Despicable Minions (DM AU) - Another dilemma approached... (Wild Knuckles)

Do you know that feeling when you've just solved one problem in your AU and eventually realized there's another, even bigger one?

I've been searching on Google lately and randomly came across this wiki site:

No need to be worried tough, I have a plan and I am NOT GOING TO REWRITE INFO/BACKSTORY TO WILD KNUCKLES IN MY AU! At least for now...

So, here is my solution:

If you read one of my previous posts, you'll find an information that Gru in my AU was lying about his name to look better among villains and he did the same with his connection to Henry Wilde/Wild Knuckles:

Gru's maternal grandfather had the same name and surname as Wild Knuckles but he was just some very rich guy (he wasn't a supervillain like Madeleine), unlike Gru's idol.

Also, Wild Knuckles was pretty private about his family (even Belle didn't know all his relatives - she only knew Knuckles' son and daughter-in-law through TV and the newspaper) and the fact Gru viewed him as his grandfather made him feel happier, so it was no surprise that he agreed on Gru saying in the villainous public that his grandpa is none other than Wild Knuckles.

Actually, Gru's whole family tree is a fake one made by Marlena to hide the fact who Gru's father and brother are.

Some other differences between Gru's biological grandfather and Wild Knuckles in my AU:

Gru's grandfather had black hair and blue eyes and Wild Knuckles had ginger hair and brown eyes;

Gru's grandfather didn't know his wife is a villain, Nora (Wild Knuckles' wife in my AU) was aware of it (and she was slightly connected to villainy, as well);

Gru's grandfather had a daughter and two grandsons (obviously) and Wilde Knuckles had one son (Herb) and two granddaughters (Ruby and Bianca) - I don't count Belle simply because she's not related by blood to Wild Knuckles;

Their outfits were also far way different: Gru's grandfather was an uptight man with a royalty, wealthy-like style while Wild Knuckles had much more modern-styled outfit preferences - this also includes their signature colors, which were blue (Gru's grandfather) and red (Wild Knuckles).

The fact Dru wanted to meet Gru and his family only, not Marlena nor he even asked about her in the movie, and Gru only heard that his dad was a villain and didn't ask anything after that, proves how much their parents fucked them up to the point where they don't even care about them, they just want to get to know each other.

Profiles in Villainy

Gru

The infamous super villain, Felonius Gru, is the son of Marlena and the late Robert Gru.  Taking after his father, Felonius established himself as a renown criminal of epic proportions.  Among his many evil accomplishments were the stealing the jumbotron from Times Square, as well as pilfering the replicas of the Statue of Liberty and Eiffel Tower from the Las Vegas Strip.  He has been aided in his various schemes by the brilliant inventor, Dr. Nefario, and a legion of artificially generated puckish servants known as The Minions.

Seeking to become the greatest super villain of all time, Gru set out to steal the Moon.  In order to do so, he needed to first obtain a powerful shrink ray from the fellow villain, Vector.  In the course of this caper, Gru found himself having to care for three orphan children named Margo, Edith, and Agnes.  

At first, Gru was annoyed and irritated by the antics of these three little girls.  Yet their sweetness, innocence and need for care gradually caused Gru to warm to them.  Gru had been terribly bullied as a child as well as neglected by his own parents.  The chance to offer these girls the happy childhood that he never had but so desperately wanted brought about a change in Gru.  He ultimately decided to abandon villainy and formerly adopted the trio.  

This brought about very possessive changes in Gru’s life.  Although he is never able to become the world’s greatest villain, he is much happier and fulfilled.  He went on to marry Lucy Wilde and along with their daughters and the scores of Minions, he was able to create a warm and happy family.  

Actor Steve Carell provides the voice for the former villain.  Felonius Gru first appeared in the 2010 animated feature, Despicable Me.

I would kill for a scene where Junior is crying and Gru has a flashback to his young self crying while Marlena ignores him. Flash forward to the present—Gru tenderly comforts his baby, vowing never to treat him the way he was treated 😭

Random Valorant Headcanons to start the new year with

It's already past midnight for me so I thought I'd share these to mark the start of a new year! Enjoy

Breach fluently speaks German and even picked up some Bavarian. He and Killjoy, sometimes communicate and joke in Bavarian with each other just to confuse their fellow agents.

Yoru likes to play ninja when no one is looking. Only Omen ever witnessed him do it.

Viper once fed a human finger to her Snake, just to see what happens.

Sova and Reyna hang out a lot. Like, they don't like each other, and would most likely kick the other down the stairs, but occasionally just chill around and talk about the things they don't like.

They also hunt each other for sport.

Jett, Phoenix and Yoru once printed a bunch of life sized paper cutouts of Chamber, and placed them all over the HQ. A few of them had their head missing.

Reyna has a very specific way of walking when she's angry, which some of the agents picked up on, and know when you dodge the corridor when they here her approaching.

Cypher can crack each and every joint in his body.

Breach, Brim and Sova eat tangerines whole. Sova didn't know you can peel them, while Breach and Brim simply decide not to (power move)

Phoenix has a Japanese tattoo on his waist, that's supposed to say "Phoenix" but actually writes "Fire Chicken". Yoru won't let him live it down.

Breach has a tattoo that he doesn't remember getting. It's a badly drawn small star right on his arse cheek.

Some of the agents once brought a trampoline into the Protocol, that got confiscated by Brimstone and Sage. Viper caught them using it.

Sova once actually had a pet Owl, when he was still known as Filin. It died on a mission, which led to Sova making his Owl Drone.

The Owl was named Czar.

Reyna can perfectly impersonate Sofia Vergara, and Jett and Neon LOVE it.

Chamber has mommy issues. His mother never really took interest in his achievements, hobbies or designs. (Think Marlena Gru from Despicable me. "Eh")

Astra knows how to ice skate.

Because of his arms, Breach didn't know how to tie his shoes, till his mid twenties. Raze taught him how to, and loves telling people about it because she thinks it's cute.

Despicable Minions (DM AU) - Gru and Dru

I needed to take a break from making designs of OCs from my DM AU (+ working on my other AUs & own universes), so I decided to finish the artworks of the characters that I’ve already shown on Discord. 

And why not start with our beloved protagonist Gru and his twin brother Dru?

Say hello to Grucian “Gru” Felonius Gru-Wilde (he/him), the AVL agent and a founder of a Reformation Program for Supervillains, and Andrew “Dru/Drew” Robert Gru (he/him), Gru's twin brother, as well as one of the first supervillains who started attending Gru's program. 

Important: In Despicable Minions (my DM AU), I’ve done some changes, including adjustments of the timeline, ages and, most importantly, I made a great change in Gru’s name. 

It has always annoyed me that everyone is addressing him with his surname, so I made it the way you could have read upper… Let’s say Marlena and Robert weren’t very creative when naming their son.

Marlena had the fucking stomach to say that she got the worse twin when she and her husband divorced. The bitch would've hated Dru just the same. Abusive parents always do everything to excuse their abuse. I hate her so fucking much.

It might seem crazy what I'm 'bout to say, but...

Recently I brought up two thoughts about Despicable Me 4 with a friend of mine over on Discord, specifically about Gru Jr. In fact, I've been thinking about it for a few days now, but it does tie into an idea I've been obsessed with to the point that I wrote a fanfic related to it.

… Namely, that Gru's son will be someone special, and that he probably will be an AVL agent when he grows up. Probably in a hypothetical sequel/spin-off series that I personally like to call "Agent Gru" (creative, I know, but just stick w/ me).

Now I know that the movie hasn't been out yet, and that this post could possibly be rendered moot in the future, but why don't we indulge in some speculation, shall we?

Thought #1:

Okay, this is more of an observation than anything, but I found it interesting that Gru Jr. has blue eyes and red hair, just like his father and mother respectively. I've done a bit of digging, and I found out that blue eyes + red hair is apparently a very rare combination of eye color + hair color traits. According to this article, about 0.17% of the human population has this combination, making Jr. unique in that regard.

(I even joked that the powers that be in the Despicable Me/Minions universe saw Gru's family and, after Gru and Lucy did it, really said: "You shall be blessed with a son, and so you shall have children with all of the natural hair colors." Additionally, the powers that be also decided that said son should win the genetics lottery and gave him a rare combination of traits. Which leads me to a question: if red hair is a recessive trait, what part of Gru's side of the family had red hair that led him to be a carrier of that recessive gene? I'm probably just overthinking it, but it's something interesting to think about, y'know?)

Ofc, there's also the possibility that the hair color/eye color might change as he grows up, but I digress.

tl;dr Gru's son is special because of his unique combination of phenotypes.

Which sort of leads into…

Thought #2:

Okay, here's the real meat of my crazy idea/speculation, and it starts with an observation of two characters from DM1 and DM2.

Remember Vector? (DM1)

Or Antonio? (DM2)

You notice any similarities between these two?

If not, I'll say it.

Vector is the biological son of Mr. Perkins.

And Antonio is the biological son of Eduardo Perez aka El Macho.

And bc Rule of Three seems to be in order, Gru Jr. is the biological son of Gru, thus three supervillains (well, more like two villainous characters and one who turned good anyway) are fathers with biological sons.

But wait! That's not the most interesting observation that I have about them. It's actually…

… Where the sons fall on the morality scale, though it's currently debatable where Jr. will lie. So get this.

Vector is a full-on villain, as he's the main antagonist of DM1

I see Antonio as the "neutral" son, bc he's not exactly villainous like his dad; the worst he does is break Margo's heart in DM2, but otherwise he's kinda a normal kid

Which leads me to this idea: what if Gru Jr. is the "good" son of the trio? Like…

I can't see him becoming a villain like his dad once was (remember that Gru stole things in order to try and impress his neglectful mother!), and seeing how he acts around Lucy and how she seems to handle the kids (she's better than Marlena ofc), I kinda see him as a bit of a momma's boy rather than someone with mommy issues like his dad once did. Overall, he's born into a loving family whose members care for each other very much to where the only realistic reason as to why he would become bad is through a bad outside influence.

At the bare minimum, he'll grow up to be an ordinary guy w/ an ordinary life, but I honestly can't see that bc 1) his family circumstances don't exactly add up to an ordinary life (his parents are AVL agents for one thing) and 2) unless Illumination gets tired of the DM/Minions 'verse, I can't see them settling on an ordinary character as a protagonist. I mean, can you imagine if Jr. was the head of a jelly/jam business just like what Gru was trying to do at the start of DM2?

In other words, I don't really believe he'll be a villain or an ordinary guy. Like, there's little to nothing that could possibly lead him to either of those paths, unless something drastic happens in 4 or in another movie that has him. I think it's more likely he'll be actively on the side of good and be smth like an AVL agent like his parents. Plus, and I know this might be a bit harsh in regards to the girls, but I can (realistically) see him being the next-gen main character of the series. At the same time, though, I do hope that he gets to interact w/ his older sisters in DM4 and beyond (whatever that'll be like); hell, in the fic that I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I imagined him and Edith to be in the AVL, with Edith being like a weapons/gadget specialist like Q from James Bond with an additional enthusiasm for fighting (and I also imply that she might've taught him a few things along the way, such as fighting skills).

Oh, and one last thing: considering that Jr. has a scarf like his protagonist parents (I don't count minor characters w/ scarves like Antonio here), it's likely that he will be a protagonist in DM4 and possibly even future movies after it. (Apparently having one automatically gives you a high chance to be a protag in this 'verse? I joke, but y'know…)

So… yeah. Sorry for the long post, but I just had to get this off my chest since it's been nagging me for a little while now.

I have this hc that Marlena actually likes Lucy a lot and cares about her daughter in law more than his own son lol

here are a few ideas of mine:

- she would always ask how lucy is doing and scolds gru to always take care of his wife

- Lucy would often try to speak up or defend Gru against Marlena’s insults or mockery but Marlena is very nonchalant about it as if she doesn’t really heard

- when marlena found out about Lucy’s pregnancy, she was very vocal about how the baby should look more like Lucy than Gru

- Lucy would sometimes call Marlena during her pregnancy for any tips or advice

- Marlena would look over the gurls or pick them up from school when the Lucy and Gru are preoccupied by a mission

- Marlena and Gru does become a bit closer ever since the girls and Lucy came to their life.

Maybe it’s her old age making her sentimental but Marlena may just be very proud that his son finally as a family of his own and has become a great father and husband.

[putting my thinking cap on] if gru is the surname and marlena is estranged from her husband and doesnt want her kid finding out abt him its likely she wld use her maiden name for herself and her kid. ergo felonius gru is based on marlenas maiden name and NOT her husbands. therefore dru would NOT have the surname gru and instead smth else making his name like. a little less weird.
