was it just for fun but why is zekira a demon/not a human unlike most of the other chatacters?
is she something else, is she extra dangerous because of this, etc?
Honestly I originally designed her way way back in highschool as some one off teifling pirate bc I thought it would look cool
But!! Lore has changed!! She's not a demon but moreso an off shoot of humans. I don't wanna get too complicated with the species biology bc I know I will overcomplicate it, but she's like to humans what rhinos are to horses if that makes sense. Her species are obligate carnivores, typically have horns, tails, and bright skin colors. They also have some damn good night vision. But they are also less resistant to foods humans are (like how grapes are toxic to dogs for example) as well as not being as physically strong or tall as humans
I wouldn't say she's more dangerous than my other characters bc of her race, just that she has different pros and cons due to her biology
#fun fact she has a rare genetic contidion that made her not grow a tail!!#like a manx cat#i wanna add more characters like her in eventually#rn the only other one i have is her dad#zekira#oc stuff#monnie answers

actually since im already on my cat breeds soapbox i really dislike most cat breeds. i think they are pointless and we should let them fade out of existence. so many of them are just "we bred an extreme trait into this animal" and so many of them have such awful health issues it should be illegal to purposely breed one
#munchkins. cats with folded or curled ears. squished face breeds. so many that are more prone to cancer or neurological issues than others#it makes me so sad because people will compare it to dog breeds but dog breeds have purposes. jobs. history#cat breeds are like. someone in wyoming had a cat born with a genetic disability and decided to breed more of them#until cat breeds start having a purpose besides 'i want a cat that looks cool' i will always hate purebred cats#simon says#edit: holy shit i forgot my least favorite MANX CATS AND OTHER BOBBED TAIL CATS#their poor poor spines its awful. please stop making them

Hi, this thread looked very light on images, so there's something about Persian kitties specifically!
They are pretty much the pugs of the cat world
Except they have 2 (or maybe more, because from what I remember, the Persian kitties I met weren't as flat) degrees of how squished their faces are
Basically, Doll Faced means they have a bit of nose (middle row of skulls in both). But peke face Persians (the ones on the right) have eyes, nose and the entire face at the same level
As a result of the squish, they have difficulty breathing and grooming themselves, also they are prone to eye gunk, and generally gunk getting stuck in the folds on their faces. And the inability to groom themselves plus being oh so fluffy means they can get badly matted - which is very bad and dangerous for cats, because their skin is very thin and sensitive! A presence of matts would mean constant pulling, and an inexperienced person trying to take out cat matts can further damage the skin.
All in all, Persians are sadly very unhealthy kitties who need quite some help with their day to day life (grooming, cleaning the faces), who are frankly BAD at breathing and get matted easily. Lack of care and making them inside+outside cats would put them in serious danger!
i really wish unethical cat breeds were taken seriously by animal lovers as unethical dog breeds. we rightfully condemn what they've done to pugs, but persians, munchkins, and lykoi cats still get posted everywhere like they're normal breeds. its so heartbreaking
#reblog#long post#animal welfare#also munchkin cats have spine problems and can't cat properly because of their short legs (instincts are there but the capabilities are not)#and please remember that Scottish Fold has a genetic degenerative disorder of cartilage that manifests not only in the ears#(and breeders shouldn't even pair two Scottish Folds just Fold+Straight. as the Scottish Straight don't have the Bye Cartilage Active Gene)#also with spine problems: some Manx kitties that are born without more spine vertebrae than just the tail#...anyways Kitties Make Me Overprotective Over Them sorry!!

Erm hey I have an interest in and a basic understanding of cat genetics, so, I did the thresher fam + Tusk 👍👍
I had to make some changes, I make Ray genetically black but he still looks ginger, so he’s carneliannn. I don’t know how a cat with an ec got onto a middle of nowhere island and I’m not gonna think about it. Peace and love on planet Earth.
To make Sturgeon, Hake, and Urchin possible (cats who are genetically black and tabbys look brown (GENERALLY), it’s why they got the black stripes.) I made them smokes with ghost marks, very pretty kitties, they’re fundamentally the same.
Biggest change I’d say is I had to make Minke have a manx tail, so Trout can get her tail. Shes also a smoke, I figured it would be less noticeable on her than Thresher. Sorry Minkeeeee
I made Sturgeon, Hake, and Urchin ticked tabbies 👍 solid is epistatic to tabby patterns, so Thresher and Minke could have ANYTHING hiding under there, they can be ticked‼️

Sorry if this sounds like I’m trying to “correct” your characters, I HATE it when people do that, this is just for funsies yay
Wee cat genetics! While they are not an interest of mine, i still enjoy seeing folk try to make sense of fantasy genetics. The chart is very cool to look at, thank you!
say goodbye to your tail minke..
(chart linked in op)

I find my cat genetically fascinating, so i thought maybe all the other cat nerds would to
this is Trouble, she’s a barn cat kitten we got off the side of the highway. note her stubby tail! we weren’t sure if it was genetic or an accident until she accidentally had a litter before we could get her fixed. 5 of them had normal tail and 2 had stubbies! aint genetics neat.
here’s one of her stubby sons as a little worm, and her normal tailed daughter Clawdette as a grown young lady :)
Oh what an interesting kitty! It's neat to see random mutations like this, a lot of cat breeds start with random mutations that people thought were cool
I hope her short tail doesn't give her skeletal problems; it looks like the Manx gene which is known to be associated with that.
In any case, she's a very lovely cat and I bet she lives up to her name <3

aside from the general unique look of the clans, are there any weird clan only genetic mutations that have popped up? Like how the ojo azuls had the blue eyes?
And another question, I could be making this up but I think I remember you saying that riverclan cats can have rosette markings? Does this mean that at some point some kittypet bengal genes got mixed into there gene pool? Could a charcoal colour riverclan cat pop up at some point?
I just love the clan genetics so much
Not that Lynx or I can think of! I will say that polydactyl cats aren't too rare in ShadowClan (Blackstar and his relatives all have at least one extra toe, as an example), and the Manx gene is resisted heavily by Clan blood. Overall, though, special traits tend to die out in Clans if they're dominant and only pop up here and there if recessive. That Bengal blood will die out in RiverClan, most likely, while sepias/minks/points show up here and there down several generations. Other than that, their uniqueness is in their shape and body-build, rather than their colors.

To add to this. If a short tailed cat is what you're after. As op mentioned, some may seek such a trait and not find a stray like the asker did.
As far as I'm aware, Japanese bobtail and Kurilian bobtail are caused by separate genes to Manx.
@felinefractious I haven't heard of issues with these breeds linked to their shorter tails. I know Manx does. Have you heard anything?
Hi! My cat is DEFINITELY not a purebred manx. He just has no tail from random variation as far as I can tell. He currently doesn’t have any issues with pooping or movement or anything, but we know he was born tailless because he was found with another cat with the same lack of tail and same age. Anyway, he was found in the woods, and we got him from a foster system. Is it appropriate to call him manx? On forms and stuff, we usually put manx if there’s only one option, but then we put domestic shorthair as the first and manx as the second if there’s two options. We’re just trying to communicate the lack of tail. I just don’t want to be doing bad practices. I know that it isn’t helpful to call your cat a maine coon just because it’s big with long fur. It just feels like the tail thing is significant because of the health stuff that may arise.
Idk. I’m not trying to justify it, I’m just trying to state my reasoning, so I don’t sound silly. Please feel free to correct me.
Also, is it even possible to breed manx ethically? I feel like no because due to the nature of the short tail sometimes the spine is too short for them to be able to function properly. And sorry to pack so much into the ask, but do you know the likelihood of something to impact him later in life if he’s 4 and still has no problems? I keep trying to look it up, and all I find is issues tailless cats have from birth.
I’ve answered a similar ask sometime ago, which you can read here.
Essentially this is a rare circumstance where I consider misrepresentation to be acceptable so long as it’s due to an understanding of the inherent issues with Manx cats and the desire to both communicate this to your cat’s veterinary team and use it as an opportunity to educate.
If someone says “Your cat is awesome, I’ve always wanted a Manx!” you’re in the position to say “No, you don’t. I got very lucky but the gene responsible for their lack of tail frequently causes issues with lameness and incontinence.”
Symptoms of Manx syndrome are typically detected from an early age so if you haven’t seen any adverse effects by now it isn’t likely he’ll spontaneously develop them. However as he gets older monitor for issues like constipation and arthritis/pain, which commonly occur in senior cats to begin with but your cat may be more predisposed to based on the abnormal anatomy.
As for whether it’s possible to ethically breed Manx cats…
Unfortunately not.
Tailless cats are at the greatest risk of showing symptoms of manx syndrome but it can occur in Manx with longer tail types as well. The gene is not predictable and you can have 2 stumpy cats with mild symptoms produce a tailless/rumpy cat severely effected.

Buttermander's Craft Sibling Headcanon Masterpost
Goob and Scraps are two of my fav toons and now I'm going to unleash my headcanons so everyone can use them.
Goob's fur will stand on end if you startle or or scare him. It looks ridiculous to behold
When she was first made Scraps had a habit of investigating random inanimate objects around Gardenview by clawing them
If presented with cardboard boxes the craft siblings will attempt to fit themselves into them due to instincts they claim they cannot control.
Scraps enjoys all sorts of arts and crafts projects in her spare time, although having claws means she has to be extremely careful to not tear things up on accident.
Given that goob's hands seem too heavy for him and his arms are literal cables, it is likely Deliliah Keen had to get specially made artifical arms for the craft
Goob originally spent several weeks with no arms after he was made until he was considered healthy enough to get the custom set attached to his body.
Adding onto the previous Headcanon Shelly gave Goob the nickname " G. Rex " during this time.
Goob and Scraps cannot resist the call of the ALMIGHTY RED DOT ( a laser pointer )
Both of the craft siblings are capable of purring when happy and it's adorable.
Scraps has to ensure her brother doesn't ingest too much caffeine in one sitting or else he will go nuts and his arms will get caught in everything in his warpath.
Trace amounts of DNA of actual house cats were used in the creation process of the siblings. Goob lacks a tail due to the Manx breed being his genetic source. Scraps meanwhile, has the genetic material component of a Domestic Shorthair. Only around 15 percent cat DNA makes up the crafts.
Without regular maintenance the craft siblings' claws can become " deadly weapons "
Goob and Pebble actually get along pretty well since the rock dog knows he can get a lot of attention from the younger of the two siblings
Goob used to have biting related issues that got worked out with time
Shrimpo can only really mess with Goob when Scraps is occupied because if he tries it she WILL claw his face.
Goob's fur has historically been a nightmare to maintain. Its required weekly brushing and he constantly ends up getting crumbs caught on his own fluff, especially in the large tuft around his neck.
Scraps' tail will wag around at hyper speed if she's really excited about something, the paper cup will make a lot of noise if she's standing near something by while doing this.
The siblings really enjoy the taste of fish, when Gardenview was still open sometimes they were caught raiding the freezer for an entire box of fish sticks.
Scraps has an entire hidden stash of yarn balls in the siblings' shared room, even if you manage to clear out her side of the room it's going to be covered in yarn again in a matter of minutes.
If you want more headcanons tell me what toon I should do next in the replies, I got some fun ones lying around. I just started with these two because they're my favorites. Also let me know which of my headcanons are your favorites I wanna know which ones the public likes the most.

Is it me, or do domestic shorthair have a more defined "type" to them.
Technically, I know they are not a breed or even a mix and actually "randombred" is a better term. Also they can have unpredictable genetics due to unknown family history.
But, I seem to see they look very similar. Never really gaining a weird mutation very often to make them distinct, like fold ears or brachycephaly. With the exception of some land race breeds of course like Manx. Almost everyone I see looks the same, with only tiny variation. Unlike say, randonbred rabbits.
Wasn't the British shorthair more like domestics back in the day? Before persian genes made them more cobby and mildly brachycephalic. Also the American shorthair used to be too (but not persian influenced).
I know European shorthairs and Arabian maus were domestics before following a fixed trait breeding program and becoming breeds.
So yeah, I don't really know how random the traits are in specific areas. Colours yes, coats length too. But certainly not head or body type. I would expect a lot more. Unless those traits are rare outside breeds???
It's not just me that's noticed this, is it?
Honestly i think my cat genetics knowledge becomes regrettably lacking after colors and patterns.
But what i think is going on is that randombred cats are on fully continous scale, so the differences pale out. It's not like there's only a type A and a type B - every possible variation between them exists too.
For example i'd say our previous and our current cats got rather different profiles, look:
Neither is an extreme type, but Trapiti had a noticably longer muzzle and less concave profile. But also yeah, i could see this called 'pretty uniform', i'm probably just used to cats and their more subtle differences in built lol.

Learning new cat colour genetics. Mocha, Amber, Copper, and Russet.
Basically, I learnt most of the genetics of cats and some rodents from a book called the Colour Inheritance in Small Livestock by Roy Robinson. Printed 2013.
But new genes have since been discovered. This us part 2
Mocha- Bangkok cats
What is it- more pink than mocha. A brown colour
Genetics- new c gene, (cm), recessive/codominant with other sepia
Notes- codominant with burmese and Siamese Bur-mocha is cbcm, Sia-mocha is cscm
Amber- Norwegian forest cats
What is it- normal cats matures into orange like cat if agouti. Non agouti is silver tabby looking but has black nose and paw pads instead of pink/red nose
Genetics- extension gene (e), recessive
Notes-
first time e gene in cats
Only effects black and blue based cats and their patterns. They are genetically this.
Effects fur only and not skin.
Copper/flaxen/akita- British shorthairs
What is it- chinchilla (ticked) or shell (shaded) colour pushed so far on hair looks gold and white. Has black paw pads and tail tip.
Genetics- dominant Inhibitor gene (silver) + Wide Band + Ticked Tabby (on self makes shaded) and recessive copper gene (cop).
Notes-
British wide band gene,
corin based
New golden gene
Males can become temporarily silver while breeding stud.
Russet- burmese
What is it- starts off tabby and turns to red with little dark. Born with pink paws and pale tail tip unlike real tabby.
Genetics- extension gene (er), recessive
Facts-
Similar to Amber gene
Kittens are larger than normal
Bonus of dominance of hair, ear, tail, limb and eye types.
Hair-
Cat longhair (l) gene recessive
Sphynx gene (hr) recessive
Donskoy (Hrbd) dominant
Lykoi is recessive
Devon rex (re) is recessive
Cornish rex (r) is recessive
Selkirk rex (Se) is dominant
Laperm (Lp) is dominant
Wirehaired (Wh) is dominant
Ears-
Fold ear (Fd) is dominant. usually single.double gene is more severe pain.
Curled ear (Cu) is dominant.
Tail-
Manx is dominant. (All are Mm). As MM is fatal. Lethal gene.
Bobtail (japanese) (jb) Is recessive.
Curled tail- two genes in one. Over Back gene is co-dominant. Curl is recessive.
Limbs-
Munchkin (Mk) is dominant
Polydactyl (Pd) is dominant
Eyes-
Ojos azules (Oj) is dominant.

This is a blog to highlight cats available for adoption that are declawed, disabled, geriatric or purebred. These are the only requirements for a cat to be featured here.
As stated in the blog description I am not affiliated with any of the organizations whose adoptable cats are featured here. The information presented in the posts is publicly available, I am only drawing attention to it.
I encourage you to always do your research before you adopt or purchase a pet. Just as there are bad breeders there are bad rescues and shelters.
Post will follow the following format.
Cat Name [Original Post]
Age | Sex | Breed*
Other Information
Location [Rescue]**
Date of Post
* Breed will be listed based on apparent breed and not listed breed, as rescue and shelters often mislabel cats under the assumption that their breeds function similarly to dogs. Unless I have reason to believe it is a genuine breed or breed mix I will label them as Domestic Shorthair or Domestic Longhair.
I may occasionally share retired breeding cats.
** The majority of adoptable cats will be from Canada and the United States as these are the countries where Petfinder is available.
I will consider cats to be seniors and eligible for sharing here when estimated at 10+ years.
Here is an incomplete list of qualifying disabilities: Allergies, Amputation, Blindness, Cerebellar Hypoplasia, Chronic Kidney Disease, Enucleation, Deafness, Diabetes, FeLV/FIV+, Hyperthyroidism, Manx Syndrome, Neoplasia, Scottish Fold Osteochondrodysplasia, Seizure Disorder.
I consider declawed cats to be disabled due to having multiple amputations which often result in chronic pain, inappropriate elimination and increased quickness to bite.
You are welcome to submit cats you would like to see featured, but please include a link to their original adoption listing.
You are welcome to make requests to see more cats from a particular area, of a specific breed or color, with a particular health condition, and so forth. I cannot guarantee these requests will be met.
Due to the time sensitive nature of these posts this blog will rarely use a queue and will instead posts in spurts.
You may make requests to see more of a particular breed, location, or health condition. These will be answered in the body of the ask instead of as seperate posts in order to avoid clutter.

Can I ask what the difference is between tortoiseshell patterning and tortoiseshell tabby patterning? And where does calico fit in with regards to the tortie coat - is it just that there's a much higher level of white in the coat?
The Manx on the left is black, the Norwegian Forest Cat on the right is a black tabby.
The Exotic Shorthair on the left is a tortoiseshell, the Siberian on the right is a tortoiseshell tabby (with white).
The difference between a tortoiseshell and a tortoiseshell tabby is the same as the difference between a black cat and a black (“brown”) tabby in that the agouti/tabby gene is present.
Tabby is the original, natural appearance inherited from their wild ancestors and solid/self is a mutation which increases eumelanin production.
So the stripe color in a tabby is the “true” base color and when the dominant tabby gene is absent more of this pigment is produced, obscuring the pattern and creating a solid sheet of color.
So on a tortoiseshell tabby the non-red patches will display as tabby and in a tortoiseshell non-tabby they’ll display as solid.
As for where calico fits into all this…
It’s just a colloquial term used for tortoiseshell’s or tortoiseshell tabby’s with a notable amount of white.
The term isn’t widely used in most registries.
There’s a very informative post by @amber-tortoiseshell discussing the effect of white spotting on tortoiseshell patterning which you can read here and an illustration of it here.
You might also get a better explanation on the genetics side of it from them! I was a little distracted when writing this post because my cat was ping-ponging off the wall.

Genetics Basics
I hate myself.
*jumps down the rabbithole*
Because I´m no genetics expert, just a writer with an obsession of learning new things and applying them to my favorite fandoms, please see @littlehungrywarriorcats Series on Cat Genetics for Writers and Artists for an in depth explanation. Just a few things are being said and then I´ll put the whole Tigerkin desaster under a cut so you don´t have to scroll forever.
Because I have limited knowledge of physical disabilities, I´ll be avoiding breeds/traits that are linked to genetic disabilities in cats. So no manx, no folded ears and so on. The only disability I can´t avoid is deafness in White Dominant cats with blue eyes, because saying that all of the white cats are either albino or dodged the bullet feels ignorant. There will be ONE cat who gets to be white, blue eyed and hearing in this entire story, and it´s Cloudtail. Luck of the draw, buddy.
I will rant about shit that makes no sense, like where the hell did golden tabby Mothwing come from.
I´m working from the most iconic canon designs backwards, as well as designs I´ve already comitted to. So when Tigerclaw is a black classic tabby and Mist is a silver mackerel tabby, then one of their parents gets hit with the Inhibitor gene and we´ll either have smoke Pinestar or silver tabby Leopardfoot.
Here´s a list of the genes I´m working with, and I´m using the word genes because writing allele all the time breaks my dyslexic brain.
Base Colors: B - black b - Chocolate bl - Cinnamon
Ginger: O - Ginger o - no Ginger
Dilute: D - no dilution d - dilution
Tabby: A - Agouti a - non Agouti (no tabby, no matter the modifiers) Mc - Mackerel mc - Classic Ta - Ticked ta - not ticked (Ta overwrites anything on Mc, so no matter what, if a cat has one Ta it´s ticked, and if it´s Ta/ta it´s ticked but with leftover stripes on the face, the legs and the tail. No matter what, if a cat is a/a it´s a solid.)
Inhibitor: I - Inhibitor, making a "silver" or a "smoke" i - no Inhibitor (If a tabby is I/i, the silver can look "tarnished")
Widebanding: Wd - Widebanding, "golden tabby" wd - no widebanding (This is not entirely accurate, but simplified for fictional purposes. Also, I´ll keep inhibitor and widebanding from interacting on the same cat.)
Extension: E - normal cat e - amber (There´s two more Extension phenotypes but I´m only using amber so they´re not in here.)
Albino: C - full color cats c - complete albino (white + blue eyes, NOT DEAF) cs - siamese (The PATTERN, not the BREED)
Fur lengh: L - shorthair l - longhair
White Spotting + Wide dominant Wd - White dominant (This is the "white + blue eyes = deaf" gene) S - white spotting w - no white spotting (w/w is no white on the cat, S/w is a little white up to tuxedo, and S/S is a lot of white)
