“Joly will go to Dupuytren’s clinical lecture, and feel the pulse of the medical school.”
Puns are serious in politics.
More seriously, this chapter is nice in how it shows Enjolras’ love for his friends. He knows them really well, as demonstrated by their assignments. Courfeyrac, for instance, gets to utilize his social skills and general friendliness with the students who have the day off, whereas Joly gets to talk to fellow medical students and Bossuet gets to handle the law students. Picpus seems to have been a working class neighborhood with many craftsmen, suiting Combeferre’s curious nature. La Glacière was where ice was collected in winter to store for summer, so we can assume this was also a working class area suited to Feuilly, just as the Romantic Prouvaire is suited to a masonic lodge.
I tried to find information on the Cougourde, but the text for this chapter came up instead.
While it’s nice to see Enjolras’ knowledge of his friends from an emotional perspective, it also illustrates that he’s a good leader, utilizing each of their strengths to further their cause. He even remembers (and accurately describes) Marius, who doesn’t even show up anymore!
Grantaire may scold Enjolras as an “ingrate” here, but he did call republican ideas “twaddle,” so Enjolras is justified in being skeptical of him. The allusions in what Grantaire says are mainly to writings from the time of the French Revolution or that were very influential in it (like Rousseau’s Social Contract). The Hébertists were a radical group during the Revolution. He errs in saying the “constitution of the year Two” (there were constitutions for years I and III, but not II), but I believe he paraphrases the Declaration of the Rights of Man? So Grantaire does know what he’s talking about; he just isn’t making much of a point. As we’ve seen with his other speeches, he’s clearly well-educated from the breadth of what he alludes to, but he’s not really motivated politically.
The Robespierre waistcoat is such a dramatic touch.
And not to say too much about Enjolras loving his friends, but this!!:
“He composed, in his own mind, with Combeferre’s philosophical and penetrating eloquence, Feuilly’s cosmopolitan enthusiasm, Courfeyrac’s dash, Bahorel’s smile, Jean Prouvaire’s melancholy, Joly’s science, Bossuet’s sarcasms, a sort of electric spark which took fire nearly everywhere at once.”
He cares so much!

I 100000% think he's Marius and he's in disguise. Kinda like how they did Rashid/Armand , they're going to do it again.
He's doing one episode this season and will be promoted to a series regular for 3 and 4 (if renewed) (source x).
He appears to be Daniel's friend in this clip and I really do think they're going to suprise everyone with another vampire reveal with this guy espeically since they said Armand's past will be explored this season (source x) I really think this ties into that he is Marius.
Justin Kirk's friend, Rolin Jones, is the showrunner and I don't think he'd give his friend a minor part. He cast him in a significant role for Perry Mason after just one episode in s1.
Annoymous Content produce the IWTV and they are the same company that represents Justin Kirk. Might mean nothing, might do.
Anyway...I look like this and I know it.

what acting work of Justin Kirk would you recommend to watch to see best of his acting? :)
Ohhh that is a good question, and I'm not sure I'm the right person to ask.
I went through his filmography and realized I have seen him in a lot over the years.
However, I have mostly seen him in other series (Modern Family, Blacklist, Pretender, and so on), some earlier movies. I heard "Angels in America" is good, but haven't seen that one yet. Weeds wasn't exactly my niche, so I didn't watch that. Perry Mason is still on my watch list, haven't gotten around to it.
In preparation for IWTV... I would (as said before) recommend watching "Succession". If you haven't yet, all 4 seasons, though Justin is just in the fourth, iirc. But Eric is also in it :)
Justin plays the suave, very much fascist US presidential candidate there.
I really like this quote by him, it seems very tongue-in-cheek:
"After many of years of getting cast in sweet, angelic roles, I'm finally getting to play closer to my real life as a horrible person."
:)))
I just feel he'd have a blast being Marius.
Soooo. Sorry, I think I'm not particularly helpful there? But maybe others can recommend more of him or want to add on here?

Note from Return Fire
This interview was conducted in 2021, but a frequently cutting-out internet connection heavily marred the audio version it was first released as, leading to much frustration and repetition during the conversation, which has here been edited out. Doubtless much richness was lost in the parts that were untranscribable from the original, but we hope this version will extend the reach and audience for this perennial conversation.
As the interviewing host stated, “I think it’s really important that we have these discussions, especially now when I think a lot of environmental movements that have limited themselves to this type of non-violence are starting to show their limitations and their failings, so it’s really important that we push a better alternative; both in words, but also in actions, in showing these things in practice.”
With recent groups such as This Is Not a Drill[1] emerging in the UK – yet still with a code of non-violence, albeit having discarded the idiotic categorisation of property damage as violence – we think it’s as necessary as ever to promote a vision of struggle which (no matter what tactics we use) ties us back into our histories, and forms a bridge to our comrades and allies fighting in other lands. We want such groups to continue, gain experiences and perspectives to share, and also that they can benefit from the collective knowledge built up over generations and generations of struggles, which the newest iteration of the ‘climate justice movement’ has often failed to heed or integrate.
To this end we present this transcription; additionally, as any movement which forgets the prisoners in the end forgets the struggle itself, this is now released to coincide with the annual International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners.[2] Let’s not forget jailed eco-defence fighters like Marius Mason, whose participation in the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) of two decades past reveals much wisdom to absorb from that cycle of action, reaction and repression. (Regarding the topic of this interview, a recommended resource for how that conversation played out during those years can be found in the article ‘The Telescope or the Kaleidoscope: A Critique of the ELF’, specifically regarding the non-violence code of the latter.)
Lastly, please refer to the end of the text for the details of prisoners from last year’s Kill the Bill riot in Bristol:[3] people who were on the streets and often fighting back to defend the conditions for even ‘non-violent’ action.

Source: the Los Angeles Herald 5 February 1918 Why do they call Gavroche a little hunchback? They are mixing up their V Hugo stories.
“Over There” at the Fox studios, an entire cross-section of old Paris, a huge part of the city consisting of nine blocks, was brought into actual existence for one scene in “Les Miserables,” William Farnum’s greatest picture, which is to be shown at Miller’s, starting next Sunday. The cost to Mr. Fox, by the way, was close to $50,000. Immediately the site was selected the enormous facilities of the Fox producing organization were called into play; orchitects [sic] familiar with the period were consulted; carpenters and masons were set to work; the property department was given a huge list of things it was to furnish, and the business of building Paris proceeded with speed and accuracy. It was months in the making, and when Mr. Fox and Frank Lloyd, under whose direction “Les Miserables” was filmed, and William Farnum impersonated Jean Valjean, saw it completed — a tangible thing standing, or rather spread out before them — they agreed it was well worth the time, trouble and money expended. Nothing was neglected; nothing overlooked, and no detail, however small, had been counted unimportant. There were the cobble streets — the cobbles were not new, they were old and worn by the constant passing of many heavy laden carts, and in the streets were ruts and holes worn by years of never ceasing traffic: and there were drains set down in hollows that the streets of Paris might not be overfull of puddles. There were the houses with their gabled roofs and little second story balconies; the stores and cafes, particularly the Cafe Corinthe. And to the people this “reproduced Paris” there was a motly [sic] and interesting assemblage. One thousand people roamed the streets, sat before cafes to drink and gossip, went about their tasks, many of them building barricades behind which to fight for fraternity and equality, for revolution was in the air and later was to flame into savage fighting in the streets. Jean Valjean was there; Javert the police inspector, who hounded him; Marius, who loved Cosette; Eipone [sic], the street girl, who loved him; the little hunchback who went over the barricades to gather bullets, and a thousand others, each doing his bit and best to make the picturization of “Les Miserables” a notable achievement.
