Power struggle debate again in Supreme Court; The Thackeray group filed a petition 'for this'

Mumbai :- The dispute of power struggle in the state has once again reached the court. The Supreme Court had ordered that the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly should decide the disqualification of the MLAs while giving a decision on the power struggle case. But Shivsena's Thackeray faction has once again filed a petition in the court, claiming that there is a delay in taking a decision on the disqualification of MLAs. Thackeray MLA Sunil Prabhu has filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding the disqualification of 16 Shiv Sena MLAs. Steps:

1. Wash rice and keep aside for 30 mins

2. Cut all veggies

3. In a cooker, add oil.

4. Add jeera, hing and mustard seeds

5. After sizzle, add veggies and washed rice.

6. Add all masalas, salt and sugar.

7. Fry for a while.

8. Add boiling water ( for 1 cup of rice add 2 cups water and for 2-3 cups of veggies add 0.5 - 1 cup of water.)

9. Close the cooker lid and wait for 2 whistles

10. Garnish with coriander and coconut and serve hot!

Today is another great day of being Mumbhattan’s one and only Spider-man. It’s also another decent day of being Mumbhattan’s millionth tenth standard student. Even though he’s Spider-man and he could just swing his way to school, Pavitr still meets his friends outside the train station every day. They hang out by the doors, squished together, and ride for a few stops. These are all kids he’s known for years, ever since he moved to Mumbhattan to live with his Maya Auntie. His friend Nikhil, who lives in the same building just one floor down, drapes himself over Pavitr’s back to show them all a cool cricket catch—she catches! And then trips over the boundary but saves it! And then catches it again! They all whoop and applaud appropriately, much to the chagrin of other passengers.

Luckily for the other passengers, they tumble out at the next stop. Pavitr’s school is a short walk from the station and as soon as they leave the station, they’re surrounded by other students. They start splitting up: Nikhil’s a year younger and he finds his classmates, Meera peels off to join some other friends and pretend she’s never talked to a boy in her life, and Pavitr shouts “see you later!” when he spots his classmate Hari.

Hari, who’s instincts rival Pavitr’s spidey sense—or maybe it’s the years of being friends, dodges to the side right as Pavitr tries to throw his arms around him. He laughs as Pavitr stumbles, barely managing to not fall flat on his face in the middle of the road. “Where’s your tie?” he asks when Pavitr recovers.

Pavitr slaps his chest which is where is tie should be—and isn’t. Then his hand goes to his hair because sometimes he ends up using his tie as a hairband—which is a bad habit he really should get out of—and it’s not there either. “Oh shit,” he swears softly and Hari starts to laugh again. Pavitr swings his bag to the front to frantically rifle through it, hoping his tie was just in his bag and not at home or in an alleyway somewhere. “Do we have assembly today?” he asks as he looks.

“Nah, but I can see Mohan sir at the gate.” Hari replies, a little too casual with his delivery of the news of Pavitr’s future demise.

“Damn, damn, damn,” Pavitr chants frantically, searching through his bag with even more fervor. Mohan sir is the worst, their physics teacher, and he loves to check everyone’s uniforms as they walk in. At the absolute best, Pavitr will have to run two laps around the building and then go to class sweaty to get yelled at by his class teacher (and his bench-mate). But if Mohan sir remembers he’s forgotten his tie three times in the last few weeks, he’s truly screwed.

“Just keep your bag in front,” Hari tells him calmly. He looks incredibly calm, hands in his pockets and posture loose. Pavitr knows he’s hoping Mohan sir won’t get annoyed at both of them and check their bags for phones. “And fix your hair.” Hari adds, which is just rude.

“Arre yaar,” Pavitr complains, but he obeys, abandoning his search for his tie to flatten his hair. He’s been pushing his luck for months now because he wants longer hair and Maya Auntie doesn’t care. But Mohan sir cares and thinks he looks like a rowdy and wants him to run laps every day until he cuts his hair, so Pavitr smooths his hair down and hopes someone else will distract sir.

They enter the school grounds, Pavitr rambling about forgetting his Marathi notebook—despite it being two years since he’s had to take Marathi—while Hari nods like he’s speaking sensibly. They’re past the gates, just a few steps away from the entrance to the building, when a tingle passes down his spine. Out the corner of his eye, Pavitr sees Mohan sir turn to focus on him, hawk-like. “Shit,” he whispers and Hari stuffs his fist into his mouth to keep from laughing out loud.

“Pavitr!” Mohan sir exclaims and Pavitr speeds up, leaving Hari behind to collapse with laughter. He speed-walks away, trying to get far away enough that Mohan sir will give up.

“Pavitr, get back here!” Mohan sir yells after him and Pavitr decides to risk it and starts a light jog, weaving through the crowd to get into the building. The receptionist gives him an odd look and, when Mohan sir shouts his name again, starts to stand up.

Well, that won’t do. Pavitr pushes through the crowd and ducks down the kindergarten wing instead of heading up the stairs to his class. A little down the hall is an alcove that has a sink for all the dishes and messes the little kids produce and there’s a shelf that he can hide behind if he can just get in there without anyone seeing…

Behind him, Hari is saying, “Oh, ma’am, my father wanted me to ask—” with a very dramatic emphasis on father, as if anyone needs to be reminded of who Hari’s dad is. Pavitr is adding another favor to his mental tally (Favors You Owe vs Favors He Owes; Pavitr probably owes Hari his first-born at this point) as he ducks into the alcove and comes face to face with someone else.

Not just someone else. It’s the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen in his life. Her eyes are big and dark brown and beautiful and she’s wearing kajal. Her hair is dark and shiny and short, right above her shoulders, half up. She has a nose piercing! And a row of hoops along the edge of an ear! She’s so pretty, even in their uniform, her own shirt untucked and tie loose around her neck in an effortlessly, casually cool way. Pavitr is suddenly incredibly conscious of how sloppy he must look, rushed and hair messy and, oh god his pants leg is stuck in his left sock!

“You hiding too?” she asks, peeking over his shoulder to see if anyone is following. She looks so familiar but she’s not in his class—he would remember—and she must not take Hindi—he would remember—so where does he know her from?

“Zomato,” he blurts instead of answering her question, like a fool. She laughs, and god she’s so pretty.

“Actually, I’m Gayatri,” she says, smiling at him like he’s funny on purpose and not because he just remembered that he knows her from a freaking billboard.

“Pavitr,” he manages. “And yeah, I forgot my tie and Mohan sir already has a case against me.” Gayatri giggles and the single conscious thought Pavitr can manage is that he’s going to do everything possible to hear that again.

And then she’s leaning forward and her hand is on his chest and oh she’s pulling something out of his shirt pocket? He manages to tear his gaze away to look at what she’s pulled out and—oh. It’s his tie. He actually had his tie the whole time. Silently, he takes it from her and pulls it over his head, feeling a little like his cheeks are burning so hot he’s going to catch on fire. Gayatri is still laughing at him, but it’s gentle and she’s so pretty he can’t feel bad.

“He also hates my hair.” He adds, trying to fix his hair without a mirror.

“Mohan sir thinks my earrings are dangerous.” Gayatri tells him, rolling her eyes. Even as she rolls her eyes, she looks cool and classy! Pavitr opens his mouth to respond but. before he can speak, a hand claps down on his shoulder. Slowly, Pavitr spins around to face… their PT teacher.

“Ah, Shubman sir!” Pavitr exclaims nervously. Normally, Shubman sir is nice and doesn’t give Pavitr a hard time for hair but also normally Pavitr isn’t in alcoves with a girl.

“What are you doing over here?” Shubman sir asks, face unreadable.

“Looking for my tie,” Pavitr replies before really thinking through how stupid that sounds. Behind him, Gayatri snorts and then coughs to cover it. Shubman sir’s stern expression cracks a little and Pavitr knows he’s safe.

“Get to class,” he tells Pavitr and Pavitr scampers away, towards the staircase. He can feel Gayatri try to follow after him, but Shubman sir stops her. “I have a form for your dad, come get it.” He tells her. Pavitr feels himself deflate a little. He doesn’t even know what class she’s in!

“Okay sir,” Gayatri says, smiling sweetly. When Shubman sir turns to head to the staff room, she turns to wave at Pavitr. “See you,” she mouths at him, grinning. There’s an explosion of warmth in Pavitr’s chest.

A Bollywood film that portrays the capture and execution of an Indian warrior king by a 17th century Mughal ruler has fuelled street protests and demands from right-wing groups to demolish the emperor’s tomb.

Authorities have now tightened security around the tomb of Aurangzeb Alamgir in the western Indian state of Maharashtra after right-wing groups threatened to raze the monument.

On Monday, violence erupted in Nagpur following rumours of a holy book being desecrated. Police reportedly used tear gas to disperse the mob, and four policemen were injured. Police said they had detained dozens of people after 30 were injured and a similar number of vehicles torched.

“After the release of the film Chhaava, the views of many people on the Mughal emperor have turned extreme, as seen in social media posts,” local authorities said in a statement on 15 March.

Chhaava portrays the life and times of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who was the second ruler of the Indian Maratha empire and the eldest son of the 17th-century Indian warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Shivaji is revered in western India as a Hindu ruler who fought the Mughals and established a Maratha kingdom. “Chhaava” is a Marathi-language word which means lion’s cub.

Right-wing groups such as the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Bajrang Dal threatened to demolish the tomb in Khuldabad town in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district (formally known as Aurangabad) as they claim it is a reminder of “centuries of oppression, atrocities, and slavery” of Hindus during the Muslim emperor’s rule.

The groups threatened a “Babri-like” repeat if the tomb is not razed, referring to the demolition of the Babri Masjid (mosque) in Ayodhya in 1992 which sparked nationwide religious riots, killing more than 3,000 people in a decades-long dispute that fuelled Hindu-Muslim tensions in the country.

The groups, according to the news outlet India Today, pledged “karseva” if the government does not act on their demands. “Karseva” is a Sanskrit word which means voluntarily offering services for religious causes. In 1992, several religious volunteers called “karsevaks” were responsible for demolishing the Babri mosque.

The right-wing groups had earlier announced a statewide protest on Monday to demand the removal of the tomb, following which police deployed additional forces around the tomb and restricted entry to prevent any unrest.

Chhaava, directed by Laxman Utekar, was released in February, and was successful at the box office. It portrayed the captivity, torture and execution of Shivaji's son. But many called the film out for its “clumsy grip on history” and leaving “no room for complexity”.

“Chhaava does have the laudable goal of setting the historical record straight about Sambhaji as a great warrior and administrator against biased accounts. But it becomes harmful national-level propaganda when it is fixated on the good Hindu versus the bad Muslim binary, skips some incontrovertible facts, and is in complete sync with the ruling party’s ideology,” wrote Nissim Mannathukkaren, chair of Dalhousie University's department of international development studies, in The Hindu.

It also sparked extreme reactions among audiences. A fan in Nagpur rode a horse to the theatre to imitate the Hindu king, while in Gujarat, a man vandalised a cinema screen in anger over a scene depicting the torture of Sambhaji.

Last week, after two Indian politicians – Nitesh Rane and Navneet Rana – called for the tomb’s removal, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis backed the proposal but stressed that any action must follow legal procedures, as the historical site is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Aurangzeb, the sixth Mughal emperor, ruled from 1658 until his death in 1707 and was engaged in a prolonged war with the Marathas in present-day Maharashtra.

During a press meet, Kishor Chavan, a coordinator for the VHP in western Maharashtra, said: “Aurangzeb’s cruelty is well-documented – he imprisoned his own father, executed his brothers, and ordered the destruction of Hindu temples. The existence of his tomb only serves to glorify his atrocities, and the Maharashtra government must act immediately to remove it. If government fails to remove it, we will do it by holding ‘karseva’, like we observed during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.”

The Ram Janmabhoomi movement was a Hindu nationalist campaign pushing for the construction of a temple (dedicated to the Hindu deity Ram) at the site of the mosque in Ayodhya, leading to the demolition of the Babri mosque and the eventual building of the Ram temple that Hindu nationalist prime minister Narendra Modi inaugurated in January 2024.

The tensions in Maharashtra over Aurangzeb’s tomb come amid controversy over the state Samajwadi Party legislator Abu Azmi’s remarks about the Mughal emperor, which led to his suspension from the state assembly until 26 March and multiple police complaints against him.

“Wrong things are being said about Aurangzeb. He constructed a lot of temples for Hindus. He even got one of his soldiers trampled by elephants when he wanted to marry a Hindu priest’s daughter. As a mark of their gratitude, they constructed a mosque for Muslims. History has been distorted,” Mr Azmi remarked earlier this month.

It led to Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde demanding an apology from Mr Azmi and saying that he should be tried for treason.

Opposition Congress MP Kalyan Kale accused political groups of deliberately stoking controversy over Aurangzeb’s tomb to polarise voters ahead of the legislative council by-elections. He called it a strategic move to raise communal issues for electoral gain.

“The tomb has been there for years. Many are seeing it now only because elections are around.”

“If they want to remove the grave of the Aurangzeb, then what about various structures built by the Mughals across India?” Imtiaz Jaleel, a former member of parliament, was quoted as saying by The Hindustan Times.

Controversies surrounding Aurangzeb aren’t exactly new – prime minister Narendra Modi has referenced the long-dead Mughal emperor in his speeches in the past. “Aurangzeb severed many heads, but he could not shake our faith,” Mr Modi had said in 2022 during an event at the Mughal-era Red Fort in the capital Delhi.

In May 2022, the ASI temporarily barred public visits to the site following threats of vandalism from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), a regional party. The MNS had called for the tomb’s destruction, leading to increased security measures and a five-day closure.

In 2023, another AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi’s visit to Aurangzeb’s tomb sparked a political controversy, and was also met with increased security at the site.

On Tuesday, Maharashtra’s chief minister Devendra Fadnavis held Chhaava responsible for the violence in Nagpur. “This violent incident and riots seem to be pre-planned,” he said during a speech in the legislative assembly. “Chhaava has ignited people’s anger against Aurangzeb.” He added that “everyone must keep Maharashtra peaceful”.

Aaji - My inspiration

The loss of someone close in your life is always painful. Today, I am not going to be talking about death but about the life of someone close to me and also about Breast Cancer , Aaji’s experience and all that I learnt through this process . My nani (Aaji in Marathi). She passed away on the 5th of April, 2024. My nani had breast cancer. It was detected in 2017. It was detected late and could not be treated with a strong dose of Chemo and also could not go through surgery at that time. I was in the 7th grade at that time. And we all were really sad. And at that time, I associated cancer with death and thought that it can never be cured (though it is true, but out of every 100 patients with cancer, there is always 1 who gets cured). She passed away a day before her 89th Birthday. That is right her birthday was on the 6th of April. I was sad that she passed away when she was so close to 90. But soon, I realized that there was a long time back when the doctor had told us that maybe a few months. But she lived for 3 years after that despite everything she went through. She did not leave hope even a day before her death. And that is a big accomplishment, given the circumstances.

But this is not what I want to remember her as. I want to remember her as my friend who saved me from mama’s scolding many times and who helped me with every little problem I had. Who read all the Harry Potter books, and we discussed them for a very long time. I will always remember how we used to make Modak every Ganesh Chaturthi and how despite not remembering many things she was the only person to remember the Ganesh Aarti. I till date remember her stories where she would add my name as the princess who was saved from the monster, what was special about the stories, was that she modified the stories to teach us some morals- it was not your basic princess taken hostage by a monster and is saved by the prince, she always made sure that we learnt something from her. There is a lot I learnt from her but the most important one is that if you put up your mind to it, then you can learn new things, no matter what your age is or the person you are learning from. The main thing is that you put your mind to it and take criticism positively. That is one important lesson that she has taught me, personally.

And I hope to do justice to everything she thought of me and what all she wanted me to be (career and personality wise). Every time I think of Aaji, I remember that she wanted to see me in a graduation hat and gown, and I will make sure that whatever happens I will do anything and everything to make that happen.

good morning!!

left late at around 8:15 or 20. got a 333.

hoping i won't be late. i was never on time for a single day last week. and i have gotten used to that laziness.

wore my dark navy blue shirt. trying to avoid darks these days. it's almost summer again.

i wish to wear my charcoal black denim shirt, but i don't have a matching trouser. mother threw away my blue jeans. ah, why not though? it had been more than six years.

got a 312 at 8:50ish. there are just too many people waiting for the bus at this time. never do i get to sit at the place i wish to. 8:20 bus is better.

lol, going to be late. dropped a message on slack.

and god? well, ty for showing me her name in big blocks written in marathi. i wasn't even paying attention. just what are your ways? i don't think i can ever understand you <3

reached office. and the first thing i saw was the leaves of my plants drooping. i wasn't expecting this. what do i do next? the soil was wet. someone had recently watered it. not even two hours seem to have passed.

coworker asked if i had named my plant. i replied yes - "lior" meaning my light. he joked that my plant never got the ray of light instead. painful, but good joke.

i kinda sensed it on friday that the plant was struggling in this closed environment. just sad. this little plant was my first step towards self-improvement these days. idk, i am just sad but i cannot afford to frown and droop as well.

a lady from the company beside came up to me and asked me to thank her. well, she had watered my plant in the morning. i told her that it's because that i proly overwatered it, the reason for my little plant's death. "so you are the one who killed it right?" yea, me.

amidst all this, i saw her walking, through the glass, once. and then once again, and then once again. it's very bad that the light reflects on the glass.

i got a coffee, but was called for a meeting right away. the coffee went cold when i returned back. i took another cup whilst returning, and it was filled to the edge, meh. all because i took two fills because one didn't seem enough.

i was working, and then saw her randomly walk out from the rear door. again? yo! idk from when she has started to use the rear door sm. it's kinda good ofc haha. she wore black today. i wouldn't have even known if she had walked away, if i had not randomly looked up. the new tiny cabin has made things difficult. doesn't take away her prettiness :)

when i was going outside, i did see her walk, towards the coffee machine. also saw her sitting on the couch while returning.

lunch time. didn't see her up for lunch again today. i couldn't finish my tiffin. and yea tiffin, lol it's greenish yellow or smth. haha, i hope she doesnt think that i am trying to copy her. it's pure chance. my mother bought it.

post-lunch.

i went to the washroom, and saw her sitting on the couch. she's so cool! i wanted to go back to the dispenser, and even my water bottle was empty. but i restrained this time, can't have the friday incident repeat itself again. maybe, just not today. maybe, from tomorrow? idk. i'll see. can't harm her or make her uncomfortable because of my stupidity.

placed my plant at the window near the water dispenser. unsure what happens next. i hope something positive happens.

have been looping mohe rang do laal. it randomly popped in my head yesterday. i am obsessed to it now. never thought i'd ever loop it. simply obsessed. the last i was this obsessed to was plastic trees's zetsubounooka.

project was a "mess". so we went in to boss's cabin to discuss something. while going in, i saw her. perhaps, was the last in the day. she was still sitting at the same place.

well, boss was mad. design wasn't supposed to be touched upon. i was made to sit in the cabin for the whole time, because i was assigned a new task. it's very uncomfortable to sit in the cabin - i don't like closed spaces.

returned to my desk at 8?

saw my plant. it's up again!!! maybe i'll keep it near the window for sometime . please bloom and grow :)

left at 8:30. got a 181, and then a 333. home by 9:45.

animal planet, nat geo wild are the only interesting channels sometime. everything else just feels stupid. maybe a lifestyle channel like some travel or food channel is sometimes watchable.
