Well, my mind went down a weird rabbit hole brought upon by watching the Marsha, Queen of Diamonds episodes of Batman '66. Marsha, Queen of Diamonds was obviously a character riffing off the phrase "diamonds are a girl's best friend", which is a saying and a song. I tried listening to Marilyn Monroe sing it, and it was awful. I tried listening to Carol Channing's version, and it was far better. So that's led my incredibly flighty brain to just decide that Marilyn Monroe isn't that good. She never interested me. Her whole thing was being known for sex appeal in movies, but she leaves me cold and empty. Maybe that's because of my aegosexuality or something, but I just don't like her as much as some people do. So I don't know if that says anything about me, but I had to share it anyways (especially since this tangent was building up over all of the past few days).

It's a shame Penguin and Marsha Queen of Diamonds only teamed up the one time, to my memory. (There will be excited screaming if I'm wrong and they team up again at some point before show's done)
The individual sexual energy of both could level fucking buildings but their combined vibe is professional business partners and it's hysterical. They're both so DTF anyone to get their way... But not each other, villainy is serious business and there's no time for that.

Round 3, Match 4:
Tumblr media
Portrayed by Frank Gorshin and appearing as the first villain in the series, the Riddler remains as one of the most notable rogues to emerge from the 1960s Batman series. In his second appearance, the Riddler teamed up with the River Rat Gang in order to steal jewels and kidnap a visiting king in exchange for rasom money. While he threatens to blow up the Gotham City Museum if he doesn’t receive the ransom, he also agrees to deactivate the explosives when he believes he has gotten it, and had begun to do so before realizing the Dynamic Duo had gotten there first. This two-parter also sees some pretty heigtened theatrics from the Riddler, from turning back to taunt Batman with his knowledge that the decoy crown was fake to declaring himself “The Prince of Puzzlers, the Count of Conundrums, the King of Crime!” in response to Mousey’s claim never to have met royalty, to letting loose with a wild cackle that would have made Hamill’s Joker proud. I’d also argue that Riddler’s second appearance was one of the better showcases of his rapport with his henchmen, sinc we see more extensive interactions with all the River Rats, as opposed to his work with the Molehill Mob, where he primarily interacted with Molly.
If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, then Marsha is the girl in question. Styling herself the Queen of Diamonds, she worked with her Aunt Hilda, who created various potions for her. One such potion enabled her to hypnotize people so that she could pull off massive diamond thefts, at one point nearly hypnotizing Batman and successfully hypnotizing Robin. Holding the Boy Wonder hostage, she nearly forced Batman into a marriage with her, which would have enabled her to find his secret identity and the location of the Batcave. In a later appearance, she worked with the Penguin to steal gold, as well as planning to appear in a movie he directed, which probably contributed to the tendency in some fanfictions to have them on friendly terms. She would later enjoy a few appearances in the spinoff comic as well.

Ep. 57-58: Marsha, Queen of Diamonds / Marsha's Scheme of Diamonds
Tumblr media
Villana: Marsha, Queen of Diamonds

For some reason, and I know its late, but can someone please go and explain Saint Patricks Day to Young Marsha?
I think it would be funny and interesting.

This distinctive pearl necklace was designed by Joseff of Hollywood, who created jewelry for many films during Hollywood’s Golden Age. Because Joseff was not contracted to a particular studio, he was able to rent out his pieces to all of the film studios.
The above necklace first appeared on Kay Francis as Donna Lucia d’Alvadorez in the 1941 adaptation of Charley’s Aunt. In 1945 it appeared on Marsha Hunt as Constance Scott in The Valley of Decision. The following year saw it worn on the neck of Nella Walker as Mrs. Lawrence Tyburt Patterson Sr. in Two Sisters from Boston. 1947’s Northwest Outpost used it on Lenore Ulric as Baroness Kruposny. Ilona Massey was next to wear the piece as Madame Egelichi in the 1949 Love Happy.
In the 1952 adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s novel My Cousin Rachel, Olivia de Havilland wore the necklace as Countess Rachel Sangalletti Ashley, and it features somewhat in the plot of the production. Richard Burton’s character gives the necklace to Rachel as a symbolic gesture that he wishes to marry her, which sets the remainder of the story into motion. The passage in the novel describing the necklace says:
There were four strands. They fastened around the neck like a band, with a single diamond clasp.
The description in the novel obviously does not match its representation on screen, but it is a beautiful necklace nonetheless.
Finally, in 1987, the necklace was seen on Joan Collins’ character Alexis Carrington Colby in the episode of Dynasty entitled The Fair.
The necklace eventually went up for auction at Julien’s Auctions in the 2017 Joseff of Hollywood: Treasures from the Vault. The action describes the piece as:
A triple-strand, tiered necklace of alternating simulated diamonds and pearls with pearl drops. The necklace has four simulated mabe pearl medallions and is stamped on the back “Joseff Hollywood.”

Round 2, Match 5:
Tumblr media
With a love of hats (and only hats—the Alice obsession would not be added into the comics until later) Jervis Tetch alias Mad Hatter made his debut in the series seeking revenge against the jury that convicted him, stealing their hats and, ah, possibly intending to make them into hats. But his chief interest, which persisted throughout the rest of his appearances, was to steal Batman’s cowl, from using trickery to try and get him to remove it to making the cowl radioactive so he would have to take it off. Simultaneously one of the creepiest and most charismatic rogues, the Mad Hatter’s primary weapons were his instant mesmerizer, hidden in his hat, and the dangerous equipment of his hat factory. Both of his appearances in the series were directly based on issues of the comics. The comic spinoff would later see him retconned as the brother of Clock King.
