Archie's Prophecies

Not paying attention or opting to keep it a time capsule document, they kept "First Man on the Moon" in 1988 -- switched out from the green, though. They kept Ophelia in -- kind of awkwardly big head Ethel when they do swap her in. They dropped "lady" out of "lady wrestler" only in this century, and given the division of the page should be self evident. On the last one, we are four years off from Margaret Chase Smith's presidential run, and also 88 years after Victoria Woodhull's.

Happy thanksgiving, my partners and I are watching this chaos

I liked the part with the air knife.

Five Martians that look remarkably like humans in stupid spandex suits arrive on Earth and declare that they need human women to repopulate their planet. Surely this is the setup for a sleazy, exploitative B-movie that will contain some great laughs and ridiculous writing, no? No.

Instead they put on suits and ties (the tie particularly bothers them not because they don't understand it, but because Martians stopped wearing them fifty years ago, of course) and the wander around Texas awkwardly. One of them finds Yvonne Craig and, like anyone with eyes, falls in love with her immediately. The rest of them just sort of stalk women creepily and then I guess hypnotise them or something? I don't even know what happened to the other women, because they simply never appear again.

The funniest part of the movie was when the government held a meeting to discuss that three women had gone missing in the last 12 hours and it obviously must be alien abductions, as though any government agency operates that quickly or accurately. They then described the women as "built like goddesses" in their official brief, before working out exactly where the Martian UFO is based on basically nothing at all.

The problem with Mars Needs Women is that, despite the attention catching title, it isn't sleazy or horny or ridiculous enough to entertain. It's just a dull slog of a movie that isn't worth watching.

Veronica Mars could have started with Veronica vowing never to get married and ended with her marrying Logan Echolls. That is, if Rob understood the beauty of the story we were watching and weren't so desperate to force it to become the grimdark story he couldn't tell on the UPN.
