Alright guys, here’s how Patti LuPone can still win…
#no full predictions but my only shots that I’ll take are that I think Julianne pulls it off#that Margot is safe in actress but gerwig will almost certainly be skipped over#I think glazer and triet both getting in has about a 70% chance of happening but that’s dépendant on paynes showing#sessa WONT get in and neither will sterling k brown but I couldn’t possibly tell you who replaces them#and Taste of Things 🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

sterling watched the collapse of margot's features, the scrunch of her face and the spill of tears from her waterline. the moment that her cheeks glittered and her hands raised he moved forward, crouching to close the gap between their heights, breathing into the kiss as though the woman in his arms was his only source of oxygen. he never thought they would embrace again. the taste of her lips, the warmth of her body in his arms, the tickle of her sandy hair against his cheek was heavenly, a miracle that he had been praying for ever since they separated. "i love you." sterling whispered into her hair as he kissed her parting, inhaling the scent of her shampoo, the tiny details of which he had missed so much it ached. "i know, sweetheart, i know. i wish i could take it all away. i wish i could turn back time and not be such a fucking idiot. but if i can do one thing, it'll be building up what we lost. it'll take time. will you be patient with me?" he was sure there wasn't a more forgiving, more loving, more perfect woman in the world.
his words send sparks through her system, tears pooling within hazel hues. margot doesn't want to cry but she can't help it, emotions spill over in times like these. she always wanted to feel like the first choice. the only one. it's hard to believe it, but she could feel his sincerity. a soft smile adorns her features, eyes closing for a brief moment as she savors his close proximity. she takes a deep breath before her eyes open once again. " i love you, " she speaks slowly, each word feeling as though it meant more than the last. her hands only let go of his to reach up towards his face, cupping his jaw to gently pull him closer. she arches up on her tip-toes, lips crashing into his in a passionate kiss. " seeing you with her... " she mumbles against his mouth, pulling away for only a moment to utter " it just drove me crazy. "

A large and rare c1950 sterling silver zodiac pendant depicting scales for Libra, made by the Mexico-based jeweler Margot de Taxco. Hangs on an unusual 30 inch long niello guard chain, likely dating to c1900.
Niello is a black mixture of copper, silver, and lead inlaid into engraved silver. It's a centuries old technique, but it was particularly popular in France, Germany, and Russia at the end of the 19th century.

It was very obvious Margot wasn’t going to get the best actress nom, (not her fault, the narrative turned her into a tertiary character midway through the second act).
However, if you’re saying her performance pales so drastically in comparison to those of Lily Gladstone (fair), Emma Stone, and Carey Mulligan, then you cannot be serious in stating that Ryan Gosling’s performance even comes close to Robert Downey Jr.’s, Sterling K. Brown’s, Mark Ruffalo’s, or Robert De Niro’s.
Be so serious.
#Margot; get behind me sister!#margot robbie#idc anymore I’ll tag her.#not even discussing Annette#I don’t have the energy for that right now.

thinking about it now, Charles Melton should've been nominated for best supporting actor instead of Ryan Gosling as Ken
This might be a hot take here on tumblr dot com buuuuuuuuut
I think Ryan’s nomination is actually deserved.
If we accept the premise of the Oscars, and accept the existence of the Barbie movie, Ryan as Ken could have come off as ridiculous and try-hard but it didn't. My one quibble is that he is too old to play Ken opposite Margot as Barbie (there is ten years difference between them, and there's only so much that makeup and moisturizer can do) but other than that, Ryan Gosling absolutely has the comedy chops and by my count he delivered an adequately charming performance.
This is an aside but something that's getting lost in the hashtag white feminism conversation is that it is narratively absurd that the film industry has rewarded the less important guy but not the literal lead girl from the feminism 101 movie. It feels intellectually dishonest to not acknowledge how on the nose this is. We can talk more about this on @fandomshatewomen if people wanna get into it.
Back to your message though, if we’re exploring hypotheticals, how about we look at the rest of the list of noms:
Mark Ruffalo for Poor Things
Robert Downey Jr for Oppenheimer
Ryan Gosling for Barbie
Robert De Niro for Killers of the Flower Moon
Sterling K Brown for American Fiction
If we are swapping out someone on this list, my personal choice would be Robert De Niro, backup option Robert Downey Jr.
Both of these men are already household names, and this was not either of their best work or tbh even like among their better work. Also, neither of them “needs” this nomination, it does nothing for their careers.
But for an actor like Charles Melton who is good at his job but very much at the beginning of his career, it could mean a meaningful increase to the money his agents can negotiate for him on subsequent projects. Like yes, numbers vary, but the “awards bump” is a thing, and proportionally speaking it would mean WAY more for his career than one of the Roberts.
• mod dyr
#awards season#academy awards#oscars 2024#charles melton#also just to like complete the list#mark ruffalo did a really good job in his role i thought the movie sucked but his role was compelling#sterling k brown also did fantastic he was captivating but like understated???? idk it was a really interesting experience#but yeah one of the Roberts really really really coulda sat out this round the academy is tiresome lmao#also just in case it needs saying ‘deserved’ does not mean ‘entitled to’ re ryan gosling…#all i mean by deserved is that if we accept the premise of the oscars as an award then imo he fulfilled the qualifications#and another thing deserved the nomination does not mean deserves to win#i wouldnt be surprised if he does (because capitalism) but in terms of The Art Of It All im personally rooting for ruffalo

i think what irks me the most about the discourse surrounding margot and greta not getting nominated is that people are grossly downplaying either of their accomplishments? the barbie defenders have looped around to being regressive because why are you acting as if barbie is THE most important film that either of them have ever done or WILL ever do?
not even counting the unquantifiable cultural impact, greta and margot are both highly decorated entertainers. margot has been nominated for two academy awards, both acting. both of greta gerwig's films have been nominated for academy awards, and have won multiple awards. it's almost embarrassing to watch people act as if these women in their thirties haven't been in the entertainment business for years?
now what really gets me is how much these people are downplaying other accomplishments. two black women and one honduran woman in the supporting actress category! three black men nominated for acting awards! an indigenous woman being nominated for the first time in history! many lifelong actors are being recognized for their decades of work – paul giamatti, cillian murphy, jeffrey wright, sterling k. brown (to name a few). justine triet's historic best director nomination. godzilla minus one being the first japanese film to be nominated for best visual effects. killers of the flower moon, past lives, and american fiction receiving best picture noms – films with nonwhite leads.
and on top of that? margot robbie IS being recognized for her work on barbie in a historic way – she's receiving her first EVER oscar nomination as a PRODUCER of a film in the BEST PICTURE category – meaning, regardless if barbie wins or not, she is now an academy award-nominated producer who owns her own production company (luckychap) meaning she will absolutely use this momentum to put more women's stories to screen.
i'm just confused as to why we're acting like barbie didn't receive 8 nominations? you're demeaning women of color to prop up your favorites (who would hate you for that, by the way) when margot robbie and greta getwig are NOT the examples you should be using to do so, because both of them were successful before barbie, and will be even MORE successful after barbie.
you should focus your energy on supporting frontrunners like lily gladstone, da'vine joy randolph, danielle brooks, etc.
i'm also very confused as to why we're acting as if the academy voter's nominations have EVER reflected the public's opinion, especially considering they're roughly 75% middle aged white men. do you really think those men resonated with american ferrera's monologue? be honest with yourselves.
#i'm not even saying any of this in defense of margot robbie and greta gerwig as PEOPLE#i'm saying this objectively .. because y'all are objectively wrong#i didn't mention ryan gosling because i don't care to but he is quite literally an academy darling in the same way leo is#may not get nominated or win every year but people recognize his talent anyway#i'm just fed up to be honest#there are better posts that are smarter than mine that are in defense of lily/da'vine/danielle/etc#i'm just here to criticize the hypocrisy of the white women supposedly uplifting their token white favs
