. If you place in one category, you will be automatically disqualified from the other, for reasons of fairness, and to give other people a chance to win a prize.

CATEGORY 1 (Talent): Black and White Day

This year, good ol' Steamboat Willie, the first Mickey Mouse cartoon, went into public domain and people got somewhat excited about that. On top of games like Cuphead or Bendy and the Ink Machine, the retro look of 'Rubber Hose' animation has had a bit of a revival over recent years. You might even know a fellow Mega Man artist or two who has experimented with that style, or maybe even own a Mega Man shirt that has the pic above on it, as I do. So, for this year's talent category, your goal will be to create a beautiful monochrome piece in a retro Rubber Hose art style celebrating the pseudo-Valentine's holiday known as White Day. What is White Day? How would you draw something for it? If you've played X DiVE, you certainly know about the White Day outfits for characters such as Alia, Cinnamon or Axl. But here is a basic explanation via Wikipedia: "White Day is relatively new, created by the confectionery industry in Japan. White Day was first celebrated in 1978. It is celebrated one month after Valentine's Day, on March 14th. It started as an "answer day" to Valentine's Day on the grounds that men should pay back the women who gave them chocolate and other gifts on Valentine's Day. Men are expected to return gifts that are at least two or three times more valuable than the gifts received in Valentine's Day. The color white was chosen because it's the color of purity, evoking "pure, sweet teen love", and because it's also the color of sugar. Gift exchanges happen between romantic partners, friends, and coworkers. Traditionally, popular White Day gifts include food like white chocolate, marshmallows, candy, cookies, and other "white" accessories like jewelry, bags, lotions, and lingerie."

Content Requirements: * Mega Man characters of your choice celebrating White Day * Mimicking retro "rubber hose" art style (Eg: Steamboat Willie era Mickey Mouse, Betty Boop, Popeye, Cuphead, etc.) * Black and white/monochrome palette. Seeing as this is a Mega Man contest, a retro Game Boy screen-like greenish tint is acceptable. As it is for love, I will also accept a garish Virtual Boy reddish tint, if you are that daring. Otherwise, try to keep your art retro-looking, using black, white and grey. No full-color illustrations for this category. * As this is the talent category, judging will be primarily based on the effort, creativity & overall concept of your piece. How well you pull off the rubber hose style for your characters and how well your picture fits the White Day theme.

CATEGORY 2 (Humor): Showing Some Skins

If you are like me, you have a favorite skin/outfit in X DiVE and you never end up changing it out. It may not be Christmas or Halloween anymore, but you might be that person who always uses Christmas Ferham or Halloween Vile, regardless of the time of year. So, forget the Cupid costumes or giant teddy bear outfits this Valentine's. Create your own holiday skin/outfit you wish would have been implemented in DiVE, but it's being worn at the wrong time of year. For the humor category this year, I would like you to create a funny Valentine's day pic where some character is wearing the wrong holiday outfit/skin that kinda changes the whole mood of a romantic evening together. Then again, it may or may not kill the romance, and might enhance it. Whether it be St. Patrick's Day Toad Man driving Snake Man and Ophiuchus out of a candle-lit restaurant, Tron Bonne picking up her date on her Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Float Gustaff, Tax Day Armor X crunching numbers with Alia in bed while asking her if she plans to file single or jointly this year, or someone risking themselves for President's Day sexy Mr. Lincoln skin Proto Man, the romantic holiday mismatches are endless!

Content Requirements: * A Megaman character of your choice wearing any holiday-themed skin/outfit that does not really belong for Valentine's Day, in a Valentine's Day setting. * As this is the humor category, judging will be based primarily on how funny your piece is. Creativity, concept and execution may get you some bonus points. But the focus of this category is how well you make us laugh, not how technically skilled you are at art!

You Are Otterful Small Prints

A little something I made for Zipcon 2024 since it was the Saturday before Valentine’s Day.  The original was done in marker, and got a few touchups until I scanned it for printing. DAY 3 (ROMANTIC F/Os) - Edgeworth

💜 Sierra began working under Miles during an internship. She had studied law with the goal of eventually becoming a paralegal, but initially she opted for a position doing more generic clerical/secretarial work, rather than being directly involved with cases. It was partly because she wasn’t entirely sure if she wanted to do more than that, and partly to get a feel for the environment before making a decision anyway.

💜 Miles originally didn’t feel the need to take on any new hires, as he figured he was taking care of things in his office just fine. But certain cases began to take up more and more of his time and left little room for things like upkeep and organization. It was actually Detective Gumshoe who suggested he hire someone dedicated to taking care of the small stuff, so that he could focus on his more important tasks. (legend says that on this fateful day, Detective Gumshoe’s salary was raised for the first time in ages........)

💜 For a while she’s tasked with some pretty basic things - organizing files, fetching documents from down the hall, taking calls and occasionally some light cleaning. And despite Miles’s initial hesitation, his new intern actually did quite a fine job - and after some time, she proved to be pleasant company as well, which certainly didn’t hurt.

💜 It wasn’t long before Miles learned her goal of being a paralegal, which he encouraged her to pursue. Not only would it be largely the same as her job right now, but it would pay better and offer her a chance to actually use her knowledge from those law classes. She shows some hesitation of her own, but Miles insists that he wouldn’t suggest it if he thought she was incapable. His confidence in her ability is enough to get her to apply for a proper paralegal position at that office - and whose desk does her resume coincidentally land on a week later but his own...

💖 Before they had established their feelings, Miles once offhandedly mentioned how he's rarely met someone whose parents were both still around. Sierra informed him that hers are in fact still around, and…somehow, they both got roped into having a meal with Sierra’s family - something neither of them were particularly excited about. After lots of loud conversation, uncomfortable Italian generosity, and way too many questions about Miles’s marital status, they decided to never let that happen again (Meanwhile Miles accepts that nobody in his life is ever going to have a normal family/upbringing ksdjfhg)

💖 Even though interpersonal office relationships are…probably not a horribly condemnable thing in the Ace Attorney universe (looking at all the shipping the fandom does between legal professionals in the series dkjgf), they still feel the need to keep their mutual feelings somewhat hidden (but who are we kidding, almost everyone knows they like each other, they just take a billion years to figure it out and admit it dkjfhg) - Miles to keep his professional image, and Sierra because of implications that might come with wanting to date her own boss. Doesn’t mean they don’t have hilarious shiptease moments though 👀

💖 There’s almost certainly a point in time where they have to go on a fake date for the purposes of an investigation/following a case. May or may not include a panicked kiss to try and look natural as a person they’re following passes by dfjkg

💖 They absolutely have the ladder/stepladder conversation at some point. Maybe during an investigation she tags along in:

Edgeworth: This ladder wasn't here before. Sierra: Isn't that a stepladder, Mr. Edgeworth? Edgeworth: (...Why do I get the strange feeling that this exchange is going to become a long-running gag…?)

Welllll… Flowers are almost never a bad idea for a romantic gesture. Unless you don't know where they came from. (Seriously, the last time someone had flowers delivered here, they nearly took out Twist. I haven't been able to watch Little Shop of Horrors since…) But Synes is a very busy woman! I don't think she would have time to take care of a bouquet between her operations. Unless you count that "meat bouquet" she has been drooling over lately… (Why do they insist that it's a man's gift, anyway?! That "Manly Man" logo means nothing! A woman can drool over the thought of gobbling meat just as much as--Er…wait a minute… I-Ignore that!! Backspace, backspace!! WHY ISN'T THE BACKSPACE WORKING--)

A…Ahem… A-As for baking…? Muffins are a nice suggestion. Synes seems to have a little sweet tooth, so anything could work, really… Although I'd have to ensure nothing goes awry while I make it. We wouldn't want a repeat of last week... Diffusing an explosive cake isn't everyone's idea of a good birthday, even though some doctors may think so...

These are both fine ideas, Deary, and I very much appreciate your…eagerness to help, but I don't think I need any further assistance in wooing Synes. As though my beloved fuzzy slipper is not already all mine... Ehehehe...

Leader Maxie! Have you heard of the terrarium in Unova's Blueberry Academy? It has a tropical climate that houses many Camerupt up on a mountain! Maybe Cici could show you 👀

Why, yes, I certainly have heard of the Terarium. Sierra informed me immediately when she touched down in the Unova region as part of her recent studies, and no sooner did I receive an influx of photos she had taken of the facility. It was certainly the most excited I had seen her since her prior trip to the Kitakami region - and for good reason, I would say.

According to her reports, the Core that hangs from the center of the Terarium allows the Terastallization phenomenon to occur in the wild Pokémon there. Sierra has already integrated what she has learned of this phenomenon into her research regarding Mega Evolution, but it seems she's making even further headway after a…certain material was introduced to the Core.

I am not at liberty to disclose the source of this material, as doing so may land her into trouble, but I can share this information - and I am, in fact, being encouraged to… It seems she checked her inbox from her location as I was typing this response and gave me a phone call, in which she went on quite the ramble.

To condense it as much as possible, the resulting effect changed the Tera Type of some wild Pokémon into one that embodied aspects of all 18 currently-known types. The energy emitted from this new type is supposedly very similar to that of Mega Evolution, suggesting a much closer link between the two than we had originally thought.

That said, I am eager to see what more Sierra could learn from this facility in regards to her research. In fact, she said she planned to negotiate with the director of the academy about hiring me as a "special coach." Perhaps then I might see what all the fuss is about, especially regarding this tropical biome. It seems quite a number of the photos I've received take place there. And more still are self-portraits plastered in those sparkly filters…

DAY 4 (SELF LOVE)

Honestly it was difficult to find something to write positively about, because I tend to write out most of the things I don't like about myself when I make a self insert fjsdhf

…well okay, there is one thing I can think of. A handful of my self inserts, like myself, have Tourette’s Syndrome as part of their character. Sometimes I state it explicitly, other times it's very implicit and you have to really squint to figure it out. Even in fiction I don't like to draw much attention to it, which is why whenever I do include it, it's really never a central point of the story or something that gets pointed out often (and like 99% of the time I don't even namedrop it)

That being said, it's still a struggle in real life, and I'm sure I’m not the only one who's pictured how my f/os would support me in something like that. So, I figured I'd write about just that - all the self inserts I do have who share this condition and how their respective f/o would treat it.

Some I’ve put more thought into than others (and also some are shorter cause I got sick for a day while writing these kjdfhg) but I still like them all anyway c:

DAY 2 (PLATONIC F/Os)

I don't really list any characters as platonic F/Os, because while I imagine my self inserts are usually friends with several characters in their respective universes, the connection doesn't feel as strong as what I feel with my romantic F/Os. Like, we'd be friends but I just wouldn't call them an F/O (also partly because listing all of them as such would get complicated I think dkfjg)

That being said, there are still some characters besides my romantic F/Os that I've thought of scenarios and such for 👀 and that I think are just fun/interesting/etc for the story of my S/Is fjdhg

DAY 3 (ROMANTIC F/Os) - Link

(so far I've usually included a summary of how my s/i and f/o meet, but summarizing how Koci and Link meet/grow close through both BOTW and TOTK would take AGES even if I condense it fjdhfj so this one's just headcanons/tidbits instead)

💖 I like to think that Link picks up the lost woods melody he hums while cooking from Koci. He heard her sing it as they gathered materials in a nearby stretch of trees, and Koci catches him humming it sometimes and finds it adorable. He also eventually picks up the Minuet of Forest (although that one's not in the game gkdhg)

💖 The image of Koci waking up from a recurring nightmare during their travels, and a groggy but concerned Link pushing himself awake and climbing over to her to hold her close and lull her back to sleep. that's all

Afterword

The selfship Valentine's event is pretty much over, and this doesn’t fit in with any of the theme days anyway (and I know that’s fine but for this I mostly wanted to try and stick to the themes dkjfg) BUT… I wanted to say a few things about some certain F/Os that I didn’t get to during the event.

I love all of my F/Os dearly, but I have more of a history with some of them. And even fewer still held a deeper meaning to me before I even knew about the term “F/O.”

I think it began with Pit. My grandfather died in 2014, much earlier and more suddenly than expected. At the time, and for a short time before, I was very devoted to the religion I grew up with (of which he was also devoted to his whole life, up until around his death), and I had a lot of encouragement to continue this devotion from the one very good friend I had, who also shared this religion. This window of time also coincided with my first time playing Kid Icarus: Uprising, which I absolutely adored. And because of the way that I handle grief – isolating myself with the things and hobbies that I like – Pit could not have possibly been a more perfect source of comfort. An angel, a heavenly messenger who might help me say the things I never got to say to my grandfather, who might help me hear him back. Someone who would be my friend and hug me and say all the right things to me about death and grief and healing. It’s a little embarrassing to say but I’m tearing up a little as I write this. I didn’t selfship with Pit at this point - right now he was just the closest thing to a guardian angel I had, because I didn’t think I could take real solace in anything other than something like divine intervention.

I graduated high school half a year later in 2015. I had about a 1-2 year “break” period, and then was expected to start seriously considering work or more school. The fact that I am still tearing up about my grandfather’s death nearly a decade after it happened should give you an idea of how badly it affected me before, even if I had a hard time outwardly expressing it. I was not ready to continue life yet in the slightest, despite the well-meaning pressure from my parents (and I will never think of it as anything but well-meaning, just really poorly timed).

So when I was then introduced to Seduce Me – a visual novel featuring a protagonist whose beloved grandfather dies much earlier than he was supposed to, and despite her grief she is expected to continue her normal adult life at the behest of her parents (well, one parent), before finding solace in otherworldly/supernatural beings that just so happen to appear during this very dark point in her life – it’s safe to say it resonated with me immensely. It’s no wonder then that James became a new source of comfort for me, although this time around I felt comfortable self-shipping with him as well - Seduce Me is a player-insert romance game, after all.

The fact remained though that he served much the same purpose as Pit. It’s the reason why, in my Brother Husbands AU, James and Pit are the two main heads of the house besides myself (and in my Summoner AU, they’re the two beings my sona can summon with each hand: the angel and the demon). They’re the ones who have been here the longest, and they were integral to my healing process. (To a slightly lesser degree, that’s kind of also why I have them listed as “not comfortable sharing” in my F/O list... I think I’d feel kind of weird about it since they’re not just romantic faves to me.)

Needless to say I still haven’t fully recovered from this. That’s why I still include a deceased grandfather in some of my S/I’s backstories (or just keep it in, if it happens to a self-insert character in canon) – Seduce Me, Stardew Valley, Ace Attorney, and probably some others I’m forgetting right now. Incorporating it is a way for me to have more control over it, in a sense (I know realistically I could never have controlled what happened), and it helps me continue to process it in a way that’s comfortable to me.

I didn’t really think of an ending message to this post, so I’m not really sure what else to say, actually. I kind of just wanted to express how important some of my F/Os are to me beyond selfshipping, and I think it’s good if your F/Os bring you this sort of comfort for real-life stuff, too.

💖 Nico's whole thing is loving all of her just as she is. Not only would he not mind, he'd probably find it endearing. Every sound from her is like music to him because he’s clinging to every fragment of warmth and human connection that he can grasp in the dark.

ZEN

💖 Hyun adores every part of his beloved, and that includes even the things she’s embarrassed about like her tics. There's even a line he says in game that I've specifically taken wildly out of context to apply it to her tics and how he adores her for it jdfhg: “What was it like seeing me in person? Did I meet your expectations? It was better than I thought for me. I cherished everything about you. Every one of your gestures just made my heart jump…” 💖 sometimes I kick around an idea where she’s worried about Hyun (or herself) receiving unwanted media attention or coming under fire (cough echo girl cough) for her tics, and Hyun reassuring her that everyone can answer to him because he loves his girlfriend wholeheartedly, she’s the sun and the moon and the stars and if they have a problem with it then they can kiss the firmest part of his ass (but y’know…he says it a lot nicer than that dkfjg)

Sousuke

💖 Sousuke would tease her about it just a tiny bit, and in the most benign way (“...Plus, the way you even peep in your sleep is just–ahh, cute~!” // “Oh, come on, don't be so embarrassed! I bet I could get you to make other sounds too~) Also he's just a sunshiney guy, he'd be so purely supportive and absolutely chew out his friends or classmates if they picked on her fkdhg

Sans

💖 Man humans are weird. But they're kind of fascinating too. Sans has never met a human with something like this before, but it's kind of endearing. And when it gets to a point where she's comfortable about it with him, it's easy for him to crack a joke or two about it - but only if she cracks one about herself first.
