"Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday” to reflect the practice of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season. It’s also a time to bring out those colorful beads and masks and party! This celebration goes on in many parts of the world in various forms. So get out there and join the Mardi Gras celebrations on February 21, and party with the world!" - Nationaltoday.com

you open yourself up to the devil by celebrating Halloween in the same way you open yourself up to the devil by celebrating St. Paddy's or Mardi Gras.
if you play ouija or try voodoo, you open yourself up to the devil. if you dress in a slutty costume or take psychedelics in a cemetery, you open yourself up to the devil.
likewise, if you get wasted on Guinness in downtown Savannah, you open yourself up to the devil.
if you twerk half-naked for plastic beads on Bourbon Street, you open yourself up to the devil.
these kinds of bacchanalia are by no means inherent to the holidays in question, and in fact, are extremely recent perversions of traditions which go back centuries. Centuries of Christian history.
#the notion that Halloween has pagan origins is a MYTH#spread by whiny witch losers who want to carve out some piece of Western culture for their degeneracy#the ex-witches and the ex-atheists who feel personal conviction about Halloween#feel it because they participated in that degeneracy#and for that reason they as individuals probably *should* stay away from Halloween BUT#most Halloween celebrators--particularly if they're cradle Christians--have NEVER experienced that version of Halloween#I certainly never ever have. and we had massive Halloween parties with all our friends. we even party-hopped once#and it was all entirely innocent#same goes for Mardi Gras#their decadence and salacity are the stuff of TV to me.#Halloween#x#Christianity

Miku trend on twitter… Okay so basically I wanted to do a miku based on alabama bc I’ve seen lots of funny mikus for other states and my state is pretty silly but then I remembered: It’s Alabama. That’s only gonna inspire gross jokes.
A part of me REALLY wanted to do specifically lower Alabama because I feel our culture is very different from the northern half of the state. That got me thinking abt how my city is the home of Mardi Gras. Then I got rly into a sketch of Mardi Gras hatsune miku
She’s go fucking gaudy I’m obsessed with her
#I want her to throw one of those hollow plastic footballs at me and have the raw seams cut my forehead#I should get some noise canceling headphones and go to Mardi Gras next year#I haven’t gone back bc my family made the mistake of celebrating in Biloxi and the experience was SO BAD#my stuff#hatsune miku

On the 20th anniversary of revenge, I dare to ask the important question I've never seen anyone bring up: What was the demolition man doing in New Orleans in the first place to be taking a train out? 🤔

Anyone who’s interested in ‘Australia’s Stonewall Moment’ will be interested in reading about the ‘78ers: the first marchers in what they coined the ‘Mardi Gras’ which turned violent after police blocked them off and began to violently arrest people.
Tonight, 45 years later, Sydney hosts World Pride 2023 and the 45th Mardi Gras parade and it’s a huge celebrated event.
We’ve got a long way to go - but we also need to celebrate our tenacity, our survival and how far we’ve come.
#Sydney gay and lesbian mardi gas#Australian history#australian queer history#mardi gras#I've been in the parade twice and loved it both times#absolutely electric with ONE MILLION PEOPLE lining the streets to watch#broadcast on TV#everyone was cheering and singing and dancing and I'm getting literal tears thinking about myself as a queer teenager crying alone in my bed#this was a truly coming of age moment for me#stepping out in the streets to be celebrated for who I am#I still remember looking at the smiling cheering faces of queers and allies in the crowd#and feeling so very much at home suddenly#amongst people who accepted me

excited for the carnaval event, although a bit disappointed it's only the brazilian one.
i mean, there isn't a belgian cc to tell them, but french speaking belgium has a pretty important carnaval too!
If people are curious:
It happens in the town of Binche; kids and sometimes adults put costumes on, throw confetti and paper rubans everywhere, and will watch/follow a parade made by the Gilles de Binche, men dressed up like this
only men from Binche can be gilles! They must wake up very early to put the costume on, and often they have family members with them
They have baskets with oranges in them, and throw the oranges at people (or sometimes just give them directly), and they hit the ground with their wooden shoes to chase winter away
It's pretty fun, especially for children, and, as any celebration in belgium, is an excellent excuse to drink a lot of beers!
The carnaval de Binche was actually recognized by the UNESCO!
#qsmp#qsmp carnaval#from doing a quick read to check if i dont say anything wrong it seems the full celebration is much longer?#but im not from binche and only really celebrated mardi gras so i don't want to accidentally misinform

you reminded me that writing this was such a powertrip im almost mad i havent made him speak fr*nch (joke censor) almost at all since. (then again, i do know a little bit of french, just not anything of the dialect. je suis un idiot.)
REALREALL such a missed opportunity they didnt have him speaking french in BL3. whats the point of making space louisiana if theres no space cajun.
#borderlands#also for your consideration: edenian mardi gras.#i think it would have been very important to wainwright when he was a young man. though im not sure how hed feel about it now in his 50s#^ talking specifically about NOLAs mardi gras. though eden-6 is so rural theyd probably celebrate courir de mardi gras instead.#which involves a lot of foolishness and getting hurt and chasing chickens for gumbo. also smth winny mightve enjoyed when he was younger.#wainwrightjakobshammerlock#^ he is clearly very normal about all of this. anyways im sure theres a way to incorporate both versions.

So I just shirked some responsibilities I shouldn't have shirked to watch most of Sharper because otherwise I wouldn't be able to until Sunday and I just couldn't wait - HOWEVER, I had to stop watching with 30 mins left to watch because my friends are coming over for dinner and they'd never let me live it down if I didn't cook because I was too busy watching Sebastian Stan's new movie 🙃
So basically, this was a stupid idea because now I'm SO EAGER to see how it ends and idk if I can finish watching it tonight 😂 Pray for me and my dumb ass.
Anyways, it is SO GOOD AAAHHH, I'm literally obsessed 😍😍😍😍
#tomorrow we're going to be out all day celebrating carnaval#which is like mardi gras meets halloween#I'm going as a cowboy#stay tuned for pics#if I remember 😂#anyway#sharper is so good!!!!#loving SO much so far#sebastian stan#sharper

Although I’m excited for the country-exclusive cultural events on the qsmp, I’m also hoping for more international holiday events where everyone gets to show the unique way their culture celebrates the holiday
#qsmp#like the different ways new years is celebrated or more countries independence days since the Fourth of July is having a sorta’ve event#not sure if the smp will last this long but I’d be most excited for the carnival holidays#I know it’s rlly big in Brazil and England has shrove Tuesday#none of the Americans are gonna do Mardi Gras and I have to accept that (😔) but maybe I can see the holiday from a France perspective?

That Time
Mardi Gras time. Time to party. Time to dance. Time to see old friends. Time for carnival. Time for Mardi Gras. Actually, all of that started on January 6th, the Twelfth Night. The night when the wise men brought Mardi Gras to New Orleans. Or, something like that. I may have mentioned it in passing, but I didn’t show this unpublished picture. I don’t remember where this one came from, but I…
