"Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday” to reflect the practice of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season. It’s also a time to bring out those colorful beads and masks and party! This celebration goes on in many parts of the world in various forms. So get out there and join the Mardi Gras celebrations on February 21, and party with the world!" - Nationaltoday.com

Miku trend on twitter… Okay so basically I wanted to do a miku based on alabama bc I’ve seen lots of funny mikus for other states and my state is pretty silly but then I remembered: It’s Alabama. That’s only gonna inspire gross jokes.
A part of me REALLY wanted to do specifically lower Alabama because I feel our culture is very different from the northern half of the state. That got me thinking abt how my city is the home of Mardi Gras. Then I got rly into a sketch of Mardi Gras hatsune miku
She’s go fucking gaudy I’m obsessed with her

On the 20th anniversary of revenge, I dare to ask the important question I've never seen anyone bring up: What was the demolition man doing in New Orleans in the first place to be taking a train out? 🤔

Anyone who’s interested in ‘Australia’s Stonewall Moment’ will be interested in reading about the ‘78ers: the first marchers in what they coined the ‘Mardi Gras’ which turned violent after police blocked them off and began to violently arrest people.
Tonight, 45 years later, Sydney hosts World Pride 2023 and the 45th Mardi Gras parade and it’s a huge celebrated event.
We’ve got a long way to go - but we also need to celebrate our tenacity, our survival and how far we’ve come.

excited for the carnaval event, although a bit disappointed it's only the brazilian one.
i mean, there isn't a belgian cc to tell them, but french speaking belgium has a pretty important carnaval too!
If people are curious:
It happens in the town of Binche; kids and sometimes adults put costumes on, throw confetti and paper rubans everywhere, and will watch/follow a parade made by the Gilles de Binche, men dressed up like this
only men from Binche can be gilles! They must wake up very early to put the costume on, and often they have family members with them
They have baskets with oranges in them, and throw the oranges at people (or sometimes just give them directly), and they hit the ground with their wooden shoes to chase winter away
It's pretty fun, especially for children, and, as any celebration in belgium, is an excellent excuse to drink a lot of beers!
The carnaval de Binche was actually recognized by the UNESCO!

So I just shirked some responsibilities I shouldn't have shirked to watch most of Sharper because otherwise I wouldn't be able to until Sunday and I just couldn't wait - HOWEVER, I had to stop watching with 30 mins left to watch because my friends are coming over for dinner and they'd never let me live it down if I didn't cook because I was too busy watching Sebastian Stan's new movie 🙃
So basically, this was a stupid idea because now I'm SO EAGER to see how it ends and idk if I can finish watching it tonight 😂 Pray for me and my dumb ass.
Anyways, it is SO GOOD AAAHHH, I'm literally obsessed 😍😍😍😍

Although I’m excited for the country-exclusive cultural events on the qsmp, I’m also hoping for more international holiday events where everyone gets to show the unique way their culture celebrates the holiday

That Time
Mardi Gras time.
Time to party.
Time to dance. Time to see old friends. Time for carnival. Time for Mardi Gras.
Actually, all of that started on January 6th, the Twelfth Night. The night when the wise men brought Mardi Gras to New Orleans. Or, something like that.
I may have mentioned it in passing, but I didn’t show this unpublished picture. I don’t remember where this one came from, but I…

Everyone I know is posting pictures of them celebrating Mardi Gras and captioning it “everywhere else, it’s just a Tuesday" while I scroll through them from somewhere where it is in fact just a Tuesday :(

Bacchus on Napoleon and St. Charles. I got married at St. Stephens for a reason, to be reminded of our day each parade we catch on Napoleon.

* * * *
“In the spring of 1988, I returned to New Orleans, and as soon as I smelled the air, I knew I was home.
It was rich, almost sweet, like the scent of jasmine and roses around our old courtyard.
I walked the streets, savoring that long lost perfume.”
