I put it down for a month to get a lot of plants into the garden and to do some embroidery and some baking, but I'm working on it a little again this week.
I put about two inches of width on it yesterday, and expect I'll do at most another inch today (lots of single crochet and half-double crochet, which don't build bulk very quickly; yesterday was doubles and crossed doubles). But it's June! I'm in no hurry.
Getting there. This is through all but the last round of the first repeat (which is only sc and so doesn't add much height anyway). It is now two feet across.

So I’ve been working on this since back in March. It should’ve been done in the same month, easy peasy, but I procrastinated on the last little bit until now. :p Originally, I’d started it because I’ve always wanted a shawl, always wanted to make one for myself, and I just never got around to it. I was doing other things. Then I had a couple of hospital stays and they kept it so cold in there that I kept thinking to myself, “boy, a shawl would really come in handy right now.” So, I told myself that when I got out I’d start one. And I did. :p
This is from a pattern called Butterfly Stitch Prayer Shawl by njSharon AND DebiAdams on Ravelry, and I used a video tutorial by Fiber Spider on YouTube to get the stitching down. It’s really simple and once you work through the first set and then do a repeat you’ll have it down pat and can go on without having to check the pattern or check the video (whichever you’re working from).
The yarn I used was Lion Brand Mandala in the colorway Wood Nymph. I don’t really like this yarn so much, although it did grow on me after awhile. It just seems kind of flimsy to me. Not so much because of the lighter weight, but more because the imperfections in the yarn seemed to directly affect the integrity of the yarn itself. If that makes sense? I found thin areas. I don’t know how else to explain it. But, I love the lightweight of it and I love the colors you can get with Mandala. So, I guess it’s kind of a trade off. :p
I used a 5mm hook for this project.
PS: You don’t have to make it this big/long. I did that because I like shawls like this, but if you prefer a shorter shawl then that’s absolutely fine. Just make it to your desired length, you don’t have to do anything special to the pattern for that.

All them colors, and there are subtle differences IRL between those that look alike, came from just four deconstructed Lion Mandala cakes. So to cut to the chase I bought more and I’m gonna frog the Wood Nymph cake thing I made, and remix them in to colorways I want.
There should be a watermelon slice pink to green before its done. Most of it still has visions of being a blanket held together by that purple although I might use black. Going to see if the Walmart purple works with the Red Heart Baroque.
I’m also wondering if that good week or so spent home because of the inches of rain made me like to stay home a little bit more than going out. Maybe it’s because of a lack of spoons.
Doesn’t matter, two hours of Steven Universe tonight.
No lunar eclipse for me to see last night, we had clouds, and this morning more rain.
Tiny Kittens has their tiniest kitten ever, I guess comparing the age-weight factor, and she seems fine except for being super teeny tiny. Her birth weight is doubled. She’s got peepers and the littler is at the age where their ears are opening and they randomly hiss at things. /the other litter is transitioning from bobble head to drunk.
You watch enough kitten cams you start to get the terms.
Drunk puppies come with ferocious grrs, You just tough some and they growl. And when they discover they can wag their tails they get so excited. If my smother had got her way and docked them I wouldn’t have had their happy drumbeats greeting me in the mornings.
It’s definitely feeling like a day for deconstructing yarn cakes, rearranging the colors, and winding new cakes. I want to read but can’t quite get myself there.
Small things like the TV remote being on the fritz.

The festival is over and the lore of Northwest String Summit 2018 has been writ in the great book. Penned with ink from the elusive Humbolt squid, it’s stories of revelry and madness would make even Pumpkin Ridge Pete proud. Horning’s Hideout in North Plains, Oregon, provided the wooded backdrop for one of the premier camping/music festivals of the year. Thanks to everyone who joined into the festivaus and helped make it an absolute spectacle. This place and production brings out the most quality in performers and attendees. From the art installations to the vendors and the multiple tiers of covered stages, this place puts on a good show. With such a large number of children in attendance, this festival really has a family appeal. The vibe is completely friendly and inviting and late-night, after the last stage show, the tent city comes back to life with the sound of cackling laughter and guitar circles.
Most gracious appreciations goes out to Rainbow Lightning Youth Village for allowed the Moon Pies to join in the silliness. Their “Not For Kids Only” area is a guaranteed staple of freewheeling fun at NWSS. See y’all next year f’sho.
The dreadlocks have been washed and the banjo strings replaced. Many of the performers and attendances have pulled up their stakes and headed straight to other sick parties elsewhere. This is the way of things. In this world of constant and tepid, civic responsibilities, maybe not such a bad idea. Horseshoes and Hand Grenades is heading to Floydfest in Virginia with the Roanoke Mafia. Darol Anger, Samson Grisman and The Steep Canyon Rangers are headed to Pud and RockyGrass in Colorado. It’s just another weekend in the summer festival maelstrom and these pieces of floating driftwood are caught in the very gyre. There is no rest for the wicked.
With many of the family, four hours away at the Gorge Phish show, this year’s NWSS was a cross-section of the truest and bluest. Overlapping parties can be a difficult issue. The mountain trails of Horning’s Hideout were littered with flower-clad hippies and overall wearing bluegrass soldiers of the first degree.

Bubble Master NWSS 2018
I am the Bubble Master and it’s bubbles for breakfast. First come, first served.
Good morning North Plains, Oregon. Set your alarm and don’t miss a thing. The sunrise menu includes breakfast bubbles and peacock chicks. It’s a cuteness overload, here in the land of raspberries and spruce trees. Was that woman wearing fairy wings? What brand of pixie forest nymph occupies this part of the Oregon woods? Let us tread lightly, to be sure.
Stay alert for the strange sounds ringing through the forest just before sunrise. The haunting call of “ee-ow, ee-ow, ee-ow” could be heard through the trees. Obviously some wild animal hunting in packs, or albino peacocks poking around for breakfast morsels. One can never know here in the wilds of the American northwest.
Thanks to the folks at Rainbow Lightning Youth Village for organizing and operating the “Not For Kids Only Area”. A place where kids, families and anyone can sit and enjoy some relaxed, creative fellowship. Littered with all manner of interactive fun, the kids area was a safe, engaging place for everyone to relax and enjoy some of the afternoon chill. A covered yoga dome, the lake stage, dance and play areas and a covered arts and crafts pavilion gave participants plenty of options from which to choose.
Rainbow Lightning Youth Village:
Along with free-style arts and crafts choices, the Kids Area offered participants such activities as mask making, recycled art, scavenger hunt, yoga, toddler time, spirit animal stories, creature creations, dance class and other arts and crafts projects, all of which led up to the kids parade on Sunday afternoon. The following were some of our favorites…
Nature Mandalas: Each morning, Satchel brought her assortment of floral delights and led in the creation of beautiful nature mandalas. Along with pine cones, sticks and flowers, she brought an assortment of ingredients donated by local florists. Young people worked independently and together in creating spectacular works of art.
Live Music: A steady diet of live musicians stopped by the Youth Village lake stage and kept the music playing for folks in the relaxation dome. Along with the likes of Caveman Dave and G Rockwell, The Deep Fried Pickle Project swung in for a few tunes and stuck around to help attendees create their own homemade jugband instruments. There were foggy recollections of them kicking off the morning jam at the Cascadia Stage and crushing Bob Schneider’s “Batman” which rang out through the forest and fields, at what seemed like sunrise.
Satchel hosting Nature Mandalas at the Rainbow Lightning Youth Village, Northwest String Summit 2018.
Decorated Walking Sticks: The Mystic Order of Moon Pies hosted daily arts and crafts workshops at the “Nor For Kids Only” area. With them came hundreds of walking sticks for participants to decorative with an assortment of bobblyhoops and diddlydinks while they bounced to the bluegrass sounds of The Steep Canyon Rangers. Painted, glittered and yarn-wrapped walking sticks could be seen throughout the festival, which was helpful considering the extreme topography of the grounds. With ankles like wet cardboard, traversing rocky terrain, over time gaits become limps and walking sticks become canes.
Bluegrass and Crayons: One of the most anticipated daily activities incorporated these two of our most cherished traditions. Camped out on the Cascadia Lawn, Kara provided coloring books and crayons while participants created original art while enjoying the bluegrass stylings of banjo legend, Danny Barnes. Danny has played in nearly every NWSS and is truly one of the patriarchs of this festival. One doesn’t have to go any further than Yonder or the Stringdusters to find his songs being covered. Bluegrass great, David Grisman’s son Samson Grisman pounded on the bull fiddle to such Danny Barnes tunes as “Get it While You Can” with all the poise and character expected of the Grisman line. Headed straight to RockyGrass, he is hooking up with his father, Peter Rowan, Sam Bush and Keith Little for an “Old and In the Way” set Friday night. Well slap my mouth and call me a gypsy street walker…The future certainly appears in good hands.

The Youth Village included a parachute covered geo-dome filled with blankets, pillows and toys. It’s was the perfect place for the tot who just wanted to chill out on a soft pillow with a good book. Several fathers make their way into the dome for a relaxing play session in the cool summer shade. With your head on a fuzzy pillow, parenting doesn’t have to be such a chore. There were also workshops for kids yoga and hula hooping classes. Too much fun.
Check out the Rainbow Lightning website and follow their social media sites on Facebook and Instagram.
Rainbow Lightning Kids Tent at Northwest String Summit 2018
As always, the live music at Northwest String Summit was of the elite order. Bands like Greensky Bluegrass and The Infamous Stringdusters wore the frets off the collective necks. Greensky dobro picker, Anders Beck kept it real, joking around with Prince’s “Purple Rain” in between sets of blistering bluegrass slather. Their 1:00 am Friday night set at the Kinfolk Revival Stage was weaved with braided layers of the best modern bluegrass anywhere and left everyone in attendance covered in dust and sweat. The Shook Twins and The Jon Stickely Trio both tore up the late night Cascadia stage and Yonder’s Saturday night set celebrated the hits of the Steve Miller Band. Leftover Salmon did their Neil Young set and a funky brass breakdown set with High Country Horns. All this along with the likes of perennial favorites such as Danny Barnes and Darol Anger.
Be sure to visit the Northwest String Summit website and like their social media sites on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Visit the Horning’s Hideout site for information on camnping, disc golf, weddings and trout fishing. It really is a special place to see. It’s all this and roaming packs of wild peacocks.
Check out some other NWSS articles such as “First Time at Northwest String Summit” and “The Summit Sessions”.
Stay tuned for the FloydFest wrap-up with the Roanoke Mafia and keep up with the Low Brow Summer Tour as we head north to Arlington, Virginia and LOCKN’ for some sliced and buttered hillbilly jubilee fun. With The Ed Broyles Dance Party ’18 and the return of Thatcher Owen Mullins at Suwannee Roots Revival followed quickly by the sparkly silliness that comes with Hulaween, it promises to be an interesting fall, y’all. Welcome to the machine.

I kept saying, over and over, that I was going to make myself a shawl and then I just never did it. Finally, I’ve started on one! It came about when I was I noticed just how darn cold they kept it in the hospital and how I wished I had a shawl or poncho or something for when I was out of bed and away from my covers. :p
There have been a few times around the house that I wish I had one, but it’s fairly warm in here. But the church basement is super cold when I’m down there with the other ladies for LWML stuff, so I think I’ll still get plenty of use from it once it’s done. Plus, the yarn I’m using is pretty light-weight so I think it’ll be nice through spring, too. Plus, I anticipate getting a lot of use out of it in the summertime, too, because we keep it pretty cold in the house during summer and I’m always reaching for something to use to warm my arms up. Usually it’s old button-downs. :p
And if I need to answer the door in my nightgown for any reason, I have something to cover up with in a pinch.
So yeah, lots of uses.
I’m using a 5mm aluminum hook and Mandala yarn in Wood Nymph for this project, as well as this video tutorial by Fiber Spider. The pattern is by njSharon AND DebiAdams over on Ravelry.
I already see a few things about this shawl. I may make a second one with heavier yarn, because I don’t really like the Mandala yarn that much. It looks and feels flimsy and the yarn wants to split before I even do anything to it. I think if I had to do this over again with this yarn, I’d also use a smaller hook even though the label recommends a 5mm. I don’t think I could knit with this yarn, considering how much it splits. I think this is the last time I’m going to buy Mandala yarn, though.
Not to step on anyone’s toes, though! I know a lot of people love this yarn and I’m not about to tell people not to use their fave stuff. If you like it and it works for you, more power to you! :D It’s just not for me, I think.
#crochet#butterfly shawl#shawl#fiber arts#my crafts#my crochet#my fiber arts#i'm still searching for proper tags for this stuff sorry

I’ve watched enough Shock Treatment in the last couple of days that my brain is half dreaming about it and trying to find a place for a character based on slutty Richard O’Brien.
Because slutty Richard O’Brien is a real thing and hooray for that young woman inside of him that’s wanting to get out.
He’s also flashing us an example of what could happen when a mature ectomorph takes estrogen. As opposed to someone like Pearl Thompson who probably has something life long going on with his hormones. And dear goddess I don’t know much but just enough to direct my studies when it comes to figuring out things for making characters.
I think I might have come to the knowledge of the word gynecomastia via a shirtless Doctor Who gallery, they’re not all Paul, at that age when many girls get girly about weird things, did a bit of research, and filed it away for future use.
If you create characters you gotta collect weird stuff and file it away because the difference between an androgen insensitive male, a XXY male, and a homosexual male are subtle but important.
How the hell do I know this shit?
Because if I didn’t distract myself the glum reality I am currently in would overwhelm me.
That’s the next yarn for a shoulder warmer thinggy. It’ll be a different shape than the pink one. Maybe just an old fashioned triangle. The color is Lion Mandala Genie.
The finished Lion Mandala Wood Nymph shoulder thinggy. This is one of those color ways that only exists in yarn. I’m going to wear it around the house. It solves the shoulders, back, and boobs being cold but the tummy not. Those kind of hot flashes will find you.
If you are transitioning to female you will want to get/make a yarn shoulder warmer. Have it go from your neck to your elbows, maybe down your back a bit. When you’re somewhere that a cooling system’s pneumonia valve hits you you’ll be glad.
On the not sure if it’s a regrettable purchase or not I sprung for a pair of what look to be 3D printed Daft Punk keychains. The only worry is they will be too big for making doll heads out of. I’m hoping the size is about right and all I have to do is hollow out enough to pop them on a neck knob. If they’re too big for 1/6 I’ll put them on a tote bag or something.
Oh yeah, so catching up on all the small things I was going to treat myself when I was saving up to make what I thought was a super expensive car repair.
We were blessed with a great deal on like new tires because the guy we’ve been going to since we moved out here is moving his shop.
On the charm end the bubbles charm order was cancelled because the clasp was broken, in usual circumstances no prob but where I bought it from and stuff I take it as a sign I’m not getting one right now. The paint box came in and it opens all adorable and stuff. It’s the High Intencity Charm It paint box. Decent quality if you’re curious.
I’m hoping to have the energy to do some work in the room. I’ve lost track of where the DIY Daft doll helmets went to compare their measurements to what the seller’s were but that doll bin is stuffed.
It’s not major sorting, just how a few things have been left here or there for easier reach.
COme back in September 2020 to see if J36′s date went well.
