💕Oc Valentines Day Challenge 2024 💕 Day One: First Love

For the first day of the challenge, we've gotta do first love! Make something for your oc and their first love.

Marigold Baggins didn’t think about love, well at least when it came to courting and romantic relationships. She wasn’t considered the most desirable lady in the shire, nor the most respectable. So, Marigold was more focused on exploring and dreaming about an adventure. One day a certain gray wizard ended up granting her wish, but what she didn't expect was to fall in love on that adventure.

Character birthdays.

I am actually fond of coming up with specific birthdays for my characters if they don't already have dates in canon, and I like to make them momentous and in keeping with their personalities from an astrological standpoint -- though I don't put any serious stock in astrology. Thus, without further ado:

Frodo: Sept 22, known in canon. Virgo, like Mr. Nisilë!

Marigold: Nov 5. Scorpio, like me! ("Remember, remember, the fifth of November." Also the day after the liberation from the Lockholes).

Éomer: May 9. Taurus. (Ok, this is actually a whole Thing. 5/8 and 5/9 are celebrated in Europe as "Victory Day," or VE day for short in the UK. It is the day that Germany declared its unconditional surrender in WWII. The reason for the date difference is that the unconditional surrender came in shortly after midnight on 5/9 in Eastern Europe. Since I believe that Rohan is a biiiiit Eastern Europe coded, in addition to the obvious Anglo Saxon vibes, I went with 5/9. I also like the numbers 5 and 9 aesthetically. Overall, a birthday on Victory Day is fitting because he led his people to victory, even though it's not the date of any specific victory in Tolkien's world).

Lothíriel: 12/21. Sagittarius, though technically Sagittarius-Capricorn cusp. (Winter Solstice, the darkest day of the year. She is an archer, and it goes well with the tsundere thing she has going on, and her dark hair).

Now, the next step in the madness is to actually celebrate the birthdays of these characters on my blog, even if the birthdays are completely made up for everyone except Frodo. What do you think? Should I do that?

FANFIC VLOG #1: KING AND LIONHEART - A MARRIAGE DAY IN THE SHIRE

Hi everyone, and welcome to another world!

This is my first Fanfic Vlog, theme is Lord of the Rings, and the absolute gayness of its main hobbit characters... Jokes aside, I recently rewatched The Lord of the Rings movies, and it finally stuck with me how queer-coded Sam and Frodo are, and how PERFECT they are as a couple. 🥰

I am not exactly a Tolkien fan (I really admire him as a writer and worldbuilder, but I never delved too much into his lore and genealogy, which... is kind of a lot), but I researched as much as I could to be accurate to the masterful work this one man did, and sure enough, I hope I did a good work. Also, I can't get enough of the Shire.... It's just too perfect!!! Hence why I wrote this down thinking of the movies' timeline, where nobody DARED to touch this safe haven of a land, and it didn't hear but echoes from the war with Sauron... 🥲

So here's my first complete fanfiction ever, named after one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard, courtesy by Of Monsters And Men, featuring my personal take on a different ending for Sam and Frodo, one I hope you'll enjoy as much as I did as I was writing it down! 🤩

Edit: I was today years old when I realised the original song name is King and Lionheart, and not just Lionheart... oh, well. Now that it's fixed, it fits even better story and characters themselves! 😅

Oh, Frodo totally has a kink, and it's short, curvy, sweet-faced girls with soft blonde hair who are really good at cooking, who wear floral dresses and smell like flowers and honey and like to hear about elves and dwarves.

The last part was unfortunately missing from most girls in the Shire, until he met Marigold.

He also really likes lace and intricate embroidery, which is a slight spoiler for what's coming in FoM.

In the modern day, he'd be a pinup guy or a maid/nurse fetish guy. He secretly does like being taken care of and pampered, though he would never admit it. This is partly because he did not get enough maternal attention when he was young, since his mom passed away early.

Also breasts. He’s quite the breast guy. (Again, dearth of mommy attention). Another slight spoiler.

Marigold, on the other hand, really likes the smell of leather and paper, as well as dreamy, tall, aloof gentlemen with refined accents.

Genuinely I think one of the best things you can do to build characters in your story is give them a kink. You do not have to put that kink in the story. You do not have to tell anyone but yourself. But thinking about their wants and needs and what would bring them comfort or desire, about whether they crave power or crave a situation where they're blessedly free from any power, about which taboo they might kind of want to cross, is really useful for getting inside their head. Also "what situation would make my character stupid horny enough to make a terrible mistake?" is a good plotting device. "It's a plot hole that they made that dumb decision" no they were just whistling like a lustful kettle and forgot to turn their brain on.

Lately, you haven’t been acting normal.  As observant as Frodo is, he noticed your symptoms from the start.  You’re moody, you’ve gained a sudden aversion to what was once your favorite foods, and you’ve felt more nauseous than usual.

He’s had suspicions from the beginning, so when the news finally breaks out, Frodo’s not surprised.  Despite the initial worry, Frodo always imagined a future with you, complete with a budding family living under the hill at Bag End.  The idea’s lingered in the back of his mind for who knows how long, and maybe it’s his inner hobbit speaking, but Frodo deeply longs for that domestic life with you.

He spends most of his time reading and researching parenting books lent by Sam.  As a result, books and notes that entirely engulf his workspace now clutter his office.  Although, no matter how many books he reads, it doesn’t detract from Frodo’s anxiety.

Furthermore, he keeps a note of potential names on his desk.  Suppose it’s a boy, then Frodo wants to honor Bilbo and Sam by naming him after one of them.  If it’s a girl, you and Frodo already decided on a flowery name like Petunia or Marigold.

When the effects on your body begin showing, he goes out of his way to prevent you from doing anything strenuous.  After bending over to clean a dusty corner of the upcoming nursery, Frodo insisted you refrain from overexerting yourself, and he then suggested you take a rest instead.  You’ll tell him countless times that you’ll be alright, but Frodo always responds skeptically.

Frodo does most of the chores to ensure you don’t exhaust yourself.  In the morning, he wakes you up with breakfast in bed, and in the evenings, he draws you a warm bath after dinner.  However, his overprotectiveness can be overbearing.  You aren’t as fragile as Frodo thinks, and though his actions are out of love, they can also be frustrating.

He tries not to panic, although his efforts are in vain.  Frodo’s looked to nearly everyone he knows for counsel– especially Sam and Rosie.  Although, they all give him the same advice, assuring him not to panic.  Human-hobbit relationships aren’t exactly common in the shire; after all, it’s not often that big folk come to visit their lands.  Though you don’t exactly ease his thoughts with your worrying either, Frodo constantly tries to reassure you (and himself) that everything will be alright.

Thanks for the tag! I made myself cry when I wrote this piece of my upcoming short story Rivendell. (I mean cry metaphorically; I don't actually cry easily at all).

“I am so sorry, Marigold,” he whispered again. “By the Valar, I’m sorry. I knew it – I have long known it, that long journeys lay before me, and that there was something mysterious and evil about Bilbo’s ring, and that it would all come to grief. I knew it full well – and I let myself love you and wed you anyway, and for that –”

He breathed a sigh, and his breath hitched in his throat as he fought not to look away – and in the end, he did not.

He only clasped her hand tighter as his voice carried on, rising in force and volume.

“And I know it now too, Marigold,” he continued, “I know it, and I know that you would have followed me anywhere, and I do not regret marrying you – no, not at all. No army, no Dark Lord, could ever make me regret you. But you must understand” – and here he paused, and quickly kissed her hand again, as if fearful that he might lose it – “You must understand, that now that I have married you, you are mine to protect, and I cannot do that, not if you come along on this quest, and not as long as the Ring and its Master are alive in Middle-earth.”

@starsuncounted you happened to tag me when I'm halfway through a fic inspired by one of your posts! And as usual what was meant to serve as context to the main part of the fic has metamorphised into OC backstory that I previously didn't know existed:

She turned to him and he saw that her posture was stiffer, something defensive in her stance. “Queen Arwen offered to have my duties … reduced. Shared with someone else.” Boromir considered, looking at her carefully. “Do you want that?” He knew that Eirlys was proud of her work, proud of the role she had fought so hard to gain, and, much as he might want her to step back and rest more, he knew it would be unfair to demand of her what she would not demand of him. Yet if she is only continuing out of guilt … “No.” There was no doubt in Eirlys’ eyes and the sight made Boromir smile. It was familiar, the resolve burning in tired eyes. “I have put too much of myself into this work to be relegated to the role of a pregnant lady of the house the moment the trumpets of victory sound.” Boromir frowned, his hand grasping hers. “You know that if you step back, it could be only for a time. You could have a few months to yourself, to get used to the child, before you went back. You have won your place; you need not continue to fight for it.” He could see the battle of will being waged in Eirlys’ face. The desire for rest and the comforts of her family home warring with pride, the devotion to something that had been part of her for so long. He knew that feeling, that exhaustion coupled with an inability to step back. She gripped his hand back, her face softening. “I know. And I thank you for saying it. But I think I shall continue as long as I am able. After all, I shall not be alone when the baby comes. I shall have Miryeman and Aya and your Aunt Caeveneth and my father and you, of course. And your Aunt Ivriniel will probably find some way to get involved.” “She always does,” said Boromir.

Bilbo Baggins x Wife! Reader

“My peonies!”

A/n: sorry for my small disappearance! Currently setting up to go to college so I’ve been working extra for tuition!

The dwarves had returned to the Shire after a long journey, eager to visit their old friend Bilbo Baggins. To their surprise, they found Bilbo happily married, his new wife named Y/n. She was a shy and reserved hobbit, not uncomfortable around dwarves per se, but she seemed anxious whenever she sat with them.

One sunny morning, the dwarves gathered at Bilbo's home when they heard a commotion outside. Y/n's voice rang out, filled with anger. "My peonies!" she yelled, catching everyone's attention. Bilbo tan outside while his friends rushed to the window to see what was happening. There, they spotted Lobelia Sackville-Baggins, a hobbit who had married into the Baggin family, standing in their front garden. More like on top of the garden.

As Lobelia walked away, she shouted, "They're marigolds!" Y/n's frustration grew, and she turned to Bilbo, her face flushed. "I think she's right," Bilbo admitted, inspecting the flowers. "I may not know my flowers, but I know a bitch when I see one." Bilbo's eyes widened at Y/n’s remark, but he quickly took her hand and led her back inside the house.

Y/n, feeling upset and overwhelmed, retreated to another room, seeking solace in her solitude as she often did when she was sad. Meanwhile, the dwarves gathered around Bilbo, curious about his wife's temperament. Bilbo simply shrugged and said, "She's shy but quick to anger, even quicker when it's Lobelia."

Later that day, Bilbo decided to comfort Y/n, knowing that she had missed three important hobbit meals - second breakfast, elevenses, and lunch. He found her hiding away, her sadness still evident in her eyes. With a gentle smile, he persuaded her to come out and eat with him and his friends.

Reluctantly she joined them at the table, her appetite diminished by her melancholy. However, as she sat among the dwarves and Bilbo, their warm company and jovial conversation began to ease her troubled heart. The dwarves shared stories of their adventures and made her laugh, lifting her spirits little by little.

Throughout the meal, Bilbo stayed close to Y/n, offering her comfort and understanding. He knew that her shyness made it difficult for her to open up, but in moments like these, he felt grateful for the deep bond they shared.

One evening, after a warm dinner, the group gathered by the fireplace in Bilbo's cozy hobbit-hole. Y/n was sitting next to Bilbo, feeling much more at ease in their presence. As they reminisced about their journey together and the battles they had fought, Y/n smiled warmly at the camaraderie between her husband and his dwarven friends.

Ooooooo just choosing is so hard! Well, since @nejires-hados is kinda slowly bringing my The Hobbit hyper fixation back into my head with her Hobbit posts and oc fanfic. I'm gonna use my Tolkien/The Hobbit girl Marigold Baggins and her lover Fili Oakenshield.

I haven't really have gushed about her or about them at all! So here it goes!

Gives nose/forehead kisses: I feel like Marigold would do the nose kisses while Fili would do the forehead kisses!

Gets jealous the most: I feel like 100% would be Fili! Those Oakenshield men would be very protective and jealous over their chosen lovers.😉 At least they would to me...

Picks the other up from the bar when they’re too drunk to drive: There are no cars in middle earth, but I would it would be Marigold in their modern au.

Takes care of on sick days: I feel like both of them would take care of one another on sick days, but Marigold would be the best one at it. Fili just tries his best lol.

Drags the other person out into the water on beach day: Fili, he knows that Marigold loves to explore and the water so he would take her to spots he found he think she would love.

Gives unprompted massages: Fili 😌

Drives/rides shotgun: Fili drives and Marigold rides shotgun in modern au, but if we are talking about ponies, Fili is in front while Marigold holds onto his waist in the back.

Brings the other lunch at work: Marigold would prepare all the food Fili wanted and needed. It would be the same way in modern au as well.

Has the better parental relationship: Marigold's parents are deceased when they met and Fili still has his mother Dis, so I guess based on having one alive parent, Fili does.

Tries to start role-playing in bed: Marigold would try, wanting to keep spicing up their bedroom romance. Though Fili would never get bored with Marigold and would do anything she wanted to do.

Embarrassingly drunk dancer

Still cries watching Titanic: They're in Middle Earth where Titanic doesn't exist or even any movies, but I would like to think in a modern au it would be Marigold while Fili comforts her as she clings onto him.

Firmly believes in couples costumes

Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas: Oh it would be Fili 100%, he would buy and make her so much fine jewelry and gifts.

Makes the other eat breakfast: Oh Marigold would make Fili eat second breakfast.

Remembers anniversaries: Both of them would but I feel like Fili would have always made it so special and go out of his way for her during them.

Brings up having kids: Well, in their canon, their daughter Dis was a surprise that Fili never got to experience. But in a more happier universe, after their surprise daughter Dis, Fili would be the one to bring up wanting more children.
