I know the show focuses on the crush aspect but really it's not all that surprising to me that charles, the boy who died in a hate crime protecting someone else from a hate crime, saw a black 16 year old girl with none of her important memories about herself or how to get home and decided that she should stay with them

Now consider: a man in a dress. Not in drag or all dressed up or anything. No accessories, no makeup or styling, just wearing the dress, some ratty boxers and muddy sneakers. No socks or stockings, hairy legs in the open air, just raw dogging those nasty shoes. Hair mildly damp. Visibly sleep-deprived. Bruises on shoulders, elbows and knees, left palm bleeding. Sitting on a curb on the street, shivering, looking wretched, and absolutely miserable.
I forgot where I was going with this.

Something I like about dungeon meshi is that Falin's resurrection is never treated like a bad thing. Sure it was "forbidden magic" and Marcille TECHNICALLY committed a crime, but the story is pretty clear that these are just laws created by people, and that that doesn't make it inherently immoral. There's never any implication that Falin was "supposed to die" or that "it was her time." The narrative says that Falin continuing to live is unambiguously a good thing. That Marcille made the right choice in wanting Falin to keep living. It was a pure act. Unlawful, but good.

"I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy" nah fuck that I would. Actually if I could choose to have any superpower, I'd want the power to make people feel whatever I've felt at any point of my life, at my choice. Someone mildly inconveniences me, I'm letting them have 30 minutes of being five years old and trying to learn how to cry silently because you know nobody's coming to help you and if someone hears you, they're coming to make it worse. Fuck you and your eyebrows.

I know I'm preaching to the choir but like. You know you can wear masks for other sicknesses. Not just covid. If you have the flu or a cold or a stomach bug you can still wear a mask to help prevent the spread of it to others if you insist on going out! I just think it's the polite thing to do

It is true that part of the reason Edwin runs the Dead Boy Detective Agency is to bolster his case with the afterlife, to prove the value of his soul. And he hardly wishes to further stain it.
It is also true, however, that his soul is already damned, and Charles’s isn’t. So, between the two of them, if one of them must damn themselves, better it be Edwin. It’s a simple practical calculation.
They are not violent, really, either of them, by nature. Most of their cases don’t even involve combat at all; they do detective work and research and sneak about looking in windows and it may not resolve tidily in a bow but it doesn’t get messy. And when they do have to fight, most of the time, Charles blocks blows and hands out only a few himself, and Edwin casts a spell or two, until they have resolved the case and that’s the end of it.
Once in a while they have to put down a monster, and it’s usually Charles who does it, unless it requires a verbal spell, and Charles is always a little sad, afterwards, even if the monster had already killed people and was actively attempting to kill them at the time.
But very, very occasionally, there have been people, sapient beings, that couldn’t be kept down with a spell or a bat, that couldn’t simply be left to Death or to Hell to do the hard bit.
Edwin does not hide from Charles that he has killed.
He does not sneak away to assassinate and conceal it from Charles, after. Or at least not all the time.
After all, sometimes he has to do it in front of Charles. When he realizes they have no choice, and that Charles is gearing up to cross a line he has never crossed - Edwin makes sure he never will.
Takes his turn in their battle-dance, spins in front of Charles and slides in the knife, or shoves, or whistles, once (a rather involved tale).
Because his soul is already damned, and he’s not going to let Charles’s become so. No matter what it takes.
(When he told Charles “that was extreme,” he meant - Why did you do that? That’s my job. Why didn’t you let me?)
The living are messy, and Edwin is the one who is left washing the blood off his hands. Because he chooses to be. And he always will.

A palestinian American boy was shot by the IOF and no one even cares in the US. not like I didn't know that Palestinians will always be treated as if they're invisible in US politics but it really puts in perspective how Palestinian Americans are treated vs how israeli Americans. No one will shut up about the American guy who hamas has but us Palestinians dying as children is just whatever.

Esther & An Argument
📍325 Cambie St., Vancouver
Frame Edit Courtesy of: @nix-nihili
Location bts:
This location is across the street from the Tongue & Tail Butcher Shop. In Dead Boy Detectives they very clearly show Esther from this angle in Episode 3, so her frame was easy to find. It took me longer to realize the argument that Crystal, Charles and Edwin have is further down this same alley.
Originally I thought the argument might be behind the malt shop, but it didn't quite match. Then Tony Wohlgemuth posted a picture of Charles walking away into the mist, which I incorrectly thought was related to this scene. I did find that alley, and it will feature in a future post, but it isn't this one.
Also please enjoy this graffiti I found that definitely felt like a call-out to all of us.

I mean I know a certain level of projection on fictional characters and situations is inevitable and even healthy, but sometimes you got to step back into the real world to remind yourself that Character X is not your shitty parent/abusive ex/asshole boss/bully from high school, and that people who like Character X are not personally victimizing you.
