My april films list
The Scar/Blizna (1976): When I was in college my roommate was in a Polish class and she had access to a library of films and we watched a lot of Krzysztof Kieślowski and they are all good, I think. This one is about a mid level manager who inherits a white elephant of a project: clear a forest to build an industrial plant. The local people and the forest itself turn against him. It's magical realism with that Slavic touch of fatalism that always feels relevant.
Sweetie (1989): I saw this in the 90s at a film festival and so it was a bit of a shock when The Piano came out and it felt like you could not have two more different films at least on the surface, but both are directed by Jane Campion. Sweetie is a frank and often dark comedy about an ungovernable woman--a cautionary tale about the infantilisation of women, seen through the eyes of her long suffering sibling. Akira (1987): Iconic anime with a beautiful smooth style. Copied so frequently it can look a bit basic to those who've grown up with its imitators, but the heart of it is a great score and atmospheric noir setting that make the set pieces like the night motorcycle ride through Tokyo the perfect accompaniment to millennial angst. Near Dark (1987): Katherine Bigelow's shot at the sexy vampire genre features most of the cast of Aliens as a troop of vampires who follow around a Confederate soldier. Bill Paxton does an entertainingly nasty turn as one of the baddies. Feels like an Aliens/Lost Boys AU and that is a compliment, really.
Cleo from 5-7 (1962): Not to be like this already in what amounts to a two sentence blurb, but the summary for this film describes Cleo as a hypochondriac? Excuse me but she is waiting around to find out if she has cancer. It seems to me that this is a movie about the way women are dismissed and not seen, even when they are famous and actually the center of attention wherever they go. On the surface she looks like a spoiled diva, but behind the scenes we see she is frightened and lonely. Anyway fuck the patriarchy and Free Cleo! Twelve Angry Men (1957): We rewatched this because my son is on some weird reddit sub thread discord where everyone rpgs as jurors from this movie...I'm not joking. Imagining a super niche fandom for Jack Warner. It exists. THe internet is a wild place. Anyway, this holds up. Don't mix up Syndey Lumet and Sydney Pollack like I did, lol. Embarrassing!
Ashes and Diamonds (1958): Polish film master, Andrez Wadja's be bop riff on neo realism, is a chronicle of the final day of German occupation, and a Hail Mary attempt by a young resistance fighter to wrest the country back from the Soviet Army which is already there. It's a hopeless mission, born of drunken desperation in smokey back rooms, one that comes apart in daylight. It's feels like Rebel without a Cause, but like...he has a cause? There a sense of tragic waste that mirrors Nicholas Ray's vision of restless American youth. Scoop (2024): A rather weak entry in the behind the scenes journalism drama genre that I seem to be unable to resist in any form. This has Billy Piper as a booking agent who manages the coup of getting Prince Andrew to sit down for an interview with the press about the pedophilia allegations. Your average episode of The Thick of It, probably has more meat than this made for TV film.
The Two Popes (2019): For those playing along at home this was my fourth time watching this. What can I say, two of my fave old lovies flirting away in Pope costumes. It's a comfort film. You are not immune to propaganda. Bulworth (1998): Featuring just about every working black actor of the era, this movie was kind of ahead of its time. About a liberal politician who is so depressed about the state of his party being owned by powerful business interests that he decides to commit suicide by hiring a hitman to kill him so that his family will at least get the insurance. Warren Beatty at his most ridiculous, this is underrated gem.
Great Expectations (1974) After revisiting this version, I went back to David Lean, which is no surprise. This is a made for TV movie that has a lot of familiar faces from 50s British film including Robert Morley and my boi Anthony Quayle. Michael York is Pip. Heat (1995): I might become slightly obsessed with Michael Mann after watching all this moody atmosphere punctuated with bursts of violence, with long passages set to a synth score that made Chris Fleming want to crash his car. Some beautiful lighting and camera work in the final set piece which takes place on an airport runway. Iconic and yet, bloated and overlong and I just don't know why I like it so much? Maybe it's Al Pacino's reactions which are just so off the wall in some scenes, and the disconcerting normality of the other people in the same scenes, ya know? Like they are in two different movies. I shot Andy Warhol (1996): Watched this for Jared Harris (who is adorable as always and terrific as always and completely sinks into the role as always) and came away remembering why Lily Taylor was a 90s icon/IT girl and boy can she act. Like wow. Andy Warhol is the title character, but it's more about Valerie Solanas the radical feminist lesbian who shot him because she believed he stole her work. (The movie implies that he did, a little bit...). Her SCUM manifesto remains controversial to say the least, but her story is a utterly heartbreaking, told with humanity and nuance. Actually a great choice for Pride month because it talks about gay history and it's not pretty or comfortable but it's necessary to learn. Hopscotch (1980): Delightful comedy starring Walter Matthau and Judy Collins as a spy couple. Combines actually decent spy thriller with actually funny stuff and it's romantic and sweet as well.

what song do you associate with each muse?
{i am the caretaker of souls} This took me forever to put together, but I finally finished it, haha. These are all songs that I've come to associate with my muses, and in some cases, I've had that association for as long as 15-20 years.
Some are from the games or movies in which the characters appeared, so I associate them for that reason. Others were part of the media that inspired me to create/write them. Still others have lyrics that remind me of certain aspects of the characters' personality, specific scenes that were iconic to them, or they just have the right personality vibe for that muse. Some of the videos for these songs have the right visuals and aesthetics for the characters too.
If anyone want a more detailed explanation on why I associate a specific song with a particular muse, feel free to ask! Happy listening! =)

Rating: 4.5/5
Book Blurb:
Perfect for fans of Nicola Yoon and Ally Carter, the dazzling sequel to #1 New York Times bestselling author Marie Lu's Stars and Smoke, is “a brilliant, breathtaking ride" - Tahereh Mafi, #1 internationally bestselling author.
New sparks. Old flames. And a mission that's playing with fire.
A year has passed since superstar Winter Young last saw secret agent Sydney Cossette. After barely surviving their first assignment together in London -- and their intense chemistry – the two haven’t spoken at all. Though they’re never far from the other’s thoughts, or fantasies.
So when Syndey shows up at Winter’s studio one day with a new mission from Panacea, he has no choice but to accept. With the clock ticking, the duo prepares to head to Singapore to rescue an operative in danger -- only to learn he’s none other than Sydney's ex, a rogue agent known as the Arsonist.
Of course, nothing is ever simple when it comes to Winter and Sydney. Especially not with the glamorous Gavi Ginsburg, a globe-trotting socialite and Winter’s one-time girlfriend, in the mix. Is she back for Winter’s heart – or does she have her eye on another prize?
The smoldering sequel to New York Times bestselling Stars and Smoke follows Winter and Sydney on yet another treacherous mission that grows more sinister with each twist and turn. To make it out alive, they'll have to figure out how to be partners again -- and if they can resist the burn of something more.
Review:
After a year apart from their last mission, world famous pop star Winter Young is reunited with the one girl he can't get off his mind, secret agent Sydney Cossette for another mission... to rescue her spy ex. Not exactly the reunion he had in mind and can he and Sydney finally confront their feelings for each other or are their worlds too different? Winter Young is a famous pop star, he's just released his new album and but he has only one thing on his mind: Sydney Cosette. Winter can't stop thinking about the time he spent with his bodyguard/secret agent while working on a mission and the kiss they shared... and now it's been a year without her. He doesn't know if or when he'll ever see her again. With the news that someone close to him is writing a tell-all book about him without his permission and the fact that his own ex has showed up at his door asking to spend time... his life is messy.. and to add on top of that Sydney is back in his life and he has been called to do another mission with her.... to help her rescue her ex. When Sydney shows up at his door with a new mission from Panacea, he has no choice but to accept... and the mission requires that he have a date for the public event and with Sydney pushing that it cant be her and that he take his ex... he now has to bring her along too. Winter is not looking forward to bringing along his ex when he just wants to be with Sydney and he definitely is not looking forward to spending time with Sydney's own ex, Tems, a fellow spy. Yet the mission only gets more complicated when Tems shows up definitely not needing to be rescued but on a separate mission of his own... and now Sydney and Winter will have to find a way to stop a sinister group of traitors, save each other, and try and make it out alive and finally face the feelings they have for each other. Can a pop star and a spy really make it or are they too different from the beginning? When I had first read Stars and Smoke I loved it and definitely did not think it would be getting a sequel but oh boy did I have a blast with this sequel and I adored that ending for these two characters. I would love love LOVE a third book with Sydney and Winter and to get to see their relationship grow even more. I love that despite how different their lives are, they truly love and support one another no matter what. I had fun with all the twists and turns in this book and I just adored the relationship between the two main characters. This was such a fun series and I sincerely hope these characters get another book!

New Brunswick tops list of most U-Haul one-way traffic in 2022
According to a recent report by U-Haul, a truck rental company, New Brunswick saw the largest growth of one-way U-Haul traffic in 2022.
The company states this is an indication that moving out east was popular in 2022.
“There are many reasons people are packing up U-Haul trucks and coming to New Brunswick,” stated Devin Mitchell, U-Haul Company of Atlantic Canada president, in a news release. “In the last year, we’ve seen more movement into New Brunswick and the rest of the Maritimes because people are looking for affordable housing and a relaxed lifestyle. The lack of affordable real estate in other provinces is pushing people east.”
New Brunswick saw the greatest net-gain in one-way U-Haul traffic in 2022, announced the company in a news release on Jan. 9. That’s in stark contrast to the year prior, where New Brunswick saw the greatest net loss out of all the provinces.
In 2022, arriving traffic accounted for 51. 1 per cent of all one-way U-Haul trucks coming and going from New Brunswick.
In the company’s 2021 rankings, Alberta came in first. But for 2022, Alberta came in last, representing 49.5 per cent of arriving traffic coming and going from the province.
Here’s where the other provinces ranked:
These are the U-Haul’s 10 top Growth Provinces in Canada in 2022:
1. New Brunswick
2. Quebec
3. Ontario
4. Prince Edward Island
5. Nova Scotia
6. Saskatchewan
7. Manitoba
8. Newfoundland
9. British Columbia
10. Alberta
As well, U-Haul also ranked cities based on one-way U-Haul truck arrivals.
The city of Chatham, Ont., was ranked first, followed by Trois-Rivières in Quebec, and Sarnia, Ont, in terms of net-gains compared to the company’s 2021 list.
Mitchell said that remote work has allowed people to “find cheaper housing outside of the major metropolitan areas.”
“People are trying to find the most affordable places with the lowest cost of living while still being able to access the great outdoor amenities for which Canada is known,” he said in the press release.
Trois Rivieres city of Quebec came at No. 2 in the ranking followed by Sarnia in Ontario, Quebec City and Kelowna city in British Columbia as third, fourth and fifth top growth cities, respectively.
Here are U-Haul’s 25 top growth cities in Canada in 2022:
1. Chatham, ON
2. Trois-Rivières, QC
3. Sarnia, ON
4. Quebec City, QC
5. Kelowna, BC
6. Syndey, NS
7. Greater Sudbury, ON
8. Brantford, ON
9. Montreal, QC
10. Chilliwack, BC
11. North Bay, ON
12. St. Thomas, ON
13. Belleville, ON
14. Saint John, NB
15. Strathroy-Caradoc, ON
16. Camrose, AB
17. Nepean, ON
18. Sherbrooke, QC
19. Salmon Arm, BC
20. Saint-Hubert, QC
21. Penticton, BC
22. Sault Ste. Marie, ON
23. North Vancouver, BC
24. Peterborough, ON
25. Fredericton, NB
METHODOLOGY:
According to U-Haul, the company states their growth index report “is compiled according to the net gain (or loss) of one-way U-Haul trucks arriving in a province or city, versus departing from that province or city, in a calendar year. Migration trends data is compiled from well over two million one-way U-Haul truck transactions that occur annually across Canada and the U.S.”
Reporting for this story was paid for through The Afghan Journalists in Residence Project funded by Meta.

Wanted to draw my Gen 1 protagonists! At least that's what I'm calling them, this trio doesn't really have any other name (maybe Lucky Bastards would work)
Had a lot of fun with these! Except now I have about 1 hour until some work is due and I haven't even looked at the assignment. If it's a bit late I'm just gonna hope my teacher doesn't care
Anyway! Evanna's pic is by far my favorite of these! Idk why, but oh my stars shading some parts took a lot longer than intended

I agree wit a lot of yr points on Sam n i jus think until more info comes in about him (or after Euphoria ends) we wont really know the whole story.
Its clear the Bts crew r nt fond of the hours n i think he def exploits Syndeys body as well. I dnt know wtf to think about the Barbie issue bt they may jus nt hav liked each other (or fought over her storyline) n he was being petty so he gave her low screen time. She may hav jus been polite wit praising him or scared of being back balled. Maude is a nepo baby too (n sam knows her dad), n i doubt he wuld try to put her in an uncomfortable situation (she seems to have the same no nudit cause as Z).
At the same time all the cast has praised him, seems to work well wit Z (even the questionabe Malcolm n Marie), n has contributed sonewhat to Zs transition from disney star to A lsvel actress
Yeah I think it’s undeniable that he’s been a boon for Zendaya’s career (although he gave her the opportunity and she earned the accolades). I always found Zendaya’s choice to sit out the (admittedly little) controversies around Feb really interesting and probably smart. She didn’t defend Barbie/Sydney/the crew’s allegations, etc, and she didn’t defend Sam. She remained neutral.

I'm Not Okay With This: The Three Of Many
"CHAPTER FOUR"
As he watched his two little girls and little boy play in the sun, he smiled brightly. His children were playing ball, nothing more made him happy as of raising his children on his own.
"Daddy come play with us!" His daughters call out motioning him over.
As a father, he knew he'd always make time to play with his children. "Kick me the ball sweetie." He calls out.
One of the girls kicks him the ball, as the children race towards their dad and tackle him to the ground trying to wrestle the ball from him.
"We got you." They laughed.
~present day~
It was day 4380.
Those people had zero right to take them from me. I was a perfect parent. I did everything to protect them. I gave them a home, a puppy that they got to name together.
My world became shattered, never was the same. I let my daughters down. I let myself down.
Once I find my other daughter, I will make those cruel people pay. My secret is kept hidden from the world, my daughters however haven't been so diligent on keeping it hidden from the world.
"Why did you bring me back here? I left to see my family." Sydney cried on the black cushioned couch.
"You know why. I told you never to leave, and you did." I slam my fist on the glass table.
"Please stop doing that." Sydney shakes nervously.
I approach Sydney took a seat next to her, I calmed myself before speaking to her again. "Sydney listen. I will tell you everything soon, just, please help me find my daughter and I will have no more secrets from you."
"What do I have to do?" Sydney asks.
I give her a crook smile.
---------------------------------------------------
Dina's POV
"What the hell do you mean, we did it?" Stanley shouted at the principal.
"The football players said you pushed them down the steps which is why they are bruised up badly. Do either of you want to explain why you harmed other students?" The principal spoke.
"We never did that." Stanley and I argued.
"That video says otherwise." Stanley parents spoke.
"Dina Marie... you should be shamed of yourself and apologize to those boys." My mom yelled.
"Mom we didn't do it. An adult man did sort of." I cried.
As the principal continued to talk to the parents Stanley and I stood outside of the office waiting to hear our punishment. "You and I both know we didn't do this." I say to Stanley.
"I just can't figure out how what we know what happened, and explain why on the video footage it was different." Stanley spoke.
"What about that man we saw?" I look at him. "Why wasn't he in the video along with Syndey?"
Before I could get another word in, both my and Stanley's parents exited the office and separated us apart. "Let's go home." My mother muttered forcing me towards the entrance doors of the school out into the school parking lot.
"Are they letting me stay in school?" I ask my parents as we got to the red Buick car.
"They suspend you for a month." My father growled lowly.
"What about Stanley?"
"Why does it matter how much he got?" My father argued.
"Let's just say he has a lesser punishment than you." My father finally said.
I wanted to say more, but my parents forced me into the car ending the conversation about my school suspension.
---------------------------------------------------
Ashley's POV
"Hey new girl, wanna come to watch us at practice on the field?" A football player called out to me, as I placed my school books in my locker.
"How about no." I say to one of them.
"Your a feisty one." The head football player smirked.
"She said no." A boy my age appears out of nowhere then somehow blew air powerful enough to swift the football players away.
"Come with me." The boy says to me reaching his hand out to me. "Your not alone Ashley."

Would Lila still try to make Mari look bad or would Syndey's anti-bully patrol keep her behaved?
Lila would just have to be sneakier. Double checking for not just people but also Ghosts before she confronts Mari or sets something up.
If she goes get caught, she's likely to try and manipulate him into thinking it was a misunderstanding.
Or worse, try to convinve him that Marinette is the bully so he goes after her.
But Sydney knows better. He learned after he found out about the mistake he made with Danny and Dash. Just because there's an incident he sees, doesn't mean there's all there is. Maybe this is the one time the victim is fighting back. Maybe this is just a fight between friends and not a case of bullying. Or just a one off thing.
Unless it's someone he already knows is a bully and has dealt with before, he watches and waits.
After one incident, Lila and Marinette would be on his radar. But he'd wait to see who does what before acting.

So You Think You Can Dance Season 14 Ep 8
First off, the set up this year was very interesting. I don't mind it at all. However I'm wondering if many great dancers got lost because of it. Now on to the top 10! Fik-shun and Dassy; I was hoping that Fik-shun would choose Dassy as his partner! She is such a cutie and clearly a hard worker who pushes for what she wants seeing as she moved from South Korea for this. Their dance was super groovy and a nice way to start off the show Allison and Logan; I liked Logan since his audition. He was one of the ones that caught my eyes and kept it through out academy week. It was Unfortunate that he couldn't dance with Allison this week but all things considered it wasn't a bad dance Jenna and Kiki; I had a feeling that Jenna would choose Kiki. They really seem to make a great partnership however after seeing everyone else I'm actually a little underwelmed with these two! Jenna is of course a bombshell and a firecracker of a dancer and Kiki (let's be honest here) is a hottie but they didn't bring it for me this week Also wasn't feeling Jenna's costume Cyrus and Kaylee; Listen. Kaylee has been a fav of mine since her audition. There is just something about her! However like Vanessa said with this dance she needed more air and lightness to her movement. BUT her emotion and passion behind her movement is unbelievable so I can't wait to see more from her Gaby and Lex; everyone needs to stop hating on Lex about his personality! Like dammn I love Lex. And if he is introverted or whatever I believe that you can be an incredible dancer without being over the top in personality. Like Mary said we've had winners who didn't have the biggest personality so go on with your bad self Lex. Keep slaying. Comfort and Mark; I don't have much to say about this couple. But I really do think they are right up there for making it far in the competition. Mark is crazy haha but I think it's fitting with Comfort. Together they are kind of a power couple Marko and Koine; omg these two!! I'm glad Marko chose her as his partner but I must admit out of everyone this was a really REALLY hard decision! Anyway it killed me that Nigel was saying Marko should marry her haha! But low-key i ship it haha. I hope these two go far, it'll be interesting to see what they do next Paul and Sydney; Woahhh now here is a couple I wasn't expecting that kind of just knocked me in the head. Like Nigel was saying Sydney really flew under the radar! But I am completely blown away by her. I don't know who said this but yes her legs are long as hell and she looked fabulous this week! On top of all this great dancing and people coming out from under the radar, Val (I can't spell his last name) choreographed this routine! This is soooo ironic guys cause literally while they were dancing I was like Normani should be on SYTYCD and I legit think it's because I saw Sydney do a kick that reminded me of Normani which makes sense cause Val choreographed their routines on dancing with the Stars! Anyway welcome Val! And great job to this couple ! Robert and Taylor; freaking Travis wall. Like!?.. woah Taylor and Robert danced amazingly! Honestly so so good I just.. wow. While watching part of me was like "well they got a Travis wall routine so they were set for this week" but then I remembered- the dancers have to bring the choreo to life and omg did the ever! These two have great chemistry together and if there's one thing this dance let us know is that they have an incredible partnership. I mean some of the things they did in that dance..! They needed so much trust. So yeah these two are awesome Jasmine and Robert; I almost didn't think Jasmine would take Robert with her! I'm happy she did he is such a unique dancer! I was worried that what everyone liked about him, his uniqueness and almost weird way of doing his movements and his almost feminine dancing would now start to work against him but thankfully the judges loved him and actually said they like the way he moves so yaay! On the other hand I do worry that when it comes to true partnering where Robert will have to lift Jasmine and so on that he will fall short. Because Jasmine is a tall strong woman and Robert isn't the biggest or strongest man ya know? Or I'm I being crazy? Overall I think Robert and Taylor and Paul and Sydney had the best dances of the night. And finally can we talk about Vanessa Hudgens as a judge? Y'all I was so underwelmed when I found out she was judging. Even through the auditions I wasn't sold on her but after this week I know there's nothing to worry about. She's actually really good! Anyhooo until next week friends!

I saw sandition cause it was all over my dash and never let it be said i haven't seen each and every one of he adaptations of j.a.'s work. I liked Charlotte - i thought the actress was believable in her character, as her character. Which was what i thought the guy playing Sydney could not do. He just seemed to have a limited number of facial expressions and never managed to get actual emotion thru to me. Idk. Even what were supposed to be emotional outbursts from him felt somehow forced.
There was a lot of "telling" in the show vs "showing". A lot of... idk what to call it? Blunt dialogue?
I liked mrs. Lamb - she was cool and one of the characters i am genuinely interested in seeing again. I ship her and Arthur, i think his name was. Sydneys brother. I ship them. Theyre cute and seem to genuinely enjoy each others company. Tho on the other hand, im still holding out hope for redemption for her first love, the guy with the french sounding name.
Fun fact - for like 3 episodes i thought arthur and his sister were actually married lol.
The lord who fell in love with that great lady's redheaded niece - their arc was precious. Her story - the abuse undertones, or maybe codependency ones - that it had with her step brother, the little useless weasel, was very sad and im glad she's happy now.
I didnt like the sad ending but that just makes me feel even more as if the story isn't done, in a strange upside-down logic, like: if its true that in the real world, happy endings are for stories that aren't finished yet; in jane Austen's world, sad endings are just a sign that things will get better from there, because we know from precedent that the end holds happiness.
I can imagine an ending where the prince regent comes into sandition and its a hit and they can pay elisa back for the investment and syndey doesn't have to marry
(the sweet sweet angst of it all tho:
that Sydney has to live for a while knowing not only that he missed a second chance at love when im sure he thought he would never get one. Like - looking at a miracle in the eye and having to say no. Just... the excruciating pain of it. Ugh.
And on top of that, that he also has to stand the thought of having done to charlote what was done to him.
The layers of self-hatred are gonna settle down thick on that boi.
And Charlote - who probably even understands.
Who can see the honor in it even... (so long as, uknow, elisa isnt like, outright being decieved and used for her money that is. Cause o dont care how callois she was, thats vile).
who might admire his sacrifice while also asking herself if maybe he didn't love her as much as she thought, if she was so easy to set aside.
And having that doubt and keeping it while knowing that its a selfish thing to think, when she loves tom and marys family, their kids, as sincerely as she does and knowing she might perhaps do the same if her own family's fate were in the line like that.
And still... still, misery persists.)
So yeah. Sanditon.

Monday Review of Fancy Pants
Monday Review of Fancy Pants by Cathy Marie Hake New Blog Post
This is an old book but oh so much fun to read. Fancy Pants by Cathy Marie Hake is a delightful and funny read about a woman who refuses to marry a man who can’t remember her first name! It’s Lady Syndey Hathwell by the way. So how does she escape this problem? Let’s just say there are scissors and pants involved. This is one of those can’t put down books. What I didn’t realize is there are more…
