I wish Mandy from Fazbear Frights; The Scoop got more attention!
The Scoop is definitely my favorite story from any of the books. Mandy just gives me such autistic vibes. She has a special interest in FNaF just like many of us autistic FNaF fans! She even makes fanfiction and theories!
I also just love the metaness of the story. It's very creative.
Also random side note; I read the scoop after watching Magica Record so I always imagine Mandy looking like Iroha but with lavender hair.
She's one of my comfort characters, so it sucks she basically doesn't exist online...

🌲🍁🥧 Harvestfest 🌲🍁🥧
(Adalynn's POV)
Happy Harvestfest! We all made out way to my parents house in Newcrest for a weekend full of family, food, and fellowship. One thing we tried to arrange beforehand was the grandkids picture since we didn't manage to get one last year, and now that the babies that were in utero last year have been born (and no one that we know of is pregnant) we decided now was the perfect time. We mixed up the kids so that there was a big kid-little kid plan, mostly for crowd control purposes so that they would be able to handle the toddlers. The oldest four (Noah, Luke, Chloe, and AJ) were holding the youngest four (Grace, Everett, Jackson, and Bethany). As the years go by and the children grow (and with more being born, Lord willing) we'll have to keep finding new ways to arrange all the children.
Annette (21), Macie (33), Casandra (53), Allan (56), Ashton (17)
My parents and the girls at home are all doing great! Now that there's no longer anyone in school, my parents have more time for their other things, though it seems with the more the family grows the busier they'll get! My dad continues to shepherd the flock of Newcrest Baptist, there's a blossoming pastoral staff that also help to keep the place running for the Lord's glory. It also gives him time to travel to speaking engagements at other churches as well as different revivals, jubilee's, hymn sings, and festivals. My mother is also busy with her role as mother, grandmother, and pastor's wife. She somehow finds the time to show all of us that we're definitely loved and valued. She helps to homeschool Barrett and Kyleigh's kids whenever needed, as well as the kids coming to their house for music lessons. When they're not home or travelling to commitments, they're usually visiting with one of us that live out of town, they try and schedule their visits to us to coincide with their travelling for their commitments. My sisters are all busy busy bees! Macie splits her time between being at home or in ministry, and when she's not doing that she's visiting with one of us. Annette works as a babysitter helping families at church that need that extra support, she just loves children and is grateful she gets to spend time with children all day. Both girls remain in a season of singleness, and they're using it to the full, with our cousin Celeste getting married this winter they've been recruited to help with the planning and execution of the wedding. Ashton also babysits children in the congregation, she's in the church choir and spends her days helping out wherever she can. Since she has less responsibilities she spends the most time travelling, so she gets to spend longer amounts of time with the siblings.
Mason (35) & Adalynn Leonard (34) with Titus (2) and Bethany (3m), Luke (10), Paul (8), Caleb (4), Joshua (6), Jonah (4), Noah (12), Aaron (9)
We are so thankful for the Lord's grace! Little Bethany joined our family this summer and we are over the moon that the Lord chose for this little girl to join us - her 8 older brothers and her parents are over the moon! We've had two kids get saved this year (Paul & Joshua) and it's such a blessing that we've been able to lead our kids to the Lord for his glory! Since the arrival of little miss, Mason and I have been feeling like the Lord is leading us in the direction of a new house. Since she's so young and has about a year in our room with us, we have time to see whether we're going to extend the house by adding a level or whether we'll move to a whole new house altogether. We've got a bunch of prayer warriors on our side so I'm sure we'll get an answer soon.
(AN: Ignore the height differences, planning poses with so many sims means you gotta sacrifice a few things here and there)
Barrett (33) and Kyleigh Collins (31) with Preston (2) and Jackson (6m), Marigold (6), Daisy (7), Benjamin (9), Rose (8), Olivia (4), Violet (8), Jefferson (1), Allan Jr (9), and Chloe (9)
Barrett and Kyleigh are also thankful for a new blessing from the Lord, little Jackson made his appearance soon after Parker and Lana's wedding, so we got a 2-for-1 deal really! They're also prayerfully considering their house, so our prayer circles are really working hard in this season our two families are in. They also had two kids get saved this year, it brought so much joy to my heart when Kyleigh shared in our group chat that the girls had gotten saved and baptised at church! My parents started the tradition of gifting the 'savee' a bible and a family lunch, and it's such a precious tradition that they're able to now carry out with their grandchildren. They only have 12 grandkids that are in the average age range for getting saved (of course it can happen before or after that time period - all in the Lord's timing!), but as the grandchildren grow and continue to multiply they're going to need the Lord's help to get them everywhere that they're needed!
Francisco (34) and Zoe Moreno (30) with Javier Jr (3) and Cassie (1)
Zoe and her family are happy and thriving in Windenburg, Francisco's job gives him weekends off so the family gets to attend church on the weekends. Zoe has amassed a solid amount of students that she teaches piano and violin, as well as some students that she video conferences for their lessons. With two young children to care for and a house to maintain, she's an expert at managing her time. They're slowly approaching the time when Francisco gets his orders and they've got to move, but they've not put their choices in yet so we have no idea where they'll be right now. Little Cassie turns two years old in a few months, so the plan is to have a birthday party for her when we're all back in town for Celeste's wedding. Ashton is heading back to Windenburg to spend some time with them as well as with Amira and her family, she'll ride back with them for the wedding.
Shane (28) and Maggie Wright (27) with Iris (2) and Arlo Wright (2)
Maggie and her family are doing wonderful! They were in Sulani earlier this summer with Reece and Amira's families, it's wonderful getting to see my younger siblings bonding as adults with families of their own. Little Arlo and Iris seem to have grown leaps and bounds since I last saw them, the kids love getting to video chat with them and love whenever they get to visit with each other. Usually Maggie and her family will try and pass through to see us during their travels, so that's when the kids get to see each other.
Reece (26) and Stacie Collins (26) with Liam (5) and Hazel (2)
Reece and Stacie have also been doing great, Liam has breezed through kindergarten and is getting ready to start grade 1. Stacie will be homeschooling Liam through a homeschool co-op, they said that they felt that was the best option for getting the kids socialised with like minded children.
Beckett (24) and Mandy Collins (22)
Beckett and mandy are back for their yearly vacation from the mission field. It's so great to see them in person and hear the wonderful stories they have to tell about the great work that they're doing out there in Selvadorada. Whilst they haven't been blessed with a child as of yet, the Lord has kept them content with their current life and has showered them in blessings of many kinds. They'll be focusing on fundraising efforts for the mission field, as well as trying to see as much family as they can.
Thomas (24) and Amira Eichelburg (23) with Maya (1)
Amira and her family are wonderful and thriving! Little Maya is such a sweet girl, a total reflection of her wonderful mother! Amira was such a wonderful baby and child, and Maya is exactly like her mother. Their little family are wonderful and are so blessed by the Lord, and they've been doing more travelling this year when their schedule allows. They'll be sharing Ashton with Zoe this winter as they get to have some quality sister time before we meet again for Celeste's wedding.
Felix (26) and Priscilla Robert (21) with Andrew (2) and Grace (9m)
Little Grace has joined the family since we were last all together, and her name is so precious! Little Andrew is such a wonderful big brother and these two babies are the light of their parents lives! Priscilla always says that life in Oasis Springs spoils them with the heat, but she does miss having the traditional autumn and winter weather and is glad to be with family - as we all are!
Charles (20) and Lorilee Collins (19) with Everett (9m)
Charles and Lorilee welcomed little Everett into the family around the new year, and have been thanking the Lord for that blessing. Lorilee has been sharing that she's been doing better than expected at the postpartum period, especially for a first-timer. They're talking about moving out of their apartment and finding a house for their little family (that they're hoping to expand!)
Parker (19) and Lana (19) Collins
Lana was also a new joiner to the family this year! She's such a sweet girl and is a wonderful wife to Parker. Their wedding was beautiful and wonderfully glorified the Lord, which is a testament to the minds and hearts of Parker and Lana. As an older sibling, it's been my prayer that my siblings find spouses that challenge them and push them to the Lord, and I'm thankful to say that Lana does exactly that!
We also managed to take a group picture! There's 55 people in our 'immediate' family - imagine that! There's my parents, then the 13 kids, the 10 spouses, and 30 grandkids! The lord has blessed us greatly and beyond our wildest imagination.
For comparison, this is a picture from way before any of us got married, and then a picture with Mason, Noah, and Kyleigh in the family. Who would've thought that in less than 15 years we'd go from a family of 15 to a family of 55! This is probably the biggest example of God's goodness in our lives!

Ugh daddies that care about you eating breakfast😭😭😭
Oh god babe you don't even know
I am such a giant fucking slut for any type of domestic dominance. I include it in basically all of my writing, but Chramelias dynamic in The Stranger especially is like drugs to me
Helping to pick out meals or choosing for you in a non-condescending way?? Aftercare and a very soft approach instead of blaming you for a mistake?? Making sure you're taking care of yourself but not in a way that makes you feel bad?? Being possessive but in the hot way, just wanting to keep you close (hand on your thigh/lowerback/holding you)???
GIVE. IT. TO. ME.
Like even a tiny speck of that with someone who checks in during the day just to make sure I'm taking care of myself (like eating breakfast) makes me go all
It's fucking perfect honestly I can't handle it
#mandy answers#domestic dominance#we are indeed talking about daddy m in this lmao#no surprise#daddy mason

Really unfortunate that Dead Like Me never hit big on tumblr because I feel like you guys would have had a blast babygirlifying Mason, who once OD'd on heroin (he can't die, he's already dead, so it was just a really really bad time) because he smuggled it in his ass on an airplane.
Also Mandy Patinkin is in it and the main character George has so many beautiful sapphic moments with so many insane women <3

Tiny Match-maker:Prince Charming
Bucky Barnes x Single mom!Reader Fluff
Here it is! It may have taken 6 months to finish, but it's finally here! A part 2 to Tiny-Match maker
Hopefully next time I write something with them, it won't take as long!
Word Count:2,285
Masterlist // Bucky Barnes Masterlist
“Hey Tin-man, can you focus a little more over here?” Sam grumbled quietly from beside him. They were meant to be staking out this run-down warehouse where there had been whisperings of underground groups dealing in un-tested batches of super soldier serum, but Bucky’s attention had entirely been diverted down to the mobile phone in his hands.
Bucky:Hey, sorry things have been a little busy for me lately, but I’d love to take you out for coffee sometime, say maybe this Sunday?”
“What are you even doing anyway?” Sam questions, trying to lean over Bucky’s shoulder to look at the phone screen.
You:Sunday sounds perfect, I can ask Amanda to watch Lottie for me, so whatever time works best for you.
Amanda was the mom who lived in the apartment opposite yours, and very kindly offered to look after Lottie for you when you needed to do stuff alone. It also helped that Lottie was very good friends with her son, Mason, so you had no worries about leaving your daughter in Amanda’s safety.
Bucky:How about the little coffee shop on Fifth Avenue? Maybe at 2.00?
You:Honestly, you had me at coffee shop.
“Dude, put your phone away! You’re supposed to be keeping watch!” Sam grumbled quietly, shaking his head at him.
You make your way across the hall to knock on Amanda’s door, and sure enough she greets you with that warming smile.
“Hey, I was wondering if you might be able to look after Lottie for me this weekend, like this Sunday?” you asked hopefully.
“Sure! We’d love to have Lottie come round, wouldn’t we Mase?” she smiles down at her son who was peeking his head out from behind her legs to see what all the fuss was about.
Mason frantically nods his head at hearing that his best friend was coming over for a visit.
“I’m gonna show her my transformers!” he giggles excitedly before running off.
“So, what is it? You’ve got a hot date with some hunky guy or something?” Amanda laughs.
You can’t stop the burning flush that rises to your cheeks.
“Oh so it is a hunky guy.” Amada says, raising a dark, arched brow in your direction.
“It’s just a quiet cup of coffee, and we’ll see how it goes from there.”
“Well, I hope you have fun darling. You deserve it.”
“Thanks Mandy, you’re a life-saver!”
With Lottie being the curious and excitable young girl that she was, it didn’t leave a lot of time to meet potential romantic connections.
But chance, and maybe your very own tiny little match-maker, had pushed you towards Bucky and for the first time in a long time you were excited to go on a date.
Once you had dropped off Lottie at Amanda’s place you busied yourself with tidying up before deciding to get ready. Setting about finding the perfect outfits to wear you figured that a comfortable casual dress and leggings would be the perfect thing to wear. Hoping that your choice of clothing didn't seem too dressed up for what was probably going to be a casual date.
You took the time to yourself to apply a light dusting of makeup, just enough to enhance your features.
With a final dab of lipgloss and a ruffle of your hair you throw on your coat and grab your purse and make your way out of your apartment, leaving plenty of time to walk into the city to meet up with Bucky.
The crisp golden orange leaves crunched underneath as you walked down the street, nearing closer to the coffee shop that you had agreed to meet up at. As you got closer the more nervous you got. This was the first date you'd been on in a long long time, what were you even going to talk about? What if Bucky decides he doesn't actually like you? Were you actually just making a fool of yourself? All of the worst case scenarios scan through your brain at a hundred miles an hour.
“Hey, there you are!” Bucky smiles jogging to meet you. “Guess we showed up at the same time. You wanna head inside?”
Bucky holds the door open, the bell above tinkling as he does. The quiet murmur of chatter fills the coffee shop.
You wait beside him as you line up to make your order. Your eyes cast downwards for a brief moment, and when they do, you can’t help but notice the way his hand hesitates next to yours. Almost like he wants to hold your hand, but he isn’t quite sure if making a move like that might be considered too forward. It’s sweet to see how adorably shy and nervous he is, and it does wonders to settle your own nerves to see that you were both in the same boat together.
Taking it upon yourself you slyly slip your hand in his, lacing your fingers between his.
His cheeks heat up with a lovable pinkish glow, as he squeezes your hand with gentle pulse.
You reach the front of the line and both bucky and you place your orders.
“One black coffee for me please.” Bucky says. “And a…” he trails off for you to give your order.
“A pumpkin spice latte for me please.”
“Is that for here or to-go?” The batista behind the counter asks.
“To-go please.” Bucky smiles.
“I thought we were staying here?” You ask curiously, turning to him with your eyebrows drawn together.
“Actually I had a little something in mind for us, if you'll indulge me?” He says with his soft smile quirking into a cheeky grin.
The batista behind the counter hands both of you your respective drinks, and Bucky pays for them. Before you can protest he's there with that charming smile once more.
“Come on now, it’s my treat”
You link your arm with his, turning to him with a smile of your own.
“Okay then Sergeant Barnes, lead the way.”
He walks with you through the busy city streets, his hand still holding yours as you sip your coffees.
“Y’know, I didn’t have you down as a pumpkin spice kind of person.” Bucky says, taking a sip from his own coffee cup.
“I don’t think you’re in any position to judge me, Mr. “One Black Coffee”.” you laugh at him. “I always treat myself to a pumpkin spice latte this time of year, it’s one of the little things that I look forward to.” you smile. “So where are we headed?”
“I just think if you’re going to go for a date in the city, you should probably see it the way it should be seen.” Bucky said with a smile as he led you by the hand through the park’s gate.
“Oh, so this is a date, is it?” you ask playfully.
“Well, I hope so at least.” he flushes with an adorable pink blush before coughing to cover the slight nervous crack in his voice. “Central park is at its peak in the fall, and it’s hands-down the best view of the city all year.”
You walk around the park hand in hand, and you have to admit he's right, the beautiful wash of burnt orange, rusted red and golden leaves clinging to the branches of trees lining the pathway. The chill of the crisp autumn air whipping through you in a refreshing breeze and the tempting scent of warm cinnamon floats from a nearby doughnut vendor, beckoning you to indulge in his sweet treats. This certainly was the right way to see the city.
“So, tell me more about you?” he asks with a soft voice.
“What’s there to tell? I’m not all that interesting, I promise you.” you brush off.
“Nonsense. I wanna hear everything.”
“Okay, well Lottie and I moved to the city not too long ago, my relationship with her dad gradually came to an end when I found out I was pregnant with her. I was excited, and I thought he was too, y’know? But a few weeks down the line we started fighting a lot more, and one night he just decided that being a parent, being a father, wasn’t something that he wanted, and that was that.”
“Well, if you ask me, he’s missing out big time. Lottie seems like a great kid.” Bucky says with no hint of irony or sarcasm in his voice whatsoever.
“She sure is.” you smile at his kind words. “So I moved to the city to get away from him, to start fresh. It definitely wasn’t easy at first, being a single mother in a new city but things are good now and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“That’s such a great attitude to have, I admire that.”
“Anyway, enough about me, what about you huh? I feel like I see you almost all the time splashed across the newspapers or on my television screen, but I guess that’s not how you want to be known.”
“Well the media likes to try to pin me down as one thing, which I guess is a fair assumption, I’ve done bad things, my life is full of danger and chaos, but I don’t want to be known for that. I just want an easy life. I just want to slow down and take my time to enjoy the things that make me happy.”
“..and what is it that makes you happy?” you ask softly as you chance to look at him.
“Right now, this,” he smiles, gently swinging your hand in his. “..is making me happy.”
You both finish up your coffees before throwing them in the trash can, continuing on your trail through the crisp autumnal landscape of central park.
You continue talking with him about everything and anything. Conversation with Bucky felt so easy. He listened to you, he never made you feel silly, and everything about being with him just felt right.
As you round a corner a gentle melody fills the air, and as you turn around you see the brightly coloured lights and gentle whir of a carousel. You looked at the ride with a fondness, it was something that you had loved as a little girl, a ride that you had endlessly begged your parents to go on time and time again.
“Do you wanna go on it?” Bucky asks, when he sees how your eyes light up at the attraction.
“No, no, I think I’m a bit too old for carousel rides.”
“Come on, we can go on it together. It’ll be fun I promise.” he says, holding out his hand for you to take.
He hands over the money for the tickets, and holds your hand as you swing your leg over the horse.
“M’lady.”
He lifted himself onto the horse beside you, and soon the ride whirls into life. The warm sparkle of the lights bounce off the mirrors, and the music bounces along in time with the rise and fall of the carousel horses.
You can’t help but smile, bright laughter bubbling from you at being able to enjoy yourself like this, completely free of judgement. Bucky gives you a soft smile and warm laugh of his own in return, and in this moment you knew that saying yes to this date was the right thing for you.
The ride slows to a stop and Bucky is there to help you as you come down off your horse, one gentle hand on the small of your back the other holding your hand.
“I told you it’d be fun.” he says smugly.
“Yeah it was pretty fun. I haven’t done anything like that since I was a kid.”
The glow of the carousel’s light sparkles in his steely blue eyes, and it’s only then that you realise that his hand is still resting on your back, almost curving along the curve of your hip.
His hand quickly pulls away when he realises, trying to hide his blooming blush with his hand moving to scratch the back of his neck. His nervous energy around you just makes him all the more cute in your eyes.
“Shall we?” you offer your arm for him to take, looping your arm with his as you walk around the rest of central park.
Bucky walks with you back to your apartment block, pausing outside your building with you.
“Thanks for agreeing to go out with me, I had a great time with you.” he smiles.
“I had a great time with you. It was easily one of the better dates I’ve been on in a while.”
“I hope that means that you might be interested in doing this again some time?” Bucky asks you hopefully.
Feeling bold you rise up on your tip-toes to meet him, and place a kiss to his cheek.
“I certainly would be interested in doing this again some time.” you flush. “Thank you for today, Bucky, it’s been wonderful.”
Once you're back at your apartment, with Lottie picked up from Amada’s place, you’re sitting on the couch curled up next to her, Cinderella playing on the tv. Her eyes wide in awe as the pretty princess whirls around the dancefloor with her Prince Charming
“Did you meet a prince today, mommy?” she asks, turning her face away from the screen.
She catches you off guard with her question, so you fire back a question of your own.
“What makes you say that, baby?”
“You were wearing a pretty dress today and your hair was done all pretty too.” her wide smile was too adorable. “So did you meet a prince?”
“You know what Lottie? I might have just found myself my very own Prince Charming.”

…
Steve went to school on Friday with a pleasant pep in his step. He’d be leaving early at 1:30 for work and then leaving work at 5 to go officially move into the trailer. He’d have the whole weekend off to get properly moved, to.
People still eyed him in the halls. They still whispered and they still looked. And yeah, it wasn’t with the same respect as it was before. But Steve found he didn’t care. He stopped by his locker, number 276.
Nancy and Jonathan were already there, both leaning against the lockers and talking quietly.
Steve didn’t say much to the two of them. He’d put away what he didn’t need in his locker and then simply went to first period.
.
There wasn’t ever much to say about school. Sure it was different from his home life, and yes it was different from his work life, but it wasn’t anything special.
It stopped being special when he decided to stick with Louie nearly 7 months ago now.
He left at 1:30, as he usually did. He typically got Nancy or Jonathan to stop by and grab the work he’d be missing for him so that he wasn’t absolutely failing.
At work, Steve couldn’t stop glancing at the clock. A couple of the regulars— Abby, a sweet lady in her thirties, and Mandy, a sassy black lady in her fifties— congratulated him on the new trailer and tipped extra.
Steve was positively vibrating with nerves his entire shift. Every time he went back to pick up an order from Mason and Gwen they shot him cheeky grins and gave him claps on the shoulders.
Everyone could see how excited Steve was, and his moods were usually rubbing off on everyone anyway.
When 5 finally hit, Steve hung his apron, counted his tips, and gave everyone the usual goodbye hugs and high fives. Mason held on a little tighter than usual and even gave him a little spin that had Steve leaving in high spirits.
He took his usual dinner and baby Louie out to the car, talking excitedly to the small child all the while.
“We finally have a new home, Louie! Aren’t you excited baby? You’re gonna sleep in a bed, and sit on the couch, and have floor time!”
Louie babbled back just as excitedly. Steve was giddy with joy.
The trailer park wasn’t too far from the dinner. It was a good 5-7 minute drive, tops.
But by the end of the night Steve had officially moved into number 2718 New Bird Ave.
.
The first night was as rough as expected. The previous occupants left behind most of their furniture so Steve was left with a couch, a bed, and an old dresser that was ready to topple.
Steve took the smallest bedroom, it was barely bigger than his old closet but the tight fit was comforting in a way. He moved the mattress from the left-behind bed into the room, leaving the frame. It wouldn’t fit through the door despite being just smaller than a twin.
Steve took Louie around the trailer, holding him close and happily showing him everything there was to see.
“And this, my dear baby, is the kitchen. I’m gonna get real nice curtains and a small table. I’m thinking yellow curtains. Whaddya say Lou-Lou?”
Louie babbled excitedly and gripped Steve’s hair.
“I’ll take it you like yellow. Me too.” Steve smiled brightly.
The kitchen took up the entire front of the trailer. The windows were large and nearly floor-ceiling and already had blinds set on them. They let in plenty of sunlight and gave a beautiful view to the other trailers and the woods surrounding the park. There was a pantry where he could eventually set up a washer and dryer. And a small area between the pantry and windows where he’d be able to fit in a table and maybe three chairs.
“Now—“ Steve let Louie down on the floor and crouched right behind him, holding him up. “—this is the living room. This is where we’re gonna listen to music and dance and sing.”
Louie immediately started babbling and gurgling, wiggling and bouncing in Steve’s hold. Steve laughed.
“Exactly baby! Dancing just like that. You get your moves from your daddy don’t you hunny?”
Louie gave his best belly-laugh that had Steve scooping him up and holding him close.
“You’re such a sweetheart, Lou-Lou! You’re my sweetheart aren’t you, babyboy?” Steve smothered kisses across Louie’s face and grinned when the baby laughed and pulled his hair.
.
“Alrighty, Louie. What to do now, huh?”
Steve had propped Louie carefully on the couch. The baby sat watching him closely, and vaguely tried copying Steve’s hands on his hips. Steve grinned.
“Do you wanna go to the store? We can see about getting you an actual crib.”
Louie stared blankly.
“You’re right, you’d just end up sleeping with me anyways. What about a new bed for us then, huh? Something that’d actually fit in the room?”
Louie made a squeaking sound.
“And plans have been made!” Steve declared, throwing his arms up. His hand his the ceiling but he didn’t mind the pain when Louie copied him and threw his hands up as well.
“To the store we go!”
.
Steve was pushing Louie around the store in a stroller he’d found in the baby section. Yes, he was going to buy it when they went up to pay.
Why hadn’t he bought a stroller to begin with? It was so much easier than carrying around the car seat.
Little Louie was babbling away and reaching for just about anything they passed. However, he made a particularly loud squeal when Steve passed a certain bed frame. Steve paused and looked it over with Louie.
It was a simple white twin with a high headboard and a low, almost not there bottom board. It almost looked like a wooden princess bed.
“That one?” Steve asked Louie.
Louie answered with a gargle of spit and his fingers in his mouth. Steve grinned.
“That one.”
.
Putting the bed together was the biggest pain in the ass Steve ever had the displeasure of going through.
He’d never been a strong reader. And he’d always needed visual help references in front of him for him to learn properly. The instructions provided pictures that Steve was confident he himself could’ve drawn better.
“I mean look at this sh— crap. I’m sure you could’ve drawn something better, huh bub?”
Louie gurgled and nodded sagely.
The bed was put together with much failure and cursing and input from baby Louie.
Steve stood back with his hands on his hips and snorted delightfully when Louie copied him as best he could with his baby hands. The bed was done and Steve’d finally out the mattresses on. Now he got to sleep in it.
.
Steve entered the back door to the diner in a flurry of limbs. He was pushing the new stroller he’d gotten Louie and was desperately trying to hold open the door at the same time.
Gwen rushed to help, grabbing the stroller and baby Louie and pushing him into George’s office. Steve sighed in relief and let the baby be taken while Mason helped him with the diaper bag.
When they dropped off the bag and baby in the office Steve was surrounded by Michelle, Gwen, and Mason.
“So? How’d it go, kid?” asked Gwen with a cross of her arms.
Steve grinned at them, baring his teeth and gums in a way that showed his giddiness in full force.
“It’s a nice place. I got a bed set up and Louie likes dancing in the living room with me. Isn’t that right bubba?”
The baby in question immediately started bouncing in place on his butt. Steve laughed and picked him up. Louie continued bouncing in his grip, dancing his best baby moves.
“Just like that, lovebug!”
Mason and Gwen cooed.
“You got those moves from your daddy, huh sweet thing?” Mason teased, poking a finger into Louie’s side. Louie grabbed it and messed with the ring there.
“You are just the sweetest freakin thing ever!” Gwen cooed in a baby voice.
.
And for a month it went like that.
Steve and baby Louie got settled into the trailer nicely. They filled up the living room and bedroom with Louie’s toys and as many pillows as Steve could afford.
Back at his parents’ house, the pillows his mother bought were only for show. They were only there because they had looked good. Steve bought his pillows because he liked them. Because they were pretty or cute. Because they reminded him of people he knew. Because they simply caught his or Louie’s eyes.
They got the curtains for the kitchen— a soft yellow with white stripes. Steve hung them while Louie had floor time a few feet away in the living room.
During the month they settled in, Nancy had been watching Louie every Wednesday and Thursday after she got out of school so that Steve could take the closing shift at the diner. She’d watch him early Sunday mornings so that Steve could take the opening shift.
And they built a steady routine.
It was mid-morning on a Friday. Steve was buckling Louie into his car seat and humming Head Over Heels by Tears for Fears to himself when a loud thunk vibrated through his car.
Steve righted himself immediately, hitting his head on the roof of the car in the process. While he rubbed the back of his head to soothe the inevitable bump he turned and came face to face with 2 kids barely older than 9.
They stared up at him in silent fear. Steve saw the offending ball rolling somewhere down his driveway— they must’ve hit the ball into his car while playing.
Steve didn’t think. He simply jogged down the driveway and into the street to retrieve the ball. Then he jogged back to his car and handed the little girl the ball. She took it hesitantly.
“You two alright?” Steve asked gently.
They both nodded. Steve was starting to get a little freaked out.
“Um—“
“We’re really sorry!” the girl suddenly shouted.
Steve startled. “Oh! It’s—“
“We didn’t mean to hit your car, the ball kept bouncing and it wouldn’t stop!” the boy explained. The girl nodded.
Steve huffed and put one hand on his hip. “It’s alright, seriously. Look: no damage done, see?”
And true to Steve’s word, there was no damage done to his car, just a mark from the mud caked onto the ball.
“You’re not angry?” the boy asked hesitantly.
Steve smiled sweetly and shook his head. “No, I’m not angry. Just be careful next time, someone else is bound to be angry.”
They nodded in sync. Baby Louie spoke up at that moment with a gurgled babble.
The kids’ heads snapped to the back seat in scary unison, the girl’s blond pigtails bouncing.
“Is that your brother?” she asked, setting the ball in the grass by her feet.
Steve chuckled. “No, he’s my son. His names Louie,”
He stepped aside and let the kids peer at the car seat. The boy grinned.
“Hi, Louie! I’m Noah!”
The girl smiled sweetly and held her hand out for Louie to grab. “I’m Casey! I’m the older twin.”
Steve watched fondly. Louie didn’t get to interact with many people outside of him, Nancy, and they people at work.
“Noah, Casey! What are you two doing now?” Came a call from behind them. Steve turned with the twins to see an older lady walked over to them.
“Gran, look! He’s so cute!” cried Casey.
Noah and Casey made way for their Gran to look at Louie. Little Louie seemed to be thriving in the sudden attention, babbling nonstop and grinning his gummy little smile.
“He’s quite the charmer indeed.” Gran agreed with a nod and smile. “Now, come along you two. Let this young man leave.”
Noah and Casey turned to Steve with a simultaneous “Bye!” before running off with their ball to the trailer next door. Gran sighed.
“It’s nice to finally meet the new neighbor. I’m Margaret, Margaret Bottomette. Those two are my grandchildren, they usually come over for weekends and breaks.”
Steve smiled at the lady, Miss. Bottomette.
.
Miss. Bottomette and the twins became a new constant in Steve’s life alongside the middle schoolers he’s forced to cart around occasionally.
Noah and Casey are sweet kids, albeit feisty. They come over to the car every time Steve’s out, whether he’s with baby Louie or not.
And it’s sweet, is the thing. It brightens Steve’s day just that much more when he sees the beaming smiles on their faces while they play with Louie or while he listens to them talk about their days.
It was early October of 1984 now, Louie being officially 8 months as of October 14.
Steve wasn’t prepared for the upcoming months.
.
