And then they try to move on but there's lots of misunderstandings, and jealousy, and mutual pining, and dramatic declarations of love, and every romcom cliché ever? And dating other people is futile?

And one thinks that he can't have the other the way he truly wants?

And the other one tries to accept that this is what always happens, that everytime he meets someone he thinks this time is going to be different until it's not? But this time he has so many feelings he just wants to TRY? Because the red string brought them together?

And they ultimately decide that there's no point in thinking things can go bad, they can just be together?

TIIIIIIIIIIIM I hope this is what you are doing!!! I can even forgive Buck and Tommy dating other people if it's to show how they can't stop loving the other.

Let's just hope their story is a romcom after all and not a fucking tragedy.

The mid-season finale is close and thus, I have a feeling we're going to see Ravi Panikkar soon.

I'm still a firm believer that we'll see him 8b, but my gut is telling me that the mid-season finale is going to have him. I can just see a clear image of him at the emergency calls in the mid-season finale.

I can't really explain why, but those are the thoughts I'm getting.

I'm not even allowing myself to think he'll never come back, no. He's coming back, at the latest, in 8b. I'm manifesting it.

Ok now that I've had time to process the first episode and read some post-episode 1 articles, I have some theories about where the storyline is going for each character in season 8a.

Athena

I have a strong feeling that we're going to have a lot of Athena focus this season. I think it's going to contrast the heavy Bobby focus we got last season. I feel like this trial is going to not be just for the 3-parter premier but instead for the entire part of season 8a. We also have the great B plot of Bathena house hunting and seeing in this first episode how they have different tastes, I have a feeling we'll have some lighthearted moments for Bathena this whole season.

Bobby

Bobby is totally going to return as Gerrard might have kicked the bucket or gotten permanently injured. But I also have a feeling we will be seeing more of the "hotshots" actors appearing at Bathena's doorstep because Bobby can't help but adopt strays. I feel like Bobby is also going to feel some guilt about the whole fiasco that happened last season such as leaving the firehouse and also dealing with his house burning down as I feel like those things have still not been emotionally resolved. Overall though hoping that Bobby has a more lighthearted season.

Chim (and Maddie)

I know that everyone is manifesting that Chim and Maddie are going to decide to have another child but I have a feeling that Chim and Maddie might be forced to adopt Mara as I feel like something wonky is going to happen with Henren's trial. However I have a feeling they are not going to be a main focus until season 8b.

Hen (and Karen)

Basically the same thing I said for Chim and Maddie and that this who Mara and Councilwoman Ortiz. I also feel like that storyline will also transfer over into season 8b.

Buck (and Tommy)

Buck and Tommy is where I feel like we'll see the main plot come in for season 8a. From interviews Oliver has stated that Tommy and Buck are in the honeymoon of their new found relationship. But Oliver has stated that there are some uncomfortable truths they're going to have to face. I think from what he said it could be one of three things (realistically). 1. Tommy's racist past, as Chim is Buck's brother-in-law and Buck is going to maybe struggle to wrap his head around Tommy's past actions 2. It's going to be related to Tommy's father who if is anything like Gerrard is going to cause some havoc in the relationship directly or indirectly. I also think there could be a lot of insecurity with Buck feeling like Tommy is hiding things from him in the relationship which has happened before in his past relationships. 3. I think that Buck will have panic that he's doing something wrong and do a full Buck and avoid Tommy until he talks to someone about it (hopefully someone who is apart of the community like Hen or Josh). I feel like this could address the issue of maybe Buck feeling like he's late to the party when it comes to discovering his sexuality. I feel like it can also resolve the issue Buck has had when it comes to his relationship issues. I think overall this arc can show him becoming more comfortable and confident with his sexuality, solve his past relationship issues, and maybe establish him and Tommy as a solid couple.

Eddie (and Christopher)

All in going to say is I think Eddie is either going to find himself inside of a confession room or inside a therapy room. I hope they don't give him a new love interest as that would low key ruin his arc, I just want to see him become more secure with himself. I have my doubts though about him getting Chris back before the end of season 8a, but there is a slim chance it could happen. I just need him to figure himself out before he gets his kid back. I hope we see more Chris though in season 9, cause I doubt we will this season.

Overall I'm excited for all these arcs but honestly I'll be happy if there's just more Bathena 😝

Mellanoid Slime Species Sheet (Draft)

Mellanoids were very uncommon in Starfleet following first contact in 2360 and joining the Federation during the Dominion War in 2373. Most mellanoids in space careers joined the United Mellanus Space Program. (see also: Mellanoid Space Exploration) Felime Trox was an NCO during the Dominion War. Eaurp Guz was the first to be an officer in 2379, and there's only a small handful of other mellanoids in Starfleet. As of the 2380s a few more are trickling in each year.

In the late 2390s and the 2400s, Mellanus Space Program gets essentially integrated into starfleet, and Mellanoids start absolutely pouring into starfleet.

Mellanoids have differing consistency depending upon emotional state. They may get softer when sad or tired, or bouncy when startled. They may become drippy when anxious. Even intense positive emotion can lead to melting sometimes. The default texture is like a somewhat tough jello, jiggly but not sticky and with no residue left behind. When very sad they are capable of crying, with the sclera of their eyes melting alongside other parts of their face and body. In addition to losing cohesion with strong emotional state or sleepiness, Mellanoids can voluntarily liquify and move as a liquid, and even accomplish a limited degree of shapeshifting in this amorphous state. When sleeping or otherwise unconscious, mellanoids will melt into their amorphous form, and either spread thin so they can absorb air through their body, or if they're sleeping in a padded tub, they will manifest lung-foam on the top surface to continue to take in air into their body.

N.B.: Mellanoid consistency and physics is also just kinda whatever works! They're cartoon characters from an animated cartoon and fanart for another animated cartoon. If it feels right, it probably is right, even if it contradicts something I've said in the previous paragraph. The whole point of slimegirl emotional consistency to me is that it is a visual symbolism for how strong emotions can feel--if you feel like you're falling apart then that's what you will look like, if your heart melts you're literally melting, if you feel tense and rigid then you'll be tough and rubbery. And doubtless different mellanoids can be more capable or less capable of not just emotional regulation, but hiding the visible extent of these emotions.

Here is a reference sheet showing variation in existing Mellanoid Slime characters, and also a warp ship and a steam engine for reasons which are unlikely to become clear again soon. NB: following image contains drawings by myself, Ray Daly, and James, as well as a few screenshots of Star Trek Prodigy. Names which are not native mellanoid names are put in quotes.

The bioluminescence here is exaggerated so you can see it--it would really be much much more subtle, to the point that it might be difficult to even see it as colored light.

not a confession but I saw the post about bull and how op's anxiety sometimes manifests into sexual arousal and I wanna say that the same applies to me. I thought I was the only one and I felt weird lol. I just wanted to say I relate to op but I'm too shy to comment on the post. hope you all have a nice day/night
