Speaking of, saw this paper going around and its one of those "yeah...we all knew this in our hearts" moments:

Voters do not actually care if you implement the policies you say you will! They just want you to talk about it. Feel seen, ya know?

there was NOTHING (ABSOLUTELY NOTHING) kamala could have done to win this election. NOTHING.

A must read that includes the percentages of how each demographic voted. An alarming number of marginalized people defected to Trump.

Reminder: even if trump wins, we’ll be ok. The presidency isnt the only political position that matters, he wont be a dictator, the president doesnt have the power to remove every other part of government that keeps the president’s power in check. Also politics isnt the only thing that matters. Even if we lose some rights (which he cant singlehandedly do) we still have community, we still have activism, we’ll always be ok. We survived one trump presidency, we can survive another. We survived before gay marriage or transitioning were legal, if we have to survive that again we will. Please, no matter what happens, promise to stay alive. Youre valuable, youre important, and youre going to be ok. Its better to be overprepared than underprepared. Im not asking you to lose hope (im doing the opposite of that), im asking you to practice coping ahead, get all your coping skills ready, determine now to stay alive, because i dont want any of you to make any rash decisions later in case we get bad news and emotions are high. Make a safety plan if you need to. Make sure you’re gonna be ok

today is an excellent day to reach out to your local socialist and anarchist organizations, food not bombs chapters, mutual aid organizations, queer organizations and support groups, palestinian liberation groups, refugee organizations, reproductive rights groups, or somewhere else in your community with unique need for your time and resources
ask when their next meeting is. ask how to join their effort
if you have the privilege to grieve, you have the ability to act!!!
let’s get organized and get to work

I would really like people outside of the US, who are so quick to point fingers at this entire country when half of us are suffering, to please
sit the fuck down

Hey, if you live in the US and haven't voted yet, PLEASE go vote. Not to put too fine a point on it, but your queer friends, your disabled friends, your Black and Brown friends, your trans friends... we're all terrified of what will happen to us under another Trump presidency. Your vote saves lives.
(Also reminder that in most states your employer is required to give you time off to vote, so "I have work today" is not an excuse!)

Marginal thinking is hard. So much political coverage gets hung up thinking about the typical voter for a party, rather than the marginal voter. Or thinking about whether the majority of a demographic group will flip, rather than whether the distribution of support will change.
An effect that persuades 1% of voters matters hugely. But it still feels like "no one" is changing their mind; in an average waiting room no one will!
Trump isn't going to "win the Black vote" in 2024, and various people will point this out; but the difference between getting 10% and getting 20% is enormous.
Large-scale democracy just isn't very intuitive!

doing math on voter turnout is making me twitch with fervent hopeless hope bc like
there are now 2.7 million registered voters in harris county, which had a turnout of 66% and went to biden by 56% in 2020
if kamala matches those percentages now, that will account for just shy of a million votes -- more than 300k raw votes more than in 2020
...when trump won texas by around 600k votes
and that's matching those figures -- if turnout is higher, if her margin is higher, that eats sharply away at that margin even more
i'm just... there's a reason she came to houston less than ten days before election day and it wasn't to see the astros

The number of chronically online blue state leftists who agree that Palestinians have a right to safely stay in their homes that then turn around and tell marginalized people in red states to “just move” is… telling, to say the least.

Here's to the thousands of gerrymandered people who couldn't vote and the 1% of voters who voted third party. I hope y'all are safe and I wish you well

I will never understand so-called "radfems" voting for Trump. You are not a radical feminist, you only pretended to be. In reality you're a conservative.
