I read I think last night someone saying that Emmrich and Davrin are like two single dads with diametrically opposed parenting styles, and at first I was a little skeptical (because people are often very quick to assign parental terms and roles to characters and their bonds, even when I personally often find that kind of unwarranted), but yknow? Taking the two of them out together?

Yeah, I hate to admit it, but I can't not see that either.

Like I've only had Emmrich on the team for like ten minutes, but already I feel like their styles really fit their respective "children" too.

Emmrich is like a permissive, encouraging "parent" to an ultimately harmless wisp of curiosity, and Davrin's job is to care for a largely undisciplined adolescent griffon that's brimming with restless energy.

Manfred is like a toddler just learning what his fingers and toes are for and needs his proud daddy to encourage his artistic endeavors by putting his crooked finger-painted portraits of the Veilguard up on the fridge, while Assan is like, a rowdy, jocky teenage boy who would live off Monster energy if he could, and needs his dad to sometimes lay down the law and protect him from himself so that he doesn't fuck up his future and lose his sports scholarship.

read someone's essay about being mad that fanon makes manfred von karma abusive abusive and one of their points of evidence was stuff from the anime canon and like yeah i get what they were going for conceptually but also i feel like everything decent he might have done as depicted in the anime canon is cosmically balanced out by the fact that, textually, he is going to drop edgeworth off at an orphanage until he realizes edgeworth would be a good prosecutor. like kind of an unchill move there tbh. regardless of the fact that he buys franziska toys.

Still trips me up how the English dub of Manfred Von Karma from the Ace Attorney anime is basically the same voice of the dub for the One Piece narrator. Like Von Karma is reading baby Franziska bedtime stories of Shonen anime pirates lol

Ok so. Miles Edgeworth is trans. Gregory was definitely a trans affirming father so when Miles told him he was like “sure son. What name do you want to go by?”

And so all Manfred von Karma knew was that Gregory Edgeworth had a son. When he gains custody of Miles, he just. Does not realize that the kid he’s now in charge of is a trans boy. (Maybe Miles already had a name change. Idk. Somehow legal name wise, von Karma just. Does Not realize.)

So Miles grows up being raised as a boy and von Karma just. Doesn’t realize. Until puberty begins.

And he notices something, that Miles isn’t experiencing puberty the way he would have expected and he’s like hmmm. I am not sure what is happening.

And then like preteen Miles, incredibly nervous, comes to him and he’s like, “excuse me, Mr. von Karma, sir, but would I be able to start puberty blockers please?”

And von Karma’s just like “WHAT!”

He’s so caught off guard and so used to thinking of Miles as “Gregory Edgeworth’s pathetic son” that he just… kinda lets Miles medically transition bc he’s so caught off guard by the realization.

And for his entire life, Miles is like. Unable to wrap his head around von Karma being surprisingly trans accepting???

Namor (Wakanda forever) man literally wanted to raze wakanda because he thought shuri was too kindhearted for the "land people"

Killmonger- need I say more? man watched his dad get killed in front of him and the idea that he was spared at the mercy of the US foster care system made him angry

Manfred Von Karma is the pinnacle of someone being completely molded by the situations they’re put in. Being so invested in one’s career to the point they associate it with their own identity, believing the mistakes they make in their work reflect who they are as a person.  Those willing to do anything in order to keep their job position and thus their self identity in tact.   And he was forced to see how cruel his “beloved system” is from the receiving end of it. Ingrain yourself in the system and before you know it, it’s all you are.
