I think that beating my head into the wall would be so much easier than having to write a cover letter that explains my book manuscript to publishers

Book update~
I started pulling together a pinboard for my original manuscript's agent guide (a visual document meant to be a high-level pitch for my book) because I was soooo intimidated that I wouldn't know what visual direction to take it in
Anyway needless to say that fear has been quashed LOOK AT THIS
Tumblr media
By the way, the one sentence summary of my book is:
"The daughter of a recently deceased alcoholic must partner with Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, on a quest across modern Greece to save Mount Olympus."
I started querying with agents this week. If (when! gotta be positive!) I get an agent, then that agent will try to sell my manuscript to a publisher.
Anyway thank you to those of you who have cheered me on so far this is soooo far out of my comfort zone but I'm really excited about it!!

Your writing style? I’m eating it up, and utterly devouring it. I discovered your writing through your gravity falls fics and I cannot stop reading them. They’re like catnip, I swear. After being moved and inspired by the stangst poem you posted, I figured I would finally come thank you for writing this amazing content, but also for sharing your words. They’re really special, and I look forward to reading more when you are ready and able to share them.
you are so kind omg ;-;;;;
i'm a little amazed people like the poem, but very much happy about it. like most poets my shit gets rejected like 100 times before being accepted anywhere lmfao. something really nice about being able to just throw it up and have people enjoy it right off the bat. it means a lot to me.
it's awesome for me to have this space to try things out and grow as a writer, and y'all blow me away every single day with all the love you have to give. so truly, thank y'all for partaking in this lovely space; i look forward to logging on every day in a way i never have with social media before :)

🥨🍭🌮
🥨How do you overcome writer's block?
i dont.
serious answer: i usually have multiple projects going at once (multiple fics, scripts, poetry) so i switch between them. if i get stumped with writing all together, i go back to making art. i get stuck with art, back to writing
if i get blocked with both? no clue what i would do then
🍭What's been your most challenging story to write, and why?
absolutely utterly despise and then there were three
uhh... poets fic because coming up with poems from a fictional character's perspective is hard. and im stuck on how to go about the portrait of a girl scene in the bapo fic once i get over that then the rest should come easy
🌮How do you balance the desire to write for yourself versus the desire to write for an audience?
i write mostly for myself. its nice to know that i have a handful of people who like my writing. i dont have a particulary large audience. my audience is my mutuals
i dont want a huge audience, it's just nice to see that people enjoy the stuff i write
it gets harder when trying to submit things to literary magazines. it's all purely subjective but rejection letters aren't always fun. like- i once got a rejection letter that was quite short that went
Tumblr media
the submission window hadn't even closed. "these poems were great but we dont want them"

A "Terminal Note" by the author of Maurice, E.M Forster, written in 1960 decades after the original manuscript was completed (1914) but a decade before the book would finally be published posthumously in 1971. The movie is an almost perfect adaptation of the book. If you like gay period pieces with happy endings and a side of class commentary, it's a must watch.
Tumblr media
#i got so obsessed with maurice that i got my college to send me an inter library loan from another school of a rare out of print edition#that compiled all the textual differences of each manuscript#maurice#all the sentiment em forster conveys still hits in 2024 if you are gay. but even if you arent gay#its wish fulfillment its a rejection of society its the pain of growing up wrong in peoples eyes and not knowing who you can trust#its the homoerotic best friendship that falls apart brutally#its needing a friend to last your whole life and you theirs#the 1987 date the movie came out is also like. insane to me#what other media was celebrating the potential happy ending being gay could bring during the aids crisis?#and just a year later margaret thatcher's section 28 to pass preventing 'local authorities' from endorsing or promoting homosexuality#that wouldnt have affected the release of this movie since it was independently funded; but the cultural climate was extremely harsh#honestly only saying the movie is almost perfect bc its subjective but it basically is perfectly the novel beat by beat#the stuff that they didnt keep from the book got in as deleted scenes#screenshot from archive.orgs copy of the book which has its own annotations haha#if you dont watch the movie read the book!!!!!!!!#anyway its criminal how overlooked this movie is compared to other gay films#how do people NOT know about it.....*explodes*#the soundtrack is also beautiful and i listen to it a lot to get work done#i cant help but yap about my fav things....#my apologies for the reductive sentence at the end of my post but its just there to catch peoples attention!!!!#i know its *more* than a gay movie with a happy ending but ppl dont even know the bare minimum about it..
