86 years ago today Orson Welles terrified a nation.

The 1938 radio broadcast of The Mercury Theatre on the Air's War of The Worlds is my favorite version of the story.

I love the George Pal version from 1953 version. It's my favorite film adaptions.

Who among you has heard the radio broadcast? I've listen to it every year around this time since I first heard it when I was 10 years old. Counting the repeated listening and yearly Halloween tradition I've easily listen to it hundreds of times.

As far as the film version I imagine like myself. Most of you consider the 1953 film the best film adaptions.

If not I'd love to know which you love the most.

I don't think I'll ever talk about this anywhere else, but I like 2 believe that the mains twisted forms are based on phobias

- Vee is scopophobia (fear of eyes), because of her status as a gameshow host and her personality being boastful (see also her ads: "look at me!")

- Sprout is anthropophagusphobia (fear of cannibals), because of his whole thing about being a food AND a baker, I think it fits if he was just eating the dead bodies of toons in his twisted state

- Shelly is necrophobia (fear of dead things), because her whole thing is with history and I personally believe that the ichor rearranging her spine into dinosaur skeleton and her body is a completely limp entity from that ichor, implies that she is playing dead (or smt like that)

I don't have very many good ideas for what the rest of the mains would be, so feel free 2 drop some suggestions! (I'll also draw my twisted main designs eventually :3)

Gods this reminds me of when I worked in assisted living and a resident fell in the hall going to their room and myself and a few cnas and nurses were tending to them/the scene and obviously the resident was a bit distressed and was in pain and was crying and a visitor that was visiting another resident started filming and boy I’m not normally a yelled but I had no problem yelling that day. Like we get it, they’re crying loudly, and you’re trying to have a nice visit with your family member, and we get it can be distressing to hear but we’re taking care of the problem. We don’t need you jumping in and filming about how bothersome it is. Like do you not know where you are? While we take absolutely every precaution and step possible to prevent falls, falls can still happen! And falls can be scary and painful for the resident. So yeah, they may cry, or scream, or yell. But, when we-the staff-are there taking care of it we don’t need you in the way filming everything. We’ve got it taken care of. Like the moment I got off the phone with 911 I turned and started yelling at them. Like, this is a violation of the resident’s right to privacy and dignity! You’re in the way! And you’re making an even bigger scene! You’re distracting those of us trying to take care of everything! Stop it! Just stop! I just couldn’t imagine filming someone having a medical emergency, or just filming strangers in general.

Listen, you should never film strangers in public without their consent, but I swear there need to be fines or something for people who do that shit in some spaces. For example: I had to go to the ER last night, and some jerk filmed a woman who just came in and was clearly having an asthma attack. She immediately got to go back, and he was unhappy about that. Believe me, I get that it sucks having to wait when you're in pain, but you don't get to pick who deserves care when. The medical system in the US is a nightmare, and the ER could be the worst moment of someone's life. No one deserves to be recorded because some jack ass believes someone doesn't look like they need care.

This is fine to reblog. People who film strangers should be shamed if nothing else.

when i say percy is one of the only people in the world who will stand up to annabeth or call her wrong, i do NOT mean she’s a horrible person and he calls her out for being one. allow me to write a long incorrect quote scene to show you what i actually mean:

annabeth, fiercely in control and leaning over a large map: okay, here’s what’s gonna happen, everyone. we are going to evenly distribute our forces and deploy them in successive waves. we must avoid further division to ensure that each wave remains strong and concentrated on the central target. we are going to systematically weaken their core. once their primary fleet becomes depleted, we will expand our focus to engage secondary targets. we will defeat brute force by gradually eroding their strength over the course of several hours. anyone got a problem with that plan?

percy: i get what you’re saying, and usually you’d be exactly right. but i know these guys better than you do, wise girl. i’ve actually been here and fought a couple of them before. yes, they are insanely physically strong creatures, but you’re overestimating their intelligence and positioning. if we do what you’re saying, they’ll just pick us off little by little. we need to be quick and dirty. force their hand

annabeth, pinching the bridge of her nose: percy, you’re talking about a full frontal assault on their strongest point. that’s reckless. we’ll be outnumbered and overwhelmed.

percy, stepping closer to the map and pointing to the terrain: not if we use their terrain, which i personally know. if we concentrate our forces here and here, we can create the illusion of a weaker center. they’re crazy strong, but much more arrogant than you’re assuming. so knowing them, they’ll all focus on our main assault, assume they have us outnumbered, and put all their energy into trying to punch through. but if we’ve got our best fighters hidden in the valleys, instead of holding back, we can hit them from both sides once they commit

annabeth, her brow furrowing as she considers percy’s plan: we’d be baiting them into a trap. they’d think they’re winning, but the second they overextend, we surround them. they won’t see it coming because of the way their ranks are arranged.

annabeth: it’s based off the assumption of their own tactical shortcomings, but… it’s brilliant. come here and show me all the pathways, and i’ll plan for the side attacks. do you have any advice there?
