The one-state reality goes mainstream
Writing in the journal Foreign Affairs, four noted, quite mainstream scholars of U.S. policy in the Middle East–Michael Barnett, Nathan Brown, Marc Lynch, and Shibley Telhami–describe “The One-State Reality” that exists in Palestine and Israel today. The piece is meant to promote their book, The One-State Reality: What Is Israel-Palestine? I should note, the book features a collection of essays…

Yeah, yeah we like it
I’ve got something gonna make you scream
Yeah, yeah we like it
I’m the candidate pushing your American dream
Yeah, yeah we like it
All politicians got their pants on fire
Everybody knows the situation is dire
I’m no messiah and I ain’t no liar
But I know what ya want and I know you’re gonna like it
Yeah, yeah we like it
A tap in the kitchen, that turns on the beer
Yeah, yeah we like it
There’ll be no hangovers, they’re illegal here
Yeah, yeah we like it
Now everyone is beautiful from north to south
The only ugly things are what come out our mouths
Peace, love and fun is what it’s all about
‘Cause I know what ya want and I know you’re gonna like it
Improve your life, husband or wife
Until you're bored or dead and done
Promise you cash, your own fat stash
You know we print it by the ton
You won't go belly up
i'll overflow your cup
'Cause I know what you want and I know your gonna like it
Yeah, yeah we like it
Yeah, yeah we like it…

garcia - barnett headcanons ;
( for the nora & tripp verse )
though stella never changes her last name, she does change nora's to barnett-garcia so that when floyd adopts her officially, he has no issue arguing that she's his child ( at school, doctors, etc. )
nora is three and a half years older than tripp and almost a foot shorter than him
stella teaches both their kids spanish so that they can visit her family in cuba, and floyd often listens in so he understands a lot more than people think he would
stella cuts all of their hair, and when nora hits 13, she starts to teach her how to do so too
nora takes her protective streak from stella and when the two move out on their own, she keeps a much closer eye on her little brother than he probably wants
while tripp is a mama's boy, nora is absolutely a daddy's girl and would often follow floyd around growing up so she could be wherever he is
floyd is the only father she's ever known - though her birth father, marc, said he wanted to be involved, it was evident by the time she was a toddler that he wouldn't be reliable and stella and floyd fought for full custody so nora wouldn't have her heart broken
tripp offered to beat up nora's first serious boyfriend who broke up with her, despite that he was 13 and scrawny and she was dating a baseball player who could destroy him
in turn, nora has not so subtly threatened anyone tripp ever brings home that if they hurt him, she knows how to kill someone and get away with it
literal sunshine vs goth princess, but family is important to all four of them and stella & floyd make them come home once a month for dinner so stella can fret about if they're eating enough and taking care of themselves and floyd can sneak money into tripp's wallet
they have a regular game night but monopoly is banned because nora once handcuffed tripp to the kitchen table after catching him cheating as the banker. they were in middle school. no one knows where she got the handcuffs.
bonus they both love spending time with tj because she never once treated them like kids and taught both of them how to throw a punch before they were even in double digits

It was inspired by the poetry of Chika Sagawa. Unlike most female Japanese poets of her time, she wove Western influences into her work, used free verse to explore her interiority rather than relying on traditional forms, and expressed an individual relationship with nature. On a personal level, I relate to her condition: fragile physically, standing up alone, trying to make sense of the universe. And aesthetically we converge: deep pain and radiant beauty resonate throughout her work, often triggered in the same moment. Chika Sagawa died before her twenty-fifth birthday. I dedicate my piece to her.

Quote: “Black women, in particular, have been subjugated and misinterpreted in photography since the early days of the medium.  This is true both in domestic treatments, such as Trouble Ahead, Trouble Behind, and in representations of “exotic” others. [...] Black subjects are used to sell an image - or, more generally, to attract attention. (Willis, 17 - 20)”
This quote comes from Willis’ response to the Photograph of Woman, South African, taken by photographer Barnett in the 1880s.  At the time, women were subjected to pose in various vulnerable positions, situations, environments, etc for the entertainment of white audiences.  They were treated like objects simply due to their physical features.  In this quote, Willis is referencing the wrongdoings against the black community, especially black women.  The women that toured were, at times, treated worse than circus animals; they were sometimes reduced to just a body that could be made fun of or sexualized, and were described by some viewers as exotic, “animal-like”, and deviant.  Today, these ideas/perspectives are starting to become rejected as many move towards inclusivity and diversity.  However, the mistreatment of the black community seems to be recurring despite the social changes.  In the past decade, we have seen instances of cultural appropriation such as the photograph above.  The models’ hair is stylized into dreadlocks at a Marc Jacobs fashion show in 2017.  Why are these models allowed to wear this hairstyle and praised while black women are sometimes discouraged from doing so in the workplace?  Although the show received backlash afterward, how was this allowed in the first place?  It’s interesting to see something that was to be ridiculed nearly two centuries ago become something sought after in the future, but at the expense of those who originated it.  Other high-profile individuals such as the Kardashians are often accused of black fishing.  This juxtaposition has left me wondering: why is it that appearing as a black woman is so attractive to those who aren’t, but then actual black women are often failed by society? In other words, how is it that black women are still such a marginalized group?
