A Confessional: Fandom Awareness

It is currently 6:00pm EST, November 29th, 2024, as I am writing this. (7:15pm, December 5th, 2024, for post) This is something I have needed to write for a while, and I finally found the strength to do so. 

What I would like to discuss is the Maribat Tumblr scene and events of earlier this year.

~ As a disclaimer, this is not being made to send harassment or hate. Its purpose is to enlighten the fandom of my personal experiences, including what I have witnessed myself. None of the following will be anything but my own testimony and pieces accessible by members of the fandom. ~

I, the one writing this as well as runner of this account, am Stilly. Otherwise known as ScarletImpulse on Ao3 and Discord and VelveteenShadow on Tumblr. 

Why am I putting this out there with a new account versus using my own tumblr? It, my personal tumblr, was blocked by the blog that is arguably seen the most on this platform. The blocking was due to the following.

Back in February, the 2023 Maribat Awards’ Nominations List was released. One of my pieces was nominated but not accepted due to a relationship being tagged in the piece. A lot unfolded from there and I would like to own up to my side of it.

In the moment, I was saying things with no weight behind them when it came to any words I used. I had said that the event was biased, had favoritism, should have different mods, and was unfair due to the reasoning given for my piece not making it into the category whilst another fic was accepted. 

Someone left a reply to the post right off to get clarification. The reason I did not speak up myself is I was afraid that the reason for my piece not making it into the one category (Rare Pairs) would then disqualify it, thus removing it, from another category (Favorite Fic). 

The clarification given to the person was rather vague. After that, it spiraled into another person asking with rather inappropriate, strong language and the OG blog giving nearly the same energy back. A couple key things were said that were extra that read as rude, there is the use of “favoritism” which most likely was used in reference to my reactionary words, and a specific thing that I would like to specify on.

~ “...I had said that if they changed the tags we would be willing to add them back in.” (Another Mod, February 3rd, 10:01 am)

This part was never said directly before. I, nor anyone, was told that if I changed my fic tags that it could be accepted. The only mention of tags by the blog were these two following ones in separate reblogs.

~ “I do not read all of the fics submitted, and rely on authors tagging their works appropriately.

As a reminder, tagging works appropriately is important for readers so they are not misled.” (Main Mod, February 2nd, 6:45pm)

~ “Instead, I would suggest tagging the Timari in the Additional Tags part of AO3, or even as ‘Minor Tim/Marinette Dupain-Cheng’, that way fic readers and mods alike will not mistake it for something it is not next time.” (Another Mod, February 2nd, 8:44pm)

I was also not reached out to about this problem. A lot of what went down could have been solved by being clear about the tag changing and/or reaching out to me to resolve the issue. Instead, they reference information that could only be known by being in the server I said all of my frustrations through. 

There is no way they should have had access to what I said because none of the individuals associated with the blog at the time were within that server when it went down. (Even so, I should not have said the things I did and I own up to that.) It also shows they were aware of my discord account so I could be reasonably reached.

The blocking itself? That came from them seeing someone share out my Tumblr username through a different discord entirely. At least in that case, the individuals were also in there. 

I was not the only one who got blocked during that stretch. I cannot speak for them, nor will I. However, I can say that the public was blocked in a sense from the situation because reblogs (where the conversation went down) were hidden. They can now only be found through the reblogs of others.

I am accepting and confirming all of that further in this google doc to show versus purely tell and prove I am not free of innocence for my actions during that. It is so important for people in the fandom to be aware that it happened. Both sides of that made mistakes. They need to be held accountable for it. 

There are a couple more interesting things that sprouted that I will mention briefly here but will be expanded upon in the doc. Once again, this is for fandom awareness.

The access to a discord they were not a part of was used to send screenshots of what I said during the heat of the situation to yet another discord which got me banned from it. I was not allowed to even ask for further information or clarification because I was told through a bot message and the one mod I knew had their dms set to friends only. 

“A concerned member sent the [server name] staff several screenshots of you publicly threating physical harm against other members of our server. This is not acceptable behavior in what should be a fun, safe space to enjoy fandom.

This directly violates the rules of our server & is egregious enough to bypass prior warnings. Our mod team has made the decision that it is in the best interests of protecting our server members to remove you. Thank you. This decision cannot be appealed.” (Dyno Bot, February 8th, 8:13 pm)

There’s nothing else for me to speak upon for that. The message is between the bot and I so if the server wished for me to not share that out, perhaps banning without a prior warning would prevent that. 

Another thing that came from the situation was an account named “Dike” on Tumblr. It put out a nicely written transcript essentially of what happened and the sides of things. 

This has since been deleted. 

This is another example of something that was said in the fandom’s tumblr space that has been forced to live in reblogs of others. However, the person, Dike (who I will not disclose without permission), had asked me as well as one of the individuals associated with the situation to read over the google doc of the mock trial. I saw things from Dike being deleted and took action to make a copy.

This is the copy of the original google doc posted by Dike with all the information perfectly intact from when it was first written. It was given by him to the public once so regaining your access to it should not cause a problem. However, it does make it easy to identify who Dike is, so I am going to link you to a reblog that saved it from fully disappearing instead.

All of this I wanted to bring up because it is imperative for the fandom to know what a certain blog on Maribat Tumblr with influence has done. This is not to go throw hate on them. It is to give awareness.

The original purpose of the blog (as far as I am aware) was to make calendars for the fandom. Since then, it has evolved to do awards and other events. That’s amazing.

A problem, however, is the sharing of events that can come across as selective. They do their own events then only one other Maribat tumblr’s has been shared by the blog. That would not be inherently bad if they did not make such an effort to get the attention of the fandom.

Finding events run for Maribat as a fandom can be done relatively easily with the tagging feature in tumblr. Only sharing out the two places makes it an even harder time for events run by other fandom tumblrs to get traction though.

It also does not help that the blog blocked one of those other fandom tumblrs. To remind, I am speaking only for myself, so I purely know this because I am the owner of the Maribat Menagerie tumblr and I was searching to see if 2024 awards were posted yet, just to be met with a “ghost blog” message. If there are any others who have experienced the same, it is on them to speak on it.

Once again, this is boiling down to making it harder on others in the fandom getting that traction to more of the fandom. Without a typically checked Tumblr of the fandom sharing things, it gets left to the algorithm which only tends to favor polls.

One last related piece to the topic is a discord server list that was made by the blog. It is yet another case of not being inherently bad in its target purpose but has been used rather strangely.

The fandom may not be aware that the list has been edited throughout the months since its release. There is a note that states “All links posted with server permission prior to adding” which is important to know as I talk on this.

This list is made to help the fandom find discords because minus those with a Tumblr related to their discord, fic links are the only real go to place to find them, which can be a game. 

The problem I have, which may not be one to others, is how the list has changed while still not including more less member-heavy servers beyond their own. I understand and respect the decision to only include those who have given permission. It is just weird that at least one that was originally on the list has been removed then replaced.

In fact, this occurred just days ago as far as I am aware. Originally, the “Daminette” server, that was featured since the list was made, was changed out with “League of Daminette” which you can find out through checking any reblog under the original post with a date before November 24th, 2024. 

Mentioning the servers is relevant because I found that out after making this tumblr and checking the 2024 Maribat Awards. That announcement post was also changed after originally being posted with the only difference being a server link.

Let me preface, having a server link in a post is totally fine. It is how it is in the post that seems a bit unnecessary for an announcement of a nomination form, not a server. Having “Come join us on discord” the same color and font size as the nomination form link is a choice. That is going to catch people’s eyes and they will most likely miss the “Nominations open until January 15th” in small text in between them.

It is also when that is important to mention for that part above. The addition of the link happened after the nomination form was shared around to multiple places. I found out due to it being shared within the Menagerie. Whether or not that was on purpose or just a case of them forgetting, I cannot speak on. However, it is worth mentioning that if it was not, then that is quite the timing and coincidence.

Ultimately, everything I have written out for you here is for your benefit. The Maribatter who decided to read this. Take all of this information as you want. I am not in charge of who, how, why you interact with the fandom. I want this fandom space to allow people to make their own choices.

As a last word, I hope that if any of the persons who may have a problem with what I have brought up publicly consider saying this should have been handled privately, they take a moment to realize that their chance was lost when they put their side out publicly then tried to hide it (whether intentionally or not, I will not assume).

“Marinette Dupain-Cheng, if you don't get your ass in gear and go ask Tim out I'm going to get Césaire to come beat you up,” Chloé declared, glaring down at the shorter woman.

“Why is that the threat you're going with?” Marinette asked, frowning up at Chloé from where she lay on the sofa. They were relaxing in New York for the day, Chloé having demanded her presence. It had been a pretty good day so far, watching cheesy movies and critiquing different fashion magazines.

“Because you'll listen to her,” Chloé said with a shrug. And Marinette couldn't argue the fact, so she nodded and pulled a notebook out to start plotting.

Dick was still telling Tim to hold off on talking to Marinette about anything serious but it was beginning to wear on him. So when she sent a message asking if he wanted to get coffee, he didn't hesitate.

When he spotted her outside the coffee shop, his heart jumped in his chest. She was wearing a hoodie that looked suspiciously like the one she had made for him, though smaller and with a subtle polka dot pattern across the pockets and hem.

“Tim! Gosh, it feels like I haven't seen you in forever,” she said, a light blush dusting her freckles. “Not been working too hard, I hope.”

“Twenty hours a day is healthy, right?” He joked, holding open the café door for her. She gave a tinkling laugh and he grinned at her as they joined the queue. She seemed slightly on edge and he wondered if she was thinking about all the times they had been interrupted by his family, like he was. “I'm sorry it's been so long.”

“Don't be, I understand needing to put other things first,” she said. “But that reminds me, I should sit down and have an actual conversation with Dick and Bruce soon. I'm sure they have questions for me.”

“Not that they're entitled to them,” he muttered darkly which made her laugh. They stopped talking to order their coffee and the silence stayed while they waited. They got their order to go and started walking through the streets of Gotham.

“Do you mind if we take the coffee back to my place? There's something I wanted to talk to you about.”

He agreed, ignoring the voice of Dick reminding him he was supposed to be giving them space to investigate. Marinette was right, he'd given them plenty of time to find anything incriminating so he had no reason not to spend time with her.

She invited him in and his eyes flashed to the window that he had entered through last time. He winced and turned away from it, not wanting to think about that evening. Marinette clearly thought otherwise because she laughed as she sat down at the kitchen table, pushing some macarons towards him.

“I'm glad we aren't fighting against a zombie this time. Getting strapped to a chair with zip ties is not my idea of a good time.”

“Noted,” he said solemnly. Then he blushed because that didn't sound as light and teasing as he'd meant it to. They were sitting closely enough that she could probably feel the heat of his cheeks. “I just- I mean- it was meant to be a joke.”

Marinette watched him get flustered and tried not to giggle too much. She had far too much caffeine and anxiety in her system, a lack of sleep from plotting and baking the night before making her more high strung than usual. So, of course, her plans went to hell as she opened her mouth again

“I like you.”

Tim's eyes were wide when he looked at her, and she steamrolled straight through. In for a penny, she thought grimly.

“I know you probably don't feel the same - god, I'm always the one that falls hard for people that don't want me - but if I didn't tell you it was going to kill me,” she said, starting to blush to her roots. 

“Marinette, wait, I-”

“And you don't have to worry about letting me down easy, it's not going to change how we work together! It's not like I haven't had time to get used to how I feel, but I thought before that, maybe, you might have felt the same. But then things haven't really-”

“Marinette, can you stop for a second?” Tim half shouted, grabbing her shoulders. Her mouth snapped closed and he let his hands slide down to capture her hands. “Thanks. I wasn't planning on letting you down easily.”

“Oh. I mean, of course, this was hugely inappropriate considering you're technically my boss,” she said, mortification creeping in. “Um, if- if you're going to fire me, I understand-”

“What? No, no, I mean I don't want to let you down at all!” He half shouted, hands tightening around hers. She blinked at him, surprised, mouth dropping open slightly. Her cheeks coloured again and he ran a hand through his hair. “God, I'm so bad at this. I like you too, and I would love to go on a date with you.”

“Oh. Huh,” Marinette said, mind going blank. She hadn't really expected him to accept. She'd really only agreed to ask him because she figured it was best to get it out there before she revealed that she was Ladybug to the Bats. “I was not expecting that.”

“Yeah, I gathered,” Tim said, brushing her bangs out of her eyes. “And we should probably work out some things, like how we're going to tell B and Dick, but…I'm happy that you feel the same. I've been driving myself crazy trying to come up with a way to ask you out without it feeling like pressure. You know, because of the whole…bird thing.”

“Oh, yeah, that doesn't bother me,” she said distractedly, waving her now free hand. “I mean, it would be hypocritical, considering my own work as a hero.”

“I think using a magical artifact once to help a team out is a little different to-”

“Oh, no, I meant because I'm Ladybug,” Marinette said with a smile. Tim blinked at her, probably having his own moment of confusion.

“Wait, you're what?!”

When Tim left that evening, they had a game plan and he was determined to start it as soon as possible. Marinette had apparently already put a lot of thought into it so planning had been fairly stress free for him.

Which was good, because his brain was still trying to combine the two people in his head. Marinette, the cute, passionate designer, was Ladybug, the driven, strong leader? It seemed almost painfully obvious when he thought back to the way he'd met them both but it was like his brain didn't want them to be the same person.

He grinned at his phone when she messaged to say goodnight before turning to plan out a message for Dick and Bruce.

Daminette December 2023: 12-Betrayal (SUB)

CONTINUATION OF 10-DEFEATED...

The fashion department of Wayne Enterprise found the whole situation between Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Damian Wayne funny. Damian avoided their area, as demanded by the other Waynes and Marinette. They took to calling them Wayne Enterprise's own Romeo and Juliet, seperated by his family. Everyone knew they were dating.

Marinette had agreed to date him and Damian had been happy to try to work out his emotions. She had asked to keep their dates casual for a bit: coffee, movies, cafés. She didn't want anything big for at least six months, if they made it that far.

Damian refused to admit it, but he was excited. It had now been a year since he met her. She had changed his view of thinking and challenged him.

"Marinette, will you have dinner with me?" Damian questioned, as he handed her a coffee.

"Yeah." Marinette answered, "When?"

"I do not mean our usual dinner." he replied with a smirk, "It has been six months, as you requested. I would like to invite you out and make a reservation."

Mari looked at him, surprised.

'Has it actually been that long already? He has been nice and he hasn't gone back to how he was when we first met.'

"Yes." she smiled, "I'd love to."

Damian felt his lungs betray him, as he stood in Marinette's place. He hadn't expected Marinette to come out in a cocktail dress, her hair down in waves, or in heels. Damian thought back to those months long ago, when he confessed.

Damian felt his family walk away from them and give them privacy. Marinette had leaned close to him when they had left.

"If you think my business suits are innapropriate, Mr. Wayne, then we're gonna have a problem when we go out on an actual date." Marinette declared.

Damian had felt his ears warm up.

He didn't think she had been telling the truth. Her cocktail dress was above her knees and the dress was off the shoulder, revealing her collarbones.

"Ready to go, Damian?" Marinette asked.

"Yes." He answered, his heart betraying him further.

He had made sure to make a reservation ahead of asking her, just in case.

"I enjoyed our time at the resturant." Damian spoke, walking Marinette back to the door of her apartment.

Mari smiled, "It wasn't bad and the food wasn't horrible. It was nice to have French cuisine again. Maybe it's something we could do every other month?"

"I would find that enjoyable." the Wayne heir answered, "You were also correct. You surprised me with your apparel, yet again."

"Oh?" Marinette inquired, leaning in.

Marinette bent her knee backwards and lifted her leg, gaining his attention. Mari reached down and pulled wha appeared to be her skin. She could tell Damian was confused as to why her skin was elastic.

"Skin tone leg warmers." Marinette smiled, "Insulated, too."

Damian turned to her, about to ask a question, when she kissed him.

"Good night, Damian." Mari spoke before going inside and closing the door.

Damian stood outside the closed door. It took him a moment to realize she had really gone inside. He chuckled to himself.

'She still continues to surprise me. Mother would definitely like her.'

So I just had a thought. Canonically, Marinette knows Adrien's schedule for the next 3 years. But. I have a but! His schedule isn't planned for 3 years in advance. It's most likely created a week to a month in advance since he is 15 and not nearly as "busy" as Gabriel is. So, how does Marinette know three years in advance? And where did she get the time to stalk him for it?

I have a theory that works with maribat, specifically because of the existence of meta people.

She doesn't stalk him, she also doesn't advertise her meta ability. Her ability? Foresight. It's not super strong. Nor does it work for Hawk-moth because of Miraculous Magic protecting the miraculous holders identities. But for something as mundane as a crush and knowing exactly where she can find him to hang out once she's able to talk or confess? Sure. Why not. She doesn't advertise it. To a stranger, if someone you know but aren't close with knows your or someone you know schedule 3 years in advance? The most logical conclusion is stalking.

The foresight helps her with her Ladybug plans mid-fight, the only thing the miraculous magic allows it to do, hence the grey-with-red ladybug sight that occurs when she thinks of a plan. It's the same out of the mask, she just doesn't need it for normal things (though it is a lifesaver for exams she's too tired and busy to study for; she discovers all the questions months in advance, and then just revises that until she has memorised the answer).

Swapping diamonds for pearls

Maribat, Merfolk AU, Felinette, Fantasy AU, Marinette gets adopted by the Batfam, No Miraculous AU:

The setting is a town on the coast. To ensure the goodwill of the sea gods, the town sacrifices one of their young people to the sea, when the signs show it's time for a sacrifice. It's been a few decades since the last sacrifice when Marinette suddenly feels inexplicably drawn to the ocean. She wakes up at night hearing songs and finds herself at the shore without memory how she got there several times.

One of the things she can't remember, because humans forget their encounters with merfolk, is how she helped a young mer protect a baby seal.

That young mer is Damian, who took a liking to the girl who protected the pup of his favourite seal. So he decided to claim her as part of his pod, not knowing that it starts a transformation process.

Marinette was engaged to Adrien, but she more and more feels that this is wrong and when her behaviour is noticed, the priestess declares it's a sign that it's time for a sacrifice and Marinette has been chosen as the sacrifice. At that point she breaks off the engagement. She gives Adrien the diamond ring back and wears jewellery with pearls which declares her as the sacrifice.

Felix, Adrien's cousin and the young lord of the town starts researching in his library. Secretly he's in love with Marinette, but he also loves his cousin and since Marinette is one of the few people Adrien could be himself around, he didn't interfere, but encouraged Adrien to propose. He tries to find anything to reverse the signs, but he also doesn't wish to evoke the sea gods' wrath. He has to think about his subjects. If they can't fish as much anymore, it would be devastating for the town.

He finds out, that the sacrifices turn into merfolk and the only way to stop this is, to convince the mer who claimed a human to give up their claim. But Felix is too late and Marinette has already been sacrificed.

At sea she is soon found by Tim, who claimed the last sacrifice, Cass. He was once a sacrifice himself and figures out what happened (mainly) and brings her to the pod. Damian confesses he claimed her, not knowing it would transform her. He did it, because he thought it would protect her. Bruce explains, that they usually claim humans who don't have anything keeping them on land. Often orphans or, like in Tim's case, children who are neglected or abused by their parents. But a pod can only claim a human every 15 to 25 years, because the successful transformation takes energy from the whole pod.

Marinette had connections on land and she has a hard time giving up on them. But it's not reversible and she likes her pod and befriends mers from other pods.

One day she finds Felix in a boat suspiciously close to the small island the pod lives around and hears him yelling for her. The pod is a bit annoyed, because although they keep sharks away and help with fishing, sink pirate ships and bring survivors of sinking ships to the shore, invading their home is something they really don't like.

Marinette shows herself, to convince him to leave, but because he forgets the encounter, he's back the next day. This time Marinette drags his boat to a hidden beach and writes in the sand to only meet her here, so even if he would forget their encounters, he could still read the message. They figure out a system. He takes something to write with him, so he can write down, what happend and he can read it again after he forgets what they talked about.

During these meetings they get closer and finally Marinette falls in love with Felix. At first Felix felt conflicted and wanted to tell Adrien, but Adrien didn't want to hear anything about Marinette and after Felix found Adrien and one of his warriors, Kagami, at a tryst, he decided, that it would be better this way.

After they kiss, they find out that now Felix can remember their talks.

Felix starts to wonder if they can have a future when his mother urges him to find a bride, someone to share the burden of reigning over the town with. But either he has to cheat on the woman he loves and his wife or he has to end things with Marinette or he has to defy his mother and sooner or later the court or even his king for the rest of his life. So, he starts to research again, but he only finds out, that the transformation can only be stopped and reversed as long as the person isn't really part of a pod.

Marinette knows it's irreversible. The only option she can see is, if he wasn't lord anymore, but she thinks she can't ask that of him, so she looks into potions to make him forget her entirely.

This is what she's busy with, while her friends band together and find Felix waiting for Marinette at the beach. Felix decided on his own to give the title to Adrien and step down, so he wouldn't have to leave Marinette. He wanted to tell her but only finds mers he only knows of from Marinette's stories. They offer him that one of them could claim him, since Marinette's pod can't do so, but it's not the only pod out there. True, the other pods have their own territories, but they are close enough to befriend each other. They only ask him to be sure this is what he wants. It is.

So, in the end they can still have a happy ever after 😊

Yesterday I RBd a thing where you list your WIPs, then people send you asks about specific ones, and you share a little. @bohemianrhapsody711 asked about these:

Into the Bugverse

I am SUPER excited about this idea, but it's in very early stages (no actual snippets to share, just some disjointed points I'll fill in right now). It is, as you might guess, a riff on Into the Spiderverse. A bit of crack taken seriously where the multiverse is all the fics on Ao3.

We begin with a universe in which Marinette is navigating not to disappointing her parents, who want her to learn the family trade.

Chat Noir, who fought alone most of his life before Marinette was recruited (think of this as kind of a plot divergent Hey, Ribbons by childoflightningg aka @peggiecarter aka @annaethchase), has died (he was Felix Agreste). She's all alone as LB now. The whole of Paris mourns him.

She also meets the new kid, Adrien, and a new Chat Noir shows up. Suddenly, pulled through the "bugverse" into her own world is an older Marinette from another fanwork, possibly Semantitheft's L'Oublie Marinette. They bond while fighting the big bad (imagine a vibe kind of like @leviaana's wonderful comic about Minibug, the jaded older LB who still loves her younger self).

At a low moment for them, other Marinettes get pulled into her world, all from other fanfics. Maybe

a paranoid @buggachat BEAU Marinette or mistrustful one from @wackus-bonkus-maximus One Does Not Love Breathing

Maybe a Marinette from a Coffee Shop AU like Allez savoir pourqois by Yilena who has no powers but is still smart

Or possibly a blog AU like Chat Noir's Miraculous Award for Truly Magical Food by @mommadon. Non-magic Marinette will receive a miraculous as a temp hero!

Marinette from a fic where she's pregnant as fuck but still fighting (the one I'm thinking of it's kind of a twist she gets pregnant later on, so I won't mention it).

At some point in the fighting, we find out that Adrien died young in this universe and Papillon and Peahen are the enemies, and they're trying to get the miraculous to wish him back to life.

The Adrien in this universe is actually from a universe where Marinette/Ladybug is dead, and OMG, Marinette, he's Chat Noir!!!! Possibly from Hamburger Ladybug by @raspberrycatapult or from Last Wishes by @kasienda

Blah blah save the world, everyone returns to their universes. Hint at sequel that brings in other fanfics' Ladybug versions! Do we get a transdimentional love story?? Who knows? I DO!! (I don't.)

I think there's something of an ethical issue for me about using other people's Marinettes for my story, but I think if it's crack it's more OK (it's somewhat like parody) than if I were creating spinoffs with the same tone. BC to be honest, I suspect none of the BNFs would ever see a message from me asking permission. Better to beg forgiveness, right?

Miraculous: Bachelorette Edition

Alya, sick of watching Marinette flounder into her 20s, unable to confess to Adrien, submits her friend in secret as a potential Bachelorette for a reality TV show where many men vie for her hand. Through the magic of crack, a bunch of guys from the show end up contestants: Adrien (his father made him), Luka (he's pan so why not?), Nathaniel (STILL IN DENIAL about his feelings for Marc), Theo the sculptor with the bad soul patch, etc. Oh, and much to Ladybug's annoyance, Chat Noir is also a contestant?!

All of Paris is begging for Pajamagirl x Adrien Agreste

This is going through revisions in my head, but the initial kernel that is actually written down in my WIPs is

Ladybug falls in a crowded area and unconscious, de-transforms. Someone takes their camera out. "Don't you fucking take that picture. Hawkmoth can't know who she is!" Some teen girl "Is that Pajama Girl? Annette, I think that's Pajama Girl!" "OMG Charlotte, you're right! "Wait, didn't Adrien say in an interview that his celebrity crush is Ladybug?" "Dude didn't I see that Chat Noir took her on a date to Andre's?" Marinette wakes up surrounded by people, freaks out. "Don't worry girl, we're not gonna tell anyone, and no one took any pictures. Your secret's safe. Later that day, Annette and Charlotte get #adrienshoulddatepajamagirl trending on social media. Gabriel, who turns out to have been full of SHIT when he told Marinette that he determines what the public wants, pressures Adrien to date his Very Good Friend for the brand.

Jason knew that something was going on with Damian. The little brat had returned from a school trip to Paris and he'd seemed…different. He still snarled at everyone, he still lashed out if someone tried to touch him but he was practically glued to his phone. 

On a Saturday morning, Jason caught the demon smirking at the device, fingers flying as he typed into it. Already suspicious, he waited several moments before deciding he would get to the bottom of it. He cleared his throat and Damian jumped, glaring up at him.

“Tt, what do you want, Todd?” Damian was scowling, but his ears were tinged red. Immediately, Jason was cataloguing the way the younger boy angled his phone away and the way his eyes shifted away from Jason's when he tried to hold his gaze. 

“Nothing much, just wondered what you were up to,” Jason replied cautiously, not moving any closer in case he spooked the kid. “We haven't really talked since you got back from your school trip, did you have fun?”

“I do not know what relevance that could possibly be to you,” Damian retorted, still glaring. “But if you must know, it was an adequate use of my time, unlike this conversation. I did not accomplish everything I had hoped to whilst there, but it appears as though I will not be given a chance to return in the near future.”

It was the longest speech he had ever said to Jason, and it stunned him into silence. He stared for a few moments longer before apologising for interrupting and going to find Bruce. He may not agree with the man on several things, but surely they would agree that something was going on with the kid and help him get to the bottom of it.

When he approached Bruce's office, he could hear Tim and Bruce having a Serious Conversation(TM). They were speaking in low tones, clearly not wanting to be overheard and Jason decided he didn't want to start an argument so he announced his presence immediately. 

“Yo, something's up with Demon Spawn,” he declared, pushing the office door open. Bruce gave a sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. He didn't say anything, but Jason could almost hear the old bat say something about knocking. “Listen, I caught him doing something on his phone and he was practically smiling. And then he told me about his school trip with hardly any prompting. So, are we gonna get to the bottom of this, or what?”

“There isn't really anything to talk about. Brat just wants a longer vacation or something,” Tim said dismissively. Jason eyed him sceptically, before turning the look onto Bruce. “Seriously, that's it. He came in here to ask if he could go back because he ‘did not get to see all of the national monuments’ while he was there.”

“And that doesn't strike you as kind of odd? When has he ever wanted a vacation? Hell, we had to practically force him into the plane the first time, why would he suddenly want to go back?”

“He did mention that he didn't get to look around the Louvre properly,” Bruce offered, grimacing at the deadpan look Jason leveled at him. “Look, Jay, it's great that you're taking an interest in Damian, but I think you're seeing something that isn't there.”

Scowling lightly, Jason stalked out of the office without bothering to say goodbye, vowing to himself that he would get to the bottom of it. What he didn't expect was to get an answer by the end of the day, and by accident at that.

“...get there if you required me,” Damian said softly, gazing at his laptop screen. He didn't notice Jason in the hallway, which told Jason that the person he was speaking to had his undivided attention. He wondered if it was Jon, but he'd never heard him speak so gently with the Super. He was absolutely floored when a French female voice floated through the air next.

“It's fine, Dami, I understand. Besides, you were just here a week ago, it would be weird if they let you just come back,” the girl said, her tone consoling. “But thank you, I know I can count on you if I need you. Listen, I'd better go to bed soon, I'll need the sleep if something happens. Text me when you get up tomorrow?”

Damian murmured that he would, both of the kids whispering goodbye sweetly before he ended the video call. Jason froze, unsure if he was safe to move just yet, but not wanting to be caught spying. When a few minutes had passed, he decided it was better to leave than risk being found.

So, Damian had a little girlfriend. If it wasn't so bizarre, Jason would be filled with a manic glee over having something to blackmail the little shit with. But, since this was Damian, who didn't even like his family, let alone random girls, he was concerned more than anything.

He decided he needed more information before he did anything else, and that meant he was going to need to do some sneaking.

It took a couple of days, but Jason was able to hack into Damian’s phone and crack open his messages. There weren't many conversations open and undeleted, so it was pretty easy to locate the girl he had been talking to almost constantly since returning from France.

Her name was Marinette, and once he had it he was able to find her school information, her current employment and a bunch of social media accounts she ran. She seemed completely ordinary, a normal girl with a normal life and it just made him more confused - how had this seemingly sweet, creative kid decided to date Damian of all people.

Because he'd confirmed it by reading their messages, Demon Spawn had definitely snagged himself a French girlfriend while in Paris. And in spite of himself, Jason was impressed. When he'd been researching the girl, he had seen that whilst she was fairly ordinary, she was exceptional in her ordinary life.

She had been spotted by both Gabriel Agreste and Audrey Bourgeois, who practically ruled the fashion scene, apparently. Not only that but she was class president, helped with charity work and worked in her parent’s bakery. If ever there was an overachiever, this girl was it. 

The thing that alarmed him was the references to ‘akumas’ that came up semi-frequently, and when he dug into it, he was horrified to see that a kid's blog that he had dismissed as fantasy was actually a recording of a supervillain operating in Paris.

Jason wasted no time in confirming his findings and then presenting them to Bruce and co. He carefully kept the fact that Damian had a girlfriend to himself, not wanting to alert the family to the depth of his snooping.

Once everyone was aware of the threat, there were immediate plans made to visit Paris and help the young heroes. Damian was quizzed about what he had encountered whilst there and he reluctantly told them about what had happened.

Once he had finished, he added that he had only withheld the information because the local heroes had been vehemently opposed to other heroes becoming involved. They had described events in which civilians with meta abilities were turned into akumas with devastating results.

But since they were now aware, he began to advocate for select members of the Batfamily to visit Paris with the intention of ending the threat of Hawkmoth. Jason held back laughter as the kid adamantly refused to be left behind, threatening all manner of atrocities before Bruce agreed to bring him with them.

It took four days to make the necessary arrangements, and Damian's mood worsened with every delay. Bruce believed it was impatience to deal with a supervillain, but Jason could see the way he would glance at his phone as they discussed the delays. 

But, bizarrely, he didn't request using the Zeta Tubes to hurry the process. If Jason hadn't known he wanted to see his civilian girlfriend, who likely had no idea that he was Robin, he would have found it suspicious. Frankly, the fact that neither Tim nor Bruce found it suspicious was exasperating.

As soon as they stepped out of the airport, Damian declared that he was going to reconnect with his contacts in the class that his had shadowed when he came on the school trip. Jason smirked when he got out of the car outside a park that was adjacent to both a school and a bakery, but didn't say anything.

Once they were a little further away, Jason complained about sitting for too long until they pulled over and let him out too. It didn't take long to circle back and find where Damian was waiting for his girlfriend outside of her school. Checking the time, Jason grinned as he realised he would get to see their reunion himself any moment.

It was fun to observe the little hellion as he straightened up when his lady love stepped out of the building, laughing at something her friend had said. The girl in glasses that she was talking to was giggling as well, but they both pulled up short when Damian called out to Marinette.

It was so worth being there in person. The girl, Marinette, broke into a huge smile before racing down the stairs and throwing herself at Damian. He caught her easily, lifting her slightly and burying his face in the crook of her neck. Jason refrained from joining in the catcalls that her classmates started up, but he did take a few pictures, for posterity.

Now that he had seen it with his own two eyes, he decided it was time for him to circle back to the hotel and get some rest before they attempted to meet up with the French heroes later that day.

The first meeting with the French heroes went…well. They were obviously young, which made Jason feel things, but he counted to ten and pushed those feelings way down. He should be worried at how easily he repressed them, but that was a thought for later. There was something about Paris that was keeping the Pit Madness at bay and he wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth.

It was during the next day when they experienced their first akuma attack and Jason suited up excitedly. They stuck mostly to the rooftops, watching the fight as it inched closer and closer to them. 

Ladybug was yo-yo-ing around, nimbly dodging the akuma that called itself Veritas. It appeared to have the power to compel the truth out of people which, for heroes and vigilantes with secret identities? Not a great thing. And when Chat Noir distracted Ladybug with a poorly timed pun, Jason saw that Veritas was leveling his weapon at her back.

Thinking quickly, Jason shoved the young heroine out of the way and took the hit himself. He knew well enough that his secrets being spilled here, an ocean away from his home turf, was lower risk than Ladybug giving away her secrets directly to her own nemesis. He felt the pressure almost immediately and couldn't clench his teeth in time to stop the words from coming out.

“Robin has a girlfriend,” Jason blurted out, wincing at the glare the younger boy sent him. “She's a cute little pixie girl, dark hair and blue eyes - honestly she's adoption bait for B if anything - and her name is-”

“Enough, Red Hood,” Robin barked, flinging a batarang at his helmet. But it didn't stop him, nothing seemed able to stop him.

“-Marinette.”

A choked noise came from Ladybug and they all turned to look at her. She was bright red, her skin blending into her suit a little as she stared dumbstruck at Robin. But then she seemed to shake it off and merely gave him a significant look before swinging away.

Jason could feel more secrets bubbling under his skin, a compulsion to share everything straining his lungs. And then, abruptly, it vanished. It took a moment to realize that some poor woman had been hit and was telling her work colleague about a fantasy she had had about her.

“Looks like she can only compel one person at a time,” Ladybug said, dropping back down on an adjacent rooftop. “I think it's time for a Lucky Charm!”

Within seconds, Ladybug had concocted a convoluted plan and gave a series of bizarre orders to her partner and the Bats. Even more bizarre, it worked, and after only one or two minutes Veritas was free of the akuma. 

“Bye bye little butterfly. Miraculous Ladybug!” Ladybug threw the telescope in the air and magic washed over everything, righting any wrongs and stopping the verbal tirade from a very overworked waiter at a nearby café. “Well, thanks for your help, but we should probably-”

“Aw, come on Bugaboo, we've got a couple of minutes!” Chat said, leaning on his staff and grinning. “I for one am very curious about this girlfriend of Robin. Marinette, you said, didn't you Red Hood? Cute girl with dark hair and blue eyes, I believe?”

“Chat, I don't think that now is the time. Besides which they're clearly talking about their civilian lives and we should not be prying,” Ladybug said severely, an unamused look on her face.

“But the description just happens to match a certain baker's daughter that we know-”

“It also matches my physical description, Chat, it doesn't mean anything! Robin and the others are from America, what's the likelihood of it being some nobody from Paris?” Ladybug looked annoyed now, her hand cocked on her hip. “But regardless it is none of our business. Now our timers are running low, so move your mangy butt out of here.”

“Me-ouch,” Chat said as Ladybug leapt from the roof, yo-yo arching out and pulling her away. “Well, as the boss says, cat-ch you all later!”

When the Bats were alone they all stared at Robin, except for Jason who was studying the rooftop intently. He felt bad that he'd blurted out the little guy’s secret but he also knew that all bets were off when it came to magic.

“We can discuss this properly when we're back to base,” Batman said at last, gesturing for everyone to get off the rooftop and make their separate ways back to the hotel rooms.

The text exchange between Marinette and Damian at the beginning

Marinette: And it will be well deserved. But just out of curiosity, what did you tell them was the reason you wanted to come back to Paris so soon?

Marinette: My break starts in 20 minutes! Text me if you're free xox

Damian: Good morning, Marinette. How is your day going so far? My father is being impossible, as is Drake, and I have escaped on a coffee run if you have a few minutes to chat?

Marinette: Hey Dami! It's going okay, my friend is refusing to let me do four shots of espresso so that I can function, which is just rude really. What'd B & T do?

Damian: Drake declined my request to go on a trip to Paris for Wayne Enterprises and father agreed with him. The betrayal has been bitter and I shall enact my revenge when they least suspect it.

Damian: Tt, I hardly see how that is relevant.

Marinette: Did you just type *tt* at me?? Seriously? Damian.

Damian: That was uncalled for, I am sorry, Marinette. Whilst I am frustrated, I should not have taken it out on you. What can I do to make it up to you?

Marinette: Dami, you don't have to do anything! I'm sorry you're so frustrated, I wish I could help.

Damian: Talking to you always helps, chérie. Why are you so tired today?

Marinette: Ugh, Hawkass decided to give a kid who had a nightmare the power to bring other people's nightmares to life. It was horrendous, and I couldn't sleep afterwards because of nightmares.

Damian: I am so sorry, is there anything I can do?

Marinette: Unless you can work out who he is, the only thing that will help is time. Besides, talking to you always makes me feel better <3 

WAIT A MINUTE.

Damian: Yes?

Marinette: You didn't answer my question! Gah, I have to go back now, but we will be talking about this later. Have a good day xox

For this reason, among others, I have included dates in my Master Masterlist and have dates enabled on tumblr. Also, there are a lot of repeated tropes in this fandom, so it's hard to write completely new content without reusing some elements of others' stories. I’ve done my best to use my own ideas and put my own spin on the tropes without copying others’ works.

I just had a maribat prompt idea

After a little bit of research, I found out that Joker became insane from the death of his wife and unborn child.

What if Red Hood successfully beat the shit out of Joker, but when he was about to kill him, Batman called him in and so he had to go to avoid bringing the big bat to joker and bringing him back to life, especially since the likelihood of joker surviving was very small.

What if he went insane whilst imagining his child, assuming is a daughter, grew up to kind and a sunshine child similarly to his wife, who often found things to laugh about and brighten people's days, hence the laughing gas.

What if a new to Gatham Marinette finds Joker in the alley and doesn't recognise him because of how soaked in blood he is, and using her time as ladybug to her advantage, carefully lifts Joker and brings him inside, patching it up, like a pro that she learnt in case the cure wouldn't work ( through YT, experience and an army medic course) .

What if the first thing a concussed Joker hears is Marinette laughing over the phone at something her dad or mum or even Jagged said, while wrapping his ribs in a makeshift cast to help heal his broken ribs.

What if all his make up is removed and only the tips are green due to how much she had to wash it to get rid of the blood and make sure he won't bleed to death?

What if he has such a heavy concussion that he has temporary memory loss, and her black /blue hair make him think she's his unborn dead daughter, who coincidentally was planned to name Marinette after his wife's family member (mother/sister/ idol maybe?) That he's upset when she explains that she doesn't know him and just found him hurt in an alleyway?

What if they bonded over fashion? And Marinette taught him to make his own clothes when he was healed enough to do so? What if she taught him how to bake? What if he slowly over the months of healing got mentally better?

What if everyone is on edge cause the jokers been missing for months but there is no report on him being dead and red hood is doing his best to find him and kill him since its obvious that he survived since there was a slight bloody trail left,though it suddenly disappeared (thanks to the use of the house miraculous)

What if, due to being on bedrest and banned from watching the news to avoid getting stressed, he doesn't get his memory back until he only has a broken hand left and 2 stitches, from 2 knife wounds when he is finally able to leave to help get up on his feet since unless he's his own boss, he's most definitely fired.

What if once he has his memories back, he doesn't necessarily want to go back to being a criminal? What if he lets joker be declared dead and meets with Marinettes parents who welcome him fo the family like they did with Jagged and he becomes Jack Dupain?

What if after 2 years of being happy, guilt starts to eat him alive? What if he is a co-creator of clothes with marinette to allow her to have twice the amount of commissions so he too is rich now. What if he "annominously" gives money and printed apolagy letters to EVERYONE he had hurt, red hood for killing him, families of people he killed, Harley for all the mental damage he did, people that got injured in his attacks, all singed by Joker. What if he finally confesses about everything to his new found family and they don't treat him any differently than they did before, because in reality, Tom and Sabine knew all along, having recognised him but saw that he had decided to change for the better?
